Review for Hurts 2B Human

The album as a whole is undoubtedly one of her best. It’s got the authenticity, "I wear my heart on my sleeve" of Missundaztood, but also 20 years of experience and development. This is an album where I'm MAYBE skipping one or two songs, and it would be pretty painless, even enjoyable to not skip any. That's actually a first for me and Pink albums, and there's only a handful of other albums that fit that category for me as well.

I also like the overall theme and feel of the album. Yeah, some would called it disjointed, but honestly all of Pink's albums are like that. She dabbles in all sorts of genres and I personally prefer that eclecticism. I like that the album is overall pretty optimistic too. It does hurt to be human. Life sucks sometimes, but there's always something worth all the trouble and pain. I think that's a good message, and certainly not new for Pink, but I think it did a hell better job of conveying that than BT did or any other time she's tried to make that point. The album has a great feel to it, and that's hard to explain, but it matters a lot.

The songs they released early are some of the weaker songs IMO. I don't think Pink is picking the singles. I 'm guessing she loves all the songs that make it on the album, and just lets RCA pick what to release. RCA seems to be picking what they think is closest to the more classic Pink pop song, instead of the actual best songs of the album. It’s been a problem since True Love on TTAL, but I hope they release at least ONE of the songs I gave 10/10 as a single.

Track by Track review below: Avg = 8.9 /10

Hustle - 8/10 - This is just a fun song. It's a classic Pink "Fuck you" type of song. The base line is dope, as is Dan's whoop whoop. I love the melody and her voice in the chorus with the "I live my life like a bullet in a gun" part. I like that it has more upbeat feel than most "fuck you" songs.

(Hey Why) I Miss You Sometimes - 10/10 - I did not expect something like this but I fucking love it. It definitely shows how Pink continues to be able to evolve and adapt musically. I love how it goes from really auto tuned and produced in some parts, to acoustic in the chorus, and somehow it fucking works. It's funny too. "Waking up in Florida kind of love, McDonalds kind of love"

Walk Me Home - 8/10 - Honestly is forgettable compared to the rest of the album. I still enjoy it. It's a good song, but the rest of the album is just better.

My Attic - 7/10 - Of all the songs on the album, this is the one I'm most likely to skip. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't think I relate to its lyrics and the melody/singing doesn't have anything spectacular.

90 Days - 10/10 - HOLY CRAP. I knew I would love it when I watched Wrabel's solo version on youtube, but this is everything I imagined it to be and more. Their voices go together so well. I love the references to Tracy Chapman's Fast Car, and Imogen Heap's Mmm Whatcha Say, because they are both timeless songs with the same sort of theme of a relationship being dead. I think the connections elevate the song in the same way books do when they reference each other. It's like winking at the audience. As much as I love the production, I hope to god we get to see a live version of this song.

Hurts 2B Human - 9/10 - The best of the songs they released before the album IMO. It’s so chill and relaxed. Khalid is incredible. It's very relatable. The lyric "Oh god it hurts to be human" is so real and you can feel the power and meaning behind it. My only criticism is the "me me me you you you" part is too repetitive for my taste.

Can We Pretend - 8/10 - Similar to Walk Me Home in that it doesn't stand out from the rest of the album. It is fun though. I could see myself singing and dancing to it at the end of a bad day.

Courage - 9/10 - I actually really like this one. I noticed in some of the other reviews people dismissed it as too repetitive and sounding too much like Sia. And yeah, it has the sound of a Sia song, but that’s not a bad thing. I personally like that. Lyrically and thematically it’s awesome too. The chorus just sours, "Have I the courage to change?" and I can't not like it. The song also shows the introspective side of Pink that I love. Layering different vocals is one of my favorite musical things, and this song features that when she sings the "I'm walking uphill" part over the "Have I the courage to change?" part.

Happy 10/10 - Did I just mention how I love the introspective side of Pink? Yeah, cause I fucking do, like most of us here. It's so authentic, honest, all the reasons we love her. The melody is sweet, her voice is soothing. I love the chorus with the call and response thing to it. It's like dialogue between her and herself, all those inner thoughts running around in our heads. Just fantastic, really.

We Could Have It All - 9/10 - idk I just really enjoyed this song. I don’t really know how to describe the background music at the beginning and in the verses, but it’s good. The chorus soars, but the backing vocals bring it back to the verses in a smooth way. Just really pleasant to listen to.

Love Me Anyways - 9/10 - It's just a beautiful love song. Pink sound great. Chris sounds great. The song sounds great. It's generating a lot of buzz too, so I wouldn't be surprised if ends up a single. The little parts where they harmonize are incredible.

Circle Game - 9/10 - The beginning is a bit slow for my taste, but boy do I love the chorus. It's some of my favorite vocals on the album, and has been getting stuck in my head. I like the theme of it too. Once the song gets going, its pulls you in.

The Last Song of Your Life - 10/10 - Leave it to Billy Mann to pull this gem out of Pink. I actually think this is written from the perspective of Billy. It's him talking to her. It's kind of funny that they ended up with a song about trying to write a song. It fells very authentic and honest though, what the song is asking for, so I guess whatever process they have, it fucking works. The song itself is so beautiful. She sings quite high in this, it’s impressive. The vocals have a kind of distant, far off sound. It's very relaxing.

She had H2BH at top charts for no reason at all besides IG brainwashing! Let's face it: that album is not so good... still, she managed to have her little silver cute frame to hang on her chimney.
