i don't rly have full context so idk that i can give a complete opinion based on conjecture. the significance behind having teo and sai inhabit the northern air temple was about sharing culture and more than just idk... sai giving weapons to the fire nation to protect their livelihood. like that is a part of it, sure, but by removing the setting, it's taking away a lot of nuance the whole situation had.

jet and co being behind the bombs makes sense but idk in what context. if they're tailing fire nation spies outside (outside???? or does omashu having a woodsy side to it where they've set up camp and i just missed it?) the city to eliminate them, then why also bomb them inside the city? that part to me still seems like indiscriminate attacks meant to incite the army to fight. but i will hold back bc i dont wanna give these writers credit if thats not the case and its smth stupid instead rhgowhgqeg

speaking of stupid. can we live in an era (as someone who knows very little about showrunning) where actors voice if something pertaining to their character is bad or doesn't make sense. didn't emilia clarke wander around london or whatever in absolute turmoil bc she hated the ending for her character in game of thrones but in the end she still went thru w it bc what else could she do. i wanna live in a world where an actor reads a script or tries to act smth out and stops and goes no. no this is stupid i don't like this he would not say that. and it like, have weight and significance?? like if bad writing exists, instead of letting it slide, can ppl in the making of the show voice their opinions? if smth is bad then it's bad.

this is all bc of the senseless iroh pushing zuko to the ground and drawing attn to himself scene at the end of e3. like why. the gate was right there. no one was checking faces. cover zuko's head again and run out in the crowd. do anything aside from the needless sacrifice like what was the point, whyyyyyy, i don't understand.

(this was an interesting mashup episode but tbh all i was thinking thru watching it was 'wow! ppl who get into atla thru the netflix adaptation r gonna be so confused when they watch the cartoon and learn jet and teo are introduced at different points of the season from each other and omashu. completely different points. omashu is first half, jet is middle, teo and sai are end. not a bad thing it was just jarring to think abt.)

once again i do not like anything they've done with iroh's character.

idk i'll probably go in depth next episode when everything hopefully gets explained better but. maybe bc they're making atla into a drama instead of the action/adventure it was originally, they feel like everything has to be "dramatized" and it's sucking the soul out of the show? the comedy isn't there really, which is a shame. atla's comedy is like the golden standard of cartoon kids-rated comedy. i would've loved to see them get into omashu by disguising aang and katara running with the absurd surname and that whole element, instead of sneaking in with jet with what tries to be humor maybe but falls short of such. this show needs to be funnier to be successful in my eyes.

also i know i said this last time but i wanna say it again re: the change in genre. taking this show from a global journey adventure serial and trying to make it a drama is removing a lot of what made atla work so well. there was so much planning and nuance in everything, and it worked bc of the genre it fit into. trying to slice and dice certain elements of a season to fit a not even 8 hr runtime isn't great to begin with, but like. you can make the show more adult-oriented without changing what it is at its core, y'know?

now that there's definitely gonna be a good chunk of next episode also set in omashu, i rly hope there's some nod to haru and that it's not smth they cut entirely. tbh, i said everything connects throughout atla's three seasons, and this rly makes me wonder if they get a s2, what they're planning on doing then. i thought before this came out that if they were gonna cut anything, that i actually didn't care for jet's episode that much, but if you cut out jet, then you get rid of one of the more iconic scenes of s2, if not the whole show, where he's being brainwashed by the dai li. everything connects. the friends you make along the way come back to lend their assistance. i really hope the rest of what they'll do with omashu is decent and not wasted time.

hi i am attempting a thing. last time i tried to hold myself to account for posting regularly i gave up after a week and abandoned the account so lets goooooo

Want to make my art a bit better so I’m gonna be doing some studies on different topics. I’m in no way an expert at anything, so this is me going “hi! this is my learning process!” rather than me going “here’s how to do a thing.” We’ll see how it goes...

all my references for this one are from line of action, specifically their faces and expressions tool. decided on just doing neutral faces because I wanna focus on structure first. the ones I used are below.

here are my terrible quality photos of not-quite-as-terrible drawings (marginally).

I did write annotations on my sketchbook but my handwriting is less than ideal right now lol

Drawing one: Reference pic had the face turned more to the left. The general shape of the head needs softening. I seem to avoid drawing the details around the eyes, like the eyelids and general skin folds. Overall the drawing is very stiff and kind of lifeless. This is probably because I drew everything the first go around

Drawing two: This one has a bit more life as I decided to be looser with my actual hand, and built it up gradually with rough shapes and vague blobs before refining the detail. The eyes definitely need repositioning. I feel like I’m allergic to having them aligned properly. The overall headshape is also a little too wide.

Drawing three: The head angle is totally off and I didn’t realise until I was done lol. I’m definitely going to have to do more studies looking at skulls and how they affect the positioning of muscles and stuff, which I am not looking forward to. Again, eye alignment. Not quite as bad as the last but they do look inconsistent. I also definitely ignored ears lol

So, things I need to do more work on: - just drawing a bunch of faces of different varieties from different angles - ears. - proportions of the face and how eyes work within that - skulls. - not drawing on my sketchbook at an angle where my view of the page is totally skewed so stuff looks squished as hell when I look at it head on afterwards - general breakdowns of faces before I start drawing them

Wanna hear about how it had more of an enemies to lovers start? Too bad here it is anyway

So remember how I said zuke wasn’t really trusting of humans after a nasty betrayal? Well when the story takes place that feeling is at its peak, because being betrayed by a human you considered a trusted friend which not only broke your trust but put the lives of a sea which and an entire colony of sirens in danger becaus said human tipped off siren hunters to their location so the entire small towns worth of sirens had to move to a safer area until the hunters left which would take a while and... yeah it definitely stings.

So when zuke figured out mayday was making friends with a few of these shipwrecked humans he wanted to make sure they weren’t up to any tricky business, course his methods probably weren’t the best as he decided dragging Rin under the water to question him was a good idea. Rin nearly drowned, and had mayday not stepped in and, among other things, reminded zuke that humans need air Rin could have drowned.

Somehow Rin was only slightly unnerved by this, either because military training /hearing stories of sirens dragging sailors under the waves prepared him for this, or he was just incredibly gay for this handsome fish.

Their relationship does get better, after a few days zuke does cautiously approach to apologize, he wanted to keep his friend safe and was way to quick to jump the gun. Rin gets this since mayday probably has told them the story of the last human they trusted so Rin and the crew kinda understand why zuke and the others might not immediately trust them. After all that is settled and talked out they do end up hanging out more.

Rin and zuke definitely playfully tease each other, (if anyone has any nicknames they’d give the other I’m open to ideas) and I like to think after they reach a certain level of trust with eachother zuke would rake Rin to explore underwater caves and stuff, said caves have air patches of course, though Rin still is a little bit scared of drowning because well, yeah.

Again I’m not sure when the relationship turns from a friendship into romance, but there definitely is a clear turning point, maybe zuke shows Rin a came with bioluminescent mushrooms in it and they end up talking about siren songs, Rin convinces zuke to sing for him and reluctantly he does, somewhere along the line Rin figures out zukes song doesn’t really have an effect on him (anymore?) and something something Rin ends up stumbling out a love confession, it’s way cuter in context I swear.

hi! welcome to my last febuwhump fic!! very happy to have done the whole month :) and like. a Lot more young wallander than i intended lmao. anyway i hope you enjoy this fic!!

“You have to let me go,” Kurt pleads tearfully. “Please. Let me go.”

“No, Kurt.”

“Why not?”

Mona’s hand presses to his forehead. He flinches away, coughing into his elbow. “You’re cold,” he protests.

“And you have a fever. You’re not going anywhere today.”

He crosses his arms and stares her down, though she’s a little blurry, so he can’t be sure if he’s actually staring at her or not. “I have to go to work.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Yes I do. What if there’s a new case?”

“Then they can manage without you for the day. And anyway, I already called your boss and told her you weren’t going to be there today.”

“That’s not fair,” Kurt grumbles. He wants to go to work. But he also kind of wants to go to sleep…  

“That’s it,” Mona says, and he feels her hands guide him back so he’s lying down in bed again. “You just go to sleep. I’ll leave some things for you next to the bed, okay?”

Leave things… ”where are you goin’?”

“I still have work today,” is Mona’s reply, and Kurt pictures himself flying up in bed and looking at her disbelievingly. He’s too tired to actually do that, though. 

“You get to go to work?”

“I don’t have a fever. What I do have is an important event this weekend and a deadline to meet. So I’ve got to leave you, yeah? But I’ll be back in a few hours.”

“Kay,” Kurt decides. “Bye.”

“Bye, Kurt,” Mona says softly, pressing a kiss to his forehead before leaving. He falls asleep shortly thereafter.

He wakes up and he is so, so hot. He throws off the blankets, struggles his way out of his sweater, pulls off his socks, and finally gets out of bed altogether. He nearly collapses the second he stands up, so dizzy he can’t see, but he gets his bearings eventually, then promptly loses them in a coughing fit that sends his head spinning again. 

He braces himself against the wall and thinks as best as he can. He needs to go to work. Mona had told him no, but she’s not here now, so there’s no one to stop him. He’s going to go to work. 

He puts on some work clothes, struggling rather horribly with the task of buttons and zippers and laces, and takes a single look at himself in the mirror - not too bad, is his verdict - before heading off to work.

It’s a bit of a blur regarding how exactly he gets there - he just knows that by the time he arrives, his legs are shaking beneath him and his head is spinning and he feels really bad and maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all. He sinks down onto the ground outside the building and waits for his head to clear. 

“You alright, man?” someone asks, walking past him on the sidewalk. He gives them a jerky nod and decides that’s his signal to get up and get inside. He just about falls over while standing up, but manages to stay on his feet. He can do this.

Kurt gets through the door and for a second just looks around, not able to think about anything like where he should be going. Everything is lights and sounds and movement and it’s dizzying and overwhelming but he needs to be here, he needs to come to work. So he grits his teeth and keeps his eyes trained on the ground and walks until he reaches the Major Crimes office. Once he gets there, he forces himself to look up and around, so nobody will think there’s something wrong. He makes his way to his desk and sinks down heavily into the chair with a sigh and a sniff.

He’s so tired. And dizzy. And generally miserable. Why, exactly, had he thought it was a good idea to come in to work? He can’t remember. He puts his head down and tries to take deep breaths, tries to think of things to distract him from how shitty he feels. 

Someone approaches him, speaking on the phone. It takes a while for Kurt to realize it’s Reza, and even longer for him to make out what it is he’s saying. 

“I’ll come by after work today, yeah. As long as he’s not contagious or -”

Reza cuts himself off. Kurt would raise his head to see what’s startled him, but that requires more strength than he currently possesses. He just kind of groans instead and hopes the greeting will suffice.

“I gotta go. I’ll call you back in a minute.”

A second later, there’s a hand on his shoulder. Kurt startles at the contact, finally raising his head from the desk. He looks around blearily until his eyes land on Reza. 

“What the hell, man?” Reza asks. “Mona said you’re sick.”

Kurt shrugs.

Reza reaches out a hand and presses it to Kurt’s forehead. It’s wonderfully cool against the heat of his own skin, and he leans into it until it’s pulled away. 

“Jesus, Kurt, you’re burning up.”

“Yeah.”

“You’re supposed to be home and resting.”

“Yeah.”

“So why aren’t you?”

Kurt sighs. He can’t really explain it...he’d just wanted to come to work. He hadn’t thought it’d be a big deal.

“Well, you’re not staying here,” Reza says. “Don’t need you spreading your germs all over the place.”

Kurt manages to find the strength to be offended. “I am not spreading my germs all over the place. I’m barely even sick.” He cuts himself off with a cough, which definitely doesn’t do much for his argument. 

“Sure you’re not. And you just happened to wake up this morning and decide mismatched buttons and untied shoes were the way to go, did you?”

Kurt looks down at his shirt, which is indeed crooked, and his shoes, the laces of which are long and dirty. Ah.

“You’re sick, Kurt.”

“Okay, okay. I’m sick.” His sentence is punctuated by a sniff, and Reza gives him a half- fond, half-exasperated smile. 

“Do you want me to drive you home? I don’t have a lot to do at the moment,” Reza offers. Kurt shakes his head vehemently, making himself dizzy again. He doesn’t want to leave, not now that he’s here. Now that he’s not alone in his apartment.

“Don’t wanna go home. Nobody’s there.”

“How’s the break room couch sound, then?”

Kurt coughs a few times, harshly, as Reza’s speaking, and Reza waits for him to finish before repeating his question. “Break room couch?”

Kurt nods. The break room couch is by no means the best place to rest, but at the moment it may as well be a bed in the nicest hotel in the world. He thinks about lying down, closing his eyes, sleeping…

“Okay, hold on, don’t go falling asleep yet,” Reza says, and he taps Kurt on the side of the face. Kurt opens his eyes back up. “We’ve still gotta get you to the couch.”

It’s a bit of an ordeal, since Kurt’s limbs don’t really seem to be in the mood for cooperating, and since his head spins every time he so much as takes a breath, but they make it there in the end, and finally he’s on the couch and lying down, completely uncaring of anything else.

Reza pulls off his shoes for him, says, “suppose you made this easier for me when you got dressed earlier.” Kurt makes an mmph noise, now too tired to bother speaking. He’s so close to falling asleep now, falling asleep and having all his aches and pains fade away. 

He hears Reza leave for a moment, and then return. He places a cold, wet cloth on Kurt’s forehead that immediately starts him shivering, but then covers the rest of him in a blanket, which balances out the cold nicely. Reza himself sits on the edge of the couch, a comforting presence, and says something which Kurt can’t quite focus on enough to understand. 

He understands well enough, though, when he feels Reza get up to leave. He reaches out a blind, heavy hand and mutters, “don’ go, please.”

“You have to let me go,” Reza says. “I got stuff to do.”

“Reza,” Kurt complains, drawing out the name. “Please.”

His best friend relents easily. “Okay, fine. But if someone comes yelling at me because I’m not doing my job, I’m blaming you.”

“Kay,” Kurt agrees. “Sounds good.”

He can actually hear Reza roll his eyes when he sighs and says, “sleep, Kurt.”

He sleeps.

Most popular multi-chapter fic: obviously where the light goes, also known as my beloved CHILD !!!! i don’t write multichaps anymore but this is 2 long ass chapters so ig that’s Technically a multichap haha,,, yeah i knew this one was gonna be popular for the same reasons as the previous one + the very intentional tipping of the scale i did here with the balance of fluff and other things. like this is just pure distilled sugar it’s so so fluffy

Favourite story you’ve written so far: oh mannnn i gotta say where the light goes. especially that first chapter, just,, damn. what was i ON ?? its so good!! what the heck!!! quite proud of my metaphor work there, even if balancing prose/poetry feel is very stilted at times . in terms of that balance i think i did a Really good job with and neither did the both of us bc i went back and reread where the light goes for inspiration and i was like “oh god this is DROWNING in metaphors i need to lighten it up a little”

Fic you were nervous to post: i was nervous about where the light goes bc i had such high expectations going in, like i Knew people were craving what i had but i was like, did i do it right?? will this be my breakthrough in the mdzs fandom??? and it sort of was and sort of wasn’t, which,, fair. also SUPER nervous for astriferous bc i had written it all in like, one (1) day and it was for an exchange LMFAOOO (and you can really tell it was all written in one go......it was only when i hit the end that it got Good)

How you choose your titles: when i write fic i’m often scrapbooking a TON of different things together so titles are often just whatever it is i’m already drawing from. there are a few exceptions, like here, then, begins the mending, or and i need nothing more where a phrase popped into my head during the writing/drafting/brainstorming process and i was like OH THAT’S REALLY GOOD. TITLE IT IS

Do you outline?: usually only if it’s plot-driven, like my (incomplete for . Reasons) (ok i was being pestered bc i took it as a prompt and my promptee was. hm) YW multichap equilibrium, for which i outlined EVERYTHING. it was so annoying but i also lowkey liked it because these were MY messy outline notes and i could go as ham as i’d like

Complete: everything that’s posted !! except equilibrium ofc . that’s gonna stay where it is unless by some miracle of nature i get my momentum back for it

In progress: i am working on another jaslief oneshot!!! and for my mdzs folks i have been working on a rly long lesbian songxiao oneshot for a Very long time and it’s . mwah (i showed it to one of my friends and she lost her mind so i think i can say that with confidence)

Coming soon: probably nothing until i’m released from ochem/thesis hell hahahahahahahaaa but if anything were to come out this year it would be the songxiao most likely !

Upcoming story you’re the most excited to write?: i wanna finish my jaslief SOOOO bad oh my god . i put in so much self-indulgence in there and used what i learned from where the light goes to make it REALLY good n thematic. like don’t get me wrong i am also so excited for my songxiao but i wrote it with some uhhhhh Influence from things i was going through irl and it feels weighty now?? idk i’ll work it out eventually,, i’ve also had oubing fic brewing in my head for literally a year and i REALLY wanna write some pynch in the barns/cabeswater content. let me write about dreamthings and nATURE

Upcoming story you’re most excited about?: bold of u to assume i read multichapters anymore HAHAHA i rotate through the same library of 100 one-shots i have bookmarked now......but back when i did read multichaps i was REALLY into the work of iruutciv + orchids_and_fictional_cities team from yoi, they were absolute LEGENDS and their fic and miles to go before i sleep changed me as a person lmao (i also did read part of their ongoing but monsters are always hungry, darling and i’m actually still in their discord for it but it is SO so intricately crafted and i fell out of the loop and didn’t rly get back in) . currently i follow megafaunatic aka etymologyplayground’s work the most closely for my mxtx fix (my fav from them currently is probably you, asleep and dreaming)
