how do you feel about yellowjackets' supernatural element? should they go there or present it as an effect of them losing their minds in the wilderness?

Neither in my opinion? Or both i suppose. I would be disppointed if it was confirmed to be either. For me its almost a non-question. I never really wonder if something is or isn't supernatural with this show because it seems the whole point is that we cant know. We will always be able to argue both ways on all of it because thats by design. We cant know because the characters dont know and they can never truly know and we're meant to be able to join them in that experience.

Gonna get a bit existential here but i think the whole thing is a metaphor for the human soul. The "bad" side is just waiting, like Mari said. Its something Tai literally embodies. And the other side isnt even really innately bad, like Other Tai it gets us through the most traumatic events in our lives, but it can also be uncontrollable and destructive especially if we let it rule us. Its why its not what we outwardly show people, we have ways we interact with others, politeness and civilty, but that other side of us is still there. We will always still be animals, as much as we other ourselves from the natural world.

The wilderness, whether its "real" or not, is representative of that impulse-driven survival-focused part of us all. And we're never going to know whether it was some outside force or not, because even if it was it still accessed a primal part of the girls that always existed. It was always in them because its in all of us. Its just the further away they get from society and its rules, dealing instead with the visceral reality of nature, the more they're forced to rely on that side of them. Like Lottie said "is there any difference [between it and us]?" Because shes right, no, there isnt.

It is all real and it is all not real, because even if "the wilderness" has no existence outside of them, even if theres no god or spirit controlling things, theres still the part of it thats in them and isnt the human soul/consciousness just as supernatural a concept as any other anyway? I think thats the point. Its what this show tries to get its audience to recognise. Aka how theres a part of ourselves that is buried so deep we would never even recognise it as us. "SOS gone deeper". Deeper into the wilderness. Deeper into themselves. The other, deeper side of our soul is either tethered to or is itself an unknowable and fudamentally amoral wild god and there is no real distinction between the two.

Yeah, I understand W’s wishes and PR of being ‘househusband’, present parent. But I also didn’t think it was wise to abandon everything.

He leaked that he went to visit K everyday and did the school run everyday, but yeah, I mean, he could have done at the very least 1-2 engagement in one day these 3 weeks. He wants to give an example of being a family man, and it’s ok…. But being paid by taxpayers, he also needs to give the example of caring about the job (specially when his PR is all about being down to the earth, ‘I will be a different King’)

The comparison with Cam isn’t fair tho, she doesn’t have small children. But that doesn’t mean that everything W does is right and he isn’t giving any example of ‘wanting the job’

yeah like, let's be real. you cannot be both a regular person and take off work for god knows how long while still getting paid. it's not how it works. most people don't have hired help. he does. and has apparently done the school run in windsor and visited her every day in london, sooo the eco-king PR isn't looking that great either. just... give up the school run to see your wife sooner and get some work done. i promise the kids won't die if their nanny/security/grandparents drop them off for a week.

and yes. you cannot compare the situations because they are fudamentally different.

i wonder if part of the seeming-illiteracy i complain about when it comes to how fans understand many warriors characters is a product of how the series is compartmentalized?

people form an opinion on a character's actions in one arc, then they form an opinion of how they behave in another arc, and then they try to combine these two opinions -- and so if in the first arc, the fan's opinion is negative, then in the second, the character makes amends and grows, and the fan forms a positive opinion, the result isn't "this character did bad things and then grew as a person" it's "this character has done some good things and some bad things and should continue to be held accountable for all of the bad things"

a great deal of it is also the mindset that "sin"/any mistakes fudamentally stains you as a person, so no matter how much you repent or change, you are still a bad person -- and also that "bad thoughts" are, if not as condemnable as "bad actions", still something the character must be persecuted for and atone over. notice how these are both christian frameworks of wrongdoing.

maybe because we go back and forth so often in the timeline, we end up with this character-development-soup where any action a character took in the 4th arc is still just as relevant to who they are as the action they took in the 6th arc. it's hard to discuss "ivypool" when i don't even know if the people i'm talking to have read avos, tigerheart's shadow, the broken code, AND the Thunder excerpt, or if we're arguing over OOTS ivypool and one post they read on tumblr

an example of this timeline-soup fallibility in my own analysis is how i think about Blossomfall's age in comparison to Thornclaw's. i think of OOTS as "my era" because it's the series that was coming out when i got into the books as a kid. So, Blossomfall in my imagination is almost always OOTS Blossomfall.

Therefore, when I try to reconcile "blossomfall and thornclaw are a couple" with the OOTS Blossomfall that lives in my brain, alarm bells go off. It's hard to factor in the timeskip between OOTS and AVOS because i'm still subconsciously living in OOTS.

Kids are fundamentally the same kind of thing as a person, just with less experience. If they're not permitted to socially interact with other people they can't learn how to act like the people in their society. Which means they stay a kid forever.

Lots of people think this is good, because to them a kid isn't fudamentally the same thing as a person, it's a kind of image of man pre-fall without sin. These people are crazy and evil and we should stop listening to them. Experience is good.

Sometimes when people on the Internet are like "ADULTS CAN NEVER INTERACT WITH MINORS IT'S CREEPY" I remember how, at 12, back in 1997, I was on the Witchvox forums with people ranging from me to people in at least their 50s, and no one there was ever a creep to me, no one ever made me feel uncomfortable or asked for my personal info, and when I finally broke down after a particularly brutal day of bullying at school and posted about it they were the first adults I'd ever met in my entire life who told me the bullies were the problem and it was okay to be angry about it.

Kids need to interact with adults who will listen to them.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Vietnam stands on borrowed time.

In 35 days, on the 28th September 1977, the Government of Vietnam will face a crisis. A crisis that has been reminiscent of what happened just 3 weeks ago. A governmental debt looming. A governmental default incoming. A governmetnal shutdown approaching.

The 500 million dong injection from Switzerland, though a lifeline for this quarter, is merely a temporary patch. The fudamental issue of unchecked government overspending remains unresolved. When the next quarter dawns, Vietnam will not only face the unresolved near billion dong deficit, but also owe 625 milion dong to Swiss creditors.

Meanwhile, in a glimmer of logistical progress, the national railways are scheduled for repair.

Once again, Vietnam stands on borrowed time.

okay to contextualize my thoughts a lit bit

Just, I had seen some posts and I'm unsure if I'm misunderstanding or head got some wire crossed, again, so what I understand is the following:

First it's the Cruciblean believes that extended across Altus & Grave Plains (at least), from which Erdtree worship emergued with Marika leadership, this a pure Faith context.

Second under Radagon first marriage Glinstone ideas got in Erdtree circles of thoughts and later in his second marriage seem that Fundamentalism pop-up with their Int/Faith practices.

Miquella grew up in this Int/Faith enviroment and was guiden by Radagon into the scholastic realm of Fundamentalism where he developed his own branch of magic (Dicus of Light & derivates), which both Haligtree & Fundamentalism employ.

Culturally Haligtree seem to be mostly Altusian, with a devotion to Gold, Greattrees and Amber but excludes the Draconic influence of Godwyn, being their main disagreement with Fundamentalism over whom they welcome (friendlly to basically everyone).

I get that he left Fudamentalism to do his own thing, which at first may sounds like he forsaken it and create something from zero, but seem to me he just branched out, taking a more innovative & experimental aproach.

4) New habits

I've never been one to show off, especially to strangers.

Usually, I'm the kind to solve my issues quickly. My fights are the shortest I can, the foes die in a fraction of second, I am not one to make a duel run for too much time. This is one of the things that differenciate me from my husband. He thrives not in attention, but in making his enemies lose their endurance.

Such is the power of the Immortal.

So, why am I here today, where those crazed berserkers call for blood and performance ? I have no reason to set foot in that arena. No threat weights on my loved ones or my kingdom, I do not need to take up arms, I am safe, I am at peace, I am protected.

So, you ask yourself, why is queen Lina Frosilaen walking on holy grounds she doesn't believe in anymore ? Why is her name so high in the list of participants of the Tournament for Glory ?

Heh. I have to admit, I'm sometimes asking myself the same question.

Today's adversary is a goliath. Not that impressive, I've seen worse, people far more tall and impressive than he is. I suppose it is to be expected. We are only in the first round of the final tournament, the ones managing to be qualified are strong, but not always the strongest.

I see on his face he believes in the price. He believes in the might of War. He's here to win, even if he has to fight renowned warriors of legend and powerful candidates for the benediction.

Am I one of those ?

I don't know. I have no interest in War, nor a grandiose destiny. I already had my fill of legends. Would I reach the top, I would probably forfeit, no matter the cost. No benediction is worth my life.

And that goddess is my daughter-in-law, it's hard to be afraid, in those conditions.

Not interested by the prize, not a amateur in showing off, I have no reasons to be here. I still am, running away from my kingdom to participate, to an extent where if the Mandate government found me, they would chew me out.

So. Why am I here ?

"Lina Frosilaen," says the golath in front of me. "It's an honor."

"So you know who am I."

"A lot of people do."

"This is genuinely surprising. I didn't think the continent cared about what was happening on the other side of the mountains."

And even though the crisis in the Mandate are finally halting, I don't have a lot of subjects taking part in what is, fudamentally, a paper tradition.

I see. So, he will fight until the end. I have to admit, such practices in a tournament are not of my liking. Why throw away your life in such a pointless endeavor ? There is nothing to protect, no lives to save, except yours and those of your foes.

Nevertheless, I suppose I have to admire his will and courage. He probably knows he is surclassed, he still wants to fight.

"What is your name ?"

He tilts his head in surprise.

"It's... Gerelt, your Majesty. Why ?"

"Well, it would be pointless of my part to kill you without knowing how you're called."

The gong is heard.

It's time to begin.

Gerelt lifts his weapons.

One second too late.

One second is more than enough for me to send his body flying.

He is not dead, but almost. No man is quick enough to counter an attack from me if they don't know where I am going to strike. Few are those who can hit me while I'm launched. I've hit a vital point.

Yet he's still alive.

Impressive. This may be more difficult than expected.

Martin Luther King, Jr., wasn't killed for the I Have a Dream speech, where he did as Kennedy asked and went to the March on Washington, and gave a speech about envisioning a post-racial world in which everyone was peaceful and happy, and didn't engage in labor activism or direct action against the brutality of American imperial capitalism. Which is what the March was originally planned to be about.

He was killed 5 years later, after J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI noticed that he had become thoroughly frustrated with the inability to gain Black equality in an American system utterly hostile to it, and started speaking supportively about more radical elements of the movement. Which were firmly anticapitalist and socialist, and by now advocating for a fudamental dismantling of traditional American systems of power and wealth, in favor of new ones that were pro-labor, pro-equality, and utterly intolerant of lies and token handouts.

He wasn't killed when he was a civil rights leader dedicated to telling oppressed Blacks to peacefully and quietly ask the System to be kind. He was killed when he began to accept that maybe the System was in fact the problem. For nearly everyone.
