“promise you won’t laugh.” 

your voice is quiet, gentle like the breeze that rustles through reo’s amethyst locks as you walk together — side by side. it’s your fourth official date, fifth if you count the lunch you shared at his soccer practice the other day, where you'd made him the cutest little homemade bento full of his favourite snacks. either way, the pro player is happy to be by your side this evening, to watch the sunset glow halo your silhouette and the way your shoulders hunch beneath the sliding straps of your sundress each time you laugh under your breath. he liked this dress on you, it’s perfect for the weather. 

“i swear, i won’t!” reo insists, reaching out to fix your strap with a delicate touch that strays no further than the bare skin of your shoulders. you twitch underneath his rough fingertips as they graze you — you’re nervous and your skittish behaviour gives up your jig. ever since you met him, you’ve never been one to shy away from the purple haired player — bold and confident as ever, that’s how you got him hooked like this. the look you give him is a curious mix of bashfulness and fear, you’ve got nothing to worry about; so he does his best to reassure you. “c’mon, you know i'm not that type of guy…”

tonight, you’d invited him over to your place and allowed him to walk you home. he knows it’s a big deal for you, that you secretly worry your background and home life won’t appease him as someone raised in the comfort of the top one percent. but reo doesn’t care, he’s dated rich girls and even richer older women but none of them have a heart of gold like you do. they’re all bitter and callous, cruel with all of their riches and ridiculous spending. 

if anything, you’re a nice pace and change from the spoiled, snobby lifestyle he’s accustomed too.

“i've got siblings, you know. the place is always crowded,” you quip, burying your fears under amusement — turning away from reo to stare out into the setting sun.

“doesn’t matter, my place was always quiet growing up. ‘m sure i’ll appreciate the company,” he shakes his head, fingers cascading down your arms as if to stop you from pulling away. his deep, alluring eyes trace over every part of you, drinking you in under the setting sun as if to commit you to memory — reo doesn’t want to let this go or let this end. he wants you in his life, no matter what that may look like. “how many?” 

nerves get the best of you and you avoid his gaze, swallowing the thick claggy lump in your throat as best as you can. you find his presence in your life intimidating, yet comfortingly constant. you’re so afraid of the disparities between your backgrounds, how much more the soccer player has and was raised with, compared to yourself. he had it all and you had enough to get by, living semi-comfortably. logically, you know if reo mikage were to judge you, he’d be a narcissistic and privileged piece of crap.

but you don’t do that, you don’t want to have to give him up because of that. you like reo and you so selfishly want to keep him. “two.” comes your shaky reply and you stop walking, taking up space on the sidewalk as the man holds you close. “and the dishwasher  is broken but i swear we’re trying to replace it,” the excuses flow without you really meaning to let them out — rushing like a river. if he really cared about what you have and don’t have he’d have given up on this and the very end of your first date… but reo mikage wants you so bad, he refuses to acknowledge any out that you give him.

“hey, look at me,” tutting, reo releases one of your arms to grasp at your chin using a thumb and forefinger — cocking his head to the side as he leans down to your height. trying to see you, attempting to understand you. the gesture makes you clam up and attempt to squirm away, but he’s stronger and faster than you. you’re not going to run this time. “i know that you think i’m some kind of rich snob—“ 

“— i don't,”  you cut him off in an attempt at being firm, heat flaring under your skin with shame whilst you try to shake it away with your head moving side to side. “i-i’m not trying to make you feel that way—!”

the air to mikage corp and the most understanding, caring man you’ve ever met only smiles softly, tutting at you with an air of fondness. “let me finish, and then you can tell me how you feel after, okay?” reo hums carefully, looking you in the eye with the hopes that you can trust him. “i’ll be the first to admit, i grew up rich and spoiled. guys like me are always born with a silver spoon in their mouths… so that i could have anything and anyone that i wanted,” he begins, pushing the words around his mouth with his tongue and navigating how to be honest and firm with you. how to properly communicate his feelings to you without scaring you off. 

the spring-like and floral scented breeze carries his words right through you, touching your heart as the soccer player speaks thoughtfully. “but i promise you? i’m not anymore. i want you, want to prove that i’m worthy of you. it doesn’t matter that we’ve come from different worlds and i don't care that things are broken or your home is always loud,” reo hesitates, nerves surrounding the beating organ in his chest because he never pictured this — pouring his heart out on the pavement while he walks the person he likes home. “none of that,  all of it… it doesn’t matter to me. i like you. like seriously. i don’t need you to have grown up the same as me for us to work. i like you, no matter what.”

a beat of silence passes between you, only broken up by passing cars and the wafting laughter of people enjoying the warmth of the spring evening. “do you mean it? are you okay with… everything?” you ask tentatively, biting your lip hard enough to draw blood.

reo swipes a thumb over the bottom one, stopping you from hurting yourself. “i do, i want to visit your home and see where you grew up. where you became this person that i like so much,” he says, treading lightly, as if not to spook you. “but only when you’re ready,” 

the sincerity decorating the cadence in your voice tells you that he means it and you believe it too. reo wouldn’t abandon you because you don’t cover yourself in twenty-four carat gold, just as you wouldn’t leave him if he one day lost it all. standing on your tippy toes, you press a kiss to his nose and grin when his face scrunches adorably in surprise.

“i’m ready, i want this. for you to see my home.”

and with that, you open your heart and your world to reo mikage. he walks you to your place and is polite in closing the front gate while you sift through your purse for your house keys. he greets your mum at the threshold as he toes off his shoes, who’d turned from your worn down kitchen at the end of the hall after hearing your familiar voice and jingling keychains. reo bumps fists and shakes hands with your siblings and teases them playfully — dubbing himself ‘the boyfriend’ once you reach the landing on the first floor, having been stopped by them on your way to the bedroom.

he likes the business, the family photos hanging on faded painted walls and the creek in your floorboards and the whining of your bedroom door. your bed feels loved and slept in, the mattress holding your shape. he detects it when he sinks into it after sitting down. the rest of your evening is spent recounting memories of your home, how you were raised and all the times you’d left the nest for work and uni and exploring the world.

it’s only when an inky black sky replaces the orange coloured sunset outside that you pause to ask. “what do you think?” fiddling with reo’s large hands as he snuggles up to you on your adorable single bed. 

“i love it, it’s full of memories. feels safe and like home.” the purple haired player comments wistfully, linking your fingers before he brings them up to his lips. “i wish i grew up in some place like this.” 

reo kisses you on the back of your hand and this time you don’t shy away, accepting his affections like you’ve accepted sharing the intimate parts of your home life with him. “maybe one day, we’ll have a place like this. fill it with our own family and memories.” comes your timid offer.

“yeah?” reo smiles, practically saying ‘yes’ already and his heart sings at the thought of a future like this. with you.

tucking yourself into his side, your head nuzzled safely under his chin, you hum in content. “yeah.” 

and then, reo mikage makes you a promise. the cross my heart and hope to fly kind of promise, the kind of promise imbued into a ring that he’ll probably get for you, someday — squeezing you close with no intention of letting you go. “then, i’ll make that happen for you, no matter what.”

hello, all! so some of you may have already known that in the past month, i have impulsively purchased various of perfumes, some of which are based on jaehyun’s personal perfume collection that he uses as mentioned on various platforms. some of the scents he uses are:

as someone who loves collecting perfumes myself, this was a perfect excuse for me to buy some to get an idea on how he would ‘smell’ like!

some of you have asked for me to post a review of his perfumes! i will be primarily listing my reactions, experiences, and ratings for each scent, along with pictures of jaehyun associated with each scent and if the scent is masculine, feminine, or neutral. i have purchased all of them except for tom ford fucking fabulous. the byredo bal d’afrique will be reviewed at a later date after it arrives in the mail, so for now only 4/6 scents will be discussed.

before you buy!! some of the fragrances will react differently on your skin as the scents are based on your body chemistry with certain chemicals listed on their ingredients. thus, you may smell a different scent when sprayed on your body than on mine. not only that, some of the perfumes utilizes synthetic ingredients, which can be a deterrent for those with a sensitive nose. i strongly recommend sampling them out at local stores before purchasing as these brands are expensive.

Shoujo manga recommendations - otome game isekai

So, after 10+ years reading shoujo manga, I’ve read over 1k titles, admittedly, a reasonable amount is one-shot (or at least a collection of), but nonetheless, over time I had to expand my interests.

Lately, I’ve started reading the otome game isekai genre, and decided it’d be nice to share the ones I thought were best.

Most of them are pretty much the same, but the best ones usually have a twist, so...

! Warning: You’ll most likely want to beat up 1 or 2 characters from each one, but worry not, so do I and the other characters

1. Fiancée's Observation Log of the Self-proclaimed Villainess

Crown prince Cecil was so brilliant that everything in life was easy to the point of boring him, then one day, his fiancée Bertia suddenly said "Prince Cecil, I am a villainess!" Claiming that this world is the same as that of an "otome game" from her past life and that she is playing the role of the "villainess" in it, she aims to play her part well and have their engagement annulled. With that goal in mind, she sets about causing turmoil in Cecil's daily life.

This one definitely takes the gold for me. Super sweet and pretty funny.

2. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Most people would prefer being the protagonist of a world full of adventure, be it in a game or in another world. But, unfortunately, a certain girl is not so lucky. Regaining the memories of her past life, she realizes that she was reborn in the world of Fortune Lover—one of the games she used to play. Unfortunately, the character she was reincarnated into—Katarina Claes—is the game's main antagonist, who faces utter doom in every ending. Using her extensive knowledge of the game, she takes it upon herself to escape from the chains of this accursed destiny. However, this will not be an easy feat, especially since she needs to be cautious as to not set off death flags that may speed up the impending doom she is trying to avoid. Even so, to make a change that will affect the lives of everyone around her, she strives—not as the heroine—but as the villainess.

This one takes 2nd place! It has a different result than others, and the FL is great - everyone is, to be fair.

3. Of Course I’ll Claim Palimony

"I'll annul our engagement!" My fiancé suddenly declared?! Apparently he's in love with the recently transferred count's daughter and is planning on making me the villain in order to annul the engagement. Although I have no lingering attachments about the engagement, I do have to claim a hefty consolation fee don't I?

This is sooo good. The FL is spectacular and manages to stand out - even if just a bit - from the rest of the genre.

4. I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss

Avoid the BAD END! That's the goal of the villainess in this plot-twisting story!! She has been reborn into the world of an otome game as the villainess, Irene. Using her memories of her former life, she recognizes flags indicating she's en-route to the bad end, so she makes a plan to conquer the last boss (the evil king Claude), make him her lover, and see if she can open up a new route!

Pretty funny, and the FL is bold. Also, the ML is a bishounen.

It’s one of the few mangas from this genre that has been completely translated, and since it only has 13 chapters, it’s a good way to start out.

5. The Plain & Unnoticeable Me is No More

Elaine Lana Norris, who was born at the top of the aristocratic daughter, was declared abandoned by her second fiancé at the school's founding party. Lana, who has been made a villain daughter, is driven out of her home by a strict grandfather. But there is a secret in Lana that everyone doesn't know about?

I don’t want to give out any spoilers, however, it suffices to say that she accepts her role as the villainess.

Ok, I think these 5 are my favorite, but the ones below have been selected as well, so they’re still pretty good and worth reading.

6. The Villiainess Is Adored by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom    

Tiararose was supposed to be disengaged and exiled from the country. “This was the Otome game I had played!” She realized on the day before the story’s ending??……. Shall I wait for the judgment? But, I did not do anything too cruel……. Thinking so, the ending continues. But, during the judgement??something that was not possible in the game happened. The neighboring crown prince courted the villainous daughter Tiararose.

ML: 10/10 FL: 8/10 (too insecure for my taste)

7. Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary on the Villainess

She’s always putting on that grumpy face even though she’s not actually that upset! Oh, why can’t she just be honest with herself…!??? She is a tsundere, after all? When her embarrassment levels exceed a certain limit, she will explode into anger. However, the point that she’s suppressing under the surface is that she wouldn’t mind that sort of thing if it were in a less public place.? As Endo-kun passionately reacts to the antics of Lady Liselotte, the villainess of an otome game, Kobayashi-san provides a painstaking breakdown of her tsundere behaviour. Suddenly, one person could hear their voices; Liselotte’s fiancée, Prince Siegward. That is where this story begins.

8. I’m the Villainess, but the Capture Targets are too Abnormal  

The villainess, Mystia, remembered her past life on her 10th birthday and has unwittingly turned the characters in the otome game "Kyun Kyun Love School" into yanderes! In order to avoid becoming the love rival of the "heroine" who will lead her to her downfall, she starts making every effort to break off her engagement with her "prince-like classmate"! That’s was what supposed to happen...But, because of her kind personality, her favorability increased instead!

It’s still in its beginning stages, but seems pretty solid.    

9. Though I May Be a Villainess, I'll Show You I Can Obtain Happiness!

Great way to start out, it has quite a few options, so if you don’t like one, give another one a try!

10.  The Villainess, Cecilia Silvie, Doesn't Want to Die, So She Decided to Cross-dress!      

I was reincarnated into the body Cecilia Silvie, the villainess of an otome game. According to the plot, what awaits me in the normal route is either a slow, painful death or an instantaneous one... Essentially, every route leads to my demise. Then I'll change my fate! And that's why I decided to become a man. However, I made a mistake during a certain event, and the story began to head down an unexpected path...?

I haven’t seen any other like this, and if you like gender bender, this one’s for you!

11.  I’ll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History ― The More of a Villainess I Become, the More the Prince will Dote on Me

Alicia is the eldest daughter of the noble Williams family—a bloodline that excels in dark magic. Her jet-black hair and golden eyes command a powerful presence, but her most unique features are, without a doubt, her sharp tongue and malevolent nature. By all means, she is a villainess, but also a fictional character from an otome game!

12. I’m Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn’t Mean I’m a Bad Person!

The novel The Saint Beloved by the Prince is set in the land of Lacia, where spirits control the elements, each of which is overseen by a "Spirit King." On rare occasions, these Spirit Kings may bless a single human, granting them immense magical control over their respective element. While difficult at first, Claudia tries to adjust to this new life, all the while accompanied by the Dark Spirit King Gerald. 13. Rebirth of the Villainess: The Life of Letizia after the Engagement Annulment      

For some reason, the duke's daughter, Letizia, was plotting to break her engagement with the prince. Her plan succeeded and the prince, none the wiser. But shortly after the engagement was terminated... The King collapsed! In that moment, she recalled her memories of her past life as a nurse and she fully utilised her knowledge & experience as a nurse, to save the King's life. Thinking she had achieved what she wanted, she thought she could finally relax, drinking her favourite beverage and leisurely spend her time, she instead somehow keeps getting involved in incident after incident. The slow and peaceful life is now nothing but a dream!? Lazy daughter, busy seeking freedom and laziness!

14. I Won't Become a Villainess. I'm Just a "Normal" Duke's Daughter!

A Japanese person reincarnated into an otome game chock full of death flags for the villainess, Rosalind. "I'm going to live an enjoyable life in this world!" Making full use of the game knowledge to avoid death flags, for some reason events keep happening one after another?! Contracting with spirits, helping her father (the prime minister) with his work using her modern day knowledge, taking a walk with the holy beast... and on top of all that, even starting up the heroine's event...? Will Rosalind be able to smash through every unknown death flag that comes her way...?! And will she be able to be fluffy lovey-dovey with the supporting beastkin character she liked from her previous life?!

Cute. Has beasts.

15. Milady Just Wants to Relax      

She worked herself to death in her past life, but then she was reborn in another world as the villainess Ronia! As expected, her engagement is broken and she's expelled from society, but now she takes that chance to live peacefully, and even opens a cafe with the help of her fairy comrades, which is becoming unexpectedly popular with beast-kin...?

16. I Swear I Won’t Bother You Again!            

Violette, a proud and beautiful daughter of a duke, commits a crime out of jealousy towards her half-sister. Convicted, Violet faces her own heart with sincerity in a prison cell and regrets her sin. Then time rewinds to a turning point—to her first meeting with Maryjun one year ago. Violette makes a decision. She will not make mistakes this time. “Hold still… just a few more seconds,” Marinette sucked her bottom lip in between her teeth, brows pinching as she focused on her task at hand. The brush stilled against smooth skin, before gliding far more steadily this time.

The lazy smile on Luka’s face remained where it was, as he continued to remain motionless, eyelids closed as Marinette swept paint over them.

“I promise, after this time I won't try again,” though she knew she would. She would do it over and over until she got it right, even if Luka didn’t care. He had patiently sat through all of her previously failed attempts at replicating his mask onto his actual skin, more times than the discarded wipes in his lap suggested. 

A snicker off to her left made her pout further, until Luka blindly tossed a half full water bottle at the culprit, silencing them. Juleka’s hiss in response made her loosen up a little though, and she pulled her hands away from Luka’s face. Eyelids fluttered open carefully, getting used to the weight of the paint, before the blues flicked up to meet her own. The warmth and amusement in them sent blood rushing to her cheeks, and she had to turn away quickly, focusing on swirling the brush in the water cup next to her.

“How does it look?” his voice rolled over her, patient, a hint of teasing.

“You look dumb,” Juleka snarked, water bottle arcing through the air. Marinette snatched it from the air before it could smack Luka in the face and stuck out her tongue in defiance.

“Ohhh, Luka! Your face looks amazing!” Rose popped around Ivan, her own make-up heavily coated with glitter paint.

“Okay, fine. She did a good job this time,” Juleka’s mumbles of defeat made them all laugh, louder than necessarily. Pre-show jitters were still high. Kitty Section was about to perform a small set live at the local broadcasting station. Thankfully, they weren’t the only bands playing for the charity event, but it was still barely their second time performing for an audience of Paris-sized magnitude.

“Thank you, Marinette,” the raven haired girl all but jumped out of her skin and squeaked as a strong hand fell onto her shoulder, a hummed chuckle following.

“Of course! It was nothing… well it wasn’t nothing… it was definitely something for a while… You’re welcome, Luka!” She inwardly groaned as she turned to face him again.

“It was definitely something you’re right,” Luka’s quiet laugh had her shoulders drooping and a frown tugging at her lips. Quickly she dropped her eyes to her hands, twisting them together. The hand on her shoulder shifted slowly, fingers grazing her neck as he slid his hand up. The calluses on his fingertips brushed along the sensitive skin, sending gooseflesh down her arms. “Hey, I didn’t mean it like that.” His thumb stroked her jaw gently, enticing her to look at him once more.

When she met his gaze, she had to dart her eyes away again. He was so close. 

“I know… I just… This is a big deal for you guys. And I don’t want to mess it up,” she kept her voice low, not wanting the rest of the band and their friends to hear. She knew they would all vehemently disagree with her messing anything up, but that small voice was still hard to beat back sometimes.

“Trust me, you didn’t mess anything up. And besides,” Luka dropped his voice, and she couldn’t help but glance up, watching the mischievous grin over take his face. “I bet Juleka’s jealous because my face is prettier than hers.” He finished off the confession with a quick eyebrow raise and she couldn’t help but laugh, the movement causing his hand to catch in one of her ponytails as he held her face. 

Before he could pull his hand free, she reached up and clasped his wrist. She watched the bright smile on his face smooth into something of interest and patience. Bright blue eyes softened as he held her gaze, and she was sure in the silence between them he could hear her heart pounding away in her chest. Her tongue darted out over her lips as she briefly stared at his, noticing they were far closer than she remembered them being.

“Five minute warning!” Marinette jumped at the call, bumping her nose against Luka’s, who seemed equally as shocked. Immediately she let go of his wrist so he could pull his hand free from her hair. A pink tinge broke out over the tops of his cheeks as he cleared his throat, looking away. 

She gave him room as he stood from the makeup chair and stretched, determinedly not staring as his shirt rode up to reveal a small swatch of tanned flesh. His presence was next to her as she went about drying the bristles of the brushes and cleaning up the paints was hard to ignore. Luka’s arm brushed hers a few times as he made final adjustments to his clothes. Each errant press of flesh felt like small prickles of lightning down her skin. She curled her toes in an attempt to dispel some of the excitement coursing through her, and kept her face lowered to avoid him seeing the red painted across her own cheeks.

“Marinette,” his voice melted over her again, and she looked up as his finger gently tapped her chin. His eyes were trained on her mouth, before they slid back to meet her own. “Thank you, again.” 

As he went to drop his hand, she caught it. Gently holding it in her grasp, before smoothing her thumb over his slide ring. With more bravery than she thought she could muster, or stupidity, she wasn’t sure, she lifted his hand to her lips. With a quick kiss to his ring, eyes flicking back up to catch the crooked smile on his face, and a dazed expression, she let his hand go. 

“You’re welcome. Give Paris the show they need!”
