and many commenters on different platforms seem to be displeased with the lack of character development that lee tang gets throughout the show, as well as the lack of a "real" protagonist.
i personally think that, much like raskolnikov in crime and punishment, who i believe (here, I might be wrong since it's been like 5 years since I've read the book so my memories of it are rather jaded) also exhibited little, to no character development throughout the whole book, lee tang remains the same inwardly despite the fact he believes himself to have changed in that small amount of time and even tries to prove that by dressing differently (his hair, outfits), changing his life style (exercising more and etc.). He's still largely confused and unsure about his abilities and hasn't really reconciled with this new version of himself (the constant waves of guilt he gets, those weird dreams and etc.) and still has doubts (maybe he'll be having those doubts forever) about the nature of his deeds and whether they're justifiable or he's really just a murderer. A sudden character development would make no sense in this show, at least that's my opinion.
When it comes to the lack of a protagonist, I think that the real protagonist of this show is the fucked up world we all live in, while lee tang just emerges as a temporal solution to some of its problems (temporal because he can't live forever and clean the streets of its vices).

Upon watching Band of Brothers for the umpteenth time since like, 2013, I can confirm 2 things:
BoB never gets old. Like ever. It’s timeless.
I still fucking love Joseph Liebgott so damn much.

Akemi and control
I usually don't make character analysis but this show and specifically Akemi's character have rotted my brain. Someone probably articulated this better than me, but I'll go ahead anyway.
Spoilers ahead
Akemi is a fascinating character to me, it sems that she doesn't really care which path in life she takes as long as she's in control of it.
And she constantly expresses frustration towards the men around her for taking that control from her.
First, she accepts that she has to get married so she tries to take control of that by choosing who she will marry, and that person is Taigen.
Then Taigen "fucks up" and he's no longer suited to marry her, so her father and Seki decide who she has to marry. She runs away to try to fix the situation and ends up meeting other women (specifically sex workers) and she finds community with them.
And this is probably my interpretation, but I felt that she was planning on staying with Madame Kaji at least a little while because she saw another path in life there, but then Mizu decides for her what's best for her and allows her father's guards to take her away.
Then she marries the Shogun's son and finds a new path in life, she decides she's going to take control, this arranged marriage WILL go her way. And once again her father decides he will "rescue" her from that marriage, assuming what's best for her as he always does.
And she resents these men (I include Mizu here because Akemi sees Mizu as a man) for taking control of her life, she resents the way the world works for women and wants to change that world.
Don't really know how to ends this so I will just say I love Akemi and want to see where her character goes in season 2 (I'm assuming and hoping that there'll be a second season because what the hell was that ending).

I can't with this season, it just keeps getting better and better. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. The things I have seen on tv are unparalleled: Nandor's bachelor murder game, a whole episode dedicated to Nandor's penis (that I remind you, he *can't* use without thinking of Guillermo and everything he's done for him), the night market and the ✨ fight ✨, the masterpiece that was Private School, the fake dating, Guillermo and Nadja both embezzling from the night club, Nandor's wedding being such a complete disaster (including more than an hour of objections), Girls night and Mamma Mia, Guillermo coming out, his slayer family that loves and accepts his sexuality but slutshames him for being a monsterfucker...
and the absolute insanity I witnessed tonight! The parody of house renovation was so well done, them bleeping all the swearing, Nadja inmediately killing one of the brothers, Laszlo is such a fanboy (he stole the shirt from the corpse), Nandor and Guillermo burying the body, Nadja's hypnosis, Marwa getting her space even though she's brainwashed, the house looking exactly the same after the renovation and of course, Simon coming up with over 150 episodes of a tv show just to get the cursed hat back.
Truly, the best tv show, truly its best season so far.

OKEY BUT
I'm studying cultural anthropology for 5 years now and OFMD2 showed how important is to understand cultural context in process to understanding people around us. This is exacly what my professors are trying to explain - if someone believes that smth is real even tho we don't belive it, it is real because the reactions and later effects are real.
I will literally send this scene to my class

there's something so powerful about the hurt in s2 being healed by art and creation and imagination. lucius only moving on and seeking love when izzy reminds him that there's more to the world than fear and angry through the shark carving. izzy growing and healing through drag and singing for the crew. the whole idea of the party (where they literally took the pain and hurt symbolised by the loot, sold it and created a whole new celebration that focuses on art and creation) where we get to see the revenge as a family once more and happy together again. something about the power of art when learning to deal with yourself and be a better person <3

"We could get a new boat, new names, new backstories. Everything. We could go somewhere they'll never find us."
So this took about 6 hours to paint and I'm pretty pleased. I think Izzy was the only choice for the waiter standing at the back.

Xander: In no way do we stick out like sore thumbs.
Willow: Ok but do they really stick out? Have you ever seen a thumb and thought, wow, that baby is sore.
Xander: You have too many thoughts.

The problem with how amazing the music video for Last Place Hero is is that I never fully listened to the lyrics because I was always distracted by everyone’s cute little outfits and hijinks, but actually listening to the song it’s so good
