In the second half of the 1970s, Jimmy DeSana chronicled and helped canonize early aspects of what would become known as the New Wave and No Wave scenes in New York and beyond.
He coedited the Fall 1977 issue of File magazine with his friends Diego Cortez and Anya Phillips. Together with the Toronto-based collective General Idea, who published the artist magazine, they evoked and poked fun at the do-it-yourself aesthetic of punk through their writing, photographs, and graphic design.
DeSana produced many of the photographs that appear in the issue, including portraits of musical acts Blondie, Richard Hell, Mars, the Talking Heads, and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. Rather than attempting to capture likenesses, DeSana intentionally obscured or transformed his sitters’ appearances through lighting and exaggerated posing. Like emerging cultural theories at the time, DeSana’s photographs called attention to the artificiality of the image and the performance of identity. #JimmyDeSanaBkM

I saw around us a ring of wolves, with white teeth and lolling red tongues, with long, sinewy limbs and shaggy hair. They were a hundred times more terrible in the grim silence which held them than ever when they howled. For myself, I felt a sort of paralysis of fear. It is only when a man feels himself face to face with such horrors that he can understand their true import.

Gail got me in KNOTS over Uncanny, lol. Reset my focus to something I didn't get to post in time for Romy week. Always OTP, always home and harbor, always together.

I know I'm like nearly 30 years years behind but lately I haven't been able to stop thinking about the 1996 Rolling Stones X-files photoshoot. Specifically this shot of David, eyes closed and topless, snuggled into Gillian's side.
Honestly, when I see that I only see sweet baby Mulder, finally sleeping, in need of comfort, finally resting because Scully's in his arms and he doesn't need to be scared she'll leave or something bad will happen to her.
Mulder has gone through so much emotional turmoil, so much emotional rejection from his family, and then he meets Scully. You can't say this man is not a cuddler and that the only good nights sleep he ever gets is when he's tucked up next to Scully. He's at peace.
He's the epitome of babygirl Mulder.

I recently got a really fun commission for an x-files collage! 👽
they wanted a 10x20 inch panel which is not a standard size for me but I always enjoy trying something new! I was going for vibes inspired by the fight the future era posters and promo photos. I chose to do a more matte finish for the varnish this time! you know I love gloss but I felt like it fit the vibe more.
sidenote: I recently learned about stitching photos together so the full picture is actually an amalgamation of several pictures!
if you’re interested in a commission or seeing what I have that’s already made, check out my pinned post!
