Hawthorne House Readings
Hello Alchemical Souls! Welcome to Hawthorne House. My name is Vivienne, and if you've been here before you know that I disappeared for a few months. I'm here to briefly explain why. I'll probably go into more detail later once things are settled but essentially it is this. The last few months there were struggles with home life and it all came to a head this last week, which resulted in me finally breaking free of and ending a twelve year long toxic and abusive relationship. I am now in the process of moving and saving up funds to do that. I'm leaving officially on the 16th of this month, taking what I can but leaving most of it behind. Which brings me to the reason for this post. Money is still really tight. I have enough to pay two months worth of rent and buy some food but not enough to make me feel safe and secure going out into the world after basically being a shut-in for the last decade (more on that later). So! To earn a little extra money and find a sense of stability in all this chaos I'm going to be offering paid readings here at Hawthorne House. I will get to as many as I can as time goes and I will list what can be requested below. If you are interested in one of my tarot/oracle/channeled readings, please feel free to dm me here or on Instagram @vivihawthorne. Please note that I will NEVER message you first in regards to a paid reading so if someone comes along pretending to be me ignore them and don't give them any money. Thank you so much for taking the time to have a look at my post. And without further adieu. Hawthorne House Readings All readings (except those listed otherwise) will be recorded and sent to you via video. Once your reading has been accepted I will provide a method for payment (this will be Chime or paypal). Payment will be required in advance before your reading is done. I use a combination of Tarot and Oracle cards depending on what I am drawn to during the reading and each tarot reading will receive one oracle card at the end as an overall advice or final message. Disclaimer: The Readings at Hawthorne House are not meant to dictate your life or your actions and should not be taken as the end all be all knowledge for your situation. You know what is happening in your life better than anyone, my readings are only meant to provide you with as much clarification as possible so that you can choose the best coarse of action. Also it is important to understand that life, fate, destiny, existence, however you want to refer to it as, is in a constant state of flux. Having greater clarity or a different perspective on a situation can cause the timeline of events to accelerate or change depending on how you put this information to use (I'm saying this from personal experience) so please keep that in mind. $5 Quick Card Pull – This is a one card pull plus clarifiers in which you can ask any question of your choosing. (These are very simple readings for simple questions.) This reading can be done via video upon request.
$10 General Reading – This will be a three card pull plus clarifiers. If you do not have a specific question we will look at your general energies and see what information the Universe (and/or your spirits and guides) wish to provide you.
$15 The Scales – In this reading we'll take a look at the two sides of your situation, question, or concern. What it is bringing into your life that is positive and what it might be bringing into your life that is not so positive, as well as any advice for you on the matter. $20 A Week Ahead – In this reading we look at the energies of the upcoming week. Your energies, the energies surrounding you, and how they will shift. We will pull a card for each day and then clarify and break down each of those cards to give you as much detail as possible. (Please note this reading is still fairly new.)
$27 Doors to Destiny – This is a seven card pull as well but rather than your week ahead this looks at your soul's journey and where you are within it overall or just in this life (situation varies person to person on what is picked up) where you are going, and what information would be most useful to you at this time.
$30 A Month Ahead – This reading will let us take a look at your upcoming month. We will pull five cards for the five upcoming weeks and then break each of those cards down with clarifiers weeks one through five. We will see how the month is unfolding and how you and the energies around you are shifting/changing through that month. What to expect, what to look out for, and any helpful advice to see you through it.
$35 Web Reading – This is a thirteen card spread in which we take a look at the energies surrounding you in four distinct categories. What grounds you, what inspires you, what frightens and/or obstructs you, and what heals and/or guides you forward. We'll see which of these energies are hidden from you and which ones you are likely aware of. We will also look at what ties you to that energy and any additional information that comes.
$45 Soul Reading – A soul reading is a bit more mystical. It involves trance and reading your energies, the essence of you, as you are seen by the Universe. In this reading I will deep dive into who you are as a person, both what I see, what is channeled naturally, and with the assistance of cards. These readings can be anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour long and require you to be as open as you are willing to be, keep in mind the more open you are the easier it is for me to read you. If you have a specific inquiry  you can ask before we begin the reading and that will be where I focus when we begin. But I should warn you that these readings tend to have a mind of their own and I will get whatever they (the energies, your soul, your guides, the universe, the gods, whichever you want to take it as) decide. So while you will get information on the question you asked it is likely that there are other more pressing things that will need to be conveyed (this is just from past experience in doing these readings).
$50 Soul Bond – In this reading we will look at you and your person. You can call this a love reading but it doesn't have to be. This could be a reading about your connection between you and a lover, or you and a friend, or you and a parent. Just about anyone. We will look at their energies, your energies, the energies building between you, what that could mean for your relationship, and how to strengthen or release those energetic ties and any other information. As well as any additional information and/or advice on this connection.

It's Time for Samhain! (Oct 31- Nov 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is Samhain? In the Celtic calendar, Samhain marks the end of summer and the harvest season, and the beginning of the dark, cold winter months. It falls opposite Beltane on May 1, which represents the beginning of spring and the life-filled growing season.
It’s believed that the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest on Samhain. Historically, people were worried that they would encounter ornery spirits if they ventured outside on Samhain night, so they dressed as ghosts or wore masks to disguise themselves. Folks would leave treats on their front porch or place an extra setting at the table to welcome any friendly spirits who stopped by. You can see how these Samhain rituals easily morphed into our modern-day version of trick-or-treating in costume.
Nighttime bonfires were another of the long-standing Samhain rituals - this one was thought to help combat the impending darkness of winter and the fearful chill that accompanied the idea of roaming spirits. Because the veil between living and dead is believed to be the thinnest on this night, Samhain is also a powerful night for divination and spellcasting by candlelight.
Usual Symbols of Samhain:
Ale or Mead
Pumpkins
Skulls
Besom or Broom
Beans
Cauldron
Bats
Keys
Squash
Pomegranate
Nuts
Apples and Cider
Bones
Herbs and Plants for Samhain:
Rosemary – Associated with remembrance and is needed during this season in taking time to honor the memories of our ancestors and other lost loved ones. Can be used in an incense blend and at ancestor altar
Fall Flowers – Includes flowers like marigolds and chrysanthemums. Are associated with protection and chrysanthemums come in handy with connecting to the spirit world
Apples (the fruit, branches and blossoms) – Is considered sacred to a lot of gods. A good apple harvest means that the gods have shown the community their favor. You can use apples in different rituals, especially divination
Pomegranates – Is associated with the realm of the underworld and helps with communication with the dead. It is also associated with fertility of the fall.
Squashes, Pumpkins and Gourds – Is associated with abundance and provides sustenance for your family when the fields become bare and covered in snow. Is linked to psychic awareness and development and protection.
Mugwort – Is associated with divination and dreaming. Using Mugwort baths or incenses in the rituals can focus on treating depression, especially with the seasons changing
Rowan Trees – The branches and berries are a way to keep evil spirits out of your house and are associated with good health. If you plant a tree near a grave, it will prevent the dead from rising.
Sage – Is associated with cleansing and grounding. Is a great incense to cleanse your home to bring in the new and out with the old
Hawthorn – Has been associated with the gateway between humans and the spirit world. Is also rumored to an area where you can see fairies.
Crystals for Samhain:
Amethyst – Aids in opening one’s third eye and is valuable to be able to see Samhain’s spirits around
Black Obsidian – Is great for grounding and protect from evil spirits. Can be used in scrying when speaking to deities and spirits of Samhain
Citrine – Is used to honor the sun. Aids in prosperity spells and carries joy
Black Tourmaline – Wards off unwanted spirits from your property and can be buried into the ground to protect from psychic attacks and spirit intrusion
Orange Calcite – Orange is a sacred color to Samhain. This stone is associated with one’s sacral chakra and can cleanse and align reproductive organs, sexuality and get creativity flowing
Bloodstone – Known to heal cardiovascular illness and disease. Can help with ancestry links and work
Spirit Quartz – Is great in helping communicate with the spirits of Samhain and releasing old and toxic habits
Lepidolite – Used to appease the fairies that roam during Samhain
Serpentine – Is associated with snakes and aids in remembering past lives. Loki seems to like this stone and may be great to use for him if you work with him during this season
Dragonstone – Dragons are guardians of the earth, spirits of place, and connect us to Mother Nature. Helps say goodbye to the old years and our old selves
Skull shaped Stones – Since skulls are symbols of Samhain, skull shaped stone can help with symbolism during this holiday. They represent the life-death-rebirth cycle, wisdom and our ancestors
Spells and Rituals:
A Samhain Tea (Apple and Hawthorn Berry)
1 apple, sliced
2 Tablespoon dried hawthorn berries (or 4 Tablespoons fresh)
1 cinnamon stick
A pinch of cloves
4 cups water
Honey, to taste (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a small stockpot.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes.
Strain the plant material from the tea, then transfer the tea into two mugs.
Enjoy one for yourself, and leave the other on your table or front porch to nourish any wandering spirits who may pass while the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest.
A Pumpkin Spell for Prosperity
A pumpkin
Some paint
Go to the pumpkin patch (or local store) and select a pumpkin. Or let the pumpkin choose you.
Bring it home and paint prosperity symbols on it – money signs, runes for prosperity or harvest glyphs (whatever means prosperity to you).
Then place by your front door to invite prosperous vibes into your home this Samhain season.
Bonfire Release Purification Spell
Paper
Pen
Source of fire (bonfire, fireplace, candle flame)
Gather your materials and sit by the fire.
Take a few minutes to just listen to the fire crackling.
Gaze into the flames and connect with this powerful element.
Next begin to think about what habit or person you are releasing this Samhain. Think about why you’re purifying your life from this thing or person.
Then write the habit or person down on the piece of paper.
Fold it away from you 3 times.
Hold it in your hands and allow all of the negative thoughts and energies inside of you to “drain” out of you and into the paper.
Then throw it in the fire and say,
“After this Samhain, never again. Never again. I release _________ from my life by the power of the Samhain fire. So, mote it be.”
How to Make a Samhain Altar
Beautiful autumn leaves or flowers that you collect on a nature walk
A candle
A mugwort bundle
A string of rowan beads
A bowl of apples or a small pumpkin
A hawthorn wand or bowl of freshly picked hawthorn berries
A picture of your ancestors
To make an altar, first find a corner of your home or a table surface where you can arrange a few treasures. You don’t need a ton of space. You could use the top of a dresser, the corner of your desk, an unused side table, etc.
After you’ve assembled your altar, spend some time sitting quietly in the space. Light the candle and/or mugwort wand, sip on a cup of Apple & Hawthorn Berry Tea and meditate on this energetically powerful day.
I could find specific written instructions for a crystal grid but I found a video!
Crystal Grid for Samhain
Let's get ready for Samhain and have a great and safe time!

I should have a paper-mill established at one end of the house, and so have an endless riband of foolscap rolling in upon my desk; and upon that endless riband I should write a thousand—a million—billion thoughts, all under the form of a letter to you. The divine magnet is on you, and my magnet responds. Which is the biggest? A foolish question—they are One.
Herman Melville, from a letter to Nathaniel Hawthorne c. 17th November 1851

Beginner Overview of Fairy Witchcraft
This post is going to be about fairies and how it is they play into witchcraft. Please note, I do not work down this path but this information is derived from books that will be listed at the bottom. I highly recommend reading the books if you can, for Morgan Daimler goes into much more depth. I found these books on Hoopla through my local library to read.
Tumblr media
Fairies can be found just about anywhere in the world in all types of cultures. There is no limitation to how they appear and what they look like, for they come in all types of different shapes and forms. They are talented in glamor magic, where they can make a pile of leaves look like a pile of gold if they so wanted to. Interacting and dealing with fairies is never what it seems to be. Green is their associated color and they are often found in places such as lone hills, solitary trees (especially hawthorne trees), abandoned houses, in fairy rings, and in fairy roads.
Fairy witchcraft honors their ancestors and they believe in many Gods. Ancestors could be honored through replica skulls on the main altar or even a separate small altar dedicated just to ancestors where tokens and pictures are held. For deities, someone who is following this path would typically follow the deities more closely related to fairies such as the Tuatha de Danann, but other deities have been followed in this path as well. A different way is to follow the primal Gods: The Lady of the Greenwood, the Lord of the Wildwood, The Hunter, and the Queen of the Wind.
The Lady of the Greenwood and the Lord of the Wildwood rule from Beltaine to Samhain, the light half of the year, and during the full moon while the Hunter and the Queen of the Wind rule from Samhain to Beltaine, the dark half of the year and during the new moon.
The Lady of the Greenwood: Life, potential, growth, healing. Nurturing, inspiring, comforting, guiding.
The Lord of the Wildwood: Action, motion, adventure, exploration, physical skill, health.
The Hunter: Contemplation, strategy, planning. Wisdom, strength, and the dead.
The Queen of the Wind: Introspection, renewal, magic, divination. Enchantment, death, rebirth.
There are three realms (sky, sea, land) and five elements (fire, earth, air, water, and spirit) that the practitioners follow in this path.
The tools of the path:
Knife
Cauldron
Stone
Wand
Quaich (a bowl with two handles used for drinking)
Mortar and pestle
Broom
A key component to Fairy witchcraft is the belief of animism, that everything has a spirit within it. Each spirit is unique and can be found in animals, plants/herbs, and in man made objects. The spirits will just respond to the situation that they are given, there is no particular 'good' or 'bad' spirits.
In Scottish witchcraft, it is talked about that witches that were accused would have relationships with the fairies. This relationship would be making a pledge to the Queen of the Fairies, an oath that wasn't meant to be taken lightly. This pledge would be dying devotion to the Queen and giving up one's faith for Her. If one would take this oath, a fairy familiar would be gifted as the messenger between worlds. A witch would be taught by Her or the familiar, being expected (more like forced) to show to these gatherings of the Court where they would be taught.
When casting a circle, it is found that casting the circle counterclockwise is connected to fairies. Examples of this is seen in the Ballad of Childe Rowland where the main character's sister is taken by a fairy after walking the church three times counterclockwise. For the brother to go after her, he has to do the same thing. All positive things are done in a clockwise fashion while all things negative are done in a counterclockwise fashion.
Things TO DO:
Give a gift for a gift that they give you. Show proper gratitude for what you have received.
Have boundaries and LOTS of protection. They can and will hurt you. Being a witch does not exclude you.
Have respect. They are powerful beings that can do a lot of things to hurt you.
Give some effort. Learn about the fairy world, learn about the fairies themselves, learn everything that you can. Do not jump into this with information from a YA novel.
You can enhance your ability to see fairies be carrying a four leaf clover or a lapis lazuli crystal.
Things NOT to do:
Say thank you. It's unclear why you don't do this but it is believed to be rude since you would be implying that fairies are your servants or that you would be in their debt.
Do not worship the fairies. You can worship the deities that are associated with fairies but not them themselves. Yes we offer them things and yes we give them lots of respect but that's because it is owed to them as part of the harvest.
Keep broom, rowan wrapped in red thread, black handled knives (you can have one IF the blade is not made of iron), St. John's Wort, salt, and most importantly iron in your space and possession.
NEVER lie, make a promise you can't keep, or go back on your word.

Because I never miss a chance to gush about this whenever I teach Melville and Hawthorne, if any Whale Weekly besties haven’t read Melville’s letters to Nathaniel Hawthorne... you should.
“Your heart beat in my ribs and mine in yours, and both in God’s… It is a strange feeling — no hopefulness is in it, no despair. Content — that is it; and irresponsibility; but without licentious inclination. I speak now of my profoundest sense of being, not of an incidental feeling.
Whence come you, Hawthorne? By what right do you drink from my flagon of life? And when I put it to my lips — lo, they are yours and not mine. I feel that the Godhead is broken up like the bread at the Supper, and that we are the pieces.”
“P.S. I can't stop yet. If the world was entirely made up of Magians, I'll tell you what I should do. I should have a paper-mill established at one end of the house, and so have an endless riband of foolscap rolling in upon my desk; and upon that endless riband I should write a thousand -- a million -- billion thoughts, all under the form of a letter to you. The divine magnet is on you, and my magnet responds. Which is the biggest? A foolish question -- they are One.” [x]

Ultear Milkovich: Hogwarts AU
Tumblr media
Ultear Milkovich is a Pureblood witch that was born on the 18th of September 1971 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1983, being sorted into Slytherin house.
Due to being born with to much magic, she spent many hours at St. Mungos with her mother as a kid before she was kidnapped by the Death Eaters Brain and Hades who worked there with his mother being told that she had passed away from her condition.
She eventually managed to run away from the abusive men but when she caught sight of her mother with her foster brothers', she willingly returned since she thought that her mother had abandoned her.
In her sixth year at Hogwarts, she put Jellal Fernandes under the Imperius Curse and a year later she adopted the orphaned Pureblood witch Meredy just a few weeks after she graduated.
After graduating from Hogwarts, she started working in the Ministry of Magic while being a spy for the Death Eaters during the Second Wizarding War with her working in the Department of Mysteries.
She eventually found out the truth about her mother and while consumed with grief over what she had done, she tried to kill herself but she was saved by Meredy and Jellal.
She, Jellal and Meredy were then forced to go on the run from the Death Eaters after betraying them and was hidden away in one of the Order of the Phoenix's hide-outs.
She eventually participated in the Battle of Hogwarts which she survived but she faked her death during the battle due to a side-effect from all the years she worked in the Department of Mysteries.
She left a letter to her daughter before she disappeared with her last wish being that she wanted Meredy to move on from her.
Meredy did eventually move on but she never forgot her adopted mother and even named her daughter after her in the future.
Due to her many years of working in the Department of Mysteries, she started to grow old around the age of 25 which is the main reason why she faked her own death.
She has a Hawthorn wand with a Dragon Heartstring Core.
Her Patronus is a Phoenix.
Her favorite subjects are History of Magic and Divination.
Her least favorite subjects are Flying and Herbology.

Hawthorns!
Hawthorns (Crataegus oxyacantha) are native to the UK!
The name comes from Middle English haw (“hedge/enclosure”) and thorn! The botanical name Crataegus comes from the Greek “kratos”, meaning “hardness”, oxcux (“sharp”), and akantha (“thorn”)!
They have a meaning of hope! It comes from Greek mythology, where Hymenaios (god of the wedding ceremony) carried a hawthorn, which was thought to be sacred, in a flaming torch. Ancient Greek brides used the blossoms in their bouquets and hair on their wedding days, leading to hawthorn’s association with hope in love! The tree was also associated with Cardea, the Roman goddess of marriage/childbirth.
It's also seen as a protective tree, said to ward off negative energies/bad influences.
During springtime festivals in England, large Hawthorn boughs were cut in stood outside houses – they’re called “May Bushes” and were decorated with wildflowers (it’s all good to decorate the outside with hawthorn blossoms but DO NOT bring them inside, because that would bring illness and death). This tree was considered beloved by fairies who lived in them (in some folklore, hawthorn is said to be a gateway to the fairy realm/is a protective plant against evil spirits), so because of that it meant that cutting down a Hawthorn tree is bad luck!
They grow often in hedgerows, woodland and scrub! They grow in most soils, but flowers and fruits best in full sun. They can grow in exposed sites, and they’re deciduous (lose leaves in winter). Make sure to mulch the tree with bulky organic matter like bark, leaf mould, etc. and keep the area around the tree clear of weeds to stop them competing for water.
Hawthorn is known for its cardiovascular benefits, and you can use them in herbal remedies to help your heart/circulation! You can also put the blossoms/leaves in herbal teas for a calming affect!
Magickal uses involve planting it near homes or using them in talismans/charms/spells/amulets for the sake of protection! They can ward off evil spirits/bad energies/hexes. They also have use in love spells/rituals to attract/enhance love and they can be used in divination practices (like dream interpretation or nature scrying – I’ll make a guide to scrying soon!!)
You can pair them with camellias to indicate hope that a lost love will return, or orange blossoms to show hope that the recipient will return your affections!

ⵢ₊˚ MORE .
↳ Her niffler is named Toulouse, and her snowy owl's named Oko. She doesn't know whether to name the golden snitch following her, but she's hanging on 'Lux.'
↳ Minji is generally very sweet and friendly. She's quite the social butterfly. (Her personality is exactly just like MC in-game ^^;)
↳ Because of that ^, she's quite well-known. Not necessarily popular, but a lot of people know her.
— "The Ravenclaw with the red hair clip? I think I know her, yeah."
— "Yeah. She's my seatmate. I asked her for her notes during class in a panic because I forgot mine. She's nice. She even offered to tutor me."
↳ She gives flowers to her friends randomly. Er, let's hope she doesn't pick a poisonous one anytime soon.
↳ Pets every creature she sees, though mostly stray cats and dogs. Oh it has fleas, probably has rabies, and likely carries 23 infections? So cute. It's wagging its tail. Hehe.
↳ Minji acts confident for the sake of others feeling less anxious and scared, but deep down she is quite insecure, and tends to doubt her abilities. (given her insecurities as a muggle-born)
↳ Minji tends to burden herself when she makes mistakes. Feeling immense guilt when she does something wrong.
↳ Oddly enough, there's not a lot of things known about her background or family. Other than the fact that her father is a doctor and her mother is a business analyst of the company he works in. She either dodges questions skillfully or full on refuses to answer them completely.
↳ Her intelligence is completely off the charts. Though she doesn't show this very smart side of her as much as Kevin does, she's quite easily one of the most brightest kids.
↳ She knows an incredible lot about various things, and often gives full-detailed explanations/logical answers—say, music, or animals, etc. If you ask whether she's greatly interested in the topic, she'll say no and that she just happens to know a bit about it.
↳ Minji is too humble for her own good. She doesn't not thank people, but she often turns the credit around and targets it towards them.
↳ Minji is a night owl. She often sleeps too late because she's either studying or exploring the Forbidden Forest.
↳ Additional to that, she's not a morning person ☠️ She's not in a bad mood, but best believe she's half-asleep 80% of the time she's preparing in the morning. One time she literally kneeled down the common room of Ravenclaw to sleep on the floor if it weren't for Ivy and Lottie stopping her.
↳ Minji is very caring and is a good listener. She offers the best hugs if you ever feel sad, and she will cup your face and wipe your tears, and maybe even kiss your forehead if you let her!!
↳ Minji is actually very wise and tends to have a wiser approach on things. Her friends tease her and joke about her being 'an old soul.'
↳ Minji smells like vanilla. That's all lol

Hmm, author's choice on director's cut...I think I'll talk some more about Hanging On (You're All That's Left to Hold On To). So here are some random behind the scene's bits from my brain!
You can all credit the fabulous @mia6363 for opening my eyes to the potential and joy of utilizing Bobby Finstock as a character. Her stories that focus on him are amazing and were very inspiring.
When I set down to figure out how Bobby might know about the Supernatural and some of his backstory for this universe I landed on him having a bit of the Sight and that led to him being a Medium.
I'm pagan myself and will admit that a lot of my beliefs and studies did influence the worldbuilding of this fic a lot. As did my absolute love of Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea books, which gets heavily into the power of naming.
Shufflemancy (using music as a divination tool) is actually a thing that I've used when stuck on things in the past. Like most divination tools, I find that it's more helpful in understanding your present and working through thoughts than predicting the future. But it can be a fun way to try to sort out chaotic thoughts and figure out what nagging worry in your brain is going on about.
Other aspects of my own experiences and learning that got women into the fic were the scenes on moving meditation. While I've never been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD, I do have C-PTSD and there is a strong possibility that I have inattentive type ADHD and/or am somewhere on the ASD spectrum. Because of the way my brain is wired, I've always struggled with traditional meditation techniques. But noticed that the times when my brain would truly quiet in the way people talk about meditation were moments when I was focused on my body and movement. Dance, martial arts, walking, and hell, even coloring all help me get into that zone.
Additionally, hot chocolate mix in a cup of coffee is a great way to make shitty coffee palatable and create a very cheap mocha. And since I know most support groups are held in places where the coffee is mediocre at best, I wanted to throw in that bit of knowledge. It felt like something Bobby would know and be happy to share with Noah.
The other random fact was that I did not intend to write a stealth crossover with the Owl House when I started this fic. But I'd been watching it and loving it and realized that the character I was designing for Bobby's grandmother and mentor figure was a whole lot like Eda Clawthorne. And when I realized I needed some additional characters to help unfuck Beacon Hills, the idea to include Luz and Amity was just too much to resist. So in this universe, the Clawthorne family is the Hawthorne family and is a long line of witches and emissaries, and Luz and Amity met at summer camp/school rather than through a dimensional portal incident.

Literary Canon (from kissgrammar)
The Holy Bible, Authorized King James Version [At a minimum, the books of Genesis, Exodus, Job, Psalms, from the Old Testament; Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Apocalypse from the New.] Whether or not you are Christian is irrelevant. The civilization in which we live is based on and permeated by the ideas and values expressed in this book. Understanding our civilization, the world in which we live, is probably impossible without having read -- and thought about -- at least the most famous books in the Bible. Historically, the King James Version is considered the most artistic, and thus has probably had the most literary influence.
