what kind of music do YOU listen to

I’ve kind of realized that i’m mildly picky about what I listen to? Either that or it’s just bc I am extremely dependent on what kind of vibes I’m in the mood for + if whatever song fits said vibe

According to spotify my top genre was broadway, which I don’t completely agree with bc I have a friend who would 100% say ‘no you loser you aren’t that into broadway’ but also she’s just into show tunes way more than anything else. Ig it’s a vibes thing more than an actual ‘this has been shown on broadway’

Though I do love musicals, i’m kind of basic since I’ve only ‘watched’ hamilton (disney+ version when it was turned into a movie). But i’ve listened to some of the more popular songs from Dear Evan Hanson, Heathers, Be More Chill, Legally Blonde, and others that are just popular songs. A few years ago I watched a TON of animatics so I think that’s kind of where it came from.

Another thing that’s not as vibe specific is orchestra/band stuff. I love love LOVE when a live orchestra and/or wind ensemble gets incorporated into music. Cody Fry was my top artist this year, and basically all his songs have an orchestra in it minus his older albums and ITS SO COOL. I play clarinet (and bass clarinet) so that’s where that appreciation comes from. I also just like, wind ensemble music. Gustav Holst (second suite in f major) is a piece I played last year and I absolute fell in love with it. Samuel Hazo is also a super good composer and he has a gigantic roster. I played two pieces of his last year, ‘Arabesque’ and ‘Solas Annes (Yesterday’s Joy)’ Going back to Holst I can 100% appreciate his planets suite.

For that kind of music though, it helps if i’ve played the piece cause then I’m like ‘hehe I know this and THIS SPOT WAS SUPER HARD ARGHHHH’ but music is super fun.

OH ALSO I’m a choir kid (basically just a fine arts kid in general) so i’ve listened to some choral pieces too just cause I like how they were performed and I like how they sound. I’m a band kid first and foremost though.

Also I listen to a lot of game soundtracks, bc instrumentals are just peak, and they vibe pretty easy since I mostly listen to soundtracks that i’ve played before. (Minecraft, Omori, Stardew Valley, Breath of the Wild, Undertale, Deltarune, etc)

1. Cody Fry (this man has such an array of songs, he goes from funk to pop to overture-esque songs and he’s just kinda epic)

2. Omori (video game that has my entire heart, the story is so AHXISJJXD and the music is awesome. Nowadays I listen more to the breakcore side of the soundtrack but all of it is peak)

3. Bluey (LMAO I forgot about this one. Like the albums on spotify? Crazy good. Taxi is just super fun bc there’s a lot of saxaphone where there’s a GROWL solo and I love that stuff fr)

4. Coyote Theory (vibes, that’s pretty much the only reason. Yeah ‘This Side of Paradise’ is good but THERES MORE THAN THAT.)

5. Toby Fox (Video gAmes. Fun fact I think it was last year or two years ago that I was in his top 0.01% of listeners xD)

RANDOM FUN FACT: Choir kid = I know my range, and my best range is alto/contralto range and the two artists that actually do the lyrics part of music are in that so it’s also bc they’re super singable for me. (ofc I can go higher than that, but I don’t like the sound of my head voice :’) )

One of my favorite things about musicals is just listening to the music will give you a fantastic view of how that scene goes a lot of the time, because musical numbers in musicals, by their very nature, have to drive the plot along (Vivziepop actually mentioned that this is why there aren't many solos in Hazbin Hotel).

For example, I've never seen Heathers (don't come after me, everything I know about it is from the Wikipedia page lmao) but a specific part from Meant To Be Yours (specifically, about 2:00 to 2:37 in the World Premiere Cast recording) is all over animatics featuring abusive relationships (and I definitely get why, especially after listening to the full song). But listening to the entire song you can tell what's going on so fucking well. The song doesn't show up until act 2 (and it's one of the last songs in act 2 at that) and I want to watch Heathers because I want to see the build-up to Meant To Be Yours.

The soundtracks of musicals are so fucking underrated honestly. There are some musicals where you can get the entire story just listening to the soundtrack and it's wonderful (I think Hazbin Hotel is a good example of this honestly).

I love your OCs so much, I just read the Ocean Idiots for Idiots doc and I love all of the lore! Like so much detail! I want to read/watch/consume media the hell out of this. When I first watched the dismemberment song animatic I saw, I think his name is Charles? with the decorative fin and I thought Heather (an absolute girlboss I love her she could step on me) had captured a merperson or used some amalgamation of parts to make herself mer-hunter bitch 2, but I love the idea that they keep mementos a mocking gesture, oh god the detail I love this ansnjansnsnsnndnsjdnd

Also because this is an ask I feel obligated to ask a question, so, where did most of the names come from? (Also also, are you okay with fanart? I’d tag you in and the other creators in it, and a story tag if you have one?)

Hello! I'm glad you enjoyed the lore! We worked hard to make it coherent and I personally had fun putting it together!

Yeah the idea of Charles being a frankensteins monster is interesting, but Heather isn't really interested in the reassembly process if you know what I mean. She likes to take apart. They (Charles and Heather) are assholes and I love them dearly.

As for the names, they came from a litany of places! For gods and such I tended to look up names that held some sort of meaning. Looking up moon words for Samira, Sun words for Aphelion, etc. For the more human characters I just kinda... look at a keyboard, pick a letter and try to find a name that suits the vibe.

Lastly, absolutely! We adore fanart and would love to be tagged in it if you make it!

Top five stage plays or musicals you’ve seen, want to see, or just think are neat.

5. Legally Blonde!! It's such an upbeat show and I love the soundtrack to it. The movie is such a feel-good thing for me, and the musical takes that and amplifies it. I also like the way they gave Vivian more character. They did way more with her in the musical than in the movie, which made her friendship with Elle at the end make more sense.

4. Heathers. Okay, this is mostly because I love the music in this, some of the jokes actually make me laugh and the songs give me ideas for my OCs and animatic ideas in my head, but it's also the show that the drama club at my community college was supposed to do. It was the first time that I stepped on stage since my senior year of high school, so I was really excited for it -- even if it was an ensemble part. Unfortunately, though... this was in the beginning of 2020. Around March, everything was moved to remote learning. Though we tried to figure out a way we could be safe and rehearse, it didn't work out and the show was cancelled. I was and still am really disappointed about it, though I don't talk about it much since my sibling's high school graduation was that year and I didn't want to overshadow their problem with my own.

3. Wicked. It's a classic, and it was the first show that I saw on Broadway. My aunt took me up to New York and we saw it as my sixteenth birthday present. It was amazing and a great day, so I usually associate the show with that. That, and I can't watch The Wizard of Oz the same any more because of it. I know it was based off of a book series, so I do want to read those at some point.

2. The Spongebob Musical. HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE, ALRIGHT?! The soundtrack is killer and there are so many themes going on in this show that you don't even realize at first because it's Spongebob. My theatre teacher also took the seniors in her class my senior year (myself included) to go and see it on Broadway. We got hit with a storm just as we arrived at the theater, and my friends and I got stuck eating dinner at a McDonald's where I had the saltiest burger of my life. But everything had died down by the time the show started and it was great. I usually associate it with spending all that time with my friends, too.

And now for my favorite musical of all time.

It's actually the only one on the list that I've seen multiple times in person, even if a few of them were a high school production that my sibling was working on their senior year. For those who don't know it, it's about a guy named Charlie trying to save his family's failing shoe factory, and he ends up teaming up with a drag queen named Lola to create boots for drag queens since theirs end up breaking so easily.

The soundtrack is so upbeat and hits in so many different places and the show sends such a great message about just being who you are, and how you can change the world just by changing your mind and accepting others for who they are... I fell in love with it.

heathers é um dos musicais favoritos desse bostinha, e ele adora fazer animatics para ele, sempre tentando fazer #metalinguagem, principalmente em relação a forma como as heather ficavam controlando a veronica e todos os outros estudantes. mas ele também é muito interessado no JD, então não é surpresa que a música favorita dele é meant to be yours, até porque ele adora gritar o “VERONICA! open, open the door, please” 

2. DEFYING GRAVITY from wicked.

essa foi uma das primeiras músicas que oz já ouviu, e o apresentou para o mundo dos musicais, então ele tem um carinho muito especial por ela. quando ele começou a fazer animatics, foi um dos primeiros, mas recentemente ele refez o seu animatic dessa música e é um dos mais criativos, deixando de ser apenas um animatic para uma animação própria, principalmente a parte final onde elphaba começa a voar.

3. NONSTOP from hamilton. 

essa é a música ele nunca OUSOU tentar fazer um animatic, apenas porque... oof, muita informação, muitos personagens, muita mudança de cenário, apenas muito muito muito, mas não deixa de ser uma música que ficou no repeat por MESES e se tocar hoje em dia ele ainda sabe a letra de cor. 

4. CELL BLOCK TANGO from chicago. 

novamente, nunca terminou o animatic dessa, mas ele fez da sessão que ele mais gosta (spread eagle!) e tem bastante orgulho. a música inteira faz ele ficar num mood muito especifico, onde ele sente que pode matar um homem! sim a música é sobre empoderamento feminino, mas vai, ele pode se sentir um tico empoderado também... por favorzinho. 

5. NEVER ENOUGH from the greatest showman. 

apesar de sentir HORROR em relação adaptações de musicais para cinema, the greatest showman não é uma adaptação então... ele gosta do filme, mesmo que ainda se sinta um tico culpado por isso. de qualquer maneira, never enough realmente toca ele, o faz ficar emocional e mexe com o seu lado romântico de uma maneira intensa. geralmente músicas românticas não tocam muito o oz, mas essa em especifico o deixa emocionado a nível de querer casar no mesmo instante.

Musical Theater - in love with Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Heathers, and Six (which is criminally underrated, BTW). I’m kinda mixed on Be More Chill. 

My friends actually deterred me from musical theater because they quoted/sung/talked about Hamilton NON-STOP (I promise I’m not this annoying) - Cut to Hamilton dropping on Disney+, and now I’m Hamiltrash

Dear Evan Hansen was the first musical I actually got obsessed with after reading the novelization.

Saw a “Candy Store” and then “Beautiful” animatic & now I’m part of the Heathers fandom

Heard Annapantsu’s cover of “All You Wanna Do,” thought Six sounded interesting, heard the Aimie Atkinson version, fell in love. Then heard “Don’t Lose Ur Head” on Spotify - Became a hardcore fan after hearing those two songs 

I wanted to like Be More Chill because out of all the musicals, the plot of BMC sounded the most interesting. I like some of the songs (mainly “Be More Chill Pt. 1,” “A Guy That I’d Kinda Be Into,” “Michael in the Bathroom,” and “The Smartphone Hour [Rich Set a Fire]”), and everyone’s (both OG Cast & Broadway) vocals are great, but a lot of the songs aren’t doing it for me

Musicals to get into: Beetlejuice, Mean Girls (I enjoy “Meet the Plastics” though), Hadestown

Animation (too bad I can’t draw) - say what you want about Disney not putting in any effort with their movies anymore (live-action remakes and garbage sequels, I’m looking at you), Disney TVA is still as great as ever (and other non-Disney animated shows are obviously great as well) Animated fandoms:

i think people don’t like the red eyes specifically with c!wilbur because he’s canonically mentally ill and it comes across as demonizing him/treating him as pure evil for his symptoms/actions? but that’s mostly with the added context of people calling him ‘vilbur’ and assuming that Everything he does is manipulation/abusive but not showing that kind of treatment to any other character who has also done shitty stuff like him. Or something like that idk that’s my understanding of it personally i don’t like it/calling him ‘vilbur’, i honestly prefer when he’s depicted as Just Some Guy with funny red sunglasses. do with that info what u will tho

see the thing i have with it is.

1.) red eyes are like One (1) aspect of villainizing him so idk why that specific thing is such a Big Deal when there's plenty of art that shows him totally villainous without red eyes, i legit saw people praising some art for "not being ableist by using red eyes" when the person was using... another ~spooky~ eye design that just happened to not be red. i understand when it has the added vilbur context tho that makes sense

2.) i've never seen people using techno hearing voices and stuff as a reason for him not to be portrayed as a villain?? youd think the fandom would at least try to be consistent?? maybe im just not as exposed to those parts of fandom

3.) i agree that wilbur isn't Big Bad across the board or anything, i love the lil man. but i think that for Every Single DSMP Character there is someone who sees them as a manipulative, abusive villain. i've legit seen takes about Every Single One except like... niki?? where someone was portraying them as downright heartless. he ain't special.

4.) when people were talking about red eyes being ableist i thought they were referring to something with actual real world implications. like i thought it was a bad stereotype relating to people with albinism or something. not even joking. love to hear that its completely isolated to fandom discourse lmao

5.) again i dont think wilbur (nor any other dsmp character) is a set villain either, but i completely understand why some people see him as a villain. its fine. thats fine. its fine

6.) i think it wouldve been really funny back when heathers: the musical's fandom was in its prime, if people applied the same logic to jd. "all the popular animatics by a//nidoodles are ableist! they portray jason dean with red eyes in some scenes, and villainize him even though he had signs of mental illness!!" like omg jd and wilbur are BOTH people who blew shit up while wearing trench coats <3 <3 <3

Not a single coherent story or anything, just the different ideas the snippets give me. All somehow Minecraft related. Some are Team Crafted, a couple are Hermitcraft S7 but more the beginning, some are just Minecraft typical characters (Notch, Herobrine, Alex, Steve)

Just like (this fits in with some other Chicago animatics featuring Sanders Sides folks that I would love to do but never will) Roman committed murder (obvs) and Janus is Corrupt Lawyer and reassuring him that the press will love him and he’ll get off (also the foreign girl in Cell Block Tango is Patton)

1:37 to 1:46 (Dentist): I think I just was thinking Skybrine posing and doing some stupid little dance? Idk a lot of iffy ones in these first two minutes yikes

1:47 to 2:04 (Killer Instinct): I had a good idea for this one! But it’s gone! Oof!

2:05 to 2:23 (Loud): So Bruno and Augustus are standing on either side of Seto (normal) and are singing the song and going to make him join Klub Ice. At the line ‘the less you have to say the louder you yell it’ they pull off his big cloak/robe/whatever and then during the next line they’re somehow (idk Klub Ice magic roll with it) changing his clothes from whatever he wore under the cloak into appropriate Klub Ice attire and then shove him offscreen (idk just this part and the way she sings it gives me hella Klub Ice vibes just like brain? nah fam be loud and sexy and party)

2:24 to 2:52 (Stars): All I remember was someone standing on a rooftop looking out and that’s...just the song.

2:53 to 3:14 (Wait for it): Again I have no idea what I thought at the time but it was definitely angsty (:

3:15 to 3:24 (A Sentimental Man): I know Notch is singing (because evil man everyone thinks is good) and the vibes I’m getting now are either Sky or Steve and I have no idea which.

3:25 to 3:45 (Hey Little Songbird): Herobrine is singing and smoking a cigar/ette and grinds it under his foot at the end to put it out, I think maybe he was singing to Alex? Could also be like TrueMU or Deadlox or something but idk mate

3:46 to 3:56ish (Macavity): It’s about Herobrine who is appearing vaguely in the background making sexy(?) poses and someone else was in the foreground singing at some point??? Idk could be Sky and Deadlox could be Steve and Alex who tf knows not me not today

3:57 to 4:05 (The Pitiful Children): I think I had Herobrine singing to not-brine Sky? Circling ofc but if there was context it’s long vanished from my brain

4:06 to 4:16 (Easy Street): oh hey look hermitcraft It’s from the Head Games and whoever was giving all the cave spider heads is just dancing and a bunch of cave spider heads fall down and then at the end Cleo shows up as SpiderCleo and is just pissed

4:17 to 4:30 (The American Dream): I. Honestly have even less clue than the others. I think this one was always a weird one and honestly after learning a little bit about the source musical idk if I want to mess with that

4:31 to 4:42 (What’s Up Duloc): Ok I love this one it’s evil Notch and he’s just like looking over the world like ‘I’m going to destroy this’ and on the ‘bum bum bum bum bum’ small pictures of the Team Crafted folks in despair at an event pop up on beat like that’s what he’s planning to do to destroy them because Team Crafted strong like I seriously love that idea

4:43 to 5:03 (World Burn): Pretty simple, just Evil Xisuma, cuts on certain beats, whatever he has is maybe like somethign that brings up an admin panel? Or something like that? Anyway just Evil Xisuma being evil and angry what if it was emblazoned with a shimmering red apple on the back like a red version (for Hels) of a Notch apple because I love me some evil Notch

5:04 to 5:31 (Last Midnight): Another one I really really like! Going with some source vibes, like Herobrine is holding Sky’s amulet (he got deadified) and he’s singing it so angrily because his son (adopted because of magic deals but shhh) is dead due to these assholes and the assholes include Mitch (idk I guess Jerome is the ‘Baker’s wife’ here and got fucked over by prince bitch), Deadlox, TrueMU, and I guess Ssundee? Idk it’s just angry and upset Herobrine because people can suck and now his son is dead

5:32 to 5:44ish (Poor Unfortunate Souls): Felt more like an evil Herobrine song to me. He’s doing the deal thing and stuff is emphasized with fire because duh, probably Sky on the other side of the deal because Skybrine yeet, but yeah the fun

5:45 to 6:09 (Meant to be Yours): Deadlox (suitably fucked up because Heathers) banging on Sky’s closet door (Sky is inside because Heathers context) and there’s an image of them standing before a burning building idk it’s just the Heathers song but the bits she takes for the mashup and with Team Crafted boys

6:10 to 6:16 (Johanna): Uhhhhh the singer isn’t shown but I think it was just feminine Alex dancing and then sitting and looking out a window

6:17 to 6:40 (Hellfire for real this time): Notch is standing in a religious looking building and thinking horny thoughts and the object of his lust is also feminine Alex because reasons

6:41 to 6:55 (bits of some of the other songs): Just mini frames of the scenes; at the end the whole screen is Evil X doing his thing

I do not remember as much as I wish I did but hey it’s there

Anyway some of these could work as full animatics for the source song (Loud is a maybe, Poor Unfortunate Souls is obviously doable, Last Midnight is also a maybe, Razzle Dazzle definitely has the appropriateness for a full animatic) but some of them do not because of context and other stuff (Like...most of the ones I wasn’t sure about and then also Easy Street because the rest of it is significantly less fun, What’s Up Duloc has a lot of musical context in there, stuff like that). Idk it was just something I was thinking about again and this was the best way to talk about it all.

Also I thought evil Notch was underutilized and then I found more fics and I am vibing with them like I don’t have a problem with good Notch in fics but evil is so much more fun (then again I love Herobrine as a character because you can write him however the fuck you want sooooo)

Steven Universe Explained through Other Musicals and other Artists

Dumb idea that’s been going through my mind, but I’ve been looking through animatics of Steven Universe. (Which a lot are good. Just look up Steven Universe Animatic on Youtube and you’ll find a lot.) Anyways, a dumb idea I wanted to write out was a list of songs that would match events from Steven Universe. The only rule I have that I can’t use musicals I have never heard of, I can use songs from Artists, I can’t use Steven Universe songs from any of the franchise (Otherwise this would just be a list of Steven Universe Songs), and I will be using songs from Steven’s voice actor since quite a number of them do fit Steven…which kind of sad that the voice actor and Steven have this bond where it’s hard to separate the two. A follow up to the posts about the Nazi art (drawn by a Klance artist), the Pride Parade Klance sign & all those edits where Sheith scenes in canon got turned into Klance ROMANTIC scenes by people who constantly spam “I ONLY SEE THEM AS BROTHERS, BROGANES, THAT’S SUCH A PLATONIC BROGANES SCENE” everywhere.

> Klancers fill the comments section, whining for a Klance version. Misterpoof blacklists the word “klance” from her notifications & deletes all comments mentioning them. Poof’s fans tell the klancers to knock it off.

> A Klancer makes a yandere Klance PORN version of Poof’s animatic, directly advertising it on the comments of Poof’s animatic. (Keith & Lance semi-graphically have sex in this video).
