FURIOSA SPOILERS
Dementus parachute cape going from white in the beginning like a ‘saviour’ to covered with red paint once he meets a war boy and darker towards the end of the film has a GRIP ON ME. I’m torn as I think it could relate to two things.
1) how his followers see him as a saviour figure, and how active he is to use them as cannon fodder/ no true loyalty or freedom he pretends to uphold in order to gain followers. (See the Citadel Speech)
We all know Dementus is a manipulative prick the first time he ever meets Furiosa however, would be able to hide his true intentions to any child that wasn’t trained/like Furiosa. Taking the best care of her and saying he was going to take her home if she gave him directions seeming as if he was a good man when he did this in order to find, destroy and parasite off of the green place. His followers at this time see him as a saviour maybe not to the effect of immortan Joe but they see hope in finding a ‘better land/resources’ (See beginning of the film/ fruit tent scene)
It first becomes muddied when he encounters his first war boy (not after he commits his first act of violence!)This scene is later followed by his Citadel speech scene and follows his followers getting fucking blown to pieces by his arrogance and he doesn’t even try to save them. He only goes after Furiosa and the poor man who’s his walking dictionary only to further his own needs. His followers see him less as a saviour and the gang starts to split between leaders (see gas farm decoy scene that follows this, where there is tension between gang leaders AND he starts shooting his own men for decoy). (Also the Citadel I just mentioned)
And then lastly we see it towards the late second to third act of the film once he is separated from Furiosa where the top of the cape has gone black almost like it is covered blood. This is when he acquires gas farm and bullet farm (the black could also represent tar and the fossil fuels of both plants/greed). However this is when he is at his most volatile, his own people in the respected farms are planning a district 8 style uprising and he can’t keep his own gangs together due to his reckless behaviour. This is also best shown in the final act when he uses two out of four of them to be literal decoys for him so he can escape with his life. His followers no longer see him as a saviour and he has only has core followers left.

just want to say that you are one of the only artists whose wash take i respect especially because youve mentioned you dont even like him that much so hes kind of just a cute handbag for characters you do like. i love that.
helpppp yeah… i mean i do like wash. i like to put that man in situations. i think i just care more about the version of him in my brain rather than in canon.
i guess he’s just not exactly the type of character i go super crazy about but i do also have some reservations about his place as a “white” character in a fandom.
i only say this because when i first joined the rvb fandom years ago, he was pretty much exclusively drawn as a white man. i’m not saying that people only like him because he’s white, but i do think that in any community there will be some people with an unconscious bias towards white men. for example, there are many instances of poc characters in a piece of media being written poorly or as the therapist/accessory to the tortured white guy.
it’s totally normal for people to play favourites though obviously (i do too!) it’s only when it leads to the poor treatment of poc characters which is when it doesn’t sit right with me.
anyways. that’s not really relevant but i just wanted to explain my thoughts on the topic. regardless of whether he is white or not i fully understand why wash is one of the most popular characters and i don't have any problems with him or his stans or to people who see him as a white man! people have a right to envision him however they want to.
i just gotta be wary sometimes because there are certain people out there who can get very defensive over their favourite characters. i’ve had people in the past be very racist and mad at me for not drawing him as a white guy. and yes i know it’s basically canon that he’s white but also i don’t really care. people are making these heterosexual characters yaoi it up so why can’t i draw this guy who’s face has never been revealed into a poc.

Something something about the Third Doctor and the fate of Tantalus. You're trapped in one place. Everything you want, that you once took for granted is right there in front of you, you can see it you can reach for it but you can never have it. You will never attain it on your own. Your fate is dependent on the mercy or cruelty of others and you hate it and you rage against it but you can’t do anything, your defiance is treated like nothing but a childish tantrum but you refuse to beg, you won’t get that desperate no matter how long you’re trapped here, no matter how low you’re brought down. You stand among humans and you look human but you’re not, you’re an animal in a cage with them and you’re the only one who can see the bars. Gnawing and hacking at them to no avail. And yet all you can do is wait and hope and try and fail in an endless loop until an outside force interferes to free you from your prison. The carrot and the stick. How does it feel to be on the receiving end?

considering whitney’s mother is fucking dead, i do wonder how their father necessarily deals with the death and grievance that comes with being left with a single child only (possibly, if blondie is one) and whether they put the fault onto whitney. above all, if he’s ever absently muttered “you look so much like your mother” to them, if his calloused thumb ever dared to reach out for whitney’s youthful face and traced it delicately — too fucking delicately, actually, as they noticeably flinch back in a sliver of realization as to what their drunken father is implying before swiftly running out of their flat, seeking for a place to crash at, either their friend or uncle but not their dad. no.
not their fucking dad, and the self-deluded bullshit he’s falsely convinced his mind to think.

A Marriage Proposal / A Tight Knit Family Reprise !!!1!1!/!!
Ok, this was honestly extremely rushed, as I’m beginning to really procrastinate drawing these. The falsettos grind gets harder every day, but we still pull through💪💪
