You really missed your father. You couldn't remember what he looked like, not truly. Could not make out his features precisely, the way his face curved. Your heart dropped at the realization. The very person who had raised you, almost your entire life was gone. Viciously beat to death by the man who quietly slept beside you, his back to you.

Joel was an awful man, wasn't he? You had heard stories of him, at least a year before he had gotten to you. Your cousin returned from patrol with news of him carving up men in camps, stealing everything and leaving nothing but a butchered mess in his wake.

And for a while you couldn't believe men like that really existed, men who would take advantage of the innocent of the world. As if there wasn't already enough of that in the form of a vicious infection.

When he came to your camp, it was dark. You hadn't heard the attack at first, but rustling of the bushes around your tent made you quickly sit up. After screams and sounds of wet filled the air, tears streamed your face as he stood in front of you. Blood caked his face, fresh and new. His clothes were old and worn in. He was a truly frightening image to take in and you prepared for what you knew would come, his knife in your neck.

But it never did. A woman had entered your tent behind him, 'She's pretty.’

‘We’re takin her with us.’ he had muttered to her, and quickly turned and left.

The breaking in part was brutal, more brutal than what the soldiers had to endure you were sure. He wouldn't touch you, not yet. He left you alone for hours on end in an empty barren room, with no clothes on and realistically nothing to piss in. Then we would return, bloody and bruised and care for you, tricking your mind into believing he was the best thing for you. But after much pampering, he'd leave you on your own again. Alone and abandoned.

He would do this for a solid two months, until your will and mind shattered.

The last time, the last you could remember of that room, you had begged him to take you with him. Grabbing at his pant leg and refusing to let go, please please please.

‘Please take me with you!’ you had screamed, voice hearse.

‘Why, why darlin, what's the matter?’ he had asked you with a smirk. Joel was enjoying you, begging like this.

Now you sat up in bed, the covers covering your bruised legs, all left over from his iron grip on them. He was not a gentle lover, nor did he make an effort to become one for you. Sometimes, you thought about the repercussions of stabbing his throat and running. But his entire group, who worshiped Joel, would sic you like a dog and you found it wasn't worth it. And other times, you really fucking loved him.

You quickly turn to him, watching as he rubs his eyes.

“You awake? Itso’ late”

“I’m sorry.” you murmur.

“C’mere baby.” Joel leans against the headboard and holds his arms out.

You waste no time practically launching yourself into his arms, he had bathed recently and the smell of outdated old spice (and maybe some musky cologne he had taken off a dead man’s body) filled your nose. God you missed him. He had been gone, not raiding but patrolling with Tess.

“How's my girl?” he asks.

“I’m okay. I missed you. I hate…hate it when you go.” you say, leaning into his shoulder. “When you leave, and I…can't go with you. Something dies inside me.”

You can't see it, but Joel grins. A wide grin he hasn't smiled since he held Sarah.

“What dies darlin?” he begins rubbing your back. A tactic he used after abandoning you for days, when he sat you in the bath and promised he wouldn't do it again only to do it…again.

“I dunno. Something hurts, like in my stomach when you leave.” you pull away to look at him. Joel was pretty, too pretty for you to possibly deserve. And he thought you were pretty enough to take.

“I’m not really leavin you doll, not really. Jus’ gotta go protect our little family, you know that right?” he kisses your forehead.

“I know. You wouldn't leave me.” you tell yourself mostly.

“Now, I’m glad you’re awake.” he starts. “I had a dream darlin, a good one.” Joel reaches down to his pajama pants where a tent is forming. “Think my lil doll can help her daddy?”

You nod, nervous.

ok ok ok. this is the most important ask ive gotten in my life btw. here are my opinions (which are Absolute Fact but whatever) on all lance ship names (if i hve forgotten a ship. tough. but also lemme know so i will give u my Opinion bc obviously its very important):

merlin/lancelot = merlance (obviously x283992838383. although a strong case can be made for merlot BUT but but but it will only ever come in second place to merlance SORRY but its undeniable fact. mercelot is at the last level of hell)

arthur/lancelot = arlance (obviously x283992838384. arcelot just sounds like arse-a-lot. so. although👀👀—no no. no. arlance. i actually really like arlance as a ship name idk why. it makes Sense to me u know. anyway. arlance is by far the superior lancelot shipname)

gwen/lancelot = gwencelot (but only bc i cant think of an alternative. i was EXTREMELY tempted to say ‘glance’ tho just fyi)

okay on a more serious note, they would be the most powerful duo but this is wayyy before they're the deemed to be an epic duo

toji would be the "okay now do it" without even teaching megumi how to do it and sometimes megumi struggles on what to do because of his old man

lowkey he's such a mean dad when megumi's all grown, that's why megumi's all bruised up when toji's on his missions and work, dragging megumi along to 'teach' him

when megumi summons his divine dogs, best believe toji would jump back a little

now there is a time where toji would meet gojo annnd geto

so basically before toji trains megumi and all (boy is in school let him learn),

he was assigned to take down this second grade curse and setting out on the mission inmediately with his ugly worm

but the problem is this curse needed to be exorcised by gojo and geto because it was causing a ruckus in a village and ordered by the higher ups so they crossed paths coincidentally

"okay listen old man, we need to t-" "-it's mine boys, i need my money" gojo was a little close to cursing the man out because he just wanted to go back and chillax but geto held him back and whispered to gojo to focus on toji's cursed energy.

which is? none.

they were thinking on how a man with zero cursed energy will take a big fat curse, even with his bulky build and strong looking biceps, they doubt he could even take the curse out with his own two bare hands.

toji's lips stretch into a grin, noticing how they gone all quiet and asked them to sit back and relax as he starts coughing out the worm out his mouth and sling his katana over his shoulder when he casually walked to the curse.

gojo and geto quickly seperated from each other and ran towards the curse (well gojo was focused on toji rather than the curse as payback for ruining his evening) but toji was fast enough to slash the curse and it melts to the ground in heaps of goop.

toji leaped away from them, waving to them like the menace he is.

and well, this incident was one of the situations that set off into them meeting again and again, even geto was annoyed with this repetitive ordeal.

so when gojo saw megumi's dad when he randomly showed up to the school, he immediately shut his mouth and megumi questioned on why gojo suddenly wasn't chatty anymore

"that's my uh dad" -yOUR wHaT??!" geto could've joined him screaming if he was there but he was busy with shoko, investigating the curses that he managed to catch

i feel every interaction with gojo and toji in this au, it's them constantly insulting each other and shooting daggers which would make megumi pat his dad's back to go tf home

so knowing that gojo was megumi's teacher, toji would one day drag megumi away so he could see what that freak has taught his son, (or if he even teaches him-) probably way more better than him

the thought made him shrug but he was expecting a grand show from megumi which megumi gladly delivered

toji being impressed was an understatement, he didn't show it but with how much stronger megumi was, it made him kinda proud of his son

so when megumi would dissappear anonymously from the school sometimes, of course itadori and nobara would ask gojo why is that and gojo would always mumble out his response and not give a clear answer

thank god geto's there and he tells them that his dad drags him on missions and it's also concerning if that was even allowed for the school but if it was that way, he doubts megumi should be in the school in the first place with how much he dissappears

so since it was an off day, the duo investigated and looked out for megumi with the help of shoko since she was the last person he saw to ask for a plaster before he left with his dad

what shocks the both of them is to see megumi and toji in general just teaming up

"oiii~ over here kiddo!" megumi clasped his hands into one of his shikigami's signs and let his shikigami attack the curses breeding out in the forest while toji cut his way through the abundance of curses just loitering everywhere.

megumi hopped onto the last bigger curse that his dad was on and kicked through it while toji shreds through it's spine with his blade and swiftly ended it's life.

toji raised his hand in the air and megumi nonchalantly high fived back and his dad laughed, telling how good his son is with how much he improved and it might've shocked megumi a little to hear that his father notices that.

nobara and itadori shrieked in unison but with different questions, nobara was just a little suprised to see that the hunk of man megumi calls a dad had (-finish the sentence) while itadori shouts out that he was actually working with someone.

megumi grumbled to see both of them and was he embarassed? maybe. toji poked his side and asked megumi to bring them along so they could chat a little at their home.

i just know nobara and megumi would LOVE mamaguro so much, they would tease him when his mom starts kissing megumi's face all over when they reached home

best cook mamaguro? best cook mamaguro!

the two idiots could sob at how good the food is and they would compliment itso many times, mamaguro would fluster around and waved her hands to tell them to stop praising her and just countinue eating

toji would defitenely make his wife's face go even redder with whatever the hell his smooth ass would say

he side glanced at his son to see that he softened a little around his friends and a genuine smile drew on his lips as he countinued on his conversation, happy to see his son being comfortable around other people besides his family

I got pan-pan a couple of days ago and I got around to playing it last night and I have thoughts I wanna get out of my head, I haven’t finished it yet but it feels like I’m close? unless there’s something after this point there might be more game than I think, I’m going to assume not though.

I am scared of puzzle games and it’s really weird they always set of the scared of mirrors and things part of my brain and I don’t know why, the like puzzle solved music in pan-pan does not help it’s very foreboding. When I was a kid I had a professor layton game and getting something right scared me so bad that I’ve never played a professor layton game since. This isn’t really relevant.

This is spoilers pan-pan is really great so far and short and I’d recommend itso I don’t wanna spoil solutions n things!!

The puzzles are good! I think, I don’t play these a lot because of above? but I enjoyed them and didn’t get stuck anywhere aside from one part coz I didn’t know you’d get abilities n that one area wasn’t as much an isolated branch right at the start. And also where I am now which isn’t really stuck I’m unsure where I’m being directed for the final? part. and the wandering around to search is a liiiittle slow but maybe I’m just impatient

The solution to the bird problem made me feel evil not in a fun way I just still feel awful about that, the bird wake up music will play in my brain for the rest of my life though

I will never forgive them for killing my robot pal that was unecessary and mean, I felt bad about it as soon as I activated it and saw the other ones. why’d they do that they didn’t need to!!

The like leaf person? with the cool mask wearing the leaves? they’re super cool I like them

and the frog thing and the little cave dudes are super cute!!

I dunno. Anyway it’s really neat so far I’d recommend it for sure, the music is killer

i literally just had THE MOST terryifyinh dream and my whole body is numb like i can move but its tingling and i cant go back to sleep anymorebc of how petrified i am

it was about me waljing on campus to my doem but it was in a nieghborhood/city setting and then i slowly see these cops accumulate like its nothing and the scene suddenly changes to night time and i look back and everything is in slow motion and all of a sudden i see a guy with a gun (he loooks scared) from the other aide of the street walking across and hes looking eight arvthe cops and he nervously pulls out the gun and i hesr screMs around me already and somehow i immediately dive into the ground james bond style so im looking back ar whats happening still and he shooys but doesnt get anyone and he gets more confident and shoots again and i can see the light in the gun when thebuller fries but it doest hit anyone and the cops spring into action ad try shooting him but then he runs down the street and disappears. one cop car chases after him. im on yhe grounsvthinking to nyself oh my goah, i just witnessed and survived a shooting but tHen a guy is walking up the same sidewalk as i was a couple minutes ago wearing a jean hacket black skinnies and shoes a buzzcut ans a sinister hard look on his face and i juts know he has a gun and he looks like hes ready to kill no emotion on his face other than bent up hollow anger and my eyes wifen as soon as i see him swiftly take the gun out of his picket and confidently points it at the cops and immediatelt things get more chaotic than before and its all in slow motion again but its like i hear nothing evergying starts to sound muffled and blocked like in the movies to the point wheee i can only hear the pull of the tirgger and the gunshot and hes shooting everywehre and somehow there was this cardboard cutout shielding mw idk how it tot there but he shoots and it misses me just barely and hen the guy stops and gets in his car and drives off

You just need to know the formula. And that formula is well known, because:It is the format recommended by the legendary venture capital firm Sequoia Capital.So today, I'm going to use that format and re-design a famous Airbnb pitch.I'm goinggoing to improve the original pitch (at least I like to think so...) in every way, based on the Sequioa guidelines.And in other good news, the deck is only 10 slides long (+ one extra slide)...So, let’s dive in!Note: If you want to read the article with (much) better formatting you can also find it here: Anatomy of a Perfect Startup Pitch Deck – 11 Critical PagesBefore we begin: Each section is formatted the same way.Start with the Airbnb slide (if they have one)Give my comments and detail, what should be in it (based on Sequoia guidelines)Redesign the slideSum up, what should be in the slideSlide #1: What is the purpose and mission of the company?On the first page of your slide deck, you should simply write the mission of your company in a single sentence.To us, this concept can be quite high-flying so let’s look at some company purpose examples from their early investor presentations:Facebook: “Making the world more open and connected”, (which was changed to “Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together” in 2017)Airbnb: “The mission is to live in this world where one day you can feel like you're home anywhere and not in a home, but truly home, where you belong”YouTube: “To become the primary outlet of user-generated video content on the Internet, and to allow anyone to upload, share, and browse this content."As such, the first slide is quite simple, we have just a headline and a purpose statement. Here you are basically invited into the homes of people and get to share in their livesIn the 2000’s, Couchsurfing has become popular which is based on people letting spare room for travelersRecent trends that have made this possibleMoving on from that, we now need to define the recent trends that have made this possible.Again, this serves as a double chance to also demonstrate pain points that demonstrate, why the timing is so great.I would set this up with a few “then and now columns”. Here’s our take on the initial (early adopter) of Airbnb:Aged 20-40Culturally curious and aware of the budgetThis should be relatively simple for most companies and believe us: If you don’t know your typical customer you won’t raise any money.Market sizing: What is TAM, SAM, and SOM?Next up we get to the size of the market. This section should include three things:Total Addressable Market (“TAM”). This is all the people who can use your productServiceable Available Market (“SAM”). A part of TAM who are likely to use your productServiceable Obtainable Market (“SOM”). The subset of your SAM, that you can reasonably expect to get as customers over the next 3 yearsNow, a lot of start-ups struggle with this so let’s take a step back to explain these. No worry, and let’s again take Airbnb as an example:Total addressable marketThe TAM of Airbnb would be the worldwide hotel and bnb market.Basically, if you could only book any kind of stay through Airbnb the revenue of the company would be equal to TAM…… which is not going to happen.Serviceable addressable marketLet’s be more realistic instead. As Airbnb was named Air Bed and Breakfast when it started, it would be more natural to say the SAM would be equal to the entire Bed and Breakfast market.Now some of you might say this is too small a market because some hotel users will (and have) shifted to Airbnb – and you are right.But meeting investors, it is a good idea to err on the side of caution if (for no other reason) than the fact that they have seen so many pitches where the market sizing is completely off (if you watch Shark Tank you’ve probably seen this and seen, how angry the sharks get at unrealistic expectations).For TAM and SAM, you’ll probably have to find market reports or similar, to get a feel for the size of the market.The bottom-up market sizing approach:A lot of people struggle with the bottom-up approach of the SAM so here’s how we do it: The approach uses simple math to estimate the size of the market, combined with some market statistics. Investors love to see this as they can easily track your assumptions.Be aware, that these assumptions can also be a trap, as investors will judge you hard if you are too optimistic about your assumptions.Here’s how to do it:Start with the TAMEstimate the number of transactions in the market per yearEstimate the average transaction value (this can be either a market figure or a figure based on your own numbers)Serviceable Obtainable MarketThe SOM is more forgiving. This is usually represented as a percentage of the SAM. This could, for example, be capturing 20% of the bed and breakfast market.Now you might think you’re done, but investors love to see a growing market. They also addressed both Hostels.com and Hotels.com as clear competitors.This is genius as it shows that their market could be much larger than just Couchsurfing and Craigslist and instead compete with the wider Hostel and Hotel markets as well.Now, one thing that Airbnb didn’t have on their slide is listing their competitive advantages. Here’s why we think it fails:All three pictures are quite small and don’t seem very sexyThey fail to highlight their uniqueness – to us, this could just as well have been a Hotels.com pitch.Now, it’s easy to criticize, so here’s how we would fix these things:Use smartphone pictures instead of web pictures – these work much better in a presentation as they are optimized for smaller screensAdd bullets to highlight what makes each step of the process uniqueHighlight building critical mass and network effect across the productEspecially the latter is very important, as it highlights the switching costs. Airbnb (to our knowledge) is not protected by intellectual property rights – instead, they are protected by their market power: People post homes on Airbnb because that’s where the customers are. We would keep this information on the slide.However, the slide also has some shortcomings. While they are correct in stating that their business model is “taking a 10% commission on each transaction”, they fail to show how this plays out in practice. Here are some things they like:Active revenue streams, i.e. customers paying for a product or serviceRecurring revenue streams such as monthly or annual subscriptionsProof that customers are willing to buy the productA growing customer baseTo sum up, here’s what your business model slide should contain and how we addressed it in our Airbnb presentation:Revenue model – how revenue is generatedPricing – in this case, the commission on each bookingAverage account size and/or lifetime value – in this case, the average value of a booking to AirbnbSales & distribution model – addressed on a previous slideCustomer/pipeline list – could be included, but we decided not to include it. We will address this in the financials slideSlide #9: The team slide and demonstrating why this team is superiorThe team slide is one of the simplest slides in the deck but also one of the most important ones – and often one of the slides, that does not get the love it deserves. The slide is all about limiting execution risk and the smaller the execution risk, the larger the price an investor is willing to pay.This makes perfect sense: If you were to invest in a coffee shop would you rather invest in some guy off the street or Jerry Baldwin (one of the founders of Starbucks)?...So, here’s what investors look for in the team:Have they worked in a similar startup? And here there are of course bonus point if the previous startup was a successHave they worked in a similar market? Here there are especially bonus points for having people on board who has worked at any of your identified competitorsHave they worked with similar technology? Of less importance to Airbnb as their code is not hard to write or anything groundbreaking, however, if you have a patented product this is hugeIs the team diverse? Ideally, investors like to see at least a tech/product person, a salesperson and a financial person in the team.Has the team worked together before? The longer you’ve worked together, the less risk there is that things blow up and you leave because you hate the sight of each other.On the team slide, you should include the executive management of the firm as well as your Board of Directors / Board of Advisors.Now, most people just list the names of people and where they’ve worked before. However, they fail to address the issues of diversity and how long they’ve worked together before.Unfortunately, Airbnb didn’t include the team section in their slide package, but here’s how we would do it for a random business:https://bluetieslides.com/wp-content/uploads//2018/03/Startup-pitch-deck-slide-10.jpgNotice a few things here:We address all five points from aboveWe divide code executive management and the Board of Directors, so investors can quickly see who’s whoWe highlight/color code any overlap the persons have previously had so it’s easy to spot for the investorSlide #10: Financials including forecasted revenue for the next three yearsOn to the last slide of the deck: The financials of the firm, and what you are going to do if you get funding.There are quite a few ways to do this and there is no exact recipe – you can make very simple or very elaborate models showing the forecasted revenue and profitability of the company.Here at BlueTieSlides, we like to err on the side of caution and keep things simple, rather than getting lost in the intricate details of a model. We typically build a model based on assumptions about revenue, gross margin and cost levels going forward and work our way down to EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax Payments).The other part is what we all came for:The capital you’re looking to raise and what it should be used forThis ties in with the three-year model you’ve made: What are you actually going to use the money for?Here you should be very precise and list it in 3-4 bullets, and it should tie in with the forecast you’ve made in your model. I like to use the following format:We are seeking $xxx in a Series A:When you target the money raisedHow much capital has already been committedSo we can:Reach $xxx in sales / monthly recurring revenue (“MRR”)Expand to other markets / improve customer acquisition/file for more patentsScale our infrastructureThis is very concise, and investors know exactly what the money’s for.Putting it all together, here’s how we would have made the financial slide for Airbnb (numbers are made up):https://bluetieslides.com/wp-content/uploads//2018/03/Startup-pitch-deck-slide-11.jpgOutroNow, Airbnb obviously did raise money so who am I to tell them their presentation was bad?No one, however, I do think the presentation left a lot to the imagination of the reader and I do think Sequoias guidelines are great.And finally, I see so many people struggle with their presentation when all they need is an outline to follow.Whether you follow the outline I have given or not, I hope there's a lot you can take from the above :)
