FAQ for Darkfest RBB 2022 | General Announcement

We have a new event coming up!

Based on the responses to the survey we posted at the beginning of the year in our Discord server, we will be hosting a SteveTony Darkfests Reverse Big Bang! The goal of the event is to create more dark themed fanworks for Steve/Tony. Interpret "dark" as you see fit. We hope you participate! (Join our server here)

Requirements:

Artists must submit an original piece, either traditional or digital work.

Writers must submit a minimum of 3,000 words. There's no maximum cap.

Schedule:

Submissions for art opens on June 1st.

Art drafts must be submitted on July 1st.

Claims open on July 12th.

Writing from July 15-September 10th.

Posting begins on September 18th.

His story is done, unless he's being brought back in the present, and unless Sam is still in the spotlight. I do not want him back.

Steve's story is done. He had a good run in the MCU. I think he had a full story, and even if I didn't agree with his ending, I think he still had a really engaging and interesting story in full.

Anyway, CWCapwolf meets either AI Tony OR AIron Man and therefore meets a Tony he can’t eat! So that’s good? Don’t think AIron Man's Steve would like Capwolf very much (and if this Steve has been werewolfed they fight I guess? But any Steve is gonna try and fight this Capwolf so he can’t hurt anyone else). AI Tony's Steve is Hydra Steve so this might be an improvement?

now all we need to do is put C(ivil)W(arrior)C(ap)W(olf) in the Nomad suit and we'll have the Ultimate Steve (not to be confused with Ultimates Steve 😉)

also love this ranking of Steve v Steve matchups LMFAO, we should make a whole bracket sometime. I don't think the AIron Man AU!verse would really play a role here bc AIron Man isn't Tony. So unless CWCW is just on a murderous bent to eliminate all Steve's no matter what, AIron Man's Steve is probably safe. And even if he's not safe, sadly I do not think that early-616 era Steve, even if he has also been werewolfed, would be able to beat CWCW Steve in a 1v1 fight. RIP </3

It's so funny how Cap just COINCIDENTALLY seems to be physically unable to go through a SINGLE Republican presidency without having a crisis of faith that causes him to not be Cap anymore. Nomad with Nixon. USAgent with Reagan. Death and Buckycap with Bush, then HydraCap with Trump. I like to think him dying was the universe's way of identifying "...well he doesn't seem to be changing yet. Better balance this out real quick"

This is true, and moreover this ask dovetails nicely with another Cappost I've been thinking about making. Given the sliding timeline, who should we assume was in charge of the Secret Empire?

Loose, possibly at-least-partially misremembered background for those who weren't aware of this batshit plot point- In the early seventies, concurrent with Watergate, Captain America shut down a scheme by a neofascist group called the Secret Empire to, I dunno, hold the country hostage with a mutant-powered nuke or something, the specifics aren't important, what's important is that Cap cornered the leader of the group in the Oval Office, where he killed himself to avoid capture, and you never get to see the guy's face but it was all but directly stated that the Leader was Richard Nixon attempting a Coup D'état (possibly to get out of being prosecuted for Watergate?). This shakes Cap up pretty badly and he temporarily retired the Cap identity in order to operate as Nomad, The Man Without A Country, it was a whole crisis of conscience situation. Anyway, the whole situation is still vaguely implicitly canon, they refer to the Secret Empire, and there have been successor heroes who've taken up the Nomad identity after Cap got out of the funk. But It also can't have been Nixon who killed himself in front of Cap due to the sliding time scale- the rule of thumb for Marvel is that it's generally only been about 15-20 years at most since the Fantastic Four did their thing, which does hilarious things to the worldbuilding. My understanding is that you're supposed to assume that if the president is depicted in a marvel story you need to just mentally "swap in whoever would have been president 10-15 years before the present day, but given the specificity of this situation that quickly gets insane. Did Bush kill himself in front of Captain America to escape the consequences of the 2008 recession? Did Obama?! Was it just not a president at all at this point- in which case, why did Cap react badly enough to quit and become Nomad? And so on, and so forth. They basically gotta memory hole it, but I will not let them forget! Cap saw a U.S. President off themselves! But to tie this back to Civilwarposting- what I think about a lot is that from a worldbuilding perspective the actual political moment that generated Civil War is perpetually in flux. This is true of every Marvel comic but it's especially notable here because of the extent to which the comic itself is emphasizing the political moment and what created it. It's a Bush-era comic, a reaction to the politics and the rhetoric of the War on Terror and the post-9/11 years, Bush actually personally appears in it. But if it hasn't already, eventually it's going to have implicitly been pushed through Congress during the Obama Administration, and then during the Trump Admin, and then during the Biden Admin, and so on and so forth, and like. setting aside that there's already an entire swath of the marvel timeline that's very blatantly trump-admin-coded, produced in reaction to that atmosphere, The situations and arguments and rhetoric and battle lines that would have gotten that bill through each of those admins looks very different each time! And I'm not gonna say it's interesting to see how they'll resolve this, because they won't resolve it, they don't need to, they're politely asking everyone to let this one go and that's not the biggest ask these comics make of me, so fine. Whatever. But it's very very funny

Marvel 616's Trump approved Carol Danvers's Future Crime Project (leading to the Second Avengers Civil War), Built A Wall In Space, was temporarily exiled because of Secret Empire/HydraCap, and then watched Earth get repeatedly invaded by Aliens (War of The Realms, Empyre, King in Black). Also witnessed the initial establishment of the Mutant Nation of Krakoa.

So far Joe Biden had worked with the Mutant Nation, but then signed off on the large scale deportation of American Mutants to Arakko (Martian Mutant Colony). Also watched The Eternals try and kill everyone. Plus a bunch of Avengers nonsense I was not paying attention to.

Marvel 616 is a silly place.

Since we don't know too much about the movie yet, I can only speculate, but if they're doing what I think they might be doing, then it actually does tie in with Nazi ideology - Phase 4, and now Phase 5 are using the Earth-616 comics as their inspiration. In the Earth-616 run, there is an issue titled 'New Word Order' which focuses on The Red Skull. There is also the Nick Spencer Cap series (standalone) in which Steve begins working with Hydra.

Regardless of how it's handled in the movie, if this is the case, there absolutely will be antisemitic elements within the storyline.

I doubt they will use HydraCap. It's more likely to be The Red Skull again, mirroring TFA, if anything.

Because if yes I would ask genie to write an epic hickmanvengers/hydracap fix-it where steve and tony deal with the ramifications of these events and being turned evil and remembering it and what it means and having a serious conversation about violence and sexuality and and--

but if not, my wishes would be: 1. To always know the right word for the sentence. 2. Not making any typos or grammatical errors. 3. Being able to quickly come up with the perfect title and summary for my fic.

13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?

Writing any kind of relationship between characters. Showing that they are friends/lovers/soulmates whatever is so hard for me?? Which is why I do not write established relationship lol. Easy for me would be introspective thoughts. All my character overthink everything so much but that's just because I do that too :')

29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?

Inspiration comes mostly from the ideas that pop up in my brain. If I don't have a new idea, I don't write, easy as that. Sometimes reading fic with the same trope/setting/etc will help me when my inspiration runs dry, but oftentimes I'll just sit down and think about my plot until something clicks. Or talk it out with someone if it really is that dire.

How do I participate?

Due to the nature of this event, all participants are required to be 18+.

ARTISTS: No formal sign up is required. Submit your art work via email at stevetonydarkfests@gmail.com by the deadline. WRITERS: Claims will be posted on July 12th. Claim a piece and we will match you with the artist. First-come, first serve.
