If I had a nickel for every time Santiago Cabrera played a character on a BBC show who was a noble, loyal and highly skilled knight/soldier, who served the king, was a hopeless romantic with only one or two main love interests, the Queen being one of his love interests who he an affair with, leading to life-altering long-term consequences, for both him and the Queen, I’d have two nickels.

Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I’m not even mad, BBC writers were either onto something or on something when they wrote Lancelot and Aramis.

on the point of including black people in the show (or any period show), a lot of the outrage can sometimes come across as performative to me. it's one thing to feel upset about how little screentime black characters get compared to white characters (a valid criticism, believe me, I Know! give me an hour and i could talk your ear off about how this constantly annoys me as a black person who's damned to enjoy period pieces), but it's another to Only get upset while not actually creating content for said black characters, Especially when fandom (not just hbo war, but in general) is famous for taking Extremely minor characters and creating entire worlds with them, to the point where you wouldn't know they're minor characters at all until you check out the source yourself. richard macon, alexander jefferson, and robert daniels each have only 20 or less posts about them (at the time of publishing this post). in my own fandom experience (within fandoms both big and small and old and new, whatever), i've seen more content (posts, art pieces, analyses, fics, etc) made for minor white characters in less than a mere week's time (it's not a competiton lol i'm just giving a perspective here). so idk. obviously, there's nothing anyone here can do about a show that's already been filmed and released. we got what we got. thas it. at least in the great wide world of fandom, you can actually do something about it, turning the big into small. there's precedent for that. otherwise it just feels like complaining for the sake of complaining

thinking about how alicent is the only person who tells rhaenys she should have been queen without having something to gain from doing so. sure, corlys says rhaenys should have been queen, but we see again and again that power is his top priority and rhaenys has got to know that if it didn't bring corlys personal gain, there's no saying he would believe that. sure, her children have probably told her that, but again it's difficult to divorce that from the power they would have gained.

for alicent, it's entirely the opposite. she would have less power if rhaenys had become queen, because her husband would be a prince instead of king. and yet.

and yet.

i just think it's very telling. i mean, eve best also point blank says the same thing, so it's not just me. she says this makes rhaenys "look at alicent for probably the first time." it makes rhaenys "take alicent seriously." it makes her "quite impressed by [alicent's] strength and tenacity." it makes her see that alicent is "remarkable."

also, did anyone else find episodes 9 and 10 to be not as emotional as the crew said that it was? like it was pretty moving, yeah but compared to other Adventure Time episodes not so much. i definitely wouldn't call them the series's most emotional episodes.

I mean it when I say that they’re literally the sole reason I watched this show in the first place. I saw a billion TikTok edits of them & was like “Idek these characters I need to watch this show and see what’s going on over there.”

And like, it’s a fun show, I’m not saying it isn’t, but first responder shows are a dime a dozen. There are other shows that have queer characters and found family and wild adventures. Granted, they don’t have Buck & his bi arc, but I’d still read fanfics to get my Evan Buckley fix lol.

I don’t need them right now, I’m so down for the slow burn, will-they-won’t-they & the pining & the yearning & the build up and the GOOD foundation. I want to see Eddie figuring himself out and dealing with his repression and figuring out he’s queer (& Demi, pls God. I hope if I just say it enough, I can will it into existence somehow) before anything happens with the two of them, but if they take definitive steps to have one of them like, marry someone else or something, I think I’m gonna head out. Find me on ao3 for the rest of my days lol.

Been watching Pit Babe with my best friend and the following have been my favorite parts

Having to pause so that we can laugh/discuss the nonexistent woman, nonexistent omegas, and how enigmas can get anyone knocked up 😅

YEAH. This entire show has been a character study and then in the last 2 episodes they didn’t really focus on um. the. characters? Bro why was so much of that a scarab fight scene 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Fionna & cake’s very interesting interpersonal conflict is just kind of Over. the cause (fionna worrying about cake’s safety because that’s her CAT vs cake being excited about her independence and feeling like she can take care of herself) is not mentioned again, and the most recent direct subject (making the world magical and changing everyone vs keeping it as it is but cake is either out of place or has to lose her independence) turns out to be kind of a moot point. Everyone just,. Gets what they want. There’s not any like. Emotionally resounding resolution to Fionna’s arc of trying to be a hero, being a hero wrong, being upset that she’s doing it wrong, feeling like she messes everything up, it’s just not. like. revisited. properly.

simon is. head in my fuckinfg hands. All they did was directly explain things anyone who was paying attention already knows!!!! This is the most surface level version of this!!!!! That man clearly has some Deep Seated Issues and they basically just go. Yep he definitely has emotional problems! in a way more simple and straightforward way than they have ever done so far. But now he’s. Fine! And any underlying causes or deeper nuances or further angles are Not Worth Addressing In This Show! Let’s just move on!
