i would rather the batfam not be complete idiots when it comes to their interpersonal relationships with each other, but i can buy it. they're bats, they're weird, that's their thing, fine. it's the part where they're also making characters like superman - more importantly, clark kent - act atrociously towards their children that i start squinting suspiciously at DC and distrusting their character writing

which circles back to my initial instinct that the bats don't have to be Like That - at least not that intensely

there needs to be a middle ground between wayne family adventures freaky pod people dimension characterisation and comic book toxic masculinity characterisation. it's the same balance that filmmakers would have to find if they decided to make a batman + fam adaptation; the characters are imperfect and flawed and they hurt each other because they're people in the world who can't really do therapy on account of their double lives, but it's not malicious. the care comes first.

the family part needs to be equally as present as the bat part, because otherwise, what are we even doing here?
