perhaps every bird that's found themself in a cage will, at one point, try to escape ; to spread their wings beyond the confines of its newest safety. one may argue that the bird was put there, that it should be let out, but what of its injured wing? how will it learn to trust, to heal, if not in that cage? and would the creature begin to love such a place, if it stayed there long enough? hands move to drape a necklace of diamond around the bird's neck, hannibal delicately moving clarice's hair to one side as he clasped the newest piece of jewelry. fingers brush against her skin, so briefly that it could have been by mistake, though they both knew it was not. hair is placed back between her shoulders, hannibal grabbing clarice's arm and turning her gently toward him, so that he might see the necklace laying just above her collarbones. 'you are quiet tonight,' doctor lecter notices, running eyes along her features before he begins fixing his cufflinks. 'i've grown rather used to your unabating need to speak your mind - it would be a shame to be deprived of it now,' @roseguided.

the fbi was going through the craziest shit in the 90s like what the hell do you mean they needed to use an insanely dangerous cannibal for information to catch a serial killer who is murdering innocent families for his becoming of a god that is possessed by a dragon, then having to use him AGAIN to catch another serial killer who is murdering girls (including a senator’s daughter) to wear their skin as a suit while some other girl died under mysterious circumstances while other people are getting abducted by aliens and being terrorized by the paranormal while ALSO across the country, there’s a satanist who is possessing dolls and using a former nurse to kill more families???

others would shame her for keeping such dangerous company. in her line of work, there should be no such empathy for a killer, a criminal like hannibal lecter. but that is what he loved so much about her - clarice could look past the bad things hannibal has done and truly see the man beneath. not many have gotten to see him, the real him ; he hasn't given many the chance. but clarice has earned it. all of those visitations with glass walls between them, the conversations she graciously bestowed upon him. her mind was delicious, and hannibal had been lucky enough to get inside of it. the doctor didn't intend to take that for granted.

' it's is a stunning sight, ' hannibal recites, but he is not referring to the room they now both stand in. even in such a place as italy - known for its culture and beauty - clarice starling stood out as a monument ; a glittering treasure. knowing that she was just as happy to see him made hannibal grin, teeth and all, as he moved to the bottle of champagne he had ordered upon his arrival. ' you flatter me. i've always felt i belonged in europe. my heart urged me to come back here. i suppose i should be lucky i finally got the opportunity, ' it's a light quip, the doctor giving the agent a knowing smile over his shoulder before he pops the cork of the bottle. bubbles explode into the glass as he pours, only turning back to clarice when he can offer her the flute of champagne. ' i thought a toast would be in order, ' eyes land on hers, softer than someone like him should look. ' to freedom. and... to us, ' glass touches her own with a small tink.
