Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School is a popular YouTube series. Tucker Foley is a star student.
Barbara Gordon's Cram School posts free online courses for both coding and computer engineering. Think Crash Course in terms of entertainment, but college lecture in terms of depth. Hundreds of thousands of viewers flock to it— students who missed a class, people looking to add new skills to a resume, even simple hobbyists. It’s a project Barbara’s proud of.
Sometimes, when she wants to relax, she’ll even hop in the comments and spend an afternoon troubleshooting a viewer’s project with them.
User “Fryer-Tuck” has especially interesting ones. Barbara finds herself seeking out his comments, checking in on whatever this crazy kid is making next. An app for collecting GPS pings and assembling them on a map in real-time, an algorithm that connects geographic points to predict something’s movement taking a hundred other variables into account, simplified versions of incredibly complex homemade programs so they can run on incredibly limited CPU’s.
(Barbara wants to buy the kid a PC. It seems he’s got natural talent, but he keeps making reference to a PDA. Talk about 90’s! This guy’s hardware probably predates his birth.)
She chats with him more and more, switching to less public PM threads, and eventually, he opens up. His latest project, though, is not something Barbara has personal experience with.
FT: so if you found, hypothetically, a mysterious glowing substance that affects tech in weird and wacky ways that could totally have potential but might be vaguely sentient/otherworldly…. what would you do and how would you experiment with it. safely, of course. and hypothetically
BG: I’d make sure all my tests were in disposable devices and quarantined programs to keep it from infecting my important stuff. Dare I ask… how weird and wacky is it?
FT: uhhh. theoretically, a person composed of this substance once used it to enter a video game. like physical body, into the computer, onto the screen? moving around and talking and fighting enemies within the game?
FT: its been experimented with before, but not on any tech with a brain. just basic shields and blasters and stuff, its an energy source. also was put in a car once
FT: i wanna see how it affects software, yk? bc i already know it can. mess around and see how far i can push it
BG: […]
FT: … barbara?
BG: Sorry, thinking. Would you mind sharing more details? You said “blasters?”
Honestly. Kid genius with access to some truly wacky materials and even wackier weapons, she needs to start a file on him before he full sends to either hero or villain.
[OR: Tucker is a self-taught hacker, but if he were to credit a teacher, he'd name Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School! He's even caught the attention of Dr. Gordon herself. She's full of sage advice, and with how she preaches the value of a good VPN, he's sure she's not pro-government. Maybe she'll help him as he studies the many applications of ecto-tech!]
#she does end up sending tucker a PC lol#and after she learns he has experience supporting a superhero team maybe pushes his name forward to WEs outreach program for r&d potentials#picks him up by the scruff and says MY coding buddy#also fun fact she had a phd in library science at one point. i like that about her i think we should talk about it a little more#also tucker was making a ghost reporting & tracking app for amity parkers#dpxdc#dcxdp#barbara gordon#tucker foley#prompt#kipwrite

"the reason adrien is just instantly good at everything he tries is because he is programmed to be that way as a senti" aside from the fact that i don't think that's how it works (and also while he was decent at everything he tried with marinette he wasn't instantly good at all of them, and what marinette actually said to him was that he could improve in anything with practice but it was a great first attempt) did we all collectively forget about how adrien actually canonically isn't the best singer?

#adrien agreste#miraculous#miraculous ladybug#ml s6 spoilers#ml season 6#ml climatiqueen#miraculous spoilers#ml spoilers#actually never saw that episode in french so maybe the french voice actor did a better job idk but given that adrien doesn't#usually sing for kitty section or ever the way i saw it was he used his poetry writing skills to write a song#and as a songwriter he was probably great but being a good lyricist doesn't make you a great singer obviously#so to me that's what his deal is#i actually like that throughout this show adrien has some things he picks up easily and some things he has to work on and might never do as#well as people with more experience#i also think as a kids show the lesson they want to put out is anyone can improve with effort and attempt#like he fumbled that science lab experiment but enjoys particle physics#languages tend to come easily to him precisely because it's been something he was forced to do since he was young#a lot of polygots especially if they start young develop skills and see linguistic patterns and iirc he already knew some#japanese from anime and his familiarity with mandarin should help#but i love that he took it further and took on morse code like the cute nerd he is#and now he's studying ancient greek for fun??? what a cute#marinette says his macarons tasted fine but we saw him struggle with the creme#what i mean to say is#he has discipline (basically second nature now) and dedication so he can do well but it DOES require effort#and i think it dismisses how much adrien TRIES or the fact that a lot of skills he was taught to have since a young age aid him#and i just don't think all sentis are “perfect” in an AI robotic way (even if that's how their parents wished they were)#it also just lessens his humanity and iirc the writers have stated multiple times that they are still human#(we can discuss how inconsistent ml is about sentis in general but eh idc for that conversation tbh agdhsjsjks)#anyway adrien will forever be#my nerdy son i love him so much

I recently watched that TikTok of someone building what's supposed to be a particle accelerator out of Hot Wheels track pieces
And at first I thought about actually making it work, but then I thought about those comments saying stuff like "Imagine how painful it is if it flung out of the track"
And of course I thought about Science Dad Au cause it tickles my brain and I love it as a concept so much
#gravity falls#stanley pines#stanford pines#dipper pines#science sad au#i hope Dipper liooks younger here#i sadly did not have the kid reference from the show#and i was too lazy to look it up#also Stanford doing fun experiments with his kids is also something that tickles my brain#i just love it so much as a concept

#FORGOT TO POST HERE. yes ill post a science experiment of an art piece w a dramatic caption. who do u think i am this is my BRAND#i am nothing if not consistent. and dramatic. and this boy's mom. i love him#i do stuff like this sometimes to go 110% in the loose direction to remind my hands they can do that#my art style leans stiffer and exercises like squiggles are good for muscle memory and exploring new expression its fun#i can draw a million different art styles if i must but i want the default to have a lil more flow yaknow. (that rhymes <3)#ill never get over how fun the imagery potential of his little miserable depression map moment is. the white hexagons of woe#tastee#twst#twisted wonderland#twst silver#suntails

Experimentation (Patreon)
#Doodles#UT#Handplates#Sans#Papyrus#Continuing the theme of memories and what Gaster ruined for them haha#He doesn't even have to be here and he's making their lives harder! Par for the course#Lots of things have the potential to trigger their memories - a familiar smell or a food they recognize#But there were so many things they never experienced and sifting between them is very difficult!#Especially considering most of what they ''remember'' is actually just their Reaction to Something - like the smoke smell making them tense#Sans here getting a Reaction for sure tho - being questioned and experimented on does Not feel good#It's Papyrus doing it so that's one thing but even still - not having fun with this#Papyrus is so curious! He wants to know! He always seems to be a bit left out on finding things out haha#Sans being the more science-minded of the two probably has an impact there - ask your brother he'll help figure it out#Unless he really doesn't want to because it feels weird please stop (lol)#Still tho being asked to eat things as an experiment? ''oh hey bro maybe going to grillby's will remind me of something'' ''SANS'' lol#Papyrus didn't mean anything by continuing to ask questions he's just curious!#Sans goes to write down the results and then feels Even Worse so scribbles them out#''don't tell me what to do!'' directed nowhere in particular#Tries really hard to put it out of him mind A Lot#This remembering business sure is uncomfortable!#Look what you did Gaster you took a perfectly fun data-gathering session and turned it into something they'll need therapy for!

There has been some welding and grinding of the metal stair-rail, sending showers of little metal fragments all down the adjacent wall. It turns out the drywall screws, under their layers of patching compound and paint, are slightly magnetic.
#house construction is several circles of hell#the unexpected science experiments are sometimes fun though#magnets#how do they work?

thinking about her a lot
#pandora rosier#my favorite carnivorous plant#she's back in my mind non stop -> finally i'd say#let me yap about her#she is a mediocre “woman of science” treated like a genius#she does silly/simple experiments for fun but her family and privileged aristocrats friends acclaim her as the smartest woman in the world#she claims to be a science expert but in reality she only reads newspapers that list the discoveries of her time#and she can't even understand them. everyone is amazed by her empty words#she hosts her rich friends in the living rooms of her palace and shows everyone the things she has been working on recently#while her brother spends all the money they don't have -> she's the heir of the family#in reality what she's really good at are tricks and illusions. she creates mazes/mechanisms/locks. she loves riddles.#they say she's crazy but she's just self-centered. all those unfounded compliments have gone to her head.#and the only time she actually does an experiment it explodes in her face and kills her.#fuckkkk she has so much potential#rosier twins#rosier family#pandora/t

the annoying thing about my thesis topic (real world dialects in fantasy settings and how that reflects linguistic bias) is that when i describe it to people, I either get people who immediately get it and are excited about the topic, or I get people staring at me blankly and just going "oh." and usually the people who are excited about it are not linguists
#i know it's a very common experience in academia to be met with blank stares when you share your research topic#but usually that's from people who AREN'T in your field#not from people who ARE#idk. it's just a bummer knowing that I'm studying something I know is worthwhile#but isn't respected as linguistic research within linguistic academia at large#all the more reason I think academia isn't for me in the long run lol#I'll finish this degree and then move into library science so i can just work in a public library forever#and do my linguistic media analysis for fun like I have been doing for years

Everyone who hasn’t REPEATEDLY been under anesthesia thinks it’s so fun and interesting. Well it’s fun once or twice until it’s your 5th time waking up from it then it’s not so fun is it
#then you get the air bubble under your skin. and the body aches. and the repeated vomiting. and the anesthesia breath eugh i hate that#and suddenly it’s not a fun science experiment anymore.. I dread the day I have to go under again 😭
