Juliette watched as Lucy assessed herself, something that she'd noted the woman doing much more as her pregnancy progressed. "Say the word too and we can head on home if you're tuckered out." Juliette offered, before nodding in agreement about JJ's tacos. "I give him a lot of grief for plenty of things, but man can he cook a taco." Eyeing up the spot where his recipe was being sold to the masses, Juliette said, "I'll grab you some more and I think I'm in the mood to try some of those panzerotti things. Fried goods, melty cheese, what more could we want? And how about you Miss. Ellie?"
"Thanks, this is a nice place to sit and rest and it give Ellie something fun to do." She said as she looked down at her feet to check and make sure her ankles weren't swelling with all of the walking she'd been doing. She let out a soft chuckle. "Would it be greedy if I said that I'm craving more of JJ's tacos even though I already had three earlier today? They have just the right amount of spice and they are soo good." She did the chef's kiss motion before letting out a soft giggle. "What are you in the mood for?"

DOUGH | Mix 25g of fresh yeast (you can use another type of baker's yeast) in 400ML lukewarm milk. Then pour 4g of sugar. Begin petrification of the paw for several minutes by adding 45ML of olive oil during petrification. Once finished pour a little flour into a bowl and put the paw in it, pour some flour on top of the dough too. Allow the dough to rest in a relatively warm and humid place for 3 hours (minimum advise) (You may deposit a lukewarm water container if the dough's resting location is an enclosed area).
SAUCE | Put the cooking at medium temperature and in a relatively large pan pour 75ML olive oil. In addition to 4 g of tomato paste (Option) and a clove of garlic (7 g). Stir the sauce throughout the preparation. Cut in half 8 cherry tomatoes and add 400g (425ML) tomato sauce and stir. Add 4g of dried basil (or fresh basil), 4g of salt, 60ML of water. Put the lid on your stove and wait between 30 to 1 hour. Remember to stir from time to time while cooking.
PANZEROTTI | Cut the dough in half. Spread the dough with a roll of pattisserie (Or other things). You can put over the dough, a sulfuric paper that will have the effect of adhering to the dough and thus prevented the dough to recover to its original form. Once you have a spread like a mini pizza. Place an object of round shape like a bowl for example. With a cut knife, the paw has the round shape that you deposit in advance on the dough. Iron a few rolls of pastry dough to spread the paw a second time quickly. Then add the filling (according to your tastes). In this video, the trim for 1 Panzerotti is as follows : - Tomato Sauce 15ML - Parmesan Cheese 5g - Mozzarella 15g Heat the sunflower oil at medium temperature. Take the end of your dough and fold it on itself. Close the ends by gently pressing with your fingers. Then seal the panzerotti permanently. To do this step, use a fork and press the back of your fork over the ends of the dough to close (delicately). Heat the sunflower oil at medium temperature. Put the panzerottis in the oil. The panzerotti must have a golden color before removing it.
ℹ️1 Tablespoon 15G - 15ML ℹ️1 Teaspoon 5G - 5ML
ℹ️ Can be used for pizza, calzone ... etc ℹ️ You can use classic tomatoes, but the taste will be slightly different ℹ️ You can add a very low dose (3~4g) of sugar to reduce the acid taste of tomatoes (a bit like onions)
⚠️Be careful that the sauce does not burn. However, remove or lift the lid as little as possible while cooking ⚠️Remove the cloves of garlic after cooking

Piofiore no Banshou | Nicola/Liliana, Gilbert | AO3 Summary: At the height of summer, Liliana Adornato arrives at the Visconti manor in the hands of Nicola Francesca. There are unresolved issues between them. This becomes everyone else's problem, too. (Or, Lili wages some psychological warfare against Nicola. The Visconti manor experiences a premature and very severe winter.) Notes: COULDN’T MOVE ON FROM PIOFIORE WITHOUT PAYING TRIBUTE TO MY FAVORITE BOY, NICOLA FRANCESCA....I LOVE HIM. and therefore i shall bully him, just a little.
.
.
.
At the height of summer, Liliana Adornato arrives at the Visconti manor in the hands of Nicola Francesca.
The latter is met with thinly veiled hostility. A traitor is a traitor, but Gilbert has made his orders clear: Nicola Francesca is not to be touched. The former, on the other hand, is met with both politeness and interest; though she had been under the protection of the Falzone Family, she is merely a normal girl, and one from the church, at that. There is no problem there.
It's expected that Nicola will be trouble, the largest upset, internal ceasefire notwithstanding. After all, he’s not just any traitor to his Family—he was their Underboss, and a talented one at that. Simply by way of his being here and what he’s already done—he will always be an outsider, no matter how many years he stays with the Visconti or how many feats he performs under their name. As Oliver says: once a traitor, always a traitor.
The Visconti do not expect the lady to be anything but demure and well-mannered, as she has already shown herself to be. Sure, she was living in the Falzone manor awhile and sure, the Visconti are friendlier than most mafia, but both Families are still mafia, and in Burlone, it’s the mafia that rule. As a citizen, Liliana knows how to show her respect, to stay within the unwritten laws.
But. Within a few days, it becomes apparent that there’s something between Lili and Nicola. Despite the fact that it was he who kidnapped her and brought her here, she looks for him at every turn and is far more at ease in his presence than anyone else’s. The Visconti soldati see her face light up at any glimpse of him, though Nicola rebuffs her approach at every turn, far too busy to entertain her. Otherwise, he never spares a glance. The two have had at least one proper conversation behind closed doors, presumably in which Nicola had reaffirmed her situation and his true colors, but it doesn’t change her behavior.
The soldati shake their heads and think she’ll get over it; it is apparent she has outlived her usefulness, and even they have heard tell of Nicola Francesca’s pretty string of broken hearts. Eventually those ladies learn to stop lamenting over a mafia boy, and move on.
The soldati are wrong.
Liliana is darling and sweet, kind and optimistic. She is also stubborn.
All of those are weapons, and consciously or not, she uses them.
There are unresolved issues between her and Nicola.
This becomes everyone else’s problem, too.
.
He is avoiding her.
Some interaction is inevitable, yes, but he makes the choices where he can. If she is in the dining hall he will not eat then; if she is in the kitchens he will make his drink later. He leaves the manor before she wakes and returns well past her bedtime. If he must see her or speak to her, he averts his gaze or cuts her off mid-sentence and pushes past him.
Lili had thought him kind, but he’d warned her—he is also a cruel man.
And yet—Lili mounts her rebellion, undeterred.
First is during lunch one day. Nicola walks into the dining room and the chatter quiets before it picks up again; he is used to this by now, more relieved that he does not see Lili in their midst. He goes to the serving table, frowning a little at what he sees. Broiled bream in lardo is the main course.
He hates lardo.
He considers his options, but before he can choose anything, the volume of the chatter fluctuates again, and when he turns he sees Lili sweeping into the room. His heart doesn’t even have time to sink before she’s in front of him.
“Here,” she says, and though her tone is pleasant as ever, her eyes are challenging.
In her hands is a plate, loaded up with food. It looks no different than anyone else’s, but upon closer inspection, he realizes that the fish has been baked, the accompanying lemon sauce a little different. It has no lardo.
Nicola looks at her, and she stares back. Back at the Falzone manor, she’d made a very similar dish to today’s main course, and he’d eaten it without complaint because she had served it to him so happily. It was later that she found out his preferences, but he assured her hers had been an exception.
Now, she serves him the opposite. Despite his treatment of her, she remembered and went through the effort of preparing something else for him.
Lili waits. All around them, the chatter has quieted to a low din, everyone watching the strange almost-fight between them. Nicola should refuse, like he’s always done. She’s tried this before, offering him food, trailing after him and begging him to eat or rest.
She’s not begging now; it is an attack, as much as it is an offering.
Her eyes flicker at his hesitation, and she tilts her head a little.
How much do you hate me? She seems to ask, limpid and melancholy. Will he rebuff her food again this time, despite the other options being something he hates or an unsatisfying combination of side dishes?
“You must have a lot of time on your hands,” Nicola says with a frown, trying to spurn her anyway.
“I’m staying put,” Lili responds, without missing a beat, “So yes, I do. But you won’t waste it, will you?”
Her ample time, or her food? Either way, Nicola can’t think of anything else rude to say. He lets Lili push the plate into his hands.
“Thank you,” he says stiffly, and Lili beams at him.
Nicola sits. Lili does too in the seat across from him, after preparing her own plate. It’s the same as his. The dining room is unable to return to its normal ambiance, a strange sort of frigidness still present between the two of them.
I make what you like. I eat what you like. I sit with you, I eat with you—I am with you.
It is a message, all of it, to him and the Visconti both whether she intends both or not. She stands by him and him only, even now.
Nicola cleans his plate, almost against his will. She’s a good cook, always has been, and the food is…familiar. Comforting.
“I’ll get it,” Lili says softly, reaching for his empty dish, and Nicola looks at her.
Her actions so far have all been servile, but when she looks at him now, satisfaction evident on her face, Nicola feels like a fly caught in a spider’s web.
.
Nicola is exhausted when he walks through the door, and moreso when Lili pops her head around the corner. Her face brightens even as his darkens, and she offers him a plate of fresh panzerotti, which he curtly refuses.
“You don’t look so good,” she continues, coming closer and practically blocking his path as he tries to move forward, peering at his face. “How about a cup of espresso?”
Nicola freezes at the familiar words, though they must seem innocuous to everyone else. His eyes narrow almost imperceptibly, and Lili takes advantage of his pause to flit towards the kitchen.
“I don’t need it,” he calls immediately after her, his brows furrowing, but when he finally follows after her, she is already in the middle of preparing one. “I thought I refused.”
She doesn’t look at him, pointedly ignoring his words.
“You look pale. Having something warm will make you feel better,” she tells him serenely, and Nicola stiffens again.
He remembers this exact conversation when he first brought her to the Visconti manor, only their roles were reversed.
In another few moments, she is handing him the freshly brewed cup.
“Here,” she says, smiling, and Nicola sighs, looking vaguely pained.
“Lili…” he sighs, but she merely continues to hold out the cup of espresso as she pins him with her stare.
The coffee does smell good. He accepts the cup and sips, and she looks a little relieved—had he truly looked so tired, and in need of a pick-me-up?—before turning to make herself a cup of what he presumes will be a caffe latte. She looks vaguely surprised when she turns around and he’s still there, and perhaps it is testament to how exhausted he is because he doesn’t move.
They stand in silence, sipping at their drinks, a world unspoken between them once more.
“I’m happy to see you,” Lili says, very softly, and Nicola sighs.
“Liliana…don’t,” he says, almost apologetic.
Her mouth twists a little, having expected this anyway.
“It’s the duty of an Italian lady to please the man in her life,” she says flatly, sipping at her coffee in an apathetic manner.
Nicola looks at her in slight disbelief; the fact that she remembers the things he’s said with such clarity to use them against him in such a way…despite himself, he’s impressed.
“You’re not pleasing me, Liliana,” Nicola half-purrs, half-sneers. “Why do you keep doing this? Just be the good girl you’ve always been—“
“The fact that you think that is already a mistake.”
He freezes. Oh, she is good.
Lili is smiling at him, the picture of innocence and elegance, and though she could very well just be repeating his words back to him, suddenly he is questioning whether or not she means it—or rather, how much. She’s not good enough at subterfuge for her entirely personality to be a lie—plus the Falzones have watched over her for a long time. But her behavior has been different lately, hasn’t it, and Nicola wonders—why?
“Liliana,” Nicola says carefully, “I already told you why I brought you here. If you’re looking for the act I put up back at the Falzone manor—“
“What,” Lili interrupts him, setting her cup back on its saucer with a loud clink, “An unfortunate misunderstanding.”
This time, it’s she who walks away first, letting winter crystallize behind her.
.
He’s been unsettled since their last conversation, though he tries to put it out of his mind. It makes him more exhausted, and he hears Lili’s voice in his mind, telling him to rest, which he ignores too.
Nicola had told Gil to use and abuse him while he still could, and he still means it. He’s used to being worked hard, but it’s Lili that makes him tired, it’s Lili that—
He sighs deeply, running a hand through his hair. It’s time to admit that he does, in fact, need to rest, and thus drag his body back to the new, uncomfortable room he must call home.
As he steps through the door of the Visconti manor, he hears a low, distressed voice, and his feet are already moving before his mind can catch up.
Lili is standing in front of her door, crying. Gil is in front of her, making soothing noises, but the sight of Lili’s tears cuts Nicola to the bone, knocks the air out of his lungs. What happened? What happened?
“It’s just hard,” Lili is saying, as she puts her hands to her face, “I’m just…a little tired.”
“I can imagine,” Gil responds, leaning a little closer. “Say, Lili…”
She looks up, and Nicola’s breath catches in his throat—she is vulnerable now, scrubbed raw, and Gil…
“What if you make a different choice?” Gil asks, and Lili blinks, confused.
“What…?”
“I’m just saying that I would never make a pretty girl like you cry,” Gil says, smiling. “Instead of Nicola, why don’t you give me a shot instead?”
“Gil, I—“
The Visconti Boss leans close, opening the door behind her just as Lili steps back, and in a moment he’s practically pushed her into her room.
The door closes.
Nicola is moving again, feeling cold, cold, slamming the door open again with a bang. Lili has fallen onto her bed, eyes wide, and Gil is smirking. He rips Gil from Lili, and she sits up, a hand over her heart; Nicola struggles to remain calm as he questions just what on earth is going on here. Gil is suspiciously calm in the face of his vitriol—Nicola truly did not think Gil was this sort of person. But after some time, Gil shoots Lili a wry look.
“Guess I won that bet, huh? Or did you want to see more?”
“N-no…” Lili breathes, and Nicola glares at the Boss.
“Gilbert…what do you mean, bet?”
“Your girl here looked so pitiful that I decided to do a little role playing. Say, Nicola…how about ditching the lies for once and saving your effort for the truth instead?”
He laughs then sails out of the room. His words sink in, and Nicola curses Gil’s back with fervor.
And then, it is just the two of them.
“…Thank you, Nicola,” Lili ventures hesitantly, though she doesn’t look at him. “I didn’t think Gil was going to go that far.”
He sighs deeply, shoulders sagging.
“Well, I could tell that you truly were not enjoying the situation,” he frowns. “…Don’t scare me like that.”
She meets his eyes then, and though his brows are creased in anger, she can tell it’s not directed towards her. For a moment she looks hopeful, but then she stares down at her lap, her shoulders tensing as though she is already expecting rejection.
“Can we rebuild our relationship from the beginning?” she blurts, and she puts her face in her hands for a moment. “I don’t mind if it’s not exactly the same as before. Just…please, Nicola, don’t…don’t push me away.”
He stares at her, and she looks up at him. There are still tears clinging to her lashes, and he remembers: I’m just…a little tired. Suddenly also remembers back at the Falzone manor, where one of his men had politely warned him don’t play around with her too much, followed up by Leo’s cheeky please treasure her, okay? We believe in you!
He sighs heavily. There is an end to all things.
“I won’t treat you as kindly as before,” he warns, but she brightens anyway, and for a second it seems like she might throw her arms around him.
He finds that he wouldn’t mind. He finds that despite his words, he wants to treat her kindly, if it means she’ll smile at him like that again.
“That’s fine!” Lili exclaims warmly, the tension bleeding out of her body. “Thank you, Nicola!”
He shakes his head; there is nothing she should show gratitude for.
“Why are you so happy?” he murmurs wryly, and she giggles a little.
“I just am,” she says, and gazes back at him.
For a moment, it is spring again, and though he still has things to do and burdens weighing upon him, Nicola leaves her room a little lighter.
.
The soldati have gotten used to turning on their heels and fleeing the premises entirely when they see Lili and Nicola together. If people linger around the edges of the snowglobe the two create for themselves when they speak, they get frostbitten—it’s always snow and sleet and squalls around these two. As such, it takes a while before some of them manage to register the softening. Lili is still the one that talks more while Nicola listens, but his lips are turned up ever so slightly now, and his eyes are gentler.
Civility. In some ways, this is scarier; the soldati have only ever seen them at odds, and though what is happening now is certainly better, it is also somewhat unsettling. Spring could be coming, or it could simply be a false alarm before a blizzard kills them all. Burlone has mild winters, but Gil grew up in America, and they’ve heard stories about how bad their winters can get, how freak storms can happen just when you think it’s starting to warm up.
The soldati watch in apprehension, Oliver watches with suspicion, Gil watches with amusement, and the temperature of the Visconti household is still entirely reliant on the two who don’t truly belong there.
.
They talk at night.
It’s truly the only time Nicola can spare, when Lili should really be in bed. But she stays up for him and her smile is so bright when he knocks and opens her door that he forgets he is tired. He owes this to her, at the least; he hadn’t bothered to think it might mean anything suggestive when she’d asked him for this favor, even as he sits on her bed, but he did tease her about it anyway just to see her blush so beautifully. It’s—comforting, to see her react this way again.
“Despite everything…I thought you’d continue to ignore me,” she admits, and he give her a wry smile.
“I should have been about to lie to you without any remorse. But you…how do I say this…” he shakes his head, shrugging helplessly. “You were…surprisingly stubborn. Even I thought I might have treated you a little too coldly, but…you really have no sense of self preservation, do you?”
She laughs a little.
“Maybe just when it comes to you,” she says, “But I also don’t believe everything you did for me was a lie.”
He’s floored on two accounts—her unintentional flirting and her optimism, though she isn’t wrong about the latter.
“It always confused me, why you were so kind to me at the Falzone manor…so when I learned it was only just to use me, well…it was oddly…relieving, to have an explanation.”
Nicola laughs disbelievingly, absolutely mystified.
“You didn’t curse me or hate me or despise me? Not even a little?”
She tilts her head, her brows furrowing as she considers, though he answer is near immediate.
“It was painful to be ignored. But hating you didn’t cross my mind.”
Nicola gapes at her.
“You’re unbelievable,” he mutters, and she simply beams at him. “Unbelievable and impossible.”
“Only to you, Signor Francesca,” she says, her eyes twinkling, and Nicola…Nicola resists the urge to reach out and touch her.
“Well?” he says instead, with a slight cough, “What do you want to talk about tonight?”
It is evident that she wants to ask about his betrayal, but she curbs the topic just a little to ask about his and Dante’s childhood instead. Once he starts talking, it spills out of him with abandon; by the end, she’s crying, and his heart softens at the sight of her tears. She’d been downcast the first time he told her about his past too, that day he’d fallen asleep on her lap, and he’d felt an odd sort of sadness for it. Now, he is grateful for her sorrow, though it’s mixed with that same sort of strange pain.
A tear escapes her eye and rolls down her cheek; Nicola reaches out and brushes it away, his hand lingering.
“Thank you, Liliana,” he says softly.
“I didn’t do anything,” she protests, but he smiles.
“You cried for Dante, and that’s worth my thanks,” he murmurs.
They are silent for a moment; Lili looks up at him, eyes glistening, tears caught in her long lashes. Nicola gazes back; his hand cups her cheek, her lips form his name, and—
“Good night, Liliana,” he says, and rises from the bed.
Nicola leaves her room before he does anything more.
.
He is shaking by the time he makes it back to the Visconti manor from the casino, Lili in his arms, injured but alive after attempting to take a bullet for him. His mind is awhirl; she had been so strong at the summit of all the Bosses, standing her ground against the three most powerful men in Burlone, so unwavering and perfect. The meeting had gone well, despite him having to see Dante face-to-face again finally, and then…
The appearance of Roberto de Feo, his unusual interest in Lili, and the absolute inanity of his attempting to kill a mafia member in broad sight, on Arca’s neutral territory. Nicola never thought Lili would jump out in front of his shot; Roberto had been distressed too—in fact, that only one who wasn’t shocked was Lili herself. Instead, she’d been so angry at Roberto, so defensive over his slander and attempted murder of Nicola.
She’d only abated when Nicola put both hands on her shoulders and leaned in, forcing her to look at him.
“Calm down, Liliana,” he’d said firmly, and she’d reached out both trembling hands to cup his cheeks in such sweet relief.
He could have kissed her, right then and there. But she was bleeding, her armed grazed by the bullet. There was no longer any need for either of them be at the casino, and so he’d whisked her away to safety without looking back.
“Nicola,” Lili murmurs, worried, and he bites down hard on his lip.
Even now she’s more concerned with him than herself, when she could have died.
He kicks open the door to her room, seating her on her bed so carefully as though she is made of glass.
“Why did you do that?” he demands, the floodgates cracking, and she looks at him with bewildered eyes. “You could have been killed!”
She gapes, face scrunching up.
“So could you!”
“I’m mafia! We all know what’s coming! I’ll die one day for what I do and it won’t matter. But you?” Nicola looks at her, half wild, then turns away, running a hand through his hair. “Not you, Lili.”
“I’d do it again,” Lili says hotly, her eyes suddenly flinty, and he whirls back, “I saw what was going to happen and I wasn’t thinking when I moved—all I knew was that I didn’t want you to die. You were in danger! Nicola, I—“
He closes the remaining distance between them, kissing her hard and desperate. Lili topples back onto the bed, and Nicola leans into her, twining their fingers together. She’s surprised at the turn of events but only for a moment; she squeezes his hands back tightly, her mouth opening to taste more of him, just as desperate. Nicola presses into her, his kiss all teeth and tongue and unrestrained hunger, and when Lili finally untangles their hands she is fisting hers into his hair, pulling him closer, closer.
Liliana Adornato is a giver; it is her nature, to help and to serve. It’s what she likes to do. But here, with Nicola on top of her, tears clinging to his lashes and his turquoise eyes seeing nothing but her, Lili wants to take. She’ll give him everything he wants, but for once, she wants everything of his, too—his hands, his lips, his attention, and the heat that is vaporizing any bit of ice remaining between them.
“Nicola,” Lili gasps, when they part for air, “Nicola.”
“Liliana,” Nicola murmurs back, raw and ragged.
“I’d do it again,” she whispers, and he doesn’t know if she means jump in front of a bullet or kiss him back or both. “I’d do it all again for you, Nicola.”
“You’re unbelievable,” he whispers back, and kisses her again, gentler this time, and sweeter.
He mumbles something she can’t decipher, but she repeats his name against his mouth, sounding almost like a prayer.
The second time they part, he stares down at her, torn between agony and desire. She is flushed underneath him, breathing hard, her hair a mess and her shawl having slipped from her shoulders. But then his eyes trail to his handkerchief binding her wound; his face contorts as he regains his proper senses and he tears himself off of her.
Lili sits up, lunging forward and grabbing his arm before he can escape her room.
“Please,” she says, and Nicola looks like he’s in physical pain as he looks back at her, “Nicola, please. Don’t go.”
He goes still and they stare at each other.
“Don’t go,” she repeats, softer this time, and Nicola back towards her, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.
He surrenders.
.
A light knock sounds at Lili’s door late into the night.
“Come in,” Nicola responds, and it opens just enough for Gil to slip inside.
The Visconti Boss closes the door gently and leans to the side, smiling as he meets Nicola’s eyes. He keeps his voice low as he speaks, as does Nicola.
“Oh? When you responded, I expected to see some clothes off when I opened the door.”
Nicola rolls his eyes.
“Spare me your perversions, Gil,” he says, though he shifts a little as though to shield Lili’s sleeping face.
He’s sitting up in Lili’s bed, perfectly decent, legs stretched out. The girl is nestled against his side, sleeping soundly, one hand entwined with his.
There had been no salacious activities, though the knowledge of the line almost crossed was intoxicating between them, and the sight of each other’s swollen lips was…invigorating. There had, however, been more kisses shared, but in the end he’d simply held her close and stroked her hair as she listened to the steady rhythm of his heart.
Gil smirks, but the expression bleeds from his face quickly enough.
“She okay?”
“Yeah.”
“And you?”
A pause.
“I will be, especially once all this is over,” he says, a little bitterly, and Gil shakes his head, sighing.
“You still thinking about breaking her heart, after all that? And this?”
He gestures vaguely, and Nicola shoots him a rueful look.
“Haven’t I already?” Nicola asks, and Gil smothers a derisive laugh.
“Far from it. You can be a real idiot sometimes, you know that? Or if you’re waiting for her to break yours…if it even happens somehow, it’ll only be the death of you. You’re in too deep already, Nicola.”
He laughs softly.
“This is a lot of meddling, even for you, Gilbert,” he says, and Gil shrugs.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed but—oh, who am I kidding? You know damn well both you and the signorina have turned my manor upside down since you’ve gotten here. Call it self-preservation, for the Family. And besides…I like you, Nicola.”
“Heart’s already taken, Gilbert.”
“Oh, now you admit it?”
Nicola looks down at Lili.
“I’m a dead man walking,” he tries, echoing a past conversation of theirs, but Gil snorts.
“For God’s sake, Nicola, just let her win.”
Gil walks out without waiting for a response, and Nicola is left alone with Lili again.
She’d fallen asleep quickly, despite their heated kisses earlier; all her adrenaline from the casino had finally worn off, leaving her exhausted. He’d assured her he would stay until she fell asleep, laying a hand over her eyes, so reminiscent of her first night at the Falzone manor. He feels at ease beside her, at peace looking at her sleeping face and hearing her breathe slow and even.
He hadn’t been lying to Gil, a moment ago. He still is a dead man walking, no matter how much Gil likes him. It’s Family first, in the mafia, and though he may be a Visconti now, he isn’t one truly. It’ll be an easy choice, if it comes down to him or another Visconti member. He is no longer a Falzone either; betrayal isn’t tolerated, and even if half of the Family doesn’t believe in his betrayal yet, the other half is out for his blood.
Hell, and Roberto is too, so that’s part of the police force as well.
The odds are stacked against him, but he still has his goals to achieve, plans that he’s laid for years. Since childhood, when Dante told him through tears that he hated the mafia and no longer wanted to be a part of it.
Nicola will see his plans come to fruition or die trying—freeing Dante is the one thing he will sacrifice himself for. Liliana…precious as she’s become, she does not supplant that.
The girl in question shifts, pressing herself closer against him, sighing softly.
“Nicola…” she murmurs, and he brushes a curl of hair from her cheek.
He only said he would stay until she fell asleep. Nicola has sat here for hours now, unable to bring himself to move.
Slowly, gently, he disentangles his fingers from hers and bends down to press one last kiss to her forehead.
.
He’s still there in the morning.

A View To A Winchester (Part 15)
Series Page
Summary: Julie’s starting a new life after divorce in a home with a very nice view.
A Dean X OFC story. I got this idea staring out the view of my home office window and thinking how nice it would be to have Dean Winchester to ogle.
Section Word Count: 4,200
Section Content: fluff, flirting, angst, bullying, R-rated language
~~~~~
Dean called Cas and told him he was running late. And that Julie would be coming to the festival as well. “Another date?” Cas asked. I guess this is another date. Doing everything out of goddamn order again. What’s new? After a lengthy list of what Cas and Jack shouldn’t discuss or bring up, Cas ended the call with, “I guess that only leaves the weather. When it doesn’t directly relate to signs of an impending Apocalypse, of course.” Smart ass.
Dean drove round to pick up Julie in Baby, freshly washed and rumbling for attention. He rolled up her driveway and stopped at the edge of the front walkway. She hopped off the front stoop wearing faded jean shorts and a white t-shirt that read “Italians Do It Better” in green, white, and red block letters. He caught that cute little skip she usually only did when she thought no one was watching. A high ponytail bounced to match the lightness in her steps. Sun reflected off the large brown lenses of her sunglasses. She leaned into the open passenger side window.
Looks like a fucking college girl. Dean mentally cursed at his cock for springing to attention. And I’m acting like a fucking horny teenager.
“You clean up real nice.” Dean cleared his throat.
She smiled. “So do you.”
“Hop in, sweetheart. I don’t want to have to speed this time.”
She laughed and climbed in. “I don’t think my heart can handle another one of those drives.”
He reversed down the driveway. “Just don’t want to disappoint Jack and get there too late.”
A frown stared back at him after she fastened her lap belt. “You can blame me.”
“I don’t want to have to explain why you’re to blame.” He grinned.
“Fair enough.” She crossed those legs that reminded Dean of a 50s pinup girl. Nice and curvy in all the right places. Her attention turned toward her open window. The breeze played with the wispy hairs she hadn’t wrangled into the ponytail. She pulled at a strand that got caught in her candy apple red lipstick. Dean licked his lips. How does acting like a horny teenager differ from me acting like my usual, horny adult self?
“I’m glad you said yes to coming out with me, us.” Dean tried to revert to some neutral conversation.
“Thanks for inviting me.”
“There are a couple rules, though.” He smiled.
“Rules? Wow. Do I need to walk six feet behind you at the festival? If so, you can drive me right back home.” She pursed her lips.
He raised a hand. “Okay, rules was the wrong word. More like warnings, I guess.”
Her arms were crossed now. “That doesn’t sound any better.”
“If you haven’t noticed, I stick my foot in my mouth. A lot.”
“I haven’t noticed, which is odd considering how much I stare at your mouth.” She shot back in a sarcastic and seductive tone.
Damn. Not helping me focus here, Jules.
“You’ve met Cas. And, Jack is sort of a chip off the old block. But, a little better adjusted.” Turns out a five year old nephilim has better social interaction and communication skills than a two-thousand year old angel. Who’d have thought?
“Okay. I’ll keep that in mind.” She nodded.
Dean raised a finger. “One thing he always wants, though, is to ride shotgun in Baby.”
“I have no problem being relegated to the back seat. I probably won’t get as queasy.”
Dean narrowed his eyes. “Is that a shot at my driving?”
She grinned and looked back out the window.
“Hm.” Dean turned up the volume on the stereo a little more to compete with the wind for the rest of the drive.
~~~~~
The expected awkwardness occurred once Dean arrived at Cas’s house. Cas forgot to invite them in after announcing he needed a couple more minutes and instead shut the door in their faces. Dean shrugged. “Sorry.”
Julie laughed. “It’s fine.” She turned and wandered down the path to look up at the cottage front. “It looks like a cute place from the outside.” Dean joined her, standing close enough to sniff the perfume she wore. “Is he worried I might find the dead bodies he’s hiding in there?”
A nervous laugh bubbled up from Dean. “Two guys, you know, the place can get messy.”
The door opened and Jack walked out, closing the door behind him. “Dean.” Jack smiled from ear to ear. He strolled with that goal oriented, mission style of his.
Dean patted him on the shoulder. “Hey, Jack. This is Julie.”
He tilted his head to Julie and outstretched his hand. “Hi, Julie. Nice to meet you.”
Julie removed her sunglasses and offered Jack a warm smile. “Nice to meet you.”
“Cas’ll be out in a minute. I love festivals.”
Julie’s eyes widened. “Do you?”
“Yes, especially this one. It’ll be the second year in a row we’ve gone to the Italian Festival. Did you know Saint Anthony of Padua is the patron saint of lost things?”
Dean held back a sigh.
She nodded. “I did, actually. I went to Saint Anthony’s elementary school. We learned a lot of things about him.”
“Does it actually work?”
Dean watched Julie try and track the conversation with her eyes. “Does what actually work?”
“Praying to him to help you find something you lost?”
“My mom would say yes. I’m not quite convinced.” She smiled.
“Are you Catholic? Since you went to a Catholic school.” Jack started his interrogation.
“Whoa, easy tiger.” Dean interrupted. “Remember what we said about politics and religion?”
Jack thought for a moment. “Don’t bring them up if you can help it?”
Dean winked.
Cas slammed the door and jolted the three of them where they stood. He marched to the tiny group and nodded. “Hello again, Julie. Lovely weather we’re having.”
Smart ass.
~~~~~
Julie turned out to be exactly the insider Dean needed when they drove through Little Italy. She navigated him around the tiny side streets. They found a parking spot beside a line of row homes. Dean began to parallel park Baby into the tight area.
“You hate parking your car on a city street.” Cas reminded Dean, seated next to Julie in the back.
He turned around to glance between the two of them through the rear windshield as he reversed. “Yeah, well, I hate paying twenty bucks to park in a lot even more.” He smiled at Julie. “I should take you with me everywhere.”
He couldn’t see the reaction in her eyes shielded by the sunglasses, but her cheeks reddened.
“That doesn’t sound like a feasible request, Dean.” Cas turned to Julie. “You have your own life and daily obligations, correct?”
Jack sighed. “He’s flirting, Cas.”
Dean shook his head and righted himself in the seat to finish parking. “Think I can borrow you a bit longer, Julie, so you can direct us on foot the rest of the way?” He side-eyed Cas. “Alright if I ask her that?”
Cas nodded. “That seems fine.”
Julie laughed.
~~~~~
The four city blocks around Saint Anthony’s school and church were decorated with Italian flag streamers draped from every available electricity and streetlight pole. The streets were flooded with a river of people. Cas and Jack had disappeared into the two blocks comprising the fairgrounds a half hour ago.
The aroma of sauce and grease and beer had been too much for Dean. He asked for Julie’s opinion on what to try. She suggested a panzerotti and vinegar coated french fries. Her memory did not falter as she parted through the bodies to the food stand she had in mind. She told Dean she frequented this one often as a pudgy kid. After waiting in line for ten minutes, they searched for a place to sit.
Dean and Julie deposited their red and white paper food trays and large beer cups at one of a dozen picnic benches under a tent. The festival goers around them were enjoying a band’s rendition of an Italian folk song.
Dean sat and inspected the panzerotti. “What is this again?”
Julie placed her glasses on the table top, rubbed her hands together and leaned in close to him. “Deep fried dough with a molten, delicious mix of sauce and mozzarella inside. It’s like a stromboli bomb. I’d tell you to be careful, but there’s no way around it. First bite’s gonna burn no matter what.” She grinned. “So good. You’ll need that beer.”
Dean smiled and tore into the panzerotti. The contents seared his lips and mouth. “H-H-Hot!” He exclaimed and chugged down some beer. He swallowed and sighed. “Awesome.”
She laughed, nibbled at the corner of the treat in her hand, then fanned her mouth. “I can’t believe they’re allowed to sell these without someone signing a waiver first.”
Dean chuckled and blew on his snack, shoveling a couple french fries in while he waited for it to cool down. He noted the families and crowds, the conversations and music swarming all around. It felt stuffy, the heat of the nearby stands cooking and frying trapped under the tent. “This wasn’t as much fun last year. I basically just stood in the center of the fairgrounds with Cas while Jack hit every single ride. Three times each at least.”
Julie smiled. “Don’t they know how much you love food?”
“Oh, they do. But, it was more about giving Jack the chance to experience it, you know? And, helping Cas through it.”
She picked at the dough with her fingers and munched with care. “They both seem nice. But, what’s their deal? I don’t know many kids that call their parents by their first name.”
How do I always tell her the truth, now, without telling her everything. “Jack didn’t start living with Cas until a couple years ago. So, the dad/son thing is still kinda new for both of them.”
“Divorce?”
“He was never married to Jack’s mom.”
Julie nodded. “Yeah, I guess that’s tough all around.” Dean watched her as he took another bite. He cringed at the hot sauce hitting his tongue and the expression on her face that was leading to another question. “So, you said you knew Cas for a long time. Did you two come to Delaware together? Did he work with you and your brother?”
He chewed, thinking. “He’s helped here and there over the years. When business slowed… I knew Cas would be lost for a while. I got my footing and told him this would be as good a place as any for him to start over with Jack.” The look she gave made him self-conscious. He patted a scratchy napkin around his mouth. “I’m covered in panzerotti, aren’t I?”
She shook her head, lids blinking slow, taking him in. “No. You’re all about saving people, huh?”
He smiled at her wistful expression. “Kind of hard to shake, I guess.”
“Julie!”
Dean cocked his head to the other side of the picnic bench at the call.
Julie’s eyes widened. “Maggie! How are you?”
“Good. Haven’t seen you in forever!” The tiny brunette was pushing a stroller. A passed out toddler covered in chocolate ice cream stains swayed in the seat.
Hm. Should share some ice cream with Jules after this. I bet she likes sprinkles.
Maggie’s big blue eyes surveyed Dean. He nodded at the acknowledgement. She looked back over to Julie. “How are you? Visiting your mom? How’s she?”
“I’m good.” Julie stated. Dean noticed her posture stiffen, putting a little more distance between them on the bench. This isn’t a “nice to see you again” situation. “Um, mom’s good. I see you have another little one.” She smiled and motioned to the child.
Maggie beamed back and pushed the stroller back and forth with one hand, on autopilot. Dean caught a weariness and exhaustion in Maggie’s smile. “Yeah. Davey, Jr. Just turned two a couple weeks ago. Dave’s grabbing some food with Madison. I think the last time I saw you was at the Flower Market years back. Maddie was four maybe.”
Julie nodded and smiled. Tight lipped and on guard. Yeah, she’s not one to give a lot of info to just anybody.
“I’d met your husband, Steve? How’s he?”
And there it is.
Julie cleared her throat and shrugged. “I wouldn’t know. We, um, we’re divorced.”
Maggie clutched her chest. “Oh my God. I’m so sorry. I had no idea.”
Julie shook her head at Maggie. “Of course you didn’t. Or, you wouldn’t have asked.” She turned and looked at him, her eyes screaming SAVE ME. “This is Dean.”
Dean whipped out his best smile and nodded again. “Hi there, Maggie.”
Maggie fiddled with her hair. “Hi.”
“Hey, Mag. I found Rich and the crew over by the grandstand. They’re saving us seats.” A tall, tubby man saddled up behind Maggie. He held a tray filled with grease and sweets and sipped on a huge soda cup.
“Where’s Madison?” Maggie looked over her shoulder.
“Caught up with some school friends. Gave her the last of the tickets.”
“Dave, do you remember Julie? She was in our class at St. Anthony’s.”
The blue eyes scrunched together under a low riding ball cap. A long slurp and then recognition followed. He pointed with the soda cup. “Julie Jelly Belly! First in the lunch line, last to get picked for Dodgeball.”
Maggie smacked her husband’s rather pronounced beer belly. Dean swore he heard some liquid slosh around in there. Julie’s face reddened. What a dick.
“What?” Dave asked with a shrug, then slurped again.
Maggie shook her head.
Dave gave Julie a leering once over. “You look great now.”
Dean leaned into Julie and wrapped an arm around her waist. “Amazing how some people just get better with age.” He made sure Dave heard his voice, loud and clear, above all the noise.
Dave’s vacant expression was the only response he got back.
“Well, we’ve got to go. But, it was great seeing you!”
Julie waved.
The couple wandered off. Dean watched Maggie smack Dave on the back once they were out of earshot.
Julie laughed. “God, sometimes I forget how little some people change. And I had a crush on him back in school.”
“On that?” Dean frowned. He pulled Julie closer.
“He was cute back then. Still a dick, but cute.”
“I wouldn’t have been a dick to you.” He whispered in her ear.
Julie pulled away to stare at him. She looked like she’d sucked on a lemon.
“I wouldn’t have.” He repeated. “I was never the popular kid. We moved around too much for me to make a name for myself. I hated guys like that.”
“Well, you wouldn’t have noticed me, I’m sure.” She shook her head. “And, that’s okay.” She smiled. “You notice me now.”
He lifted his chin and looked down his nose at her. “Well, I definitely wouldn’t have picked on you. I protected Sammy from asshats like that. Gave them a proper beat down or wedgie when they deserved it.”
“Sammy had a good big brother.” She grinned. “Finish your panzerotti. We’re going to go take a walk through the fairgrounds next.”
He nodded. “Sounds like a plan.”
~~~~~
At some point during their carnival exploration, Dean’s fingers had interlocked with hers. It may have been so he didn’t lose her in the crowd and pulled her through a massive bottleneck. But once he did it, feeling the warmth and tight grip she returned, he went back to hold her hand throughout the late afternoon that stretched into early evening.
“Aw, this is my game!” He fished a couple bucks out of his pocket and sat on a spinny steel stool attached to a makeshift plywood floor. “Want to try?”
“I’m not very good at shooting games.”
He tapped the stool next to him and placed the buy-in on the counter for them both. “Humor me, sweetheart.”
Julie sighed and sat. The game attendant swiped up the cash and flicked on their mounted water guns. “Step right up and take a chance!”
Dean tested the turning radius of his weapon. A tween sat to his right. He passed the time as they waited for two more contestants and spun in his seat toward Julie. “Just have to breathe into it beforehand. Get your sight level and don’t squeeze the trigger until the buzzer goes off.”
She smiled and nodded, leaning down to try and line the gun up with the bullseye target directly in front of her spot. Her sunglasses rested in the collar of her shirt. From Dean’s perspective, she seemed to be enjoying the time with him.
“Dean!” Cas’s deep baritone startled him out of staring at Julie. He marched up and stood between their stools in his pale green button up and khaki cargo pants. “We’re almost out of tickets.”
“Are you asking me for money to buy more?” Dean raised an eyebrow. Jack was on Julie’s left and they chatted.
“Of course not. I have my own earnings. I just wanted to make you aware that we’ll probably be done soon and ready to leave.”
“Well, we need two more players.” He nodded to the empty spots next to Julie. “Why don’t you and Jack give it a try?”
Jack shrugged and sat next to Julie.
Cas looked at the attendant. “What’s the hoped for outcome if one wants to win?”
The wrinkled man pointed to the horses at the left of the huge game display. “You get your horse to the other side first.”
“Fair enough.” Cas wandered over next to Jack.
“Alright.” Dean smacked his hands together. “Game on!”
~~~~~
“That kid cheated.” Dean mumbled, marching away from the game seven minutes later. He had Julie by his side, hands locked together again. “No way he won three games in a row fair and square.” Jack and Cas caught up to his gait on his left.
“His reflexes and speed could just be better because…”
Cas put his hand on Jack’s shoulder. “I advise you to stop talking now.”
Dean cocked his head to see Julie grinning. “Did you find all that amusing, Jules?” He tried not to grin back.
She stopped in the middle of the path and looked upward. Dean, Jack, and Cas all halted in a delayed response. “Hey Cas, how many tickets do you have left?”
“Eight.”
“Could we all go on that?” She pointed up to the three story high ferris wheel in the middle of the fairgrounds. The massive steel spoked frame was decorated in what looked like thousands of multicolored lights.
“I’m not opposed to it.” Cas replied.
Julie stared at Dean and squeezed his hand. He sighed. “Sure.”
The line for the ride wasn’t very long. Jack and Cas filed in ahead of Dean and Julie. When they rocked off in their own carriage they gave the waiting couple a friendly salute.
“Are you thinking this ride will calm me down?” Dean passed the tickets to the attendant and tugged her up the rickety aluminum stairs.
She slid next to him on the hard seat. “Not really.” She shivered.
“Chilly?” He asked.
“A little.”
He wrapped an arm around her shoulder. The bar secured them in their carriage, they rocked backwards and up, and Dean’s secure footing disappeared. The evening sky above the rooftops and tree canopies turning deeper shades of blue as his eyes gazed higher.
“I kind of just wanted to get you alone for a little while.” She whispered, nuzzling into his neck.
“Hm.” Dean closed his eyes and smiled when she shivered again. They floated and swayed in a static spot as another group got on the ride.
“If you were perfect at that game, too, I would have thought I was dreaming again.”
“Again?” He rubbed her elbow. The carriage jerked up another click and stopped. Cas’s and Jack’s sneakered feet dangled above them.
“I don’t remember anything after Ina touched me, once we got to the shopping center and I parked the car.” Dean’s body turned rigid at the mention of the Jinn’s name. Julie slipped an arm around his waist and burrowed closer. Her warm breath bathed skin along his t-shirt collar. “I thought maybe she had drugged me. That’s what I asked the doctors. But, they said nothing came back in the tests to suggest that.”
His other hand latched onto her forearm.
“It wasn’t like I woke up in that bed as if no time had passed between the car and the hospital. It wasn’t a snap of the fingers. Have you… have you ever dreamed and felt like you’ve lived days, even weeks during it?”
‘Why, yes, Julie. I was kidnapped by a Jinn, a magical creature that feeds off human blood and puts its victims in a comatose, dream state. Hate to break it to you, but that’s exactly what happened to you, too.’ If I’m truthful right now, she might jump out of the damn carriage. “Weeks?” Avoid answering at all costs.
“That’s what happened. I was living my life. But, it was this, fantasy life. Just me… and you.”
Me? His thoughts focused on the night he’d found Julie. The Jinn was spouting some shit. Julie dreaming about me. The ferris wheel rotated without a hiccup with all its passengers accounted for and aboard the ride. The cool night air trailed over their entangled limbs. Goosebumps formed over her skin. He wondered how much of it was the wind or his fingers brushing along, needing to touch as many parts of her as he could. I was in her fairy tale life. Like the one I had, so long ago. The one that brought mom back to life and teased me with what could have been. Before she was really brought back by Amara, like a game show parting gift. ‘We appreciate you playing Dean. You were going to blow yourself up to save the world, but big sis and universe creating bro here worked it out, thanks to you.’ He stared at the back of Jack’s head. And there’s the former archangel slash human whose unstable powers took mom away again. A quick stab hit his heart. Here we are: one big happy band of misfits. Yeah, explaining supernatural stuff is going to have her looking at me like I should be committed.
Dean figured they had about eight cars to unload before them once the ride was done. They swirled and spun. The festival lights, the crowds, the noise; it all dipped close then faded away. He wanted to know specifics from Julie. The worry that his curiosity would only lead to more of her questions made him hesitate.
“Still there, Dean?” She tugged at his shirt.
“Yeah.”
“I freaked you out.” She stated.
“No. No.” He tilted his head down, nudging her forehead with his nose. He needed to look into her eyes and provide some reassurance. Those brown eyes were wide and cautious. He flashed her a smile. “What did we do in this dream of yours?”
Her eyes crinkled up with her grin. “A lot of what we started to do earlier today... in my bedroom.”
A brow lifted. “Why Julie, was I your sex slave?”
“Pretty sure there was mutual agreement in all of the activities that occurred.”
He bent down and kissed her, soft and slow. “I don’t doubt it. Was that all that we did? Cause that sounds like an awesome dream to have under any circumstances.”
“Not all. We just spent a ton of time together. Looking back on it now, the parts I can piece together, I should have known something was off. Because it was literally only you and me. In our neighborhood, in the city, taking drives along empty roads for miles.” She smiled. “I felt safe.”
He played with the tip of her ponytail as the carriage swung to a stop, almost at the very top of the wheel. “It sounds like that’s what you needed and your brain gave you that calm. That safety.”
“Well, then, you were just what I needed.” She kissed his cheek. “You were perfect. But, I gotta say, you were even better than what I could’ve dreamt up today, when you...” She trailed off when they locked eyes again.
“When I what?” He offered his best innocent expression.
She blushed.
“Come on.”
Her eyes drifted to his mouth. “When you ate me out.” The blush deepened under the ferris wheel lights. She licked her bottom lip, the red stain worn off it hours ago. It took a second for him to realize she mimicked his response to her statement.
“Sweetheart,” he sighed, shifting in the uncomfortable seat, his excitement growing at their proximity and the intimate confession. “You’re killing me, you know that?”
“Let’s put you out of your misery then.” Her lips brushed against his ear. “Can I come back to your place tonight?”
His eyes widened. “Well, I was already planning on staying over at yours... but, wherever. Long as we finish what we started.”
“Good.” She caught his lobe between her teeth.
Dean moaned. Gotta live up to this unstoppable sex machine she’s built up in her head. Yep, I may die tonight. But, what a way to go. Sure as hell a thousand times better than death by bacon. And, I fucking love bacon.

REFLECTION:
Upon approaching this project I was quite hesitant and intimidated at the concept of creating something out of my comfort zone. The first thing that came into my mind when exploring a tacit taste was anything made by Nonna; it was as simple as selecting the dish for my video. I picked the Panzerotti for my video as it is a dish that Nonna traditionally makes on special occasions, and I really wanted to capture an authentic Italian dish. However, upon creating and editing my video I realised, it wasn’t just about the beautiful dish that she was able to cook but also my Nonna’s personality. When I asked Nonna “why do you think your Panzerotti are the best” she simply replied with, “because normal people can have.” She was so honest in her answer, believing that you don’t have to be rich, poor or know anything about cooking to appreciate the simplicity of her dish. I believed I achieved every aesthetic aspect of my tacit taste, from the smells of the freshly grated parmesan, to the sounds of the Italian news channel playing in the background. The camera angles and dialogue within my video are supposed to be from my perspective; I believe I achieved this in allowing my viewer to imagine as if they were beside Nonna, helping her cook. I’m really happy with the quirkiness and relaxed feeling of the video. For me, it was all about immersing my viewer within my culture, celebrating my Nonna’s Italian heritage and her passion for cooking the recipes from her hometown.
The lectures were a great platform for inspiration and variety. Andy provided us with a great range of designers and projects to emphasis how broad the topic of food in design really is. They acted as a constant source of guidance and ideas to help us through the core classes.
The essentials classes and project helped me understand the importance of communication between the designer and client, as well as the business side of organising a project. The project was a great way to allow us to experience the planning for proposing, producing and managing for a project.

Wow. What a time with wine, friends, and traveling.
A few months ago, in November, I traveled to Bologna and Florence, Italy with some of my closest friends from Philadelphia.
To make things easier to understand, I will explain each one of my friends in a short description so you can get an idea.
So there is….
Ashley– Ashley and i go wayyyy back. Out of all the girls, she is the one I have known the longest. She is the one who I studied abroad with then traveled to Sorrento for the summer afterwards which led me to meeting Luigi, my boyfriend, and the rest is history. Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She is super sweet and incredibly friendly. She is literally so nice that she is able to always look for the good in people and become friends with practically anyone. Her laugh is so contagious. Straight out of Philly suburbs.
Rachel– Rachel is one of the three girls on this trip that I met through rooming at Temple University. We are known as the “Boobier bitches” long story short, it is a play off of the name of the street our house was on and the fact there was six of us girls living in this giant house during the time. Rachel is crazy in the funniest way. She brings out the weirdness in me and I love it. She also can be fairly organized so that was a huge help on this trip. She looks the most Italian out of all of us but she is actually Jewish. We have both pointed out that Israeli culture and Italian culture actually have a lot of similarities. New York born and raised.
Emily D.– Emily D. is the second girl I lived with at Temple University as part of the “Boobier bitches”. She is this funny sarcastic girl who just goes with the flow of things. From experience, I know she hates to clean things and can be very disorganized, but that is just what makes her so funny. Sometimes she will say the most wittiest comments and I have to give myself a second to wonder how the hell she comes up with them. She has never been to Europe before, but I can tell she wants to come back ASAP after this trip. From suburbs of Philly.
Emily Mac.- Emily Mac. is the final girl out of the 3 of the six that all lived in the “Boobier” house. She is this tiny little ball of energy who is down to do anything at any moment especially when it comes to spontaneous traveling. She is the one who got me to go on this trip. Originally Ashley wanted to surprise me (again), but it would have been too tough to organize it that way. She studied abroad through Temple University’s London campus while Ashley, Megan, and I were studying in Rome at the time. She is also the girl that traveled to Lisbon and Barcelona with us for our spring break. From suburbs of Philly like the most of us.
Mallory– I first met Mallory on this trip. She is a friend of a friend of Ashley’s from work. Ashley invited her to join us on this trip because she has never been to Europe before. She seemed a bit shy at first but she is very kind and understanding about our craziness. Although I have only known her for a short amount of time, she is really sweet. It is always hard to travel with a group of girls whom have known each other for so long, but it all worked out in the end. Originally from Lancaster, PA.
Megan– Megan is this tall beautiful blonde with bright, hypnotizing blue eyes. Everywhere we go Italian men are literally ALLL over her. But she is so sick and tired of it. Even though she is strikingly beautiful, she is a simple humble girl who doesn’t want to be drooled on. I met Megan through Ashley because they roomed together at Temple University’s Rome campus. She then actually fell in love with an Italian boy and transferred to John Cabot University in Rome. Unfortunately things didn’t work out with the boy but she fell in love with someone else: Rome. It is nice that I have a friend from home living in Italy with me and only an hour train ride away. Raised in the Philly suburbs.
This group of girls are some of my best friends and they all decided to plan a Europe adventure together. Their first stop was in London then onto Paris, and on the last leg of the tour, we all met up in Bologna and Florence, Italy (Except for Megan- since she lives in Rome, she planned to meet us in Florence).
Although the girls were in Europe for a week, we decided to spend two nights in Bologna, and two nights in Florence. So this is where I’m going to write about Bologna with my second article about my Florence experience. Enjoy!
Bologna, Italy:
In short, things I would recommend:
Impero (Caffe bar, pastries, aperitivo)
Trattoria da me (My favorite restaurant)
Via San Felice (street w/ Artisan/local shopping/authentic restaurants/bars)
Piazza Maggiore (Big central square with Churches/Palazzi/shops)
Basilica di San Petronio (Beautiful gothic church)
Via Pescherie Vecchie (street w/ local market/shops/bars)
Camera a Sud (super hipster/stylish bar/cafe)
Le Stanze (elegant classy bar great for date night)
Va Mo Là (amazing local food/atmosphere/service)
Bar L’una (nice pitstop bar with the coolest couple)
Most of us girls have never been to Bologna including myself. Bologna, Italy is a small city filled with an alternative-homey culture. From what I saw, it reminds me of a city where the habitants are a mix of college students, graduates, and young families. The reason behind that is that University of Bologna is located right on the outskirts of the city. Since us girls were only staying two nights and we had to catch a train to Florence afterwards, we decided to book an Airbnb located close to Bologna’s train station. I found an adorable apartment called MyG*flat with an even more adorable host, Monica. I arrived in Bologna in the early afternoon by train and Monica was right there waiting for me. She was extremely sweet and helpful when it came to the apartment and gave me tips where to buy food, and places to drink, eat, etc. The apartment itself was really cute.
The girls were flying into Bologna from Paris and they were planning to arrive pretty late that night so I wanted to cook them a nice meal. I headed to closest grocery store (which was literally right around the corner) and bought the ingredients I needed to make a classic dish from where I live in Campania: spaghetti alla Nerano (spaghetti with zucchini).
La ricetta (The recipe) includes:
Spaghetti (600g) -100g/person
4 or 5 zucchinis (you need to cut up the zucchini first and fry it)
Butter
Parmesan cheese
Sunflower oil
It was fairly easy to make. I love to cook, but my problem is that I am bad at it and I am a very impatient person sometimes. In other words, I ruined the spaghetti and turned it into gum.
But the girls ate it all anyway with the cheap wine I bought from a local alimentari.
For dessert, I bought a piccola pasticceria (a small assortment of pastries) from one of the best bars/pastry shops there is in Bologna: Impero.
(Photos provided by Google Images)
After we ate and drank everything in sight, we decided to head out into the center of the city and see what it had to offer. Keep in mind by the time the girls arrived and we finished eating and catching up it was about 2am on a cold November night. Most bars and places were closed due to the fact it was late, and also a Wednesday night. We began walking to the center of city and I stopped some young local Italians and asked them where we could find a drink at this hour. They recommend to keep walking straight to this street where a small bar and a late night to-go food place was still open and occupied with people. We grabbed some beers and cocktails and right next door some to-go pizza. There was nothing really happening that night, but it was just nice to catch up with everyone and absorb the fact that they are all in Italy with me. After stuffing our faces again, we began walking back home while scoping out some shops we could hit up the following day.
I woke up fairly early the next morning even though most of the girls were still sleeping. I really don’t blame them though because traveling is exhausting. By time everyone got up and ready it was already lunch time. I, of course being the leader/type of person I am, found a really cool restaurant called Trattoria da me with great reviews located on the other side of the city in this beautiful authentic hipster, but stylish, quarter of Bologna. The street of Via San Felice itself holds many unique spots to eat, window shop, and purchase a whole new wardrobe. I found a list of some great shops along this street:
But let’s talk about Trattoria da me. First of all their food was delicious and they gave us so much to eat- especially with the antipasto. For the second course most of us got the Spaghetti alla Bolognese which is a typical spaghetti meat dish from this region of Italy. The service was spectacular and treated us like family (all six of us). I even stroke a conversation with the waiters about the US election and how we all despise Trump and can’t believe he won and is actually our president. They were really hospitable and I would definitely eat there again. The atmosphere was that of a homey-pastel hipster cottage with beautiful framed artwork hanging along the walls. I would live there if I could.
The interior decorations and table settings.
(From left to right: Ashley, Emily D., and Rachel)
(From left to Right: Emily Mac., Me, and Mallory)
We were so stuffed it took us so long to actually leave our seats. But I give trattoria da me a easy five-star rating.
(Left: Mixed Meats antipasto. Right: Panzerotti- fried dough)
(Left: Ashley enjoying our wine. Right: Spaghetti alla Bolognese)
( Left: pickled vegetables. Right: Mixed meat antipasto with amazing cheese)
The girls and I made our way down Via S. Felice checking out some shops here and there and stopping at this tiny bar that offered artisan homemade espresso. Continuing along this street we saw graffiti and artwork that reminded me a lot of Brooklyn, NY.
And of course we stopped at some cute clothing stores. Emily D. has recently been obsessing over faux fur jackets and she found a stellar faux fur vest that had these rocker red stars on it. We all said she had to get and the rest was history. Some of the shops we browsed were H&M, Zara, and local clothing stores. After we shopped until we dropped, the sun was nearly setting so we made our way back into the center. We arrived at Piazza Maggiore that holds beautiful buildings, towers, palazzi, and more. We entered the beautiful Basilica di San Petronio. It was huge and breath-taking as one can imagine a gothic cathedral to be with 22 chapels.
We were all in-awe of this church as we exited. You don’t see things like this in the States often. The girls and I continued through the piazza down one of the busiest streets in Bologna: Via Pescherie Vecchie. Along this street are local markets with produce, small bars, restaurants, shops, and a lively nightlife.
(Me and Emily Mac. along Via Pescherie Vecchie)
Our shopping continued and I found a great place to have an aperitivo before our dinner: Camera a Sud.
(Photos NOT taken by me, but provided my Google Images)
Camera a Sud was the most hipster cafe I have seen since anything in Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. Although tiny, it was very charming and unfortunately I learned the hard way that I need to a reserve a table beforehand. It was packed with people (which I assume because it is a hotspot with locals) so in the end we decided to go somewhere else: Le Stanze.
(Photos NOT taken by me, but provided from their website, Le Stanze)
I found this place by searching on my phone and I saw costumers who posted photos of the interior that looked like a beautiful cathedral with massive tall ceilings. We were hooked and decided to grab a spritz there. But when we arrived, I was fairly disappointed to realize that the gorgeous beautiful interior architecture was only paint. The photos online were very deceiving. Le Stanze itself had a great atmosphere between class and elegance and date vibe. Their aperitivo buffet had great options although the prices can be a bit expensive.
After our deserved drink, all of us headed back to the apartment to rest our arms from all our shopping bags. I whipped out my phone and in search of a restaurant for dinner. I browsed through TripAdvisor and found a restaurant called Va Mo Là.
Inside Va Mo Là the atmosphere consisted of a rustic alternative wine bar library-type feel. We were sat downstairs in a nice quiet area. The food was marvelous, but something that stood out to me was their impeccable service. We had a bit of a problem because Mallory didn’t feel that well and she needed to go back to the apartment. We all understood so Ashley and Mallory left just before the antipasto arrived at the table. The girls said they would return as soon as they could and we told them not to worry. So Emily Mac., Emily D., Rachel, and I enjoyed our portions of the antipasto which included a nice mixed cheese plate. We made sure to put aside some for Ashley and Mallory. Both of the two girls ordered their main dish before they left, but I wanted to tell the server that there was an emergency so if they could hold off on preparing their food that would be amazing. Our server had no problem with that and all was good. Soon after, us four girls got our main dishes and enjoyed every bite. Once we finished, we realized it was getting late, and I tried to contact Ashley and Mallory to see if they were on their way back hoping they remembered which way to go.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to reach them. The server came to our table and politely asked if they could bring out their food because the chef had to leave. I felt so bad about holding them up, I just told them to box it to make it easier for the girls when they arrive so they can just eat it at the table. The server seemed kind of confused as to why not just eat it from the plate instead of the box at the table, but I didn’t know exactly when the two girls would arrive. I didn’t want their food to get cold either so I explained to him it would just be easier for you and us just to box it-no worries. Maybe he was right about presenting it- in Italy it is very strange to box food, and especially to eat boxed food at a restaurant. Since it was so late and everyone else in the restaurant had already eaten their meals and left, I thought the presentation wouldn’t matter. But with every question and request I asked (There were a lot) the server was so understanding and polite that I would have to give them 5 stars for hospitality. They were incredibly accommodating.
In relief, Ashley and Mallory finally made it back to the restaurant and ate their antipasto and main dishes. Once the girls finished, we paid the bill and made sure to tip our server (which I feel so bad that I can’t remember his name) a good percentage. We thanked everyone as we walked out the door and once we exited, we met these other Americans just out front whom we asked to take a photo of us girls in front of the restaurant.
After the lovely photo, we began to walk away, but we were stopped suddenly by the server rushing out the door calling us back. I was confused I thought maybe we forgot something at our table or underpaid (which I know for a fact we didn’t). But he kindly asked “Would you guys write a review for us, please?” It was so sweet and of course we said yes. I would highly recommend Va Mo Là if you are ever in Bologna.
The girls and I began walking back to our apartment and stopped at a local bar called Drogheria to grab a drink.
All the seating outside was full but the servers literally grabbed a table and chairs out of storage just for us. He even pulled the heater closer to us to stay warm. We each grabbed a drink, some cocktails, and some beer. The drinks arrived fairly quickly to our table except for mine. I waited a bit longer just to see that maybe they are still making my Moscow mule, but it never came. I asked another server to grab me one because the other guy must have forgotten. I waited again, and it still didn’t come. I was so confused. After a solid 20 minutes, I talked to my original server again-he apologized and finally brought me my cocktail. Thankfully, my drink was free and he discounted the other drinks as well on the bill. I would say their service in the end was nice although they made a mistake on my order. But that’s life, mistakes happen sometimes.
It was getting fairly late, and since we had to check out early the next morning from our Airbnb, we decided to call it a night in Bologna.
The next morning we woke up, packed our bags, and made it out the door. But in the morning, I am grumpy AF before I get my caffè (espresso). Luckily enough, there was a bar just below our apartment complex . I am pretty sure it was called Bar L’una. I am not 100% positive, but it is located on Via Antonio Gramsci just before the roundabout. Some of us got a caffè or a cappuccino and some small pastries. The older couple who own this bar served us and they were a riot. The woman would play this cute little singing toy and joke around with us. The man was exactly the same and you could tell this couple was a match made in heaven. They were the crazy aunt and uncle you actually wanted in your family-so humble, and welcoming. After saying grazie mille (Thank you very much), we made our way to the station and hopped on the next train to Florence…
Bologna Wow. What a time with wine, friends, and traveling. A few months ago, in November, I traveled to Bologna and Florence, Italy with some of my closest friends from Philadelphia.

👩🔬eXplanation (For 16 small Panzerotti) : DOUGH | Mix 25g of fresh yeast (you can use another type of baker's yeast) in 400ML lukewarm milk. Then pour 4g of sugar. SAUCE | Put the cooking at medium temperature and in a relatively large pan pour 75ML olive oil. In addition to 4 g of tomato paste (#Option) and a clove of garlic (7 g).
Enjoy your meal.
