Life persists, even when surrounded by a mysterious and corrosive red ocean. In the Null, people get together to make small island towns to survive their circumstances. Carving small pieces of paradise, they all have unique stories and appearances.
Tumblr media
The sandswept, windy town of Lámpara, neighboring the massive Bretish Library, is one such example. Formerly a place famed for its work with clay and expeditions into the mysterious nearby library, an evacuation notice due to a certain maestra has reduced it to a hastily-emptied ghost town.
Tumblr media
It is a place with its humble share of advanced technology, mainly being elevators, announcement speakers and hologram billboards given out by the BSR. Anything that makes life in the Null either easier or more pleasant is very welcome.
Tumblr media
Towns in HEARTRENDER are a major recurring component of exploration. They're where you find a fair share of resources and information for the harder parts of your heists. If you can survive any resistance likely to be found in them, that is.

Just a ramble about my Borderlands addiction
I am currently helplessly addicted to the Borderlands games (yes, the ones with the bad movie adaptation... wait! Don't scroll away!). Playing co-op lit the spark, the more I play, the more I get hooked, I played once with a friend, then right after I started another playthrough with another friend, and today we started "The Pre-Sequel" all together.
Better yet, friend #1 was a bit hesitant at the beginning. He didn't really give a damn... but by the end, he was asking questions about the lore, laughing at the jokes with me and getting invested in the characters. (Hard not to love Mordecai and Brick)
These games have the engaging sense of long-term progression of RPGs mixed with the frantic moment to moment action of shooters, you see big numbers go up, find hoards of randomly generated loot that constantly gives you new ways to make things explode and there is also a deadass slot machine in the hub if everything else didn't scratch the reward centers of your brain hard enough.
These games are like digital crack, like a pair of noisy but lovable neighbors living rent-free in my head, and I just needed to get that out... god, I need a more productive hobby...

Hear me out
A movement shooter game, where you play as a sentient computer virus, infiltrating a government database. Your goal is to destroy everything and collect top-secret files. Every weapon you use, and every move you make, causes the environment to crumble and break. Since you are a virus. You would literally leave behind a path of destruction. Some boss battles would be things like, a mouse cursor, as someone tries to delete you manually, or an antivirus.

Review: Doom: The Dark Ages (Xbox Series X)
It’s been a while since I last played a Doom game. I’ve played many entries in the series, but Doom Eternal was where I started to fall off. Its relentless, up-close combat style—where getting in enemies’ faces was practically mandatory to resupply—felt overwhelming at times, especially if you were used to the older games’ more traditional resource-scavenging mechanics. Doom: The Dark Ages takes…

Don't look now - perspective and immersion in 'Doom 1'
By Neil Merrett Doom (1993), released on Nintendo Switch in 2019, published by Bethesda With its now primitive 3D worlds,  Doom 1’s simple premise of running and shooting has a pleasant sense of immersion in the 2020s – even without the ability to look up or down Earlier generations of virtual reality brought to market in the 1990s promised an immersion that would blur the very boundaries of…

In HEARTRENDER, all weapons you carry are summoned on the spot, built out of Eris and her obsidian flesh. First among them is the Overture: A powerful, accurate and elegant piece that's a perfect fit for a maestra like yourself... with a few secrets to be shown later.
Tumblr media
HEARTRENDER has dozens of different pieces of equipment called "petals". They fall under three categories: Guns (self-explanatory), casts (anything that is thrown out or otherwise produced like grenades and discs of light) and oddities (miscellaneous powers that range from utilities like invisibility to showstoppers like freezing time and harnessing volcanic might). Rather than deciding on a "build" and sticking to a methodology for the rest of the game, you'll learn to flow between whatever's available and, against all odds, make it work.
