leah williamson - "you got a what piercing!?" really cheeky reader cause that's so youuu
something silver II l.williamson
it had taken all of your self restraint not to tell leah when you'd first thought of the idea, egged on during a night out with school friends when it was first floated.
you'd always had trouble keeping things in when you knew it would make someone happy. you'd spoiled nearly all of your anniversary presents purely from being unable to withhold from seeing the way leahs eyes lit up when you told her what she'd be receiving.
but you'd held your tongue and done your research and your girlfriend was none the wiser. the surprise in question was a new piercing and as much as your excitement peaked right up until the day of your appointment, reality was swift.
in the sense that it fucking hurt.
you almost broke your best friends hand who offered to go with you, the poor girl grunting in pain but putting up with it having had hers done last year so knowing all too well what you were currently experiencing.
but then it was done and you were being driven home, your best friend buying you ice cream on the way as you grabbed something for leah knowing she'd just be home from training when you arrived.
and sure enough her car was in the driveway as you made your way to the front door, tugging your jumper tighter around you and grateful you'd not worn anything tighter fitting just yet.
"lee? i'm back!" you sung out as you let yourself in, glancing around with a frown when nothing could be heard back, but then an all too familiar bark of laughter sounded from outside and you followed the source.
your girlfriend was sat on the back deck, lounging in a sun chair with her training gear on and her phone pressed to her ear, clearly chatting away with someone quite happily as you left her to it.
you instead busied yourself putting away the groceries she'd brought home with her at your request, almost done when you heard footsteps sound back into the house and a moment later arms wrapped around you.
as cute as this normal habit was as leahs hand brushed your new piercing you hissed, the blonde retracting instantly at the noise as you spun around and met her furrowed brows of concern.
"i'm okay!" you promised, cupping her face and bringing her in for a soft kiss of reassurance, leahs hands falling to your hips and drawing your body closer. though again as your chest pressed against hers you made a strange noise and recoiled.
"okay no. babe whats going on?" leah questioned, frown etched into her features as you sighed. "go sit on the sofa, i'll be in in two seconds." you nodded over her shoulder as the taller girl gave you a funny look.
"two seconds, promise. go!!" you pushed her shoulders with a small laugh as she huffed but did as you asked none the less, putting away a few things and ducking off into the guest bathroom to make sure everything was sitting correctly.
with a satisfied nod you followed after leah who was sat on the sofa with her head buried in her phone, but as soon as you joined her it was tossed to the side and an eyebrow raised curiously in your direction.
"so i did something today, and it means i have both good and bad news." you started, leah nodding for you to continue as you sighed. "so. bad news first, we won't be able to kiss for a week or so-" you started, leah sitting bolt upright and opening her mouth to argue as you held up a hand and she fell silent.
"-because i got a tongue piercing." you finished, leahs eyes widening in shock, clearly not having anticipated those words leaving your mouth. "you got a what piercing?!" leah spluttered out as you nodded with a smile.
"tongue. but while it heals we're not allowed to kiss and i have to eat soft foods and-" you started to list off as leah firmly shook her head. "nah nah you're messing with me, babe there is no way you got a tongue piercing. you're scared of needles! you fainted when you got your flu shot!" leah scoffed in disbelief.
"i really did." you nodded, barely able to blink before leah was stood up in front of you, hand clasping your jaw. "show me." she ordered clearly trying to pry your mouth open making you laugh and shove her away.
"leah!" "no, show me!" "get off you idiot!" you laughed as she almost tackled you down to the couch, squeezing either side of your jaw as you rolled your eyes but opened your mouth causing her scowl to deepen.
"liar. why would you lie to me like that!" leah huffed seeing your very much hole free tongue. "well thats the good news." you grinned, pushing her away and standing again, though this time right in front of her.
"the good news is that you didn't get a tongue piercing and aren't withholding kisses from me?" leah rolled her eyes as you shook your head. "no, i did get a piercing today." you announced as leah sighed, leaning back into the sofa clearly assuming this was another rouse.
"what? your cli-" "leah!" you cut her off with wide eyes, cheeks flushing red as she only shrugged and you kicked her gently.
"no. these!" you took her again off guard as you lifted up your jumper, revealing the two brand new rings settled into your nipples as leahs jaw slackened and almost hit the floor.
"jesus christ." the girl exhaled shakily, eyes locked onto your chest making your proud smile widen. "why wouldn't you just...lead with that." leah mumbled shaking her head, eyes never moving as you shrugged.
"more fun that way." you grinned cheekily as finally leahs eyes flickered upward to shoot you a playful glare. "well come here then, let me inspect properly." you squealed at her hands grabbing at the waistband of your pants and pulling you down onto her lap.
but right as her hands moved you took them in yours and pinned them to her side with a shake of her head. "nuh uh, no touching until they heal." you warned as leah groaned and threw her head back. "seriously? thats just cruel." the blonde sighed as your grin grew.
"patience williamson, i know thats not your strong suit but lets consider this a learning opportunity." you teased, squeezing her hands still locked with yours. "but they are-" you leaned in so you spoke right into her ear.
"-very, very, very sensitive." you whispered, kissing her neck and retreating though right as she let out a quiet groan and leaned in to properly kiss you you were off her, pulling down your jumper and leaving her almost falling off the sofa as she kissed empty air.
"fine. how long do i have to be patient for then? wicked woman." leah sighed, following after where you disappeared to the kitchen, handing her a recovery shake from the fridge as you grabbed out a water for yourself.
"three to four weeks until you can play with them." you answered casually right as leah took a sip, though clearly that was a mistake as the girl choked and you gasped as she did a partial spit take.
"leah catherine!" you growled, face flecked with shake as the blonde covered her mouth and quickly put down the half chugged shake. "baby i am so-" you held up a hand with closed eyes and she fell silent, covering her smile with her hand.
"i am going to shower." you warned, opening your eyes to glare at her as you stormed off but didn't hear her footsteps follow after you. "well are you coming?" you paused by the door to ask, raising an eyebrow as the blonde scurried to catch up almost tripping over herself in her haste.
"oh no no, you're coming with me." you warned, hand to her chest stopping her from pulling her top off as you quickly stripped off your jumper feeling your ego rise from the way leahs cheeks heated up and her eyes dropped right to your chest.
"but i thought-" "no, patience remember? so you can sit and look, but you don't get to touch." you turned around with a satisfied grin as leah groaned loudly but dropped to sit down on the closed lid of the toilet, chin resting on her hand with a scowl as you stripped off properly and stepped into the shower.
"this is going to be the longest month of my life."

“hungover” - hotch x fem!reader
after a girls’ night in, you wake up next to your boyfriend.
1380 words - FLUFFY FLUFF
cw; mentions of alcohol and food, implied age gap?, typical hangover, jemily agenda (sry not sry)
a/n: I wrote this on my phone on vacation bc I have a serious problem
———————
The first thing you notice when you wake up is that you are not in your clothes.
You aren’t in your clothes. And you only realize it because of the scent wafting up your nose. Sea Salt Breeze - the cologne you’d gotten him for Christmas last year - emanates from the t-shirt that envelopes your upper half. You dip your chin for another whiff, breathing him in deeply. You want the smell inscribed into your brain.
You feel the bed dip and creak and you instinctively shut your eyes, playing possum as Aaron pads into the bathroom. The door whines as he shuts it most of the way, not totally closing it because he thinks you’re still asleep and that the sound of the door shutting will wake you.
Each of your senses turns on one at a time, like your brain waves run on dial-up Internet. You open your eyes and the room is mostly dark, save for the sliver of light creeping in through the outline of the curtains. You run the palm of your hand along Aaron’s sheets and marvel over how soft they are - Egyptian cotton, he’d told you once before.
Your head hurts, but only mildly. You’d certainly been drunker before, but last night was still up there. Penelope made her mojitos strong.
You slowly sit up in the bed as Aaron opens the door, flicking the bathroom light off in the same motion. Your eyes meet his and he cracks a small smile. “Thought you’d still be asleep,” he muses. You love his pale blue boxers and seeing the hair on his legs. His calves are crazy defined - he’s a runner, after all, but still. You rarely see him in anything but a suit and tie, so it’s always a treat. “I didn’t wake you, did I?”
You shake your head, wincing slightly at the movement. Maybe you’re a little more hungover than you thought. “I was already awake,” you mumble, running a hand over your face. “Did you put me in your own clothes last night? I have pajamas in my drawer,” you point out, gesturing to the second drawer of Aaron’s dresser, the one that contains your set of pajamas, a few spare pairs of underwear, and a couple of emergency outfits, just in case you end up sleeping over at his place.
It happens more often than not, so you keep the drawer decently stocked at all times.
“You insisted,” Aaron climbs into the bed, reaching for you. He tugs you to him and you roll over onto your side, and then halfway onto your tummy so that your leg drapes over his and your palm rests flat on his chest.
You can hear his heart beating. It’s like a metronome, steady and guiding and calm. You feel his pointed chin nuzzle into your hair and then, his lips, quick yet effective, against your forehead.
Flashes of last night run through your head. You, Emily and JJ, over at Penelope’s apartment. A symphony of girlish giggles, talking about Emily and JJ’s upcoming wedding date, drinking at least three pitchers of mojitos among the four of you. Watching Dirty Dancing and gabbing the entire time, realizing it’d be a bad idea to drive yourself home, and calling Aaron to come get you.
When he arrived, you called him Hotch and apologized for him having to come get you, and he reminded you that he was Aaron and he was your boyfriend and he would pick you up anytime you needed it. You were determined to play the Dirty Dancing soundtrack on the ride home, fumbling with his phone until you found it.
You belted out (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life and demanded Aaron sing along. He admitted that he didn’t know all the words and you gave him a stern lecture until you started laughing so hard that you were in tears. Traffic lights reflected Christmas ornament colors in Aaron’s brown eyes as he drove, occasionally glancing over at you.
You swore you saw the corners of his mouth twitch into a smile as you berated him for not knowing the words to such a classic song.
And then, once you were back at his place, you sat on the edge of the bed and stared at your shoes dumbly until Aaron offered to help you take them off. “Laces too hard,” you mumbled, and Aaron just hummed in agreement before kneeling down to help you.
And then he helped you out of your clothes. He went for your drawer, and you threw a pillow at him. “The college t-shirt,” you demanded with these Bambi-esque eyes.
“Arms up, baby,” Aaron said as he slid his law school t-shirt onto your upper half. He saved that specific term of endearment for times like these, when he was taking care of you, when he himself was exhausted. You could tell he was, too, not only because he kept yawning, but because of that glazed-over look in his chestnut eyes.
You glance down at the words George Washington University, printed over your chest.
Aaron’s arms around you tighten for just a moment as he embraces you, and you dig your face a little further into his chest. “No Jack today?” You ask, your voice coming out croaky.
“At his grandparents’,” Aaron murmurs, and you yawn. He strokes your hair. “How’s your head?”
“I haven’t had any complaints so far.”
Aaron’s hand freezes in your hair, and you lift your head, smirking at him. His mouth has formed a straight line, but you snicker and you can tell he’s trying not to smile at your dirty joke. “Degenerate,” he calls you.
“Prude,” you tease back, inching closer to kiss his jaw briefly before laying your head back down. “It hurts,” you answer his question. “But not as bad as it could.”
“That’s good,” Aaron comments, his hand running through your hair again, gently, the world’s most relaxing and least effective hairbrush. It feels nice, but his hands are so big that his fingers snag on the tangles, accomplishing nothing but making you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Nothing wrong with that, though.
“Do you want some Tylenol for your headache?” Aaron asks, and you just curl up into him even more. He’s so warm, and sturdy, and it’s so rare that you get mornings like this. Either you’re both working or Jack has a soccer game or there’s something else going on. It’s nice just to lay around with him, to be mildly hungover and pretend like that’s the only thing going on in either of your lives.
“That would require getting out of bed,” you protest, and feel Aaron’s arms tighten around you. He’s a very doting boa constrictor.
“How about I get it for you, then?” He offers, and you shake your head and shift all your weight onto him. He chuckles, a deep, throaty noise you know you’re only privy to for about twenty minutes right after he’s woken up. “So that’s a no.”
“That’s a no,” you confirm, settling back in to your original position.
You lay like that with him, in comfortable silence, for a few minutes. Until it feels like you’ve melded into one being. Then Aaron finally shifts under you. “Honey, my arm’s asleep,” he whispers, as though he’s afraid to disturb you.
You slither off of him, then clamber out of bed with no amount of grace, going so far as to trip over the corner post of the bed. As Aaron sits up, you exclaim, “I’m okay!” and hold your hands out to steady yourself.
Aaron stifles a laugh and you watch him stand from the bed and he walks towards you, steadying you when one of those gargantuan hands on your shoulder. He then lifts that hand to tip your chin up. You step forward in a silent dance, wrapping your arms around his neck and standing on your toes to kiss him. “Oh, shit,” you murmur. “I bet I have really awful morning breath.”
He just blinks a few times, and then offers you a shit-eating grim. “Yeah, honey, you kind of do,” he admits. You lightly punch him in the pectoral and then head to the en suite to brush your teeth.

BORDER COLLIE - boothill x reader
- you, boothill, and your daughter spend a nice morning together, allthewhile you and your husband converse about a dog.
- i don't know why i made this i just thought it would be a fun little thing idk lol. i just had to add that little bit of jazz to the end bc like yk... idk anyways i'm trynna set myself on a better posting schedule and i think im starting off strong mmm enjoy
- all fluff, tiny mention of pregnancy at the very end, pre-cyborg boothill, his daughter is still alive here and everything is normal, wc 714
Tumblr media
You were looking out the window, out at the vast amount of farmland you and your husband, Boothill, had decided to buy when he brought home the little girl you’re now able to call your daughter.
It was a nice, big place, suitable for animals of all kinds, and very family-friendly. You were currently watching your daughter play around with a baby goat that her father decided to bring out, a smile on all three of your faces.
She seemed so happy, waddling around the goat, clapping her chubby little hands when the goat gave a soft little lick to her cheek. She had just learned how to walk, and had been able to say a few words for the past few months now.
You walked out the back door, waving at Boothill before he waved his hand as a gesture to have you over by them. While you were walking over, you could hear your daughter shout “Goat! Goat! Cute goat!” While bobbing up and down with her legs and clapping her hands. It made you laugh a little bit before leaning into your husband's side. He wraps an arm around your shoulders, rubbing your arm up and down while supervising your daughter.
“Dada!” She squealed, giggling. Boothill ruffled her hair before leaning down to give her a kiss on her forehead, making her giggle even more. “Dada and mama!”
You smiled wider than you thought you ever could have. You were so blessed to have Boothill as a husband, and such a special, precious girl as a daughter.
“Well, we can’t really bring a goat in th’ house, n’ she seems to enjoy playin’ around with it a bunch…” Boothill said, standing next to you with his arms crossed. “What if we got a dog?”
“Really? A dog?” You looked up at him, and he nodded. “We have horses, goats, sheep, cows, and probably some reptiles living in the bushes. Do we really need more?”
He hummed. “The thing is, dogs can be domestic, hun. I got lucky this lil’ goat is so docile, good enough for her to be able to hang ‘round it without me having to worry ‘bout it taking her face off.”
“True. But we’d need a dog that can handle farmlife, not just any old dog. A boujee dog would not do very well in this type of setting. Keep that in mind.”
He laughed before shaking his head. “Nah. I was thinkin’ more like a Border Collie or somethin’. I’d rather have one that's gonna make use of all this land.”
Your daughter came up to the both of you, lightly slapping at your legs to get your attention. You picked her up, giving Boothill a signal to go put the goat back in its respective area before meeting the two of you back inside.
A few moments later, when Boothill arrived back inside, you had lunch started, greeting him before he washed his hands and helping your daughter wash hers, too. He explained to her that she’s always to wash her hands before and after touching an ‘outside animal’ (as he calls it, so her itty bitty brain can comprehend it) otherwise she could get sick. He does the same, too.
You set the table for lunch, putting some leftover salad and chicken on you and Boothills plates from last night. You gave your daughter some chicken too, but cut into very small squares, and strawberries instead of salad.
The three of you sat down to eat, occasionally conversing about random things. She was too busy picking at her strawberries to notice your conversation, but you both still kept a close eye on her.
“About the dog idea, are you sure?” You asked, your voice laced with some uncertainty. ‘I feel like we already have so much on our plate. Are you really willing to walk it every morning?”
“Well, o’course I am. I know what havin’ a dog is like, my dads always had one. I grew up around ‘em.” He takes another forkful of salad before going on. “But why’re ya so concerned? What else is stoppin’ ya from sayin’ yes?”
You smiled before laughing to yourself, leaving him temporarily confused.
“Well, I want to hold off on the dog, because…
…I’m pregnant.”

winner winner; part 3 of sore loser ⋆ part 2
summary: you play astoundingly better when you know they're watching | content/warning: explicit language, reader being kinda mean, shitty tennis descriptions, light angst but not really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's weeks before you see either one of them again. You'd catch glimpses of Art here and there when moving around campus, but you never made an effort to stop and talk to him. A small part of you was a bit embarrassed about your behavior from that night, not having a clue where the sudden confidence had come from.
But you also had to admit you thought about that night often. There was something very addictive about having two people hanging at your every word, sat at your lap like scolded puppies.
You had never felt anything like the way you had felt that night, with Patrick biting and sucking at your neck while you looked at the painfully sullen expression on Art's face. It's a feeling you only allowed yourself to relish in the dead of the night, when you were all alone with nothing else but your thoughts to occupy you.
You willed those thoughts away for now, cringing at the fact that you were thinking about them now of all times.
✰ ⊹ ˚.
"Did you fuck her?"
Patrick's question caught Art of, even if he had been expecting it eventually. He rolled his eyes at his friend's crass language. "No," Art answered, sinking a bit further into the uncomfortable pavillion seat, "she avoids me like the plague."
"D'you think she regrets what happened that night?" Patrick asked after a short silence. "I dunno," he answered, crossing his arms as he squinted down at the empty clay turf. His back straightened when the announcer's voice boomed across the speakers, shortly after catching a glimpse of you as you emerged onto the turf with the rest of the girls.
You were laughing at something one of your teammates were saying, a smile reminiscent of the one you had gave him that night as you beckoned him closer.
You made your way over to one of the benches, plopping your bag down before you started stretching. Soon Patrick's eyes were glued to you as well, the two of them quietly observing as you got ready for your singles match.
Your eyes briefly scanned over the small crowd as you did a few crossbody stretches. It didn't take you long to notice the two boys sitting third row, their eyes already focused on you. The smiles that gradually stretched across both their faces almost made you burst out in laughter, but you couldn't find it in you to laugh at them, much less even look at them.
You turned your back on them, not sparing them another look or even a greeting as you sighed, physically feeling the tension return to your shoulders.
✰ ⊹ ˚.
You bounced the ball in your hand two, three times, every soft thud as the ball met the turf vibrating throughout your body and up your spine. You looked at your opponent and then briefly up at the crowd, everyone mute in anticipation. Your eyes met theirs again because of course it did.
Neither of them were smiling anymore, practically hunched over in their seats as they waited for your next move.
You just need to get out of your head.
Your serve is strong, and once you hear Farren Troy's sneakers squeek against the clay as she scurries after the ball, it's like a switch is flipped in your head, and the only thing you could see in your peripheral is the ball going back and forth between the two of you.
Patrick and Art's eyes follow you like a hawk, backs now straight as pins and on the edge of their seats as they watch you walk poor Farren Troy like a dog. The last time they had watched you play it was a close, tough game but today's game almost seemed unfair, Farren scurrying around the turf like a headless chicken as you gave her absolute hell.
They were laser focused on every little detail; every grunt and punched out groan-scream that left your mouth as you hit the ball, the way your limbs stretched out to hit the ball just right and ultimately the way that coy smile stretched across your pretty face when the scores were read.
You gave Farren a handshake over the net, thanking her before making your way back to the chair, sitting down with a grunt as the feeling washed over you.
This was why you played– this feeling was unlike anything else. Indescribable and inimitable. It settled deep in your bones and made you lightheaded with pride. No drug could come close, you decided in that moment.
The locker rooms were filled with happy chatter and laughing, boosting your mood even more as you made your way back to your dorm room, your bed the only thing on your mind. On your way, you made a detour to the food court, going to try your luck with their vending machine for a snack or two.
You should've been surprised to find Art there, but you weren't. A part of you, albeit small, hoped he'd be there. You gave him a small smile as you made your way over to the vending machine. To your luck, it jammed, the pack of pretzels taunting you as they hung on the cusp and way out of your reach.
A sudden kick to its side, though, and the packet felt right down and into your grateful grasp. "Thank you," you said begrudgingly as Art leaned his body against the side of the machine, watching as you bent down to grab your snack.
You sighed when you stood at full height, and he still wasn't gone, but against your better judgment, you decided to play along for a little while. "Where's your boyfriend?" you asked, opening the packet and taking two pretzels out. "On a bus to San Francisco," he answered. You pouted playfully. "Ah, that's too bad. I would've liked to catch up," you frowned. "Oh, so I'm only of importance when he's around. Otherwise you ignore me?" he asked.
"I never said that," you argued, placing another pretzel in your mouth, finishing chewing completely before you continued, "It's just more fun when it's both of you."
"I'll see you around," you added before being on your way. "What do I have to do to get your number?" he shouted at your back and you shrugged, before you spoke up. "Practise with me tomorrow."

//
Timing.
You’ve never really understood it. Not to mention the whole invisible string theory and how implausible it seems… How is it that you can coexist with the love of your life for years and not be with them until the time is right?
Isn’t that strange?
Love is all-consuming, inevitable, and perfect, but its greatest weakness is a mere concept: time.
Speaking of time, you’re early.
As you enter the restaurant and greet your friends, you can’t help but check your phone every other minute. Waiting for a text from him, checking the time, and wondering when he’ll arrive… It feels exhausting to be in this state of longing.
How is it that you’ve been friends with him for so long and now you need him more than ever?
To hold you and tell you everything is alright.
To smile at you like you’re his favorite person in the entire world.
To just be with him.
Even if today wasn’t life or death, you felt so helpless. It felt like everything was against you.
Yes, it was just about a stupid presentation (that barely scratches the surface of your future), but it was still a tough thing to get through alone. It was unexpected and filled with minor mistakes, making it feel like a complete defeat.
So much happened.
First, you slept through your alarm.
Though you made it right on time, you didn’t have the extra moments to prepare and run through your presentation like you had originally planned.
Then, since there was no time for prep, you encountered technical difficulties. Your notes were missing for some reason…
And your stuttering!
God, you never stuttered so much in your life.
It was truly an off morning.
… And it doesn’t end there.
Nope!
As you texted Jungkook and updated him, you remembered that you had a rescheduled quiz to take… You know, the one that you completely forgot to review last night because your head was all over this stupid presentation.
The quiz went fine but it could’ve been better.
You know you could’ve done better.
That’s probably what annoys you the most. Everything that occurred today wasn’t up to your standard performance level. Humanizing it is difficult because the truth is simple…
Some days just aren’t good.
Some days you just have to take the L.
Some days you just need to breathe through.
And that’s okay.
Because after all the bad, losing, and catching-your-breath moments—there’s him.
The very thought of him eases you. Talking to him makes you feel like you’re bigger than the bad and the losing. Being with him is as easy as breathing.
“Hey ___,” an unfamiliar voice disrupts your thoughts. You turn your head to see who it is. Beside you, a tall man with a broad build offers you a smile. He has short hair and dimples. Even with just his appearance, he’s charming (you can’t deny that).
Politely, you return it but it’s obvious you’re confused.
“… I’m so sorry,” you feel slightly embarrassed to not remember his name. “You are?”
“Mingyu,” he introduces himself, stepping closer and offering his hand. You take it, shaking it slowly and unsure.
He tries again.
“I’m Jungkook’s friend,” Mingyu explains. “You’re Jungkook’s… Uh?”
“O-oh!” you avoid the question and redirect the conversation. “Are you in his friend group with Jaehyun and them?”
He scoffs. “By ‘them’ you mean those guys?”
Mingyu points to a group of tall guys hovering over the menu display. You count them and can’t help but laugh.
Then, you notice one.
“Is that DK? I think Jungkook introduced me to him when we were walking home a few weeks ago!” From where you are, you wave at DK. DK sees you from the corner of his eye and sends you a smile. He gestures for you to come over. For the second time, you smile politely and feel stuck.
What now?
“What’s Jungkook doing introducing you to DK and not me?” Mingyu chuckles, attempting to lighten the mood.
You purse your lips. “Ohh.. I get it.”
“Get what?”
“You’re cheeky,” you observe. “Yup… You’re definitely friends with Jungkook.”
Mingyu puts his hands up in surrender and then on your shoulders. “Guilty as charged.”
You laugh.
He likes your laugh. It’s soft and attractive—especially when you throw your head slightly back. Intrigued, he invites you to sit with them.
“You know the others, right? Hobi and them?”
“Yeah!” you answer him happily. “Hobi and I are actually pretty close—“
Mingyu’s puppy eyes light up with excitement. “Oh, shit really? So you don’t need to get to know them or anything?”
You blink at him.
“I guess?”
“Great!” Mingyu beams. “Good. Cool... Sit with me! I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
You know it’s all friendly nature.
Mingyu is known for being like this.
Goofy, a little deceptive, but a good guy overall. You have nothing to fear! Especially when he’s friends with Jungkook, right? He wouldn’t think of trying to flirt with you… Right?
What are you to Jungkook again?
Before you know it, Mingyu’s hands find yours. As he laces your fingers together, you feel your chest tighten.
This feels weird.
It feels like betrayal even though you know it’s not. Isn’t it ridiculous to be thinking this way?
You run excuses and options in your head.
Do you pull away and laugh it off? Do you just let him hold your hand and lead you to sit with him and the others? You aren’t sure… But the one thing that is clear is the look of annoyance on Jungkook’s face as he steps into the restaurant and his eyes land on your hands.
“Jungkook!”
As cinematic as it can be, that’s what it is. You shake Mingyu’s grasp off and rush to Jungkook. He’s completely taken aback, stumbling as you crash into him. A small laugh escapes his lips, as he finds your tiny charge at him to be the cutest thing you’ve done thus far. He barely walked in and you’re already in his arms.
Heaven, he thinks to himself.
As he wraps his arms around you, he kisses the top of your head. “Wow, look at you. Are you sure you’re my girl? Not shy anymore? Not avoiding me? I’m so proud of you, mi.”
He smells like him. Like his laundry detergent and his skin after his workout—a little sweaty but so addictive.
Is that weird?
Most importantly… Who cares?
He’s here.
You can breathe him in. You can breathe again.
You groan in embarrassment. Pulling away, you keep yourself close enough to rest your chin on his chest. He lowers his gaze at you, eyes softening as his lips curve into a pout.
“Bad day?”
“Better now,” you hum, hugging him tighter. He laughs and gently tickles your sides. Your laughter increases, causing you to let go of him. He takes your bag from your hands and swings it over his shoulder. His fingers brush against yours as you two walk to join your friends who go ahead and get seated.
“Hey, am I crazy or was Mingyu holding your hand—”
“___!” Mingyu calls for you.
You and Jungkook turn your heads and see him patting a place for you. Without a second thought, Jungkook lifts his hand to wave and you hold onto him tighter. Exchanging looks, he then proceeds to guide you towards his circle of friends and away from the ones you’re familiar with. Passing by Hobi, you give him a look.
A ‘help-me-get-out-of-this,’ look.
Hobi sticks his tongue out at you and mouths, “you’ll be fine, bitch.”
By the time you gather your thoughts, Jungkook has already introduced you to his other group of friends. You completely blank out as they respond and introduce themselves. It’s only for a few seconds and you already had an idea of who they all are anyway.
The campus calls them the 97 liners.
They’re known for being…
Boys.
Decent ones at that, but they’re definitely energetic. Amusing almost all the time, competitive and intimidating when they need to be. Through rumors and observations you’ve made from afar, it made sense to you where Jungkook gets his playfulness from.
He’s…
A lot like them.
He’s definitely himself. It’s interesting.
Mingyu scoots over, making enough room for you and Jungkook. He dabs Jungkook up, greeting him as warmly as he greeted you. The others continue their conversations, asking for your input every so often. You quickly realize how charismatic everyone is, and to be completely honest, it overwhelms you.
But with Jungkook beside you, it doesn’t feel like a bad thing. He squeezes your hand under the table every so often when he notices your gaze wander. It’s like he’s gravity to you.
“Okay, so we already ordered… But we can order again if there’s something specific ___ wants,” Mingyu says, rather bubbly. He clears his throat, reaches over the table, grabs the menu and offers it to you.
“Yah, yah, yah,” Jungkook sends a glare to Mingyu, yanking the menu from him. You turn to look at him and find that he doesn't look amused. His eyes are fixed at his friend. With an intimidating tone, he warns; “Mingyu, stop flexing.”
Mingyu shakes his head, not taking it seriously. Jungkook and him have always had a playful friendship anyways. “I don't know what you're talking about... I’m not flexing. ___, feel it! I swear I’m not flexing right now.”
Jungkook tightens his grip on your hands.
Taking a sip of your water, you take your time to swallow and gather your thoughts.
“Don’t you gym with Jungkook?”
Dumb question.
“I gym more than him,” Mingyu corrects you.
Wow.
Stupid answer.
You can't help it. A laugh escapes your lips. “Is that supposed to impress me?”
Jungkook lets out a hearty chuckle, liking the way you answer. He feels proud of you. He feels like he definitely chose the right girl.
Mingyu smirks, leaning back.
He thinks this is fun.
It is fun.
“Ehhh.. I mean, if you ever let me take you on a date, I’ll show you what it means to be impressed.”
Jungkook’s smile drops.
Yours does too.
You shift closer to Jungkook and avoid Mingyu's eyes.
“H-honestly, I’m not feeling picky tonight. I’m sure whatever you guys ordered will be delicious.”
The rest of the conversation is easygoing as everyone patiently waits for the food to arrive. Mingyu’s attention turns back to his friends, as he takes the hint from your avoidant eyes. To him, it was unserious.
Hopefully, it’s also whatever to you.
As the food arrives and is set on the table, Jungkook exchanges a few side comments and whispers context into your ear. You giggle and feel your heart race when he places his hand on your thigh.
“Jungkook…”
“Hm?”
“Your hand,” you warn.
“What about my hand?”
“It’s on my thigh.”
“I know,” he snickers. “Wish it was somewhere else.”
You gasp and can’t resist hitting his chest. He takes the hit like a man. He knows he deserves it.
On the table is a plate of shrimp. You pick one up with your chopsticks and begin to peel it. As Jungkook eats, you place the freshly peeled shrimp on top of his rice. He smiles at you brightly, his heart close to combusting.
“You didn’t have to—”
Jungkook’s words are cut off as you hear Mingyu whine, “Awh, no fair! Peel me one too, please!”
You nod and answer his request. Taking another shrimp and beginning to peel it, you then finish quickly and place it on top of his rice too.
Mingyu eats it happily.
Meanwhile, Jungkook’s chest tightens. Again, it’s such a minor thing to happen… Yet, it irks him so much. He’s no boy, though. This isn’t a perilla leaf tantrum—no, he was much too mature for that.
This was… Clarity.
In between bites, Mingyu brings up a fascinating topic.
“Why are you looking at her like that?” he blurts. Jungkook hadn’t even noticed he was looking at you a certain way. What was it? Was it too revealing of his feelings?
Wait… What even is he feeling?
There’s a sense of jealousy and frustration wrapped around the core of it all; his liking of you.
“I’m not looking at her in any way,” Jungkook responds, taking a sip of water. You continue to chew and look away.
“You totally are,” Mingyu laughs. “Hey, is it because you used to like her?”
Jungkook doesn’t miss a beat. “Where did you hear that?”
“Ohh.. So it’s not true, then?”
“Nah,” Jungkook scoffs. “I just don’t get why it’s a rumor and why it’s in the past tense. It’s true… I like her. She knows it too—wait, you fuck… Do you even read the group chat? I talk about her all the fucking time.”
Mingyu’s eyes light up.
“Oh my god!” he gasps, piecing everything together. “Shit, right. I remember now. God, why’d that take me so long to connect? Of course! This is ___. The ___! Ice skating bullshit, right? Pocky kiss or whatever?”
Your eyes widen as you turn to Jungkook. “You told them?”
Jungkook smiles innocently.
“I have the best kiss of my life and you expect me not to tell my boys?”
He has you there.
Mingyu laughs, murmuring about how down bad Jungkook is. When you feel your cheeks heat up, you quickly bury your face into your hands. You feel so embarrassed… But at the same time flattered.
It’s awful.
To make matters worse, the butterflies keep fluttering as Jungkook tilts his head and smirks at you. He finds your shyness the most precious thing in this entire world. The mere fact that he makes you feel and act like this?
Oh, it’s remarkable.
Jungkook can't help but compare your behavior from earlier to now. How you took initiative and ran into his arms as if they were your safe haven—and now there's this.
You like this, right now.
So utterly his without him much being done or said. It's an understanding. It's simply how it is.
He chuckles, as he wraps his arms around you and squeezes you into a tight hug.
“Ahh... You totally folded."
With his words, your eyes widen. You push him away and roll your eyes at him. He teases you, mocking the way you cling onto his body.
You huff but let him hold onto you. From here on out, you two keep it casual and continue your conversations with everyone. He piles food onto your plate and in exchange you bring the food to his mouth.
Jungkook eats happily.
Tumblr media
When the dinner is over, everyone goes their separate ways.
Jungkook’s friends all hug you goodbye (Mingyu takes his sweet time) and leave him to walk you home. Hand in hand, you two wave goodbye and earn a few winks from Hobi. To that, you roll your eyes and brush it off.
The walk with Jungkook is nice.
The conversation between you two is so natural and good. You talk about the presentation mess up in more detail and he listens well. He empathizes with your feelings and understands. He’s so easy to talk to. He gets you. He makes you laugh even when what he’s saying isn’t funny.
Is this how it’s like when you have feelings for someone?
How embarrassing.
When you two reach your front door, he looks at you longingly.
“Feel better?” he asks you. You notice how gentle is tone is. How thoughtful.
“… About everything? The presentation and shit… Bebu, at the end of the day you did what you could. The grade your received is literally still an A—w-what”
Jungkook is startled.
You grasp the fabric of his hoodie and pull him close. Without a second thought, you take a step closer to him and lean in. With urgency, you kiss him.
Deep.
Needy.
Lovingly.
His eyes flutter shut as you deepen the kiss with your tongue. He gives you way, parting his mouth open for you to explore and do as you please. As he kisses you back with the same kind of energy, you smile into the kiss.
When you pull away, Jungkook is in disbelief.
“... Now what?”
You clear your throat, feeling your lips tingling from the kiss.
“S-sorry,” you gulp. “I d-don’t know what came over me… I just—”
“Why are you apologizing?” he blinks at you slowly. “I didn’t ask for an apology. I asked, now what?”
You tighten your lips.
“Now? I… I just need some air.”
Jungkook nods his head, eyebrows furrowed together. He understands you.
Before you can open your mouth to defend or redirect, he beats you to it.
“Yeah? Me too.”
Before you know it, he kisses you.
Jungkook kisses you like a silent plea. Even though he has already confessed; this felt like another.
The way he kisses you feels like a new language. He knows just when you kiss you more and when you to be delicate. He cups your jaw with the palm of his hand, tilting your head so he can kiss you better.
Which is so fucking weird… But it happens like never before.
He kisses you better.
Breaking away from the kiss, you two catch your breaths. As you do so, you clear your throat.
“Wanna come inside?” you ask, taking his hand.
He smirks, unable to stop himself.
“Sure… But I’m gonna need some clarification on that offer… Come inside where?”
Tumblr media
In your dimly lit kitchen, you two make yourselves a cup of tea.
Jungkook multitasks by making passes—saying that the water is still cold since you’re hotter than it. He sneaks in a few kisses on your cheeks as you tell him he’s being stupid. You two laugh as he lifts you up to sit on your kitchen island. He makes himself comfortable in between your legs.
There, you caress his hair.
He is so handsome. You love the way his nose just fits his face… How round his eyes are and even the scar on his cheek. It’s so precious.
He’s perfect, you think to yourself.
As you get lost in your thoughts, Jungkook feels so much comfort and freedom with your touch. It feels like rest. For a moment, he shuts his eyes and takes in how much he loves your touch.
Breaking the silence, you tug on his hair. “You need a haircut.”
He shakes his head, eyes still closed.
“Literally got one two weeks ago.”
“Yeah,” you realize he’s right. He did cut his hair two weeks ago. He came over that night just to show it off. “... But I liked Mingyu’s hair! It was so short. I feel like it would suit you too.”
He opens one eye and gives you a weird look.
You mimic it.
“What?”
Jungkook lifts his face.
“So… Was it just me but I definitely caught Mingyu trying to shoot his shot with you, right?” He snickers, tilting his head as he recalls what he saw. "He literally asked you out."
You shrug, explaining Mingyu's attempt to hold your hand as a friendly gesture. "He’s just friendly, right? He also tried to hold my hand to lead me to the table and that was kinda… Unexpected? But he’s like that, right? He’s just friendly. Like a puppy! Golden retriever energy.”
"Maybe," Jungkook responds, his tone betraying a hint of uncertainty. "Y-yeah. I mean, the shrimp thing was worse."
You laugh softly. "What? This is about the shrimp thing? I peeled it for you too… And it’s not like I peeled his because I wanted to. He asked. It was lighthearted."
"I know that," he reassures you, his tone softening. "I’m not that insecure to pick a fight over peeling shrimp. You don’t have to convince me it was nothing. I know it was nothing.”
Confusion flashes across your face at his mixed signals. "Are you upset?"
"Maybe," he admits quietly.
Then he hesitates.
“Actually, I think I’m frustrated. I’m not mad. Sorry if I sounded aggressive—"
"N-no, it’s fine," you reassure him, gently cutting him off. "Why are you frustrated, bebu?"
Jungkook offers you a weak smile. "I don’t get it…"
"Get what?"
"All this shit and we’re still not together.”
Your brows furrow slightly in confusion.
Taken aback, you ask him, “what’s that supposed to mean?"
Gesturing between the two of you, Jungkook expresses his confusion. "This… I mean, what is this? We’re together, aren’t we?"
"Jungkook—"
"I’m just… I don’t get it. Even if you thought he was just being friendly, why didn’t you just say you were my girlfriend? Mingyu would’ve stopped flirting with you."
"So it’s my fault?" you huff, feeling offended at the pitch of this idea. "I thought your friends knew—"
"Well… Yes. I talk about you, and it’s not like I’m ditching parties to study in that stupid library—"
"Can you leave the library out of this?"
"Okay," he sighs, relenting. "Sorry… I just… They know how I feel about you. I guess they don’t know how you feel about me, and… I mean, did you tell him we were together or not? Because if I had to remind him who you were to me, I don’t think you told him that we—"
"Jungkook—"
"No, I’m being serious," he interrupts, his tone becoming more stern. "Why didn’t you just—"
"You never asked me out!" you interject, frustration evident in your voice.
Jungkook stares at you blankly, prompting you to continue. He runs everything back in his mind.
You were right.
With all these moments, he’s been so busy planning how to get reactions out of you and completely missed out on so many perfect opportunities.
“You never asked me to be your girlfriend. All you’ve been doing this entire time is trying to get me to flirt with you, kiss you, or trick me into dates… You want me to act like your girlfriend? Ask me to be. I’m not built for situationships… And honestly? I’ve been waiting—patiently and elegantly at that. There were so many times where I wanted to hold your hand and give in. You talk about how you’ll get me to fold or whatever—fine.”
You take a breath, caving in. “This is it. I’ve folded! God, do you even know how hard it is to study next to you in that stupid library because y-you… You give me butterflies.”
Jungkook reaches for you. You let him touch you but your heart stays still, fighting to get these feelings out. Your voice wavers with emotion.
“A-and it’s so… I don’t know how you do it. At some point, I set them free. Like, fine, okay! Fly high, my butterflies… But for what?"
There’s a sense of urgency that awakens in you. Never in your life have you ever felt the same way for anyone.
It feels like defeat and victory all at once.
It feels like peace and war all at once.
It feels like love.
Oh, the madness.
To love someone this wide and deep… To love someone at all. It is everything beyond you. How it radiates through your body and onto his lips… How everything unfolds and reveals him no matter what.
You can’t decide if the way you’ve fallen is utterly heartbreaking or romantic. Maybe it’s both.
Let’s say it’s both.
All you know is that with glossy eyes and a fragmented understanding of timing, you tell him;
“Jungkook, I set my butterflies free, and they flew to you."

iii. "im not a princess, this aint a fairytale"
Tumblr media
Pairing: older brother's best friend!Sam x fem!reader
Summary: Older brother’s best friend!Sam Monroe who was the first to break your heart when you were 14 and he was 16.
Warnings: None!
Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
You were ecstatic when you entered high school, there were more opportunities for you to see Sam instead of only seeing him when he came over. The night before your first day you imagined all the ways you could possibly see him; in the hallways, having lunch together, maybe and hopefully just one class together.
And your first semester didn’t disappoint. The first few weeks were equally nerve-wracking and exciting. As you were entering a brand new, bigger school, you didn’t know where your classes were. And you got lost often, getting swept away by the larger crows in the narrow halls into some part of the school you had never been in. But Sam was somehow always there to save you by grabbing your heavy textbooks in one hand, your hand in the other and quickly leading you to your class.
“I know it’s hard, but you have to push your way through these assholes. Especially the ones who stand right in the middle of the fucking hall.” And he gestured to the group who were indeed standing in the middle of the hall and walked right through them, taking you with him. You apologized to the girl you shouldered.
“Sam, we could’ve just gone around them!”
“Yeah, we could’ve. But what do they expect standing there?:
“I don’t think it’s that serious.”
“Yes it is, now's the time to learn how to put your foot down or they’ll walk all over you.”
Or when he helped you learn how to open your locker because you just couldn’t get it, “It’s clockwise, then counterclockwise but skip the second number, then go directly to the last number clockwise.”
Maybe the lockers were just old, but you remember the time when he was sure he got the combination right but it just wouldn’t open. And he kept trying, whispering “fuck you, fuck you.”
“Sam, my class is about to start, hurry!” You were only half serious, the other part of you couldn’t help but find his frustration and growing panic funny. You covered your laugh with your hand as he looked at you with wide eyes, “it’s not fucking opening.”
You burst out laughing when he finally got it open because it took him aggressively pulling at the lock and a fall to the ground.
And you loved walking to your third hour because the two of you would cross paths, and not a day would go by where he wouldn’t say hi with a small wave, and a gentle ruffle to your hair if he was close enough. You felt special because out of all the people and his own friends he’d see, you were the one he’d acknowledge.
But your favorite times together was when he would walk you home and carry your extremely heavy backpack for you. It was the best way to end the school day, the two of you recapping your days. How hard a test was, what you had for lunch, how annoying a particular teacher was, and any other anecdotes. You thought whatever the two of you were would only grow.
-
You weren’t exactly when it began happening, all you knew was that the boy you once got all starry eyed about was turning into the ones you didn’t like.
Maybe it was when he got into the wrong crowd, the ones who always stunk of smoke and ditched school. You found it strange when you saw him being friendly with a few of them since he was always the one who turned you away from them, “Promise me you won’t end up like one of those morons, (y/n). That stuff is too fucking vile for you.”
Or when he slowly stopped walking you home to go hang out with them. It made you sad but you understood that he couldn’t dedicate all of his time after school to you. He had his own friends and hobbies. But were you right to be concerned when you noticed he started cutting classes and skipping school to be with said friends? You caught him one time, trying to sneak away and he seemed surprised to see you had seen him.
“Hey, (y/n).”
“Hi, Sam. Where are you going?” You asked softly, not wanting to anger him. He just seemed so angry and jumpy these days.
“We’re just… gonna get an early lunch,” He could tell you didn’t really believe him when all you gave was a small, tight lipped smile and single head nod, he came closer and dipped his head down as he whispered “I’ll be back, I promise. And I’ll get you something if you keep quiet, okay?”
You felt like you didn’t have a choice, you obviously weren’t going to say no and force him to stay. And the bribe just didn’t seem right, it gave you a strange feeling in your gut.
“No, that’s okay. I, um, I really have to get to class.” And you left with a small smile and quick turn, wanting the entire interaction to be over. It was weird to see him this way, and it left a weight on your shoulders to just let him go. Should you have at least tried to stop him? You looked out the window and were even more upset to see your brother with that group as well. Maybe it was seeing both of them this way, but you had the sudden urge to cry.
Sam did end up getting you a large Dr. Pepper, but you just couldn’t will yourself to drink it and you threw it away.
With each passing day he was getting further and further away from you, but you continued to push through it, hoping that the boy who taught you how to ride a bike and saved your winter dance night was still in there. He had to be.
So you kept trying to talk to him. Which included helping him cut classes, reminding him of tests, telling him about your day. And maybe you were doing too much, and maybe you were embarrassing him in front of his cool friends. And maybe you should’ve expected such a response.
“Jesus, you are so fucking annoying. Don’t you have any of your own friends?”
That one hurt the most. It wasn’t just the fact that he knew you weren’t the most sociable girl. In fact, it was hard for you to talk to others and to keep a conversation going. So the answer was no.
It was also the angry look he gave you. The furrowed brows, clenched jaw, and the eye roll he gave when you didn’t answer. You’d never seen him this way. It was always playful smiles and soft words. The closest you had seen him this angry was when you didn’t bother to look both ways before crossing the street and you almost got run over, “you could’ve gotten killed, I shouldn’t have to tell you to look both ways when crossing a street.”
But that was tough love if anything, and he hugged you right after to calm you down because you were pretty shaken up and close to tears, “alright, that’s enough, you’re fine.”
You stood there in front of him, eyes wide and chest rising and falling rapidly, willing yourself to stay collected and calm while it felt like your whole world was crumbling in front of you.
“Just… stay the hell away from me.” And he left.
The rest of the day was a blur since Sam’s words left you dejected and shattered. You weren’t focused in your classes and didn’t pay any mind to what the people around you said. It was a constant replay of what he said to you and a constant fight to keep your emotions in. Who were you supposed to turn to for this?
You cried the entire night. You thought you were only being helpful, and to know that he actually saw you as a burden made you panic. For every little problem you had, you did end up going to him for help. For every stupid, little story you had, you ended up telling him. And when you felt lonely, you ended up going to him. But you couldn’t help it. Sam always seemed so happy to fix whatever issue it was you were having, and he looked like he was deeply interested in your trivial tales, and he was just so fun to be around. He was funny and kind and gentle and where is he now?
Or did he always feel that way and put up a good front? No, it couldn’t be that, it was too genuine. Did you happen to read too much into his actions? Possibly. Then you thought if the roles were reversed, kind of. If there was a younger girl in your life you certainly wouldn’t treat her meanly. You would always have a helping hand extended out just in case she needed it. Like a big sister.
These thoughts and questions swirled in your mind until you came to the conclusion that you were just a young girl very in love with the older boy who only saw you as his best friend's young sister. And that he was done entertaining her and moving with his own crowd.
It was this that finally opened your eyes and made you go to sleep. It was your turn now to grow up and move on.

“Right there?” You lean down to murmur in his ear. “Does that feel good?”
“Fuck… right there, sweetheart...” John groans.
You giggle from your seat on John’s backside, knees on either side of his hips as you massage his lower back. He had been complaining about how bad it has been aching and swore only your hands could fix him.
You lean down and press a few kisses to his shoulder before going back to working out the tension in his muscles.
John sighs in content.
“Y’know, I had the worst dream last night.” You mention casually, placing your hands palm down on his waist and rubbing circles with your thumbs.
“Did you?” John’s voice was a bit muffled by the pillow his face was resting against. “What was it about?”
"I met this really, really beautiful man at the bar, got him to take me home, really got to like him… and then he went back to London I never saw him again." You sigh dramatically.
It takes John a moment to realize that you're joking, catching on at the exaggerated sigh. He tries not to laugh but he's only human.
John shifts to lay on his back now, but pulls you back to him so you can still sit on top, straddling his lap.
“Sounds like a nightmare.” John grins, his hands slowly rubbing up and down your bare thighs. “Suppose we can't repeat that mistake then?"
You shake your head, a smile on your lips as you look down at him. John shakes his head back at you, that signature smirk still on his face.
"Is it crazy that I think I actually really like you?" Your brow furrows a bit. “We’ve only known each other for a few days…”
He lets out a little laugh; you can see him blush a little bit in his cheeks.
"'s not crazy," He says softly, his hands now moving from your thighs to your waist, slipping under his shirt that you were wearing. “I like you.”
"Hmm… But you're a military guy.” Your head tilts to the side in thought. “Aren't military guys, like, known for proposing after the first date?"
This actually makes him laugh out loud again, his eyes crinkling in the corners. He can't help himself; this stereotype has always been such a common one.
"Right, but I'm not that kind of military guy.... l'd at least wait until the second date."
"Well," you move off of John to lay on your back next to him on your bed. "When the time comes, I don't want one of those big, ugly silver and diamond rings. Maybe a pearl or a garnet or something." You lift your left hand up in the air above you both, as if imagining the ring on it.
John continues to smile as you talk about the potential future. The idea that you're thinking about that kind of stuff when you've only just met seems funny to him, but almost… romantic, in a way.
When you lift your hand, he can't help but imagine how that ring would look on it. He can see the ring so clearly in his mind's eye; simple 14 karat gold band, emerald cut garnet in the middle.
You lower your arm back to your side and turn to look at him. "I really do think I like you." You sigh like it’s disappointing. "This isn't normally how my random bar hookups go."
“Y’ haven’t been hookin’ up with the right guys.” John counters.
You study his face, taking in all the little details; those blue eyes you love, the little freckle on his nose, the two tiny marks above and below his eyebrow that made you wonder if teenage John was a little punk with an eyebrow piercing.
You sit up suddenly and get off of your bed. You strip John’s shirt off of yourself and toss it to him. “You should go.”
John is understandably confused. He sits up, shirt in hand, waiting for an explanation. “Did I do something wrong..?”
“No,” You shake your head, looking through your closet. “You’re going to go get dressed, buy me some flowers, and take me on our first date.”
John doesn’t speak. He’s stunned.
You look over your shoulder at him. “What? If I want that second-date proposal, we need the first date out of the way.”
John’s eyebrows raise. You’re fucking crazy…
You’re fucking made for him.
“Oh, and don’t get tulips.” You add casually, pulling a little sundress out of the closet and looking it over. “I hate tulips.”
“Yes ma’am.” John nods, pulling his shirt on over his head.
You grin. “So obedient. Must be the military training.”

The next weekend in the paddock felt a little different. There was a rumour circulating on social media that one of the drivers had a hidden child. Obviously, you and Oscar had caught on to the rumour.
The rumour was about yourself and Oscar, except it wasn’t true. Logan was yet to catch onto the rumour and was in a mood with yourself and Oscar, having not seen you yet to ask about it.
It was just a media day today, and Oscar was going to the drivers press conference today so he could clear any rumours up on that side. As for Logan in between meetings, you went to find him.
Finding him moping in his drivers room, you sat on the massage table looking at him
“Came to tell me something?” He asked, causing you to laugh
“Logan. You were at our house last week. Like not our hotel room, our actual house, where did you see the signs that we have kids?” You asked, causing him to frown in thought
“I didn’t?” He questioned
“Exactly. Someone obviously caught Oscar and I talking about you” You smiled moving to sit next to him
“About me?” He asked, causing you to nod
“We had been trying to get Lando to catch on that we were together for ages, so we resorted to calling you our son, jokingly at first until we realised that you basically are like our son. Even if you’re older than him you’re still our kid” You rubbed his back, and he nodded
“Now I heard you’ve got interviews to do” You smiled, and he groaned
“Come on. I’ll come with you” Logan got up, walking out the room as you followed behind him. In the main garage, Emma explained the plan to Oscar as you spoke to Elias about Logan.
Being new to training Logan, Elias was struggling to reach him and understand certain things about him that Benny used to understand because they’d been working together for the past seven years. Luckily for Elias, you were willing to help him understand Logan, and Mclaren didn’t really care knowing your strong bond with him.
Tumblr media
That night, there was a grid dinner where all the drivers were meeting for dinner. Looking at the outfit you had on in the mirror deciding if that’s what you actually wanted to wear to the dinner. Oscar’s hands slid around your waist as you looked at him, though the mirror
“What do you think? The dress just doesn’t feel like me, but I didn’t really pack anything else except Mclaren uniforms and work out clothes” You asked, resting your head against his shoulder
“I think it looks beautiful, love. No matter what you wear, you look beautiful, especially when you’re not wearing anything” He smirked, pressing kisses to your neck.
“I’ll just put my shoes on and finish up then. I won’t be long” You smiled, turning in his arms so you were now facing him. Snaking your arms around his neck to pull him down so you could kiss him. Pressing your lips against his as he smiled into the kiss.
“What do you think about having kids?” Oscar asked as you fixed your jewellery
“I mean I’ve always wanted kids, but you know that” You frowned, looking at him through the mirror
“Yeah I know. I just wanted to ask your opinion. I’ve got a contract with Mclaren for at least another two years. We've been married for a little while now. Obviously not very long, but we’ve been friends since kids” He explained
“You think it’s the perfect time to have a kid don’t you?” You asked, turning to face him. Oscar nodded, looking down at the ground
“Look if you’re not ready just now or you don’t want to, then that’s okay. I was just thinking. The rumour really made me start thinking” He sighed, and you took a couple of steps to reach him. Taking his hands in your own hands with a smile.
“Osc. I think it’s a perfect time. Working nine months from now would be winter break. I think we should” You smiled, and he looked up at you
“Really? Do you want to do it just now?” He asked, and you nodded
“I very much do. I think we should start tonight” You hummed with a smirk as you kissed him
“Don’t have to tell me twice” He hummed, picking you up as he walked out of the bathroom. Your giggles filled the room as he kissed your neck
Tumblr media
An hour later sat around the table with the rest of the grid and their plus ones or more depending if their kids were there in some circumstances. Oscar sat to your right with his hand resting on your thigh as Logan was sat on your left, sitting in a booth meant you were squashed in between them.
Logan was playing with the fingers on your hand, obviously feeling very awkward with the conversation he was involved in. Looking at Oscar glancing at Logan's hand, Oscar caught on. Reaching behind your back and pressing a hand on to Logan’s shoulder
Logan turned to you both with a smile before looking down at his hand
“Oh shoot. Y/N I’m sorry” He dropped your hand, and you smiled softly
“Logan, it's okay. We just wanted to make sure you’re okay” you whispered, and he nodded
“I’m okay. I guess I just needed my hands to do something” He shrugged, and you nodded, holding your hand out for him again. Oscar smiled, joining in a conversation with Lando and Charles.
“So how come you didn’t announce the relationship?” Lando asked, and you turned your head to see him
“Don’t need to announce it. We never hid it” Oscar shrugged
“We announced it to Zak and Andrea, though. Oh, and had to fill out the HR forms” You shrugged
“Next thing you’ll be announcing that you’re expecting” Charles joked, and you glanced at Oscar with a small laugh
“Don’t tell me you are!” Lando exclaimed, catching Logan’s attention
“What? After our conversation this morning?” He asked, and you shook your head
“Logs. You’d be the first to know if we were expecting after our conversation this morning. Actually, I have a feeling I wouldn’t even need to announce it to you” You joked
“We’re not pregnant Logan” Oscar chuckled as you rested your head on Logan’s shoulder. Logan went back to his conversation with Lily and Alex while Oscar went back into his conversation with Lando and Charles as you spoke with Alexandra about her studies.
When the food arrived, the long table settled into quiet conversations normally with the person next to them. However, there were a few conversations going down the table
“I heard you got a puppy” You smiled, turning to Charles and Alexandra
“Oh he’s just the cutest” Kika joined in with a smile
“Yeah he is pretty cute” Charles nodded
“So, Y/N, Oscar, got anything or anyone you need to share with us?” Charles asked, and you shook your head along with Oscar.
“The rumour of us having a child is very much a rumour kinda” You shrugged as Lando’s head whipped around
“Kinda?” Lando questioned
“We’ve got a grid kid” You shrugged
“Two” Oscar corrected, and now Logan’s head whipped around
“Two?” He questioned
“You and Ollie” you shrugged
“Ollie? Bearman?” Lando quizzed, causing you and Oscar to nod.
Tumblr media
When you got back to the hotel that night, everything was a little different. As normal, Logan had joined the two of you now sitting on the hotel room couch as he scrolled on his phone.
Sat on the edge of the bed between Oscar’s legs, your head resting against his shoulder as you had a silent debate with him.
“Hey Logs” You looked over at him as Oscar’s arms wrapped around your body. Logan looked over to you both with a smile
“What’s up?” He asked, putting his phone down
“So Oscar and I were talking before dinner, and we wanted you to know this beforehand obviously being our son” Oscar and Logan both laughed at the end of it.
“This isn’t something you typically share with people, but we felt you should probably know” Oscar added, and Logan got up with a frown
“What?” He questioned, sitting next to you both
“We’re thinking about having a baby” You explained, and he nodded
“That’s great. Can I be godfather and uncle?” He asked, and you laughed
“I’m sure we can make that happen if we end up having a child” You smiled, giving him a hug

Slime HRT Day 1: First Pages
I was told I should write down my experiences in this journal. I'm only really doing this because I was told I didn't have to share my writings with anyone except for emergencies, whatever that means. Today is the first day of my new life, and becoming something not human anymore.
I've seen a lot of social media about species HRT. I think it’s supposed to be “Human Removal Therapy”. There’s a lot of people online bashing it, and I'm sure someone is going to try and ban it eventually, but for right now it's pretty unrestricted. To be honest, I am fascinated by it. Becoming something inhuman seemed so, I don't know, cool I guess, but it felt distant, like it would never happen to me, or I'd be labeled a freak by my friends. It was only until my girlfriend brought it up in a passing conversation that I gained the courage to admit I was curious about it. She said I should go for it. The amount of joy I felt then and there was like a 20 ton weight had just exploded out of my chest, but in a good way! We spent the rest of the night talking about treatments and articles, I never felt so happy except then and there, to be seen like that.
My legs were shaking when I met with that doctor. I was told it was normal to be nervous, but it really felt like I was going to just have a breakdown the entire time we talked. There was a lot of psychological exams and way, WAY too much paperwork that basically said I was sure I would be happy and cool with going through with this process. The doctor was patient at least, though he was rude with how little he tried to hide the boredom of his job. Besides that, there was something about him that just made him feel like this was the last thing he wanted to do, the kind of man who’s a total pushover. We eventually got to the question I was dreading “what was I here for, what am I looking to be?” My voice just suddenly stop working right there. It's so funny how I saw an actual dragon on my way here and somehow my request seemed so much more ridiculous. That stupid doctor kept prying me to just tell him until my frustration surpassed my anxiety, and I was able to blurt out that I wanted to be a slime.
I don't know when or why, but I've always liked the idea of slimes. It's their fluidity I think. Being able to morph myself the way I want whenever I want. I mean, how can I trust I'll be happy with my body shape everyday when I can't even pick a favorite color. I spent so much time writing out my own ideas of how their biology worked, or creating a bunch of slime girls for stories I never finished writing. It took me a while to realize I wanted to be just like them, like how it took me a while to realize I wanted to be a girl too.
I thought I'd get laughed out of his office, I mean I've seen the photos and stories of people on slime HRT but it just felt different, like I was going one step too far, I was probably just super anxious, I felt so relieved when he just showed me a list of slime variants instead of laughing. There were so many different options on the list, slimes made of just gel, sap, wax, and there were so many different colors, but that was the problem, they all felt right, I wanted to be any of them.
It was so selfish to ask, but I needed to know if a slime that could change color was possible, or something that could truly transform into any kind of slime. He asked what I meant, if I was looking into becoming a shapeshifter. I shook my head no and said I wanted something like a chameleon. He took off his glasses and pinched his nose, like the weight of every request he ever had just hit him. We, kind of, argued for a while. Well it was him telling me all the different reasons it wouldn’t work or how some people had set up safe LED strips to become a slime strobe globe of different colors, but for some reason it was the one thing I didn’t want to budge on. The one thing I was certain I wanted was that I wouldn’t be certain about my final choice. I was actually ready to just punch this old man until he suddenly folded to my demands and told me he'd need time to make a new variant for something like that. Something about a membrane and chromatophores I think. He also stated, bluntly, that I still needed to pick the type of slime. Being able to switch from red to blue is one thing but there needs to be a base.
There were a lot of good options, to the point it took me an hour to go through everything and just think about it. I was probably pushing him a bit too close to his next appointment with how long I was searching through options. It certainly makes me wonder how anyone can just know the answer right away. Eventually I had to settle on one and chose the soap variant. I was told it wasn’t actual soap, but it smelled nice and helped deal with germs. I’m not a germaphobe but I like the idea of smelling nice all the time.
After that, I was told I would be contacted eventually when my medication was ready. The wait could be best be described as brutal. There were a lot of calls I made only for me to be told it wasn’t ready yet. I thought I got scammed, like I went to the wrong place and that quack doctor was just faking everything and I wouldn't ever get to be the real me. The most I got was a message once a month saying the research was going well, if I was lucky.
It was about a year when I got a call back from him, explaining that my medication was ready. I'll be honest, I thought he wouldn't have ever completed it and just stole $600 out of my bank account for a single appointment. I have it now though, a bottle of gel capsules. They taste awful, like shoving soap into my mouth, which makes sense thinking about it. Apparently I won't need to take my normal hormone medication after a bit. Which is good because it's really expensive to pay for both. I guess that concludes my thoughts on the first day. The doc wants me to keep writing down my physical changes but also that I write down my emotional state as well. I don't really get why that’s so important, but whatever, it’s the least I can do if I finally get to be the slime girl I always wanted to be. I can't wait to see how I turn out.

Thank you for reading through this story. While I’m sure it’s obvious, this is a story inspired by @ayviedoesthings own Dragon HRT as well as @welldrawnfish Fish HRT. I’ve loved these stories ever since they first came out. But I never felt like I had a story of my own to write until I read @sandyca5tle own slime HRT. Please check out all these people’s stories if you haven’t already, and thank you to sandyca5tle for really lighting the fire in me that made me want to try my hand at this sort of thing. I have plans to continue this for a while, not sure how long it’ll be but I want to be able to write a new segment at least one post every one to two weeks. I hope you enjoyed this, and please let me know if you have any advice on how to improve my writing. Thank you so much for reading all this, seriously, it means the world to me.

Tumblr media
"I thought the party would never end." You let out a long, heartfelt, sigh of relief. You wanted to crash on the couch and enjoy some downtime after this hectic day, but you knew that you would fall asleep the second your body would get in contact with something comfortable.
"How many times did we try to excuse ourselves? I lost count after like twelve." Jake gave you a hand to lean on while you removed your shoes. The cold floors relaxed your sore feet. "Thought we'd be stuck in there forever."
"It's your third time hosting, shouldn't you be used to it?"
"Eh, maybe... I think I'm just too old for that." You both laughed.
You were too tired to point out all of the things he was most definitely not too old to do. That list would have made partying and cracking jokes left and right look pretty easy in comparison.
Jake made his way to the kitchen to get a glass of water, you stole a few sips from it. The two of you exchanged a knowing look, an agreement to discuss the events of Saturday Night Live at a different time, when neither of you would be exhausted and all talked out.
Instead, you walked towards Jake and hugged him from behind. You turned your head to look out the window and enjoy the sunrise while he slowly swayed from side to side.
"Hey," you hummed, letting him know he caught your attention. "Thank you for being there this week."
You helped as much as you could so that he could focus on the week-long preparation. You even got to rehearse one of the promotional videos with him in his dressing room. Your arms tightened around his body, a silent way to tell him you had just as much fun as he did.
After a while, and several contagious yawns, Jake turned in your arms to face you. You both adjusted your positions so that his hands landed on your back while you wrapped your arms around his neck. This kitchen slow dance lasted a little longer, until Jake decided to end it by kissing your forehead, your nose and, finally, your lips.
A kiss that quickly deepened, both of you happily melting in this loving embrace after several hours that deprived you of some quiet quality time.
Jake's tongue teased your lips, craving more. Soon enough, what started as a sweet peck on the lips turned into passionate making out that pulled whimpers and moans out of the two of you. Once again, Jake took the initiative to break the kiss and rested his forehead against you. "Missed you so much, babe."
"I missed you too." You answered, sharing a breath. You trailed kisses from the corner of his mouth to his cheek all the way to his earlobe that you nibbled on.
"I can see that." A smirk started to spread on his thin lips, he let out soft noises that encouraged you to keep going.
He did not even stop you when you kissed along his defined jawline. Even more surprising, he let you move down to his neck that you covered with open mouthed kisses. You suddenly stopped everything you were doing.
"What's wrong?" Concerned, Jake pulled back with a frown on his face. "Are you okay?"
"I'm more than okay." You nodded and smiled, hoping it was enough to reassure him. If not, your next questions would lighten the mood again. "When do you have to work again?"
He tilted his head, confused. "In a long time." Jake squinted and switched between looking into your eyes and glancing down at your lips that you were biting on. He started to catch your drift, his worries faded as quick as they appeared.
"How long?"
"Long enough."
Without losing any more time, your lips were all over his neck. You switched from side to side, giving more attention to his bopping Adam's apple while you kissed every inch of skin that you could reach. You focused on a specific spot, your lips moulding around his bulging jugular vein. You started to suck on it.
Jake moaned and loud. So often, too often, you were forbidden from leaving marks on visible parts of his body. That still left you with quite the canvas to paint. The problem was that, with a neck as delicious looking as Jake's, it became next to impossible at times to leave it untouched.
You detached your mouth from his skin and admired your work, a dark red mark already bloomed. It was beautiful, but you wanted more.
Jake's head lolled to the back, giving you access to what you so desperately needed.
You had one hand on the other side of his neck, holding him in place while you added more hickeys on his skin Your other hand travelled underneath the layers of clothes. Your fingertips gently brushed over his warm stomach before you scratched the surface with your nails.
"Thought you were tired?" Jake interrupted your moment.
"Yeah, well..." The hand that was on his stomach fell further down and squeezed the hardening bulge in his pants. "I thought you were tired too." You replied with an arched brow.
Jake's lips met yours in another heated kiss. His hands groped mainly your your ass and whatever part of your body he could reach to press you closer against his own.
This makeout session, between his mouth and his neck, lasted until the kitchen was invaded with morning light. "Wanna take this to the bedroom?" You offered in between kisses that left you panting.
"I'd rather take a quick shower first." Another kiss that he ended by biting and pulling on your bottom lip. "You're joining me." It was not an invitation, he knew you would not decline it anyway.
You led the two of you towards the bathroom, not without stumbling on walls and furniture on the way. You kept begging Jake for just "one more, one more mark and then I'm done, I swear just a small one" and he did not even try to stop you.
You lost no time and hurried to undress your man, once you made it into the bathroom and found the light switch after laughing in the dark while hitting every possible spots on the wall. You pressed him against the counter of the vanity, pulling his pants just low enough to take his cock in your hand.
"I knew you'd be turned on watching me in that Snake Eyes skit. Was it the beard?" Making you laugh was more rewarding than doing it in front of an entire audience. Jake's joke barely had time to land before you started to stroke him, replacing his words with grunts.
"Damn right, you looked so hot. If looks could kill, I'd be dead too." You helped him to take off his cardigan and then to pull his white shirt over his head. You discarded the clothes on the floor. Quickly, your lips peppered kisses along the cold metal of his chain until you could catch a glimpse of Jake in the mirror.
Jake's neck was covered in pink, red, purple and blue. There were bruises and teeth marks all over him.
With his chest rising and falling from his heavy breathing, caused by your hand that stroked his cock faster, you admired the painting before your eyes like it was the prettiest watercolour. "You look so good."
Jake's hands travelled to his neck and touched the bruises, one after the other. He winced, his lips curling up from the stinging sensation. "I hope they last for a long time."
"I hope so too," you kissed the spot where his shoulder met his neck. "Or else I'll just have to give you more hickeys."
"Oh no, that's so sad." You spoke together, imitating the funny singing voice he did earlier during his episode of Saturday Night. You laughed until both of you were naked and ready for this shower that promised to be very steamy.

part one
“Drownin’ in the Blue Nile, he sent me Downtown Lights, I hadn’t heard it in a while”
You stared down at the phone in your hands. It felt as though the notification was mocking you. A teasing taunt that stung like a million paper cuts. You hadn’t spoken to Danny in years, but this one message from him still had the ability to send you reeling.
Danny: this came on shuffle, made me think of you
He’d sent you a screenshot of his Spotify showing what he was listening to. Downtown Lights by The Blue Nile. You opened up the app for yourself and pressed play. The gentle tones were like a magic key that unlocked the gates that held back the memories from all those years ago.
You remember the first time he played you this song. You’d been on a night out for a mutual friend, Rosie’s, birthday and had ended up back at his apartment, you were both tipsy and not quite ready for bed. He poured you a glass of wine and showed you his favourite songs. You’d stayed up till the early morning sharing secrets and what felt like you every thought. No one had ever made you smile the way that he had that night. No one had made you laugh more.
You were sure that the memories from that night would be engraved in your mind for the rest of your life. Lingering stares and hands that touched for a moment too long in the dark haze of the nightclub. The way his eyes never faltered from yours as he asked if you wanted to go back to his place. The way his strong hand felt on the small of your back as he guided you from the club and onto the street.
He has a girlfriend, you reminded yourself as you sat next to him in the back of the taxi. You had tried to drown out your thoughts and focus on the way his fingers tapped against the side of his leg as a distraction. It didn’t work. You found yourself wondering what it would feel like to slip your smaller hand into his larger one. How his fingers would feel intertwined with yours.
You swore to yourself that nothing would happen. You weren’t a home wrecker. You simply just couldn’t pull yourself away from Danny’s magnetic aura. From the moment your eyes had locked earlier that night it was like the pair of you were playing a strategic game of chess. You’d lost the moment you felt his fingertips against your skin. It was innocent enough, but it felt like more.
Your friends had made sure you couldn’t forget about his girlfriend, even if you had tried. Each time they’d asked him why she hadn’t joined them that evening he would shrug his shoulders and brush their questions off like a professional, giving excuses of “she’s busy” or “ she’s out of town”. You never found out why she wasn’t with him that night, but you had a good idea. He had told you bits and pieces about his girlfriend, enough to see it was clear that it was a difficult subject for him. He wasn’t sure how long they would last. They were too different, and while it was fine at the start of their relationship, 9 months in the cracks were starting to show.
She liked the finer things in life; fancy dinners and holidays in the most exclusive resorts. He liked being at home in Australia on his ranch, riding around on quad bikes and spending time with his family.
It was safe to say that night the two of you had gone from friendly acquaintances to good friends.
You remember feeling relieved and quietly disappointed that you had kept the promise you had made to yourself. Nothing had happened. But why did it feel like it had?
“What the fuck are you listening to?” your boyfriend's disapproving tone felt more insulting than usual. He didn’t give you a chance to answer. It didn't matter anyway. Even if he had, how would you defend yourself without confessing the meaning behind the song? How could you possibly explain why this was one of your favourite songs of all time, despite it being so far from what you usually listened to.
“Sorry Evan, I’ll turn it over now.”
“My boredom’s bone deep, this cage was once just fine”
You had met Evan a few weeks after that night at Danny’s apartment. You had been trying desperately to shake the thought of the Aussie from your memory, and were failing horribly at doing so.
One of your close friends had been dating one of Evan’s. Your friend had assured you that Evan was the perfect guy for you. Every time she had brought it up you had declined, memories of Danny clouding your judgement. A few weeks of radio silence from Danny made it clear to you that that night had meant far more to you than it had to him. For that reason you had begrudgingly agreed to a blind date.
The first night you met Evan you thought he was charming. Not as charming as Danny.
He held your hand as he walked you to your apartment after the date. He kissed your cheek and told you he thought you were beautiful. You prayed to feel the butterflies fill your stomach the way it had when Danny as much as glanced in your general direction. The butterflies never came. You had concluded that it was better to be safe than starry eyed.
Being with Evan was easy; simple.
He wasn’t what you’d typically look for in a boyfriend. You were used to scruffy beards, oversized t-shirts and trainers. Evan wouldn’t be caught dead in anything but a perfectly crisp white shirt and tie.
He grew up in a wealthy family, appearances were everything to him.
He worked in finance. You remembered thinking that Danny would laugh and call him a finance bro if he ever met him. You could picture yourself holding back laughter at how uncomfortable Danny’s outgoing persona would make Evan feel. He’d cringe at his humour and roll his eyes at his jokes.
During weekdays Evan was out of the apartment by 7AM and rarely home before 9PM. He smelt like whiskey and cigarette smoke on the nights he would get home later. You didn’t bother asking him where he’d been. It wasn’t worth the argument.
He spent his weekends playing golf or drinking with his friends. You had gotten used to time alone. You enjoyed the silence more than Evan’s moaning and rude comments.
In the early days he’d take you on dates to the most expensive restaurants almost every night. He’d treat you to weekends away in countries you’d only dreamt of being able to visit. The website you had read online told you he had “love bombed” you. You wish you had seen the signs at the start of the relationship, but it was nice to feel wanted for a change.
You felt like you were living someone else's life the majority of the time. It wasn’t that you felt you didn't deserve the finest things the world had to offer, it was something else entirely. It was only now you realised it was that you never felt at home in Evan’s world.
In recent months you had started to call him out on his lack of ability to make time for you. He’d always bring home flowers as an apology. Arguments were reconciled by a blue Tiffany’s gift bag being left on your bed for you to find after he’d left to go to work the next day. You had a growing jewellery collection that screamed this relationship is failing.
You felt it was too soon in your relationship for cracks like these to be showing. Surely these were issues couples stumbled into later on in life? Although, your relationship had been a fast paced one. Within 6 months of dating and Evan calling you his girlfriend you had been living together. Perhaps that was why the end felt like it had arrived sooner than it should have. You’d jumped too quick into something that wasn’t built to last, and now you had to suffer the consequences.
“Am I allowed to cry?”
Alone - that's how you found yourself on a Saturday night. An empty bottle of wine on the table in front of you. Taylor Swift’s saddest songs echoing throughout the empty apartment.
Tonight’s argument with Evan had started the minute he had gotten home from golf with his friends. He was drunk and in a bad mood.
You should have known better than to point out the lipstick smudge on his cheek, but it had happened one too many times recently and your patience had worn thin.
“Are you really accusing me of that shit right now?” his mocking jeer had come at you like a stab to the gut.
Was he right? Were you crazy to suggest that he would cheat on you?
“I’m gonna leave you to think very carefully about what you’re insinuating right now. I’ll be back later, hopefully you’ll have gotten over whatever mood you’re in” he had said to you as he slammed the apartment door.
“I dream of crackin’ locks, throwing my life to the wolves or the ocean rocks”
It was funny to you that a luxury apartment could feel like a prison cell.
Your whole life you’d dreamt of living in a space like this. Large windows overlooking the city skyline, high ceilings and parquet floors.
Nothing in the apartment belonged to you. You’d asked Evan if you could buy some furniture pieces of your own, to put your own mark on your shared home. He’d reminded you quickly that it was his apartment, not yours. You were a guest here and he made sure that you knew it.
It was only now that you realised that this was not what you wanted for yourself, not really.
You dreamt of throwing it all away, the fancy apartment, the obnoxious boyfriend, the fake friends.
You longed for people who knew you. People who wanted to spend time with you. You’d fallen out of touch with a lot of your old friends when you’d started dating Evan. At the time you’d found it romantic to be swept up in a whirlwind romance. You knew now it was nothing more than a manipulative tactic to get you alone and all to himself.
“Crashing into him tonight, he’s a paradox”
Summer time in Monaco was one of the most incredible things you’d ever experienced. If you hadn’t gained much from the relationship with Evan, you were glad that you’d gained that.
You’d been a few times since being with Evan. He went more frequently, of course, weekends away with the guys, business trips and such. You were shocked when he’d suggested you join him for his friend James’ birthday weekend in Monte Carlo. Despite not necessarily wishing to spend your weekend off work surrounded by his snotty friends and their girlfriends who barely spoke to you, you knew you couldn’t pass up the chance to go back to the country that you had fallen in love with.
Usually you’d be annoyed that since arriving at the hotel you were staying in, Evan had all but forgotten you existed. He had left the minute you’d put your bags down in the foyer, letting you know he was going to meet the lads in the casino. He’d not been back to the hotel since, only sending a few messages letting you know what he was up to.
You couldn’t bring yourself to be that bothered by his behaviour. His absence meant you had gotten to explore the city more and treat yourself to some well deserved R&R. You’d walked along the beach and lost yourself in the winding streets of the city. You felt happier than you had in months.
It all came crashing down later that night. Evan had brought you to his friend's villa for the official birthday party of the weekend. He’d only given you an hour's notice to get yourself ready for the evening, you’d been quietly annoyed that he’d neglected to tell you sooner. You didn’t have the energy to argue with him over it, not anymore. He didn’t, however, forget to remind you to dress presentably. Your eyes had rolled so hard at the statement you felt they could have fallen out the side of your head.
Still, you had taken extra time taming your beach ready waves and styled it into a pretty updo that you knew Evan liked. Your lips were covered in the lipstick that Evan had told you was his favourite on you when you’d first started dating. He didn’t notice, or if he had, he didn’t care enough to say anything. You weren’t sure which was worse.
You had picked out your favourite sundress you had brought with you. You felt it was the perfect combination of relaxed and presentable. It made you feel pretty. Even if Evan had given you a side eye the second you’d stepped out of the bedroom and declared you were ready to go.
The villa was crammed with people that you didn’t know, it was a nightmare scenario for you. Your fingers gripped the wine glass in your hands, the chilled surface of the glass cooling the clammy heat that was sticking to your palms.
You didn’t know where Evan was. He’d kissed your cheek the minute you’d walked into the building and told you he was off to find his friends. You didn’t really understand why he had brought you here in the first place. It wasn’t to show you off, that much was obvious.
The patio out the back of the villa was a welcome sanctuary from the stuffy air inside. The minute you’d stepped out into the cooler evening air you felt instant relief.
Your eyes searched around, looking for an empty seat you could hide yourself away on as you took tentative steps across the stone deck. Your attention skewed by the overwhelming view of the city that the garden looked out onto. The view of the ocean combined with the setting sun was breathtaking.
You felt yourself collide with someone before you saw it happening. Strong hands gripped your upper arms preventing you from toppling over onto the floor. The wine in your glass had spilled out onto your dress, you could feel the cool liquid seeping through to your skin.
Your eyes adjusted as you pulled back from the body you had collided with. Strong hands that had once gripped against your skin had fallen away as your eyes locked with the man in front of you.
“Danny?” his name fell from your lips as a question rather than a greeting. Brown eyes stared into yours as his signature grin spread across his face.
“I think I should be more confused about you being here than me, no?” the Aussie spoke with a teasing glint to his voice. You had missed his voice. The look of confusion stayed firmly planted on your face. You considered formulating a response, but it felt as though every word you wanted to speak was getting caught up in your throat.
“What I mean to say is, how is it that I’ve not seen you in years, and now you show up here at some random blokes birthday party that I am sure you don’t know?” Danny elaborated. That playful smirk still dancing across his lips. You watched as his eyes shamelessly looked you up and down; you couldn’t stop the blush that you were sure was spreading across the tops of your cheeks.
“Yeah, I definitely don’t know the birthday boy,” you said with a laugh. “How come you’re here?” The question served as a good deflection. You didn’t want to speak to Danny about Evan. If you did he might stop looking at you the way he was right now.
“Never took you for a gate crasher. I’ve been dragged here by Max, he wanted some company because he knew everyone here would be ridiculously boring, finance bros or something… didn’t really take that as your scene either?” Danny replied as he guided you both to the bench next to them. You couldn’t help the laugh that escaped your lips. He’d hit the nail on the head there.
You both fell immediately back into old habits. You weren’t sure how long you’d been sitting on that bench talking, but judging by the darkness that had now spread across the sky and the cold chill in the air, it had been at least a few hours.
You took the time to study Danny. He hadn’t changed much in the time since you’d last seen him. He was still the most beautiful man you’d ever laid eyes on. Sun kissed tanned skin, dark tousled curls, glowing brown eyes, scruffy beard styled to perfection and a couple more tattoos on his arms.
You were ripped from your thoughts by the sound of heavy footsteps approaching you both. You didn’t need to look up, you knew who it was.
“Urm babe, where have you been? I’ve been looking for you everywhere” Evan said as he stood next to you. You watched as his eyes darted between Danny and yourself. You sensed the Aussie tense up beside you. You felt bad, you should have told him you had a boyfriend. But you revelled in those hours spent with Danny, pretending that Evan didn’t exist.
“Sorry, I bumped into an old friend and we got talking, lost track of time” you quickly apologised, the smile dropping from your face as you looked up at your boyfriend. He was pissed.
“Friend?” the word came from his lips with a slight laugh. Great, you thought. He was drunk and pissed off. And now mocking the thought of you even having a friend at this ridiculous party. A braver woman would have cussed him out for that. You didn't feel brave, you felt embarrassed.
“Yeah mate, friend. I don’t think we’ve met? I’m Danny” he said as he stood up to greet your boyfriend. Danny was at least 4 inches taller than Evan, and bigger in stature. Being a professional athlete, you knew that Danny was fit, but standing next to Evan it was clear to see the physical advantage he had on him. You hoped Evan felt intimidated.
Danny’s face hadn’t faltered since Evan had interrupted the two of you. His look was firm, but polite enough, the signature beaming smile you loved so much was absent from his face. It was clear he was annoyed, you suspected he was pissed at you for not mentioning the fact you had a boyfriend.
Evan choked out his name as he held out his hand for the Aussie to shake. You hoped he felt embarrassed for making such a scene, but you knew him better than that. Years of entitlement meant that he rarely was embarrassed by his own actions.
“So, how do you two know each other? I didn’t know you had friends in Monaco babe?” Evan’s tone was accusatory. He clearly thought you were lying. You also realised that he had no idea who Danny was. If he knew he was a rich, famous, successful athlete he would have shifted into networking mode.
“We’ve been friends for years, we haven’t seen each other  in a while so we had a lot to catch up on. Sorry to keep her from you mate, I presumed she was here alone seeing as you’d not been anywhere in sight for the last few hours” Danny replied. The apology was laced with judgement. He was clearly unhappy to see that your boyfriend had all but abandoned you. He was mad, but not at you. You could tell by the way his eyes had softened as they connected with yours once he was done staring down Evan.
“Well, sorry to interrupt the big reunion, but we’re heading off. I’ll meet you out front babe,” Evan spat at you as he turned and stormed back into the villa. You felt your body sigh in relief as you watched his figure disappear. Sheepishly you turned and faced Danny, your brain trying to find the right words to apologise for Evan’s behaviour.
“I’m so sorry about him Danny, he’s just drunk and annoyed, not that that’s an excuse… I’m sorry for not mentioning him before, I should have said something-” you were cut off by Danny’s warm hand grabbing yours. You felt the air catch in your throat as his fingers found yours. The cool metal of his rings felt like ice against your skin.
“Please don’t apologise for him being an asshole, that’s all on him. And you don’t need to apologise for not saying anything about having a boyfriend. I’ll be totally honest, I kind of already knew…” his words trailed off as a sly smile appeared on his face. Words failed you as you nodded your head, a signal for him to explain himself.
“I may have stalked your Instagram a couple times, and I saw Rosie a few months back in the paddock. I asked her how you were doing and she mentioned that you had a boyfriend now. She misses you y’know?” the Aussie said, the last part was whispered. You felt the tears threatening to spill from your eyes. You missed Rosie. You missed your old life.
You couldn’t bring yourself to say anything in return. You suspected that Danny knew all he needed to know by your glossy eyes and shaky hands.
“It was nice seeing you Danny” you said to him as a parting farewell. His hand squeezed yours gently before you pulled away from him.
You walked through the villa towards Evan who waited for you out front. You couldn’t help but feel like you were walking away from the one man you should have been running towards.

The Luckiest Girl in the World (chapter 19)
Summary: Rosie is heartbroken. Sherlock and John are furious and sad. An invitation from the elderly Holmes couple, brings back sweet memories, and might be just what the doctor ordered.
Nineteen Years Old
I was devastated and utterly heartbroken when David ended it with me. We’d been a couple for almost a year, and I was still so in love with him. I had failed to observe, had let sentiment cloud my mind, lulling me into a fantasy coated in pink and gold.
I wasn’t the only one affected by this. Dad muttered curses under his breath, while Papa alternated between fury and sorrow. He blamed himself for not seeing who David really was; a young man, too insecure about himself, needing female attention around the clock, which I was unwilling to give. I had my studies, homework, jiu jitsu, family, and my friends to consider as well, and I hadn’t wanted to spend every spare minute with David no matter how much I loved him. In my opinion, I couldn’t be blamed for needing to see other people, whom I also loved, and to maintain my interests. It was part of who I was. Nevertheless, I cried myself to sleep every night to the tones of Papa’s soothing violin.
***
The next weeks went by in a daze, though I managed to study for my upcoming exams, much thanks to the sessions in the dojo, which helped clear my mind of the fog. Finally, the last exam was history and the summer lay ahead of me like a blank canvas. Me and David’s plans for going to Dublin, were obviously abandoned. Luckily, our flight tickets and hotel reservations were refundable.
Congratulations with finishing your exam, love! Are you free to have dinner at home tonight?
Dad’s request piqued my interest, as he most likely knew it would. I had no plans and answered in the affirmative.
The day was sunny and pleasantly warm, which I felt always was the case when I had to sit inside a poorly ventilated classroom to pour all my wisdom into the exam forms.
“Let’s go to get ice cream,” I proposed to Liwia and Leyla who accompanied me out of the old school building.
“Covent Garden?” Leyla asked.
“Covent Garden,” Liwia and I agreed.
***
“How are you, Bee?” Papa asked when I returned home a few hours later.
“Not that bad actually. Glad to get the exams over with,” I said.
“Chocolate chips and raspberry,” Papa stated out of nowhere.
“You just can’t help yourself, can you?” I muttered fondly.
“I guess not,” he admitted a bit sheepishly. “Sorry, if that…”
“It’s fine, Papa,” I assured him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Is Dad cooking or is it takeaway tonight?”
“Neither. I am cooking,” he informed me, cupped my face and kissed my forehead.
“Oh! Must be a special occasion, then,” I teased.
He huffed and told me I could help instead of being sassy. I laughed, went upstairs with my school bag and changed into a pastel green dress. When I came back, Papa ordered me to make a vinaigrette and the salad. We worked in companionable silence, while classical music streamed out of the speakers.
***
“My compliments to the chefs,” Dad sighed contentedly when he’d all but licked his plate.
Papa and I stood and bowed, making lavish and silly gestures. The white wine made us pliant and relaxed. I hadn’t realised how much I’d missed sharing a lovely meal with my parents. In the last months, David had always been a part of it, or at least occupied a fair amount of my thoughts. And in that moment, I felt something heavy fall from my chest. I was free and had a whole summer ahead of me to do with as I pleased without having to consult David if he approved, wanted to be a part of my plans and what not.
“So, what’s all this about?” I asked.
Papa smirked, seemingly satisfied that I hadn’t been fooled about the intent of this dinner.
“As clever as your Papa, aren’t you?” Dad praised. “I would expect no less.”
He straightened in his seat and leant forward to catch Papa’s hand. Papa nodded and turned to face me properly.
“Granny and Pops have invited us to France next week. They obviously didn’t include you because of your initial plans with…”
Papa clenched his teeth and gripped Dad’s hand tighter.
“It’s fine, Papa. I’m getting there. No need to call in the cavalry,” I assured him and stroked his arm. “Tell me more. I haven’t been there in ages.”
“When you were eleven, I think,” Dad mused.
“Twelve,” Papa corrected him, which earned him a kiss to the back of his hand from Dad and a giggle from me.
***
The house Papa’s Grand-Mère originally owned, had been inherited by Granny. A small villa close to Cannes. Théoule-sur-Mer was secluded and far less crowded than the more famous sites of the French Riviera.
Being back brought treasured memories to mind. The warm and sunny weather, how Dad taught me to swim, Papa taking me snorkelling looking for exotic sea species, Pops reading The Little Prince in French, while simultaneously translating each paragraph, Granny’s coq-au-vin, quiche Lorraine and bouillabaisse. If there was any hint left of my heartbreak, it evaporated the second I dived into the crystal-clear water.

Cassian made his way into the Autumn Throne room, disregarding the frowns of the guards. When he entered he found Eris lounging on the throne, his leg crossed on his knee looking bored. Postering was what he was really doing. He knew Cassian was coming and somehow his nonchalance was in itself an act.
“Lord Eris,” Cassian let his voice boom in the nearly empty room. He hated having to use his title. Little Shit was what he wanted to call him. “I bring greetings from the Night Court.”
“I thought Rhys was sending the pretty one.” Eris made a face, crinkling his nose at Cassian.
“I am the pretty one, you just have poor taste.” Cassian grinned.
Eris quirked a brow, a hint of a smile on his lips. “Someone’s learned the art of a good quip. Have you been practicing in a mirror?”
“There is only one thing I do in front of a mirror, High Lord,” Cassian said before he could stop himself. “And I definitely don’t need practice for it.”
The innuendo hung in the air between them. Then Eris let out a laugh.
“Cocky bastard,” he said, standing. “Come along, I don’t have all day.”
Eris stood and straightened his clothes. Cassian noted the tighter white tunic that clung to his form and the similarly tight brown trousers. He bit the inside of his cheek to keep his scent in check. Eris was always good looking but when he tried- he was a down right devil. Cassian relaxed his wings as he followed, the side corridor empty of even guards. He openly stared at Eris as he walked in front of him, those fucking tight pants excentuating the curve of his ass. Gods he was going to murder Rhys for sending him.
They entered a side room a few doors down. It wasn’t the usual conference room; smaller with a round table in the middle. At least the chairs had a low back for his wings. Cassian looked over at Eris as he pulled a stack of paper from a pocket realm and sat them down on the table. He could see the tension in his shoulders from where he stood by the door.
“You look stiff,” Cassian’s voice rolled out in a low rumble. “You need help with that?”
“What I need is for you to stop flirting,” Eris grumbled. “We have a negotiation to discuss. Rhys thinks he’s so fucking clever.”
“Why is that?” Cass grinned.
Eris cut his eyes up to him. “He thinks he can send a pretty face to distract me.”
“I thought you said I wasn’t the pretty one,” his grin widened.
“I lie when it suits me, you know this. Now sit.” He gestured to a chair at the table.
“Do I get a reward if I behave?”
Eris didn’t react. Instead he sat across from him and ignored that remark. Cassian sat down and they proceeded to review each and every single document. An hour in and Cassian’s eyes were crossing at all the terms and conditions Eris was laying out for his agreement renewal. Nothing was changing- just the annual review.
“How many more of these do you have,” Cassian groaned, laying his head on his arms that rested on the table.
“I can add at least 20 more pages if you keep grumbling.” Eris crossed his arms and leaned back in his own chair. “If you’re bored, you can call Azriel to take your place.”
Cassian lifted his head and shot him a glare. It only made Eris smirk at him.
Eris added,“that’s what I thought you big oaf.” Oh how Cassian was going to fuck that sarcasm right out of him when this was over. “Focus, and I’ll give you a treat.”
“Can’t we take a break?” Cassian tried to ask nicely.
“Your idea of a break cost me a table last time.”
“Only cause you said ‘harder’.”
Cassian didn’t regret breaking that table. He doubted Eris did too and just threw something out to try and embarrass him. Eris’s amber gaze flickered over Cassian as he sat up. The High Lord once again rolled his eyes.
“There’s literally only thirty pages left.”
“Thirty too many.”
“Impatient brute.”
“You know Rhys doesn’t care about this. If he did, he’d be here himself.”
Cassian crossed his arms against his chest again. He could smell Eris from across the table no matter how much the High Lord tried to dampen his scent. Cassian didn’t hide his own. The whole room would stink with it for all he cared.
“I could have slipped something in the contract in these last thirty pages.” Eris had that arrogant smirk on him- his lying one.
“Rhys knows you’re a good enough male to not do that. This is just for theatrics.”
“Rhys only thinks he knows what kind of male I am.” Cassian chuckled at the annoyance in his tone.
“I know what kind male you are.” Cassian lowered his voice. “A very, very good one.”
Eris was on him immediately. He laughed as the normally stoic High Lord pressed his lips to his own and straddled his lap. Eris could say what he wanted, Cassian always got what he wanted. Always. His hands immediately grabbed his ass to pull him up his lap. He also opened his mouth a little coaxing Eris to deepen the kiss but the High Lord wasn’t having it.
“You know I can’t stand when you do that, you absolute bastard,” Eris pulled back and worked at Cassian’s clips but not making much progress. “Take these off before I burn them off.”
“These are my good leathers. You burn this off, I’ll have Rhys send Azriel next time.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time, General.” His amber eyes blazed as he smirked. “Though maybe next time Rhys can send you both.”
“No,” Cassian scowled. “This is our time. I am not sharing it.”
Eris hummed. “Not even with say, Nesta?”
In a swift movement, Cassian was up and tossed Eris onto the table hard. Eris’s moan was almost a growl and he shoved the papers aside, some falling onto the floor. It took Cassian a moment to realize exactly what Eris did, especially with him smirking at him.
“Ass.”
“I can play your game too, General.” Eris sat up on his elbows. “Do not break this table or I’m billing your High Lord for damages.”
Cassian just grinned.
Three days later, Rhys stared at the bill from the Autumn Court and told Cassian he wasn’t asking questions but next time it’s coming directly out his salary.

A Pair Made in The Pits
Falling Behind Pt. 3- TFP Megatron x Reader
Tumblr media
Part 1, Part 2
A/n: Thank you all, once again for your patience and understanding on the time it took for this chapter's release. It was hard to find time to write between multiple ER visits and the passing of my dog, but I was finally able to finish it up! I hope you all enjoy, and I would love to hear your thoughts. WC: 7099
And thank you to @callsign-relic for allowing me to commission her beautiful work for my story's cover art! You always make amazing pieces!
Warnings: Torture, cursing, Starscream and Megatron being a dick, and deprecation. If I've missed anything, please let me know
Y/n wasn’t sure as to how one of the Autobots- probably Optimus- had returned her car to her driveway, but she wasn’t complaining. She did, however, inwardly groan over the fact she forgot to turn off her 6am alarm after all of yesterday’s excitement, especially after the awful sleep she had. Y/n’s mind kept her up all night, the voices of anxiety now practically screaming that something was wrong- that something wrong was done. And it wasn’t until she had finally gotten to sleep did it feel that seconds later her alarm was blaring in her ear.
Getting up, against the wants of her body, Y/n slowly makes her way to her kitchen, debating whether or not she wants coffee or tea to start her morning. Looking in her fridge and seeing a lack of milk, the decision is easily made and she fills her kettle with water and begins preparing the steeper and getting the oolong out of the cabinet. However, before being able to take the first sip, the sound of the rumbling and then resounding hiss of a semi coming to a stop. Taking a look outside her living room window, there sits Optimus, waiting for Y/n to come outside, presumably to go back to the base.
“Shit.” Y/n groans, rubbing the bridge of her nose, wondering if the kids are also being ushered out of the house this early.
Pouring her tea into a travel tumbler, Y/n scurries around her house to take a quick shower and get changed into a black blouse tucked into a midi, and finishing it off with a pair of booties. She applies some makeup and practically runs out the door, grabbing a random book on the way.
“... Good morning, Optimus.” The passenger side door pops open and Y/n quickly climbs in and makes herself comfortable. The woman gives an airy laugh while fiddling with her hair, “I didn’t expect you so soon, I had to rush around to get ready.”
“Good morning, Y/n. I apologize- I did not mean to rush you, though it may be best to get back to the base sooner than later.” The cab hums with his response- even if Y/n hadn’t been inside, she was sure she would have felt the baritone vibrations nonetheless.
The drive back was long and quiet, much like last night. Taking a sip of her tea, Y/n finally looks down at the book, and it takes all of her restraint not to spit it out onto his dashboard. What looks back up at Y/n is a sweaty, shirtless cowboy and the title ‘Ride into My Heart Like a Stallion’. A gag gift given to them by their friend half-way across the country, of which Y/n never intended to touch, let alone read. Y/n couldn’t help but truly consider the pros and cons on whether or not she could just chuck the book, but she knew it would drag up more questions if she just threw the book out the window, so she simply crossed her arms over it and hoped that no one would ask her about it throughout the day.
“Y/n?”
Snapped out of her thoughts, Y/n looks over to the head unit of the dash, not entirely sure where to look before responding, “Sorry, it seems I was lost in my own thoughts.”
“I was asking if you needed to stop anywhere before heading back to base? We do not have much for humans at this moment.”
“Oh um, no, I’m alright. I have my tea and a book, and I’m sure the children will be able to keep themselves occupied as well. I’m not completely familiar with the boys, but Miko will most assuredly be fine; give that girl a pencil, paper, and something of interest, she’ll be kept busy for a while.” Y/n laughs to herself for a moment, though a worried expression passes over her face, “She’s a creative girl, but I worry about her being lonely. Her host parents aren’t used to her, and she doesn’t really have any friends at the school. I think, despite the rather strange circumstances, that perhaps being with you all may be good for her.”
“You seem to care for them well. Do you have sparklings of your own?’
“Sparkl- oh, Children? No no no. I don’t have any- um- sparklings. Closest thing I hope to get to that is Miko. I haven’t figured out my own grievances in this world, and it wouldn’t feel right to bring life into a world where your own quotemate may be a cruel joke.”
“A quotemate?”
Y/n takes a deep breath through her nose and casts her eyes to the ceiling of Optimus’ cab, trying to come up with a succinct explanation to the complex system that not even humanity has completely figured out, “Well, a quotemate is someone you are connected to. In the simplest of terms, your quotemate is the person who is supposed to protect, love, and stand beside you. And the way you find them is a quote that appears on one of your wrists- hence, ‘quotemate’. There’s a few more details, but that’s the gist of it.”
“We had a similar- but not very common- phenomenon on Cybertron, however, we call our fated ones ‘sparkmates’.”
“It’s a much prettier word than our species’. Why sparkmates?”
“Your kind call them hearts; we call it a Spark. It contains our life force and our memories. And in the case of the ones in which we are destined, they are our other half and thus hold the other half of our spark. Those of our kind who have a sparkmate were encouraged and expected to cherish and hold them dear.” Optimus’ cab is silent for a moment for a moment, “Though, after the start of the war, people began dreading hearing the words engraved on their frame, fearing their other half would be on the other side of the battlefield.”
“...Do you have a sparkmate, Optimus?” Another hum runs through the cab, before turning into the slightest chuckle.
“I do. He’s not the easiest mech to get along with, but I would never have made it as long as I have without him.” The bot’s facial feature may not be present, but Y/n can easily imagine the fond, endearing smile that would have otherwise found itself on the large mech’s lips. “I will be forever grateful for Ratchet’s undying support.”
“Ratchet?!” Once the statement sets in, Y/n’s head whips from the ceiling of the cab to the center dashboard at the revelation.
“You sound surprised.”
“Well, I haven’t spent much time around Ratchet, but he’s not the most- how do I put this- welcoming?”
“I will admit Ratchet is wary about the involvement of you and the children, but he will not cause you harm.”
“OH! Oh no- I- I didn’t mean to- to imply that he- I know Ratchet wouldn’t hurt the children! He just visibly doesn’t seem to like us.” Waving her hands in denial, Y/n scrambles to fix the miswording of her statement, but it doesn’t seem Optimus was too worried about the misunderstanding.
“Give Ratchet time, he will adjust. I have no doubt you both will get along with time.”
“You’re right- after all, we all will be spending much more time with each other. I look forward to getting to know all of you.” She smiles, glad to know Optimus, and likely the rest of them will take good care of the kids and herself. Maybe she would be able to pick Ratchet’s mind at some point for information about the anatomy or history of the Cybertron people.
*       *       *       *       *       *
“WHAT WAS THAT?!” This is not what the young woman had hoped would be, quite literally, crawling around the base, but she couldn’t peel her eyes away from the thing that Ratchet had just squashed, “I hope to hell and back that is not what you people consider some kind of bug!”
“No, Y/n. I’m afraid this may be the effects of dark energon.” Though Optimus’ voice is normally quite dark, Y/n could easily pick up on the deep worry that whatever this ‘dark energon’ brings, means nothing good will come of its arrival in the base. “ Seeing as it has some of the residue Arcee found on Cliffjumper, it would stand to reason that it was what brought both your equipment to life and Cliffjumper back from the dead.”
“It would answer the question as to why Cliffjumper’s life signal came back online, but dark energon, Optimus? It’s such a scarce material- it’s virtually nonexistent. Why would it be on this rubbish planet?”
“May I interject?” Both bots turn their attention to the woman they had evidently forgotten was there- one much more open to the interruption than the other. “Um- may I ask what energon is? I thought you said your people’s Allspark was made of it, so why would it attack Ratchet? ”
At the question, Ratchet scoffs and begins running diagnostics on the squished piece of equipment that previously housed some of this energon stuff. His blatant display of annoyance was no less irritating than it was yesterday, but not only did Y/n not want to start some sort of argument with Optimus’ sparkmate, it also wouldn’t get them anywhere, so she would refrain from mouthing off to the condescending mech. At some point, she was going to have to have a one on one conversation with Ratchet about speech behavior and ways to go about explaining things without making the rest of the room feel as if they’re a massive inconvenience, but now was not the time- no matter how tempting it was to tell him to shove his opinions up his tailpipe.
“Energon is the lifesource of our people. Dark energon is something that can give life-” Optimus gestures towards the mangled metal, “- but the cost is great. Not much is known about it, as Ratchet stated- dark energon is a rare commodity, but it is not something to underestimate, hence why I believe Megatron is the reason why it has found its way to this planet’s surface.”
Both Y/n and Ratchet look at Optimus, almost in synch, “But why?”
“To conquer this planet by raising an army of the undead.”
“Where would he find that many Cybertronian dead, Optimus? It’s not like Megatron is going to just stumble on a burial ground on this planet.” At least the sass Ratchet displays isn’t always just directed at any human- his leader isn’t even exempt from the proverbial lashings of the team’s medic, though Y/n supposes that may have something to do with them being connected.
Before Optimus could answer, his thoughts are interrupted by the sounds of the rest of the Autobots’ alt-modes. Upon stopping, each kid hops out of their respective guardian, having obviously come from some kind of fun. Looking at her phone, Y/n realizes that it's still a little early in the day, so she is a tad surprised they woke up this early on a Saturday, but she’s glad to see all of them having fun and maybe even bonding with their new companions. Seeing Bulkhead awkwardly handing Miko her electric guitar, she already has a feeling the girl will be putting on at least one show while they are at the base, knowing the acoustics are much too tempting for the girl to not play at least one song.
“Autobots, remain here. Ratchet and I will be outside of communications range for some time, so I’m putting you in charge.” Optimus give his orders
“Optimus, with all due respect, playing bodyguard is one thing, babysitting is another.” The sight of Jack scoffing and rolling his eyes at her wording is easy to see- any kid his age wouldn’t like the idea of being babysat, even if it was by an alien robot. The femme crosses her arms before gesturing towards the medic, “Besides, Ratchet hasn’t been in the field since the war.”
“My pistons may be rusty, but my hearing is as sharp as ever!” Ratchet’s call from his computer forces a laugh barely covered by a cough from Y/n, which she quickly mouths a ‘sorry’ when he shoots her a look.
“For the moment, it is only reconnaissance.” Optimus tries to assure the smaller bot, but both Arcee and Y/n could smell the bullshit from a mile away.
“Then why do I hear an edge in your voice?”
At her continued questioning, Optimus pauses and furrows his brows, “Arcee, much has changed in the past 24 hours. We must all learn to adapt.” Before she could get another word out, he turns to Ratchet, “Ratchet, bridge us out.”
And with just a few steps, they were gone.
“Okay chief, so, uh, what’s on the activity list?” Jack looks up to his mechanical guardian only to be met with a scowl.
“If I’m not mistaken, Jack, you should have some schoolwork to do. Why don’t we give them a break from whatever activities they treated you to this morning?” Y/n smiles at the kids, trying to give the Autobots a needed time off from their newly appointed roles as guardians. “Miko, you can practice some of your guitar and then start on some of your work, and Raf, I’m not sure of your schoolwork load, but I suggest you start on any work you may have.”
“Yes ma’am.” All three kids say, some more begrudgingly than others, all while setting up for whatever they are to get done.
“Good, I’m going on Patrol. Bee, you’re with me.” Arcee makes her way to the tunnel, ready to go out.
“But Optimus told us to stay here.” Bulkhead brought up the leader’s orders before almost immediately being shot down.
“When Optimus puts you in charge, you can call the shots.” With that, both Arcee and Bee transform and are down in the tunnel in seconds, leaving the kids, Y/n, and Bulkhead left.
“So, uh, what’s on the activities list?” Bulk turns, seeing Miko plugging in her guitar to the amp, the feedback forcing everyone to cover their ears.
“Band practice, anyone?” After a moment of silence, she turns to the younger boy, “Come on, Raf. You play anything?”
“Um… Keyboard?”
“Laptop and samples-”
Y/n smiles and shakes her head, glad to see the kids are getting along before opening her book and tea thermos, taking a seat near Ratchet’s computer stand so as to not get in the kids’ way. She never planned on reading this kookie book her friend sent her, but it was either the book or be subjected to joining Miko’s makeshift band after an already hectic week.
“Y/n, are you joining?”
“Nah, I’m good with just listening, Miko. You know I prefer listening to you play.” Shooting the girl a smile and thumbs up, she returns to the downright awful writing of this cowboy love story. Y/n has to go to the bookstore at some point to send an equally bad book. Maybe a silly alien romance book- forbidden love. They’ll be rolling on the floor at the concept.
As the woman chuckles to herself, the familiar green lights from yesterday start blaring, letting them know Agent Fowler had returned. Bulkhead rushed the kids to hide behind his pedes and Y/n didn’t want to risk being seen running over, so she kept her spot under Ratchet’s computer and motioned to the kids to stay quiet just as the elevator door opened.
“Prime? Prime!” Y/n couldn’t see the man, but she could tell that he must still be on the platform, since she could no longer hear his footsteps. Just like yesterday, he did not sound happy.
“Agent Fowler, uh, he’s not here. Nobody’s here! … except me, of course.” The green bot chuckles awkwardly, and Y/n silently groans- this mech is going to get them all caught if his nerves take over.
“Well, where is he? Wait, let me guess-” as Fowler rants and raves he must have started to move because Bulkhead begins taking steps to keep the kids out of sight. However, his movements and the cable to Miko’s guitar don’t seem to be mixing well, from the way Y/n sees Miko nearly fall, only for the boys to catch her. But the slight fall was enough for the guitar to send sound through the amp, she just hopes that it wasn’t enough to break the man from his tirade.
“Since when are you bots electric?” Fowler questions and Y/n is pleading for whatever deity that may be listening to grant Bulkhead the ability to come up with some kind of lie, but the kids beat him to it.
“Hi. We’re… interns! Earning extra credit in auto shop.” Jack awkwardly smiles, hoping his lie is bought.
“Alright. Let’s move. I’m taking all three of you into federal custody.” Hearing his footfalls on the metal stairs, Y/n makes her way over, picking up a piece of the squashed robot from earlier that Ratchet must have missed.
“Over my dead body.” She holds up the metal piece like a makeshift bat, more than ready to take a swing.
“Woah there. By the stripes of Uncle Sam’s shorts, ma’am, put the weapon down. I’m just going to take you and these kids to-” Taking a step back, Agent Fowler puts his hands up to show he didn’t mean any harm, only to be cut off by the woman again.
“Nowhere. You are taking these kids nowhere. Optimus has promised protection for these kids and like hell will I allow some random ass man, trusted government agent or not, to touch a hair on these kids’ heads, let alone take them anywhere.” Y/n takes a look behind her, and in seeing the kids looking between Y/n and Fowler apprehensively, she drops the metal to her side, not letting go in case something goes awry, “… I will go with you, if it will get you to leave.”
“What?!” Miko shrieks, coming to hold onto the sleeve of Y/n’s blouse, making her briefly glance back before bringing her attention back to Agent Fowler, ”You can’t go with him! He-”
“Bulkhead, get Miko.”
“Uh I don’t-”
“Get her now, Bulkhead. She is your ward, act like it.” She shoots the metal giant a glare, watching as he finally picks the girl up, not that she went peacefully.
“No! Put me down, Bulk!” Miko thrashes in his hold as Y/n walks towards Fowler.
“Let’s go have a conversation with whomever your boss is, shall we? I’m sure I can convince them that leaving these children in Optimus’ care is the best course of action.” She grins at the man as she passes him on the way to the elevator, a grin that holds a level of malice that makes Fowler nearly let the woman just stay instead of getting in the confined space of his helicopter.
But only nearly.
“And I know that my superiors will have all of you in custody.” He grabs her elbow and finishes leading her up the steps and into the elevator. Both adults could hear Miko screeching in Bulk’s grasp, threats and complaints that turned to pleading the closer Y/n got to that elevator. Y/n didn’t say anything. She didn’t look back. But with every step she took, her heart squeezed with each scream from the girl. It isn’t until they get onto the elevator and the doors close that the tension from her shoulders ease and the breath escapes her.
“Is that so? I’d say if your superiors are as weak-willed as you, I’ll be back before it’s time for the kids to be back home.” She doesn’t bother looking over at the man, not even as he mumbles something about respect and ‘women and alien robots being the problem with his blood pressure’.
Before long, the elevator comes to a creaky stop and the doors open to reveal the orange hue of the rock the base is hidden under and a view that, under different circumstances, would be quite gorgeous, especially with the breeze taking away from the baking early fall sun. A few feet away lies the helicopter Agent Fowler presumably arrived in earlier. The reality of the past ten minutes was setting in with each step they took towards the vehicle and while Y/n absolutely would have stood up for those kids again in a heartbeat, maybe she wouldn’t have given herself as collateral quite as quickly.
“Get comfortable, it’s gonna be a long 5 hour flight.” Tired of his hold on her arm, Y/n pulls herself away before scrambling up into the body of the helicopter, grimacing at her lack of grace.
“I don’t suppose you’ll be providing in-flight snacks. After all, you seem to have such star spangled hosting skills.” She adjusts herself in the passenger seat, and never in her wildest days would she ever thought she would hope and pray for a vehicle to turn into a giant robot and prevent her from being sent to a government facility, but here she sits- hoping for just that.
“Are you going to be pushing my buttons this entire flight, or will I have an ounce of peace on the way to the Pentagon?” Fowler pulls himself up, lacking his own grace and nearly falling face first into his seat, forcing a snort to come from Y/n.
“Well, you’re more than welcome to send me back to the base.” The suggestion brings out a laugh of Fowler’s own, no other answer needed nor given. Starting up the chopper, he glances over to ensure the straps were done properly before handing a set of headphones to Y/n, before the sound of the blades becomes too loud.
Finally, the vehicle lifts off the ground and the flight to Washington D.C. begins, making Y/n wonder if she could properly time being over one of the larger ‘islands’ of sandstone littering the Nevada desert to jump out of the copter, but deigns it too risky to attempt. While she’s turning over possible solutions in her head, Fowler rings his boss, “Sir, Agent Fowler. We have a situation. I’m en route from the autobot base. I’ll brief you in person.”
Choosing to save her breath, Y/n continues looking out the window of her side of the vehicle, noting the sun ebbing its way closer to being at its highest point. That was one thing she hated about this area, while she found the landscape to be gorgeous, it quickly became boring seeing the exact same hues of orange, yellow, brown, and the occasional reds. It couldn’t have been more than fifteen minutes after Fowler informed his boss of his location that the sonar built into the dashboard started beeping with an icon flashing on the screen, getting closer to the center of the sonar’s radius.
“I am begging you to tell me that is either a big bird or a friend.”
“What in Uncle Sam’s beard-” Looking up from the dashboard, Y/n sees some kind of drone flying right at them and lets out a shout, pushing the steering gear to the side with her foot before the thing coming their way. Luckily, Fowler snaps out of his shock quickly enough to grab the steering before the both of you could go crashing into the canyon side.
“Watch it!”
“You watch the fucking drone!” And as if her luck wasn't bad enough, in the next moment, the helicopter jostles, claws of whatever had attacked them now sinking into the roof of the helicopter's cab. Moving in her seat, Y/n looks up to the ceiling and shrieks upon seeing the sharp talons that easily make up the length of her face stuck in the metal above her, forcing the agent to cover his ears.
With a harsh yank from above, the copter jerks in response and the last thing Y/n remembers is the feeling of the cold, hard glass making a sharp impact with the back of her head, before everything went dark.
*       *       *       *       *       *
The feeling of weightlessness while simultaneously feeling as if something is pulling you down by your ankles is something Y/n can confidently say she's never felt before. That sensation accompanied by the frigid air around her and the pain of having her arms being held twisted uncomfortably in the air made her transition back to consciousness that much more unpleasant. Tension and pain racks her body every step closer she gets to being awake, drawing out a strained hiss from the woman.
“Ooh? Look who's finally decided to join the party.” A scratchy voice drawls from a few feet to her left. Opening her eyes, Y/n is met with two bright, red eyes made all the more piercing with the bot's white dots that must act as pupils. Despite the strain on her throat and body, she lets out an ear-shattering scream and kicks the new mech.
“Ach! Why you little-”
“Where am I?! Who the fuck are you?! Let me down!” Paying little mind to the irritated figure before her, she struggles in her chains, squirming and shaking.
“Awwww the little human wants to be let go?” A sharp talon pricks Y/n's chin and lifts it to bring her eyes back to his, the grin on his face a celebration of his premature victory.
“Yes! Please!”
“How polite. Such a rarity in humans.” He chuckles to himself, obviously thinking his little stab to be funny. “All you have to tell me, dear, is where the Autobot base is. Can you do that for me?”
“Don't tell him anything!” Finally, Fowler speaks up from Y/n's left, shocking her into whipping her head to face him, not having even noticed his presence prior to him yelling.
A silence fills the cold, dark room and Y/n looks back to the mech before her, a desperate look in her eyes, “I'm sorry, what's an autobot?”
The mech wrenches back, his grin twisting into an infuriated scowl. Standing to his full height, he wraps the chains that hold her around his hand and pulls them up and towards him, further twisting her arms until a sickening pop echoes in the room, forcing a scream to rip from her throat. Any kindness, faux or no, had vanished as the bot before her snarls, “What do you mean, you don’t know?!”
Y/n’s breathing is shallow and panicked, the burning sensation surging down her arm and through her shoulder causing her to squeeze shut her eyes. Luckily, it was only her right arm, but there was no time to appreciate that. After a moment, she opens her eyes to see the now-blurry mech leaned down in front of her through the tears building and streaming down her face, she hiccups, “I’m sorry! I don’t know what you’re talking about, I swear!”
“Fine. If you’re going to play like this, I have no choice but to escalate matters.” He brings himself back up to his full height and turns to another bot who presumably is standing guard at the door. “Bring the prod.”
Prod?! If struggling in her chains wouldn’t exasperate her dislocated shoulder, Y/n would be moving every which way in order to find some way to get out of this nightmarish shitshow.
“Please, sir. I don’t know anything about any Auto people! I was picked up by this man after getting lost in the desert.” Tears beginning to subside, Y/n glances at Fowler and then back to Starscream, “I’m sure you’re a reasonable… robot-”
“I am not one of your feeble human machines, I am Starscream! Current second-in-command and future leader of the Decepticons!” The door opens, letting more cold, stale air into the room, and the bot from earlier reenters the room, holding what can only be described as some futuristic bident. Starscream snatches the device from the other Decepticon, “Finally, what took you so long?!”
“I’ll be nice and give you one more opportunity, humans- where is the Autobot base?” Switching his tactics to address Fowler, he leans down to the man and holds the prod up to his chin.
“Sure thing, buddy, right after you eat my star-spangled shorts.” Fowler laughs but is quickly cut short as Starscream activates his prod, a pink electrical current running between the two prongs. Upon pressing it to Agent Fowler’s ribs, the man screams in pain, clutching his own chains in an attempt to ground himself.
“No!”
“As I imagined, energon and human nervous systems don’t mix.” As he keeps the energon-infused prod pressed to Fowler’s skin, his grin only grows. With each press of the instrument, the clothes begin to sear away, allowing the energon access to his bare skin, no doubt doing further damage, if the smell of burning skin is anything to go by.
“Starscream, leave him alone! Please!” Voices in her head plead with her to keep her mouth shut, to no avail. The man is suffering, and while Y/n wasn’t exactly Fowler’s biggest fan for taking her away from the Autobot base, she didn’t want to see the poor man suffer.
And he stops, but only for a moment. The humming of the torture device and the heavy gulps of air Fowler sucks into his lungs at the brief interlude fill the otherwise silent room. Starscream’s eyes flick back and forth, not really focusing on anything. After another moment, he gives a thoughtful hum of his own, “Perhaps you’re right. I may have been going about this all along.”
“Yes! I’m glad you-”
“If what you say is true, that means you’re an innocent human. And what a shame it would be if a, what do you humans call them- “protector of the people” was to allow a civilian to face such methods of… interrogation.” And without another moment’s pause, knives felt as if they were entering Y/n’s bloodstream from where Starscream jabs her, ripping yet another agonizing scream from her throat.
“Stop it, con! She has nothing to do with any of this.” Fowler barks, jostling his chain to attempt to wriggle out of his constraints.
“Precisely. The faster you tell me where the Autobots are hiding, the sooner I stop hurting our friend here.” Driving the point home he jams the prod back into Y/n’s ribcage, releasing another scream from the woman. Similar to when Fowler was receiving the same “Decepticon hospitality” Y/n’s clothes began to singe away. Fighting the desire to keep her eyes closed, she struggles to look at Fowler and give him the briefest of shaking her head, before letting it hang down, the weight of her own head too much to keep up.
I am not doing this just for you to give it away, Fowler. Don’t fuck this up.
She knew she couldn’t say anything that may give her away, so the hope is that her fellow prisoner could understand to keep his mouth shut, even if she is to suffer for it. The next jolt was to her right arm, as if that arm hadn’t already been pulled from its socket, just at the crook of her elbow. To drive home the fact that he didn’t plan on letting up, Starscream dug the prod in harder against her skin, drawing blood to the surface. He finally retracts the weapon and holds Y/n’s head up with a dagger-like finger on each cheek, turning her to fully face Fowler, not that she could see him very clearly, “Come now, Agent Fowler. I don’t think our friend has much more in her. Haven’t you realized the Autobots have abandoned you? I am the only one you can rely upon now. So, tell me what I want to know, or we’ll see how many more she can take.”
“Please… no more. I’ll tell you,” Fowler breaks eye contact with Y/n, ashamed to give up after she’s done so much to keep quiet. He couldn’t keep sitting back, letting her take the brunt of Starscream’s sadism anymore. It takes so much strength for him to muster the words, “They’re in… secret government base.”
“Fowler… no.”
“Go on.”
Shots being fired were audible from beyond the door across the room. And unless Decepticons practiced their aim in the empty hallways Y/n briefly saw, that means the opposition was aboard.
That means the Autobots had come to save them.
“You were saying?” Having also heard the commotion outside, Starscream becomes more antsy, and it shows.
“In the old steel mill… or was it under that carnival funhouse?”
Finally fed up with the disrespect and sass, Starscream frustratedly yells and stabs the prod back into Y/n, the intensity of the voltage much higher than it had been earlier. The shots were louder now, being heard even over Y/n’s screeches. If Fowler wasn’t halfway into unconsciousness, he would have tried to distract the mech as much as he could, but he couldn’t think past staying awake and alive.
“I’ve had enough of this.” Starscream begins unraveling Y/n from her chains, not trusting the others to keep the Autobots at bay, let alone defeating them. He may not leave this moment the victor, but like hell is he going to lose both hostages. Y/n doesn’t have the strength to fight back after all that had been done, barely even registering that not only is she free from her chains, but she’s also haphazardly being shoved into a cockpit and losing consciousness for the second time that day.
The door to the room opens a moment later, a silent Vehicon just stands in the entryway.
“Well?” He asks, patience draining with every passing second, quickly turning to shock when the Vehicon’s frame drops and both Bulkhead and Bumblebee are poised for blasting whatever stands in the room, immediately shooting the other Vehicon with Starscream. Aiming his arm towards Fowler, Starscream glowers at the interrupting bots, “Not so fast-”
“I wouldn’t.” Arcee taps him from above, having snuck her way in through the ventilation shaft.
“Oh, but I might.”
“Where’s Y/n?” Bulkhead keeps his blaster aimed towards Starscream, but with a brief glance around it’s easy to see there is no other organic life, other than Fowler- only chains that now hang empty.
“The other human? She said she didn’t know you, so we… parted ways.”
“NO!” Bulkhead shouts and immediately begins shooting, prompting the other to take fire as well. Starscream can only jump from side to side in order to avoid their gunfire.
“Apologies, Autobots, but I’m sure you can find her body down below somewhere.” He cackles as he transforms into his alt-mode, and races out of the room, knocking Arcee from the vent and Bulk and Bee into the ground.
* * * * * *
Y/n wakes up in another dark space- only this time it’s much smaller and warmer; there’s a sway to the room, if you can call it that, but she isn’t sure if the sway is from the nausea overcoming her or if wherever she is is actually moving. The last thing she remembers is a final shock to her body before passing out. Eyes adjusting to the light, it’s easy to determine the surrounding space is the inside of some kind of jet, but instead of the cockpit being parallel to the ground, it’s upturned, like the aircraft would be facing the sky. She was in a Cybertronian- likely Starscream, if the color scheme is anything to go by.
Pressing her hands to the ground, Y/n is quickly reminded of the fact that Starscream had ripped her right arm out of its socket. Looking down, she notices her clothes are burnt and ripped beyond repair- her blouse now adorned with asymmetrical, distressed sleeves that barely go past her elbows and the skirt being a shredded mess, likely from rough handling of Starscream’s razor sharp talons; Taking her foot and stepping on the pathetic scraps of fabric of her skirt, Y/n uses her functional hand and rips a handful of the fabric strips away. Y/n balls the cloths up and puts it in between her teeth as a makeshift mouth guard. The limb now felt numb, but she knows that popping it back in is going to burn; her left hand grasps the right arm’s bicep.
Deep breaths. Deep Breaths, Y/n.
And with an upwards jerk, she feels a brief click in her shoulder, but the limb doesn’t doesn’t stay in place, forcing a deep inhale through her gag.
Relax. You’re not going to be able to reset it if you don’t fucking relax. You just survive until Optimus gets you.
After another few deep breaths, Y/n tries it again and feels a more solid click as she screams, muffled by the burnt fabric in her mouth; letting go, her arm stays in place, though a reignited burn returns to the site of the wound. With her arm taken care of, getting out of this wretched place is next on the to do list. Banging a hand on the glass enclosing her in this dreadful mech’s cockpit, the needles in her throat become even more pronounced as she groans, ”Let me out.”
Nothing changes. His steps are still steady.
“Let me out!”
Again, nothing.
“STAR-”
“STARSCREAM, YOU INCOMPETENT FOOL! I ORDERED YOU TO AWAIT MY COMMAND!”
Upon hearing such a loud fury, Y/n immediately seeks out the most stable part of Starscream’s cockpit and hunkers down. If she has learned anything, it’s that these Decepticons generally deal with disputes through violence, and she doesn’t believe that stops within their own ranks.
“Please, Lord Megatron, I meant no- AGH!” and just like that, Starscream, and Y/n transitively, fly across the room at Megatron’s hand. And though Y/n can’t see him, it did not sound like it took much physical exertion for him to do so.
“Instead, your mindless agenda resulted in the disabling of my ship and the delay of MY PLANS!” Megatron raises his hand again, more than ready to strike Starscream again.
“My intentions were pure, master. I only wanted you to be rid of Optimus.” Y/n’s world tilts as Megatron brings his foot against Starscream’s head, smashing it into the ground and allowing sparks to fly; she grunts at being thrown from her “safe space” and rolls onto the glass under her that begins cracking under the pressure of Megatron’s foot. She hates crying, but after the third time death threatens to barrel down your door, the stress begins to cap off, and so the weeping begins.
“NO ONE RIDS ME OF OPTIMUS PRIME BUT ME! DO YOU UNDERSTAND? DO-” The sound of Y/n’s wailing, though faint to Megatron’s audials, catches his attention. Lifting Starscream above himself by his throat and turning him enough to get a glimpse into his cockpit, making perfect eye contact with Y/n. Slowly turning Starscream back to face him, Megatron tightens his grasp around his throat and hisses, “Starscream… explain yourself.”
“My lord, She is a friend of the Autobots! I took her as a hostage so we can extract information!” His voice comes out staticy, a sign Megatron may be doing more damage than he should as he continues constricting his grip.
“You are as stupid as you are a disgrace to the Decepticons. Bring the human out.” Megatron growls his command and releases his throat, sending his second-in-command scrambling to retrieve Y/n, who in turn dodges each grab at her body, thanking the fates for making his cockpit on his back while bi-pedal.
“Stop moving, you-”
“Keep the fuck away from me! I already told you, I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, you walking scrapyard, and me speaking to your troglodyte of a boss isn’t going to change that!” Unfortunately, there’s only so many places for Y/n to run to, and her Yakety sax impression comes to a close when he manages to snag a part of her skirt. Bringing her out on the palm of his hand whilst using his thumb to press her to lie flat on her stomach, he presents her to his master while scowling down at her.
“Why you insolent little-”
“You are wasting my time, Starscream! Is she telling the truth- have you really learned nothing from your own hostage?! Not only have you wasted our resources with your stunt, but you have given the Autobots a reason to storm this ship!”
“No, my liege! They won’t come here to find her- they believe her to be dead.” Starscream allows a shaky smile to creep its way onto his lips, hoping to at least somewhat appease the brute in front of him. Processing what he’s just said, Y/n stops trying to move her way from under the mech’s thumb.
They think I’m dead.
“And what does that leave us with? A soft, useless human who can’t even escape the confines of your servos, let alone provide any kind of productivity for our cause.
No one is coming to save me.
The image of Megatron’s face moving to be right in front of her entire body snaps Y/n out of her spiraling thoughts of lost hope, the heat and humidity coming from his mouth breezes against her, forcing goosebumps to crawl along her arms. The mechanical giant looks her person up and down, then scoffs,
“Worthless scrap.”
The woman bristles as he begins to make his way towards one of the room’s doors. Having noticed Starscream loosening his hold on her back, Y/n stands and snarls at the back of Megatron, “I’m sure you know all about being worthless, wouldn’t you.”
His heavy foot slams to the floor midstep, once relaxed stature stiffened as he slowly turns back towards Y/n and Starscream, in which the latter panickedly looks between the girl in his hand and the mech who has killed other Cybertronians for less. Megatron turns his attention to another mech Y/n had not previously noticed who is practically hidden in the lack of light on this ship- of whom looks back to Megatron. The two stare at one another, as if speaking with each other telepathically.
“Starscream, take that… thing to Knockout for examination.”

Not So Complicated
AN: Yes, I just realized that Robin and Steve didn't get the Family Video job until the Byers started to move, but this is an AU, so anything goes. . . I really couldn't help but write this. . .
He hated the idea of leaving Hawkins, just as much as Will did, but his mom wanted them to be safe, and it wasn't just that. They knew how Mom felt now that Hopper was gone, and Jonathan knew how hard it would be for her to stay. If they asked her, she would choose to stay for them, but in the process, she would be miserable. He had thought about Nancy. . .what if she died. . .would he be able to stay? Jonathan never wanted to find out. He hated leaving her, but it comforted him to know she was still alive. They had a month before they left, and Jonathan was determined to make the time he had left with Nancy count. It's how they ended up at Family Video. Movie night.
"Do you know what you want?" Nancy asked as they walked through the door, the bell ringing rather loudly.
"No, why don't you pick something out? I need to ask Steve something," Jonathan said.
"You're really going to ask for Steve’s number for Will?" Nancy asked in amusement.
"Why did you ask it like that?" Jonathan huffed. "I'm just going to talk to him."
"You know I know his number, and Dustin knows his number, so it's safe to say Will knows his number," Nancy said. "This is just an excuse. . .isn't it? You know, what? Why am I stopping this? I'm going to pick out a movie."
Steve had his back turned, his eyes on the computer screen. He hadn't even noticed that they had come in. Jonathan leaned on the counter and rang the bell. Steve sprang up immediately.
"Ahoy, ladies, I'm Steve Harrington, and I'll be your - !" He yelled, startling Jonathan. "Shit, Jonathan, you're not a lady."
"Last time that I checked," he said, laughing.
"Robin made a bet that I - you know what, it doesn't matter," Steve said, blushing. "It's a Scoops Ahoy thing."
"Yeah, I saw you in the outfit. Kind of wish I had gone to Scoops at least once to see you in action," Jonathan said. "Bet you really put it to work."
It was supposed to be a sarcastic comment, but Steve’s cheeks turned pink, and Jonathan suddenly wondered if he just accidentally flirted with him. Steve smiled softly as he gazed at him, and he was thrown for a moment. He always thought that Steve’s eyes were brown, but as he looked at them more closely, they weren't just brown. . .they were green, too. They reminded him of the forest.
"Something wrong?" Steve asked.
"Are your eyes hazel?" Jonathan blurted out.
"Last time I checked, yeah," he said in amusement.
"It's. . .nice. . .your vest really brings out the green. It reminds me of the forest. . .I like trees," Jonathan said.
I like trees? Did he suddenly turn into an idiot?
"I like trees too," Steve said, grinning.
"This is going to sound weird, but can I have your number?" Jonathan asked.
"Yeah," Steve said in surprised and scribbled it quickly on a piece of paper. "Here."
"I know your name, and do you usually draw a heart over the I?" Jonathan asked.
"Only in special circumstances," Steve winked.
"I just - it's for Will, you know, in case he wants to check in," he said quickly.
"Sure, for Will," he said laughing.
"Why do you sound like you don't believe me?" Jonathan said.
"Because it sounds like you don't even believe it," Steve said as he leaned on the counter, getting closer to him and inflating his eyes.
"What - stop doing that with your eyes," he said.
"I'm not doing anything," he said innocently and stood up.
Suddenly, Nancy appeared beside Jonathan with a grin on her face. Jonathan jumped.
"I found a movie," Nancy said, and he stared at her. "Jonathan?"
"Yeah, that's great," he said, blinking rapidly.
"Is everything okay over here?" Nancy asked as she looked between the two.
"More than okay," Steve replied. "I see what you see in him, Nance. He's pretty adorable. If I were another girl, I'd be stealing him away from you."
"You're an idiot, Steve Harrington," Nancy said affectionately.
"Cute boys will make some people do stupid things," Steve said, batting his eyelashes rather obnoxiously, and Nancy giggled.
Just for a moment, Jonathan wanted Steve to steal him, but then, for another moment, he wanted Steve to steal Nancy, too. That was such a weird thought, and he was so focused on it that he didn't even notice that Nancy had dragged him outside. Did he just hit on Nancy's ex-boyfriend, and did Steve flirt with him back? No, that's crazy. Meanwhile. . .back in Family Video, Steve was leaning against the counter, watching the door rather intently.
"Well, any luck?" Robin asked as she came out of the back.
"Huh?" Steve asked, looking at her.
"Any luck meeting someone special?" She asked.
"Have you ever looked at someone for one moment and not see them, not really, but then this one small moment changes everything?" Steve asked her.
"Well, you know I always thought you were an asshole but clearly, you showed me," Robin said.
"Not like that," he said. "You know, romantically."
"Okay, so, a pretty girl walked in who you never thought was pretty before?" Robin asked.
Steve looked back at the door and thought about Jonathan. He thought about his dark brown eyes. . . The color of coffee and just like coffee, it woke something up inside of him.
"Yeah. . .he's very pretty," Steve said with a sigh.
"Alright, so, who is this girl?" Robin asked as she started putting away video tapes.
"Robin!" Steve exclaimed.
"What? Am I missing something?" She asked.
"I'm going to give you a minute," Steve said as he turned back to the computer.
Robin rolled her eyes before continuing to put away the tapes. Steve sighed and gave her a look. He crossed his arms and began tapping his foot. His best friend was still a genius, right? Robin gasped and dropped the tapes. She turned around and ran around the counter, grabbing him.
"Steven, did you say what I think you just said?" Robin asked.
"Yeah," Steve said grinning.
"Did you mean what you said?" She asked.
"Yeah."
"Okay, okay, okay. . .what does this mean?" She asked.
Steve thought of Nancy's smiling face, her blue eyes, and the way she sounded when she called him an idiot. . .the way his heart still beat when she called him that.
"Well, I still like women so I don't know," he said.
"Hmm. . .well, can you tell me something you do know like. . .who is this guy you think is so pretty?" Robin said with a grin.
"You're going to flip," he said.
"Steve, this pancake has already flipped. Time to take it off the griddle," Robin said.
"Well, it's complicated. . ."
A month or so later, Jonathan didn't call Steve until after they had moved. It had been a lot of sleepless nights lost thinking of him, thinking of Nancy, and sometimes thinking of the both of them. After a long phone call with Nancy, he nervously called Steve.
"Hello?" Steve asked.
"Hey, it's Jonathan," he said.
"Hm, I thought my number was for Will," Steve said in amusement.
"It never was," Jonathan said.
"Knew it," Steve said.
"Don't get cocky or I'll hang up," he said.
"I'm not, just happily stating a fact," Steve replied.
"So, how are you?" Jonathan asked and winced at how awkward he sounded.
"Better now that you called," Steve said.
"Oh, well, I'm glad I can make your day better," Jonathan said, grinning.
"My parents are home. . .so, I'm really glad you called," Steve said.
"Are they really that bad?" Jonathan asked.
"Steven!" Jonathan could hear another man's voice on the other end of the line. "Are you making an appointment to get your hair cut? I swear, it's bad enough that my son is too much of a dumbass to get into college. Now I have to worry about him looking like a girl. It's like you want to embarrass this family. You should at least make an effort to look like a man if you can't be one."
"I'll make an appointment after this phone call, Dad," Steve said through gritted teeth. "It would be rude to hang up on this person."
"You better," he said. "Your mother is medicating again. She just had to listen to Sandra brag about her child going to Harvard. You don't want to disappoint your mother again. You remember what happened last time?"
There was a long stretch of silence, and then suddenly, he could hear Steve let out a breath.
"She did that because of you," Steve muttered.
"Jesus, Steve, are you okay?" Jonathan asked.
"I'm fine, I will be fine," Steve said. "I guess I'm going to have to make an appointment though."
"Don't cut your hair," Jonathan blurted out.
"What?"
"I mean, do you want to cut your hair?" He asked.
"Well, no," Steve said.
"Then don't. . .you look good. . .really good," Jonathan said softly.
"Okay. . .I won't. I look good, huh?" Steve asked.
Jonathan smiled at the tone of his voice, how much happier he sounded because of him. He never thought that he would have something like that in common with Steve Harrington, and he kind of hated that his dad was such an asshole but there was a part of Jonathan that felt a little less alone knowing that there was someone else who knew what it was like to have a father like that.
"Hey, so we're going to tell Nancy that we're. . . friends now, right?" Jonathan asked.
"Yeah," Steve chuckled.
"It's good. . .that's good, but maybe we don't tell her that she was right about us getting a long," he said.
"Why? She's going to figure it out anyway. You know how she is. . .especially when she's right," Steve said.
"I know, I know. . .she just gets this twinkle in her eye. . .," Jonathan said.
"That's both obnoxious and beautiful at the same time?"
"Yeah. It makes you feel like you want to be wrong all the time," Jonathan said.
"Tell me about it," Steve said softly.
"Are you still . . . Never mind, forget I said anything," he said.
"Always, I think," Steve said, answering his incompleted question.
There was a heavy silence that followed. It said everything and nothing at the same time.
"I wish I was there," Jonathan said.
"Yeah, me too," Steve said softly.
They talked longer than they should have and didn't stop until Steve’s father practically yanked him off the phone. Jonathan had flopped on the bed after that, feeling everything come alive for him in that moment. He liked Steve, a lot more than he should, but he also still loved Nancy. . .what the hell? He hugged his pillow close to his chest and sighed.
"Hey, Jonathan," Will"s voice broke through his thoughts. "El wants to play a board game. Are you in?"
"Yeah, I'll be there in a minute," he replied.
"Are you okay?" Will asked. "Did you and Nancy have a fight?"
Jonathan sat up and looked at his brother. He wanted nothing more than to tell him. . .to tell Will that he wasn't alone, but he also didn't want to make him feel like he was pressuring him to tell him anything he wasn't ready for. Jonathan sighed, opened his mouth, and closed it again. He also wasn't quite ready yet to say it outloud. It's not that he didn't trust Will. . .he just wasn't ready yet because while he was quite aware of himself now, Jonathan hadn't really quite accepted it yet. He was feeling quite overwhelmed, and it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. There are just too many emotions swirling around in his head all at once. He just needed to breathe.
"Everything's perfect."
Days and weeks passed, and Jonathan and Steve were still in this dance that neither one would mention. Nancy now knew they were friends but had yet to see them flirt or notice the way they talked about each other. Nancy was happy to be a part of Steve’s life again, but she missed Jonathan, and she felt less alone in knowing that she wasn't the only one. Currently, Nancy was leaning against the counter, talking to Steve while Robin put away inventory.
"I don't know, Steve, I just feel like there's something he's keeping from me. Do you have any idea what it could be?" Nancy asked.
"No, and even if I did know, I'm not going to be the kind of friend who goes blabbing to the girlfriend," Steve said. "There's a code, Nance."
"What if I did this?" Nancy asked as she inflated her eyes and poked out her bottom lip.
"Those powers of yours don't work on me anymore," Steve said, lying.
"He just seems troubled about something," Nancy said with a sigh.
"Maybe it's the fact that he's miles away from you, and he doesn't know how to say just how much he misses you. You know Jonathan, he's better with the camera than he is with words," Steve said.
"Well, he hasn't actually picked up the camera in a while. Too busy smoking weed with his new friend Argyle," Nancy said.
"Maybe he needs to find a balance. Photography and spending time with Argyle," Steve said and tried to keep the jealousy out of his voice.
"Maybe he's just blocked creatively. . .that happens sometimes, right?" Robin asked..
Nancy huffed and rolled her eyes. Steve wasn't sure what it was, but Nancy seemed to have a problem with Robin.
"Maybe," Nancy begrudgingly agreed.
"Well, maybe I can talk to him and get him to talk to you. . .gently, you know?" Steve said. "But if he says he's not ready to talk about whatever ever is bothering him then - "
"I'll back off, I swear!" Nancy exclaimed and then paused. "You don't think maybe he doesn't love me anymore, do you?"
"What? No! That would be crazy! Our boyfriend's an idiot but he's not that stupid," Steve said.
"What did you just say?" Nancy asked.
"I said Jonathan's an idiot but he's not that stupid," Steve said.
"That's not what you said. You said: "Our boyfriend's an idiot," Nancy said.
"What? No, I didn't!" Steve exclaimed.
"Yes, you did!" Nancy yelled.
"No, I didn't!"
"Yes, you did!"
"Robin, tell her," Steve said.
Robin froze like a deer in headlights as she cradled the tapes against her chest. She glanced at Nancy and then at Steve.
"You. . ." Robin started to say but looked at Steve for a moment, and her head snapped down to her watch free wrist. "Oh, would you look at the time. . .it's my lunch break!"
Robin dropped the tapes and ran right into the break room.
"See! You did say it!" Nancy asked.
"That doesn't prove anything! Robin is always squirrelly," Steve scoffed.
"You said it. I heard it. Robin heard it," Nancy smirked. "You called Jonathan our boyfriend."
"Hey, I mean, it's technically true. He's a boy, and he's my friend," Steve said, blushing. "You're never going to let me live this down. Are you?"
"Never," Nancy laughed.
Steve appreciated the fact that Nancy thought it was just a slip of the tongue. He wasn't ready to admit her about anything else his feelings for both her and Jonathan. How could he ever explain that? So, he let the bit go on for a while. . .up until the spring break from hell. Everything was perfect, Steve was on the cusp of revealing his feelings to both Jonathan and Nancy when shit hit the fan. He saved up money, working extra shifts, doing what his father asked of him, and then he was going to surprise Nancy with two plane tickets to Lenora. Of course, Chrissy Cunningham died, Eddie got pinned for the murders, but the real culprit was a new monster from the Upside Down. . .or rather an old one. Now, here he was, in Max's kitchen, trying to fix his bandages and trying not to cry over the image of almost losing Nancy.
"Hey, man, you alright?" Eddie's voice startled him.
"Yeah, yeah, all good," Steve said, adjusting his bandages and wincing when he decided to pat his stomach.
"Clearly, seeing Wheeler like that shook you up," he said. "Maybe I was right before."
Eddie's words sprang into his head again, and they kept spinning around in there.
". . .unambiguous sign of true love that these cynical eyes have ever seen. . ."
"You weren't wrong. . .about me anyway," Steve said. "I don't know about Nancy."
"She didn't waste a second going in there," Eddie said.
"That's just who she is," he said.
"Maybe, but Dustin told me about how she infiltrated the lab. . .stormed the gates of hell to get justice for her friend, Barb. . .she loved her, too. Maybe risking her neck out for people she doesn't know is something she does, but she's just as determined to do it for the people she loves. . .man, she's my new favorite superhero," Eddie grinned.
"Mine too," Steve blushed and paused. "It's complicated. . . She's still dating Jonathan Byers."
"So, he's all the way out in California, right? You're the one that's here," Eddie said, and Steve gave him a look. "Well, you're a better man than I am."
Steve glanced down at the hanky in his pocket. After his awakening and coming out to Robin, they had both been determined to find out any information they could find. They took off during Christmas break and traveled up to Indianapolis as well as Chicago. Steve smiled as he remembered the little bar in Chicago they had found, tucked away from everything else practically. This nice young woman who explained the hanky code to him before proceeding to make out with his best friend. It had been the best Christmas for the both of them.
"It's complicated because - " Steve started to say.
"Steve?" Nancy's voice spoke from the doorway.
Steve jumped, his heart practically leaping into his throat.
"Nancy? Are you okay?" Steve asked.
"I should be asking you that," Nancy said.
"I think it's safe to say that none of us are okay," Eddie replied.
"Are your bites hurting you?" Nancy asked, and he didn't say anything. "Steve?"
"Yeah, okay, they hurt like a bitch," Steve winced.
"We need to put some medicine on it and re bandage the wounds," Nancy said.
"I think I saw a first aid kit under the sink," Eddie said and bent down to retrieve it. "Here you go."
"Help me?" Nancy asked, and he nodded.
Steve shrugged off the vest and handed it Eddie. Nancy grinned at him and giggled.
"What?"
"I know who you reminded of in Eddie's vest," Nancy said. "Tom Cruise from the Outsiders minus the teeth, of course."
"Really. . .you know, I always thought Tom Cruise was hot in that," Steve said, and Eddie nearly choked on his own saliva.
"Yeah, me too, especially with the tattoo," Nancy said as she took off his bandages. "You should get a tattoo."
"Yeah, what would I get?" Steve asked. "Your name?"
"Oh, yeah, our boyfriend would love that," Nancy giggled.
"What?!" Eddie exclaimed, his eyes comically wide.
"It was slip of the tongue," Steve explained, and Eddie didn't ask any questions.
Nancy put the bandages on him, wrapping her arms around him as she did so. She stood on her tippy toes to whisper in his ear.
"I think you and I both know that it stopped being a joke a long time ago," Nancy whispered, and it took everything in him not to shudder. "We're going to get out of this, Steve, and we're going to see our boyfriend again. Our boyfriend."
She made sure the road rash wounds were cleaned thoroughly before patching them up as well. She kissed his cheek, put the vest back on, and went off towards the bathroom. Steve leaned against the kitchen counter, wondering if she really meant that.
"It's complicated because I'm also in love with her boyfriend," Steve said.
"Shit! Okay, yeah, I didn't see that coming," Eddie said with wide eyes. "Wait, I know we've been through hell together, but why are you telling me this?"
"I thought that maybe you might be a little safer than others," he replied.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because, you know. . .do you really want me to say it?" Steve asked.
"Yeah!"
"You're, you know. . .the hanky," Steve whispered.
"You mean this one?" Eddie asked, pulling it out of his back pocket. "It's just something I wear because I saw another heavy metal guitarist wearing one just like it."
"Oh. . .oh, shit," Steve said, and then he laughed. "Sorry, man, I thought you were like me."
"Nah, those are just rumors," Eddie said, flashing his dimples. "I never tried to deny them, though. They hated it when I acted all flattered and not like it was an insult, which it isn't."
"Thanks, man," Steve smiled.
"So, when did you know that it wasn't just girls?" Eddie asked.
"One day, Nancy and Jonathan just walked into Family Video. . .I looked into his eyes, and I just knew. I realized then it wasn't just Jonathan that I noticed. I looked at guys and girls over the years, checking out every bit of them. . .with my eyes glancing at their lips and the way their clothes fit and wondering what's under them. . .what they look like and what they would feel like," Steve said. "It hit me all at once."
"Wait. . .does everyone not do that?" Eddie asked.
"Uh, no, dude, they most certainly do not," Steve said.
"Oh. . .OH!" Eddie exclaimed and paused. "So, it's not normal to be a little into ot when you kiss your guys friends?"
"Normal, yes. Straight? Hell no," Steve laughed and slapped his shoulder.
"They were fucking right," he breathed and paused again. "Oh shit, okay. . . I feel like half gay isn't the proper term. . ."
"Bisexual," Steve said. "Only if you prefer labels."
"Okay, okay," Eddie rubbed his face and pushed his bangs up.
"You okay over there?" Steve asked.
Eddie leaned against the counter, his whole body relaxing as he exhaled. He smiled.
"Yeah. . .so, are you going to tell them how you feel?" Eddie asked him.
"I don't know," Steve said. "I mean, I had plans before, you know, but everything is so messed up now. . ."
"If you don't take the chance now. . .you'll might not get another, especially with everything that's happening now," he said and sighed. "I had so many chances to get to know her. . .but I thought she was like every other popular person who hated me . . . Then she surprised me, and we had this one moment, then she was gone. Life is short, man. Don't let your insecurities get in the way."
"Yeah, that's true," Steve said. "You're pretty smart for a third time senior."
"Fuck off," Eddie said laughing. "You're pretty great for a jock. I was glad I was wrong that all jocks are the same. . . I think I'm starting to like being proven wrong."
"Thanks, Eddie," Steve said softly.
"Anything for my fellow bisexy," Eddie winked at him.
"No! No! Absolutely not!" Steve exclaimed and Eddie laughed.
It was that moment with Eddie, that moment in the Upside Down too, that Steve clung to after he died. His words echoed in his head after Max was put into a coma, and the Upside Down came to Hawkins. He held onto them even after all that and tried not to think about Nancy's face when he told her how he felt. He tried not to think about Dustin's face when he told them that Eddie had died. Steve tried to desperately cling to the hope that the metalhead had left him with, that Robin continued to drill into them. He tried not to think about Nancy's worried expression and the words that they would talk whenever they saw Jonathan again.
He showed up two days later when they were gathering donations for the 'earthquake' relief that they were holding at the high school. A yellow pizza van pulled up, squealing loudly. Will, El, a man with long hair, and Jonathan spilled out of the vehicle. Steve watched as Jonathan and Nancy ran toward each other, Jonathan twirling her around in his arms. Steve smiled softly, watching them for a moment. Before he knew it, Jonathan was grabbing him and pulling him into the hug. No one else was looking, too busy hugging each other. Everything else seemed to fade into nothingness for a moment, blurry shapes in the background as Steve pulled back to look at them.
"Our boyfriend's home," Nancy said softly.
"What?" Jonathan asked.
"Slip of the tongue," Steve blushed.
"It was an accident then, but I think Jonathan needs to know if you mean it now," Nancy said.
"Do you mean it?" He asked Steve.
"Yes," he said. "Yeah, definitely. I love you. . .both of you."
Suddenly, Jonathan is crashing his lips to his. . .in front of everyone. Steve didn't care about that, though. All he cared about was the fact that Jonathan was kissing him, and Nancy was with them. . .in between them. He smirked as he kissed Jonathan back when Nancy let out a delightful gasp. Dustin shrieked.
"OH MY GOD!"
Steve quickly broke the kiss with Jonathan to look at everyone. They were all staring at him in shock. . .everyone except Robin and the man he assumed was Argyle. They were both grinning.
"What?" Steve asked. "I'm welcoming our boyfriend home."
"I thought that was just a joke!" Dustin exclaimed.
"It never was," Steve smirked. "Not really."
"Oh. . .and everyone involved is okay with this?" He asked.
"Well, I was the one who kissed him, so, yeah," Jonathan grinned.
"I'm definitely okay with this," Nancy said.
"I'm happy for all of you," Dustin said.
Dustin did look happy, but it killed Steve to see that there wasn't the same light in his eyes as before. It was tinged with sadness, and he could tell that Dustin was trying his hardest to be happy right now, but they were down a member, and it was difficult for him not to feel that. Steve pulled himself away from his partners and hugged Dustin tightly. The guy he had come to love like a brother was in so much pain right now, and he would give anything to fix it. Anything.
"Thanks, man," Steve said.
"I love you," he said. "You're my brother."
His heart clenched at those words. He loved hearing that but at the same time, they sounded so sad.
"I love you, too," Steve replied.
Steve pulled a way from the hug and ruffled Dustin's curls. He turned to find his partners being hugged by both their siblings. In this moment, his group of friends felt more like a family than his own parents ever did. They were going to face this thing together, and looking at them now, he felt like they could really accomplish something.
Two weeks later. . .
Steve’s vision was fading, the edges going dark as he tried to stay awake. He could feel his own blood in his hands. . .at his sides. . .just when his bites were starting to heal. He coughed, and now he could feel blood in his throat. Nancy and Jonathan were by his sides, crying.
"Stay with us, Steve! Please!" Nancy screamed.
"Steve!" Jonathan cried. "Come on, no, don't close your eyes!"
"Tired," Steve gasped.
Nancy was kissing him. Doesn't she care that she was going to get blood on her lips? Jonathan didn't either, apparently, because he kissed him too. Suddenly, he heard more footsteps. Joyce and Hopper's face swam above him, their faces pale blurry shapes.
"Let's get him in the van, hurry!" Hopper yelled.
Hands reached for him, and everything went dark. The last thing he saw was a large winged creature flying overhead. Did it have Eddie's face? Memories of his life swam before him. . .memories of playing with his nannies. . .meeting Tommy. . .joining the basketball team, the swim team, the baseball team. . .hoping each time his parents would be there to cheer him on. Then came the memories of meeting Nancy, falling for her, and the dreaded memories that came after. Her smile and her voice called to him like a beacon along with Jonathan's. He remembered getting to know Dustin, getting to Robin, and realizing that there's more love in this world than just romantic love. . .he wasn't alone anymore. He had a family. The kids and everyone else. Suddenly, he was standing in a forest. . .a mixture of green and brown swirled around him. Nancy and Jonathan stood holding hands in a clearing.
"I like trees," Jonathan whispered, his voice echoing in the empty forest.
A demogorgon stood behind them, and Steve started running towards them, trying to call out. He wasn't moving, though, and he couldn't speak either. Just as the demogorgon jumped on them, Steve woke up. A bright light overhead nearly blinded him, and suddenly, people surrounded him and pulled something out of his throat. Oh, he was in a hospital. . .hopefully. He glanced at the doctor trying to talk to him, but everything turned black again. When he woke up, he was a little more alert this time. His eyes landed on two people in the corner of the room. Eddie and Chrissy?
"Oh god, am I dead?" Steve asked.
Eddie laughed, and Chrissy giggled into his shoulder.
"No, you're very much alive," Eddie said.
"Then what the fuck?" Steve asked.
Dustin appeared at Eddie's side and into Steve’s view. He launched into the story of how Eddie (now a vampire) and Vecna's victims (who weren't actually dead) had helped El save the day. The gates were closed, and Vecna was no more. Steve hung onto every word, smiling at the light, though a little dim, was now back in Dustin's eyes. When Dustin finished telling him, he burst into tears and threw himself into Steve’s neck. Steve groaned.
"Careful, Dustin," Eddie said.
"No, man. It's alright, worth it," Steve smiled and carefully wrapped an arm around his brother.
After Dustin finished crying, he pulled back and wiped his eyes. Eddie patted him on the back.
"I'm glad you're okay," Dustin sniffled, and then he gasped. "Oh, shit! I need to tell Nancy and Jonathan! They've been back and forth between your room and Max's room. She's awake, by the way! I'm going to go get them!"
Dustin paused for a moment as if he was thinking about staying before shaking his head and rushing out of the room.
"He's never going to leave our side, man," Eddie said. "Not that I'm complaining."
"It's cute. He's happy you guys are alive," Chrissy said.
Steve grinned and laughed when he saw the markings on Eddie's neck.
"Is that a hickey, Eddie?" Steve said teasingly.
"I did that!" Chrissy said proudly.
"She went after me harder than the bats did," Eddie said, flashing his dimples.
"I can't help it if you're so yummy," Chrissy said, wrapping her arms around his waist and pulling him to her.
Eddie moved his arm behind her and tugged her closer, brushing his nose with hers. Chrissy giggled softly.
"Not as yummy as you are," Eddie said and paused. "Wait, is that still cute to say coming from a vampire?"
"Yes," Chrissy laughed.
The door burst open. Nancy and Jonathan came running in, breathing heavily. Nancy burst into tears and threw herself at him, climbing in beside him. Steve groaned again and laughed, wrapping an arm around her. Nancy pulled back a little.
"Oh! Did I hurt you?" Nancy asked.
"A little, so worth it," Steve said.
Nancy laughed. She began kissing his face all over, and finally, she landed on his lips, kissing him deeply. Steve smiled even though he could taste her salty tears on his lips. Nancy broke the kiss, letting Jonathan in to do the same, his own tears intermingling with Nancy's.
"We love you," Jonathan said softly.
"Love you too," Steve said weakly and cleared his throat.
"You're an asshole, though. That demogorgon was coming for me," Jonathan said.
"Cute boys make people do stupid things," Steve replied. "You're so worth it."
Jonathan started crying again and kissed him, running his fingers through his hair.
"Uh, we're just going to go and give you a few moments," Eddie said with a grin. "Glad you're alive, Steve."
Steve peered over Jonathan's shoulder to match Eddie's grin. He walked out the door with Chrissy. Clearly, they were going to make out or judging by the way that Chrissy pinched Eddie's ass on the way out, they were going to fuck. Steve smiled and buried his head into Nancy's hair.
"You know, I think there's room enough for you too," Steve said to Jonathan.
"I'm not risking pulling on anything," he said, and Steve laughed.
Jonathan rolled his eyes and plopped down in the chair next to Steve’s bed. He took his hand hand in his before taking Nancy's other one.
"It's okay, Jonathan's new bed is big enough for both of us," Nancy said.
Steve opened his mouth to say something when the door burst open, and Robin came running in with Vickie. Dustin was breathing heavily behind them.
"I tried - I tried to stop her," Dustin gasped.
"You're awake! You have no idea how scared I was. The thought that I would never see my best friend again. . . You are a sacrificial idiot! How many times do we have to go through this? You're important, too!" Robin yelled and burst into tears.
"I'm sorry," Steve said softly.
Jonathan moved out of the way and let Robin hug Steve carefully. Robin pulled back to stand at the edge of the bed with Vickie.
"You're not allowed to do that again," Robin sniffled and then paused. "Did I interrupt something?"
"No, you're good," Jonathan said.
Steve looked at the shirt Robin was wearing and then at Vickie. He tried to hide the knowing smile on his face, but apparently, it was pretty evident.
"Oh my God! He knows!" Vickie blurted out with wide eyes. "Although, I don't think I really care that he knows, unless you do, of course, Robin. How does he know, though?"
"He knows about me, and now they know about me. . .I think. Did I tell you guys or just think about telling you guys?" Robin asked, pointing to Nancy and Jonathan. "Do you really not care if they know about us?"
"If you trust them, so do I," Vickie said. "Besides, if they can keep something like this a secret then anything is possible."
"Wait, how did you know about me and Vickie?" Robin asked.
"Well, first off, you're wearing a pink shirt that's definitely not yours, and Vickie's wearing the shirt that I let you borrow that you never gave back," Steve said.
Vickie and Robin looked down, cursing when they saw he was right.
"Is that what you were doing in the on call room? Switching shirts?" Dustin asked.
"No, buddy. We were not," Robin said, slapping his shoulder. "We're dating."
"OH! Is that why you wouldn't date Steve?" Dustin asked.
"Hi, I'm Robin Buckley, permanent resident in the lesbian department," she said, wiggling her fingers at him.
"Nancy, you told me Steve and Robin had dated!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"I thought they had!" Nancy exclaimed defensively. "I know now that they are strictly platonic."
"Wait, were you both jealous of Robin?" Steve asked, and they blushed. "Well, that's cute."
"It's okay, I was jealous of Steve at one point," Vickie said.
"You were?" Robin asked.
"I had this whole plan where I would send back Fast Times to Family Video, hoping Robin would somehow notice that I had paused it at a specific moment, letting her know that I liked women. Of course, I overhead Steve and Robin talking their relationship to the next level. . .they wanted to get married! I didn't know they were talking platonically. Without even thinking, I got back together with Dan. Even though he was an asshole, he's still a person with feelings, you know. . .I can't believe it, but as it turns out, he was using me too. . .so, no hard feelings, I guess. My head was just spinning. . .you make my head spin," Vickie sighed. "I'll stop talking. . ."
"Don't you dare, I could listen to you talk forever," Robin said.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
Vickie squealed, stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around Robin's neck, and kissed her deeply. Robin sighed against her mouth, smiling into the kiss. Dustin grinned as he moved past them to stand on the other side of Steve’s bed.
"They are so cute," Dustin said. "Hey, I saw Eddie and Chrissy go into the on call room. . .you think they're going to "switch shirts" too?"
"Definitely," Steve snorted.
"I don't think so, I saw Argyle and Eden go in there after them," Vickie said, breaking her kiss with Robin for a moment before continuing.
"Eden?" Steve asked.
"Suzie's sister. Suzie and her family came down to help when they heard about the earthquake," Dustin said. "OH! I should bring her here to meet you! She's been dying to. . . Wait, hold on, you don't think that they're all switching shirts in there?"
"Argyle is a very. . .loveable person, and he doesn't deny it either," Jonathan laughed. "I wouldn't put it past him. Eddie is his type."
"How would that even work. . .those beds are very small. . .WAIT, WHY AM I THINKING ABOUT THIS?" Dustin yelled. "Eddie's my brother! Gah! SUZIE!"
They all laughed as they watched him storm out of the room. Vickie and Robin had finally broken the kiss. Robin's arms were wrapped around her waist, supporting her on her tiptoes, as Vickie trailed her fingers up Robin's arms. They beamed at each other.
"I think we're going to find another room," Robin said. "Glad you're alive, Steve!"
She took Vickie's hand, and they left the hospital room, giggling. Steve smiled after they left, staring at the doorway they left through. Everything was falling into place for everyone. . .including Steve. . .he could believe it. . . They had won. He looked at Nancy and Jonathan. Nancy's eyes twinkled as though she guessed what he was thinking.
"Can you believe we're here now?" Nancy asked.
"No," Steve said. "But also, yes."
"You know, this could have been the solution to our problem back then," Jonathan said.
"Don't dwell on that," Nancy said.
"We're here now," Steve said.
"We just - made things so complicated," Jonathan said.
"Well, they're not complicated now, and we have all the time in the world," Nancy said. "We have more time."
"Yeah," Jonathan grinned.
Steve laughed. He doesn't know why he was laughing, but it suddenly bursts out of him. He was so deliriously happy.
"Steve?"
"Everything's. . .perfect."

He was crossing through a nature park on the way to stop off at the store, and there you were sitting on a bench and watching your pet play around in the grass, smiling. It took him a second to place how he remembered you, but he knew the curve of your smile like the back of his hand. He had so many feelings so fast- he missed you, he wanted to call out for you, to catch up with you, hear everything about your life since school- and they were all put to a halt by the lump in his throat. He quickly looked around, trying to make sure there wasn't anyone near him that'd see him potentially break down in the middle of the path, and when he looked back, you were staring at him wide eyed. He was so, so scared that you were scared of him.
"Toby?"
Your voice called out to him, it had obviously dropped since the last time you two had talked and it sent waves of butterflies over him. He nervously smiled, and when you realized you were right and smiled brightly back, it turned into you both laughing, which turned into him excitedly running over to you. You stood up to greet him, but you clearly weren't expecting the amount of energy toby had for you- his tight hug almost knocked the both of you to the ground. You wrapped your arms around him as best you could with his handle on you, and laughed at his excitement and at just how happy you were to see him- you had so many questions and you were so worried, but above everything you were just happy to see your best friend again.
His grip loosened, and without thinking his hands settled on your lower back, trying to keep you as close as possible. You could feel his hands twitching as you excitedly asked him what he'd been up to, his eyes suddenly avoiding your gaze as he gave you a vague "just,,,yyknow stu-stuff and things- rreal busy, you?" he flashed you lopsided smile, but he couldn't push away all of his thoughts. What would you think of him if he told you? If you found out, saw him on the news, what would you even say? Can you tell? Is he creeping you out right now? Is he-
You interrupted his train of thought with resting your hands on his forearms, his eyes immediately shooting to watch your movements as you spoke, "not too much,, i missed you though. have you been okay, Tobes? i was worried about you" you laughed nervously at that last bit, but the nickname struck a cord with him as the lump in his throat made itself clearer now. He was fighting down tears as he remembered all the times he'd come over, the time spent together being stupid and passing notes in class, everything the two of you did that was taken from him because there was so much cruelty in his life. His neck cracked to the side in an anxious tic, he tried to write it off as he gave you what was meant to be a genuine smile, but came off as more so pleading as he shakily said, "i mmissed you too."
Your brows furrowed slightly in concern, but your pet jumped up in between the two of you before you were able to ask any questions. Toby crouched down to pet them, but still kept his eyes on you. They pawed at the leash you held in your hand, trying to get you to understand they were ready to go home, no matter how much you weren't. You flashed Toby a look of apology and muttered a quiet "It looks like they're ready to go," as you clipped the leash to their collar; the both of you standing back up you looked at each other with a sense of longing. Neither of you understood what the other had gone through since the last time you'd seen each other, and it didn’t feel fair. None of this felt fair. But you both knew that, that there was too much between you now to patch up. He wanted to speak, he wanted to say something- tell you everything that you had meant to him back then, how much you still did. You had been his safe haven before he left, and he wanted nothing more than to have experienced a normal life in that moment. Looking at you felt like he was looking at everything he could have had, and he could hardly take it. He swallowed thickly before he gave you his best smile that he could muster and said a quiet thank you, that it was good seeing you, and squeezed your hand before the two of you walked your separate ways. It didn’t feel right, it wasn’t right. Talking to you, touching you, it brought color back to his face in such an authentic way he hadn’t been able to properly replicate in so long. He trudged his way along the rest of his path, convincing himself it wouldn’t be fair to drag you into what his life is. You didn’t deserve this, you didn’t deserve to deal with him- and he didn’t think he’d ever get over that loss.
