Summary: On Naboo, Padmé shares her favourite dessert with Anakin. Vader is haunted by the memory of it.

Relationship: Anakin x Padmé, Vader x Padmé

The dead of night. Vader, alone.

In the gloom nothing but the noise of labored breathing. In, out. In, out. Over and over, again and again. Harsh and ragged, mechanical sound. Its drone was a curse to anyone who heard it. Even him. Especially him.

His breathing slowed. His heart rate came to match. He relished the fall into nothingness. Away from injury. Away from himself. If he could only split apart, atom by atom. The dream: to become nothing completely.

In, out. In, out. Over and over, again and again. Machines keeping a machine alive, hate the only fuel of the man still dwelling within. Prisoner of charred flesh floating in his own dark ocean. Acid taste on the tip of his tongue.

And then the sound of birds. Oh, the sound of birds. Mercy. He had fallen away again. Five minutes of Anakin once more. Five minutes of … but he could not bear her name.

In the summer sun the lake at Varykino always shimmered silver. This was one of the facts Anakin had come to learn in the handful of days he’d spent there since his marriage. Never a week all at once, no—days snatched here and there over the course of months. Stolen time was what Anakin's marriage was made of. That, and the hole in his chest whenever she wasn't around; a pain worse than losing his arm. He vowed he would lose every part of himself if it meant he wouldn't lose her . 

But Anakin would lose her, a big part of him feared it and a smaller part knew it. Their time together was short, darling buds blooming in the brief span of summer, and one day he would wake up and it would all be …

NGL I am tempted to, when Never Shall We Die is finished (this time next year perhaps?) to get it bound in a book with all the art I've made for it.

(and also print a cover page to have it signed by Rhysie, Con and VIco when I'm in NYCC this October. If anyone who reads this is there, I'd love to say hi) Is it indulgent? Too much? Maybe. But I also wonder if anyone who reads it would be interested... Honestly though what I would have to do is to do several volumes of it hahaha since um 400k words is a LOT of book.
