Cine: First Girl I Loved (2016)

Además de ser buenos amigos, Clifton "Cliff" Martínez (Mateo Arias) y Anne Smith (Dylan Gelula) trabajan en la edición de esa bonita costumbre escolar estadounidense llamada anuario. Para complementar el material, Anne decide una noche ir a un juego de softball, adonde se enamora perdidamente de la estrella del equipo, Sasha Basañez (Brianna Hildebrand).

La chica decide acercársele e iniciar una relación más cercana con la atleta. Acaba siendo correspondida, pero esta novedad despierta una reacción airada en Cliff, que no sólo estaba enamorado de Anne sino que no puede creer que ésta se haya enamorado de otra chica, reacción que lo llevará por caminos más oscuros de los que está dispuesto a aceptar.

"First Girl I Loved" (no confundir con "The First Girl I Loved", producción de Hong Kong estrenada en 2021 con temática similar) coincide en su año de estreno con otra aparición de Hildebrand, en la que también encarna a un personaje LGTBQ+: Negasonic Teenage Warhead en "Deadpool". El filme de Kerem Sanga bucea en territorios conocidos, pero no por eso menos interesantes: el descubrimiento de la propia sexualidad, los celos, los temores y los sinsabores del amor.

Some Gay Thoughts

Just needed to get out my gay thought, after all isn’t that what Tumblr is for. So I just finished watching First Girl I Loved, and it just made me so thankful for gay especially lesbian characters whether they show up on the Internet or in traditional Hollywood. It’s a culmination of all of these that have helped me become not only comfortable but proud to be who I am. So just sending out a thank you into the ethers.
