A/N: Hi! This was third most requested on the poll! I hope you guys enjoy, it took me forever to think of a story OMG!
Characters: BAU Team, Reader Y/N
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner X Reader
Warnings: Soft!Dom Aaron, description of crime scenes, antagonizing, sensitive neck area, implied smut but no actual, teasing, lots of kissing towards the end, pretty cute ending, praise kink, spitting (spits into her mouth once), getting interrupted (they were just kissing, don't worry), (Let me know if I missed anything!)
Summary: After getting on your new boss's bad-side, you face his irritation throughout your case. When you get back, however, it seems he's a better profiler than you thought.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was her first official day at the Bureau. She had been training alongside a different team for a few weeks before being sent to work with the BAU.
When she entered the conference room, she was greeted by a woman in a dashingly bright outfit. "Hi! I'm Penelope Garcia, technical analyst for the BAU. You're the new agent, right?"
Y/N nodded and shook her hand, a faint smile on her lips. "Hi, yeah. I'm Y/N Y/L/N." She stated simply, pulling out a chair to sit down. Penelope stepped out of the room for a moment, calling the rest of the team in.
One by one, they all piled in. Two other women came to shake her hand and she declined, passing it off with a joke. They didn't seem to mind, sitting down beside her and engaging in small talk.
The last person to come in was an older man dressed in a nice suit, clean cut black hair and dark brown eyes. She perked up, recognizing him immediately.
SSA Aaron Hotchner, BAU Unit chief.
"Y/L/N, good to finally meet you. We've heard great things." He complimented, reaching out to shake her hand. She gave a sharp smile, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Thanks, unfortunately I can't say the same about you." She set her hand on top of his, gently pushing it down to decline his offer. He noticeably stiffened, and the room filled with tension. "Excuse me?" He questioned, brows knitted tight together.
"I mean, you're practically a rogue agent. You're constantly under the microscope," She shook her head with a quiet laugh, "And from what I hear, you've always been off the rails, even with a stick up your ass."
Before Aaron could respond, Garcia interrupted, getting into the grimy details of a murder in Colorado. After the brief, everyone exited the room, leaving Y/N and Hotchner in the room alone.
His hand clamped down on her shoulder, squeezing tight as he leaned in behind her. "I advise you to stay in your lane. Keep that dirty little mouth of yours shut." He whispered in her ear.
She felt her breath hitch in her throat, heat rising to her cheeks. He patted her on the back before stepping out, returning to his office to collect his to-go bag.
She stood up and grabbed her bag from beneath her, already prepared for her first day. When she made it to the jet, she claimed a seat next to the blonde woman, who she vaguely remembered as Jennifer.
"Rogue agent, huh?" The older man in front of her asked. She studied him, his fingers in a triangle shape resting on the table, grey hair blooming within his black strands.
She grinned and nodded, leaning back into her chair. "I can't repeat what I've heard?" She prodded, tapping her foot on the ground. She knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but she didn't care.
As if he read her mind, he hunched forward and reciprocated her smirk. "Not if you want to last longer than day one. You may have heard some interesting things about Aaron, but I'm sure you've also heard that he doesn't take bullshit from anyone. Especially not from beginners."
She swallowed hard, feeling everyone's eyes on her. She tried to think of a witty response, something to drag her out of the pit she was in. Her brain paused when the same hand from before ruffled her hair, a stiff smile on Aaron's face. "I'm sure it was a mistake on her part. Right, Y/N?"
She nearly choked, reaching up to fix her hair. "Whatever helps you sleep at night." She croaked out, an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach. Rossi just shook his head and 'tsked' in disapproval.
After another quick conversation about the case, Aaron paired everyone up. "Morgan, JJ, you check out the body. Rossi, Prentiss and Reid, set up with local PD."
After not addressing her, she raised a brow. She turned to face him, an annoyed look on her features. "What about me?" She questioned, and he gave her a smug grin.
"You're with me. We'll examine the crime scene." Was all he said, turning his attention back to the file. She slumped in her chair, glaring at Morgan when she heard him chuckle.
Dammit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So what do you see?" He quizzed her, motioning towards the crimson stained kitchen. She studied it for a moment, chewing the inside of her cheek as she thought.
"Rage fueled kill. Blood painted on the walls, clearly over-kill. He doesn't like authority figures, this is the third he's killed this week." She explained and he scoffed.
"You aren't projecting, are you?" He asked her, and she froze. "What do you mean?" Her fists balled up, biting her lip to withhold any rude remarks she might let slip.
"You have issues with figures of authority. You tried to embarrass me in front of my team, and the whole drive here you ignored everything I've had to tell you." He stepped closer to her, his dark eyes boring into hers.
"If I had to guess I'd assume parental issues. You have a sharp tongue, a defense mechanism to keep people at arms reach. Should I keep going?" He had a stern, yet calm look in his eyes. She bit her cheek and pondered, unsure how to respond.
"You're uncomfortable." He noted and she raised a brow. "Am not. You're not as intimidating as you think, Aaron." She snapped back, and he stepped even closer, his face mere inches away.
"I didn't say intimidated, but thank you for letting me know that's how I make you feel." He smiled down at her, making her stomach churn. She turned on her heel and hurried out, slamming the front door behind her.
He chuckled and shook his head, walking out behind her. "Where are you going?" He asked and she crossed her arms, stopping at the end of the road. "Away from you." She muttered and he stopped a few feet in front of her.
"You're acting like a child. Get in the car, now." She huffed and brushed past him, ramming her shoulder into his as she went. He had to hold back from grabbing her and slamming her onto the car.
She slid into the passenger seat, throwing her feet up on the dash and sinking her teeth into their spot in her cheek. Aaron got into the driver seat and stared at her.
"I understand this is your way of defiance, but it's not amusing. Legs down." He ordered and she unwillingly obeyed. "Sorry." She spat, sarcasm creeping in her tone.
"Being a brat isn't gonna work for you, not with me at least." He warned her and she barely nodded, glancing over at him. She didn't know why, but she kind of liked it when he talked to her like this.
However, she couldn't help but want the softer side of him too. He felt her staring as he drove to the local police department, finding it cute when he looked at he and she turned away.
"You're a lot more shy than I expected." He told her, making her look away again. "Pardon?" She croaked, heat rushing up her neck. He set his hand down on her knee and his thumb rubbed circles against it.
"Nothing, just keep your act together."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the case, Y/N was waiting in Aarons office. They had tension all throughout the trip, getting her in trouble and now having to have a mandatory "behavioral conversation."
When he entered the office, he closed the door quietly and turned to face her. His face was stone cold, unreadable and harsh. She bit her lip and fidgeted in her lap, picking at her nailbeds.
He sat down in front of her and cleared his throat. "Is this what you wanted?" He questioned her, catching her off guard. "I don't understand?" She responded, her tone rising at the end a bit too high for her liking.
"I'm a profiler, Y/N. It's my job to study behavior. What did you think you would get by throwing tantrums?" His words made her squirm, understanding what he was referring to.
She didn't respond, looking down at her legs and trying not to drown in humiliation. He chuckled and stood up, making his way behind her. He slowly started to knead her shoulders, earning a quiet gasp from her lips.
"I know, Sweetheart. You just want to be a good girl, yeah?" He cooed, adding more pressure and making her moan. She nodded and squeezed her thighs together. "Th-this is inappropriate." She mumbled between quiet groans and he smiled down at her, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.
"You don't seem to care about what's appropriate or not, don't start pretending now." He whispered and she melted, her hands clawing at her knees.
His thumbs pressed into her neck, pressing nerves within and making her recoil, an unexpected moan bellowing out of her. He quirked a brow and raised one of his hands around the back of her neck.
"Well, that was interesting." He remarked before squeezing down on the pressure points, forcing her to curl up, such an intense reaction from such a little gesture.
Incoherent whimpers and whines escaped her lips, her hand buried between thighs as she tried to gain friction. He chuckled and shook his head. "Needy girl."
He jerked her head back, forcing another moan out of her. Her mouth hung open, eyes glazed and cheeks flushed. He loomed over her, spitting into her mouth.
He took his hand away from her neck and spun her chair around, crouching down in front of her with a small smile. "Swallow, pretty girl."
She obeyed, nodding mindlessly as she did. He kissed the top of her knee and then stood up, gesturing for her to do the same. He cupped her cheek and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer.
"Go to your office, get all your paperwork done, and then come meet me back here." He looked so comforting, and he felt that way too. "Okay.. I can do that." She spoke barely above a whisper, still flustered from the situation.
He smiled and leaned down, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek. She wanted more, but didn't say anything, just carefully pulled away and walked towards the door.
He grabbed her arm and brought her back to him, her chest flushed with his. "Use your words." He prompted her, and she bit her lip, a small smile of her own growing.
"Kiss me, please."
He leaned down and their lips met, a slow but passionate kiss. His hands slid around her waist and he crossed his wrists above her hips, bringing her impossibly closer.
Her hands cupped his cheeks and he smiled, the warm feeling of her palms making his shoulders relax.
Suddenly, Penelope and Emily barged through the door, David, JJ and Morgan not far behind them. "Dinner at Rossi's-" Penelope started in a cheery voice, but froze when she saw them.
Quickly, Y/N broke away from Hotch, her back to him as she smiled awkwardly. Emily's jaw was practically on the floor, and Garcia gasped.
"Oh my," She whispered, and Morgan glanced over her shoulder, quickly catching on to the situation. "Aaron. Hotchner. Gettin' some lovin' from the newbie is not something I expected." He teased and Y/N felt her face warming, something she was getting used to now at the BAU.
"Guys, it's not-" Aaron started but was quickly cut off by JJ. "This was not something I had on my bingo card this year." She joked as she sped away with Reid, who was quickly mumbling some facts about business hook-ups.
Following in suit, Penelope grabbed the door handle and apologized repeatedly. "Just come find us when you two are done." She said quickly as she slammed the door.
Aaron leaned down and snaked an arm around her, pulling her closer once more. "We'll catch up on this later." He said as he kissed her temple.
"Do I still have to do my paperwork?" She asked in a fake-innocent voice. "Absolutely," He said before leaving soft, bruising kisses down her neck. "But you can wait until tomorrow."
She rested her head back on his chest, breathy moans parting her lips. "That's not fair. I should get special privileges now." She pleaded and he sunk his teeth into her neck, making her gasp.
"You're a smart girl, you can do a little bit of work. I'll even reward you if you do a good job." He teased, squeezing her hip with his free hand. She giggled and moved his face up to kiss him, their lips easily melting together.
"Hurry up you two! This is Y/N's first cooking lesson!" Garcia yelled through the door. Hotch let out a quiet groan as he finally pulled away, placing a few more quick kisses all over the side of her face.
She giggled and hollered back, "We're coming!" He gave a playful tap to her ass and she waited for him to grab his coat before leaving. "I didn't expect that sleeping with my boss would make my co-workers like me so much." She joked and he raised his brows suggestively, collecting his stuff from beside the desk.
"We haven't slept together yet, but that's a great idea for dessert."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed! I finished this at three AM so I'm sorry if its a bit rushed or messy. This is my first Hotch fic so it took me a bit longer to get a decent idea.
Feel free to send in requests! <3 Like, comment, and follow :)

❤21 with Zenji please!
❤️21 writer's choice!
Tumblr media
Being a ghost came with some habits that were quite hard to break. Kinda surprising though, how one could create new routines despite being dead. You’d think they’d become a still frame of who they were before, but no; apparently ghosts could very well develop new mannerisms much like a living person.
Zenji’s little habit was getting way too close to you.
He didn’t see the harm in it; it’s not like he could touch you at all. His presence had no weight to it and his words had no warm breath in them, so he would just enjoy the opportunity and lean over – talk to you barely a few centimeters away from your face and lay down next to you at night, inspecting every little pore of your face like you were a little rare specimen and he was an electronic microscope.
You tried telling him time and time again that he should give you a little bit of space, but he went on with some flowery and convoluted explanation as to why he just had to be close to you, and he took great pleasure in the fact that you couldn’t physically push him away.
Well, at least not until you found that little new pet of yours.
It seemed harmless, the little thing. It was like a much smaller version of a sheep. It had the size of a hedgehog, with a pitch black coat and piercing purple eyes. You had told Zenji you had found him (him?) at the woods, then taken him to Jabberwock to be properly attended to, but the darned little anomaly just wouldn’t leave your side. Isn’t Bopeep cute, though? (Bopeep? You had already named it?!)
Zenji fretted for a little while, as the anomaly slept on your shoulder.
“My dear! What if it is dangerous? We can never know when it comes to anomalies! What if it opens its mouth and sucks you into a black hole! Oh, the thought alone brings tears to my eyes!”
You laughed at Zenji’s worried speech as you pet the small head of the sheep anomaly.
“I talked to Haru about it, Zenji! He assured me Bopeep is human safe, but I have him on speed dial if anything weird happens.”
“I see!” he exclaimed, putting one hand over his chest in relief “So he knows the species of this new friend of yours?”
You nodded.
“Apparently it’s called a Duttur. He showed me a book about well-known anomalies, so I could read about it too, since I didn’t have all the beginner 1st year classes, after all.”
Zenji sighed dramatically and sat right beside you. The small yard besides your dorm was small but cozy, and you two had taken a liking to hanging out together in that calm, private place.
“That’s a relief! So I presume you read all about this new little friend of yours, yes?”
You grinned mischievously, nodding again.
“I read all about him and that’s exactly why I wanted to show him to you.”
Zenji tilted his head curiously as you scooted to the front of him, the sudden movement waking Bopeep up.
“Oops, sorry little guy.” you murmured apologetically to the miniature sheep before turning to Zenji. “Anyway, I read something about him and I had to make sure it was true. Stay still for a moment, please.”
The tall man straightened his back, still tilting his head as he had no idea what you were trying to do.
You had positioned yourself right in front of him. Both of you had your legs crossed, knees just a few millimeters apart. You swallowed hard as you raised a trembling hand towards Zenji. Despite the few seconds of hesitation, you mustered up the courage and went for his hands, folded on his lap.
You could feel the cold texture of his skin against your fingertips.
Smiling brightly and relieved, you turned to face Zenji, who couldn’t take his eyes off of your hand touching his. Mouth agape, he opened his palm and slowly intertwined his fingers with yours, feeling the cold sweat of your palms dampen his own.
He turned his head towards you, still in disbelief, despite the few tears that seemed well up in his eyes.
“My dear… How is this possible?” he murmured, voice hoarse.
You couldn’t stop smiling while you grabbed his other hand and held it tightly.
“Apparently Bopeep does have a little danger to him, after all. It allows humans to see and touch spirits and other entities like that” you snickered, “It’s pretty useful for someone who’s friends with a ghost, though, don’t you think?”
Zenji blinked, dumbfounded.
In a brief moment, however, he tackled you into a hug, harshly throwing you to the ground. He ended up tumbling onto the grass after phasing through you like he usually did.
“What?! Why?!” he cried out, frustrated.
You laughed at his outburst.
“I have to be touching Bopeep in order to be able to touch you too. If you knock him out of me, we won’t be able to touch.” you pointed at the small anomaly that was bleating in anger, after being thrown to its back on the grass, little legs struggling to turn itself upright.
“Oh! My apologies, my little sheep friend” Zenji exclaimed. He got up on his feet and went to help the anomaly, hesitating for a moment before holding it in his hands and looking ecstatic that he could touch it.
You rose as well, approaching the tall man.
“So... do you want to try hugging now?” you bashfully suggested, feet kicking the ground.
Zenj quickly turned his head towards you and, after carefully putting the anomaly on your shoulder, he circled his arms around you while you tightly hugged his waist, both sighing happily at the feeling of being in each other's arm.
He was much taller than you, so you had to rest your cheek against his broad chest, while he laid his on the top of your head. You could make out a faint scent of jasmine wafting off of his skin and clothes as you pressed closer to his body.
The absence of his heartbeat didn’t go unnoticed by you, but you could feel his deep breathing – his chest moved up and down slowly, a pace so comforting that made you sleepy, despite him not needing to breathe anymore – an unconscious habit he probably could never let go of, even after death.
And speaking of habits…
“You won’t be able to stay super close to me at all times now that we can touch, you know? That will be very disconcerting if you do” you said, voice muffled against him.
“No, no, my dear! You must know that old habits die hard!” he protested, rubbing his cheek against the top of your head and successfully messing up your hair.
You could feel the way he nuzzled his nose against you, shamelessly feeling the scent of your hair and sighing loud and happy.
You exhaled softly, relaxing in his arms despite his stubborn words. You were willing to let that be a little problem for later.
Right now, you just wanted to stay close to the one person you so desperately wanted to touch.

Writer's notes:
Duttur: Mesopotamian sheep goddess best known as the mother of Dumuzid. She frequently appears in texts mourning his death, either on her own or alongside Geshtinanna and Inanna.
Bopeep: comes from the nursery rhyme Little Bo Peep:
Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,
And doesn't know where to find them;
Leave them alone, and they'll come home,
Wagging (bringing) their tails behind them.
I honestly just wanted to give the anomaly I made up a cute name like Peekaboo lol
p.s.: if anyone decides to draw Bopeep by any chance, please tag me 😭

Hihi, I know you aren't looking to open commissions anytime soon, but do you have any good resources, references, and recommendations for someone wanting to get into the fandom and make their own OC to be able to integrate with the setting and eventually get art done?
^~^;;
I know very little, myself, but a friend has a passion for it and I want to indulge them in RPs, as well as yourself and various other blogs here showing me some high quality husband-quality bots
Any insight and such would be greatly appreciated!
~💖
Putting effort into your friendship, that's very sweet of you!
The best way to get into the Transformers mindset and learn something about it is to either watch one of the series/movies or read the IDW or Skybound comics. The fastest way is, of course, to watch something.
I answered an Ask with suggestions for "beginners" not that long ago which you can check out here:
If you don't mind watching stuff on YouTube, the official Transformers YouTube channel has uploaded episodes of several Transformers series. You can check out their playlists for a series that might tickle your fancy, or your friend has brought up before: https://www.youtube.com/@TransformersOfficial/playlists. Not all series are on there, unfortunately, but you can always put on a pirate hat and take to virtual sea if you don't have access to streaming services hosting these series.
If you don't have the time to watch series/movies or read comics, there is always the TFwiki which hosts info about every character and series in existence, and even does episode/issue summaries. The site may be overwhelming to dig through as a new fandom goer because there is just ssoooo much info to soak up (forty years worth!), but it can be helpful if you need to look something up.
When it comes to drawing the bots or creating your own, I made a post a week ago with two "how to draw Transformers" tutorial links that might be helpful with the creation of an OC:
Under the cut, I'll give some simple basics about the lore usually present in any TF series.
---
Transformers are a robotic race called Cybertronians from the planet Cybertron. These large robotic aliens can transform into vehicles or devices and survive on an energy source they call energon.
There are two prominent factions present on Cybertron: the Autobots and the Decepticons. As their name implies, Autobots take on the appearance of (recreational) vehicles like cars or motorcycles to blend in better on Earth (robots in disguise, da da da da daaa) while the Decepticons turn into more destructive (war) vehicles and weaponry like tanks and jets. This is usually the norm but there are some exceptions as there are Decepticons with car alt-modes. And then there are also boomboxes, cassettes and cassette players, memory sticks, and microscope alt-modes, to name a few that aren't vehicle-centered. The options are endless, as long as they serve a purpose.
Unfortunately, the two factions have been at war on Cybertron and neighboring planets for 4 million years, and have nearly depleted the planet(s) of its resources. To survive and hopefully win the war, the Autobots go on a voyage into deep space to try and find more. The Decepticons give chase, only for them all to crashland on Earth and be stuck there.
It takes centuries for them to wake from the crashlanding, but when they do, they find out Earth is an energon utopia and the Decepticons are eager to conquer the planet and take it all for themselves. The Autobots take a stance against them and try to protect Earth and its people, leading to several ties and friendships with humans (but also wobbly alliances).
---
Decide which faction your OC is part of and what their alt-mode might be and you already have a good foundation for your character.
Good luck, and have fun!

Emmrich Lucien snowed in, for the WIP Folder Game, please 😁
This is the one I'm actively fighting to finish! I was overly ambitious with my deadline and regret it a lot!
Emmrich & Lucien get snowed in to a little town. They have fun in the snow, spend lots of time together, and there's only one bed.
First draft, be kind. Also, some of my notes are left in it.
“Finally, Emmrich and I will be heading to Cumberland to access their special collections and to consult with a few experts there. There isn’t an eluvian, so we’ve arranged to travel there from the Necropolis. We should be gone for several weeks, so in the meantime, everyone be careful and watch each other’s backs.”
“Since only two of us are going,” said Davrin, glancing up from his carving with a face that almost could have ben innocent, if he’d managed to keep the corner of his mouth from twitching, “it’s a good thing it’s you and the Professor. You know, since you’re both so good at watching each other’s…backs.”
Lucien narrowed his eyes and glared at his friend, even as a blush creeped up the back of his neck and up to his cheeks, damning him. Last night in Treviso, Davrin had noticed when he just happened to glance over when Emmrich had been bent over, and hadn’t let it go since. He didn’t dare turn to look at Emmrich, but out of the corner of his eye, he could see there was color high on his cheeks as well. Perfect.
-
Emmrich walked out of the Necropolis into the bright Nevarran sun, warm on his skin despite the chill of the day. He set down his bag for a moment to look for Rook through the crush of carriages doing their morning business, and finally saw him, across the way. His heart warmed as he simply obbserved him for a moment.
He stood with two novices, the pair both gangly and sleepy-eyed in their beginner’s robes. They stood around with all the grace puberty typically afforded, but watched attentively as Rook - Watcher Ingellvar, he reminded himself, it was Lucien he was witnessing here - reloading the rather poorly stacked crates. He slowly lashed them down, talking and gesturing as the youths nodded along, then untied it again and gestured for them to try.
Lucien glanced around the carriage field, and it was most charming, the way his face lit up when he saw him. He waved, which Emmrich returned before finally heading over himself, bag in hand.
“Professor Volkarin! Just in time, I was just finishing up teaching these two how to safely load up a ca-Emmrich.” Emmrich followed his exasperated gaze to the additional bag in hand.
“Ah, yes, I just remembered a few things. I-” He frowned at the way Lucien was clearly fighting back a smile. “When going on a journey, one should be prepared for any eventuality!”
“Of course, Professor,” Lucien said, and he bent and took the bag, giving a playful wink before turning and helping attach them bag.
He was always doing things like that; little winks, little comments, little touches that, shamefully, always struck him like a bolt.
It was harmless, of course;  he was under no illusion that any of these harmless flirtations meant anything more. It was appealing, that’s all, to be imagined as attractive to such a dashing young man.
If only the others hadn’t taken notice, picking up apparently on is latent attraction, and using it to put them under the microscope HEY EDIT THIS WORD IT BETTER DO THEY EVEN HAVE MICROSCOPES
He understood why. Lucien did prefer his presence; this much he knew to be true. The young man seemed to relish at having another watcher in the Lighthouse - simple homesickness, he’d thought at first. He hadn’t realized until the others commented that his mannerisms - the way he affected his voice, down to the way he dressed - had changed. Apparently, seeing the others accept Emmrich had given him the ability to behave as came naturally to him, something, he gleaned, hadn’t always been a possibility as they traveled on the way to Solas. Understandably - the South in particular struggled with misunderstanding their work- but it still warmed his heart that his presence made Lucien feel more at home. HOLY EXPOSITION BATMAN

No April Fool's today—just wanted to check in and report that Felicity Henderson just dropped a new Hooke biography last month, so check it out! You can get it in hardcover or Kindle edition for only around $20 (in the US), and at less than 200 pages it makes a great gift for beginners who wish to learn about Hooke.
It also includes some colored photos, including that one portrait of Boyle.
Tumblr media
I also found this neat Hooke microscope from Japan! It came as a freebie with Volume 5 of Adult Science magazine, and it really works.
The kit is actually a 2-in-1 gift that includes a "Plankton (sea monkey) breeding set". The point of it is to observe the microscopic creatures as they develop.
Unfortunately, because this set was released in 2004, the chances of the eggs still being viable is very slim. 😅
Tumblr media
But at the very least, I was blown away when I put them under the scope to test it out. Even at only 150x, it's an impressive toy. What looked like fine little specks of black pepper to the naked eye became what resembled ping pong balls under the microscope.
Tumblr media
The microscope comes with plastic specimen slides, a (very sharp!) needle for holding specimens, as well as a very tiny candle to use with the water scope. While it's much more practical to simply use a lamp as a light source, as a prop it makes it appear more authentic.
By the way, the same magazine also released a kit in 2006 for a Newtonian moon telescope. I don't have one of these, but I have to admit it would look great on my shelf.
Tumblr media
"Learn everything about Newton"
Dude looks like he just learned about every mortal sin I've ever committed and is judging me for it.

summary: a new job in the laboratory as a biologist brought you new acquaintances and even feelings, but you did not expect that it would be so confusing. content: luis serra x gn reader tags: fluff, hurt x comfort, falling in love, flirting, kisses. author's note: first long work for luis and maybe this is contain kind of my headcanons about him, but i hope you'll enjoy this one) enjoy your reading) 🧪
Tumblr media
When you first started working in the laboratory, the atmosphere on the first day of work was charged with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness, the unfamiliar environment, the buzz of activity and the feeling that you are a beginner aroused suspicion when you walked through the confusing corridors and entered the noisy laboratory, your heart was pounding from anxiety and uncertainty.
The sight of complex equipment, rows of lab tables, and researchers absorbed in their work was both awe inspiring and terrifying, and you were acutely aware of the weight of expectations on your shoulders, the desire to make a positive impression, and the longing to find your footing in this new environment.
Amid a sea of faces, Luis Serra stood out like a familiar beacon, his presence exuding confidence and approachability, a combination that drew you in despite your misgivings, his warm smile was like a lifeline in a sea of uncertainty, and the twinkle in his eyes promised camaraderie.
As you cautiously stepped forward, Luis noticed your uncertain expression and approached with slight grace, his charismatic charm immediately relaxing you — «First day, huh?» he asked with friendly warmth in his voice, the words were like a balm, soothing the trembling that had taken root in you.
He introduced himself, his laughter and casual demeanor dispelling the tension that had been building up in his stomach.
He shared stories of his early days in the lab, emphasizing that everyone was once where you are now, his words were both uplifting and motivating, reminding you that you are not alone in this moment.
Luis's willingness to take you under his wing and show you around lessened your fears, he walked you through the intricacies of the lab, introduced you to colleagues, explained protocols and answered any questions with genuine interest, his presence turned the intimidating atmosphere into one of camaraderie and support, as if you were now part of the team, not an outsider.
As the day progressed, the initial anxiety gave way to a sense of belonging, the atmosphere changed from insecurity to curiosity, from nervousness to excitement, Luis's friendly gestures, support and genuine interest in making you feel comfortable set the stage for a new chapter in your scientific journey.
The memory of running into Louis that first day remains cherished —a chance encounter that set the tone for your time in the lab, an atmosphere of anxiety replaced by an atmosphere of opportunity fueled by an unexpected bond with someone who would become both a mentor and a further friend.
᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
The lab hummed with an orchestral symphony of activity, fluorescent lights hummed softly overhead, casting sterile light onto rows of lab tables adorned with assorted equipment, the air was faintly scented with chemicals and solutions, a distinctive odor that indicated the field of science.
The rhythmic clinking of glass on glass created a subtle harmony as researchers pipetted precise drops of liquid into waiting vessels, microscopes stood like silent sentries, their eyepieces revealed hidden worlds in slides and specimens, the periodic buzz of a centrifuge interrupted the background hum, its vortex motion separated substances from moderate efficiency.
Laughter and hushed conversations rippled through the air as colleagues shared their thoughts and discoveries, teams of scientists gathered around blackboards covered in hastily scribbled equations and diagrams and collaborated to unlock the mysteries of the natural world.
The laboratory was a place of special attention where the desire for knowledge was combined with the excitement of experimentation, data screens flickering with graphs and charts, each line and point was a puzzle piece waiting to be deciphered.
Papers, notebooks and open textbooks scattered across the surface testify to the ongoing search for understanding.
Amidst this controlled chaos, there was an atmosphere of camaraderie — the researchers exchanged knowing glances and nods, their shared passion for discovery made connections beyond their projects, the clatter of keyboards and the quiet rustle of lab coats providing the backdrop for a symposium of intelligence and exploration.
The laboratory was a canvas where ideas flourished and innovation flourished, it was a space where the boundaries between the known and the unknown were pushed apart and where the search for truth was pursued with unwavering determination, and in this tapestry of science and research, amid the hum of machines and the smell of decisions, a tender story unfolded affections, weaving their intricate threads into the bright fabric of the laboratory atmosphere.
᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Working alongside Luis Serra was a whirlwind of charisma and playfulness, every day in the lab was filled with his infectious energy, and his flirtatious nature added excitement to even the most mundane tasks.
As you both put on your lab coats and gathered around your work area, Luis grinned mischievously and said — «You know, you've got that scientific allure today, you're making those molecules bond and my heart race!» his words were accompanied by a wink that would make anyone's heart flutter.
Laughing, you answered — «Luis, you're like a walking encyclopedia of cheesy pickup lines» the banter was a constant undercurrent weaving a sense of intimacy between the two of you.
During the experiments, Luis's voice became conspiratorial — «Watch closely, sweetheart, chemistry isn't just about reactions — it's about sparks too, and believe me, i'm an expert at igniting them» he pointed dramatically at the boiling solutions, playfully raising an eyebrow.
— «Is that so?» you sneer, raising an eyebrow in mock skepticism — «I thought you were more into biology than chemistry»
— «Ah, but the laws of attraction apply everywhere» he thought, leaning closer — «Just like how the right elements come together to create a beautiful compound, so do people»
The teasing didn't stop on the lab bench, even during lunch breaks Luis's flirtatious comments continued to brighten up the atmosphere — «You know, senorita, you're like a rare specimen in this jungle of research, my heart races every time i see you navigate these papers»
Blushing, you would answer — «Luis, you really need to tone down the romantic analogies»
— «But they're so much fun!» he objected with a smirk — «Life needs a bit of whimsy, even in the lab»
Days turned into weeks, playful banter turned into a comfortable routine, flirtatious exchanges like inside jokes only the two of you shared, creating an unspoken bond that transcended the sterile lab walls.
And in the midst of these playful interactions, a spark grew between you and Luis, his flirtatious comments created delicious tension, but behind it all, you felt a real connection, it was this mixture of chemistry and sincerity that made working with Luis an experience you wouldn't trade for anything else.
᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
As the days turned into weeks, you caught yourself thinking about him more often than not.
His smile lingered in your memory, and his voice turned into a comforting melody on repeat, every interaction with him left an indelible warmth in you, as if his presence could drive away the chill of uncertainty.
You started noticing the little things — the way his eyes squinted when he laughed, the subtle changes in his expression when he was deep in thought, the way his fingers traced patterns on the lab bench as he explained a complex concept, it was in those ordinary moments that you began to see what an extraordinary person he was.
Your heart pounding every time he entered the room and the air seemed to crackle with unspoken electricity, you looked forward to his teasing remarks and flirtatious glances, cherishing each of them as a unique gift meant just for you, the feeling of being next to him was akin to on the brink of a precipice, the awe of the unknown mixed with deep seated certainty.
But it wasn't until you caught yourself thinking about him outside the lab that you realized the depth of your feelings.
His presence entered your thoughts, occupying a space you didn't even know existed, the realization hitting you like a gentle wave washing over you with a sense of wonder and vulnerability.
As you lay in bed at night your mind replayed the moments spent with him, the laughter, the camaraderie, the stolen glances that seemed like secrets exchanged in a crowded room, and in those quiet moments of reflection you admitted the truth — you fell in love with Luis Serra.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions, an exhilarating rush that left you holding your breath and worrying about what each new day would bring, realization brought with it a mixture of joy and awe, the excitement of a new beginning combined with uncertainty about where this whirlwind of feelings would lead.
Falling in love with Luis was also a journey of self discovery, a journey that illuminated parts of you that you didn't fully understand, as if his presence shed light on the corners of your heart, revealing emotions that were waiting to be acknowledged.
Falling in love with Luis Serra was like discovering a new world.
᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
The atmosphere in the lab changed slightly as you began to show Luis the same attention and affection he showered you with, in what had once been a carefree dance of jokes and playful glances, now lurked into something more tender and sincere.
As you plunged into the chemistry of your growing feelings, the air seemed to buzz with anticipation, your interactions marked by shared smiles that lingered a moment longer, touches that contained only a touch of lingering warmth, conversations once casual and light now had a deeper meaning carrying unspoken messages of connection.
But amidst this evolving dynamic, you began to notice subtle changes in Luis's demeanor, his playful teasing, once a constant presence — became sporadic, the mischievous gleam in his eyes flickering at times to a wary expression, his responses becoming a bit distant, making you feel like you were swimming adrift in a sea of confusion.
The atmosphere took on a bittersweet note, like a melody that started off joyfully but gradually turned into a more melancholy tone.
The lab that had once been a place of shared laughter and camaraderie now felt tinged with tension, the quiet moments when you surreptitiously glanced at it accompanied by a sense of longing, as if something that once held in your hands had slipped from your fingers.
It was at this stage that you encountered a whirlwind of emotions.
Confusion mixed with resentment, and the fear of losing the connection you cherished gnawed at the edges of your thoughts, the camaraderie you shared still existed, but it was shrouded in a cloud of uncertainty.
᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌  ᠌ ᠌ ᠌᠌ ᠌ ᠌ ᠌༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
One day, the two of you found yourself alone in the corner of the laboratory — a rare moment of solitude amid the usual scientific bustle, when the door closed behind you, the atmosphere seemed to hold its breath, a palpable sense of anticipation filled the air.
Taking a deep breath, you turned to face him, your heart pounding with nervousness and determination — «Luis, we need to talk» you began in a flat voice, despite the raging emotions inside.
He looked up from the table, surprise and curiosity mixed in his eyes — «Sure, what's on your mind?»
You took a moment to collect your thoughts before continuing — «I've noticed something changing between us, and i can't ignore it anymore, it feels like you've been pulling away, and i don't understand why»
Luis's expression changed, a mixture of indecision and vulnerability — «It's not that simple..» he replied, his voice heavy, which spoke of the complexity of his emotions.
You made eye contact with him, silently inviting him to share what was really going on, and then, as if the floodgates opened, his words poured out — «I'm scared, scared of getting too close, of letting myself fall for someone» his voice trembled bearing the coarseness of his confession.
The atmosphere seemed to change, the air heavy with the weight of his emotions, you stepped closer, your heart clenched at the vulnerability he was showing — «Luis, you don't have to be afraid..» you said softly, and your voice carried a real calm.
But then, suddenly, his composure collapsed, tears welled up in his eyes, and you could see the turmoil inside him.
When he wiped away a tear with the back of his hand, your heart sank in sympathy — «Oh, Luis..» you muttered in a soft voice of sympathy.
He looked at you, his gaze was filled with a mixture of emotions — fear, longing and a hint of despair, and at that moment the distance that had grown between you seemed to disappear, replaced by unspoken understanding.
Without thinking twice, you reached out, your fingers touching his cheek as you wiped away his tears, the vulnerability in his gaze touched your heartstrings, and you leaned in to kiss his forehead gently, it was a gesture of comfort, a silent confirmation that you were there for him.
He closed his eyes briefly, his breath hitching as he allowed himself to let go of the emotions he was holding back, and then, as if in response to the shared vulnerability that hung between you, you leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
At that moment, the atmosphere changed again, but this time it was a shift towards acceptance and connection, the kiss was a bridge between your feelings, a common moment carrying a load of understanding and compassion, the tears he shed seemed to wash away the barriers that separated you.
When you pulled away, his eyes met yours, in their depths mixed surprise at your actions and sincere, childish gratitude — «Thank you» he whispered in a voice soft with excitement.
You smiled gently, your heart was filled with a sense of awareness and complete acceptance of his experiences, his detachment — «You don't have to face this alone, Luis, we'll figure it out together, trust me»
As you stood in the dimly lit lab, the atmosphere seemed to contain a newfound sense of intimacy, a space where vulnerability and connection converged, and in which the tears he shed were evidence of revealed emotions, the kiss was the promise of a journey ahead — a new path of understanding, acceptance and the possibility of a love that can overcome even the deepest feelings of fear slowly withering deep inside him.
He has the right to love like everyone else.

If one decides to start a creative project about their favorite thing, be it fanart, fanfic, fangame etc. , which approach do you prefer, the creatives involved fully dedicating themselves to recreating and recapturing what made the original works...work, or make an active choice to be derivative (this doesn't mean artists are ignorant about the original material, not necessarily) How do you feel about either, and are there any other approach you can think of?
There's this guy who used to post at SFGHQ named Sam Beddoes who now runs Freakzone Games. He's made the official Manos: The Hands of Fate game, he did both AVGN Adventures, he's the project lead on that Toxic Crusaders beat'em'up, etc.
But he's an old guard Sonic head and I've heard him turn up on a couple of Sonic podcasts, specifically to talk fangames, and by his account he got really fed up with the Sonic fangaming scene when everybody became obsessed with perfectly replicating the Genesis games, because to him, all the creativity and magic went away.
I remember hearing that and both agreeing and disagreeing with him. And I have enough thoughts about it that I've actually considered doing a video about it, and about fangaming overall.
I think there is a stigma to replicating something perfectly that's very adjacent to people who are concerned about young artists who start out by tracing pictures other people have drawn. Plagiarism is a real, legitimate problem. But it's only a problem if you lie about tracing.
I'm of the mind that if you're starting out drawing, half the problem is just learning control. Tracing can be a valuable tool in helping you to understand hand motions and give you a perspective on the construction of an image. For the earliest beginners, I don't think there's any shame in starting out by tracing. It's building muscle memory. Just don't say you drew it.
Similarly, my game development skills went way, way, way up about the time I started to analyze and perfectly replicate existing games. Like, the long canceled Sonic Forever project used an early enough version of the Sonic Worlds codebase that I had to read the Sonic Retro Physics Guide and use their data on how to add Knuckles in from scratch. My code matched how he worked in the Genesis games almost 1:1, because it was largely me just interpreting the values into something Clickteam Fusion could understand.
Something similar happened when, in 2012, I started (and never finished) a remake of my famous Mario Blue Twilight DX fangame. That's when I started really paying attention to how the source games worked so I could get a better sense of how a Mario game needed to "feel" in order to be correct.
And that trend continued with every fangame project I worked on following that, like when I figured I could make my own version of Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone, since I wasn't happy with the Retro Engine version. The idea was to be accurate above all else. In some cases, I'd even watch recordings of official gameplay in slow motion just so I could see exactly how the game was created, and in some cases, count frame by frame the duration of certain actions.
And all of this just makes me think of when I showed a friend my game jam game, OverBite. He complimented me on how nice the controls felt, in that kind of backhanded way where he said "When did you learn to make games feel so nice?"
Because if you go back to those really early games of mine, they all feel like garbage to control. And I attribute it to putting in a lot of time pulling apart the nuts and bolts of real retro games and putting a microscope up to why they work the way they do. Deconstructing all of their little nuances and sub-states and then trying to put it all back together again in a different programming language.
You learn a lot when you're forced to stop and understand why a piece of code exists in the way it does. Why there are all these little edge cases that you never notice but still exist to make a game feel just a little better.
At the end of the day, yes, Sam was right. Games need to have creativity and seeking out the perfect replication of the Sega Genesis Sonic games can feel somewhat futile. Every SAGE for the last ten years, there will be at least three games that instantly vanish from my memory because they are basic, plain Sonic Worlds Delta fangames with no style of their own. They just want to make Sonic 4 and we've had a lot of different Sonic 4s by now.
But the thing about learning is, you gotta learn the rules before you learn why and where to break them, because breaking (or at least bending) all of those boring, standardized rules is where your personal style starts to emerge, and that personal style is ultimately what people are going to be interested in at the end of the day.
So I think it is vitally important to start at 1:1 exact recreation and once you've made a comfortable replica, only then should you start asking yourself what you'd change and why. Make sure you understand the material before venturing further. You gotta learn to do it right first.

Fic Authors Self Rec tag
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five of your other fave writers. Spread the self-love! 💕💕💕💕❤️
Thank you @quinloki for tagging me <3 <3 I would say my top 5 are:
Under the Microscope (Yan Sabo x Reader) - it's a WIP but I'm writing the next chapter now. I think the setup is pretty good, if I do say so myself. My first dive into Sabo but certainly not the last.
Struck Twice by Lightning (Shanks x reader, second chance romance) Being annoying comes naturally to both Shanks and myself so the dialogue came easily. Shanks at his worst / best, trying to win Reader back. Also explains why he wears ugly pants.
Can't Fix Fix A Broken Heart (Thatch x Marco x Ace x Reader, Dark, Non Con) the fic that started it all <3. The first work I ever wrote and even though I think I've improved since then, it's still fun.
hOrnithology for Beginners (Marco x Reader) Everyone loves Marco, right? No, but everyone loves the Pheonix. It's not dark and it's not that long but I liked how the Reader turned out. Suspend your disbelief - some people don't keep track of every gd pirate on the Grand Line.
Not My Monkey (Strawhats, Reader x Jinbei, reverse trope) Instead of one isekai reader messing everything up, the Strawhats get their 23rd isekai'd reader who has no idea what's going on in the world. It's not self insert but I would absolutely also blackmail Sanji into letting me do the dishes :) This one sparks a lot of joy for me and I'm writing the next chapter slowly - this one I really write for myself <3
No pressure tags to: @sordidmusings @lockes-woods @nocturnalrorobin @moldychefboyardeecan and @thirstydiglett
Show me your faves! (if you want to)...

Pain hunter
an impeccable exile, meticulously connected.
A mind devoid of thought.
1 main source vibration in sound and in relation
cross-fertilization
cross-pollination.
Linking to keep close, in the belly of love if you will
An impenetrable core
The end is the source, the result is somewhat irrelevant,
excellent solitude being the ground for peace.
Close to ritual, close to internal signals of harmony, peace or on
the contrary, accepting of chaos, of want. Infiltrate pain.
Core not hardcore. Preparing for a changeless battle, winter
before spring
And so on.
Retreat. Redefine. Mutate. To create what.
When its hard that's when it gets good
To microscopically observe one's own nature so that it may not
attach to illusion and other imaginary objects or other, stronger
cores.
Calling for beginners mind, learn to listen and avoid speaking confusion
into existence.
Observing without desire, without pity. Impartial. Indifferent.
Translucent, as is water. Perfectly imperturbable not unlike the wind.
Kissing
everything, touching everything, occasionally strong,
sensual and menacing, yet invisible.

Lilian | OC smash or pass
Rules: pretty self explanatory. include physical descriptions or pics, and propaganda. the “other” label can be used for “sexuality misalignment” (ie: oc is femme and you’re gay, vice versa or you aren’t into smashing but a specific thing you wanna do with them like perhaps hug or study them under a microscope idc).
I wasn't tagged by anybody, my blog is still small and I'm a beginner artist
I'll surely tag @sith-shenanigans and and @butchism-radium (no pressure!) I've seen you a couple of times you seems nice 👉👈
This is also the first time I talk about this particular OC, nice way to introduce her (tw: moral OCD things, HUGE faith crisis, radical politics and police violence mentioned)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: Lilian Age: 25 Gender: cis (she/her) Sexuality: wlw (never had a chance to explore that, but surely loves women)
❣️ Propaganda for:
Lived in Sigil city for as long as she can remember. Chased so many criminals around it's narrow streets. Surely can show you around and you'll never get lost
Just a little lawful-netural DnD character. Nice alignment. What could possibly go wrong
Extremely supportive. She's a heart of the mercykillers faction, after all. She lifts the faction spirit just like a cheerleader, guides youngsters in their life journey, motivates you like your personal coach. The biggest hypewoman you can imagine. Yours.
So optimistic! Her faith in her ideology is so strong. Certainly primacy of justice is achievable, and multiverse's perfection is coming
So passionate and emotional, even if she's told to suppress everything, that isn't rational or helpful in a practical way
🫖 Not a propaganda, some neutral beige flags:
She's a big deal around mercykillers faction. It means: extremely justice-orientied elite detective-cop, head full of propaganda, loyal to a fault (I prommie a good redemption arc 🥺)
Has a secret tea/coffee mugs collection, even if any "surplus" considered bad among ascetic mercykillers. Her collection is way bigger than one person needs. I guess her mentor and father figure won't break it as a lesson
Before a portal brought her to Sigil, lived in a renaissance era Italy. She dreamed about an utopia, and now she finally has a chance to make one. Also Victorian steampunk-ish technology still fascinates her
Lives with undiagnosed moral OCD. Mental disorders are morally neutral, but her compulsions and intrusive thoughts are going to affect her
May or may not fall in love with a criminal that she needs to find and punish
💢 Propaganda against:
So oblivious, so little self-awareness when it comes to her emotions. Love is a sensitive topic for any mercykiller, because it can interfere with the investigation, it's the reason for so many conflicts, tragedies, even wars. She doesn't want to catch this feelings, as if it's some sort of disorder
Not "gullible" or "naïve", but there's a 100% possibility that she's vulnerable to propaganda and going to be radicalized
Justiciar's initiation ritual is going to corrupt her badly. In a creepy way
Perhaps going to crumble because of her faith crisis. There's a long, painful and shameful redemption arc prepared for her. She's going to weep because of all the violence and harm she caused. Is the happy ending even possible?

Hi there Sherlock, what is the brand and model of your microscope? Are you happy with it? I'm thinking about getting one, just for fun, like looking at leaves, roots, etc.
Hello.
The answer I provide will largely depend on the budget you are willing to spend. For your needs, a beginner microscope priced at a few hundred pounds should suffice.
The microscope I utilise is valued in the several-thousand-pound range and is stored safely in 221C, out of Watson's reach.
I would recommend visiting a specialised store that offers microscopes to find one (+ all accessories) that suit your needs.
