"Ah yes, well." He turned to Tetsch, ears flattening with a nervous squeaking-laugh. "I don't believe he wants much to do with me, as of right now." Once more Doorrat rubbed his face, this time specifically the bridge of him snout. "I made a stupid mistake, but, I'd be glad to stay if he'll let me."
"I'm the same," Doorrat hesitated, as if trying to decide how much he wanted to tell Alice, "reading was my sort of escape as a child, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has always been a favorite." He turned back to her, eyes lighting up. "I'm sure if we tried, Jervis and I could recite it from memory together."
Doorrat seemed to want to say something about the 'story-book themed' part, but he kept his mouth shut. Really wouldn't do much good telling her the truth, he decided. In a bad way, Cates was right to be suspicious about Jervis, even if it wasn't fair. Doorrat of all people understood the building blocks for being a villain, they tended to be the only people that tolerated him after all.

The Hatter's eyes fell onto the mouse beside him, face a forlorn expression as he tried to gather himself, his surroundings, but the truth be told it was all very overwhelming and a large part of himself was missing.
He brushed it aside, perhaps under the carpet, he should check once he went back to his apartment. Did he have a carpet? He was certain he at least had upholstery. A rug perhaps too?
Jervis simply took a sip of his tea and held the cup close to his chest, the worn fabric of his bow tie sinking into the beverage. "Oh, no, let's not bore poor Alice to death," he dismissed with a chuckle, nails digging into the china with a harsh yet subtle scrape.
"Ah, that does not mean you should fret dear doorrat, I may hold grudges but I am aware that our little dispute is just that. A small issue in the grand scheme of things. Really, it wasn't you who turned to a life of villainy."
It was then that Jervis offered his typical wide smile, lips curling at the edges with all his teeth bared in a maddening grin. Very... Tetch-ish. "It just goes to show I have the moral high ground to some degree and I think that's an achievement in of itself!"

CLAN CARRUTHERS CCIS - THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE KNIGHT TEMPLARS
CLAN CARRUTHERS CCIS – THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE KNIGHT TEMPLARS
THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE KNIGHT TEMPLARS
A curious fusion of pious monk and ruthless warrior, The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon were a Christian military order founded in Jerusalem in 1119. Their original raison d’être was to offer protection to Christian pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land, but these medieval vicars-turned-elite-fighting-forces grew to become one…

"[Raymond III of Tripoli] never recovered from the day of Hattin. His life dragged on for a few more months in which he was literally consumed by remorse and regret and too discouraged even to join in some movement toward armed resistance. This time the bridges between him and what still remained or the kingdom were well and truly down. He survived the fall of all the Frankish cities in the kingdom and the fall of Jerusalem, and it is not difficult to imagine the nature of the 'fearful dreams' which al-Imad says troubled him. He succumbed to an attack of pleurisy at the end of 1187, at the age of forty-eight. Raymond had never had any children. He was succeeded by the second son of Prince Bohemond III of Antioch, young Bohemond [...].
With the death of Raymond III the direct line of Raymond of Saint-Gilles died out in the East. This unhappy prince who, in the almost unanimous opinion or Franks and Moslems alike, had been the obvious master of all Frankish Syria, a man 'intelligent and perceptive above all', 'worthy of the throne for which he seemed to have been born', ended his life disgraced and dishonored by the accusation of treachery, disappointed in his hopes - which were undoubtedly sincere - of possible Franco-Moslem friendship, utterly defeated in everything for which he had striven."

very interesting how the ending of kingdom of heaven / battle of hattin / surrender of jerusalem is perceived by the fandom by my perspective as a muslim.
the surrender of jerusalem is perceived as a tragedy because christians lost strength in what they believe to be their holy land. meanwhile i and most other muslims see saladin capturing jerusalem as liberation — especially because saladin unlike the crusaders took the city peacefully afterwards and the palestinian christians were allowed to stay and freely worship.
i think kingdom of heaven does decently in portraying the emotion that is felt (not all historically accurate and western bias) but there is the bitter sweetness that saladin brings peace to the city while the christian crusaders are given passage out.
