Hot. Too hot. The back of your neck was damp, and you wondered whether your new bedding really conserved that much heat. But you were comfortable; for the first time in a while you didn’t feel groggy or reluctant to pull away the duvet and start your day… five more minutes maybe. You snuggled further into your pillow and blankets around you, but upon feeling a firm pressure squeeze your shoulders your eyes snapped open, now aware that your pillow wasn’t usually this hard, nor was it heated. There was something heavy draped around your shoulders, and this room was clearly not your own.
It was neat, with fresh clothes folded on top of the dresser standing opposite the foot of the double bed you were in. You were uncomfortably conscious of the fact that the rising and falling of sheets in your limited vision was in fact due to the human being sleeping next to you. You did not remember going out last night. Were you drugged on your way home? Did you drink too much and end up calling an ex again? Did you imagine getting home? God, you knew that co-worker was bad news.
The sharp lashings of a cringe whipped through you as you scanned the room once more, eyes catching on a flicker of blue clothing hanging on the wall. Your heart skipped a beat when you recognised the blue, red and white one-piece, complete with a star badge fastened to the chest. No way. Do you even know any Captain America fans? You definitely didn’t have anyone in your friend group who would be a big enough fan to cosplay, at least. If it were to be anyone, you’d get the ‘most likely to’ award.
The stirring of the person next to you sparked your heart into thumping loudly against your chest.
Not yet, not yet! Not done processing!
If there was anything you learned from the movies, it was to play it cool until you figured it out. And you know you just need to be smart about it and hope that your social panic won’t trip you up. Because the sheets had slipped, and your cheek was now resting on the skin of a man’s chest. You haven’t even seen his face yet. When he cleared his throat softly, it rumbled through his chest.
“Hey… what’s got you so worked up?” That voice. That’s familiar. Fingers started working at your shoulder facing up, gently massaging the muscle underneath them. “You haven’t taken a breath in a minute.” His voice was low, and wrapped in fatigue, but it was undeniably one that belonged to Chris Evans. Baffled, you pushed yourself up on your hand, unwilling to believe it. But there he was, smiling up at you as if you were the only person in his world. You glanced back at the suit, noticing now that on the floor rested the shield. Captain America’s shield. Did he manage to swipe that from set? Nice.
His hand found its way to your hips, his thumb slipping under your shirt to rub slow circles into your skin. At least you recognised your pyjamas. You exhaled carefully, returning your eyes to his and noting the ever so slight crease in his brow. He was concerned. Right.
“Sorry… bad dream,” You said finally, eyes still scanning the room for anything that could tell you how you got here. Nothing caught your eye. He pushed himself to sit up, then, against the headboard, springs protesting weakly under his weight. The sheets slipped further to his waist and you realised that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. Averting your eyes quickly, because heaven knows you would have stared otherwise, you tried to think back to what you last remembered.
You finished work, and came home. Yes, you distinctly remember going to sleep, because you had to battle with your covers to keep them on your bed. You could be dreaming, then. Just a horrifically realistic lucid dream. What were those checks people say to use? While lucid dreaming, looking at the clock at two different intervals will yield dramatically different results.
“What’s the time?” You asked, adding in a yawn to complete the dazed, just-woken-up look. Chris looked you up and down once suspiciously, making you swallow nervously. Had you been found out so quickly?
“You okay?”
“Of course, why?”
“You just… usually elaborate on these things. Not that you always have to, but I’m worried. You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” He said, holding out his arms in an invitation for a hug. Okay, maybe you played it a little too casual. You accepted his invitation and settled into his side, trying to ignore how comfortable it felt, how your nerves about the situation ebbed away quickly. It didn’t matter if you were dreaming or not, you were going to enjoy this moment of feeling safe. His hand clamped against your forehead for a few moments, and when he was satisfied with his assessment, he let his hand fall down your face, stroking your nose on the way down.
Feeling brave, you picked up the spare hand that wasn’t holding your side and began to play with his fingers. Unable to bullshit a believable nightmare, you decided to twist the truth of a recent one that you did, in fact, have. To Chris Evans. If it wasn’t for his openness, (and the whole ‘waking up together” thing) this would have felt extremely inappropriate.
“I was running from something. It was dark enough that I couldn’t see anything. But I was really scared. Like if I didn’t run fast enough someone was going to- um. Pass away, violently,” the euphemistic language felt silly, but a part of you just couldn’t get the actual words out. “And then I turned the corner, and I saw you. Just, lying there. Your clothes were stained with…” You trailed off, hearing your voice breaking as you recounted the nightmare you had starring your best friend. “I couldn’t stop it.”
If it was possible, Chris pulled you even closer into his side, close enough for you to catch the calming scent of lavender which you assumed was his shampoo.
“Sweetheart,” He spoke so lovingly that you almost forgot you didn’t know anything about the guy. “It’s okay. I’m here. I’m alive, see? I will always be here, no matter what. Feel this?” He tightened his hold on you. You nodded, grasping his large hand in yours. “As long as I have you, I have someone to live for. And I take that very seriously. I know Buck upset you yesterday and put that idea in your head, but he didn’t mean it.”
Buck upset you? Bucky Barnes upset you? Not Sebastian?
“Hmm?” Chris- no, Steve, hummed, encouraging you to reply.
“I know, I’m sorry.”
“No, I didn’t mean that! Look, how about we get ready and meet everyone for breakfast?”
You nodded and your heart soared when you felt a soft kiss placed on the crown of your head, before he shifted. The warmth of his arm left you, allowing goosebumps to dot your arms. When he stood up, only in his pyjama pants, you once again averted your eyes. Heat rushed to your cheeks, and you hoped your flustered state wasn’t noticeable. Feeling his eyes on you again as he pulled on a shirt, you pulled the covers away yourself. Panic struck you when you realised that you weren’t sure whether your clothes would be in the same place as his, but followed your instinct to the dresser in an attempt to look like you knew what you were doing. What happens when he discovers that you’re a stranger? What was ‘your’ life like here? There’s one way to find out.

When you first meet him it’s 5am and raining. You’re switching over shifts for your friend, Rita, because she’s been doing night shifts at the diner. This late into her pregnancy she shouldn’t be working, not technically, but she needs the money and she’s got insomnia because of the baby, so she works nights now. There’s always someone working with her, be it Joe (who’s got far too much muscle for a chef) or Lola (who can beat anyone to a pulp with a pie tray). In the early hours of the morning a bunch of tatt’ed bikies come and sit and talk about their extracurricular activities (definitely not legal) because one time there was an armed hold up and the police didn’t turn up until two hours after it had happened. People don’t like holding up a diner full of men who eat their own motorbikes for breakfast.
But when he comes in, he’s not any of them. He’s not even one of Lola’s nightly hook-ups (she needs the money, you don’t ask). He’s too well dressed in a grey suit (or is it black? Maybe it’s black), trying desperately to shove his I.D. badge in his pocket. He has a look about him that says ‘I’m part of one of the alphabet soup agencies’. A smile on his face, dead in the eyes, and the weight of the world on his shoulders. He fumbles with his wallet as he squints to read the menu behind the counter. The rain’s stopped dripping from his hair, instead he’s got droplets like his woken with the morning dew upon him.
“Hi love,” Rita coos as she hangs her apron up. She has a look about her that says she’ll eat this man for her breakfast. It’s an effort not to curse those pregnancy hormones some days.
“Go home,” you tell her, swatting her arm. “Put your feet up, rest, sleep while the baby does or some shit.” Rita sticks her bottom lip out and pouts, but she’s making grabby hands for her purse, which is stored where the tea towels used to be. Far too high to reach even when one’s not pregnant. You grab it down for her, ignoring the showering of thank-yous.
The new guy (who is getting more and more handsome by the second) is still looking at the menu. He doesn’t look like he’s going to stop looking and order any time soon.
“Are you sure you’re fine to take the metro in this weather?” you check. She’s rubbing her swollen belly and looking longingly at the booths that haven’t had anyone sit in them for hours now. 
“Wait forty-five minutes and I’ll take you!” Joe yells. He’s slaving over something in the kitchen even though it looks like no one’s ordered in hours. “Wife gave me the car ‘cause of the storm!”
“Forty-five,” you repeat and point her towards the seat that she’s been eyeing off. Rita sighs, nods, then goes out to the seat. “What can I get you?” Usually when addressing the customer you’d add something gentle like ‘sweetheart’ or ‘love’ or ‘dear’ because the customers like it and they come back because they think you’re treating them like a long lost friend.
He bats his dark eyelashes and rubs at his forehead.
“I don’t know.” He sounds tired, balancing on the very edge of exhaustion. He might just fall off into a pit of sleep that he won’t wake up from. Been there, done that. “Do you guys do coffee?”
You laugh and point to the brewed pot beside you. There’s one for each table, free refills with a pie purchase. It’s written in decorative lettering right above you on the blackboard.
“We can put it in a take-away cup. It’s before six so it’s free anyway,” you offer. The last bits a lie, but Joe doesn’t care about a cup or two of coffee going missing. He’ll catch it up later when he flirts with all of the mom’s coming through after school drop off. The new guy nods and pulls out a ten dollar note and shoves it in the tip jar. You raise an eyebrow at him, but he nods anyway. He’s like a broken bobblehead.
“I know.” He goes to the sweets display and searches through it like he’s looking for something specific. Maybe he is. You’ve not seen him in the diner before, and neither has Rita, but maybe he’s one of Lola’s regulars. Maybe you’d judged him wrong. 
“Anything caught your eye?” you ask, leaning over the counter as if you could see it from his angle too. Maybe you do it to show off just that little bit of cleavage. He notices, then looks like he’s done entirely the wrong thing as he licks his lips and blinks like a school boy.
“S-sorry,” he stammers, and Rita giggles. You point at her and give her a stern look, but she just puts her hand over her mouth and lies down on the seat. She’s still silently giggling because her belly keeps bobbing above the table. 
“I just…” he has that exhausted look on his face again.
“Long day at work?” The answer is always yes for the people who work at the alphabet agencies. He nods. “Take a seat, grab some coffee, take a minute. It’s only just gone five, you’ve got time.” 
He nods. He looks like he’s gotten his words all mixed up and they’re just sitting in his mouth, refusing to leave. Tongue tied doesn’t exactly encapsulate what looks like is going on inside his head. He sits at one of the chairs in front on the counter, and takes the coffee cup gratefully as you pass it to him.
He’s definitely an alphabet soup man. He sits in this weird stance like he’s countering his weight against a gun. His shoulders are hunched forward as if he spends hours a day doing paperwork. He’s got a nervous twitch in his hands like sitting still is only going to bring the next case.
You think about making a joke about turning on the cellphone jammer, but last time Joe made that joke the whole place ended up swarming with cops. Absolute disaster. No one’s going to do that one again. 
“Cherry, berry or apple?” you ask, grabbing a plate.
“Sorry?”
“Cherry, berry or apple?” Rita repeats from her booth. “For the pie, sweetheart.”
“Uh, I didn’t—“
“Eat it,” Rita growled. You pull a face at her even though she can’t see you. The guy smiles.
“Apple, please.” Well mannered. Sweet. He looks elated as you slide the apple pie to him and hand him the canned cream.
“Not as good as fresh, but it’s better than nothing.” 
He puts a generous amount on his plate. You half think he might like it more than proper cream. Rita leans up just enough to look at him as he digs in, fanning herself playfully before sighing and collapsing back down.
Joe brings out his tray of caramel salted cookies. They’re thick enough to look like cakes with a gooey caramel center, and they usually sell out pretty quickly. The new guy watches them intently.
“How much trouble am I going to get into if I give those to my son?” 
“How old is he?”
“Ten.”
You smile. That’s a good age. “How much do you hate his teacher?” 
He considers this with a gentle tilt of his head. “Not a lot. I’ll give it to him after school.” He pulls out his wallet again and Joe looks like he’s just hit the mother lode as he grabs one of the cardboard boxes. 
“If you really want to spoil your kid, y/n here can write really pretty on top.” You glare at Joe. He shrugs. He’s covered in cake batter and cookie dough, and smells like pancake batter. He’s always smelling sickly sweet, and like a well lived in home, despite looking like the living embodiment of Gaston. “She does it for my wife all the time.”
The handsome man’s phone buzzes. He checks it, then shovels the rest of his pie in his mouth like a starved man. 
“I have to go,” he says. He gives Joe another ten and tells him to keep the change. Joe looks like he’s about to break into a song and dance. You pour a fresh cup of coffee into a take-away cup and slide it across the counter to him. He thanks you a thousand times over then goes. With his cookie.
“Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?” Rita screeches the moment the door shut with it’s little jingle. “I’ll-show-him-my-cleavage-but-I-won’t-ask-his-name?? No wonder you can’t get a date!”
“I’ll do it next time.” Not that there’s ever a ‘next time’ for these alphabet soup agents. They’re always looking for the next place to go to so they don’t have a ‘regular place’ that can be ambushed. 
But in a perfect world... you’d see him every day.

Zemo sat slouching in his seat, one hand hanging out the window of the truck, another draped on the steering wheel. The road stretched out in front of them, disappearing into the shadows of the mountains and forests. The sun was not up yet, it was early morning. 5AM, where no one rose out of bed but the office workers, the labourers, the soldiers coming out of their blanket shells. And where no one entered into slumber but the gravediggers, the night-shifters, the soldiers retreating into their blanket shells. The truck had been trotting along the road for hours, a small brown beetle with its headlights shining pale yellow, framing the one-meter radius ahead of it. Twenty-four hours ago had been when they first kicked the ignition into its churn in the region of Kashgar (a former trading town along the Silk Road), and when the prospects of a proper ceramic toilet had bit the dust. Twenty-four hours come and gone, with Zemo quietly helming the operation.
From Kashgar, they had traveled to Karakul under the cover of night, a journey that had taken them six hours. There had been no scenery of note but white moonlight glinting off the peaks of the two tall snowy mountains, Muztagh Ata and Mount Kongur. The shimmering scales of the Karakul lake had enraptured Zemo for hours, greeting him whenever a sharp jolt in the road woke him from his slumber.
And now, after resting a few hours at a local abode, they continued on to Tashkurgan, where from there they would go right into the borders of Pakistan.
A small muffled sound came from the lump beside him. “What’s the situation?” John mumbled blearily, poking his head through the covers. Zemo cast him a sideline glance, frowning at his sleep-mussed hair and squinted eyes. “It’s not your turn yet.”
With a snort, John closed his eyes again and rolled over, facing away from Zemo. He settled into another deep sleep.
A big, military-looking truck drove by them, momentarily blinding Zemo with its headlights. Heartbeat quickened in his chest, Zemo sat up straighter and observed the truck through the rearview mirror, hoping for its retreat. He glanced quickly towards his small driving compartment, doing a mental catalog of the materials there: a driver’s license, a forged visa to pass the border customs, fake passports with cover identities for himself and Walker… good, very good. All according to plan. Zemo rolled down the windows of his truck slightly, listening intently. The roar of the military truck did not fade into a distant hum. Instead, there was the screech of tires and the sudden whirring which indicated only one thing- Walker had better practiced the cover story that Zemo told him to, or the ensuing events would be catastrophic.
The urgent, piercing honking behind them startled John into wakefulness. He bolted up, then as if realizing that there was nowhere to go, settled back gingerly into his seat. “Zemo…”
Zemo tightened his grip on the wheels. Flexed his knuckles once, twice. Gently, as if petting a startled cat, rolled the ball of his foot over the brakes. “Anderson, don’t panic,” he says with practiced calm. “Remember what we rehearsed?”
“Yeah, Niki,” John replies. Though his face was carefully composed, the telltale twitching of his leg told Zemo otherwise.
All John had to do as Anderson was play the part of a slightly confused USA diplomat, heading from China to Pakistan over some matters of a proposed trade deal. Niki was to be his driver and translator, a man who had been an exchange student in China briefly where he picked up some basic Mandarin. Zemo had learned barely enough to get the both of them through a ten, fifteen-minute exchange. For the rest of his persuasion, he’d have to rely on the forged documents and the facade of confidence. If all went well, they would be sent on their merry way very quickly, and deliver all eight billion dollars worth of SHIELD information straight into the hands of Contessa. Of course, Zemo had taken an innocent, ‘accidental’ look at the confidential information, and deemed it useless enough to give to the woman. If it were anything that he found potentially dangerous, he would dispose of it immediately. Dry kindling could turn into a wildfire in Contessa’s hands, and that was the kind of risk he would never take.
“Stay calm. I will settle it quickly. The officers don’t want to make a big deal out of this either- we will be on our way soon,” he hissed to John as soon as he heard the crunch of boots on the tarmac.
Zemo rolled his window down to the silhouette of a heavily-clad soldier, who was covered head to toe in military gear. His eyes seemed to be narrowed, whether it was from suspicion or simply fatigue.
“有签证吗?” (Do you have a visa?)
“有。” (Yes.) Zemo reached into the compartment and retrieved the documents. The soldier took a quick look at them via the torchlight and passed it back to him. Then, tipping his chin at John- “他是你的朋友?” (Is he your friend?)
“他是我的老板。” (He's my boss.) Zemo struggled to recall the words for a moment. “我帮他翻译。” (I help him to translate.)
“对于游客来说,这时间挺早的。你们从卡拉库尔来的?” (This time of day is quite early for a tourist to be travelling. Are you coming from Karakul?)
Zemo blinked, processing the words. “可以…重复吗?” (Can you... repeat that?)
The guard sighed, then said slowly- “你们从,卡拉库尔,来? ” (You came, from, Karakul?)
The pieces slot into place in his head. 卡拉库尔 - Karakul. You… from… you came from Karakul.
“对,对。抱歉,我的华文不好。” (Yes, yes. Apologies, my mandarin isn't good.)
The guard laughed, but there was no condescension or meanness in it. “对于老外来说,发音挺好。” (For a foreigner, your pronunciation is pretty good.)
He continues, “好,好,谢谢。打扰你了。不多说了,你们走吧。” (Yes, yes, thank you. Sorry for the disturbance, you can go.)
Zemo, displaying the kindest smile he could, nodded and bade the man farewell. He turned off the lights in the car and smirked, knowing John could see it- This is how a professional works.
Another voice rang out, different from the one earlier. “先别走。” (Don't go yet.)
Zemo’s foot froze at the pedal. John’s expression was one of pure confusion and panic, his calmness now barely held together. Through the conversation earlier, Zemo had already sensed him vibrating with stagnant energy, and now it was manifesting in dangerous, careless ways. Zemo quickly reached out to touch John shoulder and calm him down- he's learnt that the other man responded best to physical contact, something he himself detested.
John’s wild gaze lifted to a point above his shoulder and lingered there.
The sharp rapping at the glass behind him are like bullets to his ears.
Zemo turns around, “为何…” (Why...)
His voice died in his throat. Standing there outside the car, equally shocked- Karlen Constantine.
Zemo could recognize that face anywhere. The rounded jaw, the brittle mouth, and that hateful, hateful look in his eyes.
The same look he gave when Zemo framed him for murder and left a two-million-dollar bounty on his head in Madripoor. Eight years ago.
Zemo takes quick stock of the situation. Judging by Constantine’s badges- high ranking. Heavily armed. A long, long road ahead of them. Walker has no shield, not yet. That was still in the process of being manufactured in Romania. Car chases weren’t an option. Evasion wasn’t an option. Anything other than negotiation would lead to their death. Zemo swallowed the saliva that rested heavily on his tongue.
“Karlen, please,” he says. John inhaled loudly behind him, he ignored it.
“You son of a bitch,” Karlen laughed gleefully. “Oh, this has made my day. I’m going to enjoy this.”
“What the fuck is going on, Zemo?” John snarled, ditching the pseudonym. He knew the game was up, the only question was how they were going to get out of this situation.
“Karlen, I’m invaluable to you,” Zemo continues carefully. His heart is pounding wildly in his chest, and it’s taking every iota of energy in him to keep his voice steady, to prevent the wave of panic from engulfing his mind. Any wrong word, any wrong move, and he would be dead within minutes. The car was bulletproof, but at such close range… with a shotgun, no less… Zemo knew the specs of the glass well, but he loathed taking risks. “I can-”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Karlen screamed, spittle hitting the glass. “Both of you, get the fuck out. Hands where I can see them. Slowly. Fucking do it slowly, or I’ll blow a hole in your leg.”
With steady breaths, Zemo complied. He could feel the adrenaline rushing up to his brain, reducing everything to a frantic pulsing in his muscles, the instinctual urge to run or fight. He got out of the car, hands raised to his shoulders, holding John’s gaze steady- don’t do anything rash. Follow my lead. And surprisingly, John did. He followed without a single word of protest, even though Zemo knew he was aching to throw a punch, to smash his fist into someone’s temple, or feel the satisfying recoil of a gun vibrating against his bones.
Zemo felt the cold barrel of a gun pressed between his eyes, at the same time that John jolted forward and cried, “No!”
“Don’t FUCKING move!” Karlen roared again, clicking off the safety. “Stay where you are or I’ll fucking kill him. Zemo, he answers to you, right? Tell him.”
Zemo glanced away to catch John’s horrified stare before his head was painfully yanked back by the roots of his hair. “Hey. Eyes on me. What did I say?”
“John, don’t move,” Zemo said slowly, grimacing as Karlen’s grip tightened.
“Now kneel.”
Zemo complied, breathing heavily. He could feel the fur of his jacket sticking to the back of his neck, and how hot his entire body felt, alight with energy. The aching of his scalp and knees had faded into a dull buzzing, overtaken by the hyperawareness of Karlen, his every movement, and Walker’s unyielding presence at his back.
As if sensing the same, Walker leaned forward carefully to place himself in Zemo's peripheral vision, discreet enough that Karlen wouldn't notice.
"Three years. Three years, I had to run and run and run. All because you stabbed me in the back, like the fucking coward you are. We were friends, but that didn't mean shit to you, did it? I'm glad your fucking wife and kids died. I hope they suffered. Oh yeah, I hope they screamed. I'm going to make this very painful for you too, Zemo."
Zemo's hands were trembling with the force of keeping them from Karlan's throat. It was taking everything he had to restrain himself. He tipped his chin up, looked straight into the matching pair of hateful eyes, and spat at Karlen's feet. "Fuck you."
It barely sounded like his own voice. The hate was thick sewer sludge, bubbling past the broken glass in his throat. A blinding burst of red splattered across his vision- Zemo flinched from the force at which the rage slammed into his mind. I will kill you. I will peel your skin from your bones, bit by bit. You're going to be screaming like a pig by the time I'm done. Constantine, you'll wish you were dead-
Karlen punched him so hard his entire body collapses to the side. Zemo tasted blood on his tongue, and god, it was pouring out of his nose. It wasn't broken, however- he turned his head just in time to prevent that. The lights look blurry- his eyes were watering.

"He's tried," John laughed mirthlessly. His voice dropped into a low growl, a voice meant for spilling dirty little secrets- "Many, many times."
"And guess what, I'm still here. You aren't. A word of advice? Don't take yourself so seriously. You don't mean shit to him if you can't keep yourself around," John continued.
Zemo struggled to push himself back up, panting hard. He can't gather enough air to shout, stop talking. Those words laid like a brand against his skin, spelling out the name John Walker, a possessive claim.
I'm special, John Walker practically crowed.
And Zemo hated that he was right.
"If you like him so much, you can join him." Karlen laughed, raised his gun to John Walker, and fired.
He was fast.
John was faster.
The bullet buried itself harmlessly into the ground. The soldiers startle, reaching for their guns. One shot, Karlen's body dropped. The muffled thump launched Zemo's body into action. His fingers found a gun, and without blinking he whirled and pulled the trigger three times.
A few more shots rang out, and two more men are down.
Zemo swayed on his feet, but before he could collapse, there were strong arms around him, leading him to the car. He's shoved into it in a daze. John Walker entered through the other side, at the wheel.
"Shh. Shh. Hey. Hey, princess, look at me." A damp cloth was pressed into his hands, and he instinctively brought it up to his nose to staunch the bleeding. They're both breathing harshly from the fight. Gunpowder blue eyes stared back at him, brows furrowed. Light glanced off the mirror, staining John's hair a warm golden. Zemo was reminded of his vintage brass rulers, the beautiful old smell they had...
Wait. Light? He lifted his head to see the sunrise, then the time on the electronic clock. 6.05 AM. The tourist buses would be moving out soon, which meant-
"Drive," he whispered, and John kicked the car into high gear without a word.
"I'll text Contessa to put a roadblock on both sides and clear up the scene as quickly as possible. Once at Tashkurgan we'll leave the car, take the tourist bus, and blend in with the rest. I will arrange for Contessa to meet us earlier than was planned. When we arrive in Pakistan, we need to get past the border security. Even though we're compromised, this will not be risky. It's broad daylight and there are too many people at the border to cause a scene. The congestion will be in our favour. Clear?"
"Crystal."
"And the next time, I'll tell Contessa that travelling at night is a bad idea."
John frowned. "Hey, don't blame yourself. No one knew this was going to happen."
"We were nearly killed, John."
"Yeah, what's the big deal? Do you know how many times I've nearly been killed, Zemo? More than I could count. And trust me, this does not even come close." John laughs brightly. "We got outta there fine, yeah? Trust me. Not even close. It was a team effort."
Zemo looked down, and saw the slight quivering of his leg that John tried to hide. He dragged his eyes up to John's face, and recognised the tiny, near-imperceptible strain in his eyes... something you would not catch unless you were specifically looking for it.
You can be a really good liar if you tried, John.
"You're special to me, you know." the words came out in a rush, stumbling over one another. It sounded like a confession, and Zemo hated how it made his heart stutter, how his hands tingled, how the pain and the anger faded away into a schoolboy-nervousness.
The entire world, bottled down to a single response.
And he waited for an answer with bated breath, though he was uncertain of the question he had asked, if any at all.
My ending thoughts:
John Walker tells Zemo about love, like how a parent tells their child about the unobservable universe, about the untouched depths of the ocean, as if whispering: don't fear the unknown, for we'll explore it together.

Angel - Chapter 3
ITS HERE ITS FINALLY HERE IM SO SORRY. UGH THAT TOOK SO LONG.
but there it is chapter three. I literally wrote most of this chapter while i was in the lobbies of among us games.

As the sun rose on the city, your alarm decided to screech its ugly voice across the whole apartment. Why you had decided that waking up at 5am, when you didn’t start work at your new job in Lord Industries at 9am, was absolutely beyond you. You chalked it up to nerves. I mean sure, you were fucking the owner and CEO but that doesn’t mean you’re going to become complacent about this position. Not only were you working in the largest company in most of the country, but you were also Head Marketing for your city’s division. 
           You started your day as you would any other workday, groaning and convincing yourself that leaving bed was worth it. After that, it was coffee and shower time, and if you were lucky you could throw in a cigarette on the balcony, and since you didn’t need to leave for another 4 and a half hours you thought you might just test your luck with multiple. 
Halfway through your shower you heard the phone ringing, you trudged out to the phone wondering who in god’s name was calling at 4:23am. To your great (and welcomed) surprise, it was Darius. “My dearest I’ve been told to inform you that I will be picking you up today, I’ll be at your door by 7:30. So, be ready.” 7:30? That was a whole hour before you were planning on leaving the comfort and security of your new home. 
           “Darius, I didn’t think we started until 9am why are you picking me up so early?” you queried. 
“Well, it seems Maxwell doesn’t want you catching a cab but also did not offer for me to take you both so obviously this means that I will be picking you up first and making me work extra hard.” 
           Oh. he doesn’t want to ride with you to work. You considered that it was perhaps because he didn’t want to incite rumors, but you found it strange, but nonetheless you told Darius that this would be fine and that you would see him at 7:30. An hour early. 
Only you didn’t see Darius at 7:30, in fact you didn’t even see him at 8, it wasn’t until 8:15 hit that you heard any word from him. “Darius I was just about to call a cab you never came? Is everything okay?” 
“Well, it seems Mr. Lord has contracted an illness, called a hangover. I picked him up at 6:30 to get McDonalds. I’ve already dropped him at work, I suspect he’s napping in his office as we speak.” you couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of Max laying on the floor of his office completely passed out. “I’ll be down in a moment, just let me pick out my shoes.” you said back to him, “ahh so I’ll see you by sundown.” Darius quipped back in a lighthearted way. If things ever went belly up with Max, you really hoped you could keep Darius around. 
The ride to the building was filled with the banter you’d become accustomed to with Darius, until you were pulling up to a big silver building, the largest in the city, obviously. You were in absolute shock and awe when you stepped out of the car, you’d thought for a moment in time, ‘woah, this is what ants feel like.’
“Hello ma’am could I see your ID and security badge please?” were the first words you heard when you walked through the doors to the lobby, you stammered over your sentences confused, you didn’t have a security badge, you didn’t realise you’d need one, Maxwell had never mentioned it. “Thank you, Keith, that won’t be necessary, Miss Y/N here is our new head of marketing, I’ve been tasked by Maxwell to escort her to his office.” Darius said coming up behind you. You hadn’t even realised that he had left the car, but here he was escorting you up the escalators. “Ahh yes, I see, of course.” the security guard, Keith, said with a sly smile and a wink. You knew what that meant, and it churned your stomach to think about. How many times had Max given his one-night stands jobs? If he was willing to do it for you, he was willing to do it for others.

“And you are mine, dear, but before we begin planning the wedding might I suggest food?” he places the coffee down on the table and what you can now see are croissants. Hmm, 4 coffees, 4 croissants. And as if on cue Darius mutters that he’ll be back as he needs to deliver Max his lunch. 
“I didn’t realise you were already in with Darius. That man took me four years to crack, another two for him to start bringing me food, and here you are on your first day on a first name basis? Who did you fuck to get that treatment?” oh god had she caught on? Does this happen a lot? Does Max give jobs to everyone he fucks? Your mind is running a million miles an hour when you sheepishly laugh and tell some lie about how Darius was an old friend. She seemed to buy it as she moved on to talking more about marketing and what you’ll need to do. 
Soon it was the end of the day and Darius was back at your door telling you to meet him at the car. You said goodbye to Sookie and apologized for stopping her from working.

           Exiting the car, the barrage of flashes and yelling hit you like a wall, it was a wonder you didn’t freeze up under the pressure, but you walked next to Max with all the poise and confidence you could muster. The photographers were yelling questions at Max, not at you, but they were all asking about you, you kept your head forward and so did Maxwell. He didn’t say anything while walking past them and up the stairs, his expression only changed after entering the building. He turned to you and praised your level of composure before leading you up to two large doors. On the other side you could hear music and chatter, you wondered why you weren’t entering until you heard an announcer say “Folks, I’m sure were all having an absolute stellar time, but I’d like to draw your attention to the man of the hour, Mr. Maxwell Lord.” his voice rang out over large speakers as the doors opened and Maxwell lead you into the ballroom to polite applause. 
           You were stunned at how many people there were standing in the ballroom, you stood there feeling quite awkward at the stares that were being passed your way and the slight glares coming from some of the women, (and a few men) in the room. 
           “My friends and guests, thank you all so much for coming tonight and while I can appreciate that you would all like to go back to drinking my champagne id first like to introduce someone to you, your new head of marketing for Lord Industries, Miss Y/N Y/L/N. I’m sure she’ll fit right in with us and help us continue to be the frontier for this country.” Max had an excellent public speaking voice; he commanded the room, and you couldn’t lie. You got kind of wet seeing him so, for lack of a better word, bossy. 
           Max leaned in and whispered to you, “go mingle, if you need anything Darius will be floating around.” and then he was gone leaving you to your devices. 
           Thankfully, Sookie found you almost immediately, “I just knew he’d leave you floundering the moment you got here, he’s probably already in the bathrooms giving one of his assistants a ‘bonus’ doesn’t worry sweetheart I’ve got you covered ill introduce you to the actual important people.” and so she did. Within the hour you’d met the head of sales, Mary, head of finance, Samuel, and their assistants, Lorelai, and June. she showed you (but absolutely did not introduce you to) the head of Human Resources, Marcus, who was (in her words) a total douchebag, the head of purchasing, Manny, who apparently would want to corrupt you, you didn’t want to ask what that meant but you had some idea and wanted to laugh because if only Sookie knew. By the time you’d met Jenny, lady who ran the coffee shop in the lobby, Darius had found you both and you sighed a breath of relief, you loved Sookie, but you still weren’t too familiar with her. 
           “My dear you look exquisite I told you that you would look amazing in that dress.” Darius said with one of the biggest smiles you’d ever seen him wear. “You’re drunk aren’t you Darius.” you laughed at him; he was wobbling a bit. 
           “Y/N I am offended that you think I would drink at a work function. But yes, I am absolutely sloshed. Galas are the only nights I can get so drunk I can’t walk, and Maxwell doesn’t fire me, he says it’s good for me to let go, I have no idea what he’s talking about. I am very relaxed all the time, who wouldn’t be working for the prince of darkness. Oh god he’s not behind me, is he?” 
           “Darius you’re rambling, he’s not behind you, I haven’t seen you since he left me at the start.” you said trying to get him to stop talking so rapidly.” 
           “Well, my dear he has seen you; he’s been staring at you since Sookie found you.” Darius’ head vaguely pointed to the wall behind him, you stole a glance and sure enough there was Maxwell, talking to someone but not paying attention to them, he was staring right into your soul, it wasn’t a glare or even angry in anyway, but it was intense, like he was trying to read your mind. Somehow you believed he actually might be able to. You gave him a small smile and he nodded his head in your direction. You looked back at Darius, “he’s probably just making sure I don’t embarrass him.” you said trying to write off the fact that he was staring. Trying to convince him it meant nothing. Or yourself that it meant nothing and that there definitely was not butterflies in your stomach. 
           An hour passed as you and Sookie milled around the room, you lost Darius at champagne number three, with him and Sookie both calling you a prude for not drinking, and you telling them every time that you hated champagne and would much prefer tequila. 
           Suddenly a hand tapped you on the shoulder, you spun around expecting Max, or Darius or literally anyone else. But not henry. Not your ex-boss Henry Giorgio. “Y/N it’s so good to see you! I was quite surprised to hear that you had left us, but I can see why, head of marketing and you get to fuck the boss? What a steal!” your eyes widened from shock not just at seeing him but hearing what he said, you grabbed his arm and dragged him towards a wall telling Sookie that you’d be back right away. “What do you mean fucking the boss? I am not sleeping with Mr. Lord and I will not have you come here and try to embarrass me just because I wouldn’t sleep with you.” your voice was low but harsh as you spoke you him. 
           “Oh, please darling, this is Maxwell, every time a new woman under 30 starts at his company everyone knows that it because he’s sleeping with her, but you got head of marketing, you must have really shown him a good time, I mean everyone else just gets assistant jobs, but you, well that must have been a good blowjob.” he was snarky and rude, and you felt like you were going to cry. 
           “Oh, don’t tell me I’ve hurt your feelings, what did you think was going to happen? Maxwell was going to fall for you. Darling I wouldn’t even waste your breath on that idea, that man has never felt love, his fiancée went missing for god sakes and he came home and went to work the very next week. You didn’t think you wanted Maxwell to fall for you until that very moment in time. Before you could say anything or think too hard on the subject, you felt someone come up behind you, it was Maxwell, and if you could have tensed up even more. 
           “Is there a problem here Mr. Giorgio, I should hope you’re not trying to steal back our new member of the team.” Maxwell also sounded tense, but you knew better than to think it was because you’d been upset and not because Henry was his rival. 
           “No not at all Maxwell, just giving her my good wishes, is all.” Henry’s voice was dripping in the smug tone you’d heard so many times working for Halo. 
           “Well then if you’re done, I’d like to steal Miss Y/L/N back if you don’t mind.” Henry merely waved Maxwell off but by then you didn’t want to be there anymore, your head was swirling, and you could only feel pity for yourself, you broke away from Maxwell to go find Sookie. 
           “I need to go home, please I want to go home, now.” you were trying so hard not to cry, tears stinging and threatening to spill over as Sookie led you out of the ballroom, and as you passed Darius, him quickly catching on and following. You didn’t see the confused and hurt look on Maxwell’s face.
           After you finally exited, you noticed the cameras had left, and you broke down in Darius’ arms as Sookie called her husband, Jackson, to come pick you all up. Darius gave Jackson the directions to your house, and when Sookie and Darius offered to join you, and take care of you inside you brushed them off giving them a lame apology about going to bed early and that you would see them tomorrow at work.
           As you showered and climbed into bed, you were mad at yourself for getting so hurt, this was just a business arrangement. You weren’t special. And you shouldn’t see Maxwell as special either. But you did. 
           And it sucked.

the best thing is you
just jake, amy, and their favourite things about being parents
There are a lot of things Jake loves about being a dad: stealing his kid’s food when he can’t finish his plate, sleepy cuddles before bed, putting on voices for all the characters in his books, and wearing matching Adidas Superstars. But if he had to pick his absolute favorite number one thing, playing with Sam’s toys would come out on top.
Luckily, their apartment is filled with toys, organised by type, colour and size into various bins and baskets and labelled (Santiago Style!) so he always knows where to put stuff during tidy-up time. If Jake so much as accidentally puts one red Lego block in the yellow Lego container, Sam tuts, rolls his eyes and snitches on him to Amy later.
He has lots of toys but it’s not like he’s spoiled or anything; Amy has a big family and he gets a lot of hand-me-downs. Amy helps him write thank you cards every time he receives a new toy, they constantly remind him how lucky he is and donate his unwanted items to less lucky girls and boys.
(During one decluttering sesh, he puts his favourite truck in the giveaway pile for another kid to play with and Amy almost cries. They’re biased, but they’re pretty sure that Sam is the best kid ever).
They re-enact Ninja Turtles scenes with his action figures, roam the apartment with his dinosaurs and play shop (which consists of Sam selling Jake tinned goods that he already owns).
Both Jake and Sam’s favorite thing to play is the appropriately titled Detective Daddy game.
In short, Jake wears his badge and a tie (even over his t-shirts because, as he explains in his Grandpa Holt voice that never fails to make Sam fall over in a fit of giggles, wearing a necktie in the workplace is very important) and interrogates the three year old until he confesses to his crimes.
It usually goes like this.
“Princess Mommy has been kidnapped!”
Dramatic gasp.
“And I think you took her.”
“Me?” He clutches his chest, feigning innocence.
“I found her tiara in your bedroom, I checked the baby monitor security footage and you weren’t where you said you were and most incriminating of all, I found your fingerprints on her Amy water bottle.”
“My name’s Amy!”
(He often confuses the fact that they share one of the same names and thinks his name is Amy, not Santiago. It’s kind of adorable).
“I checked your file,” he brandishes a manila folder he stole from work and drops it on the dining room table, “and your name is Samuel.”
He gasps again. “I didn’t do it, Officer!”
“Just admit it,” Jake growls playfully, leaning forward to intimidate the suspect.
Sam climbs onto the table and closes the gap all the way, booping his nose against Jake’s and making him break character for half a second.
“Admit you kidnapped Princess Mommy,” Jake insists, tickling him until he finally surrenders.
“I did it! I did it!” He cries. “I kidnapped Princess Mommy and Queen Karen!”
Cue Jake a dramatic gasp from Jake this time.
“You’re going to jail for a long, long, long, long, long, long time!”
Jail is a pillow fort in the corner of the room.
(It’s actually cosy and super comfortable; Sam sent Jake there one time when he played the role of detective the morning after Jake had worked a night shift and he may have fallen asleep until his son decided to jump on him to wake him up so they could have more fun).
Jake scoops the dangerous(-ly cute) criminal into his arms and throws him in pillow fort prison, then rescues his Princess and Queen from the couch.
Sam can’t get enough of cop related games. It warms both Jake and Amy’s hearts that he’s so proud of what they do; it makes all the late nights and time away from him totally worth it.
Victor and Camila buy him a Police Station Lego set for Christmas and, after constructing it with mommy and daddy, it sits pride of place on top of his dresser next to a framed picture of the three of them. The next time he visits the Ninety-Ninth precinct he brags to Rosa, Charles and all the uniformed officers about how his police station is way cooler than theirs.
That very Christmas, he plays cops and robbers for the first time and kicks Santiago cousin butt. Amy high fives him in front of her brothers, thrilled that Sam is continuing her legacy of being the best at the game.
Jake will come up with elaborate (kid friendly) cases that Sam is obsessed with, for example, “oh no! Someone stole a pizza from Sal’s and is getting away!”
“Not Sal’s!” Sam cries because even at three years old, he is aware that Sal’s is the best pizza place in Brooklyn. Like father, like son.
He chases his police cars around the living room, making siren noises and eventually cutting the bad guy’s car off before he can escape towards the bedrooms down the hall.
(They’re going out for a walk when their elderly neighbour offers him one of her grandson’s fire engines that he’s got too old for. Sam declines because firefighters are for losers and the FDNY suck. Amy shoots her an embarrassed smile and herds Sam away).
When it’s time for bed and all the toys have been put away, Jake tells him the story of how a cool, leather jacket-wearing detective married the youngest female Sergeant in the history of the Nine-Nine.
Sam asks to hear it again every night.

There are a lot of things Amy loves about being a mom: baking chocolate muffins and pretending not to see when he steals some of raw mixture (even though he has chocolate all round his mouth), sleepy cuddles before bed, singing to Disney hits at the tops of their voices and trying not to cry when he brags about his mom being the youngest female Sergeant in the history of the Nine-Nine to everyone they meet. But if she had to pick her absolute favourite number one thing, teaching Sam to read and write and count would come out on top.
She was always good at school. She got the highest grades. She loved crawling into her dad’s lap and reading to him, glowing under his constant praise. She didn’t need any help with the big words unlike Tony and it wasn’t long before her teacher advised that she skip fourth grade.
She studied Art History at college, topped her class, and was the best in her group of recruits at the Academy, too.
As her brothers started having kids, she loved helping them read and, as they got older, helping them with homework. She especially loved when they would confide in her that she’s smarter than their dads. Beating her brothers, even as an adult, was still her greatest joy. Until she fell in love and had a kid of her own and beating her brothers was demoted to third spot.
The Santiago genes are just as strong in Sam.
He’s like Jake in a lot of ways: his dark, unruly curls, his nose, his sense of humour, his penchant for dramatic reveals.
(Running into their room at 5am shouting, “Mommy! Daddy! I didn’t wet the bed last night!”, for example).
But he is smart. Santiago-level smart.
He learns to count to twenty before all his friends, is a super reader and bilingual.
Amy has been singing him Spanish lullabies since he was a newborn, teaching him his “Por favor”s and “Gracias”s, whispering “Te amo” as she kisses him goodnight. She cries so hard the first time he says it back.
It’s very important to her that he can speak Spanish so they have  lessons with daddy on Tuesday nights. She buys a textbook and makes them sit opposite her at the dining room table like they’re actually in school.
“¿Cuántos años tienes?” She asks him after their first lesson.
“Tengo tres años,” he responds with a proud smile that has Amy gathering him into her arms and smothering him with kisses.
Rosa has been teaching Jake Spanish for a couple of years but his brain is so full of case details and Die Hard quotes that Sam quickly surpasses him, joining Amy on her side of the table.
“Tell mama she’s pretty,” he instructs.
He furrows his brow, immediately looking to Amy for help.
“Luces bien.”
“That was it!” He snaps his fingers. “Luces bien, Ames.”
She blushes, tucks her hair behind both her ears and flicks to the next page of the textbook. She’s only in one of his hoodies and leggings, she’s not even sure when she last washed her hair, but her husband makes her feel beautiful. Always has done, right back to the time he said her dress makes her look like a mermaid.
Along with Spanish, she teaches him basic geography. He knows that Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, that Havana is the capital city and can draw the flag with his crayons. He shows off to Camila the next time they visit and earns himself an extra cookie.
He can write his name, too, and she remarks that at age three his penmanship is already better than Jake’s.
(Jake sticks his tongue out at her, even if it’s true).
Like Amy, he loves books. Loves the silly voices Jake makes as he reads, loves reading along with Amy and love love loves reading the book of Jake and Amy (illustrated by Terry) that Jake has made for his fourth birthday.
“Don’t you want to read a different book tonight?” She questions foolishly. They’ve read it three nights in a row.
“Nope,” he grins. “Mommy and daddy’s book.”
Her heart melts as she opens the book and he snuggles into his arms.
“It was her first day at the Nine-Nine...”

After an interrogation that went on longer than expected, Jake missed dinner and bath time and had to break several speed limits to get home in time for his bedtime story and goodnight kisses.
He locks the apartment door behind him and follows the sound of Amy’s voice to Sam’s bedroom, recognizing the story immediately.
“I’m hearing wedding bells!” Amy reads, doing a spot on impression of Charles’ voice.
Jake stifles a laugh, leaning against the doorframe and listening to his wife recite the story he knows so well.
There are a lot of things they love about being parents, but at the end of the day, watching Sam play and learn and cuddle their spouse is the best thing of all. And soon they will get to watch them do it all over again with Baby Peralta 2: Peralta Harder.

mornings with flip headcanons
hello yes welcome to my first post on this blog. naturally its me writing about my the dream life with flip. this is literally so domestic. maybe on the borderline of being boring like...ah. i love flip gosh darnit. also vaguely nsfw. vaguely. not really nsfw at all but. it’s all good. also i don’t think i made the reader distinctly female? correct me if im wrong. but i think anyone can enjoy it!
flip wakes up before you. all the time. even on the weekends and even when he worked late the night before.
the two of you have your own morning routine, but he has his pre-you morning routing
during the week he’ll wake up at 5am, an hour or two later on the weekend. but he’ll get up, usually having to untangle himself from you, as much as he’d rather stay in bed with you
most of the time he’ll roll out of bed completely naked as one of his favorite nighttime routines is to fuck you senseless until you both pass out.
his first task is to turn up the heater. before you head to bed he usually sets it lower. the two of you make up for the heat the hvac doesn’t supply during those hours.
then he’ll jump in the shower. they’re never long, five minutes the most when you’re not taking a shower with him. he’d shampoo, condition, use body wash. simple.
then he’d make his way to the kitchen a put on a pot of coffee so it would be ready for you when you woke up. he’d always make it for you the way you liked so it would be sitting in one of your favorite mugs when you came stumbling into the kitchen.
after preparing your coffee he’d sit on the couch and turn on the tv, watching the morning news until you woke up
he’d watch you saunter into the kitchen and grab your coffee. you’d interchange between wearing one of his white t-shirts or one of his many flannels in the morning. whichever one you wore swallowing your form whole.
you’d come on sit next to him on the couch, your legs resting in his lap and snuggling into his side. sometimes it was uncomfortable, but neither of you minded.
he’d switch off the news, to some other morning program, usually reruns of the brady bunch. but he still told you some more important things he’d picked up from the news. you liked to know what was going on, but watching the news itself wasn’t the best start of your day. but it coming out of flip’s mouth, his voice. that was much better. you couldn’t be stressed listening to his deep, rumbling voice.
after finishing a half hour episode of whatever was on the two of you would make your way to the bathroom. you’d strip yourself of his shirt, his dark eyes watching the entire time. most days he’d run the risk of running late for work just to fuck you over the bathroom sink, but some days he couldn’t, if he had an important case or a meeting. 
while you showered he brushed his teeth, listening to you tell him about your plans for the day, or even sing. sometimes he’d tell you what he expected to do that day in between spits of toothpaste.
he’d help you dry off once you got out of the shower, just as an excuse to touch you. to touch your soft skin, the shape of your body. he’d be thinking about it all day.
you’d get dressed while he gathered his badge, wallet shoving them into his pockets. he’d slip his gun into its holster.
you’d meet him at the front door, grabbing his keys from the key holder hung on the wall, using them as an excuse to slip them into his back pocket and pull him close.
“i’m gonna miss you, baby,” you pouted, as if you could convince him to stay. you knew you couldn’t. most of the time, anyway.
he pressed his forehead against yours, his prominent nose that you loved so much nuzzling your own. “i’m gonna miss you, too. but i’ll see you tonight. and i’ll call you on my lunch break.” he pressed his plump limps against yours.
there were different types of kisses that he gave you. these were his goodbye kisses. gentle and full of love, hesitant when he pulled away.
always followed by a kiss to your cheek before he pulled away from you.
he’d head out the door and you watched him, leaning against the door frame as he got in his truck and started it up. he’d wave at you as he pulled out, you blowing him a kiss and waving in return, waving until he was out of sight and the rumble of his truck got quieter.
you felt sad listening to it go, but you’d feel so much joy when you’d hear it pull up that night.

4X10 Paper Hearts
Mulder awakens on his couch from a dream about a dead girl.  He goes to a park and finds a grave site and calls for a forensic excavation.  Scully meets him at the site early that morning and asks him why he called for a forensic excavation at 5am on a Sunday.  Scully questions Mulder going to the park because of a dream, but then the team finds the body.  Mulder tells Scully that he’s been having a recurring dream.  He knows that she is another victim of John Lee Roche.  Mulder fills Scully in.  He tells her he was brought onto the case early in his career, and it was his profile that caught Roche.  They knew that Roche took hearts from the girls’ clothing, but they never found the hearts to make sure they had identified all the victims.  Scully tells Mulder she thinks he solved the case in his sleep, and she quotes himself back to him, “A dream is an answer to a question we haven’t learned how to ask.”  Scully identifies the year the girl was murdered as 1975, much earlier than Mulder had previously thought.  They identify the girl’s body, and the girl’s father asks Mulder if there are any other unidentified victims.  This renews Mulder’s fire to find the hearts and count them.  Mulder remembers what Roche’s car looked like.  They track down the car and find the hearts hidden in Roche’s old car, inside a copy of Alice in Wonderland.  Scully leans close as they look at the book and examine the hearts; there are 2 unidentified hearts.  
M&S go to see Roche in prison.  He’s playing basketball.  Roche challenges Mulder at basketball and says he’ll tell him.  Mulder makes the shot, but Roche refuses to tell him until he brings Roche the hearts.
Mulder has a dream in which Roche is the one who took his sister.  Roche tells Mulder that in 1973 he sold a vacuum to Mulder’s dad.  Mulder gets angry and punches Roche.  Scully arrives.  She’s angry.  She tells Mulder that Roche is committing emotional blackmail. Mulder tells Scully that he doesn’t know what to believe.  Mulder visits his mom and finds out that his dad did buy a vacuum of the type that Roche said.
Mulder goes to Skinner’s office, upset that he has been denied access to Roche.  Skinner is angry that Mulder struck Roche, although he tells Mulder that Scully wasn’t the one who told him.  Mulder says that he has to find out if Roche kidnapped Samantha.  Scully has found out that Roche did take a sales trip to Martha’s Vineyard in October 1973.  She takes Mulder’s side, and Skinner lets him interview Roche again.  Roche tells Mulder what happened what his sister was taken; Roche says he was watching from the window.  Then Roche makes Mulder choose a heart which leads them to another victim. Mulder starts to dig through the ground with his hands.  Scully says they should get a team out, but Mulder just says, “Help me, Scully.”  She does.  Mulder is looking at the body with tears in his eyes when Scully comes into the autopsy bay.  It’s not Samantha.  Mulder asks Roche about the last heart.  Roche says just telling Mulder won’t be enough.  Scully says, “Stop the mind games.” Roche baits Mulder, “I can’t wait to see your face,” and Scully is angry, protective of him, “You’re going to see the inside of your cell instead.  You’re going to rot there.”  They leave the room, and Scully asks Mulder if he’s okay. Scully says there has to be another way to come to the truth.
Mulder takes Roche out of prison to Martha’s Vineyard.  Scully finds out and tells Skinner, defending Mulder.  Skinner is upset with Scully, tells her she let him down.  Skinner and Scully go after Mulder.  Mulder has trapped Roche, takes him to the wrong house, confirming that he is lying.
Mulder suggests that Roche got into his head, an interesting parallel to Scully’s thoughts in “Unruhe”.  He thinks that Roche literally saw the events of his sister’s abduction through his eyes, through his dreams.  Mulder handcuffs Roche to the bed and falls asleep.  He has another dream during which he sees his sister and saves her from a locked car, but wakes up handcuffed, and Roche has escaped.  Scully and Skinner arrive.  Roche has Mulder’s gun.  He used Mulder’s badge to get information about a girl that he and Mulder saw on the plane.  He uses the information to abduct the girl.  The woman who was taking care of the girl is upset, tells Mulder it’s her fault, but Mulder says no, it’s his fault.  Mulder tells Scully she was right, Roche was playing him the whole time.  Scully suggests that Roche may take the girl back to his old apartment. From the apartment window, they see a yard of old buses.  Mulder finds Roche in an abandoned bus, holding a gun on the little girl.  Mulder kills Roche.  
Back at the office, Scully assures Mulder that the last girl isn’t Samantha. Mulder feels guilty that they never found the identity of the last little girl.  Scully tells him to go home and get some sleep.  He hugs her and she runs her hand through his hair.  He files the last heart away in the drawer of his desk.

GILLINGHAM SUPPORTERS REPORT 2019 / 2020 SEASON - PART ONE

This blog is a follow up blog to the blog that every Gillingham Supporter participated in before the start of the season, and that was the first blog of a four part feature, this blog looks at how Gillingham have performed after Fifteen League Games, The Third Part will be after Thirty League Games, and the final part will be A End Of Season Review Blog, Answering these questions are the following Gillingham Supporters,,,,, Rob, Gills Anorak, Lee, Louis, Ben, Luke, RichardS, Steve, and Lewis.
I want to thank everyone who has participated in the latest Gillingham Supporters Blog, as well as thank those who participated in The Previous Gillingham Supporters Blogs throughout The 2018 / 2019 Season, It is because the involvement of everyone who has participated in the previous five blogs which made these blogs so successful, so once again, thank you, Now on to the questions and answers……….
1. AT PRIESTFIELD STADIUM, GILLINGHAM HAVE WON THREE, DRAWN ONE AND LOST THREE OF OUR OPENING SEVEN LEAGUE ONE HOME FIXTURES, WITH THE GILLS SCORING FOURTEEN AND CONCEDING EIGHT IN THESE SEVEN HOME MATCHES THIS SEASON, HOW WOULD YOU RATE GILLINGHAM’S HOME FORM SO FAR THIS SEASON ???, AND WHAT DO YOU THINK GILLINGHAM NEED TO DO TO BETTER OUR CURRENT FORM OVER THE NEXT SEVEN HOME LEAGUE GAMES ???
Rob - It's okay, I suppose. Our record isn't that much better than in previous seasons despite replacing most of the team. I think the team is still gelling though and we may see an upturn once some players (Cisse, Willock) return to fitness.
Gills Anorak - Home form is better than the last couple of seasons. I think they need to continue to play attacking football in the hope attendances will improve.
Lee - Our form at home hasn’t been great at all as well as our away form which has been patchy in parts to say the very least. To improve I think the squad needs a couple of changes. Mandron has looked effective as an Aerial threat and I think with a better front 3 of Hanlan Charles-Cook and Mandron we could be stronger away from home and at home. Our defence has lacked when we haven’t had Fuller and you can see we’ve missed him massively and hopefully he is part of the squad again soon!
Louis - I think the Gills home form has been somewhat positive but also frustrating. As expected when a lot of players are brought in then there will need to be time for the team to shape itself but I do believe we should be picking up more points at home. We started off scoring goals which is always good to see and from a mix of players too, but concentration levels has put us in trouble on a number of occasions and wiped out all the hard work the players had put in. The improvement needed is more concentration at the back and awareness of opposing players which I believe has already started to be implemented in the last 2-3 games. I also feel we need a way to get our strikers involved in the game more and not just hoofing the ball up field when other tactics have not been working.
Ben - I would like to see the Gills go for the kill in more home games, especially if we go in front.
Luke - Score more than we concede usually secures you all three points so that's what we need to do.
RichardS - Well it's better than last year. Ultimately it's all about quality. We have a reasonable team of League 1 players. For our home form to improve someone has to step up and grab games by the scruff of the neck. Stuart O'Keefe and Mark Byrne possibly although Mark has done well and tried. We are to reliant on the long ball and kick and hope and need to vary the play more. Until then it's a case of same old.
Steve - The current home form isn’t great. I’d say below average. To improve I’d start Lee and Pringle. They’re always on the bench and they’re good, creative players. I don’t think they’ve ever started a game together and, at home, we should be on the front foot.
Lewis -  I certainly feel more confident when we’re at home. We’ve been pretty decent in games we’ve got nothing from, such as Ipswich and Peterborough, but that’s still not good enough. In general we lack firepower going forward, so, when you’re expected to control games at home, it’s hard to do that. We need attacking players like Oliver Lee and Ben Pringle to deliver - if they’re given the chance, of course.

GILLINGHAM PICKED UP THERE FIRST AWAY WIN OF THE SEASON AGAINST ACCRINGTON STANLEY AT THE WEEKEND, AND GILLINGHAM’S AWAY FORM THIS SEASON IS AS FOLLOWS,,, WON ONE, DRAWN FIVE, LOST TWO, SCORING SIX AND CONCEDING NINE, HOW WOULD YOU RATE GILLINGHAM’S AWAY FORM OVER THE OPENING EIGHT AWAY MATCHES THIS SEASON, AND ALSO, DO YOU THINK SATURDAY’S WIN AGAINST ACCRINGTON STANLEY WILL GIVE THE PLAYERS A PSYCHOLOGICAL BOOST GOING INTO UP AND COMING AWAY MATCHES ???
Rob - You know more than most about the effects of not winning away for over a season, so it's important we got that vital first win. I guess it's not important where the wins come from, although the Chairman and home fans would prefer the majority to be in ME7. Win most at home, draw most away and we'll be fine.
Gills Anorak - Away form isn’t quite as good as last year but the performance have generally been good, and yes I’m sure beating Accrington will be a big boost.
Lee - I was there at Accrington and I was very pleased with the performance from the boys and I think it really was a game of two halves with Charles-Cook scoring a great goal and Jack Bonham  making some amazing saves to keep the 3 points coming back to Kent. You could really see what it meant to the players and fans alike and was well worth waking up at 5am for! Going into our next away games at the end of this year not one of them look like easy games that 3 points are guaranteed in but I think if we can gain momentum from last week hopefully our away form can improve. I think it would be nice for the fans who do the miles season in season out.
Louis - Gillingham’s away form has always been hit or miss (more miss then hit) which makes it tricky to say that only one away win so far is either good or bad. Looking at it in terms of points (8 points) makes our form look more reasonable considering we had been playing a tighter game away and only scoring 6 goals. I feel our away form is on point so far, but yes the win against Accrington should give the team a boost and give them that little bit of extra positive energy to try and improve for the next away fixture.
Ben - Overall, I think we've been quite dull away from home! But we're harder to beat now than we were in the past.
Luke - Not great, seems to be Steve Lovell is the only one who mastered us playing well away in recent years. Providing we pick up our home form that's what I'm more concerned about as that's where you see the team more.
RichardS - On the whole I don't think we have done to badly away from home. It seems to suit us and we have played some decent sides. If we can maintain the current level of form that would be tolerable. As above it's the home form that needs to improve for me.
Steve - It’s not great. We travel up and down the country spending loads of money and they often perform really badly. Good performance at Accrington because apparently they were all over us. That makes it a good away win! I’m not sure it’ll help. It’ll probably go back to normal, and Saturday’s game against Rotherham shows they can’t have taken too much confidence.
Lewis - It’s not been brilliant, as the stats say! The Coventry and Oxford games, in particular, were tragic. You’d hope the Accrington win will give the side a boost because the burden is, now, off their shoulders in regards to getting that first away win. We’ll see soon!
3. GILLINGHAM HAVE BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN THE SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW (SIGNING JACK BONHAM, LEE HODSON, ALFIE JONES, CONNOR OGILVIE, TOM O’CONNOR, STUART O’KEEFE, OUSSEYNOU CISSE, MATTY WILLOCK, BEN PRINGLE, OLLY LEE, MARK MARSHALL, ALEX JAKUBIAK, MIKAEL NDJOLI AND MIKAEL MANDRON) - WHO DO YOU THINK HAS BEEN GILLINGHAM’S BEST SIGNING THIS SEASON AND WHY ???
Rob - It's difficult to choose between Bonham and Jones. Jones arrived as a centre back but looks far more suited to a holding midfield role and has put in some impressive performances. As for Bonham, I didn't know much about him when he arrived but I think he's been one of our best players. A good, confident, consistent, goalkeeper makes the world of difference to a defence and I believe we have one in Bonham. If only he slapped the badge a bit then he'd be as loved as Nelson.
Gills Anorak - Jack Bonham. He edges it over Alfie Jones because he is a permanent signing so excellent business for the club. I rate him higher than Holy already.
Lee - So far I would have to say Connor Ogilvie has really found his feet at the club and really has earn’t his place in the squad. When he first arrived a couple seasons ago from Tottenham’s youth set up I wasn’t very keen on him and he was shaky at the start but has been a big part of our team so far and hopefully it can continue as i think his potential could be big later on in his career.
Louis - Even though Evans had signed Ogilvie on a permanent basis, I do not really see him as a new signing due to him being on loan with us for the past two seasons so I will have to say Jack Bonham. I consider Bonham to be an all round goalkeeper who our defenders can trust and also an improvement from Holy that gives more resilience to our defence. I feel slightly less nervous with Bonham in goal as we know what we will be getting from him in majority of games. He has already shown us the type of saves he can make, which has kept us in many games. I can see more to come from him this season. I also think Alfie Jones has done well in his new midfield role and given us something that had been missing from the team in the past few seasons.
Ben - I have been very impressed with Tom O'Connor and I would have to say Bonham is the best signing!
Luke - Jack Bonham. Been an excellent replacement for Holy and looks to be getting better and better. Won't be too long before the Ireland scouts start looking at him in my opinion.
RichardS - At this moment in time Jack Bonham. Had big boots to fill to replace Tomas Holy but looks really good and growing in confidence. Today's penalty save will have helped. Tom O'Connor and Alfie Jones have also settled well. Jakubiak has done well. Olly Lee has potential. Matty Willock we will have to see. Who knows.
Steve - I think it’s got to be Bonham. Lots of them haven’t played for a number of reasons. Bonham has won us a few games like at Accrington. He’s made a couple of mistakes but he’s been good.
Lewis -  I’m still hopeful for a few that haven’t, necessarily, delivered, yet, but I think the best has been Alfie Jones. I’m pretty sure he was bought in to play centre-half, but he’s been incredible in midfield! He breaks up play and protects the defence so well, and has plenty of passion. I’ve no doubts he’ll go on to play in the Premier League!
4. Rob - Callum Reilly was a surprise as he had played the majority of games in pre-season and seemed the type of player Evans would want. It's a shame List left as well and I still believe Oldaker will reach his potential.
Gills Anorak - None of them really. Id imagine DEAN PARRETT, GABRIEL ZAKUANI, CALLUM REILLY were too expensive for what they contributed and JOSH REES, MIQUEL SCARLETT, DARREN OLDAKER, ELLIOTT LIST AND BRADLEY STEVENSON we’re not deemed good enough for League 1.
Lee - Like a few I would have to say Elliot List would of had to be the most surprising and equally gutting as he really played a massive part in the season last season scoring some very key goals and assisting many also but who could forget his goal against premier league Cardiff. I wish him all the best at Stevenage and later on in his career wherever it may take him.
Louis - I was surprised to see Callum Reilly go. When he was played in his preferred position he gave us that extra creativity in midfield which gave him the ability to turn nothing into something ( Billy Bingham also had this ability but sadly consistent injury's plagued his time at the club). Evans had brought in a lot of midfielders into the team so I can see why he was allowed to go.
Ben - I was most surprised at List leaving! He always offered something different off the bench! And could have been effective this season.
Luke - I could probably make a case for all of those names if I wanted to. Oldaker and List are the ones most disappointing as the potential is there, Evans just needed to mould them into more complete players. Right Back has been bit of a problem area and I don't think we appropriately replaced Luke O’Neill.
RichardS - I would have kept Gabriel Zakuani and Callum Reilly. Still think they would have something to offer if nothing else as back up. However I accept you have to limit squad numbers and watch the payroll so there is a further debate there.
Steve - Zakuani was a good defender. I’m surprised he went. I know he was injured but I’m surprised he left. He’s not on the list but I’d say O’Neill, too. I quite like Stevenson as well. I know he was young but he was good and I liked him. I love List as well!
Lewis - A few things weirded me out about some of the departures. One thing was the players that left having signed new deals in summer (Scarlett, Stevenson). Evans and Raynor agreed they’d let Mark Patterson sort out the deals, and said they trusted him, but, then, some of those players left. Another thing was that ‘squad’ players were allowed to leave. Zakuani and List were two players that departed because they couldn’t be guaranteed football, but we need a squad to compete!
5. WHO DO YOU THINK HAS BEEN GILLINGHAM’S MOST IMPROVED PLAYER THIS SEASON ???
Rob - Most improved player is probably Tucker. He's ahead of a new signing at right back, despite being a centre back by trade, and looks perfectly comfortable in either position.
Gills Anorak - Connor Ogilvie.
Lee - This is very hard to answer really as it has been a pretty big renovation to the team since Evans Joined in May but overall I think like I said earlier Connor Ogilvie has really improved and is an asset to our defence.
Louis - Conner Ogilvie. Playing in the centre has given him a new lease of life. He has been solid and commanding at the back but also helped improve his attacking play which he has shown on a number of occasions this season. The role has given him lots more confidence and this has shown greatly in his game.
Ben - I have been impressed with Connor Ogilvie for the last season and a half! He's come on leaps and bounds.
Luke - Jack Tucker, actually getting game time and the opportunity to shine and long may it continue.
RichardS - I said this last season and so far have been proved right. Bar today ( not his best  game) Jack Tucker has impressed. Young hungry and will only improve with experience. Jack Bonham has also done well as mentioned above.
Steve - I’d like to say Byrne. He gives 110% every game and runs everywhere. He seems dedicated. You look at some others and just think, what the hell?! Fuller has always been good but with O’Neill gone he’s stepped up, too.
Lewis - Apart from Saturday’s game against Rotherham, Connor Ogilvie has really impressed me. He’s benefitted from a solid run at centre-half, and looks at home, there. I’d say he’s been in our top three players this year.

6. AND WHO DO YOU THINK HAS BEEN GILLINGHAM’S MOST DISAPPOINTING PLAYER THIS SEASON ???
Rob - Most disappointing has to be Willock as he hasn't actually played yet. Once he gets some games, I'm sure that will change.
Gills Anorak - Lee Hodgson. Cisse less so as I didn’t think he would be anymore than a squad player.
Lee - I would have to say I have been annoyed so far with Stuart O’Keefe as he is a very short tempered player and isn’t really involved a lot when he’s played this season. It’s a shame really considering the clubs he had been at previous to joining us.
Louis - There has been a few players who have not been involved in the team much that I thought would of been. Some mainly due to injury like Willock but the most disappointing for me would have to be Cisse. In the games he had played he looked placid, boring and did not show much fight in his game. I was able to see the team for a while during the build up of the game against Bolton and Cissie was the only player who did not look bothered about being part of the team. My assumption is that he may have an attitude problem but that is only my perspective in what I have seen and could well be not the case.
Ben - Most disappointing player for me, would have to be Mark Marshall (whom, i've seen play on a few occasions) and maybe Matty Willock, although he hasn't played much.
Luke - Matty Willock. Was bigged an awful lot during the summer and we've seen him play 45 minutes of mediocre football. Lee Hodson also falls into a disappointing signing in my opinion, not enough emphasis on defending from a player who is meant to be a defender.
RichardS - Mikael Mandron. BUT that's so far and I'm not one to criticise players unjustifiably as I think the potential is there but it not shown through yet.
Steve - I actually think O’Connor. He has his good moments, but sometimes he gets the ball and just can’t pass.
Lewis - I don’t think he’s been tragic, but Lee Hodson has disappointed me a bit. Everyone assumed he was bought in to replace Luke O’Neill, but he’s, somehow, third choice right-back, now. He hasn’t been great when he’s featured, but, as I mentioned in my previous answer, I have hope players like Lee will come good.
7. GILLINGHAM HAVE GOT THE FOLLOWING MATCHES COMING UP IN NOVEMBER, ROTHERHAM UNITED, AND LINCOLN CITY AT HOME AND AFC WIMBLEDON AWAY IN LEAGUE ONE, AS WELL AS CUP MATCHES AGAINST SUNDERLAND AND TOTTENHAM’S U21’S IN THE FA CUP AND FOOTBALL LEAGUE TROPHY RESPECTIVELY, IDEALLY, WE LIKE TO SEE GILLINGHAM WIN ALL FIVE MATCHES, BUT WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE GILLINGHAM ACHIEVE FROM THESE FIVE MATCHES ???
Rob - We should be winning at least one of the home games and probably away at Wimbledon too. I can't see us getting anything from Sunderland in the cup and I don't care about the EFL Trophy.
Gills Anorak - Minimum 5 points in the league. 7 points would be good. A decent performance v Sunderland and v Spurs I’ve no interest.
Lee - Ideally as you mentioned a win in all would be brilliant but is something that will be very difficult to gain. Starting off with Saturday’s visitors Rotherham they’ve had a great start to the season but seem to give away a lot of late second half goals. I think it will be a tough game and will be one id happily take a draw in. Sunderland in the cup will be hard and a replay down here would be nice to get but if I’m honest I can’t see it happening. As for Lincoln the following week I think we will get 3 points. The work the Cowley brothers did to that club was amazing and you can see how horrible it was for the fans to see the pair leave. Mike Appleton hasn’t found his feet yet and it’s unlikely he will so I think if we can we should take advantage of that and push for 3 points as well as the game the week after at AFC Wimbledon which I will be attending and hope we can do as well as we did there under Lovell last season. I personally couldn’t care less about the cup game against spurs u21 as we don’t have nothing to play for and the attendance won’t be great for a game in the middle of November!
Louis - Rotherham’s away form has been good recently which includes a 0-2 win against Ipswich so they will give us a bit of a challenge more than others may think. They have been inconsistent but a draw against them would not be the end of the world. Lincoln seem to be suffering since the loss of their talented manager despite their impressive win against an under performing Sunderland team at the beginning of October. That win is the only one they have had in the last 11 games in all competitions. Out of the other 10 games only two of them resulted in draws. I would be very disappointed if we could not capitalise on this poor run of form so 3 points is what I would be hoping for. AFC Wimbledon have been picking up a little bit of form of late with 4 wins in 5 in all competitions in October, with their recent loss only being on the 22nd Oct against Burton. Three of those wins have been at home so we could be playing them at the wrong time especially if they continue their good home form. I would of wanted 3 points from this game but as recent results have shown then a draw could be a good point gained.
I have no interest in Gillingham’s game against Tottenham’s U21's but it would be a good chance to play our less regular players alongside some of our promising young talent. This is a type of game where players currently not getting into the first team can show Steve Evans what they can really do. The result does not matter in this game. Sunderland. When this draw was made, many of our supporters had already given up hope of us having a decent cup run this season. When watching the draw even I had my doubts against a very daunting opposition for a first round game, but it is not all doom and gloom. Sunderland have lost games and dropped points against many teams this season including  a 1-1 draw against Bolton and a 2-0 loss against Lincoln so there is hope for us yet. Sunderland has only won once in their previous 4 league games and seems to be struggling to find themselves and live up to their supporters expectations. The pressure of promotion on them this season is showing, so a cup upset is very much on the cards and i can envisage Gillingham doing this.
Ben - Ideally i'd take 7 points from the next 9, and a win in the cup at Sunderland & then a chance to play some youngsters against Spurs.
Luke - Lincoln and Wimbledon are winnable and I would be expect 6 points from those games. Rotherham will be very difficult to play and I will be happy with a point from that game. Spurs game I couldn't care less about and I don't see us making round 2 of the FA Cup.
RichardS - Win all 5 ! Ok seriously 4 points and a cup win would leave me content. We must win either the Lincoln or Wimbledon games for me and ideally remain unbeaten in those 2 fixtures. Footballers play to many games so whilst others are a feel good factor for cup runs and help financially, league games are bread and butter.
Steve - You want to see us beat Sunderland because it’s a cup game and we want to get to the next round. That’s where we get the money from! Would definitely be nice to see maximum points from the rest of them!
Lewis - Everyone loves a cup run, so it would be nice to have one of them in the FA Cup! In the Spurs game, I’d like to see some fringe players perform. They haven’t done it, yet, in these sort of games, and we need them to. In terms of the league, I think scoring goals is starting to become a problem. Early in the season I didn’t think we missed Tom Eaves, but, at the minute, it’s started to show that we are.

SINCE GILLINGHAM WERE PROMOTED AS LEAGUE TWO CHAMPIONS IN THE 2012 / 2013 SEASON, GILLINGHAM HAVE FINISHED IN SEVENTEENTH, TWELFTH, NINTH, TWENTIETH, SEVENTEENTH AND THIRTEENTH POSITION’S IN LEAGUE ONE, AND FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE LAST SIX SEASON’S HAVE SEEN GILLINGHAM INVOLVED IN A BATTLE TO AVOID RELEGATION, WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE CASE, AND WHAT DO YOU THINK NEEDS TO CHANGE FOR GILLINGHAM TO BE CHALLENGING TOWARDS THE TOP END OF THE LEAGUE ONE TABLE ???
Rob - Well, the obvious one is the man upstairs. We can't spend any more money, so we can't really get any better players in. That said, I think we might end up mid-table this season, but no higher.
Gills Anorak - A mixture of things. Players and Managers who were not good enough or when we had a couple of top players this wasn’t enough to build a promotion winning side. We need investment but not at the expense of being the next Bury.
Lee - I think we’ve just lacked a lot compared to other clubs and haven’t had the best financial improvements and income of our chairman who I won’t get carried away about. Our fate will soon be league 2 football again and it’s a shame because this level of football is great for the club but we just never look to battle for a spot in the championship and always seem to settle for a bottom half finish and is getting boring now.
Louis - I do not think the team has evolved enough since getting back into league one and the quality of players has stagnated. The Gills seemed to had been stuck in a rut and finishing 13th last season did not reflect upon a poor season we had. The team needed a brand new shape and that is why I believe Scally appointed Evens. He was not my first choice but can see what he is trying to do and so far it seems to be working but there is still more improvement needed. If we are to challenge at the top end of the table then we do need to find a way to give our strikers plenty more attacking opportunity.
Ben - Maybe the idea of recruitment, we've got some good players, but we need to add to the squad we have, so maybe investment too.
Luke - There's only one answer to that and it's money. The business model that the club is run under is not to lose money which makes perfect business sense, however as we don't make enough revenue there isn't enough profit to reinvest into the playing squad. External investment is seriously needed if we want to return to the championship any time soon but I just stress, it can't be at the detriment to the club losing money.
RichardS - Simple. More money. Sorry but the game has changed and it's now virtually impossible to make significant progress without it. We may strike lucky occasionally but that's more luck than judgement. Otherwise we will find our level which is about where we are now I'm afraid. If we can get new investors, a new stadium then we may move forward.
Steve - Win more matches! Scally should put his hand in his pocket, especially this January, maybe switch it up a bit. And start the best players!
Lewis - Most people will say investment. Sure, it’s hard to get good results consistently when there’s not loads of money out there, but it’s possible to do well with good coaching alone. I hope Evans and Raynor can continue to help the squad, and then we should move up the league.
9. IF YOU CAN SIGN THREE PLAYERS FROM ANY TEAM(S) IN LEAGUE ONE TO IMPROVE GILLINGHAM’S SQUAD, WHICH THREE PLAYERS WILL YOU SIGN AND WHY ???
Rob - That's a tough one. I'm not sure on names, but I think we are missing a deadly finisher up top (someone like Deon Burton when he was with us) and a backup left back. Could do with maybe a right back, as a push.
Gills Anorak - Kane Vincent-Young because he’s going to be in the Premier League in the next couple of years. Kayden Jackson and Tariqe Fosu as we need goals.
Lee - Player One - Ivan Toney from Peterborough Reason - An all round great player who is always involved in the goals for the posh and the times I’ve been to Peterborough I’ve been shocked and left thinking of how he isn’t playing at a high level and I think wherever he went he would be an asset and would be great to see him play at ME7 Player Two - Joe Jacobson from Wycombe  Reason - what a player he is I really like the way he plays and he reminds me of Barry Fuller and in defence together would be a great addition  Player Three - John Akinde from Lincoln  Reason - He impressed me at Barnet and could be what we need going forward
Louis - The first player I would sign would be Jonson Clarke-Harris (Bristal Rovers). He is a proven goal scorer and causes defenders problems throughout the league. At the age of 25 he could improve more. I really do rate him and he would improve our attacking line up immensely. The second would be Cameron Brannagan (Oxford). This player is young at 23 and has a very good passing success rate as well as creating a lot of goal scoring opportunity for his team. He has a very good assist rate and would be someone who could feed the decent balls we need to our strikers in a game. Once more he can dribble the ball very well which is something our team has been lacking for many years. The third would be Luke Chambers (Ipswich). He has been solid at the back for Ipswich with a high number of blocks and clearances which has saved his team points over a number of games this seasons. Having another player like this in our squad would no doubt boost confidence in the team as a whole.
Ben - James Norwood, from Ipswich, for the simple reason I rate him and he'd get us goals! Marcus Maddison as a creative midfielder! And Lynden Gooch, as he's a good midfielder and is quite creative.
Luke - Marcus Maddison & Ivan Toney from Posh. Aiden McGeady from Sunderland - They're all better than what we currently have.
RichardS - Well this really does relate to my point above. But Jonson Clarke Harris of Bristol Rovers, Both Mo Eisa and Marcus Maddison of Peterborough. If I can have a 4th then Paddy Madden of Fleetwood. Why? We are desperately in need of goal scorers..Simple.
Steve - We need a striker, so we should raid Peterborough. Eisa or Toney would be lovely. In fact, take them both! Left back as well - Josh Ruffels from Oxford would be nice.
Lewis - I’m going to think tactically, here. We need a striker, so I’m going to chose James Norwood from Ipswich. I think we need to strengthen at full-back, so I’m going to take Chris Cadden from Oxford. I’d rather have a left-back, but Cadden is a talent, so Fuller can just shuffle to the left, again. Finally, I’m going to get a wide player in, and I’d be silly not to go with Marcus Maddison. He’s probably the best player in the league.
10. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ON STEVE EVANS BEING APPOINTED AS GILLINGHAM MANAGER ???
Rob - I don't like the man for a wide variety of reasons. I want the club and the players to do well. I cheer on the players, not the manager.
Gills Anorak - Wasn’t keen on him being appointed but if he helps to become a better team and doesn’t embarrass the club in the process then it’s fine.
Lee - I like Steve he is passionate and likes his point being put across. He’s assistant Paul Raynor is childish and nearly got hit at half time by the Accrington Manager Saturday as he didn’t shut up going into the tunnel.
Louis - I was one of many who did not want him to get the job. Once appointed (like any other manager) I will support him and see what he can do. I can see positives in the team and you can see how he wants to change the setup of our game. I think it is a working progress and something that will be more gradual then instant which many others were hoping for. There is improvement in the quality of the squad and he has more then just a plan A under his belt. Evans is also not afraid to try new things but one worry of mine is that he could still get himself in some trouble which would reflect against the club badly and ruin the progress he has already started to build. I am happy with what he has done so far but not in a position for signing his name in the stands.
Ben - I quite liked the appointment, it's a new type of appointment as we've had club legends and the Edinburgh esq with success down the pyramid! But Evans is proven in LG 1.
Luke - Never wanted Evans in charge and his current record hasn't done wonders to try and change my mind. Will give him until Christmas now as we aren't quite in immediate danger but I don't personally think we've improved from the side that was under the stewardship of Steve Lovell last season.
RichardS - I have always said if he gets results then fine. It's a results driven business with little sentiment. If we climb the league then fine. However if results are not forthcoming then he will be accountable like any other manager.
Steve - It’s not been as good as I thought it would be. At the Q&A it was positive and everyone was excited, but it just hasn’t happened. Disappointed right now.
Lewis - I think I said before that I wasn’t happy with it at the time, but I settled on the idea more as time went on. I just fear that it’s not going to end pretty - I feel like I’m just waiting for the time to come where it all comes crashing down. I hope I’m wrong!

Rob - Gills Vs Wycombe in 1997. Finished 1-0 to Gills.
Gills Anorak - v Brighton 1993. We won.
Lee - Gillingham v Burton Albion Saturday 20th October 2012 4-1 win Great game and one that left me addicted to crazily enough come back lol!
Louis - First Gills game was against Colchester in Nov 1989. I do not remember much of the game except it was cold. After doing a bit of research the score finished 3-3.
Ben - Gills Vs Stockport 3-1 in December 2009.
Luke - Gillingham Vs Leeds United FA Cup 4th Round on January 28th 2003. Finished 1-1. Alan Smith scored a free kick for Leeds before Mark Viduka got sent off for an elbow on Andy Hessenthaler. Big Mama Sidibe got us an equaliser. Great result against a side full of Premier League greats.
RichardS - Very vague in the memory but early 1980's and finished 1-1. Lincoln City I think.
Steve - It was actually the Manchester City game at Wembley in the 1999 play-off final. I’d always followed Gillingham, but no one else had any interest. A friend of mine was going to Wembley and invited me, and I haven’t looked back. Everyone knows how the game went!
Lewis - My first Gillingham game was Gillingham v Port Vale at Priestfield on 08/12/07; I was eight years old. We went 1-0 up thanks to Chris Dickson, but Vale came back and won 2-1. Start as you mean to go on, I guess! I sat in the Town End, too, and it hammered it down!

BRANDON HANLAN, MIKAEL NDJOLI, ALEX JAKUBIAK AND MIKAEL MANDRON HAVE SCORED TWELVE GOALS BETWEEN THE FOUR OF THEM THIS SEASON, HOW DO ALL FOUR STRIKERS IMPROVE THERE GOALSCORING FORM, AND DO YOU THINK ALL FOUR PLAYERS MENTIONED ABOVE GET MANY OPPORTUNITIES PER GAME TO STICK THE BALL INTO THE BACK OF THE NET ???
Rob - All, aside from Mandron, appear to be best suited to a second-striker role, coming in from inside forward positions to feed off a main target man. Unfortunately, Mandron hasn't quite fulfilled that role yet. The others don't look prolific but I think they may all have a run of goals at some point this season. When we play long balls, all except Mandron struggle to compete.
Gills Anorak - They have plenty of chances but I don’t think any of them are natural goal scorers at the moment or consistent enough as a goal scoring striker.
Lee - I think they’ve all been great and I would really like to see them start as a front 4 and strive as a group if possible.
Louis - All four strikers have different attributes then one another. Hanlan has some good work ethic, Mandron can finish a ball well one on one. Ndjoli can cause opposing defenders to make mistakes with his trickery and Jakubiak can take players on and put the ball into the box. I think all four needs to have a better supply but each player likes to receive the ball in different ways which makes it complicated. Also the consistent change of strikers dose not help the matter. Example: So if you change the way midfielders try to assist the strikers but then change the strikers in which the new system dose not suite them, then we are stuck with the same problem.
Hanlan needs to stay on his feet more when challenged for the ball. There has been many a occasion where if he easily stood his ground then he would of been through with a dangerous attacking chance. He has shown he can do this but mainly because he did not start the game and just came of the bench or when we conceded a goal and then the urgency to get a goal back kicks in. Mandron needs to be able to hold onto the ball better. Yes he can finish well but it is no good if he cant not keep hold of the ball. Ndjoli is clearly a talented player when he wants to be but can get lost in games which makes him ineffective at times, Jakubiak is our biggest threat in front of goal but he does get used in different ways and sometimes a game does not suit him. He also needs to use his team mates a bit more as sometimes he does try and do it on his own a little too much.
Ben - Ndjoli and Hanlan for me get enough chances, to get goals! They all just need to be more clinical.
Luke - Well they all need to hit the net more than they currently are. Brandon probably creates the most chances for himself but he needs help and needs to perhaps play alongside Mandron regularly to get the best out of him. Jakubiak has a knack of getting in the right places but overcomplicates things too much imo. Ndjoli needs to focus on the game more but has plenty of ability. Penalties aren't his strong point however.
RichardS - They all have ability. Ndjoli has real potential but is what I can only describe as a loose cannon. Hanlan can be superb on his day. I think they could create more but frankly have as many opportunities as the team provides them. In reality probably not enough.
Steve - They don’t get much service, because I don’t think we play our most creative players, Lee and Pringle. That would be a good start to get more goals!
Lewis - Hanlan’s finishing isn’t great, but, apart from that, he’s a good player. Jakubiak has his back to goal far too often for my liking, and the other two just seen a bit lightweight! That being said, they don’t get enough opportunities, no, because we don’t create much. Hopefully that changes soon!

*i just got haar in feh and his voice is way higher than i ever imagined it to be sjsjdjd
*hello, today i woke up at 12:30pm... but i was very groggy and didn’t get out of bed for a long time. when i got up, i continued filling out my dnd list, ate some food, played the sims while eating
*today on the sims, i didn’t do much, i just played through one in-game day. i had hera get her last scout badge, the outdoor badge. that one tends to be the last one i get because i just make my sim grill food once they’re a teen... mostly bc i forget that fishing is also an option. summer also started in the game so now my spliced plants aren’t growing and i haven’t gotten my rare plants from them :/
*i’m torn between getting physical copies versus buying dnd books on dnd beyond, but i caved in and bought volo’s guide on amazon? it won’t be here for another 1-2 weeks though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it took a long time but i’ve almost finished my list. it’s just me making characters for a story in a dnd setting that i want to write for myself. i still have to fine tune the new world i just made so i can place my characters in it
*i keep thinking about a dream i had the other day in which my family owned a beach house, and it was a cute little cabin on those house stilts? it had an xbox one that came with it? at one point my dream shifted to a “memory” of me and my high school friend group driving to the beach house in a convertible. it was terrible because half of those girls are no longer my friends and i had this distinct ... like UGH feeling that woke me up

Hey all, Dani here.
So you might be asking, “hey Dani, wasn’t Gen Con at the beginning of the month? Why do a wrap up now?” Well, I had one of my blog buddies say she would love to read about my time at Gen Con, especially as she wants to start trying to diversify her conventions, but she also wanted more information first.
Plus, when you get a little removed from an event (or a book/movie/etc), it is easier to distance yourself from any super happy or super upset feelings you might have had at the time, and you can write a more factual and balanced review of everything. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.
Gen Con is a gaming convention, and it features hundreds of game developers and companies, as well as business that sell game accessories. Now when I say gaming convention, the easy assumption is that I am talking about video games, but I don’t think I have seen any sort of video or console type game there. No, this is a gaming convention for tabletop gaming, which means board games, card games, dice games, and tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons.
This year was the 51st Gen Con and it was even bigger than the previous year. The photos don’t even come close to showing how large or crowded this convention is, because there are just so many wonderful geeks in the world, and events like this really help you to see how not alone in the world you are. It is currently held in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it is an amazing experience. The convention itself takes up the entire Indiana Convention Center, plus they have also spread out into several of the nearby hotels, and Lucas Oil Stadium (which is the arena where the local NFL team, the Indianapolis Colts, are based). What I love about having part of Gen Con in the football stadium is that they house the gaming library there, and if you have purchased a pass to use the library, then you can go there 24 hours a day through the four day convention and borrow a game to play. Yes, a bunch of lovely geeks swarm through this holy house of jock-dom for four whole days.
We actually went to Indianapolis a day early, on August 1st, so we wouldn’t have to wake up at 5am the next day to make the three hour drive. It ended up being the best decision we could have made. We were able to pick up all of our tickets that day, and also just relax a bit. Okay, so we also went to an Irish pub (O’Reilly’s Irish Pub) for my birthday, which then turned into the Irish pub and then a Scottish pub (MacNiven’s). So I had a Shepard’s Pie, and then we had bread pudding for dessert. At the Scottish pub we had Scotch Eggs. Then we went to a comic book store (Downtown Comics) too, so naturally I picked up a few things.
And that’s just all the fun from the day before the convention. Now let’s get to the actual first day of Gen Con. It was a mad house, and we went straight for the Critical Role booth, because there was some cool merchandise that we were hoping to get, and we waited for a good half-hour or so to actually make it to the booth. But I ended up with dice and shirts and even a map for the current campaign, so I am super pleased.
I’m not going to lie guys…we spent most of our money on day one. There are just so many cool games and accessories and costume pieces. It is a geek wonderland. The first day of the convention was also a cool day because we got to meet Joe Mangianello. Now most people will probably recognize Joe from being in the show True Blood, or possibly from the Magic Mike movies. What you may not know is that he is a massive geek, loves D&D, and actually has a really cool gaming dungeon in his home. We waited for almost an hour to meet him, but it was totally worth the wait…and I got him to sign my Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Player’s Handbook, so that is also pretty awesome. Oh, and the game pictured below is A Song of Ice and Fire, and it is sort of a battlefield strategy game based on Game of Thrones. We watched it being playtested and it seemed pretty interesting. Of course neither my fiance nor our other buddy who went with us has seen the show (or read the books) so it was just a cool looking game to them.
Day two of the convention we spent a lot of time just running around and checking out some of the games. At most of the game developer booths, you can sit down and play the game before you buy it. Okay well if it is a shorter game you can play through the whole game, but longer games they pretty much prefer you to just play a few rounds to get an idea of how the game works. There are a lot of other people around who would also like to try playing the games. The highlight for day two of the convention for us was actually that evening after the convention center closed. We met up with the owners of our hometown game store and they actually bought us dinner at this bar (The Yard House). My fiance and I run a couple D&D campaigns for them and they wanted to thank us for everything we’ve done for the store. Free food is definitely the way to do that. But after that, we had tickets to go see Critical Role live. It was my second time going, but my fiance’s first, and I was so glad I got to share the experience with him. Oh, and there was a surprise guest star for the episode of Critical Role…Khary Payton, an actor some people may recognize from the Walking Dead.
We had an extremely lazy day for day three of the convention. Critical Role Live ended around 1 am, and then we had to walk back to the parking garage where our car was parked (only to discover that the parking garage had closed for the night, so we had to run around to figure out who to contact to get to our car). By the time we made it back to the hotel we were staying at, it was around 2:30 am. Because we were also low on spending money, we just decided to hang out at the hotel, enjoy the pool, watch some TV, and play some of the games we had purchased. The only convention event we had on our schedule for the day was going to Dungeon Master, which is a live interactive show. It ended up being a very entertaining show, but the real reason I got tickets for this particular show was that it was being opened with a concert by The Library Bards, and they are a geek parody band who makes covers of Top 40 hits by making them into geeky songs–for example “Zombie” by the Cranberries becomes a song about Deadpool and Harley Quinn cosplayers called “Black and Red”, and Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” becomes a LOTR/Hobbit song called “Gandalf.”
Finally, we made it to day four, the last day of the convention. We played a couple more games, and made a couple more purchases with the little spending money we had left. I will be completely honest everyone. I hate the last day of a convention. The last day means that I have to go home and return to my regular day-to-day schedule. It means leaving a place where I am surrounded by thousands of people who like a lot of the same stuff I do, and going back to a place where only a small percentage of people actually understand me. Leaving a convention after having such a great time is always difficult. But on our way back to our car before the three hour drive back home, I decided that we needed to get something to eat, and after walking past this pizza shop over a dozen times, we finally stopped into Giordano’s to get some Chicago Style Deep Dish pizzas.
I guess I should talk about this last picture. There are a lot of booths at Gen Con that give out these little ribbons that you can attach to your convention badge. For many attendees at the convention it becomes a scavenger hunt to collect as many as possible. I have seen people with enough ribbons hanging from their badge to make a long scarf or sash. It is impressive. We only went to Gen Con for one day in 2017, so I think we got one or two ribbons. Obviously this year I did much better, but I’m still hoping for a more impressive collection next year.
Next year I also plan to attend a few panels and/or workshops, because we didn’t really do that this year. There is a whole section of the convention that is a Writer’s Showcase, and they have some great industry professionals there to hold classes on worldbuilding or magic or editing, etc. The guests of honor this year were the duo behind S.A. Corey, author of The Expanse series. Previous years have had Patrick Rothfuss in attendance. Margaret Weis was there this year as well. So next year I definitely want to spend a little more time in the bookish side of Gen Con–though I did walk through that entire area on the show floor, and I will show off everything I purchased in my August Wrap-Up post.

Most weekdays...
Most mornings we get up later than planned and are in a rush. (Some things never change). If there is time, one of us will usually shower. Our shower consists of a nice, smooth, flat, marbled stone floor with sliding glass doors and a modern showerhead. The other side of the shower, however, is a full length window looking out at an identical apartment building about 200 feet away. Yes, it is a clear window from floor to ceiling. To protect the bather’s privacy, there is a shower rod and curtain hanging over the window.
Suzie calls the elevator while I lock the apartment door. Leaving our building, we walk across the large courtyard at the center of the seven identical towering apartment buildings. It is a meticulously landscaped area with covered spaces, a playground, simple exercise machines, and instructions how to clean up after your dog. In the mornings there are always several older, retired Chinese walking around the stone pathways while stretching their arms or using the exercise machines. Often a man is practicing tai chi in traditional dress, making the slow, graceful movements alone in a small, separate courtyard.
We walk briskly among hordes of young Chinese professionals in business-casual dress that spill out of the apartment buildings and head down to the street with us. At the bottom of a small hill, a half-dozen large coach buses are waiting for the Chinese workers. They line up and file into each bus until it is full. Each full bus departs and is soon replaced by another identical bus. I have heard that some companies provide housing for their employees in the apartment buildings and shuttle them to and from work every day. There are hundreds of them that leave on the identical buses every morning. The gender ratio of the workers seems to be 50/50, but the age range looks to be extremely narrow – perhaps between 24-28.
On a smaller scale, the school where I teach and Suzie studies also provides housing for its foreign employees and a bus takes us to and from school as well. A single bus takes employees and their children from two apartment complexes to the school which is a short 15-minute drive.
Our school is in an elegant 7-story office building. We are let in the gate by security guards and every teacher and student swipes their badges as they enter. Practically all students eat their breakfast and lunch in the school cafeteria which provides hot, cooked meals. The teachers can eat at the cafeteria for free so Suzie and I always have breakfast together before her first class. Most Chinese students, as young as 1st graders, typically eat a steaming bowl of noodles with balls of meat to which they have added spoonsful of hot chili sauce. They also drink milk from small, metal bowls. Being vegetarian, Suzie and I are usually limited to some steamed buns, bread, a hard-boiled egg, and a small sweet cake. The exception is when they have vegetarian dumplings! On these days, the food servers behind the glass windows wave me and Suzie down, point to the dumplings, and give us a thumbs-up. They drop the dumplings into boiling water for about one minute and then serve them to us in metal bowls. Suzie puts soy sauce on hers and I put soy sauce and chili sauce on mine. They are delicious! We don’t even notice anymore that there are no forks in the entire school – just a container in the middle of every table filled with metal chopsticks and spoons for soup.
The students are let into the cafeteria about ten minutes after we arrive and they line up for breakfast. Many students greet their teachers enthusiastically, especially the younger ones.
After breakfast, Suzie heads to her first class, AP Comparative Government, and I either make a quick run to the Starbucks down the street or head up to the 7th floor where I can work at a desk outside the administrative offices. I review my lesson plans for the day or do some grading before my first class. This year I am teaching Social Studies to 4th graders and Classics to 5th graders. It is my first time teaching students this young.
I am currently teaching the 4th graders about the origins and structure of the U.S. government. The school uses a U.S.-based curriculum as it is meant to prepare students for universities in the United States. Last week, after teaching the students about the separation of powers, elections, and the system of checks and balances, my Chinese co-teacher told me that the students are having a hard time understanding the content because it is so far removed from their life experience. There are no civics classes in China and the idea of power being divided or of individual citizens having any political power is hard for them to comprehend.
When I was teaching about the Declaration of Independence, I projected on the board the famous line:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
As I was about to read it to the class, my Chinese co-teacher interrupted me and asked if she could read it to the class. “Of course,” I replied.
As she started to read it, she teared up and could barely finish it. The students stared, startled by seeing their teacher choked up. “Are you crying, Ms. Chen?” they asked.
“It is a very emotional sentence!” she responded defensively. The students then turned to me. I was just as surprised as the students by the teacher’s reaction. “Are you crying, Mr. Mac?”
“Ummm….no. I guess I have heard it so many times I am just used to it.” I didn’t want to belittle my colleague’s reaction and it did remind me of the profundity of the statement – especially for its time in history.
In my Classics classes, I teach the 5th grade about the four major “classical” civilizations – Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. On the first day of class, the students asked “What about China?” I responded that the four we would learn about were classical only to western civilization and that Chinese civilization was SO important that they would study it for an entire year in 7th grade, which is true. This satisfied their national pride.
Friends and family in the U.S. often ask me if students in China are different from students in the U.S. They assume they are more disciplined, respectful, and hard-working. In fact, some teachers who had taught in China told me that was the case. My experience, however, has been that there is no difference at all. They are just as rambunctious, fidgety, frustrating, inspiring, hilarious, and idiosyncratic as my students in Arizona. Some are unruly, some have a 5-second attention span, some amaze me with their questions, some are extremely organized, and some cannot remember to bring a pencil to class.
Every day I eat lunch with other teachers and there are usually a few vegetarian options. There is always rice and a tofu, eggplant, sweet potato, and/or bok choy dish. They are usually pretty heavy on the oil, but there is also fruit and salad. After lunch I have recess duty where I keep a close eye on the interactions between the Chinese students and the few American students as they have been tense lately.
Most days after school I have either a staff meeting, a parent meeting, or Student Hours. Suzie has Arabic Club and World Scholars Club as well. Afterwards, we take the bus home. We often order dinner to be delivered because it is cheap and we are too exhausted to cook before studying or grading. A deliveryman comes to the door with pesto pasta, a small pizza, Indian food, or some paninis and I pay him with WeChat. Suzie and I talk about our day and share gossip.
Around 8pm every night I use WeChat to video-chat with my girlfriend back home. We are 15 hours ahead of Tucson so she wakes up at 5am to chat for an hour or so. I share the events of my day and she shares those of her previous day. She wishes me a goodnight and I tell her to have a good day. We are counting the days until we can see each other again.
After we hang up, I use the VPN to watch Seth Meyers’ latest video on YouTube or the latest soccer highlights. Sometimes I read a chapter or two in the book I am reading or listen to some music. Suzie studies, goes out to see friends, or watches shows on the laptop. Then we go to sleep.
