Albert Wesker in Resident Evil Remastered (2002)
#crimson's gifs: resident evil#resident evil#re#Resident Evil 1#RE1#Resident Evil 1 Remastered#RE1R#Resident Evil Remastered#Albert Wesker#Albert Wesker (RE1)#Wesker#One of the most interesting things I noticed studying the game and the appearences of Wesker throughout is that when it comes to him#He only seems to be fixated on Chris#Hes a lot more confrontational and engaged when Chris confronts him#Notice the little smirk he makes before he turns around to greet Chris at the private residence#With Jill hes more focused on the tyrant and practically bored but hes a lot more gleefully insane (and emotional) when its Chris#Really set up the whole Chris Fixation wesker has quite well imo#I dont like wesker that much personally and yall already gathered i HATE Chris' character but I have to give credit when its due#Its a shame they kinda wasted it#If they are remaking 5 I hope they expand on that more#The post credits in 4r of Wesker watching Chris in Revelations on the screen was another good setup#CVX hooks onto RE1R perfectly and that 4r cutscene also hooks onto that great its just that re5 kinda drops the ball a lil#Because Wesker is blindsided by Chris when thats supremely out of character for the man absolutely obsessed with him#To not know where he is at all times#I kinda believe he only took Jill to make sure Chris would find him eventually#Anyways this is the last character focused set. Last ones are just alternative outfits now which is just Jills 3 alts and cowboy rebecca

Eddie journals his thoughts: Entry #125 - Parental Conversations and Confrontations
Fanonwriter2023 on AO3
Where CANON and FANON collide!
Part 2 is now available on AO3
New Buddie Fanfic - It's been more than two months and I'm still pissed about that BS "Vertigo" storyline because I hated it and I wish TM would have written something better for Eddie. There were several options but he just chose to use some wacky foolery because he likes it instead of considering the audience's response to it.
Eddie journals his thoughts: Entry #125 - Parental Conversations and Confrontations - Eddie journals about his strained relationship with his parents.

Eddie journals his thoughts: Entry #125 - Parental Conversations and Confrontations
5.6K Words; Rated: Teen And Up Audiences
___________
Here's a snippet from Eddie's journal entry that he wrote after his therapy session with his parents.
___________
It’s Friday, November 1st and I’m sitting here journaling about how frustrated I am regarding the therapy session I had with my parents when I should be getting ready for my boyfriend, soon to be fiancé to come home. During the session, my mom said something that was so ridiculous that I responded, “I have moved on” before I even realized it. I’m in love with Buck and I have been for years but the idea of trying to replace Shannon kept me holding onto the past… but I’m not going to do that anymore.
Me and Buck deserve to be happy and we will be. I’ve already purchased his engagement ring and I’m going to propose to him Thanksgiving Day while we’re in Malibu, CA. He doesn’t know anything about it and I have a lot of plans for us because we’re spending the entire weekend in a 5-star hotel. I’ve been working extra shifts to pay for it and Chris’ airplane ticket because he’s going to El Paso with Tía Pepa since we have to work and we won’t get off until noon on the holiday. I can’t wait until I can call him my husband and I believe he’s going to say yes when I pop the question.
I guess I should end this entry on a positive note because my overall goal for inviting my parents to join my therapy was two-fold. First, I wanted to improve our relationship, I mean the one I have with my dad is good but the one with my mom has always been built on a pile of sand that the tide could wash away at any moment and that’s partly my fault because I never spoke up and told her how the things she’s said affected me and my family. The second reason is because I’m in love with the love of my life and I will NOT let my mom treat Buck the way she treated Shannon.
What else did Eddie include in his journal entry about his parents? 👀

Eddie journals his thoughts - Currently 2 Completed Works; 11K Words: Rated; General Audiences: This is a FANON series I’ve created and titled “Eddie Journals His Thoughts” and it will include several journal entries he writes as a healthy way to therapeutically process and work through the thoughts and feelings he had at the end of season 7.  Some of the things he writes will be heavy and emotionally angsty while others will be domestically and romantically fluffy.  As previously mentioned, I HATED the way 9-1-1 didn’t let him talk to anyone about the way he was feeling at the end of 7x10 and it pissed me off when they let his parents abruptly show up and take Chris to El Paso, Texas with them.
Part 1: Eddie journals his thought: Entry #118 - Future Tense - Eddie journal about his future.

The Outlast College AU: the cast
Eddie Gluskin:
Eddie Gluskin (also known as "Ed" or "the groom" in a mocking way) is a failed pre-med student who switched over to fashion design and merchandising and is known for his "retro" style of dress along with his misogynistic behavior. He is a social outcast due to how he acts so despite his good looks and "charming" personality, he seldom ever gets dates or even respect from his other peers (functionally making him an incel). He is "friends" with Frank (although this is mostly just because Frank also happens to live with him) and that is really about it. And despite his bizarre standards for women and beliefs surrounding sexuality: he is dating Val who is the polar opposite of all of what he holds dear.
Frank Manera:
Frank Manera is Eddie's weed-smoking, whisky-drinking, grunge music-loving culinary school dropout roommate. Unlike Eddie, he is a social outcast by choice and actively chooses not to socially engage with other people or things. Frank is probably the most easy-going person you might meet partly due to the fact he is high all the time but also due to his "I really do not give a shit" attitude he has about practically everything. If it is not about his pickup truck, guns, food, weed, or the bands he likes he could care less. Frank is also occasionally seen at Crust-punk bars and other hole-in-the-wall places around MMU despite not being a student.
Val:
Val is a former member of the hyper-religious cult Temple Gate who once held the role of being the "mother" of all of the bastard children of its leader, Knoth, along with the orphans. She was unable to biologically produce children (functionally be a broodmare) so she took on the role of raising them instead. Val escaped the cult when she was 17 and attempted to bring others with her but was unable to. After her escape, she began to hyper-indulge in sex, drugs, body mods, and all of the other things she was never allowed to even talk about while living on the commune. She never got an education and instead opted to continue partying while also taking a job at a Spencers near MMU. She is dating Eddie Gluskin for reasons not fully understood. And despite her new life of freedom and indulgence, she is still on the run from the cult who does periodically attempt to drag her back. She still misses some members of the cult, specifically the children she cared for and wanted to take with her, but also deeply fears being dragged back too much to do anything.
Miles Upshur:
Miles is a journalism student at MMU who also works at the Spencers with Val. He is yet another stoner similar to the likes of Frank only with a significantly more conspiratorial slant. He is best friends with Waylon Park and frequently pulls him into his strange schemes and ventures (like when he goes ghost hunting in abandoned asylums or attempts to prove aliens exist). And much to his friend's horror: he overall lacks a sense of self-preservation and self-control which frequently results in him getting into a lot of dangerous situations.
Waylon Park:
Waylon Park is a computer science major at MMU and the unwitting best friend/accomplice of Miles. He is a lot more timid than his best friend and spends most of his time locked in his apartment streaming video games or working on various coding projects and actively avoids danger/confrontation. He is dating Lisa, a literature major, and is in a pretty steady relationship with her. Due to his more ambiguous appearance, he was mistaken for a woman and thus pursued by Eddie but that was quickly shut down when the truth was revealed and a restraining order was filed.
Rick Trager:
Rick Trager is an extremely shifty business professor teaching at MMU who may or may not be addicted to cocaine. The only reason he has not been fired is due to his tenure at the university.
Jermey Blaire:
Trager's equally as shifty/douchy TA who practically models himself after Patrick bateman.
Chris Walker:
Chris Walker is a former combat veteran going back to school after his time in the service. His exact major is unclear as it has changed several times. But due to his emence size and overall strength he is also a coveted member of the MMU football team. Chris does not have a particularly close relationship with anybody and only happens to know Miles because he had a class with him once (and in turn grew to dislike him as he came off extremely annoying).
Blake Langermann:
Blake is a fellow jornalisim major along with Miles and is a catholic school survivee. Blake is only mildly acquainted with the likes of Miles and Waylon and instead focuses a majority of his time on working on projects with his girlfriend Lynn who is also a journalism major. These projects are usually Exposes regarding local controversies or drama going on (along with the periodic serious human rights/civil rights violation). However, he will join Waylon and Miles on their bullshit adventures from time to time.
Father Martin:
He is the weird guy standing outside of MMU with a large sign only instead of telling people they are going to hell, he warns of the end times and weird ghost demons coming but it is unclear if he is for or against them.
Sullivan Knoth:
Is the leader of the Cult Val escaped from and one of the main antagonists in Val's life. He is functionally the same compared to how he is in the game minus the radio tower frequencies: he is just crazy naturally.
Marta:
Is funtionally the "Sister Cindy" of MMU. She, unlike Father Martin, does accuse all of the students of being whores and tells them they will burn in hell if they don't repent (and do so to Knoth's teachings). She is also the closest immediate threat to Val's freedom and safety outside of the cult given she is still actively looking for her (dubbing her "the Heretic").
Ethan:
The only person from the cult Val is still somewhat in contact with. He is too attempting to escape given his fading faith had the fact Knoth sexually assaulted his daughter and is denying his wife the ability to get cancer treatments as "only god can decide if she lives". He tried to leave with Val initially but had to stay behind in order to at least allow Val to escape and to protect his family.
Billy Hope:
Billy is a highschooler who has functionally adopted by the MMU football team and is "enrolled" at the school a year early so he can play football. His mother, Tiffany, more or less signed off on it due to the hefty sum of money she was offered to allow her son to play.
"The Twins":
Really creepy townies everybody avoids and can usually be spotted with Martin
Pauline Glick:
The asshole president of MMU who may or may not be taking bribes and doing a bunch of illegal shit along with Blaire and Trager
"Mother Gooseberry (Phyllis Futterman)":
Is a washed-up former children's TV host who later became an art teacher at MMU. She teaches several of the more "technical" arts classes such as sewing and technical drawing. However, she also teaches dental classes at MMU although not that many. It is unclear when or if she even got a degree in dental medicine. But given she is only teaching more "anatomy" based lessons and is not actually practicing medicine: it is looked over by MMU administration.
Leland Coyle:
The campus cop who is activly on a power trip, all of the time.
"The Pusher":
The guy who sells literally everybody drugs. Weed, coke, you name it, he has it.

ciara I trust your perspection so much so what are your thoughts on this eddie-less /less-eddie episode?I feel like they have ended the previous episode on such strong feelings that i think people are understandably upset about Eddie's absence in the dream. Thoughts?
ahhhh okay so. from a 'blorbos from my show' perspective, you better believe at least 25% of my brain capacity every time eddie wasn't on screen was thinking where is he asdkjfh like, i definitely checked how much time was left in the ep More Than Once because he hadn't been in it much lmao
but, if i take off my blorbo hat and put on my 'person with an english degree who knows how to engage in critical thinking' hat, i can try and offer you a logical explanation asjdh
so when i was first watching the ep i thought the dream world was sort of paralleling the real world?? as in the person buck interacted with in his dream was whoever was in the room with him irl at the time (like the way it cuts between chimney in his dream vs chimney sitting with him at the hospital)
that idea was sort of proven false bc chris didn't show up when he was talking to him however i do think there's still some merit in it. just because, it seems very clear from that chris/eddie scene that eddie hasn't been in the room much???? and so then that's maybe why buck doesn't really see him in his dream???? bc when eddie brings chris into the room he's Visibly upset. like, he walks chris over to the bed and then walks away as if he can't even watch. hen is mainly the one answering chris' question and eddie is standing at a distance, crying, as chris talks to buck.
so i think that's enough to sort of suggest eddie's maybe not ready to confront the reality of buck potentially dying and therefore didn't feel emotionally strong enough to be there like the others were????
now, i understand it was a very full episode. there's a lot to fit in, all of the characters have a strong connection to buck in one way or the other and they obviously spent a lot of time on the buckley parents that, under other circumstances, would've gone to members of the 118. so i'm not criticizing because i genuinely loved the episode.
however, i think it wouldn't have gone amiss for them to have given us one scene maybe between eddie and hen or something where we were explicitly told or shown in some way that eddie wasn't coping well with it. even just a shot of him sitting in the waiting room looking worn down would've done it, i feel.
i think him not being in the dream - as much as i would've loved an alternate meeting - makes sense in context and helps to emphasise that this world buck's found himself in is wrong. maddie's with doug, bobby's dead and his ghost is taunting buck, and eddie's gone. and idk i think there's something meaningful in the idea that coma!buck lost eddie before he could ever even have him because his impact on eddie right from the very beginning was so significant
also chris saying "can you help me find my dad" is making my brain whir in ways that i can't fully articulate yet askjdfhs
so TL;DR: it would've been nice to have at least one other scene to linger on eddie a bit more the way we got to see them do with bobby and maddie (and even chimney) but also i loved the scene we did get and i need to believe we'll get something more next week for the sake of my sanity lol ❤️

Anime Update V2 36
Wolf’s Rain - We hit the Road To Darcia’s Keep this time, and yes, I say it that way because this episode was literally a road trip starring Hubb and Quent. Was not asking for that, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and really appreciated how these guys play off each other, and getting to see more backstory and perspectives from them. Cher just happening to come along at the end was a bit too convenient, but hey, it sets them on course to rescuing Cheza from Darcia along with the wolves plus Blue who are headed there too.
Hunter x Hunter - It’s the penultimate episode of the Phantom Troupe arc, and unexpectedly the tables seem to have been turned on the Spiders as Leorio, Melody, and Kurapika have taken Chrollo as a hostage, planning on bargaining with his life in exchange for getting Gon and Killua back. Except that Chrollo doesn’t seem the least bit threatened and it’s a struggle for Kurapika to avoid trying to kill him right there and then. Also, Hisoka still wants that fight with Chrollo, and something seems up with Pakunoda. How will this end?
Fruits Basket - I’m taking after @animebw here - after last week’s disappointing episode, I put this anime on hiatus. Until 2023, that is.
Rozen Maiden - Honestly, I’m not even sure I have much words to say regarding the climax of this anime. It has been a ride. I love how Adult Jun’s story has turned out, seeing the closure for Hinaichigo and the twins that the earlier anime was never able to give us felt very rewarding, and good lord I could watch an entire anime all about Suigintou and Megu, their characters and dynamic are that good. This anime could’ve ended right here and I’d be satisfied, but there’s some hanging threads that need to be touched upon in the final episode, so I’ll have more to say on that when I watch it next week.
Fate Zero - As the fight with Caster and his Cthulhu demon beast is underway, we’re treated to a dramatic confrontation between Tokiomi Tohsaka and Kariya Matou, and Ryonouske finally biting the dust with a sniper rifle bullet through his head just as he “discovered” his own beautiful red blood. Honestly, it couldn’t have happened sooner!
Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Real talk: I’ve been liking this anime well enough and finding it good, but I’d not been super engaged with it or found it great. It was always just good enough, but then wouldn’t really stay with me until next time I had to watch it...And then these climactic episodes come along and shit has hit the fucking fan. Genjuro comforts Chris regarding her parents’ tragic death and how her life has gone due to her jaded outlook and insistence on going it alone without any responsible adults in her life, leading to her joining with Hibiki and Tsubasa. A huge Noise attack is launched upon the city with the school being put in danger. Finé shows up in person and throws down with Genjuro (and I LOVE how there was no big reveal that she was Ryoko Sakurai all along ‘cause Genjuro and the rest had that figured out from the start, that was very refreshing!), Hibiki and Miku take their romantic subplot to a whole ‘nother level, and our heroines get a big confrontation with Finé as she brings a fucking tower out from the ground to try and shoot its top cannon into the moon in an effort to basically kill God, with the action culminating in Chris making a sacrifice play and singing her Swan Song. GEE-ZUS, this has gotten heavy as shit and I’m super engaged and need more!
AMC: Code Geass: Akito the Exiled - At long last, I finished what is easily the one Code Geass anime beside the original Lelouch of the Rebellion to come close to being really good. And I say it “comes close” because there’s still a lot of wasted potential here even by the time it’s all over. The final battle was appropriately intense and the snowy backdrop made it fitting to watch this time of year. Shin was just a great villain all the way to the end, with his and Akito’s conflict actually tugging at my heartstrings near the end. Leila had a pretty interesting conclusion to her arc that gives context to her own Geass connection and ties in with the series Myth Arc. Our magnificent bastardly trio got great resolution too (Yukiya pulled through and I love how Ayano disarmed Jean through empathy and compassion). And both scenes featuring Lelouch and Suzaku were golden. Yet ultimately, since R2 was already made and pre-determined how the course of this setting would go, the ending doesn’t feel like anything too big and like a lot of the intrigue from earlier installments just got swept under the rug. Gene Smilas’ entire character ends up feeling superfluous as he gets done in very fast and abruptly at the start of the ending scene. And I feel some characters like Ashley and Jean didn’t get enough time and focus on their development to make where they end up feel right. Overall not great, but just alright and worth a watch for those interested in a unique Code Geass direction.
AND
Adolescence of Utena - Movie adaptation of Utena. Was certainly quite the wild ride. And I do mean RIDE quite literally here! Utena was always committed to be artistic with its symbolism and mind screws, but I could always follow the story well enough. This movie pushes it to the extreme and much of what I saw took me a while to really grasp as a result. There are apparently some fans who interpret this movie as a continuation of the show’s narrative so that the loose ends are tied up and Anthy finally retrieves Utena from wherever she ended up after her big sacrifice. These people are lying to themselves and to others ‘cause this is clearly an entirely different reality where Ohtori Academy is a simulated fantasy that exists in the middle of nowhere on a post-apocalyptic Earth, Touga has a much different, much darker backstory where he ended up dying while still young and so the Touga we see in the present is a hallucinated projection of him, Utena and Shiori were both in love with Touga, Juri is the “prince” of the Student Council instead (and the one whose life Touga died saving), Nanami and Chu Chu only exist in a random comedic video (and Nanami’s in her cow form), the Shadow Play Girls are major players in the events, Akio got nowhere close to being what he was in the series before dying in a random fall out a window and Prince Dios is just an idealized vision of him of Anthy’s own making (sort of giving him what Nemuro/Souji Mikage had in the show), and people can turn into cars. Yes, people turn into cars, including Utena herself in the climax of the movie! That said, this climax of Anthy riding Utena to freedom away from Ohtori Academy is the most famous part of the movie and boy can I see why, it was actually really cool and I genuinely enjoyed myself while watching it. Mad Max: Yuri Road indeed! An overall decent sendoff to the series.

bang chan ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
when upset, he becomes restless and would rather fly far away than engage in an emotionally frustrating confrontation. he can get angry easily and doesn't hide it. people tend to know when he's upset, he can't hide any of his feelings, positive or negative. if he needs to take part in conflict with someone, he does so through blunt and unfiltered opinions. type of person who has an opinion on everything and completely believes in his own morals. usually, he's good at getting people to see his point of view because he's so passionate about what he's talking about. he may be easily irritated or upset by the actions of others. chris almost never takes advice from others. he may have some sort of "guilt complex", tho.
lee know ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
minho has great clarity in his thoughts and actual worldview, suppressing most feelings of anger. for him, it's more common for negative emotions to come from people who don't live up to his expectations, rather than anything else. he sets standards in his mind for how people should behave, and of course people rarely meet those standards. he may be afraid to open up to others and speak up because he fears that people will use his feelings to turn against him and let negativity boil over. as a result, he may have a tendency to suppress anger and resentment, which will only lead to outbursts of intense feelings.
changbin ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
when emotions are involved, he frequently loses control of his temper and overreacts. becoming very defensive about himself, taking things personally and harboring a lot of resentment. when he fails to appropriately convey his sentiments, frustration builds. at times, he may show signs of physical discomfort due to an internal conflict between what emotionally stimulates him and what he feels ready to do. he gets frustrated when he tries to get emotional satisfaction through his will to act.
hyunjin ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
he puts himself first when making decisions and only do what makes the utmost sense to him. having a strong sense of self, he knows who he is and how he should be treated by others. when it comes to wrathfulness, he has quick meltdowns but his feelings of anger tend to subside snappily. he deals with his feelings honestly and face it directly. because he likes to live in the moment instead of in the past. he may display moments of yelling and cursing when dealing with frustrations. yet, he gets over it quickly and don't hold grudges.
han ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
he may have been subjected to some form of harsh discipline as a child (particularly by another authority figure), causing him to struggle with self-expression. no matter how hard he tries to avoid it, he's a reactor. his ego causes him to have confrontations. he despises being taken for granted or ignored. when his pride is bruised, he may be a little dramatic at times.
felix ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
a lot like jisung (twins!!!!). prob had to work really hard to develop the communication skills he has today, as he has a tendency to get lost in his feelings when upset.
seungmin ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
he's logical and practical. he's critical of himself and others, but he despises rudeness and will not go out of his way to reafirm himself. when irritated, though, it might be difficult to be with him because of his proclivity to complain about it.
i.n ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
he has a fiery mind, is opinionated, clever, and sharp-tongued. his disappointment stems from unfulfilled goals, just like minho's. when he expresses himself, he tries to be as direct as possible. innie wishes that individuals would convey their points more quickly. he never plans on searing anyone, but it could occur. when he doesn't feel understood, he might become irritable, and he has a tendency to refuse to admit when he's wrong. essentially, strives to resolve conflicts quickly and in a direct and honest manner.

The Prenup
Summary: After four years of being together and finally being engaged, Chris wants you to sign a prenup.
Tumblr media
Chris Evans x Reader
Warnings: angst, swearing, chris getting his ass handed to him, a lot of pain.
Part Two Part Three Part Four Final Chapter
Tumblr media
Scrounging through the little desk in the corner of Chris and you's bedroom, you hear him let out a boisterous laugh.
He was watching some movie and there was a certain part that he found so hilarious. After 4 years of watching it with him constantly, you still don't get what's so funny. But it makes him happy so that's what matters.
You were searching for the wine opener so Scott could get his middle-aged-4-kids-divorcee vibe on. You cleaned the other day and stuck it in there after a nightly dose of freakydeaky from Chris, which consisted of wine, whipped cream, and a many different forms of chocolate.
After what seemed like forever, you find the corkscrew and grin at your accomplishment. You take one more look in the drawer out of habit and you spot a big orange envelope with Chris' name on it. Being the nosy curious person you are, you take the envelope out and get a good look at it. You see the words Prenuptial Agreement in bold and your heart drops.
Chris had proposed to you 9 months ago and you were happy beyond words. After being together for 4 years, he finally put away his commitment troubles and made you his fianceé. And now you find out he's going to get you to sign a prenup. A fucking prenup.
You look around the room at loss for words. You were angry, hurt and confused. After 4 years of being together, he doesn't have faith in his own judgment that you guys would be together forever? You both have been through literally everything. There isn't one thing you don't know about each other. Your relationship was rare and it was special.
After moments of contemplation, you decide you would confront him on it. There's no way you could carry on the night and sleep after this. Not until you get your answers. Closing the drawer, you take a sharp breath and exhale before walking out the room. You get back to the dining table where Lisa and his siblings surrounded.
"Here you go Scott" you say slamming the corkscrew on the table in front of him. He looks up at you, puzzled. You glance at him then at Chris and he's looking at you just the same. Evidently your tone matched your movements because everyone went silent. You draw back and put both hands behind your back and huff.
"Babe, are you alright?" It was Christopher talking to you now. Your attention goes to him and your lips are in a thin line. Refraining from blowing up at him, you force smile on your face and change your tone of voice.
"What do you mean, honey? I'm fine." You should leave the acting to Chris honestly. That's definitely not your field of expertise. Shifting on your right foot, you stare at him. He shuffles and tilts his head with a knowing look.
"Spill it Y/N. What's up?"
"The flames when I burn this damn house down." So much for not blowing up. You snatch the envelope in front of you and chuck it on the table. Everyone watches the exchange and the envelope fly to the table. All their faces change from confusion to shock and even more confusion.
Chris didn't even need to look down to know it was the prenup. His eyes went from you to the wall. Guilt written all over it, you almost wish you gave a shit. You wonder how long he was going to keep this hidden from you. No need to wonder now.
"You want to explain to me why you have a prenup?" You place your hand on your hip and roll your neck at him.
"I got that for us."
You swear to everything you wanted to lunge at him right then and there. 'I got that for us'. Why do people always use that excuse for everything? They weren't thinking about you, just themselves and expected you to go along with it.
"You got it for us? I know you didn't do this on your own. Who put you up to it?" You look around the room. Scott has his hands up shaking his head. Carly and Shanna both let out a quiet "not me". You look at Lisa who had this look of hurt.
"Chris, you tell me everything. How did I not know about this? Why didn't you tell me?" Well now you know she didn't suggest it. You feel slightly guilty for letting it cross your mind, but you had your reasons.
"Ma, I had my reasons. I kept it hidden because I didn't know how I felt about it myself" he says rubbing his face and fixing his hair under his cap. Still didn't answer your question.
"Christopher, who put you up to this? Tell me now!" You're getting fired up by the minute. You have an idea who it could be too.
"Megan. She thought that it would be smart to consider. Just to protect me."
"Megan." Your voice is laced with absolute venom. "You know Chris, she does a good job keeping you out of trouble and bullshit so you're not all over the tabloids, but sometimes, her ass is too much!"
Chris is never in the news for anything negative. He's always minding his business and moving quietly. Megan is a great publicist, but she can be pretty overbearing about his personal life. She gave you side eye for like the entire first year of you guys' relationship.
"Baby, she was just looking out for me. You know how it is, women getting with you for your money. Guys loose half of everything they have when getting divorces."
You can't even believe it.
"I am not 'women'. I'm your fianceé. We've been together 4 years, Chris! After all this time your material things come before me?" Tears are puddled at your eyes now and your voice is cracking. This catches his attention.
"I told you from the start Chris, that I never cared about your money! Never have and never will. I am used to not having much. I'm not money hungry or concerned for having top tier everything. I've learned to settle."
"Y/N, I didn't mea-" you slam your hand on the table, making everyone jump. Chris shuts his mouth.
"I'm. Not. Finished. I am not marrying your bank account. I'm not marrying your cars. I'm not marrying your house. I don't give a damn about any of that shit. And you literally are still concerned about all of that?" Your face is wet and your nose is runny. You wipe your nose and cross your arms.
"It's not even like that!" Now he's getting upset. For literally nothing. This is his fault. "It's just in case it doesn't work out, we don't need to deal with all the extra mess."
That completely shattered you. In case it doesn't work out. He actually has thoughts that your marriage couldn't work. What would even cause that? You guys don't even argue. You don't even remember the last time you did. You've learned to understand what each other needs and mastered that. What is he on about?
"You know what the sad part is? Us not working out crossed my mind in, like, the first year of our relationship. And I decided that if we did get married, and God forbid we divorced, I wouldn't take anything from you."
He looked at you like he just found out he wasn't the father of your baby.
"Yeah, Chris. That's your money. You made it, not me, so why would I ask for any of it from you? You gave me an amazing relationship and thats enough for me."
"Oh my goodness." Everyone directs their attention to Scott. "So you wouldn't want anything from the divorce?"
"Of course not! I came in this relationship for him. Plus a make my own money. I don't need anyone else's."
You had your own business. Many employees at different buildings in Boston. You didn't have much growing up and you were proud of yourself for not having to worry about financial issues. Chris liked that you had your own thing going and didn't have to adapt to his life and depend on him financially. And he still got a prenup.
Feeling like you were gonna cry again, you rub your temples and take deep breaths to prevent it. But you failed and started crying more. Chris got up and moved to stand in front of you.
"Baby, I'm sorry I upset you. I thought you would be okay with this. Like you said, you don't care about my money so what's wrong with the prenup?" His hands were on your sides, but not for long as you shook them off of you.
"What's wrong with it? What this is telling me is three things. You have doubt that our marriage won't work out, you think I might change my mind and ask for alimony, and that your money comes before me."
"I..." he struggles to form words. You take this chance to get out of there.
"I really don't want to be here right now." Chris looks up and grabs your arm.
"Babe, you don't need to go. Where the hell are you gonna go?" You turn and grab the envelope from the table. You open it and pull the papers out, shoving it in his face.
"I'll go to a hotel or something, but I'm not staying here if this is the shit you're trying to pull with me." You turn the paper to you and look in disgust. You scan over it and your eyes fall on the dotted line where you need to sign. Beside it is where he needed to sign his.
Well not anymore.
You read over his signature on the line. Chris Evans.
He signed the prenup already. Now he was just waiting for your signature. He really was leaving you zero choice.
"You signed it already??" Everyone at the table head snapped up. Shanna gasped and covered her mouth. Lisa mumbles an "oh no" under her breath.
"So you were just going to bring it to me and expect me to sign it with no fight, huh?"
Chris says nothing, but his face is red. You don't wait for a response and walk to your shoes and your bag. Already having everything in there, you slip your shoes on and walk back to Chris.
"Just a heads up, you brought this on yourself."
You whip around and walk to the fireplace. You chuck the papers and envelope in the blaze and turn back to him.
"You can forget about that damn prenup, cause I'm not signing it. As a matter a fact, you don't even have to worry about that because there won't be a chance of us divorcing." You force a smile and clasp your hands together. Lisa and Scott rise from the table panicking.
"Babe, no-"
"Forget the wedding, this engagement and all of it. You can take this fucking ring too." You pry the ring off your fingers and throw it at him. It hits his chest and falls at his feet.
"I'm not marrying you."
You turn on your heel, grab your purse and jacket, walking out the door, leaving the Evans' speechless.

Was this too dramatic? I have my own opinions on a prenup, but maybe it's not as big as it seems? Idk🥴.

John Steinbeck once said 'One can find so many pains when the rain is falling', you had never understood that phrase, never until that very moment. The drops seemed to descend fiercely, crashing firmly against your face, you hardly realised at what point the intensity of the rain had become so extreme, as you continued to be completely blocked from contemplating the face before you, and time never stopped.
The red brick of the Victorian houses, decorated with colourful flower boxes, seemed to create an idyllic scene of which you two were the protagonists in that narrow alley, but neither of you noticed. Words that could not now be erased from your mind had come out of his mouth, a mouth that was at that moment half-open as if it wished to express something else, but did not. You had had to deal with enough events in your life to know how to deal with any new moment that came your way, at least you thought you had, but you would never have thought you would have to face this. A dilemma opened up in your mind, but also in your heart, you were sure that you loved Chris with all your heart, you had loved him for as long as you could remember, he was your childhood friend, you never knew when your feelings became romantic, he didn't know either, but you had your assumptions.
Anyway, that love had never gone away, and it was never going to go away, it was going to be there for the rest of your lives, but things were not as simple as they might seem. Your love might have worked during your adolescence, during your youth, but when things got serious, somehow or other the relationship didn't move forward. There were no third parties, no cheating on either side, just different paths. Each of you had your own dreams that pushed you further and further apart, so far apart that you decided to end the relationship, which was not in the most amicable way possible.
The last two years were difficult for you, your smile had vanished from your face, but Garret appeared to give it back to you. You believed again that love was possible, and of course, although you always used to keep Cjris in mind, for which you used to blame yourself all the time, life seemed to be much simpler. Partly because of that, and because you loved him, you had accepted Garret's hand a month ago, but unfortunately you couldn't help imagining Chris the moment you said 'yes, I want to marry you'. And now there he was, Chris, in front of you, telling you that he was still in love with you and you could barely say a word because you had no idea how you felt, you didn't want to hurt anyone, you didn't want to suffer or anyone else to suffer because of you, but apparently it was too late.
Raindrops slid down your face, wiping away tears that you barely realised were flowing from your eyes, which were staring into Chris's. The radiant rays of sunshine had disappeared, bringing gloom to an autumnal morning, only the sound of the thunderstorm could be heard. The radiant rays of sunshine had disappeared, offering the gloom of an autumnal morning, only the rumbling of the storm could be heard. Chris finally lowered his face, nodding to himself, as if he had assumed defeat by not saying anything in the situation.
"Alright," those words came from inside him with a sigh. "I guess there's not much more to say," there was a moment of silence, in which he offered you one last chance to speak, but you could not. "All the best Y/N."
The lump in his throat that had been present since Chris had left his feelings open was massified when you heard your name forming on his lips. Before he turned away and continued on his way through the alleyway, he returned his eyes to yours in the hope that you would take control of yourself and stop him, but again you didn't. So you stood there, letting the rain wash over every part of you. So you stood there, letting the rain wash over every part of your body, watching as his figure gradually disappeared until he turned the corner and you lost him, lost him completely.
You had lost track of time since you left that coffee shop, you were stopped in that place for minutes, until your lower limbs mechanically carried you back to the car, where you remained silent for fifteen minutes. Your senses didn't seem to react, perhaps because you didn't want to feel, because you knew that if you felt you would be capable of doing something crazy, which would surely hurt someone a lot and you didn't want that to happen. His words played over and over in your brain, you glimpsed the blue of his eyes, the smile as you entered the cafeteria, his scent flowing into your nostrils, and his touch as you snuggled into his arms. It was like an internal torture that you couldn't get rid of, that you didn't really want to get rid of. Because who would want to get rid of the love of their life?
It was when the moisture on your face dried up that you realised that the wateriness of your eyes was not because of the raindrops but because you were broken. That revealed a large part of your feelings, your true feelings, which you had kept hidden, you loved him, with all your heart, as you had never loved anyone else, you had loved him for as long as you could remember, how could you not continue to love him?
A click made you connect again and brought you back to the real world, maybe your emotions were running high, but for once in your life you decided to act in the moment, leaving rationality aside, which had not allowed you to act before. You started the engine of the car, you knew perfectly well which direction you were going to take, you had travelled that road so many times that you hardly had to think about how to get to his house, where you hoped he would be. Your heart was racing and your adrenaline was pumping, but your hands around the steering wheel reminded you of that engagement ring on your left ring finger, causing you to slow down and stare at it. What the hell were you doing? If you did what you had in your mind two options were open to you, one was to make the biggest mistake of your life, the other was to win back the love of your life by breaking Garret's heart. Whichever you chose, someone would lose out.
Cars overtook you on the left as you kept wondering what to do, while the sky was still overcast and the rain was pouring down. Time became your enemy again, causing you to arrive in front of Chris's house without clearing your mind. You felt like you were back in the coffee shop, wondering whether or not to go in, whether or not to confront Chris. You turned off the engine of the car and dropped your forehead on the steering wheel, you could hear the drops falling hard on the roof of the car, which seemed to help you relax, strangely. You turned your face, staring at the front door of the house through the window, completely wet. The cafeteria had been a neutral place, this house was not, too many memories enveloped those four walls to go inside and not be affected by it. You were lost if you went in there, you knew what was going to happen and that you were going to let your feelings take you.
As if you wanted to give it one last chance you looked at the engagement ring that Garret had given you a month ago, you hoped that something would tell you that the best thing to do was to start the engine of the car again and get away from there as soon as possible, but it didn't. So you played your last trick.  So you played your last trick, a very dangerous one, you asked yourself the same question that Chris had asked you and that you had answered systematically without thinking, were you happy, does Garret make you happy? Then you knew. The next thing you did, you did it with all the pain in your heart, but you needed to think about yourself, the future you wanted, who you wanted to spend it with and most importantly, you wanted to be happy, so there was only one possibility.
Looking at the ring you slowly pulled it off your finger, your eyes started to water, you wanted to do it differently, but Garret was thousands of miles away, so you did what you felt at that moment. Again the rain came down on you as you stepped out into the open, but you didn't care at all, your gaze was fixed on that white door that was going to open the way to your past. As you walked steadily you let the air invade your lungs giving you the strength to face what was about to come. A faint light came through the curtains of the window that overlooked the living room, that erased the doubts that invaded you in case he wasn't at home, and without knowing why your heart skipped a beat.
There you were, a metre between you and his door, a single gesture away from letting him know you were there, and you did it, your index finger approached the doorbell, a squeaky melody sounded inside the house, and you took a step back, marking a distance for when the door opened. You looked down at your hands and fiddled nervously with your fingers, which were dripping from the rain. It was thirty-six seconds before you heard the lock turn and the door open, presenting the figure of Chris before you. You looked up nervously, not knowing what gesture you were going to get from him, but what you could glimpse was a state of confusion and hope mingled in his eyes. You parted your lips, still playing with your fingers.
"I..." was the only thing you could say before a lump rose in your throat and your tears wandered and mingled down your cheeks.
You turned your face and placed the palm of your hand on it, as if to hide the fact that you were crying. At that very moment, arms wrapped around your body and pulled you inside the house, making their body heat and that of the interior of the room cover your body. You broke down emotionally, you knew it was one of the things that could happen, too many emotions to keep them all hidden inside you. So soft sobs began to come out of your throat, you kept your eyes closed and your forehead resting on Chris's chest as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer to his body.
"It's okay," he murmured against your head, letting out a sigh. "I'm here. I've got you."
After those words he placed a kiss on top of your head and then rested his hands on your cheeks, pulling away from you a few inches to search your face with his gaze. That was the last thing you wanted to do, because you felt confusingly embarrassed about the situation that was happening, he knew it, he knew you hated crying in front of people, but it was him after all. Chris gently lifted your chin to force you to look at his face, where there was a longing smile on his lips, but you averted your gaze, causing his smile to widen and he moved closer to your forehead to kiss it before he hugged you again.
"You're completely soaked," he whispered. "Come with me, the fireplace is lit, I'll get you some towels and some dry clothes."
Again the proximity was broken, but not the contact, Chris intertwined his fingers with yours, realizing something, you saw how he looked at your intertwined hands and then stared at you with his lips parted as if he wanted to ask, but he didn't, he preferred to ignore it. Your steps took you to your memories, when you entered the living room it was inevitable not to think about the times you both had occupied that sofa, or the times you had made love on that carpet next to the fireplace, it was an open diary.
"Make yourself comfortable, I'll be right back," he said, unlacing his fingers and heading upstairs via the staircase.
Your decisive mood with which you had left the car had collapsed at the mere sight of him, the little plan you had improvised in your mind had been cut short, putting you back on your own in the face of destiny. But what you were really sure of was what you felt, at least it was something you were sure of, it was him, only him, at that moment looking carefully all around you you realised that you never wanted to live again without him in your life, in whatever way it was, because in truth you were also in love with him, although you had tried to erase him from your mind during those two years.
His footsteps coming down the steps made you alert again, Chris entered the room holding two folded towels in his hands along with a sweatshirt you knew perfectly well and a pair of sweatpants, he stood in front of you.
"You can go and change in the bathroom, or if you prefer in the bedroom," he said offering you the set of items, "you know where everything is... if you want to give me your coat, I can put it in the dryer."
You nodded softly, still looking into his eyes, the warmth of the fire in the fireplace to your right washed over you, and the shadows created a pleasant ambience against the darkness outside. Slowly you undid each button of your coat and removed it from your body, offering it to Chris who took it in his free hand. You didn't know what happened in that instant, whether it was the intensity of your gaze, or the silence that was only broken by the raindrops and the sparks from the firewood, but you didn't stop. Just as you had undone the buttons on your coat you began to undo the buttons on your blouse, Chris's eyes shifted from yours to your hands and every movement they were making. As you finished you let the soaked blouse fall down your arms and onto the carpet, exposing your bare skin, covered only by a black bra.
In those moments, Chris's limbs seemed to be locked as he continued to hold the clothes and towels in his arms, still looking at your body with a look on his face that you couldn't describe. You offered him a few seconds of time to see how he reacted, but he said nothing, your hands slowly moved to the button of your trousers which you undid without looking away from his face, unzipped the fly and pulled your legs out through his thighs, leaving him again next to the blouse. That was the moment when Chris let everything he was holding fall from his arms and without a second thought he wrapped his hands around your body, pulling you closer to him, breaking the tension of the moment, wrapping your lips around his, kissing you as if his life depended on it. A gasp came from inside you as if the physical contact you were having wasn't enough, as if your chest was going to explode from one moment to the next. He brought his hands to your face pulling you away from him, needing to look at you to make sure that what was happening was real and not one of the fantasies wandering through his head.
"Don't stop," you murmured feeling weak as he pulled away from you.
As if on direct order Chris closes the distance again, but this time gently, caressing your lips tenderly, but the wetness of his lips and the roughness of his beard causes a moan of need to be reborn within you. His hands roam over your bare shoulders, gently down your arms, resting on your hips, as yours rested on his neck, preventing him from pulling away from you again. You felt small shivers of pleasure with every touch of his fingers on your skin, you knew that the situation would go as far as you wanted it to, that at that moment you had the reins, but really you had already lost them a long time ago. You dropped your hands until you reached the top of his sweatshirt which you pulled up indicating your need for him to disappear from his body. Chris acted, exposing his body to you.
Your fingertips scanned every nook and cranny that you thought you had lost, that you thought would never be yours again, but there they were before you. Chris brought his lips to your neck, making you lose your reason for being again, as he caressed your back and took the liberty of unclasping your bra, causing it to fall to the carpet. You knew then that you would never tire of the fluidity of his tongue running along your collarbones until it came to rest on your breasts.
A contraction arose in your intimacy making you realise the need you were exploring for him at that moment. Without hindrance you took it upon yourself to undo the button of his jeans that slid down his legs revealing his need for you.
"You can't imagine how many times I've thought about this moment," he mumbled against your lips, undoing his trousers as best he could.
His arms curved to grasp your thighs and encircle his hips, letting your naked bodies collide, that movement alone an action that brought you to lie on the woollen carpet. The softness of his fibres and warmth enveloped your back, as Chris's lips trailed across your belly while your panties trailed down your thighs until they disappeared from the scene. The shadows wandered between you, the fire seemed to want to be part of the moment and you appreciated it, it was warm, but no more so than his lips resting on your centre, sliding his tongue between your folds, making you lose your composure, letting him know the pleasure you were feeling at that very moment. The throbbing in your core began to intensify as his tongue brushed against your clit, until you could take no more and became a prey to your own pleasure, calling out the culprit's name over and over again.
But before you could even relax, before the throbbing could stop, you felt Chris want to be a part of it and gently thrust inside you, causing a deeper moan from both of you to fill the room. It had been too many years together, you knew to the millimetre the sensations the other person experienced, what made them feel the most pleasure, what they liked. Chris loved to feel your throbbing when his tongue made you orgasm around him, and that was a sensation he extrapolated. Inside you, however, he just felt you around the stiffness of his member, he barely made any movement, he just kissed your neck, lying on top of you, waiting for the calmness to take over and transport you back to paradise.
"Move, please," you begged, hoping to prolong the moment of pleasure you had just experienced, preventing him from leaving at all.
His movements began delicately, keeping himself propped up on his elbow while his other hand cupped your hip. Having him on top of you, the two of you lying on that carpet which had been part of your love on so many occasions felt like you had travelled through time. His ragged breaths came against your face, you wrapped your legs around his waist so that the depth of his member was greater. You could feel the rapport between the two bodies, the need to have each other again. Nothing seemed to matter in those moments, you felt his movements erase all the worries that were present in your mind, the only thing that mattered in those moments were the two of you.
His lips were pressed to yours, letting out gasps as his movements increased in speed. Your fingers were lost in his hair, as you kept your eyes closed, exploring how the pleasure continued each time his member slapped against your inner wall. And you felt it, his stiffness swelled inside you, you knew that's what it meant, he was close. You opened your eyes to find that his gaze was focused on you, that he was waiting for some sign from you that would prevent him from carrying out his release, but you merely trapped his lips between yours and placed a hand on his hip to keep him going.
A much smaller free fall than the first one you had felt engulfed you next to him, his moans projecting your name into the inside of your head, his movements becoming irregular and deep, making your bodies move across the carpet.
Calm, after a few minutes, came over you, making you feel the burn of your back from the rubbing of your nakedness against the carpet, making you feel the dampness of your hair still present and the flush of his cheeks from the heat of the fire in the fireplace. After Chris came out from under you and settled right behind you, you curled up sideways facing the fireplace. You felt his lips kiss every part of your reddened back and his arm went around your waist pulling you to him.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he placed a kiss on your bare shoulder.
"I think so," you replied contemplating the sparks from the firewood.
Fortunately you didn't have to project your feelings, he knew how you might be feeling right now, though he didn't get half of what you were really going through.
"I think you know that," he began in a soft tone that matched the atmosphere, "but I need to tell you that I love you," there was silence, as your torturous feelings came over you. "I know your head will be a complete mess right now, I don't want to burden you, I just want you to know that I'm here, that I'm still in love with you and that I intend to never part from you, if you'll let me."
Vulnerability came over you as you heard those words, you felt like you were a child again and you were faced with a decision you weren't capable of facing, you just wanted to feel protected, so you turned your body and came face to face with Chris. His legs wrapped around yours, agreeing to an even more intimate moment if that was possible. When you looked up into his face his smile was waiting for you to relax, to make you see that he was there with you, that everything was okay.
"Everything will be fine," his voice was confident, warm, his voice denoted the future.

Post Grondor Field AM Analysis
I'm prefacing this by saying that I'm still not sure I can write a good analysis of this scene for two reasons:
1. I don't know what comes after, and
2. I'm very emotionally involved in what happened.
But I tried my best. One thing is for sure though, what happened in Grondor in AM was an incredibly significant turning point for AM and Dimitri and my thoughts and analysis on it will definitely expand as I keep writing about and playing the game.
Part of me is just so happy I got to see Dimitri's supports, have the inevitable turn around, and get to do things like tea and dinner time again that it's hard to be objective about this scene.
And by "this scene," I don't mean that actual fight at Grondor, but everything from Fleche's attack to Byleth's words in the rain later.
It wasn't all about Byleth . . .
Given how poignant Dimitri's character arc has been so far, I had a deep rooted fear player-pandering would ruin it. Byleth, as a concept, isn't bad, but too often the heaps of praise feel underserved and other things (like Claude's intelligence, Edelgard's relationships with everyone else) get ignored to make more room for player-pandering.
Thankfully this did not happen. Byleth, throughout the early chapters of AM's part 2, failed to reach Dimitri. And, honestly, seeing Byleth actually struggle for once has done wonders for how I view her character. Still, I worried that player-pandering-power, rather than something that felt earned, would cause the inevitable eye-opener for Dimitri.
But it wasn't just Byleth. Fleche's vengeance kicked everything off, what veered Dimitri away from his fate in other routes. He accepted his death at her hands, not bothering to defend himself. Rodrigue stepping in the way and his parting words forced Dimitri to confront things he'd ignored. Throughout AM so far, people have posed questions to Dimitri who refused to answer them because he didn't want to face what they asked. But Rodrigue dying for him, spending his final words telling Dimitri to live for himself - combined with Fleche's attack - forced Dimitri to confront things he avoided. It wasn't until after all of that when Byleth steps in.
And Byleth didn't "fix" him either. Dimitri's supports show a young man who's still very much struggling with his mental health, poor self-image, his previous actions, and wondering if he deserves not only to live for himself - but if he even deserves to live. Byleth didn't hand-wave Dimitri's problems away.
Everything about the scene is stronger because it didn't fall back on player-pandering, but more earned, realistic, and dramatic actions and consequences - including Byleth's involvement which felt far more earned than usual because of prior failure.
But I wish Dimitri's friends played a bigger role.
Not everything was perfect though. I wish we got a little more than we did from Dimitri's house mates - especially his childhood friends Sylvain, Ingrid, and extra special mention to Felix and especially, especially Dedue.
Throughout all of AM, none of the above mentioned characters feel utilized to their full potential. This isn't a problem exclusive to AM, and by all means it's far from the biggest offender, but given how close all the ties are in AM, it's felt when it's not there.
I still don't know what exactly I would've done with them. Maybe I'd need to make the game an actual novel to do it, and you can't forget how perma-death has historically held back games at times, limiting major moments to a select few "retreat" candidates.
Still, though, getting a bit more from Ingrid, Sylvain, Felix, and Dedue would've made the scene even more powerful.
I actually really liked the scene in the rain.
I haven't made it a secret that I dislike Byleth. Or maybe disliked is more accurate. Lately I've been rethinking my stance on Byleth, in part because I've heard from people who like her or found ways to make her work and from my own thinking about the game while planning future write ups.
I don't think it's Byleth I really dislike, but the player-pandering. Separating the two isn't easy, but it's easier since I've starting coming around to seeing Byleth as her own character.
There's been a few moments that made me care for Byleth, and this scene in the rain was one of them. Because she didn't just fix everything. She tried and failed for months to reason with Dimitri, and despite everything she never gave up on him or failed to keep offering her hand.
I'm not going to lie. I got all the bubbly, heartwarming, heartbreaking feels the writers wanted me to in this scene. Seeing Byleth reach for something and fail, and then finally, finally get through was rewarding in a way many of Byleth's prior accomplishments aren't because this one felt earned. And by God did she earn it.
Some people will likely disagree with that last point, but I disagree with them. She asked Dimitri hard-hitting questions, forcing him to come to unpleasant conclusions rather than trying to force him into anything. She kept Dimitri from veering to far off course, even at expense to herself when she killed Randolph. She saved Dimitri from Fleche when he refused to save himself. She quietly supported him, coaxing out the good she knew was still there and refused to give up on.
I'd never in a million years say someone in real life should put up with Dimitri's toxic behavior and verbal abuse, even considering his extreme trauma and aggravated mental illness. But seeing someone fuck up so badly still get forgiven, still get supported, still struggle but honestly change for the good, still get loved, start to accept and forgive himself through the power of love and forgiveness from others is very powerful, especially since media so often downplays those "softer" things as weakness in comparison to the "badassery" of ambition and stoicism. Using Byleth, who previously had little experience with feelings, who was encouraged to experience them in healthy ways by Dimitri, return the favor isn't really the worst choice.
It's cliche, but cliches aren't always bad.
The mentor dies. Redemption in the rain. Revenge against the protagonist's actions opens their eyes. Etc . . . This scene was chuck full of cliches, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Tropes serve an important narrative purpose because a writer can rely on them to convey a message to the audience that either saves time or sets them up for something unexpected or even expected. Fire Emblem has always and will always be incredibly cliche and full of tropes. It loves tropes so much there's in-universe ones that make some unit or character discussions sound like a foreign language to people outside of or new to the fandom, talking about "Ests" and calling someone a "Camus."
What matters is if a story pulled something off well, not if it's terribly unique. A mentor dying is powerful because it forces the student to grow. Redemption in the rain is high symbolic of water washing things away + the somber atmosphere rain creates. Someone trying to get revenge against a character provides an eye-opening experience about the ripple effect of their actions. We see these things in fiction all the time because they work.
All the tropes worked like expected in this scene. Using images instead of cut scenes did make less of an impact, but more on that later.
Tl;dr: There's nothing unexpected or terribly unique about what happened. It was honestly painfully predictable, but that doesn't make it bad and is in a series that does this all of the time.
The voice acting carried because those images can't.
A major downside to this scene is that it used vague images instead of a cut scene. I get that budget and time were likely concerns, but many cut scenes from earlier in the game seem rather trivial. Did we really need that dance one? Really? I don't think so.
This was a hugely important, action heavy moment. Using one or two still images to convey everything that's happening and all those emotions, really makes it less than it could've been.
That said, the voice acting saves it. I've raved about how amazing Chris Hackeny is as Dimitri, so nothing new here. Rodrigue's and Fleche's VAs also did a fantastic job. No one oversold or undersold the emotions. Even without the cut scene, you felt what happened thanks to the skill of the actors. This scene would've been so much harder to engage with without them, if this was an older FE game where all you got was text. This is 100% one of the moments highly elevated by the decision to have a fully voiced game and choosing high caliber talent (let's not talk about Radiant Dawn's voice acting).
Questionable support timing.
One issue I had came right after the scene when I viewed Dimitri's supports. The nature of some - like his with Raphael and Alois - didn't quite line up with the character I saw in dialogue right after. I wish they staggered them a bit more or got picker about what you could get in part 1 or 2.
This isn't limited to Dimitri either. In the same support batch, I also got a Marianne B support where she still had no confidence or self-worth. And then like 10 minutes later I talk to her in the monastery and she mentions about how seeing all the death in Grondor made her value her life even more.
In the past, I've also received entirely valid opinions that Dorothea in part 2 is hard to understand because she's cherry and flirty in her supports, and morose and hates the war in her monastery stuff, making her seem inconsistent.
It's a bit jarring. It's not really an issue for characters who don't change much like Edelgard or Raphael, but even for characters with more subtle differences than Dimitri, Marianne, and Dorothea - like, say, Lorenz - you get a lot of weird stuff because of supports. I just think Dimitri's stands out because he's a main character with a really prominent, important turning point for his growth.

solar opposites s1 & s2 that I noticed (it’s out of order)
Korvo thinks a kiss is how to do an apology, Terry thinks that getting mexican food and salsa is how to do an apology, but like he knows that Korvo has a thing for mexican food, you know with the taco tuesday thing in s1, which I think it’s sweet.
Korvo fake died falling into a blackhole and Terry died falling out of the ship. Soulmates or what?
Korvo gets stabbed by terry, terry gets stabbed by a tree. Both are plants
Terry does a lot of things for Korvo, like study manuals and doing the taco-tuesday thing after he fake died, which BTW Korvo manipulates Terry into doing, AND he uses time travel to manipulate him. He regrets changing Terry because Terry is out to kill him now. In the end, he likes Terry better when he’s not psychotic
When the red goobler shows up in s1, terry assures korv that he’ll be okay and also spends his day helping Korvo hunt down the red goobler, and then lied about killing it when it escapes so Korvo doesn’t stress out
Terry spends the day trying to catch a rat for Korvo so that he doesn’t get killed by the red chris goobler
When Korvo wanted to be included in the dinner parties, Terry hesitantly invited him, but only because Korvo forced him to do it. Then at the end, Korvo gets what he wants and they have a dinner party together at home with the replicants, pupa and the nabadoodles
What has Korvo done for Terry? Like one thing, use the specs Terry suggested in making patricia, but like they both agreed on it because they both like it, so does it really count?
I think the reason why he doesn’t do anything for Terry is because maybe Terry doesn’t show that he wants Korvo to do something for him. Thus the passive aggressive angy boi.
Korvo seemingly gets what he wants though manipulation, i.e magician fake death to get the others to care about ship stuff, threatened to thanos the planet for an invite to the dinner party, used time travel to change Terry
S1 Korv and Ter do things together. S2 they do things separately, which Korvo mentions and Terry explains why
Omg i have a theory. In s1 and s2, Terry cares about Korvo. What if in s3 he slowly separates himself from korvo because he recognizes that Korvo cares more about himself? But like, Terry is insecure, so would he even mention it? Would he be able to do it? I mean when Korvo left to be with the other aliens, Terry said he’s a piece of shit without him. Is he reliant on Korvo?
When Korvo is around, he’s the one who’s doing the cleaning and managing around the house which gives Terry an opportunity to do nothing/whatever he wants because he knows Korvo will handle everything. With Korvo around, Terry doesn’t have responsibility because he wouldn’t need to.
Korvo and Yumyulack do cocaine more than Terry and Jesse.
S1 Korvo and Terry were like best friends/boyfriends, they were close. S2 they feel like a couple who’s been together for too long and they kinda lost value in their relationship but they’re still trying
What we know about Korvo so far (Might be more, these are from the episodes so far):
Likes to make fun of humans
He’s manipulative
Petty
A slut
Does orgies with Terry but doesn’t engage? And bebones fish
Likes to watch/listen to super boring things. I like to think it’s because normal movies make him cry.
Falls in love? After sex? Willing to get married after one night of fucking
kinda cares for Terry
Likes his alone time with Terry away from the replicants
realized he likes his replicants
Doesn’t like it when he’s being disagreed with
Tugs Terry around
likes to be emasculated
Isn’t as chaotic as yumyulack
Likes it when Terry is agreeable
Only likes being with his team because he’s the one leading it and they make him feel valued
Likes it when his family is miserable without him; makes him feel needed
Wear blue makeup
Literally does something extreme to get what he wants
Would rather get killed by the other shlorpian than have Terry and Jesse die because of him
Not as insecure/self-loathing as i thought he would be
Deserved to be stabbed by Terry, but needs to be stabbed some more
Constantly calls Terry dumb and stupid
Gets lonely without Terry around
Even though he hates parties, he still wants to be asked if he wanted to go even if he says no
Expresses how he feels, like saying he and Terry haven’t had a night out together for a while
Banned dinner parties because Terry doesn’t spend enough time with him
What we know about Terry:
Likes to make fun of humans but with his family
Insecure
Likes to get drunk, usually drunk
Can outsmart Korvo
Isn’t intimidated by Korvo
will defy Korvo if he gets in the way of what Terry wants
Clever when he really needs/want something
Can’t form own opinions
Passive aggressive
Likes/allows himself to relax
Doesn’t express how he feels
Would confront Korvo if he was being a dick
Is a romantic, likes romance
Doesn’t fall in love after sex
Probably engages in orgies
Just wants to socialize and be around people like him.
Wants to be liked… maybe because he’s insecure?? Maybe that’s why he doesn’t hang out with Korvo as much anymore because Korvo belittles him, but Korvo is like “No, WE have to hang out.”
Repressed
Shallow
Somehow remembers pathfinding but not stuff about the pupa
Gets shit on a lot for no apparent reason
In s1, he freely wore his robe open despite not caring what other shlorpians think, but in s2 he can’t form his own opinions? Y’know, if Terry can’t think for himself on shlorp then he would’ve done the same things they did and not open his robe. What if Korvo made him that way?
Doesn’t like to be called stupid
Calls himself stupid and lazy
Doesn’t think anything will change the way he is
Gets distracted easily
Doesn’t tell Korvo about going to dinner parties because he already knows he hates people and parties
This season shows how much of a piece of shit Korvo is, then in the future season we get development. Also I really want Terry to realize his worth then go off on Korvo about how he always made him feel like shit, maybe during a climactic moment. Korvo apologizes but Terry doesn’t accept it because Korvo isn’t sorry about what he did, he’s just sorry for feeling bad about it.
Then Terry tells Korvo that he hates him and Korvo actually gets hurt by this.
Now it’s Korvo’s turn to feel like shit.
For reasons like this, shitty qualities of a character, is exactly why I love Korvo. Dunno why. Horrible characters have the potential for change, redemption OR pain.
It’s gonna be one of those, “you know what you have until you lose it” tropes

I see we're going ape over buddie and Choices tonight so
Yknow in 2.07, when Shannon comes back and her and Eddie have their first scene together? The argument at the end, after Eddie says it wouldn't be a good idea for her to see Christopher bc she left them, she says she needed him, she needed a husband and a co-parent - and "I needed someone to have my back!"
To which EDDIE says, "I always had your back"
*insert Incredibles "coincidence? I think NOT" gif here*
(Also side note, I do like that the show doesn't try to sugarcoat what Shannon did being messed up, and that Eddie's own actions weren't really the right thing either[thinking about his conversation with Buck where he says he got to pretend he left for a noble cause even tho he was running], and that it was just a sticky situation that neither of them were equipped to handle in any way, and snowballed. I do kind of wish we could've gotten post-divorce Shannon and Eddie and Christopher interactions, figuring out how they fit together, if at all, bc I like those intricate and messy situations but I could see how that might get too close to retreading old ground re: Michael and Athena's divorce. But I do hate how ive seen the fandom like. Seem to oversimplify things with Shannon sometimes? And make her the ultimate villain, and Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, Ever)
Hi Anon!
The decision to have Buck and Eddie's first bonding moment end with "You can have my back any day" and "or, y'know, you could have mine" only to then six episodes later find out that at least a contributing factor to Eddie's marriage dissolving was that he "didn't have her back" is like. Such a galaxy brain chaos move for them to take, honestly. Like?? They could've had the phrasing be literally anything in 2x07 but instead they had it directly echo Buck and Eddie in 2x01. What was the reason? Why did they do this?
As for the rest of your ask:
(gosh this got long and, uh, opinionated. It is Not Pretty below the cut)
One of the things I really liked about Eddie Begins is that we did get to see him at the beginning of his journey in being Chris's dad because it gives us an opportunity to appreciate how amazingly he's grown as a father. Like, he didn't start out as a perfect dad and he was definitely kind of lost in the woods at the beginning there when it came to the whole "how do I parent" thing. And before Eddie Begins, we'd only ever seen the end result of the growth he's gone through, where he really is a fantastic dad whose son is basically his entire reason for being. Before Eddie Begins, we get to hear him say things like "I left first" and "I've failed that kid more times than I can count but I love him enough to never stop trying" but we kinda have to take that on faith? Because we hadn't actually seen him be anything besides a good dad until we saw his Begins episode. (And even then in his begins it's like "area man in his early 20s unsure how to care for small child while also coping with PTSD and a toxic support system" which like. yeah. no shit. there's one hell of a learning curve there)
The thing about Eddie and Shannon as a couple and as parents that always gets to me is that they were so fucking young. We don't know exactly how old Eddie is in the show, but we can guesstimate pretty safely that he's around the same age as Ryan which would make him between 23 and 24 when Chris was born, and it seems reasonable to believe Shannon was around the same age. It's also a pretty common reading in the fandom -- although I'm not sure how much canon support there is for it because we really, really don't know anything about their relationship pre-Christopher unless I'm forgetting something -- that they got married because Shannon got pregnant and that was the Done Thing. And when you're 23-24, baby on the way, freshly married, that is just like. So much. It sure as hell ruined my parents' relationship when they did that exact thing, and then they disliked each other until they were 27 and then they got divorced, and no one was happier than me about it, I have to tell you.
Back to the show, I can only give you my impressions, obviously, but the impression I have always gotten from the whole "I left too" conversation and the context that goes into it and the different behaviours we see exhibited by the characters is that Eddie "left" first and it comes across to me that he was basically an early twenty-something kid running scared from the abstract concept of being a father in general, and then when he was forced home by an honourable discharge, and was confronted with the reality of Christopher, he managed to step the fuck up and become Christopher's dad. It's there in 2x02, right? "Oh, you've got a kid? I love kids!" "I love this one." Eddie doesn't strike me as a Swiss Army Knife all-purpose Dad(tm) the way Bobby is. Eddie is Christopher's dad. (and like, of course, he's obviously moved by kids when he's on a call, we've seen that enough times to know that if there's a child who can even glancingly remind him of Christopher, Eddie's sense of self-preservation goes out the window, and I love that about him as heart-stopping as it can be in practice)
Shannon, on the other hand, didn't run from the idea of being a mother -- at first. When she left, it wasn't from the abstract. She left Chris (and "gave up" on Eddie, thanks Helena). She was not running from a concept, she was running from a reality. I think Shannon is a fascinating character to include in a television show as a side character, because she really isn't a one note character. Like, she was unarguably a bad mother, and from what we saw, she was a questionable romantic partner to have (but as you said, anon, Eddie was also not 100% the best romantic partner when he was with Shannon either; their entire relationship so far as I can tell was built on sexual chemistry which, uh, super does not sustain a relationship), but she also seems to have been a devoted daughter? I mean, yeah, it's entirely possible that her mom being sick was a convenient excuse to bail -- and obviously she didn't come back after her mom died, and didn't, y'know, contact her son or husband in the interim, so yes, I can see that being a valid way to read the situation. I don't think she's the Ultimate Evil, because she strikes me as a very human character in all the ways that people are more often than not really fucking flawed.
But then we get back to the actual break-up scene. The first time I watched it (and second, and third; then the fourth time the person I was watching with was like "I mean, sure, but it could also be read in this light") her "I'm just learning how to be someone's mother" speech really bothered me? Partly because it was the abstraction of it, right? Eddie doesn't like kids, he likes Christopher, and Shannon sort of had the inverse journey there, I guess, where it went from she didn't know how to be Christopher's mother, to she didn't know how to be a mother. And that speech bothered me because it always sounded to me like she was bailing again. She begged Eddie to let her back into Christopher's life (guilt? I guess?) and like, straight up bribed him with sex which was sure a choice, and then decides -- for a second time -- that she's out. It sounded, to me, she was handing Eddie papers and maybe, in a few years, possibly, once she'd had "time" to "figure out how to be someone's mother" she would try again. Just like she had in the interim between leaving when Christopher was little and the time of season 2.
And like, that could totally be a misunderstanding of the scene and what she was saying. It's what I took away from it, but that could very well be influenced by the fact I was raised by divorced parents and my dad had custody and if you count up all the time I spent with either parent when I was a minor, I was predominantly raised by my father and have had an especially tempestuous relationship with my mother that is mostly (sometimes) repaired now that I'm in my late twenties and have not lived with her since I was sixteen.
Back to the show, and to your comment that the fandom tends to treat Shannon like the Ultimate Evil and act like Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, I mean. Yeah. Fandom as a rule tends to shirk nuance. We're all fools here on the internet sitting in our blue industrial waste container crying about a wee woo show. I personally believe a more nuanced take on that might be that Eddie has shown a great capacity to learn from his mistakes (sometimes to make fun, shiny, new ones, but for the most part, just like ends up doing better the next time) and Shannon did not show that capacity in the time we knew her.
I think, depending on what they did with it, there was potential for an interesting storyline if they'd played through the divorce. I don't think it would've been rehashing ground covered by Michael and Athena's divorce because I can't see Eddie and Shannon having reached a point of amicability and friendship. The only thing we know they had in common was Christopher, and frankly, when you boil it down, the ways they engaged with Christopher as a person were so disparate that -- to me -- it really didn't seem like they had Christopher in common when you get right down to it. But I wouldn't have wanted to see Christopher and Eddie dragged through an ugly divorce process. They deserve better than that.
There's also a conversation to be had about Shannon's blatant ableism towards her own son, but that is extremely not my lane since I am not disabled myself. But even from an outside perspective, basically their entire parking lot conversation in Haunted, uh, haunts me with it's repugnance and the fact that instead of calling her on any of it, Eddie "Chronically touch starved" Diaz's response was to kiss her? Gosh golly do I wish that was one of the mistakes he learned from properly instead of finding a new, shiny version.
ANYWAY this got long, tl;dr (although if you clicked on the read more, you probably read it) version is No, Shannon is not the Ultimate Evil, she's a shitty mom not a demon in a skin suit and a pretty yellow sundress; and No, Eddie is not a flawless human who's never done wrong in his life but holy fuck is he trying and he'd be the first person to tell you he's made mistakes (and often has been); and no, sorry, I don't want to see the divorce storyline play out because we probably would've had to see either Eddie Bashing, Shannon Redemption, or Shannon turning up again like a cardboard cut out of a cartoon villain the way Eva did and I want to be witness to exactly zero of those things.

Teen Wolf, Season 1 rewatch thoughts.  These are mostly for me, feel free to ignore.  Or engage.  Just know I do not play favorites and these thoughts are VERY random.
Thematically:
The ultimate theme in this season really seems to be the intense self-centeredness of the teenage person.  Everyone is so incredibly caught up in their own feelings and experiences they really can’t see beyond them.  Stiles puts Scott through it when his dad gets hurt.  Scott threatens literally everyone when he chooses Allison over any sort of logic.  Jackson and Lydia are so intensely insecure and committed to not admitting it that they tear each other apart in incredibly horrifying and cruel ways.  Derek is so haunted by his past he can’t trust anyone.
I remembered Stiles saying Scott should let Derek die, but I couldn’t remember the context.  It all makes a very lot of sense when it comes at a time when Derek has allied himself with the alpha who has actively killed a lot of people and tried to get Scott to kill Stiles and all his friends.  Yeah, at that point, it makes sense.  And Stiles withholds the information about Derek taking Scott’s phone until Peter blackmails it out of him, so he was actively not wanting Derek free or okay in any way.  I have a hard time thinking Stiles has romantic feelings about Derek at this point.  Attraction?  Maybe.  There maybe have been some earlier in the season when they started to trust each other a little bit, which probably added to the amount of hurt he felt when Derek went dark side. I think we start S2 with Stiles feeling pretty neutral to negative on Derek. I was just reminded of the scene where Chris goes after Scott and Stiles confronts him about the Hale fire. Kid is terrified but also brave (or stupid) as hell. Has an overdeveloped sense of justice he prob got from his dad, and from having lost a lot, young. I’m not sure it was a defense of NOW Derek tho. More of a complete lack of trust re: hunters with Scott.
Since my current fic is Stiles centric, I’m concentrating on him to a large extent.  he went HARD on Scott, and dangerously so, too.  Getting strangers to beat him up was incredible dangerous to the strangers, as well as pretty miserable for Scott.  Lobbing lacrosse balls at him was at least only a danger to Stiles, but it was pretty harsh.    It shows that Stiles priority is definitely his father first.  He would do anything for Scott, but not if it hurt his father.  It’s a recurring theme, and I think it’s vital to his character.  I think it’s interesting, too, that he declined the bite.  I think power is important to Stiles, but Peter had too much sway over Scott, and was clearly not to be trusted.  I think potentially it was more the source than the actual bite.
Derek can only see the world through what he’s experienced, which is betrayal and violence and callousness.  his anchor is anger.  He can’t trust himself to see the truth of anyone’s motivations, and he can’t trust humans in general.  He definitely can’t trust, and is probably pretty contemptuous of, someone who would make the mistake of falling for an Argent.  Honestly, I’m really surprised he worked so closely with Scott, considering how much he hates himself for falling for Kate.  I would have thought that hatred would extend to Scott.  But he consistently tries to save him, and not only when he thinks it will lead him to the Alpha.  Would Derek have killed Jackson?  Scott says not, but I think maybe, yes.  Jackson was a weak link, and Derek would have a pretty low tolerance for threats, I would think.  He kills Peter for power, the way Peter did Laura.  That requires something thinking about. Peter did it for revenge, Derek did it for...his life?  His territory?  Is there enough in Beacon Hills at that point for him to stick around to face the alpha pack?  That actually seems like an odd choice, to stay and fight.
There’s a lot of meta/writing about Scott being a bad friend, but I don’t think he is.  No worse than anyone else, for sure.  I think he’s self-centered like the rest of them, and he’s in love, and he’s trying to do the right thing with what he’s got, which isn’t much.  He spreads himself too thin.  He has the best of intentions and not great follow through.  His anchor is love.
They’re all imperfect, all of them are some degree of shades of grey.  They all have the ability to be petty and a little cruel.  I think that’s important.  So much of fic brushes that off, but I think it’s important to understanding the show.
I feel slightly a little more for Peter at this point.  Not enough to like him, or want to read any redemptive takes on him, but vengeance is a common theme in this show, and guilt, and overly broad assumptions about groups.  Peter is power hungry and vicious and will hurt anyone who gets in his way.  I could chalk it up to a bit of insanity from the fire and the aftermath, but later flashbacks show that, no, he’s actually vile before the fire, too.

Enola Holmes in Review
Tumblr media
Gentle Readers:
1.       I did not plan to watch Enola Holmes
2.       I do not/have not watched Stranger Things, and my entire concept of Millie Bobby Brown as a human is encapsulated in the occasional errant tumblr post, and a line of eyewear she apparently has created, posters for which hang at my glasses-provider.
3.       I had never heard of the YA novels about Enola Holmes
Tumblr media
There she is!
Yes, I do tend to enjoy nearly any incarnation of Sherlock Holmes. And, yes, I am often surprised by this fact. For some reason, Holmes, unlike, say, Chris Evans as Cap or Chris Hemsworth as Thor [instances where I can’t really imagine enjoying anyone else in the role] I am always interested to see someone else’s [writer and actor and director]’s take on him. *Subtle shout-out to James D’Arcy’s 2002 turn in A Case of Evil.
Tumblr media
Mr. Jarvis! [and there was Vincent D’Onofrio and opium!!]
And yet, watching the Enola Holmes trailer [no doubt b/c of tumblr], and yes, admittedly not unmoved [we are not made of stone] by Cavill’s Curls™ the delight I felt in watching that advert led me to start informing my family that on September 23rd what I was going to be doing was enjoying Enola Holmes on Netflix [and anyone else was free to join me].
Tumblr media
Someone important is missing from this picture
And what a delight it was. In the run-up to its debut I read more than a few reviews of the film [and, I think, every one of them written by men], some of which struck me as simply coming from a place of mean-spiritedness, yet none—even the positive reviews—preparing me for how ENJOYABLE this film is.
I’m not going to provide a full review point-by-point here, b/c the film involves cases to be solved (no, none of them are overwhelmingly complex—YA novel--, so all the more reason not to spoil any pay-offs). But I do have some things to talk about.
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM – And what a nice, nice elephant it is! Henry Cavill as Holmes is, in my opinion an absolute delight of a performance. From the moment he first says Enola’s name (a perfectly-rendered reaction to the moment playing out) this Holmes fits into this Greatest Showman-like version of Victorian England, where no one’s too dirty no matter how poor, and where despite a flaming red dress, cut too low for daytime wear, young Enola is never once mistaken for a working girl. [Again, YA novel] As other reviewers have noted, HC is, well, Cut and Bulked Out, and in his highly tailored frock coats well, strapping is too light a description word. *not a complaint. Cavill’s Curls are out and proud and here to tell us that we are meant to be Having Fun, and Gentle Readers—THEY DO NOT LIE.
Tumblr media
No, not a priest’s collar where he is undercover (though I had thought so)
In fact, you could absolutely write your thesis statement on this film, that it’s really a fraternal, familial love story between Sherlock and Enola. Sherlock is the character during the two hours that actually changes. [Yes, Enola comes to an understanding about herself, and her circumstances change repeatedly—but it is Sherlock who experiences a Change of Heart/Reversal].
Tumblr media
Raise your hand if you’re totally here for significantly older brother/significantly youngest sister family love!
HOW I WOULD DESCRIBE IT – This might in no way be helpful, but, Enola Holmes is basically The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles...
Tumblr media
Where have you gone, Sean Patrick Flanery?
a YA historical storyline that’s written adjacent to [there, famous people] here, enduring fictional characters. It’s adventurous and pleasantly immersive, historical morays are given a slap-dash portrayal, rather than a fully-accurate representation, there’s adventures to be had, and side-characters to be converted into caring about the title character as much as we, the audience, do.
LUCY HONEYCHURCH – Yes, that gorgeous girl from Windy Corner. The timeline doesn’t jibe, but I daresay Helena Bonham Carter (back in a corset—though she may have worn those for Bellatrix) as Eudoria Holmes *IS* what Lucy Honeychurch might well have become beyond A Room with a View’s end. Bonham Carter looks absolutely at home here (period films have sorely missed her! –she had a part in 2015’s Suffragette), and still wears the trappings of Victorian England like a second skin.
Tumblr media
Not to mention that she now join my personal comfort-list of on-screen mothers with the likes of 1997’s Little Women Susan Sarandon and Cinderella’s Hayley Atwell.
FAMILY ISSUES OR PLOT HOLES?
Tumblr media
It’s a fair question. There’s a lot going on in this plot, some of which...seem solvable. Why has it been so very long since the Holmes brothers have seen their own mother? And sister? How could the woman we come to know as Eudoria raise a Mycroft? [see also, Molly Weasley?] Why aren’t people who seem to care about Enola more engaged with saving her from all the dangers London throws in her way? Why does Enola accept several acts of violence aimed at her, why does she in certain instances Do What She Is Told? Rather than chalk these up to plot holes or convenient devices, I’m siding with the Holmes family being dysfunctional [who knows what dad was like? We’re certainly not told here].
Tumblr media
[clears throat]
The conversations between Mycroft and Sherlock barely skim the surface of any subject they interact on. Classic dysfunction: distancing one’s true self from human interaction b/c keeping the peace supersedes all else.
Tumblr media
Enola accepts certain treatments b/c if we really do watch her relationship with her mother, there is an element of something amiss—as I will declare the later abandonment shows. Enola is a child used to being elevated and celebrated on one hand, and shut out and isolated on the other. Her parent has informed her about so much, but essentially locked her away in a false reality, where Enola is not taken to see the world, nor taught how to interact in it (which is explicitly stated). Perhaps it is not so surprising that the Holmes’ brothers have not cared overly much for visiting their remaining family. And when repeatedly confronted with a minor child (and yet a child likely though old enough or about so, to be married off) being forced to endure things diametrically opposed to her will—the brothers’ reactions are stoic, the system they accept as to how life must be lived immoveable and morally right simply by its very existence.
MILLIE BOBBY BROWN – THE STAR – In what has to be an Emmy-nomination-deserving turn, MBB is nothing short of wholly in charge of the screen. She never overpowers the story. She’s as loveable as Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping, and as ready for her closeup as Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. As another review mentioned, she handles the 4th wall breaks in such as way as we look forward to the next time she’s going to talk to us. We ache with her sorrow for her lost mom, and rage with her at the adults in her life choosing wrongly for her future—or simply not choosing at all.
A random observation, but one that feels important to me: her HAIR. Yes! They’ve managed to make a late Victorian-era film where the heroine’s hair looks like real hair that someone really styled (or in some scenes, didn’t). And yet, where the hair looks proper for the time. [wild applause]
Tumblr media
COMPLAINTS: Well, in honesty there aren’t any. If you want to complain that there isn’t any dirt, that the evil of the world (I mean, c’mon, this is narrowly post-Dickensian London, here) is neutered, that the adults in question seem neither alarmed enough or emboldened enough at either their mother or sister being missing and possibly out of their depths in a dangerous society without protection, and in Enola’s case real-world skills--? Well, I’m certainly not going to disagree with you. This is YA Victorian London, after all, not Ripper Street. There is also neither a hint of or actual threat of sexual violence at any point in the film. But the lack of that has preserved us from having to sit through that, as well as no doubt lectures about how Enola’s virtue might be spoilt and she might become useful to no man.
The relationships are appropriate, too. Despite strides between Enola and certain adults in the film, by the time the credits roll they’re not showing physical affection toward each other (a move that would have seemed over-the-top), and teen relationships are shown progressing at a reasonable and mutedly awkward pace.
Tumblr media
Now, Netflix, green-light me five more films (or more). There’s still a new version of John Watson to meet, after all!

I can’t believe it took me until part 8 to do my favorite boy but
Tumblr media
Here are the pros and cons of dating
Noah
 Cons
Noah is really non confrontational, so he tends to let issues fester. It’s not that he’s trying to let things build up, it’s just that he doesn’t think they’re important enough to bring up. He won’t start a fight about them when they’ve built up, but if MC is angry about something he’ll mention that there’s a bunch of things he’s let go but not have specifics. It ends up coming out like ‘yeah well what about all the other things?!’ ‘what other things!?’ ‘I don’t remember!!’. He’s not actively keeping track of all her mistakes, he genuinely does forgive and forget, but then when tensions come to a boil he needs to point out that there has been conflict that he just ignored. He’s not trying to guilt or gaslight MC, but sometimes it feels like it. If she thinks especially little of his intentions, it feels like he’s just pulling things out of thin air to be mad instead of focusing on the issue. That’s not what he’s doing- he just doesn’t address little things until they feel like big things. But of course he hasn’t done the introspection to truly understand how doing this is hurtful or articulate that he doesn’t mean it to be.
When he and MC disagree, he lets things go wayyy too easily. This is fine if MC is a really mature, self-reflective person who can see that she’s crossed a line after the fact. But if MC is a little more selfish/immature, like Lottie, this is a huge con because he doesn’t give her accountability that would help her grow. We saw this with Hope- she wasn’t able to recognize how harmful her temper was when she was dating Noah because he never pointed it out, he just rolled over. If there’s a genuine problem- financial, emotional, logistically, he’ll ‘let it go’ until it’s a way bigger problem (and much harder to solve).
Sorry that most of these cons are about how he fights with people, but that’s what we saw in-game lol. I’d love to know more about how Lucas or Rahim fight with their partners. But when you’re arguing, Noah tends to focus on really little details of what you said instead of listening to the whole thing and getting a sense of the bigger picture. So let’s say the issue is ‘Noah, I need you to tell me when you’re borrowing my car because you took it to the gym and then it went from having enough gas to get me to work in the morning to being on empty. This morning I had to stop for gas and that made me late.” The issue there is actually ‘please tell me when you’re using my car”, but he fixates on the gas part and says “well fine I can fill up your tank”. So he focuses on little details that he can fix instead of acknowledging the actual problem.
He internalizes things so fucking hard. Yes he intellectually knows that when MC gives him feedback on things she’s talking about his BEHAVIOR and not him as a person, but he definitely feels like shit about himself if he makes a mistake and MC calls him on it. He’ll definitely beat himself up about things for weeks after it happens, and his internal dialogue in general is pretty toxic.
I can see him being a bit of a workaholic. Not in the same sense that Camilo is in Boat Party, but Noah definitely will go into the library on a day he’s scheduled to be off if he has projects to work on or will stay late because he got engrossed in research. Same thing now that the library’s closed because of COVID- it takes him two times as long to put everyone online and work from home, so he’s spending more time working than ever. He views it through the lens of the ‘greater good’- getting that display set up for the patrons is more important that seeing his wife two hours earlier because many members of the community outnumber one person. Plus he just cares so much about his work that he has a hard time seeing it as an inconvenience to other people.
He loves his family so much. Even when MC and he get married and have kids, he struggles to prioritize them over his siblings and parents. So if his little brother Arlo needs money, Noah won’t hesitate to give him a loan even if he and MC are struggling financially. If his aging mom or dad can’t live alone anymore, Noah will invite them to move in with his family, even if their house isn’t big enough to accommodate more people. I can see this being a huge point of contention, especially in that second scenario where MC would have to take on a caretaker role as well. Noah just wants to help people so bad and has a hard time saying no, so that can sometimes impede his partner.
He’s really used to living on low income, and so he has a lot of frugal habits and concessions that he thinks are normal that someone more middle or upper class might find irritating. These are all coming from my experience and things partners have complained about- but think things like only eating out once a month or refusing to turn the heat on until it’s dangerous or making his own laundry detergent. He grew up doing them out of necessity (and still does, student debt on a public librarian’s budget? I couldn’t do it), so he doesn’t realize how strange or frustrating his habits might be to someone who isn’t used to it. He also has a really hard time justifying spending excessive amounts of money, so if MC has lavish taste there’s going to be some conflict.
He doesn’t like initiating anything. Conversations, activities… you know *smirk emoji*. He will, but the ratio of when Noah suggests something to when MC does is like 1:8
My boy is beautiful, and his clothes look lovely, but he has 7 outfits that he rewears all the time. The closest thing to fashion is him putting a different button up shirt underneath his vest. It’s definitely a joke at work that he wears the same sweater, button up, and quarter length shirt just in different colors. You know that vine where the teacher walks into the room wearing the same shirt in different colors, saying the same ‘hello’ for like a million days. Noah’s coworkers remake that with him, because that’s exactly what he does.
He’s a bit of a homebody, and loves routine. For me, massive plus, I love that. But for someone who wants to party regularly or be spontaneous, I can see constantly changing plans and going out with people being really draining to Noah. He has a small group of close friends, so he’d struggle to remember MC’s friends' names if she has more than five. Don’t get me wrong, Noah will take MC to galleries and dates at least three times a month, but it has to be discussed and scheduled in advance.
Pros
Honestly, what isn’t a pro about him? Noah is a steadfast, thoughtful, and kind person. His politics are about taking care of people, providing them dignity and respect, and building community. He loves his family and is incredibly patient. He’s incredibly smart but not at all classist or condescending about it. I know this is supposed to be about how the islanders affect the person they’re dating, but oh my god he’s such a good person I love him. Let’s just say the pro for this is his positive aura.
He’s really good at group dynamics and listening, so he goes out of his way to make everyone feel heard and valued. If someone says something and no one acknowledges it, he’ll specifically engage with them so they’re not left hanging. If someone’s trying to get a word in but can’t, he’ll get everyone’s attention then say ‘so and so had an idea’. He’s not one to boisterously laugh in group settings, but he always makes eye contact and smiles if you make a joke that flops or say something he agrees with. If people are teasing about something, he picks up if it’s gone too far really easily and will gracefully change the subject/tell them to knock it off.
He’s super conscientious about respecting boundaries and ensuring the people around him are taking care of himself. If MC and him are long distance and texting after 10pm, he’ll be like “I love you, but we’ve both got to sleep. I’ll talk to you tomorrow”. He’ll always check and make sure people have eaten when meeting up with them, and if they haven’t he’ll insist they get food from somewhere. 100% gives you his jacket, brings you water bottles, in general just wants you to take care of yourself.
Above all else, Noah just always ensures the people around him feel safe. The last thing he’d want to do is make people uncomfortable, so safe driving, safe spaces, safe sex are all musts. He’s really good in crisis situations because he can calm people down and encourage them to think critically.
Building off of that, he’s really aware of how much of the housework is being done by who and always tries to ensure he’s doing his part. I bet that was a big thing he ripped on Rahim for- Rahim expects his woman to clean up after him and do the bulk of the domestic work, and Noah knows that’s bullshit. I think Noah likes cleaning, anyways, and will usually take laundry/disinfecting bathrooms/cleaning dishes over cooking or running errands. But the mental load of keeping track of recipes/groceries that need replenishing and keeping up with kids needs, he’s aware of the imbalance and does his part. Obvious plus, because it sounds fucking exhausting to date a man. He fucking hates vaccuming though, and will splurge on a roomba.
He has a dry sense of humor that’s very based in puns and hyperbole. Sometimes it’s hard to know when he’s joking or not, but he never makes you feel bad for missing a joke or dwells on something for too long. He absolutely subscribes to the Mcelroys’ No Bummers rule, there are some things you don’t joke about and he’s happy to shut down inappropriate comments or ‘jokes’. He definitely prefers physical gaffs and dumb ways of saying things, so his favorite comedians are John Mulaney and Chris Fleming. While humor isn’t an important part of how he relates to other people, Noah enjoys being around funny people and won’t shut down their energy like Rahim, Marisol, or Hope.
This is just me projecting again but Noah is generoussss. Even though he doesn’t make a lot of money at the library, he still has a ‘mutual aid’ budget each month (and goes over it often). He’s the first one to give money to panhandlers, donate to gofundmes, and give friends/family personal loans. That definitely gets him into sticky situations sometimes, because he has a hard time saying no and can get taken advantage of, but ultimately I think it’s a pro because he’ll never forget where he came from and always prioritize helping other people.
He has a really pretty, deep singing voice and this is a pro to me because fuck I meltttttt.
The shit he says to his partner or spouse? THE most romantic thing in the world. You think Mr. “you’re made of stardust” doesn’t shower his lover with the most meaningful lines at random times? You think he’s not quoting sappho and jane austen when he’s at a loss for words? You think he’s NOT going to turn over in bed on a lazy Saturday and say ‘this is the most perfect my life will ever be’? It’s not even prompted either, yes he’ll compliment Bobby or MC when they get all dressed up for date night, but more often he’ll profess his adoration in the middle of dinner, then take another forkful of food.
Fantastic with kids, and this is a huge pro because people who can work with kids and be patient/positive with them make me so fuckim soft. But if/when (hopefully when because if MC didn’t want kids I don’t think it’d last) they had kids, Noah is happy to be on bottle duty, wake up early to the baby, and generally be a really involved parent. He’ll take a big chunk of paternity leave, and generally be there as much as humanly possible. Even when they have multiple little tyrants running around, he always makes time to be alone with MC and make sure she’s not taking on too much.
He’s basically a lesbian, which is definitely a reason I love him so much. Hear me out- loves milfs, loves 80s music, communicates affection through meaningful glances and playing with hair but will die before explicitly saying any of it, crushes on his best friend for the longest time but never makes the first move, puts way too much emotional meaning and personal metaphors into objects and then presents them as gifts, is into fandoms and actively collects pop figures, is attracted to assertive/powerful women, wears beige skinny jeans, wears VESTS….. That’s a lesbian. He’s a bisexual man, but he’s also an honorary lesbian.
A really good confidant. Noah’s an amazing listener and never judges people harshly- his life philosophy is as long as you’re not hurting anymore or yourself, everything else is details. So you can definitely tell him secrets and confess regrets to him and he’ll listen with those soft eyes and gentle nods. Talking to him about mistakes always feels like unburdening yourself. And he’d never tell your secret to anyone. Doesn’t matter if you cheat on him, lie to him, or die, he’s never going to tell anyone your secrets.

Marvel Part 2
I was nervous about watching this set of films, because I know they are the least critically-acclaimed. I figured they would be a slog to get through, mostly filler between the big Avengers events. But I was surprised to find that these films were actually quite character-driven and plot-heavy, albeit relying on the previous events to make everything that much more satisfying. There’s definitely something to be said for knowing what’s going on when you watch a film, as opposed to passively being engaged in the spectacle (which I am often guilty of). I wouldn’t be so quick to write these movies off in the future.

Thor: The Dark World – Alan Taylor, 2013
Bookending The Avengers with the first two Thor films made for an interesting viewing experience. As mentioned earlier, watching things in chronological order made the overarching plot much easier to follow. I liked seeing what happened with Loki immediately after the events of New York, and that was a nice reminder that not much time has passed between the first Thor and this one. People hate on this movie a lot, and even Ragnarok makes fun of it, but it’s really not that bad. Yes, it’s incredibly dramatic, but it’s also pretty darn exciting! There’s magic, there’s aliens, Chris Hemsworth does that cute Thor smile that melts hearts everywhere. It’s a grand old time. Phase 2 of Marvel is typically regarded as the worst of the bunch, but in my opinion these movies are still pretty darn enjoyable.

Iron Man 3 – Shane Black, 2013
Speaking of movies that I thought I hated, there’s this. I only saw it one time and then let the popular opinions sway me into dissing this movie again and again. Turns out this is an introspective look at how being in a war zone will negatively affect even the most confident of civilians. Tony suffers from extreme anxiety after New York and has to confront who he is without his armor (literally and metaphorically). It’s so rare that we get to see superheroes get this stripped down, and it’s a nice reminder that Iron Man is really just a guy under all that bravado. My boyfriend thinks that the hatred of this film comes from the portrayal of the Mandarin and how that differs from the comic books, but I think the way they did it here is a really interesting take on a cookie-cutter villain. Don’t write this off so quickly.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Joe and Anthony Russo, 2013
Aka the film where everyone fell in love with Sebastian Stan. No? Just me? What can I say, there’s something about guyliner that really gets me going. Seeing Cap get gritty and real after the optimism in his first outing makes it clear why the Russos were handed the keys to the MCU kingdom. This is a very well-constructed movie, deftly introducing new characters and story elements that feed into the greater plot without compromising what we already know and love. It sets the foundation for Steve and Natasha’s friendship going forward and helps fill in the blanks for what’s happening on Earth while there are galactic happenings in the other films. Plus the fight scenes in this film are truly epic. Steve’s takedown of the Hydra agents in the elevator is for sure one of the highlights. The ending does drag a little, but the rest of the film sets the tone for many of the other MCU entries going forward.

Guardians of the Galaxy – James Gunn, 2014
And now, onto something completely different! This movie, much like Captain Marvel, does feel slightly out of place when watched in sequence with the others. But since it takes place in 2014, we have to watch it here. I can understand why this is the favorite of many Marvel fans. In many ways, it feels much more like a comic book than the others. It’s colorful, it’s chaotic, and being set against the backdrop of ‘80s pop music gives it a certain sense of nostalgia. You can’t help but dance along with Quill in the opening number, and it does wonders to endear him to the audience. The ragtag gang is always a fun dynamic to play with, even more so when they’re criminals. Oh, and Lee Pace is there, which means I will automatically like the movie more. The characters are edgy and unique, each with distinct personalities and quirks. Those do soften out a bit over the course of the movies, which is a shame as they all get lumped into one ensemble and become flatter for it. But there is no doubt that this is a very fun time.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – James Gunn, 2017
This movie was slightly disappointing, thought it was much more enjoyable right on the heels of the first one (as opposed to three years later in theaters). I don’t love the Guardians sense of humor, it tends to be a little bit too goofy and rely on cringing or making fun of others as opposed to real jokes. So for me, I didn’t have the best time here. The only thing of value to the overarching storyline is the evolution of Nebula as a character, and builds connection between the characters. Although much of that connection is built off-camera, between the two movies. There aren’t even any Infinity Stones in this movie. It feels too unnecessary to have a whole movie just about getting the characters where they need to be when we won’t see them again until Infinity War. Space escapades are fun and all, and Baby Groot is always a bonus. Okay, and the soundtrack is also excellent, and there were a few moments that genuinely did make me laugh. My problem is it makes the jump back to Earth very jarring, and I wish there was a way to smooth that out somehow.

Avengers: Age of Ultron – Joss Whedon, 2015
Ah, Age of Ultron. Another movie that seems to be widely disliked by the fans. I saw this at a midnight premiere as well, and I had a great time. I had a great time watching it now as well. Ultron’s creation is truly haunting, and his cold, calculating logic in destroying the human race feels almost reasonable. If you’ve been paying attention, then Ultron no longer seems like an overreaction from Iron Man, but instead an extension of his anxiety and his drive to protect everyone now that he knows what’s out there. The movies in between the first Avengers and this one actually did a good job of setting up where everyone is emotionally and why it’s important for them all to be back for this major event. Plus, here we get some nice character-building for Hawkeye, my main man. This pushes the Avengers in a new way, with world-ending stakes, and I think it’s great. Not only are they fighting an endless army of robots, but this time they’re also racing against the clock because they’re on a city in the sky. It’s so cool! Not to mention loads of other things get set up in this film, from Vision to Thor’s epiphany about the Infinity Stones. It sets the stage for a whole new era of Avengers, one that I’m very excited to move on to.

☕ kurt hummel
You and I both know how dangerous this is. A few notes before I get into this, I respect Chris himself. I have no issues with him or who he is. This is solely about the character. Alright, let’s go.
1. I don’t like him... in fact it very clearly verges on hate most of the time. I think he’s selfish and rude and oftentimes just a shitty person. He feels entitled to a lot of things and, when they don’t go his way, he always links it to his sexuality despite there being no correlation. (Season 2 when Burt told him to ask permission before having a bit stay over - the same rules applied to Finn and girls, for example)
2. He was a pretty terrible boyfriend most of the time. He was jealous constantly, had no respect for Blaine’s choices at points and thought he knew best. Some of the worst moments were 2x14 when Blaine is questioning, 5x16 when Blaine was watching porn because he felt like shit and instead of helping anything Kurt made him feel worse. (Look, it’s porn. It’s not a big thing. 99% of the time, watching porn means nothing to a person except a way to get off.)
3. I just didn’t like his fashion sense.
4. He could be a pretty awful friend as well. The way he treated Mercedes when he and Blaine started getting close, telling her that she just needed to get a boyfriend. I’m not a hummelberry fan because they’re both insufferable but the way he treated Rachel was pretty unfair sometimes.
5. The Chandler debacle. I understand that it can be considered cheating and that it can be considered not cheating. I’m very much of the opinion on the former. I think that when Rachel Berry is telling you you’re doing something wrong, you should rethink things. He didn’t tell Chandler he had a boyfriend (countering Blaine telling Sebastian about Kurt almost straight away), he didn’t tell Blaine about it and, as far as I could see, the messages were more romantic than they should’ve been.
6. In his defence, his is the only reaction to Brody that I can kind of stand. Finn, Santana and Rachel all treated him awfully when they discovered that he was a sex worker. So kudos to him for not beating him up, offering him money or confronting him with a song at his school for no reason.
7. Him at Dalton. From what we saw, he only befriended Blaine. He abandoned them as soon as they lost a competition. He had very little respect for their traditions (I get that he wanted some individuality but they were an acapella group. Teamwork is important there, uniformity is key. I understand that the way the new directions and the warblers worked was very different but he didn’t respect the Warblers at all).
8. The disrespect for Unique’s pronouns. Most of the characters were very guilty of this but, even in season 3, Kurt and Mercedes were really bad about it. There was no respect there. I just... couldn’t stand it.
9. NYADA admission. His audition was better than Rachel’s - I’ll give him that. But Rachel had so many extracurriculars on her application that Kurt didn’t have. He didn’t even consider it until the last minute and that’s probably a big part of why he didn’t get in the first time.
10. Kurt vs Sebastian. Anyone that follows my blog knows that I am a Seblaine shipper and a Sebastian Smythe stan. I’ve made no secret of it. But that’s not what this is about. Kurts treatment of Sebastian was pretty bad. I’m not going to defend Sebastian because he was a dick (I love him but let’s be honest). However, I do think some of the things Kurt said/did when Sebastian was around sucked. His possessiveness when it came to Blaine and Sebastian, his instant assumption that Blaine cheated with Sebastian, but especially his subtle slut shaming of Sebastian. We see it when he’s talking to Santana in 3x11 (and she’s just as guilty there) especially. I just think he had no right to say those things.
11. Klaine in New York. A fair bit of it wasn’t healthy. When Blaine first moved in, he wanted his own space, just something small so he could feel like he lived there as well, and Kurt shit all over it. I already spoke about Blaine’s weight gain. Blaine having to move in with Mercedes was what it took for their relationship to be okay - which shouldn’t be okay.
12. Blaine at McKinley. It started with Kurts constant questions about transferring and then after he had it was “I don’t want you to regret this” (which really should’ve been a point beforehand). Then it was Finn treating Blaine like shit for 8 episodes. And West Side Story was a whole thing but I’m sorry if when I think of the role of Tony, I don’t think of Kurt Hummel. Artie and Beiste and Emma were right - it just wasn’t there when it came to Kurt and playing Tony. There’s the argument in 3x17 over “sitting on stools” and watching Blaine perform. There was just a lot there.
13. Blainofsky. I firmly believe he had no right to react the way he did. Blaine owed him absolutely nothing - kurt broke off the engagement after being a pretty shitty fiancé - and Blaine was happy for the first time in a long time. Blaine is also in the wrong in 6x07 for kissing Kurt but Kurt made it so they sang that duet. I think Kurt just liked to manipulate things in his favour when it came to Blaine’s other relationships and I don’t like that.
There’s probably a lot more I could say about Kurt Hummel and some of it could be positive but probably not. This was just a bunch of word vomit so I’m sorry. But there you go.
