LISTEN WITH HEADPHONES
It's one of the clearest scenes I can see in Questverse. By a fire after a long day, Rain sits in OuterTale, trying to warm herself, and she begins a meaningful conversation with Orel, who joins her, strengthening their bond and deepening their characters. The calm before the storm, one could say. Truly, a beautiful and tender moment.
I've been taking music classes, and this is one of the pieces I composed in my free time. Honestly, I love it very much. This music belongs to me. PLEASE DO NOT REPOST WITHOUT CREDIT!!
Rain belongs to @draft-void
Orel Sans belongs to me.

The image you provided is of the Donnie Darko soundtrack album cover, featuring music from the original motion picture score, written and performed by Michael Andrews. This soundtrack is integral to the 2001 cult classic film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly.
Donnie Darko Soundtrack Overview
Composer/Performer: Michael Andrews
Release Year: 2002 (initial U.S. release); Canadian release followed in 2002
Label: Enjoy Records (U.S.), distributed in Canada via Universal Music Canada
Genre: Alternative rock, electronic, ambient, with a mix of original score and licensed tracks
Significance: The soundtrack enhances the film’s surreal, time-travel narrative with eerie instrumentals and 1980s hits, contributing to its cult status.
Track Listing with Durations
The soundtrack includes 18 tracks, blending Michael Andrews' original score with licensed songs. Specific durations are based on the 2002 release (Enjoy Records) and may vary slightly across editions:
"Never Tear Us Apart" – INXS (3:04) – Opens the film with a romantic yet ominous tone.
"The Killing Moon" – Echo & the Bunnymen (5:50) – Featured in key scenes, adding a post-punk edge.
"Mad World" – Gary Jules and Michael Andrews (3:09) – The haunting cover that became a global hit.
"For Whom the Bell Tolls" – Bee Gees (3:37) – Underpins the cinema scene with Frank’s reveal.
"Show Me (Remix)" – XYZ (4:12) – Plays during Cherita Chen’s talent show routine.
"Pipeline" – The Chantays (2:18) – Adds a surf-rock vibe to school bus scenes.
"The Tangent Universe" – Michael Andrews (1:50) – Introduces the film’s time-loop concept.
"The Artifact and Living" – Michael Andrews (2:30) – Reflects Donnie’s manipulated reality.
"Middlesex Times" – Michael Andrews (1:42) – Ties to the film’s newspaper motif.
"Manipulated Living" – Michael Andrews (2:09) – A brooding score sampled by Madonna.
"Philosophy of Time Travel" – Michael Andrews (2:02) – Explores the film’s theoretical backbone.
"Liquid Spear Waltz" – Michael Andrews (1:32) – A melancholic piano piece.
"Gretchen Ross" – Michael Andrews (0:52) – Short, emotional cue for Donnie’s love interest.
"Burn It to the Ground" – Michael Andrews (1:58) – Heightens tension in arson scenes.
"Slipping Away" – Michael Andrews (1:17) – Marks Donnie’s mental decline.
"Rosie Darko" – Michael Andrews (1:26) – A tender nod to Donnie’s sister.
"Cellar Door" – Michael Andrews (1:04) – Brief, eerie interlude.
"Ensurance Trap" – Michael Andrews (3:12) – Builds to the film’s climactic resolution.
(Note: Some editions, like the 2004 two-disc set, include additional tracks or alternate versions, such as "Waltz in the 4th Dimension" [2:47] and "Mad World (Alternate Version)" [3:07].)
Canadian Pressing Variants
Release Date: 2002, aligned with the U.S. release, with distribution by Universal Music Canada.
Variants:
Standard CD: Initial Canadian pressings feature the same 18-track layout as the U.S. version, often in a jewel case with bilingual (English/French) inserts reflecting Canadian market norms.
Limited Vinyl Reissues: Later reissues, especially for the 20th anniversary (2021), include Canadian pressings on colored vinyl (e.g., blue or silver), pressed at facilities like Citizen Vinyl in Asheville, USA, or local plants in Burlington, Ontario. Limited editions (e.g., 450 copies by La Boutique Carlotta Films) may include gatefold packaging with lyrics and character photos.
Director’s Cut Edition: The 2004 Canadian release of the two-disc set (soundtrack + score) mirrors the UK version, with CD 1 featuring licensed 1980s tracks (e.g., "Notorious" by Duran Duran) and CD 2 the full score, including "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
Packaging: Canadian editions may include a French title (Donnie Darko: Musique du film) on the back or promotional stickers, catering to Quebec markets.
Collector Value
Original 2002 CD: $10–$20 CAD used, depending on condition (mint copies with intact digipaks fetch higher prices).
Vinyl Reissues:
2010s pressings on standard black vinyl: $25–$40 CAD.
Limited colored vinyl (e.g., blue or silver 20th anniversary editions): $40–$60 CAD, with rare mispresses or signed copies reaching $80–$100 CAD.
The 2004 two-disc set (CD): $30–$50 CAD, valued for including both soundtrack and score.
Condition Factors: Mint copies with original shrinkwrap or inserts (e.g., posters) command premiums. Pressing defects (e.g., pops on silver vinyl) noted in collector forums can lower value unless rare.
Market: Popular on eBay.ca, Discogs, and Canadian vinyl shops like Rotate This (Toronto), driven by the film’s cult following.
Limited Initial Traction and UK Hit Status
Initial Reception: Donnie Darko struggled at the U.S. box office, grossing only $517,375 in its limited 2001 release, hampered by its post-9/11 timing (released less than two months after the attacks) and the unsettling image of a jet engine crashing into a house. Its complex narrative and low $4.5 million budget limited marketing, leading to modest theatrical turnout.
UK Breakthrough: The film found its audience in the UK, where it outperformed its U.S. total box office. Released in 2002, it resonated due to several factors:
Cultural Fit: The 1980s setting, featuring British bands like Echo & the Bunnymen and Tears for Fears, aligned with UK nostalgia, especially the New Wave and post-punk scenes prevalent in the era.
"Mad World" Success: The Gary Jules and Michael Andrews cover of "Mad World" became the UK Christmas Number One in 2003, driven by its use in the film’s emotional end credits. This viral hit, peaking at #1 for three weeks, introduced the film to a wider audience via radio and TV play.
Film Festival Buzz: Screenings at events like the Edinburgh International Film Festival boosted word-of-mouth, appealing to UK cinephiles who embraced its philosophical depth.
Cult Appeal: The UK’s affinity for quirky, intellectual cinema (e.g., The Wicker Man) helped Donnie Darko gain traction, with its time-loop mystery and Jake Gyllenhaal’s brooding performance striking a chord.
Why a Hit?: The combination of a haunting soundtrack, the "Mad World" phenomenon, and a growing appreciation for cult films made it a cultural touchstone. Its DVD release in 2002 and the 2004 Director’s Cut further cemented its status, with UK sales outpacing the U.S., reflecting a market more open to its unconventional storytelling.

⭐ I was surprised to find out this morning that I won the Newgrounds Underdogs' Audio Contest with my piece 'Crystallis Ultima'! ⭐
For the final round, I had two weeks to write a song, but was out of town for part of it so only had about one week, but it came together in the end.
I'll post a sheet music video next week (still have some edits to do).
For now, you can hear the full song on Newgrounds!
