Choosing the Best Hot Water Service: A Comprehensive Guide
Selecting the right hot water service for your home is crucial for both comfort and efficiency. With various options available on the market today, making the best choice can seem daunting.
This guide aims to simplify the decision-making process by outlining key considerations and features to look for when choosing a hot water service Gold Coast.
Types of Hot Water Systems
Hot water systems come in several types, each with its own advantages and suitability depending on your home's needs:
Electric Storage Systems:
Electric hot water systems store heated water in an insulated tank, ready for use. They are relatively affordable to purchase and install, making them a popular choice for many households. However, they can be less energy-efficient compared to other options.
Tumblr media
Gas Storage Systems:
Gas hot water systems operate similarly to electric storage systems but use natural gas or LPG to heat the water. They are often more energy-efficient than electric models and can provide a continuous hot water supply as long as there is a gas supply.
Continuous Flow (Tankless) Systems:
Tankless hot water systems heat water on demand, which means they only heat water when you need it. They are typically more energy-efficient than storage systems since they eliminate standby heat loss. However, they may have higher upfront costs and require sufficient gas flow or electrical capacity.
Heat Pump Systems:
Heat pump hot water systems extract heat from the air and use it to heat water. They are highly energy-efficient, making them a cost-effective option over the long term despite higher initial costs. Heat pumps work best in warm climates but can operate efficiently in cooler climates with adequate ventilation.
Solar Systems:
Solar hot water systems use solar collectors (panels) to absorb energy from the sun to heat water stored in a tank. They are environmentally friendly and can significantly reduce energy bills, especially in sunny locations. However, they require adequate roof space and orientation to maximise efficiency.
Considerations for Choosing
When selecting a hot water service Gold Coast, consider the following factors to ensure it meets your household's needs:
Energy Efficiency: Look for systems with high energy star ratings or energy efficiency labels. This helps reduce energy consumption and lowers utility bills over time.
Size and Capacity: Choose a system that matches the size of your household and your hot water usage patterns. Larger families or homes with high hot water demand may require systems with larger storage capacities or higher flow rates.
Installation Requirements: Consider installation costs and requirements. Some systems, like heat pumps or solar systems, may require specific conditions, such as adequate ventilation or roof orientation, for optimal performance.
Maintenance Needs: Evaluate the maintenance requirements of each system. Tankless and solar systems, for example, may require less maintenance than storage systems due to fewer moving parts.
Costs: Compare upfront costs, ongoing maintenance expenses, and potential energy savings over the life of the system. While initial costs are important, consider the long-term benefits of energy-efficient systems.
Installation and Professional Advice
Proper installation is critical to the performance and longevity of your hot water service. Consider consulting with a licensed plumber or hot water specialist to assess your home's requirements and recommend the most suitable system.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability
Choosing an energy-efficient hot water service not only saves you money but also reduces your carbon footprint. Solar, heat pump and gas systems are generally more environmentally friendly options compared to electric storage systems.
Warranty and Support
Check the warranty periods and terms offered by manufacturers. A longer warranty period can provide peace of mind and may indicate the manufacturer's confidence in their product's durability.
Conclusion
Selecting the best hot water service Gold Coast involves weighing factors such as energy efficiency, system type, installation requirements, and long-term costs.
By understanding your household's needs and considering these factors, you can make an informed decision that ensures reliable hot water supply and efficiency for years to come. For personalised advice, consult with a qualified professional to find the optimal solution for your home.

Hot Water Systems on the Gold Coast: Choosing the Perfect Solution for Your Needs
Tumblr media
The Gold Coast, with its stunning beaches, vibrant lifestyle, and year-round sunny weather, is undoubtedly one of Australia's most sought-after destinations. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, having a reliable hot water system is essential to ensure your comfort and well-being in this beautiful region. In this article, we'll explore the different hot water systems available on the Gold Coast and help you choose the perfect one for your needs.
Understanding Your Hot Water Needs
Before delving into the types of hot water systems available, it's crucial to assess your household's hot water needs. Factors to consider include the number of people in your household, your daily hot water usage, and your budget. This information will guide you in selecting the most suitable system for your requirements.
Electric Storage Hot Water Systems
Electric storage hot water systems are a popular choice on the Gold Coast due to their affordability and reliability. These systems use an electric element to heat and store water in a tank until it's needed. They come in various sizes, making it easy to find one that fits your household's needs. However, it's essential to note that electric systems may have higher running costs compared to other options.
Gas Continuous Flow (Tankless) Hot Water Systems
Gas continuous flow hot water systems, also known as tankless systems, are energy-efficient and provide hot water on-demand. They heat water as it flows through the unit, which means you'll never run out of hot water. Gas systems are known for their quick recovery times and are an excellent choice for larger households or homes with high hot water demands. Plus, they tend to be more cost-effective to run than electric storage systems.
Solar Hot Water Systems
With the Gold Coast's abundant sunshine, harnessing solar energy for hot water is a sustainable and cost-effective option. Solar hot water systems use solar panels to heat water, reducing your reliance on electricity or gas. They are environmentally friendly and can significantly lower your energy bills in the long run. While the initial installation cost may be higher, the savings over time make them a smart investment.
Heat Pump Hot Water Systems
Heat pump hot water systems are another energy-efficient choice for Gold Coast residents. They work by extracting heat from the air and transferring it to the water. These systems are highly efficient and can save you money on energy bills. They are an excellent option for eco-conscious homeowners who want to reduce their carbon footprint.
Gas Storage Hot Water Systems
Gas storage hot water systems store hot water in a tank, much like electric storage systems, but they use gas as the energy source. They are known for their fast recovery times and can provide a continuous supply of hot water. Gas storage systems are a reliable and efficient choice, particularly for larger households with high hot water demands.
Choosing the Right Hot Water System
To select the right hot water systems Gold Coast home, consider your budget, hot water usage patterns, and environmental priorities. It's also advisable to consult with a professional plumber or hot water specialist who can assess your specific needs and recommend the most suitable system.

Something beginning with M - Part 1
A/N - This is a pre-cold feet story that I’ve had to separate in to two parts because according to tumblr it was too long. This story is set before the events of cold feet and my other drabbles so don’t worry if you haven’t read any of that series yet, you should still be able to enjoy this ❤️
Warnings: Swearing/fluff
Song: Notion - Tash Sultana
Tumblr media
It was a blistering hot August morning. A stifling humidity drifted along the hazy streets of North West London and invaded the airless cluttered box that was your uncles shop. You had barely been working an hour and already your dress clung needfully to your sticky, sweat soaked body. Inhaling deeply, you took a moment to pull your hair up in to a messy bun; the tiniest of movements were proving strenuous in this weather and even breathing had become burdensome.
Dabbing at your clammy neck and forehead with your apron you took another deep breath of dusty air before kneeling down to finish stacking the shelves behind the counter. A minute or two had passed when the loud jingle jangle of the bell attached to the door cut through the silence and alerted you of a customer. But you didn’t need the bell to inform you of this particular customer; the awareness that prickled across your skin already told you who it was.
“What can I do for you, Mr. Solomons?” Your Uncles strained greeting was a silly question as he already knew what brought the notorious Alfie Solomons to his little treasure on the corner of Hartland Street.
“Where is she, Frank? Where is my sweet Yahalom?”
You smile gleefully as Alfie’s jovial voice rumbled through the tiny shop and rippled over your body.
Hurriedly finishing your task, you shove the remaining tins sloppily on to the shelves before releasing your hair from the bun and letting it fall in a cascade of unruly waves.
A tumbling clatter accompanied you as you sprung up from the counter; the tins you had half-heartedly stacked and balanced, toppled from the rackety wooden shelves and hit the floor with a ceremonious clunk. You tried your best to bashfully mask your shoddy workmanship by kicking the rebellious tins against the counter while casting an apologetic smile at your uncle who just sighed and shook his head in exasperation.
“There she is..”
You quickly turn your attention to Alfie who was shamelessly staring at you.
His hair was dishevelled and messy; a devilish look only a man as ruggedly handsome as Alfie Solomons could pull off. He was dressed down in a white and pale blue pin stripe shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows showing off his burly forearms and gold laden wrists. The crumpled shirt was tucked slackly in his black trousers complete with braces that hung idly by his thighs. His informal and unkempt appearance was a pleasure to behold and gave you a rare and welcomed view of his broad body which was usually hidden beneath a waistcoat or jacket.
Your greedy, wandering eyes landed on his and you became instantly lost in the sultry stare of his darkening blue orbs.
Your heart fluttered wildly as the heat of his fixated gaze betrayed his cool demeanour and sent your own temperature into scorching heights.
“Hello Alfie. You’re early today. Is everything okay?” You utter breathlessly.
“Yeah, everything’s fine, Pet.” He gives you a slight, reassuring smile. “But, I need you to come with me. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
A rush of excitement caused your face to split into a silly grin. However, your Uncles tense posture and disapproving frown halted your enthusiasm.
Your Uncle had made it very clear from the beginning that he didn’t approve of your courtship with Alfie or his regular visits to his shop. And you knew that Alfies spontaneous suggestion and impetuous attitude would do no more than further fan the flames of your Uncles disfavour.
“I-I’d really love to, Alfie. But I’m working. I can’t just leave my Uncle in the lurch.” You explain regretfully.
Alfie raises an eyebrow. Slowly turning to assess the customer-less shop. You watch him, carefully avoiding your Uncles gaze while biting back a smile.
Alfies eyes fall back on you bemused.
“Well, you’re not exactly rushed off your feet, are ya. What do ya say, Frank? You wouldn’t mind if I whisk your Niece away for a little while, would ya? I mean keeping ‘er locked up in this sweatbox all day is fucking criminal.” Alfies disconcerted frown moves from Frank to you.
“Not a chance-“ Your Uncle begins to protest but is cut off when Alfies threatening gaze jerks back to him. “-Of you staying.” He has an instantaneous change of heart, folding like a deck chair under Alfies deadly glare.
“See, you have his blessing.” Alfie turns to you with a cocky shrug. “Come.” He holds out his hand signalling for you to join him but still
you hesitate.
“Go on then!” Your Uncle snaps irritably. And you can see the desperation in his eyes for Alfie and his intimidating presence to just be gone from his shop.
Not wasting another minute you remove your apron and swiftly make your way around the counter to Alfie. Thanking your Uncle and promising to make it up to him.
Taking Alfies hand, you relish the feverish feeling of his skin on yours as he escorts you outside to his waiting car.
“Where are we going?” You ask eagerly.
“If I told you that, it wouldn’t be a fucking surprise would it? Now, come on. Jump in before I change my mind.” He opens the car door and you climb in, sliding over to make room for him next to you.
“Hello Daniel.” You greet Alfie’s driver and notice a basket and blanket nestled on the passenger seat next to him.
“Morning Miss.” He replies. Nodding his head in polite acknowledgement.
Alfie settles in next to you. Taking your hand, he brings it to his luscious mouth to graze a soft kiss across your knuckles. The tickle of his wiry facial hair against your skin sends your pulse racing and you begin to wonder what his beard covered lips would feel like against other places of your body.
You had been courting Alfie for a while now and your feelings for him were growing stronger by the day. Just being in his presence alone stirred up an unquenchable desire deep within you and often left an intense aching in places you had never allowed anyone to venture.
The obnoxious sound of Daniel pumping the horn at a loitering driver brought you back down to Earth. You flush at the scandalous direction of your musings, squirming against the hard leather of the seat to rid your loins of the inappropriate throbbing while Daniel skilfully overtook the inconsiderate driver and pulled out into the rush hour traffic.
You were too busy enjoying Alfies company to be sure how long you had been travelling for but you had guessed about an hour or so. He still hadn’t told you where he was taking you and every time you passed a road sign he would craftily distract you with a joke or a touch.
“It’s my turn now, innit...” You were currently in the middle of a tense game of I spy.
“I spy with my fucking eye...” He squints, carefully observing his surroundings as you smirk at his ability to squeeze profanity into the most innocent of situations.
“...Something beginning with M.” His studying gaze lands on you and your heart skips a beat.
pursing your lips thoughtfully. The soft purring of the cars engine inspires you.
“Motor.”
“Nope. Not even close.” He shakes his head, looking coyly out of his window. Sneakily you try and follow his line of sight for a clue but see nothing beginning with that consonant.
“D’ya give up?” Alfie asks with a smug grin.
“No.” You say defiantly. “I’m just warming up.” You inspect inside the car, on yourself, on Alfie - but that wasn’t a good idea. His handsomeness was a distraction and for a brief moment you had forgotten entirely what you were searching for. Remembering the task at hand and your determination to win, you come to your senses and eventually resort to poking your head to the front of the car to check Daniel, momentarily distracting him from the road.
“Man!” You exclaim with utmost certainty.
“Give over, Pet.” Alfie scoffs. “That ain’t no fucking man... Anyway, that’s still not it.”
With a frustrated huff you slump back into the backseat, looking out to the open road beyond the windscreen. That’s when you see it. The Kent coast sprawled out in all its glory. The reflection of the sun bouncing off the sea like a thousand glittering diamonds.
“Margate.” You gasp.
“Well done.” Alfie commends you. You tear your gaze away from the sparkling sea to look at him. You were only telling him the day before about your family outings to Margate and how you hadn’t been back there since your Father had died. You were shocked to learn that Alfie had never been.
“I’ve brought you to Margate for the day, Yahalom. That okay with you?” He regards you warily, trying to gauge your reaction.
“It’s more than okay...” Your voice was timid, betraying your excitement that was tainted with an underlying apprehension. Margate held a special place in your heart and you were concerned that being back there would bring back memories of your father and the awful feelings of loss that unfortunately came along with them. Never the less you couldn’t discount your gratitude to Alfie and his thoughtfulness.
“Thank you, Alfie. You really didn’t have to go to all this trouble.” You knew how busy he was and that him being away from the bakery all day would be bad for business.
“Trouble?! You’ve done nothing but cause me fucking trouble since that day you threw a bucket of water over me.” You knew he was only jesting about the accidental mishap but you couldn’t help but cringe at the memory of how you had first met.
“... Anyway, I could do with a little break myself. And well, when you were telling me about all those memories with your dad, right, it got me thinking that me and you could make some memories of our own.” Your heart leapt from your chest, erasing that ghastly apprehension about returning to Margate completely. It amazed you how someone as feared and hard-boiled as Alfie Solomons could also be such a sweetheart.
Margate was like a home from home for you. It had been a while since your last visit but as you explored the sea front with Alfie, it was obvious that the charming seaside town hadn’t lost it’s magic.
The beach and pier were thriving. Heaving with swarms of couples and families; Parents with a bouncing brood of ice cream covered children all having fun and frolicking on the sand in the beautiful sunny weather. Your eyes fell to the crashing waves and the exact spot where your father had taught you how to swim. You could still hear his voice now.
“That’s it, Y/N. Just keep going.” He’d encourage you proudly as you thrashed your arms and legs, fighting with the water until you finally got it right.
“Y/N?” Alfies gruff voice brought you back to the present. “You alright?”
You smile at him, blinking away the sting of tears.
“...I’m all left actually.” You joke, unwilling to put a dampener on the day before it had even started.
“You cheeky mare.” Alfie admonishes you lightly with a tap to your bottom. Your smile
Broadens as you lean into him.
“Come. Let’s keep going.” You tell Alfie. Your Father’s words resonating through you as you left the ghosts of the past behind and continued along the promenade.
A cheerful tune accompanied by a noisy clamour of exuberant squeals of delight and laughter caught your attention as it drifted from ‘Dreamland’ Which was Margate’s very own hall by the sea and provided an array of entertainment and attractions for people of all ages.
From formal tea rooms to an abundance of thrilling fairground rides, concert halls and stunning gardens that boasted towering bush mazed pathways, which if followed correctly would lead you to a zoo that housed a variety of exotic animals for it’s fascinated visitors to observe.
It was aptly named, for Margate’s hall by the sea was indeed the land of dreams.
With your hand nestled securely in Alfies, you pulled him through the ardent crowd that swarmed entrance.
Bypassing the sweet, alluring aromas of the over-occupied tearooms you headed towards the chaos of the bustling fair that was animated with a host of gyrating rides and exhilarating screams of excitement. You were just about to ask Alfie if he wanted to go on the wooden rollercoaster with you, when he began to complain of a pain in his back.
You raised a skeptical brow at him but it didn’t really bother you, the heat was too intense to withstand the queues that stretched as far as the eye could see, and in all honesty you couldn’t actually imagine a man of Alfies stature whizzing around on the tumble bug anyway. So you decided to let him off, but not without teasing him about his very sudden, very convenient case of sciatica first.
After you had poked your fun at Alfies expense, you swapped the fairground flurry for a romantic stroll through the heavenly scented gardens that were much less rowdy and crowded.
Carefully and without managing to get lost, you lead the way through the labyrinth of dense green bushes, following the increasing volume of the chirping and chattering animals until you finally reached the zoo.
It was quite clear to see that the lure of the zoo was no match for the fair; the tree laden pathways were surprisingly empty and horde free.
You gasped in awe as the first cage you stumbled across was home to Wallace the untameable Lion. You admired the impressive beast through the bars as it lounged listlessly on a bed of hay. But you wasn’t fooled by it’s blithe pose, you could see the wild danger hiding in the precarious glint of its Amber eyes. A tottering look you had seen somewhere before...
“He reminds me of you.” You tell Alfie, who was busy observing you rather than the majestic beast.
“What are you trying to say, Yahalom? That I’m a pussy?” He feigns offence. Giving you the same threatening glare he graced your uncle with earlier.
“Well, you did cop out of those rides earlier...” You quip. His eyes to narrow further to fully emphasise his most terrifying ‘watch it’ scowl.
You flash him a sweet, suasive smile before explaining.
“Lions are strong, powerful and proud creatures. Beautiful but dangerous...I’m not sure you’re very tameable either. Might have to think about getting you a cage.” You eye the bulky iron structure that separated the huge cat from it’s freedom.
“Dangerous?” He tests the word. And You’re surprised that he’s singled that one out from the others.
“Yes.” You confirm matter of factly. You knew Alfie was dangerous. You could feel it. It was a palpable energy that shrouded him like an invisible cloak. To most, Alfie was just a callous criminal, fierce and unapproachable. You had heard many things about the ‘monstrous’ Alfie Solomon’s - most of which after you had made his acquaintance, and many told by your mother in vain attempts to deter you from seeing him. But you saw through the inconsistencies of each story as they differed from person to person and brushed off the gossip mongers. You didn’t need to hear idle talk when you could see first hand the demons that lurked behind Alfies ever changing irises.
“You’re not scared of me are ya, Pet?” He asks you seriously.
“No.” You answer without hesitation, certain Alfie would never do anything to purposely hurt you. But it made you wonder after hearing all the stories about your villainous Beau and seeing grown men cower at the mere mention of his name, if you was the only one who wasn’t scared of him. Maybe you was the only one who got to see Alfies softer side? You certainly hoped so.
“We’ve never really had that talk, ‘ave we? About who I am. What I do for a living.” He flexes his jaw, stroking his beard tentatively as he does so.
“No.” You look down at your feet, feeling an awkward tension building. “But I’m not silly.” Your eyes raise from the floor to his. A worried frown governed his features and made your chest ache. “Other than the rum...” You whispered vigilantly, aware of your public surroundings. “...I don’t know the ins and outs of your business, Alfie. And I don’t need to know. I just care about you - the man behind the ‘Baker’.” You wink at him. His unsound eyes search your face but before he can answer, your attention is stolen by a loud incessantly barking seal.
Leaving Wallace the Lion and the uncomfortable conversation behind, you go to the rowdy sea pup, tugging Alfie with you.
“Now this one ‘ere, right...” He settles behind you. The vibration of his deep voice inches from your ear causing a blanket of goosebumps to cover your skin.
“...Bares a striking resemblance to Ollie. Looks just like him, dunnit. All that’s missing is that curly mop of his. Don’t stop fucking moaning like him either.” The seal stops its loud bark to growl at Alfie.
“Don’t give me no backchat, lad. Do you know who I am? Fucking dangerous me. Untameable, according to ‘er.” Alfies head dips in your direction and the seal looks to you as your head falls back on Alfies chest with a chuckle. “And you can keep ya beady little peepers off her as well, mate, yeah, she’s mine.” The petulant pup growls again causing you to laugh even harder. Bored with Alfie’s stupidity, the seal - now affectionately named Ollie, gives one last whining bark before waddling off and plunging sulkily into the murky blue pool of its enclosure.
“That’s it, bugger off.” Alfie tells it.
“Bye Ollie.” You bid the Seal a fond farewell. Turning, you link your arm with Alfies and continue on to the next enclosure.
“We’ve just got to find an animal that looks like you now.” Alfie hums pensively.
“Watch what you say next, Mr. Solomons. Like our friend Wallace over there I can bite too.”
“Oh I believe ya, Pet...Now, where’s the monkeys?” He stops to look around.
You gasp in mock offence, giving him a hard shove that barely moves his solid structure.
“You’re going to get bitten.” You warn him.
“And I’ll probably like it. As long as you’re doing the biting that is.”
You roll your eyes at him while your mind ponders excitedly what part of Alfie you’d bite first.
You ended the day by finding a secluded part of the beach away from the busy pier and it’s patrons. Apart from the cawing seagulls, you and Alfie was the only occupants on the sandy dunes. You helped Alfie set up the blanket and picnic he had thoughtfully packed. Unable to hide a silly smile as he staked claim that this part of the beach was now yours and his.
You spoke and ate avidly before complaining to Alfie that you felt bad about Daniel who by his order had loyally and no doubt sweatily been looking after the car all day while you both enjoyed yourself.
“Surely he can join us? He’s been stuck in that car all day.”
“No.” It was a stern, cold answer from an unfazed Alfie. But it didn’t deter you as you did the next best thing and gathered up some of the leftover food to make Daniel a little picnic of his own to enjoy in the car.
Once you delivered the care package to a sweaty and grateful Daniel, you returned to a speechless Alfie who just observed you with a curious narrowed gaze. Your persistence and interest of Daniels welfare had irked Alfie, and although he’d hate to admit it, beneath his irrational jealousy was a hidden admiration of your caring heart.
You threw the last remaining scraps and crumbs to the circling gulls before finally giving in to temptation and leaving a brooding Alfie to paddle in the sea.
Your fists grasped the hem of your dress, bunching it up to your hips while your toes wiggled and sank into the soggy sand, burying your feet as the cold waves lapped relentlessly at your ankles. Closing your eyes you savoured the cool breeze and the smell of the coastal air. It was utter bliss. The only thing missing was Alfie. Turning at the waist, you look behind to search for him. He was still resting on the blanket where you had left him sulking.
Propped up on his elbows he watched you. No doubt taking full advantage of the view of your thighs that you were purposely parading just for him.
You couldn’t help but notice how lost and out of place he looked against the deserted sandy dunes of the beach. Determined to relieve the obvious tension in his rigid posture and snap him out of his strop, you saunter luringly towards him. Dropping to your knees on the soft, warm sand at his feet. He doesn’t move or speak but his turbulent eyes are big and questioning as you begin to untie the laces of his shoes and slip them from his feet along with his socks. He’s now barefoot as you carry on your mission, rolling his trouser legs up above his ankles until you couldn’t roll them any further.
You look up at him once you’re finished, almost salivating at the sight in front of you. The sea breeze attacked his unruly mass of hair and billowed his shirt firmly against his solid body. Brazenly you crawled over him, resting all of your weight on one hand as the other fiddled with the top three buttons of his shirt. He sucked in a sharp intake of breath as your fingers accidentally skimmed the soft skin and crisp hairs of his chest that lay beneath the now flapping material.
“That’s better.” You say, looking up at him. Nose to nose, the closeness disarmed you and for a minute you had forgotten how to breath. Lightheaded, you lost your balance as your body strained towards his. His hand grabbed your hip to steady you. The chaste contact only adding fuel to your fire and riddling you once again with a yearning for the man you were straddling. You desperately needed to cool down before you did something stupid.
“Come and paddle with me.” You request breathlessly.
“Gimme a kiss and I’ll think about it.” His playful negotiation told you that he had indeed snapped out of his grump.
“You can have a kiss...” You counter, smiling mischievously. “...But you’ll have you catch me first.” Quickly you clamber off of him and run away.
“Right!” You hear him exclaim as he gets to his feet to make chase. You scream in delight as he stomps the sand after you.
Trying to be clever, you change direction and head towards the sea but the moistened sand only slowed your efforts of getting away. He was in-front of you now, grinning like the cat that got the cream. You moved to the right and he mirrored your movement.
“There’s no escape, Yahalom. You’re mine now.”
A cunning smile graced your lips as you pounced misleadingly to the right before darting around him on the left. You had barely made it two feet before you were bound in his strong arms. You let out a giggling scream, trying to squirm unsuccessfully from his capturing clutches.
“Gotcha.” He shouts triumphantly. Spinning you so that you now faced him.
“Now you better gimme that kiss or I’m going to throw you in.” He gestures towards the sea next to you.
“You wouldn’t dare.” You test him.
“Na? Wouldn’t I? I’m untameable remember. You really shouldn’t underestimate what I’m capable of, Sweetie.” He gives you a toothy grin. His eyes bright with that familiar precarious glint.
“I’m not scared of you, Solomons. I think you’re all talk.” You raise your chin primly to him.
“Right. Well, there’s only one thing for it then, in’t there.” He lifts you with ease towards the rhythmic pulsing waves of the sea.
You scream. Clinging to him as if your life depended on it but it was no use, a clashing wave hit you hard, splashing up your bodies and soaking both of you from the waist down. You gasped as the cold water took your breath away.
“Okay! Okay.” You shout through a chattering laugh. “I surrender. You win.” You wrap your legs around his waist and seal your mouth over his, tasting the salty beads of the sea on his dry lips. He groans in approval, his arms grasping you tightly to his brawny body. The cold waves still collided wilfully against you both but you no longer cared.
“You should have known better than to run from me, Pet. I’ll always catch ya.” Alfie says through kisses.
You pull away beaming at him. But your smile soon fades as you catch sight of the hazy sun lowering in the sky.
“Oi, what’s that frown about?” He asks.
“It’s going to sound silly but I just don’t want this day to end.” You grumble dismally. Turning your attention from the setting sun to rest your forehead against Alfies.
“This is far from the end my sweet.” He strokes your back gently. His voice rumbling through his chest to yours. “This ‘ere, yeah, is just the beginning for you and me. There’s plenty more good times to be had.”
Your heart aches for the hundredth time that day and you knew in that moment without a shadow of a doubt that you loved him. You wanted so badly to tell him, to sing the revelation from the rooftops. But out of fear of your feelings not being reciprocated the words refused to come out.
Hoping to make the day last as long as possible you insisted on staying to watch the sunset which meant by the time you had packed up to leave Margate, the sky was rapidly darkening.
A huge yawn racked your weary frame as you snuggled into Alfie in the backseat of the car. The drive back to North West London was spent in a relaxed, comfortable silence. However, the longer you drove and the closer you got to home the more melancholy you became knowing that the day was that little bit closer to being over.
The thought was sobering so you cuddled further into Alfie. Instinctively his arm tightened around you, happily accommodating your need to be just that little bit closer. You distantly register the gentle kiss he placed upon your head while you tried desperately to fight the closing of your tired eyes...

congratz on the 200! Please could you do Dickyboy x female reader with the prompts 42.“You look…” “Beautiful, I know. Can we move on?”, 57.“You love her don’t you?” “Was it that obvious?”, and 59.“I was just kind of hoping that you’d, y’know…. fall in love with me.”? Thank you so so much
2.1k of our darling Dick Grayson feeling flustered because he’s got a big fat crush on the reader. I hope you like it!!
42.“You look…” “Beautiful, I know. Can we move on?”
57.“You love her don’t you?” “Was it that obvious?”
59.“I was just kind of hoping that you’d, y’know…. fall in love with me.”
Artemis watches you spin in several circles, arms angled awkwardly over your shoulders, attempting to zip up your dress, before you promptly collapse on the bed with an exasperated shriek.
She clears her throat, eyebrow arched. “You know, I could…help you.”
You grimace.
“The magic word is please.” She informs you, standing up and striding over to you. The emerald gown flows off of her elegant, wiry frame, gentle against her curves and pulling the pretty olive tone from her skin.
You feel like a hot mess next to her, bunching your hair up so she can tug the zipper up against your spine. She pats your shoulder reassuringly and you sulk, letting your hair drop and your shoulders sag.
“Thank you,” You grumble.
“What’s got you down in the dumps? We’re going to eat fancy little appetizers and drink fruity things and there will be no shortage of eye candy. This banquet is going to be a little slice of heaven.” She smirks when she sees you flush. “But eye candy doesn’t matter to you, though. You’re holding out for one charming Richard Grayson, hm?”
You turn away from her, marching stiffly toward the bathroom to finish applying a delicate layer of mascara. “Am not!”
That was a lie. You were absolutely enthralled at the prospect of ogling at Dick in a flattering tux and hearing his boisterous laughter. You weren’t overly fond of fancy banquets and pretentious small talk and perilous high heels, yet they were integrated heavily into your graduate school experience – but maybe that only happens when you receive a Wayne Enterprises scholarship to one of the most prestigious law schools on the coast and are required to fraternize at fundraising galas filled to the brim with Gotham’s most elite.
“You look beautiful, Y/N. He’s going to drool.”
The compliment makes you outrageously self-conscious, even though it comes from one of your closest companions. Your hands are cold as you press them against your heated cheeks. It even makes you a little bashful to look in the mirror, face adorned with a little more makeup than usual and a simple hairdo. It makes you nervous to be so dolled up. You like simplicity and predictability, comfortably situated in a defined schedule. You are grounded yet flexible, entrenched in routine but adaptable to the changes thrown at you in the form of revised deadlines and additional papers. You know your aspirations and what you wanted from life and you know your limits.
But you don’t know how to function properly in front of Dick Grayson.
This fact is calamitous considering you must collaborate with him often, working out of a public attorney office down the street from the police station to exchange information addressing both criminals and victims. Professionalism usually comes easily to you, polite handshakes and appropriate jokes, but when Dick pops into the office with a file of information and your favorite espresso, you almost always stutter and fall over – even if you’re already seated.
But being around Dick has developed into an unfortunate borderline addiction. Something about his emphatic energy and cloying compassion and aquamarine eyes leaves you wanting more and more each time he utters your name. You thought you’d been inconspicuous about the moon eyes and dreamy sighs until one afternoon a few months ago when Artemis asked if you’d made out with him in the custodial closet yet. When you sputtered a horrified denial of such a thing, she had casually shrugged and demanded an invitation to the wedding someday.
“Pinky promise me you’ll say at least five words to him tonight.”
You wrinkle your nose at her, and she huffs.
“It’s not impossible, Y/N! And you must know he loves talking to you. He practically melts when you smile at him. I’ve seen it!”
You emerge from the bathroom to dig around in your closet for a pair of shoes. You tug out your cutest, most painful pair of pumps. “I don’t like breaking promises. And I would definitely break that promise. And do you think I’d break my ankle if I wore these?”
Artemis squints. “Potentially. But they make your legs look hot. And if you break an ankle, Dick can just carry you around.”
You groan and drop the shoes.
She launches herself off the couch and comes to stand in front of you, grinning. “C’mon, let’s practice.” Her voice drops and octave. “Hey, Y/N, glad to see you here. How’s your night going?”
You snort and shrug. “Oh. It’s going alright. I was just kind of hoping that you’d, y’know…fall in love with me and father my firstborn. No big deal.”
Artemis fixes you with a serious look but her mouth twitches in amusement. “That can be arranged.” She manages to maintain the deep voice before erupting into giggles – and it’s contagious.
You lean over to wrench your foot into the heel. “One step at a time.”
The penthouse is like a dream, decorated with string lights and gold streamers and southern magnolias in a way that’s both cozy and sophisticated. Wide glass doors open to reveal a large balcony, more flowers wound around stone and matte iron, sweetening the summer evening breeze. Above the murmur of conversation, a quaint orchestra plays near the entrance beneath a sign that welcomes guests to the gala, raising money for organizations that help people formerly incarcerated for non-violent offenses find stability.
“B really went all out for this, huh?” Jason muses, swirling a glass of red wine.
“It’s the last big benefit before summer begins and things get too crazy. He might as well have.” Dick shrugs and thanks a waiter for some sort of cute-looking pastry on a toothpick.
“I wonder if we’ll double the donation amounts this year. Actually, I bet Steph we would because there are two dozen more checkbooks in this room than last year.” Tim declares.
Damian arches an eyebrow. “Does it qualify as dehumanizing to refer to people as checkbooks?”
“Only if they hear you.” Jason replies, stealing a slice of pineapple off of Damian’s plate.
The boys have taken momentary refuge from socializing in a corner near the balcony doors, hovering over a shared plate of appetizers with complicated names.
And then you walk in, downright radiant, and Dick nearly chokes on a shrimp.
He keels over, coughing and wheezing, and Jason tentatively pats his back, offering him his glass. Seeing as water is not an immediate often and you look so good, he’s going to have a conniption, Dick takes several large gulps from Jason’s glass.
Damian watches him curiously. “Might I ask why you nearly hacked up a lung?”
“It’s more like he nearly hacked up his heart. The pretty girl he’s been enamored with for ages just walked in.” Tim grins.
Dick wants to deny it, but his voice is tight, and he’s beyond flustered – plus, it’s the undeniable truth. He’s been besotted for months.
“I’ll bet…a cat…that Dick makes a move by the end of this evening.”
Tim holds up his hands in defense. “There’s no need to bet. It’s going to happen.”
Jason grins at Dick, who appears rather overwhelmed. “Pinky promise.”
You find it incredibly difficult to resist searching for Dick when you enter the penthouse – so difficult, in fact, that you fail and end up ogling at every dark-haired man that pops into your field of vision. When you finally spot him, across the room looking decidedly mouthwatering in a navy tuxedo, you blush violently, and Artemis knows instantly about your discovery.
“You are beautiful, Y/N. Inside and out. And he knows it. Just go talk to him! Take a drink over to him! Then let him take you home.”
She’s informed you of her perception of your beauty at least twenty times since the car ride here and you were about to lose it. “Absolutely not!”
She taps the top of her wrist, referring to a nonexistent watch. “The clock is ticking, Y/N.”
You glower and shove a crab cake into your mouth.
The clock doesn’t have to tick for long before you find yourself an arm’s length away from Dick Grayson at the dinner buffet.
He looks impossibly more stunning this close up, glancing at you coquettishly through his lashes in a way that nearly makes you stumble face first into the pasta.
“Enjoying the evening so far I hope?”
You nod dumbly, hoping he doesn’t see the way your hands shake when you pluck a piece of bread from the pile. “It’s lovely. Are you?” You peek up at him shyly, throat constricting that charming smile.
“You are,” He says softly, pausing with a pair of salad tongs in his right hand. A sharp jab in the rib from Jason and the panicked expression across your face ground him immediately – and by that he means he comes crashing back to earth in a big, frantic, fiery explosion.
Dick clears his throat forcefully, but his voice still cracks a little. “I – oh god, um why did I – w-what I mean to say is that yes, y-you are right, it is lovely.”
You’re so flustered, you can only look at him with wide eyes and a parted mouth, so he promptly bids you goodbye and books it back to the table.
Artemis nudges you along and laughs in a low tone, one that makes your jaw tic.
“You’re beautiful, he’s beautiful, and you’ll have beautiful babies. I’m thinking the color scheme of the wedding should be Caribbean blue – like the color of his eyes, you know?”
You know. Too well.
Jason cackles and recounts the dinner fiasco to the table while Dick tensely stabs some steamed carrots, face flaming.
“You love her, don’t you?” Tim quirks an eyebrow.
“I don’t – she just – oh, for god’s sake.” Dick exhales deeply in exasperation, deflating like a tired balloon, and then recoils a little. “Was it that obvious?”
Jason snorts. “She said less than five words and you gawked at her like she was infinitely better than sliced bread. Or any type of breakfast cereal.”
Damian tilts his head inquisitively. “Is that what the romantic variation of love does to a young man?”
“Among other things.” Jason smirks.
“Hm. Interesting.”
Dick eats the rest of his dinner half-heartedly, pushing around seasoned vegetables and steak cooked to perfection.
“I think you should go talk to Y/N.” Jason tells Dick earnestly.
Dick winces. “I don’t want to make a fool out of myself. I really like her.”
“She spent ninety percent of the last half-hour glancing in your direction. I think that maybe she really likes you, too.” Tim offers.
“She’s at the dessert table. Go tell her how you really like chocolate cake. And her face.” Jason nods in your direction and Dick drags his gaze from his brother over to you a little too eagerly.
You’re intensely studying the array of frosted cake pops, features pulled into a darling frown.
Dick pushes out his chair and stands abruptly. “I’m going to do it.”
“He’s going to do it!” The boys cheer.
“I’m going to die.”
The boys boo him.
“Been there, done that. And let me tell you, there are no cute girls.”
Dick takes that with a grain of salt and wishes his legs were a little shorter, so he had more time to prepare. But nothing can prepare him for the alluring curve of your neck and shoulders that he wants to kiss and the scent of your perfume that leaves him cotton-mouthed and the endearing little tendrils falling out of your hairdo that he wants to twirl around his fingers.
He comes to a stop, just lingering on the edge of your space.
He fumbles over his words for several painful moments before, “You look…”
You stiffen and bristle, expecting to glare agitatedly at Artemis. “Beautiful, I know. Can we move on?”
And then you turn around to see Dick Grayson, aqua eyes blown wider than the moon, rosy hue blossoming rapidly across the apples of his cheeks.
You audibly gasp and proceed to flail your arms frantically. “Oh no. OH NO. I didn’t mean you! I thought you were – oh, fuck, I messed up – why is this happening? I’m s-so sorry, Dick! I didn’t know it was going to –”
His mouth slides up into a bemused smile, teasing and tender. “I’m glad you know you look good, Y/N.”
Your mouth snaps shut, and you think you probably look like a steaming tomato, but you’re enchanted by that mouth and that low voice, so you can’t help but lean into his space.
Dick’s gaze flits up to the ceiling. “B-but I don’t think I can really move on. I’ve been stuck on you for, like, a really long time.”
“Good.” You breathe. “Let’s stay stuck. Together.”
He tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, leaving his fingers against the side of your neck for a moment too long, bringing a new wave of bashfulness to the surface of your skin. “That can be arranged.”

How to Disappear
So I’m painfully aware of how long it’s been, but I’m back with a new Doctor fic finally.
Song: How to Disappear - Lana del Rey
Word Count: 3142
Tumblr media
John met me down on the boulevard Cry on his shoulder 'cause life is hard The waves came in over my head What you been up to, my baby? I haven't seen you 'round here lately All of the guys tell me lies, but you don't You just crack another beer And pretend that you're still here
Heat emanated from the asphalt beneath her well-worn wedges, wrinkled dress fluttering about her legs as she strolled along a sidewalk bustling with every walk of life. Dozens of people that seemed to be straight out of magazines, performing and spectating, selling and advertising. A wry smile made its way across her dull, tired face. Vibrantly painting shops and other miscellaneous buildings passed on her other side, watching the world pass them by outside as others were constantly streaming inward and out. Everything she’d ever heard about California was true. Above her a lapis sky reflecting back, cotton ball clouds puffing along like steam engines above the crashing sea of humanity gathered near the ocean.
(Y/N) swept her wavy (h/c) hair behind her, slipping through the crowd. Beautiful people met her face-to-face, brushing by her as if she belonged there. Thrumming with energy despite her complete state of utter exhaustion, her hand went to the bag dangling at her hip. Breaking from the crowd was almost difficult. There was something almost magical, the magnetism of being surrounded by so many eccentrics again. In the neon green light of the sign overhead, however, she felt the pull of something stronger: a cold beer after a weary day.
Seating herself at the bar, she folded her legs neatly and searched in her purse. She took her compact out, reapplied her deep red lipstick, and ordered a cheap beer. The bartender almost smiled at her as she took her order, and offered her a lighter when the (h/c) pulled a cigarette from its pack. (Y/N) met the older woman’s gentle, watery blue eyes as she lit it, puffing out a cloud and murmuring a word of thanks. In return an ash tray was pushed her way, and she was alone with her thoughts again.
It had been a long day. Or a week of long days, really. A long couple of months, would be a better descriptor.
Six months ago she was climbing onto a plane with a breathtaking woman she’d only known for weeks, luggage stuffed haphazardly with clothes and other personal belongings. In the cold December air, she jetted for the New World alongside a goddess with a voice like honey and storms in her eyes, no sunlight on the horizon. Leaving London and a set of hazel puppy dog eyes in her wake. The pain flashed through them like lightning, her own (e/c) eyes watching it crackle across flecks of gold and green.
Life was good for the first two or three months. They landed in the Big Apple, New York City, with a purse full of American currency and stars in her red, soggy eyes. From there they were unstoppable.
Nights spent against each other, inhaling the sweet adrenaline of not knowing where they’d go next, heavy smoke, and the glitter her girl would dab onto her willowy cheekbones. Bus seats were their home when they couldn’t find somewhere to stay, shuttling off from town to town with no true destination in mind, just anywhere to run to. Anywhere they felt free. Until money started running low, and their dream crashed headfirst into an iceberg and sank, down and down until forgotten like ships from fairytales or dramatic novels or movies. And, they just so happened to bring their own Titanic down in the middle of Nevada.
In the tiny house they’d managed to swing rent for, she felt every mile she’d traveled weighing on her shoulders. Even with the job she’d found, hunger pangs were still a reality. No longer salivating at the idea of escaping further into the American Dream, (Y/N) and the angel dripped and dripped until they were pools of tears that became oceans, rolling and thrashing, lashing out at each other. Gone were the featherlight kisses she’d pressed to her pillow-like lips, the intimate secrets and late nights spent lost in their own sultry twilight. Debauchery, it seemed, wasn’t a lifestyle she could realistically manage.
Sticky, sweaty mornings spent groggy until hangovers set in were lost in time, dissolved like medicine in a glass of water. Biting kisses became biting remarks, and biting remarks grew into discussions that grew into (Y/N) moving out with all her savings. A bus ticket was her ticket to salvation, and she shipped off for California, the land of the freaks and free, apparently.
Thick steps brought her onto the bus once again, and her thoughts were finally forced back to those eyes, loving her and hating her in equal measure as she ran from their affection. (Y/N) remembered how regret was a boulder sitting in her stomach, fear was the blood in her veins, He’d still come with hope things could’ve been different, and the last thing she remembered as she stared into their abyss is that she never deserved him.
And in the midst of her misty-eyed reverie, an all-too-familiar touch ghosted her waist. Dabbing the wetness away with the napkin that had come around her almost empty drink, she turned to the love of her life with the same tenderness she’d always had.
“Allow me to buy your next one, and the proceeding one, if I may.”
The sound of his voice hummed through her like hot chocolate hitting a cold stomach. Flooded with remorse and the only true sense of comfort she’d ever known in her short life, she studied his sharp face. Thick, chestnut colored locks of hair flopped down over his forehead as he settled into the stool next to hers. Even in the middle of summer on the western coast, he wore his signature tweed coat over his brilliantly crimson bow tie. The bartender nodded at them from her spot behind the bar, sliding two more beers their way.
All of a sudden it was their first meeting again, the one where she fell in love instantly.
           “Hello, Doctor.”
           “Hello (Y/N).”
This is how to disappear This is how to disappear
They danced on the floor after one two many rounds, (Y/N) thrown around the Doctor’s lithe frame as she cried for the fourth time that evening. One spent catching up, laughing like old times, and even talking of the future. Their future.
“I’m sick, Doctor,” she whispered, voice slightly slurred as her damp cheek pressed into his chest. “I never wanted to leave you.”
The Doctor stilled his swaying for a moment, but continued almost as if he hadn’t stopped. Raking his fingers clumsily through her long, dirty (h/c) hair, he pressed the thin line of his mouth to her forehead.
           “I know.”
Joe met me down at the training yard Cuts on his face 'cause he fought too hard I know he's in over his head But I love that man like nobody can He moves mountains and pounds them to ground again I watched the guys getting high as they fight For the things that they hold dear To forget the things they fear
The year was 1939, years before America joined the war. Word was coming from overseas, and it felt bleaker than the textbooks describe. (Y/N)’s stomach dropped when she heard of Germany’s attack against Poland, as if she didn’t know what came next. It was all worlds away, however, as she leaned against the concrete wall of the military base. Her curls were falling int he sticky southern heat of Louisiana, and she lifted her lit cigarette to her painted mouth. Across the yard, he sparred with a stocky man covered in tattoos.
Travelling felt so good, for the first time in what felt like forever. The luxury of a confirmed bed to sleep in every time she chose, food being available almost instantly, but the true pleasure came in the company she kept while doing so. The Doctor, her sweet boy, the eternal man, took her in without a question. Her impending doom was a topic for another day whenever he wrapped her in his wiry but sturdy arms, eyes finding hers in confirmation she isn’t leaving again.
Her mind is elsewhere as her own wandering eyes are focused on his back. In a baggy, soiled white tank top and hefty olive pants, dark boots that added two inches to his height, with shaggy hair that was already growing back, he seemed as if he almost belonged there. Landing solid punches left and right, he pulled back as his opponent countered. Dodging swiftly, he moved in again for a quick onslaught on the man’s side. Hunching over, the man seemed spent, and the Doctor turned his back on him. A mistake, however, when the man stood and lurched forward with a hairy-knuckled fist. She cried out, causing him to turn a few seconds too late as it collided with his sharp jaw.
Hands covered her mouth as she watched him reel, spinning back with furious punches that came from some sort of inward strength. Sometimes she forgot he wasn’t human. Or, in actuality, she forgot he was so damn resilient. Two hearts pumping liquid gold through him, all the knowledge in the universe stacked carefully in his enormous mind, and thousands upon thousands of years of experience on his shoulders.
Before she could process it, the match was over, and the Doctor was sauntering towards her. Sweat poured and clung to his unevenly tanned skin, dark eyes watching her with hunger. He grimaced at her as she took another drag, but it wasn’t the same disappointment as it once was. Now it was bitter resign, and he slid his shirt from around him and draped it across his shoulders before spitting blood and taking the cancer stick to hit it himself.
“Where to next? Had your fill of propaganda and bigotry yet?”
A dry chuckle left her throat as he smiled at her, causing her to roll her eyes. He puffed on as if he had his entire life. Carefully her eyes slid over his physique, taking in his muscles and dirt and grime, the bruises on his knuckles and face.
“Or are you just trying to get off from watching me battle the entire army?”
A sly smirk and light blush instantly bloomed across her face, and she dabbed at her brow with the handkerchief he’d made a show of giving to her in front of the other ladies she’d been working alongside.
“Guilty as charged, hm? No, I believe we’ll be leaving tonight. Is that alright?”
The Doctor merely watched the sun setting behind the other buildings, the sweet screams of cicadas loud in their ears as he reached for her. Throwing the butt down, his arm drew her to his chest and he dipped her, kissing her deeply. His mouth lately had become so sweet, it tasted of cherry pie and ashes and bittersweet unspoken words she knew were bursting in his chest like bubbles against the ground. Across the training grounds, other men whooped and whistled, and they simply remained wrapped up in one another, as always.
This is how to disappear This is how to disappear
Only having a year or two (approximately, give or take a few months) wasn’t as scary as movies or television shows made it out to be, or so (Y/N) thought.
Given her diagnosis, she expected to feel her world crumble around her, or maybe for the sky to fall in the minute she stepped foot outside of her physician’s clinic. Instead, she felt numb. Not unhappy, but she simply did not feel. As she walked to the nearest gas station, she had a basic plan mapped out. Leave the Doctor on some sort of sour note so maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t try to follow her. Go somewhere to sit and decompose like all things do, maybe become fertilizer for wildflowers.
Meeting Jacqueline was her self-described “sign” that she was in the right. Not like in television dramas where the main character was doing the wrong thing, but one reality show that made perfect sense, where she would leave both of the Doctor’s aged hearts broken and bitter, where he would be driven to scream her name out in frustration atop some building somewhere.
Singing in a run-down pub was her only means on income, but she was still stunning in chipped heels and hand-me-down leopard print dresses. Deep mahogany hair that surrounded a porcelain portrait of perfection with slate blue eyes, false eyelashes, and a rose-kissed pout that (Y/N) never tired of meeting with her own until things went south. They fell into something that could’ve been more than infatuation if she hadn’t been so toxic and if (Y/N) hadn’t been hopelessly in love with someone else.
In her head there was no other way of erasing herself, her existence entirely, without the Doctor’s help. So she went the human way out: selfishly, and without warning.
Now it's been years since I left New York And I've got a kid and two cats in the yard The California sun and the movie stars And I watched the skies getting light as I write As I think about those years As I whisper in your ear
A blissfully historic year and a half passed, and (Y/N) was surprisingly still kicking. Feeling weaker every day, it was almost as if she could feel the cancer spreading from her bones outward. Like a tree covered in vines or moss, feeling the tendrils rise and extend and envelop her. Sometimes she thinks the Doctor can tell she’ll pass soon, but she’s always prided herself on her acting. Or maybe he simply doesn’t want to believe it, only he knows but won’t tell.
Now it’s 1984, and she’s reclining on the front porch in a dusty town in Nebraska, feet propped against the chair’s arms. Corn surrounds them as far she can see, wind whistling through and shaking it. The open windows and breeze carry sounds of the Cheers theme and the Doctor rummaging through the kitchen, tinkering with something. On the horizon, the sun is setting and their friends are sprawled on a blanket on the front yard.
Amy and Rory laugh at the sky and whisper like lovestruck children, taking photographs and promising they’ll remember today forever, and (Y/N) can feel the warmth pooling in her chest at the immense amount of love she carries for them. As he wraps his arm around her and their lips lock, the clearing of one’s throat breaks her trance. Jumping at the sound, she playfully glares at her Doctor before realizing he was offering her a glass of iced tea, something he was surprisingly fond of after spending time in the southern United States.
“I never thought this would be where I’d want to be.”
The Doctor hummed in agreement as he sat in the vacant chair next to her, one hand cradling his own drink and the other instinctively falling over hers. As she gazed at the Doctor now, jacket abandoned and suspenders down around his waist, bowtie forgotten in their bedroom somewhere, she felt as if they’d been together for years. His socks were slouched around her ankles, brown with pastel spots, her fingers warm beneath his as the ice in her tea cooled her others, and she knew this was it. This was where she wanted to die. If an afterlife should exist, this would be the exact moment she’d choose for her own personal heaven. To live through every day with the ones she held dear, with not a care in the universe, forever.
That would be just fine.
Amy called to them, crawling up from Rory’s embrace, camera in hand. The pair approached them with the same warmth from her chest in their faces and cheeks, and it was so beautiful she could have wept.
“You look like those old married couples in paintings!”
And she took their picture.
(Y/N) wouldn’t have called them an old couple, but as she looked at her baggy jeans and heavy green sweater, she might have been swayed. They laughed regardless if they agreed, and the Doctor looked indignant as (Y/N) began to crawl into his lap.
“Just because I am an old man doesn’t mean I look it.” He huffed at the pair as they giggled and ran inside.
“Just like children.” She hummed, leaning her head against his as his arm slithered across her waist, accommodating her lighter than ever frame.
“I don’t look it, do I?” The Doctor asked, earning a chuckle in response.
“I dunno, I’ve always had a thing for older men. Maybe that explains why I’m so bloody attracted to you.
“Are you sure it isn’t my devilishly cunning mind or my incredibly chiseled jawline?” He smirked, turning to her with a wink.
“Oh yeah.” She finished, covering his mouth with hers.
Falling into the groove of the kiss, the Doctor dropped his glass as he lifted his hands to her hair. (Y/N) allowed hers to slide from hers as she reached for his face, neither minding the mess at the moment. Because at the moment, it was an alien and a human, completely intertwined with one another, burning their skin into each other’s, as if they could meld together into one and never be without.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” the Doctor pulled away and began mouthing the words against the sickly skin of her neck, and she felt the words reverberate through her as if they were gospel, as if she were a holy vessel with divine intervention being delivered through her.
“Until every blade of grass falls away, until the winds cease, until all color fades from every star, I love you.”
“Mm, poetic for my gangly, awkward man, hmm?”
The Doctor breathed against her neck, no humor found tonight.
“No funnies tonight? Let me put my notecards away then.”
Pulling back, she pouted like a child in its parent’s lap. The Doctor was as serious as the grave, with pounds of suffering weighing his sad eyes down. (Y/N) turned and leaned into his chest, slouching down his torso before feeling his head lay on hers.
“Don’t be so blue, my great American novel is about to end spectacularly.”
Her voice was a hoarse whisper. His response was silence.
Until she felt his tears drip down into her hair, and (Y/N) simply rubbed his hands as the sun fell far from their sight. Laying in his lap, she felt him cling to her as he sobbed, all in silence.
I'm always going to be right here No one's going anywhere

How to Choose the Perfect Hot Water Service for Your Home
When it comes to the comfort of our homes, having a reliable hot water service is non-negotiable.
Picture this: It's a chilly morning, and you're stepping into the shower, expecting a comforting cascade of warm water, only to be greeted by an icy spray. Not the best start to the day, right? This scenario underscores the importance of choosing the right hot water service Gold Coast for your household.
Tumblr media
But with so many options available, ranging from traditional gas heaters to modern solar-powered systems, how do you make the best choice?
In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know about selecting the ideal hot water service that not only meets your household's demands but also optimises energy efficiency.
Whether you're building a new home, upgrading your current system, or simply curious, you're in the right place to discover expert tips on making an informed decision.
Understanding Hot Water Services
Hot water services are a staple in every home, providing the comfort and convenience of hot water on demand. Whether it's for showers, washing dishes, or doing laundry, having a reliable hot water service is essential. However, selecting the right one for your household can be a daunting task without the proper knowledge.
Different Types of Hot Water Services
There are several types of hot water service Gold Coast, each with its own set of advantages and limitations. The most common include:
Storage Water Heaters: These heaters have a tank where water is heated and stored until needed. They can use electricity, gas, or solar energy.
Tankless Water Heaters: Also known as on-demand water heaters, these systems heat water directly without the use of a storage tank.
Heat Pump Water Heaters: These pull heat from the air or ground to heat water, which can be more energy-efficient compared to traditional electric water heaters.
Solar Water Heaters: Utilising solar panels, these systems harness energy from the sun to heat water, offering significant savings on energy bills.
Factors to Consider When Selecting a Hot Water Service
When choosing the right hot water service for your home, consider the following factors:
- Fuel Type: The energy source (gas, electricity, solar, etc.) will affect both operating costs and efficiency.
- Size and Capacity: Ensure the system can meet your household's hot water demand without wasting energy.
- Energy Efficiency: Look for systems with higher energy efficiency ratings to save on energy costs.
- Cost: Evaluate both the upfront cost and the long-term operating costs.
Importance of Energy Efficiency in Hot Water Services
Energy efficiency is crucial in selecting a hot water service. Efficient systems use less energy, which not only reduces your carbon footprint but also lowers your utility bills. Look for systems with high energy star ratings and consider renewable energy options like solar or heat pump water heaters for the most savings.
Assessing Your Household Needs
Before investing in a hot water service, it's vital to assess your household's specific needs to ensure you choose the most suitable system.
Determining Hot Water Usage
Estimate your daily hot water usage by considering the number of people in your household, their hot water usage habits, and peak hot water demands. This information will help determine the size and type of water heating system you need.
Space Availability for Installation
Not all water heaters fit in the same space. Tankless water heaters, for example, require less space than traditional storage tanks. Assess your available space, including for potential future upgrades, to ensure the system you choose will fit.
Budget Considerations
Finally, consider your budget. While upfront costs are a significant factor, it's essential to consider long-term operating costs. More energy-efficient systems may have higher initial expenses but often lead to savings on utility bills over time. Weigh the upfront cost against potential energy savings and government rebates for energy-efficient models to make the most economical choice for your household.
Choosing the Right Size and Type
Selecting the ideal hot water service Gold Coast can feel like a balancing act, but getting the size and type right ensures your household enjoys consistent, cost-effective hot water. Let's dive into how you can make the best choice for your home.
Sizing Guidelines for Hot Water Services
The size of the hot water service you need depends on the number of people in your household and your usage patterns. As a general guideline, an average family of four might need a system that can provide 150-200 litres (40-53 gallons) of hot water daily.
Consider peak usage times—the morning rush or evening baths. If everyone's vying for the shower at the same time, you'll need a system size that can handle this demand without leaving the last person in line taking a cold shower.
Comparing Tank vs. Tankless Hot Water Systems
When choosing between tank and tankless hot water systems, it boils down to storage and immediate access. Tank systems store a large volume of hot water, ready at a moment’s notice, but can be less energy efficient due to heat loss from the tank.
On the flip side, tankless systems heat water on demand, ensuring you never run out of hot water and often leading to energy savings. However, the initial cost and installation might be higher than with tank systems.
Solar and Heat Pump Options for Energy-Efficient Hot Water
For those looking to maximise energy efficiency, solar and heat pump hot water services are excellent options. Solar systems use panels to absorb sunlight, converting it into heat for water, and typically include a backup system for cloudy days.
Heat pump systems, on the other hand, extract warmth from the air or ground to heat water, using significantly less electricity than traditional systems. Both options offer substantial long-term savings on energy bills, though they come with higher initial costs.
Insulation and Maintenance Tips for Energy Efficiency
To ensure your hot water service runs efficiently, proper insulation and maintenance are key. Insulating hot water pipes prevents heat loss as water travels from your heater to your tap, saving energy and water.
Regular maintenance, such as checking for leaks, flushing the tank to remove sediment, and replacing anodes in tank systems, also helps maintain efficiency over time.
Implementing these simple steps can significantly impact your system's longevity and performance, keeping those hot showers both comforting and cost-effective.
Installation and Maintenance
Choosing the right hot water service for your household is only the first step. The next critical phase is installation and ongoing maintenance. Get these steps right, and you're setting yourself up for years of reliable hot water. Let's dive into what you need to know.
Hiring a Professional
When it comes to installing a hot water service Gold Coast, hiring a professional is often the best route. These experts not only bring their knowledge and experience but also ensure that your system complies with all local codes and regulations.
Moreover, professional installation often comes with warranties and guarantees, giving you peace of mind. While it might seem costly upfront, it can save you from expensive mistakes and complications down the line.
DIY Installation
For those who are handy and looking to save some cash, DIY installation might seem appealing. However, it's important to assess your skills realistically and understand the complexities involved.
Hot water systems, especially gas and electric units, involve intricate connections that can be hazardous if not handled correctly.
Always research thoroughly and consider consulting with a professional before deciding to take on the task yourself.
Maintenance Requirements for Different Hot Water Services
Each type of hot water service has its own set of maintenance needs.
For instance:
- Electric and gas units should be inspected annually by a professional to ensure they're running efficiently and safely.
- Solar water heaters may require less frequent checks, but keeping an eye on the solar panels for dirt or debris buildup is crucial.
- Tankless systems often need descaling every year or two, depending on water hardness.
Sticking to a regular maintenance schedule can significantly extend the life span of your unit and help maintain its efficiency.
Cost Analysis and Budgeting
Investing in a hot water service involves considering both the initial purchase and long-term operational costs. Let's explore how to budget smartly for this essential home appliance.
Upfront Cost
The purchase price of hot water services varies widely based on type, size, and brand. Typically, conventional storage tank models are the most affordable, while solar and tankless options represent a higher initial investment. Remember to factor in installation costs, which can add a significant amount to your upfront expenses.
Long-Term Savings
While some hot water services might have a steeper purchase price, they often lead to substantial savings over time. For instance, energy-efficient models, such as tankless or solar heaters, might cost more initially but can drastically reduce your monthly utility bills. Consider the unit's energy efficiency rating and the potential for rebates or tax incentives when calculating long-term savings.
Financing Options for Hot Water Services
For homeowners unable to cover the upfront cost of a new hot water system, several financing options are available. Some retailers offer payment plans, while others might qualify for home improvement loans or government rebates specifically designed for energy-efficient upgrades. Explore all your options to make your investment more manageable.
Tips for Maximising Efficiency to Save on Energy Bills
Optimising your hot water service's efficiency is key to saving money in the long run. Here are a few tips:
- Set the thermostat to an optimal temperature, usually around 120°F, to reduce energy consumption while preventing scalding.
- Insulate your water heater and the first few feet of hot and cold water pipes to minimise heat loss.
- Use low-flow fixtures to decrease hot water usage without sacrificing comfort.
- Regularly maintain your unit to ensure it operates at peak efficiency.
Embracing these habits can lead to significant reductions in your energy bills, making your hot water service not only more affordable but also more environmentally friendly.
Conclusion
Selecting the ideal hot water service for your home might seem daunting at first, but it becomes much more manageable when you break it down into what truly matters: your household needs and energy efficiency.
By considering the size of your household, the space available for the system, your local climate, and potential energy savings, you can make an informed decision that balances comfort, cost, and environmental impact.
Remember, the best hot water service Gold Coast for you is one that fits your unique combination of needs and preferences while also being cost and energy-efficient.
Don't hesitate to seek advice from professionals who can provide insights specific to your situation.
With the right information and a bit of planning, you'll be on your way to enjoying reliable and efficient hot water in your home.

Solar Hot Water Gold Coast
Installing a solar hot water Gold Coast system is an excellent way to reduce the costs of water heating. You can even get generous government subsidies. These subsidies can be as much as 30% of your home's electric bill! This system is ideal for homeowners who want to upgrade their hot water system and save money on their electricity bills.
Installing a Solar hot Water System
There are many advantages to installing a solar hot water system in your home. For one thing, it is cheap to operate and will help you save on your electricity bills. Water heating consumes around 17% of the average household's energy bill. Using a solar hot water system will also cut down on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions your home produces.
The climate of Southeast Queensland is perfect for installing a solar hot water system. Its subtropical climate provides ample sunshine throughout the year, reducing your energy costs dramatically. Fortunately, there are companies in the area that specialize in installing solar hot water systems, such as Rinnai. These companies offer installation, repair, and service, as well as hot water system upgrades.
Cost of Installing a Solar Hot Water System
Installing a solar hot water system on your Gold Coast property is an excellent way to cut your energy costs. Solar hot water systems work by using the sun's rays to heat water, which is stored in a collector unit on the roof. Two types of solar hot water systems exist: evacuated tube systems and flat plate systems. Each type has a different price tag based on the features it provides. A basic system could run you anywhere from $1,000 to 4,000. Additional plumbing, backup heaters, and switches for the system control system can also increase the price. The number of solar panels will also determine the cost.
Most systems need professional installation and can cost between $4000 and $8000. If you choose to install the system yourself, the cost can be as little as $2,000 for a single tank system. For two-person households, a single tank can generate approximately 125 litres of hot water. The final cost of your solar hot water system will depend on the size of your collector, the cost of installation, and the cost of the small-scale technology certificate.
Maintenance of a Solar Hot Water System
In order to keep a solar hot water system working at peak performance, it is important to periodically inspect the system and its components. It may be necessary to replace components or repair problems that arise from weather conditions. It is also important to keep the system protected from corrosion and scaling. Regular maintenance should be done in order to minimize system costs and avoid future problems.
The first step in maintaining a solar hot water system is to check the plumbing. Poor plumbing can cause excess moisture and corrosion in the solar hot water system. It can also cause problems with valves and pumps. When a technician checks your system, they will also check for leaks and possible wear and tear in the seals. Any loose or damaged plumbing is detrimental to your system and home. Additionally, licensed technicians will check the insulation of the wiring and piping. Older systems may have degraded duct and piping insulation.
Rebates Available for Solar Hot Water Systems
Solar hot water systems are a great way to save money on energy costs. These systems use the sun to heat water and use collector units on the roof. There are two types of systems available - evacuated tube and flat plate. Both are extremely efficient and have numerous advantages. Solar hot water systems Gold Coast will save you a great deal of money over time.
There are several rebate programs available to help you save money on your new solar hot water system. Some states offer incentives for energy efficiency, and some manufacturers and suppliers have rebate calculators available online. You can also take advantage of the federal government's solar rebate program. Depending on the size of your new solar hot water system, you can receive a 30% federal tax credit on the cost of installation.
Choosing a Solar Hot Water System
Solar hot water systems use the sun's energy to heat water. These systems use collector units mounted on the roof to collect the sun's rays and store the heated water in an insulated tank. This water is then available to use as needed. This solution is particularly appealing to people living in sunny and warm climates. Because it uses free solar energy, running costs are low compared to other options.
Solar hot water systems may cost a bit more upfront, but they can save you money in the long run, and the upfront cost can be offset by government rebates. These systems have solar collector panels and a storage tank, and a four-person household will need four square metres of collector space. You should also choose a system with a large storage tank so that you can take advantage of less sunny days.
Certified Solar specializes in providing solar energy and energy storage system installations for commercial and residential projects. We transform our clients’ energy needs by helping them drastically reduce and eliminate their electricity bills, aiming for the maximum return on each investment.
