don’t think it should be a crazy take to understand that by definition systems are a collection of dissociated self states found in people with complex dissociative disorders (DID, OSDD, UDD, etc). that’s what the word system means in this context, and is the definition used in books and scientific literature about systems.

complex dissociative disorders are seen by years of research and testimony to be caused by childhood trauma. systems are a symptom of CDDs, meaning systems are caused by childhood trauma. a system is just one of the symptoms of having a complex dissociative disorder, and things like CPTSD, amnesia, dissociation, depersonalization/derealization, depression/suicidal tendencies are also symptoms.

systems are a symptom of a disorder that is caused by repeated childhood trauma. it’s a life saving defense mechanism our brains had to create to protect ourselves from the trauma. the brain dissociates to keep us from experiencing the traumatic events directly. that is why systems exist. that’s it.

it’s not an identity it’s just a symptom of a disorder. if that’s not what you’re experiencing then system just isn’t the right term

Watching Gravity Falls for the first time in 2024 is certainly an experience.

Because there is a lot of fandom overlap, so of course I’ve seen fanart before, but I didn’t have the context for it.

So I entered Gravity Falls with two key pieces of knowledge:

1. There is apparently toxic triangle yaoi.

2. Everybody is a CHICKEN.

I do not feel comfortable being openly homosexual in the company of “queer” people. Even hinting that I experience absolutely no attraction to the male sex is stressful, because often this results in a bunch of questions that equally feel like bafflement and interrogation. “What about THESE men?” No, not them either. No men. “But this man identifies as a woman!” I am not wired to be attracted to pronouns. “What about this man? He’s femme!” He is still a man, and I am still a lesbian. “So just no men at all?” YES. What is so hard to understand about that? Why can’t you just accept that female homosexuality exists, that it isn’t an evil ideology, and that it’s just how I and many other women are born? Why can you accept and understand so many things, but draw the line at a woman having no interest in the male sex?

OK let's settle this whole "Katniss doesn't love Peeta!" "Katniss and Peeta shouldn't have ever gotten together!" nonsense

Before the 74th Games even begins, Katniss takes note of Peeta: What he does, how good he is at wrestling, who exactly he loses to during wrestling. How odd for a girl hyper-focused on her survival and food, to pay attention this closely to him. Katniss even said it herself: She'd been keeping tabs on the boy with the bread.

When Peeta compliments her during the chariot rides, she literally gets a feeling of warmth rushing through her body. Remember, at this point, Katniss knows she shouldn’t get too close to him, yet she can’t stop herself from feeling warm after Peeta’s compliment.

The dinner after Katniss’ fiasco at the Training Center, she’s super upset and scared. But a quick talk from Haymitch and Peeta gets her to calm down, and she even laughs and grins at Peeta’s jokes. This is the girl who said it was MONTHS before she returned Gale’s smiles in the woods, and that was in much better circumstances. She said that usually only Prim can pull a good laugh out of her, yet here Peeta pulls an easy smile and laugh from her, in arguably still pretty terrible circumstances.

After Seneca Crane announces that the rules have reverted to the original, that only one of them can win, Peeta begins to unbandage his wounds. And Katniss frantically tries to place them back, and you know exactly what she says here? “... If he[Peeta] dies, I’ll never go home, not really. I’ll spend the rest of my life in this arena, trying to think my way out.” And this is still the very first book, so isn’t it odd that a girl that cares so little about Peeta said this?

In the final page of the book, Katniss says: Already, the boy with the bread is slipping away from me. I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I will finally have to let go. Katniss is upset that Peeta is already distancing himself, but she’s just so unsure of her situation that she can’t sort out her feelings. But one thing she is sure of is that she does NOT want to lose the boy with the bread. He’s been on her mind for years now, and she cannot lose him.

I’ve seen people say that they didn’t believe Katniss grew to care for Peeta after “fake-caring” about him for a long time. Because she DIDN’T fake-care. She cared so much, but she was wrapped up in so many terrible circumstances. She always cared, from the start, from the very beginning, her love just grew stronger from there forward.

CATCHING FIRE:

To start with the obvious, she feels safe when sleeping next to Peeta. He’s her only escape from nightmares, and she feels comforted by him. She even insists that he should wake her up if he needs to because Katniss wants to comfort him, too. Peeta is her main, primary source of peace and comfort and she was sad to sleep alone again after the Victory Tour.

A little while after the Quarter Quell gets announced, Katniss instantly begins fighting for Peeta’s life, making a deal with Haymitch and that is her MAIN.FOCUS. All throughout the Training Center, she’s thinking about one thing: Keeping him alive. Pulling crazy stunts in front of the Gamemakers so they wouldn’t focus on Peeta’s rebellious acts. Accepting with remorse that other tributes had to die for Peeta to survive. Hoping her family would put Peeta’s pearl next to her dead body when he makes it out alive. I don’t understand how people say she doesn’t care about him when she’s literally fighting tooth and nail to keep him alive, to keep him safe.

Katniss is an unreliable narrator: She doesn’t always talk abt smaller details either because she doesn’t know them or doesn’t care to say it. But with Peeta, girl she will write a whole biography abt it. She yapped abt his EYELASHES for like an entire paragraph. She doesn’t provide any family history, heck not even her moms name, any district history, but she sure as hell will yap abt her crush’s appearance for pages. If that isn’t a sign of her attraction to him…

When Peeta gets hit by the force field and his heart temporarily stops, Katniss goes WILD. Sobbing, making choked noises, crying so hard that both Finnick and Peeta were shocked. Remember, Katniss is super good at hiding emotions, wiping them clean off her face. In the 74th Games, she sometimes forced herself to keep a straight face so whenever Prim was watching, she wouldn’t feel extra concerned. Yet the second she thinks Peeta might die, she completely freaks out.

It’d be impossible to talk abt Everlark’s development without mentionjng the beach scene. Because in that scene Katniss knows for. sure. She wants this boy so much. She realizes she’ll be completely gone if Peeta is gone as well. She wants him to kiss her and she just wants HIM. (also…she usually only kisses Gale out of pity <3) The very second she got the news that Peeta was kidnapped, oh she went insane. Apeshit crazy, like she was banging her head against the table and attacking Haymitch and even said that she barely had the will to live anymore-That’s just how deeply Peeta’s kidnapping wounded her

MOCKINGJAY:

To sum it all up, Katniss is heartbroken. Way over the edge in her grief over Peeta. Even before the hijacking, before she realized what Snow would really do to Peeta, she was a complete mess. Nightmares, refusing to stick to schedule, hiding in places, etc etc. and this gets worse as she realizes that he’s not going to die: His life will be so much worse than death, it’ll be hell. This crushes her as she completely breaks down sobbing in front of the camera team and Haymitch and literally had to be drugged after slipping into hysteria.

And then after the hijacking? She’s out throwing herself into dangerous situations, doing anything and everything to get him off her mind. He is much too painful to think about.

Also important to note: She treasures the pearl Peeta gave her THE WHOLE BOOK. A reminder of the boy with the bread, a token of his love and care. A reminder of the boy she LOVES.

When Peeta joined the squad, Katniss was cold and mean at first, yes, but only as a defense mechanism. It only took a quick pep talk from Haymitch to get her back on track. Because Katniss and Peeta protect each other. And when Peeta asks questions abt their favorite colors, she just spills out so many mundane, odd little facts about Peeta. All the way down to how he ties his shoelaces. In the barely-one-year-ish they knew each other(Majority of that year being in terrible situations) she learned abt this boy all the way down to little facts like that. Katniss just KNOWS him so well. She just notices things about him and knows him.

When Peeta starts to slip during a mutt attack and fears he might lose control, Katniss kisses him. Hard, fiercely, kisses him and begs him to stay with her. Katniss needs Peeta, she needs him to stay with her, because he is her primary source of comfort and peace. She knew it was a long shot, yet she kissed him anyway because of this longing.

After Primrose dies and Katniss is back in District 12, she is not doing well at all. Her hair is tangled and matted, nails long and dirty and she’s just not motivated to take care of herself. But the very minute Peeta came? With the primroses in his hand? She found her strength, she changed clothes and washed up and tidied up. Peeta gives her strength, just him being around for a few minutes can motivate her to do more and do better.

Katniss talks abt how Peeta helps her with nightmares afterward, and again, it’s another sign of how Peeta just makes her feel SAFE. Good, warm, at peace. Not to mention the memory book she did with him! Another sign of them moving on peacefully after the war, of loving and living but never forgetting.

Katniss literally calls Peeta her dandelion, her sign of HOPE AND LOVE, a promise life can GO ON AND BE GOOD. She literally says “Only Peeta can give me that.” Peeta means the world to her!

Most importantly: In the end, Katniss has children and is able to recover from her biggest fear of the books: Being unable to protect little kids in a world like Panem, whether they’re her kids or siblings or friends. Peeta allowed her to move on and retain her faith in humanity and still love as brightly and vividly as ever.

(I wrote this whole thing in under 30 mins so I most definitely missed some other important points. Please lmk if you’ve got anything to add! :D)

I remember, when I just started learning English, being SO dumbstruck at the concept of missing someone like i couldn’t comprehend what do y’all meant by “I miss YOU?????” Tf??? Wdym I miss you?? You’re the one that I miss??? I know it makes sense to you guys but before I was just like WTF?? cuz in french we say TU me manques-> basically YOUR absence is making me miss you/ you’re missing FROM ME.

And saying I miss you was like saying Je te manque in french which is like saying “you miss me” instead of “I miss you”

So I = Je, miss = manque, You= te

Oh so ->Je te manque? wrong! Tu me manques? Yes

And Tu = You, me (muh) manques = miss me (me is I in this context)

So does it means ->You miss me? NOPE! I miss you

See why I was losing my mind back then?

And it’s so mind blowing when you finally understand that french focuses on how the person’s absence is affecting you: you are the one suffering from the other’s absence, TU me manques -> your absence is making me miss you. Or the fact that you are not here is making me miss you (that’s how I explain it to myself lol)

But English focuses on how the speaker feel the person’s absence: I miss you -> I AM feeling your absence

I probably didn’t explain it right cuz now that I understand it perfectly it kinda blurs in my head and it’s like wait why was this confusing already?? Both make perfect sense??? ugh but I hope i got my point across 😭😭

Okay wait I’m suddenly 100% bought in on Moiraine and Siuan being Birgitte-Gaidal Cain style soulmates, meaning that Siuan is right now in TAR waiting for Moiraine. The promises of “in this life or the next” and “I’ll find you/I’ll wait for you every time” are not just about the cyclical turning of the wheel, but come from the fact that Moiraine and Siuan literally do this over and over and in between they wait together in TAR. Siuan is in TAR, she knows who Moiraine is, and now she just has to wait for her to return to her. Siuan Sanche does wait for only one woman, after all!

That reconciles Rafe’s comments about us seeing Siuan again (and maybe even the angel emoji??) and his comment that you can already tell how they set up their endgame, without it being reduced to flashbacks and a brief epilogue moment which feels really trite and glib and not meeting the moment. He also calls them soulmates in that Q&A 👀

Plus we’ve already seen them in dreams together. Siuan clearly has a connection to the dream world. Even their ter’angreal hut was a world of their own creation that they visited at night. The roles that they play in the narrative are roles that we need over and over if we are to defeat the dark - they are the instigation, the inspiration. They don’t just show us a beautiful love story of dedication and sacrifice, but they are the very water that turns the wheel and thus a cornerstone of every age.

i’ve been attempting to understand for a while why i hate so much that a video of the january 6th insurrection was used in star trek, and aside from how much it confuses the timeline (eugenics wars in the 90s, nuclear winter in the early 21st century, but somehow all sorted out by 2016 and trump was elected president?), i think i’ve found part of my problem with it.

it just seems like an easy cop out to get ‘progressive points’, a quick way for the writers to show you where they stand, without even an attempt to fit it into the timeline in a way that makes sense.

my main issue is that star trek has, of course, always dealt with complicated issues, but it used to be so much more thought out. there used to be metaphors, allegories, explanations that actually made sense (though sometimes it wasn’t spelled out for you) . The Cloud Minders, Let That Be Your Last Battlefield (tos) and The High Ground (tng) are just a few episodes off the top of my head, that deal with similar, difficult, situations. Even episodes like A Private Little War, which clearly hasn’t aged well, was very obviously an allegory for proxy wars, a very real and pertinent issue at the time it came out.

but the thing is, you have to think between the lines to understand them, none of them are so heavy handed as to just directly show a video of a historical event just to say “hey guys this is bad”, like it was only put there to prove the point that the show runners don’t support that.

one issue this brings up for me is, while trying to find others that agree with me on this i just keep coming across the sentiment “politics shouldn’t be in star trek”. if you’ve managed to miss the politics this whole time then i regret to inform you that your skull may be made of lead.

it’s hard to discuss real opinions on a show when so much of the criticism is flooded with “it’s too woke!! why is there politics in star trek!!!”

star trek has always been an overwhelmingly progressive show, (accounting for the fact that it started in the 60s of course) but unfortunately a lot of people have managed to miss that, a lot of the progressive points have ‘aged out’ of the show, and no longer make the point they used to as clearly as they would have had you watched them when they came out. now it seems that writers are overcompensating to drive home the point that it’s a progressive show.

to people who missed how progressive it already was, this makes it look unnecessarily ‘woke’ and like it came out of nowhere, for the rest of us who were paying attention, it seems very heavy handed and like they’re trying too hard to achieve something that old trek did effortlessly.

I want to be clear that I’m talking about this not to be mean, but because it’s something that has bothered me for years now, and have wanted to talk about for a while.

This Spindlehorse logo:

Is (in my opinion™) one of the least appealing designs for a logo and icon I have ever seen. I think it is so poorly designed, to the point that it took me around 1–2 years to finally see what it was—the “spindle horse” crammed into a tiny box.

Even then, the only reason I was able to figure it out is because I finally saw a version of it that was bigger. It looks even more muddled when it’s smaller—which I would assume is usually how people see it, and was the only place I saw it for a long time:

The way its legs are SO THIN makes them just look like zig zagging lines—the way they’re cut off by the circular logo kept me from realizing they were even connected to the body. They look really random and it’s completely unclear as to what they are.

The horse’s mane being the same color as the background heart kept me from realizing it was supposed to be just that, and the horses head is so slim and it’s eye is so big that I thought its head was part of the trademark big eyelashes a lot of Hellaverse characters have. 

For the longest time I thought the logo was like. An owl type bird’s profile? But a really weird abstract one—with the horses’s mane being the beak and then the horses head being the eyelashes?

Even then, I still had NO idea what it was supposed to be, until I saw the larger/non-cut off version of the logo. The heart in the background is also weirdly off center? Not that everything HAS to be centered but it doesn’t really add much to the overall design. It’s just a random heart in the background.

What’s odd to me though is that Spindlehorse DOES have, what I consider to be, another logo that is much easier to understand visually while also being WAY more appealing:

I really like this logo! I think it’s really well designed!

You can see clearly what it is, it has a really nice form and use of empty space. I love that the hip bone is also a little heart, it gives the design a little bit of extra character to it.

It is a simple design that is still unique and really pleasant to look at. You can immediately tell what it is, and even though the design is simple, it has enough variation to give it a personality, like the heart hipbone or the curl in the horses’s tail.

I just. Have NO idea why this isn’t the logo or icon used on all their channels. I think it’s genuinely a really good logo, and it’s weird to me that it’s not the logo used for Spindlehorse’s shark-robot shop and YouTube channel.

Obvs the company can use whatever logo they like, but I just find it REALLY ODD that the official channel continues to use the old one.

I’m thinking about how Lalo would have felt if he did kill Gus and had time to really sit with everything that happened. I feel like he’s really good at pushing things down and Nacho and Gus both being dead would just make him go “welp, I guess there’s nothing left to do with that, and I don’t care and I’m perfectly fine.” But it would be a lie and he’d sometimes be sitting with someone who also knew Nacho and he’d be like “I wonder what his problem was…Like, he didn’t like me? Why? I didn’t do anything to him…It just doesn’t make sense.” And I think he would never really understand or figure it out and it’d eat him up inside and just be another reason he can’t sleep, but he’d go around acting like he doesn’t even remember Nachos name
