I think that’s it? maybe im missing one more?#but I’m 99.99999% sure they’re all voiced by the original voice actors#so it’s just super fun to play and hear their lines#jake says ‘finnnnnn when can we go get something to eat??’#and bubblegum has a super bitchy line like ‘can I HELP you? 🙄’#and they have levels all over the adventure time world#they have the monkeys too cause I’m pretty sure the original bloom defense has monkeys#oh oh and they have trinkets and weapons and stuff from the show!#it’s just all super cute#for someone who is obsessed with adventure time it’s just a feel good game#the thing that irritates me is there’s this thing called the Martian throne#and you can play against other real people#and whoever gets the highest level gets the throne and if you get it and sit on it you get coins#and this lobby this FUCKER keeps getting to lvl 40 and I can’t get passed 39#I was SO CLOSE#but couldn’t and im mad :(#lol it’s fine really not that big of a deal it’s just annoying when you spend a lot of time on something and YOU WERE SO CLOSE#like yea I could try again but that’s another 30+ min#and most likely I’ll lose again so fuck it#ok anyway if you like adventure time and especially if you like Bloons I’d recommend it#oh and there’s allies from the show too so I have ghost princess and slime princess and abracadaniel#I was rewatching the show and I saw an allie from the game that I didn’t remember on the show and I was like OH HEY ITS YOU#1000000/10 highly recommend

Well, until Luke spoke up again. “If I tell you something, promise me you won’t get mad?” I look up at him questionably, “I can’t promise that.” He takes in a needed breath before speaking. “Jack told Quinn.” He speaks out quickly. “Told him what?” My eyes widen. “About what happened, Jack told Quinn he highly recommend.” Luke laughs softly. I shake my head and press it back into his chest.

So what are your thoughts on the second AK x R6 Collab? Do you look forward to it?
Personally, I'm a little sad my boys Wamai, Jager, Glaz, etc didn't make the cut, nor any of the Nighthaven crew like Osa and Kali. This makes sense (HG's approach is basically isekaing the Rainbow crew into Arknights and passing them off as funny aliens in a world of animal people rather than using any Rainbow Six storylines, which is probably for the better), I'm just a little sad that among the new batch the only character I actually play often enough to call a main is Fuze.
That being said, I'm looking forward to it. Originium Dust was one of my favorite AK events, and I really liked how HG translated the R6 characters into its tower defense gameplay, they showed some real creativity along with a weirdly specific understanding of Siege memes (such as the Rainbow ops calling Tachanka, Lord Tachanka, which is not something that's canon to R6S that's an in-joke the players have because Tachanka is a terribly weak but beloved and fun character).

What makes me confident they'll bring that same creativity to translating their FPS gameplay into Arknights is that they made Doc an Instructor Guard. Like, holy shit, it takes a great understanding of Siege to see a medic character whose special skill is that he heals people and then NOT make him a Medic in AK.
Do you know why Doc's an Instructor Guard despite being a medic? Because when you actually see a Doc in a match of R6 Siege, they don't sit behind their allies pumping them with heals every time they take damage. You only have limited healing darts, and you can heal people at full HP to overheal. No. When you're fighting a Doc, you see him grab a partner (usually Rook), jamming them full of heals while their health is full to overdose on their HP, then healing HIMSELF to overdose his HP, and then both of them run out of cover guns blazing to kill as many Attackers as they can before they are blown to hell.
HG understands that well enough that instead of making him a medic, they make him the Guard class that sits behind another unit, buffing them but also meant to do DPS. That's fantastic, I am completely sure someone at HG remains a dedicated Siege player to this day.
Plus, I do love that the Free units on both R6S events are notoriously terrible but fan-favorite characters. Before his rework in R6S, Tachanka sucked ass, and after his rework he still wasn't picked competitively all that much, but he HAD to be the star of the event because he's Lord Tachanka with an LMG that rips through everything and is incredibly satisfying to use. In the same vein, Fuze is infamous for LOSING more games for his team than winning, since his gadgets are bouncing cluster bombs that often kill his teammates, the hostage they're rescuing, or even himself sometimes while completely missing actual enemies. You pick this guy and it's halfway to a loss already, so you're either a god on Fuze, a madman, maybe both, and that's absolutely why he's the next free unit. Now all of AK can get to experience griefing themselves with Fuze RNG. Fuck yeah.

Yall I am being hit with a wave of nostalgia for a time that will (almost certainly) never exist again.
A lot of folks talk about the early days of the internet, before it was turned into a commodity, before everything had ads, when it was a tool to connect with other people, share passions, and also heavily unregulated. A place you could find almost anything, good or bad. And yeah, I miss that. A lot. It was a beautiful time. But I really wish I could truly explain to the folks that missed it, something that is often forgotten about, is how much online gaming has changed as well.
I'm thinking about the early days of Blizzard. Of Warcraft, Starcraft, and the beauty of Battle.Net. Of course there were other at the time, but I dont know of anything that was quite so popular.
This was a place where, if you had the game (whether obtained legally or not) you could just, go and play with other people. Sure, that exists now, but not in the same way. This wasnt just online matchmaking, or a way to find people to play with. It was an entire social platform where you could form groups, add friends, and find people who liked to play the same way as you. There were different channels for various interests. It was like a proto social media, specifically focused on connecting people who loved the game. And it was all free.
And thats just the tip of it. The custom game maps were unreal. Blizzard had included a completely free, easy to use map editor that allowed anyone to make a custom game type, transfer that map to anyone who wanted it, and play the game in completely new ways. Fan written campaign expansions, Cat & Mouse, Tower Defense, and so many more. I mean, hell, the reason that the entire genre of MOBA games exist is because of Frozen Throne and a dedicated team of folks making it.
Something like this just... Doesnt exist anymore. At least not in the same way. I keep thinking about why games like Warcraft & Starcraft are still to this day, 20+ years later, still so beloved. Its difficult to imagine a game that has come out in the last 10 years that will still be talked about and loved in another 10-20 years. The need for these companies to force every dollar out of you has taken away the ability for something like this to exist. And my god is that so sad.

Ever since I accidentally picked up and played DGS, I knew I needed to play PLVSPW. I decided to alternate playing ace attorney games with professor layton games until I finished the main trilogies for both and could finally play plvspw, and it was so worth the wait. I love this game so much it is everything I could have hoped and more, so so so much more. Highly recommend to honestly anyone!!!

Summary
This game is everything I hoped it would be. yes it's a Professor Layton crossover, but it also has the charm of DGS x Princess tutu x tunic. The ending was very layton-esque, along with all the reveals. I truly had such an amazing time playing this game. I was initially introduced to this because I heard that DGS was inspired by it, so it was my mission to play both aa and pl's original trilogies before playing. And I am so glad I did bc the wait was so worth it. You can absolutely see the influence this game and professor layton had on Shu Takumi. There's so much passion and creativity between plvspw an dgs that makes playing them all the more enjoyable. I loved how all the main characters interacted with each other, I especially loved how hershel and phoenix swapped assistants. The new characters were also so fun. Espella, Barnham, Darklaw, the story-teller, they were all so unique and enjoyable to interact with. The animation was stellar. This 3D style really works for both PL and AA and im so glad both series took inspiration from it. The music and art was phenomenal, this game honestly should win awards if it hasn't already done so. I also love how any character pulled into an aa game will have their gay moments: phoenix x hershel and espella x eve especially. I can't wait to make art or even write for this game, I will definitely add scenes from this to my ballet au ^^! What a phenomenal game, what a fun premise with the most convoluted layton-esque ending. It was so perfectly I highly recommend!!

*All the while they're talking, Mona pulls out large metallic containers of a glowing material. She then dumps them into the back of a transport vehicle and straps them down, safely and securely.

Each one of these tubs contains 5.6509861994738E+14 Joules of energy. That's equivalent to at least 135 Tons of TNT. Powering the PhoNe's up with these energy packs will give each one enough firepower to level a small town.

Just watched the gameplay trailer and...

Well, it's a lot like Path to Nowhere. Can't say I'm surprised, considering the unit placement and map layouts from all the trailers we've seen.
(More under the cut because we all know I'm the bitch who's more interested in the gameplay compared to other things-)
Some corrections regarding the symbols:
Angel wings are enemies remaining, paw prints are movement opportunities remaining.
Whatever that last icon is, it's supposed to be is your HP.
Two tilesets is real, but it's only used to indicate pathing.
There doesn't seem to be a distinction between low ground and high ground tiles - it's just the lighter tiles are the enemy paths, and you place units on lighter tiles if you want to block enemies.
The limits of the battlefield are the black picket fences along the edges!
But holy shit some of these abilities sound so fucking broken on paper, but the applications...

Marbas's skill, if handled properly, can act like Bard Supporters in Arknights. However, the healing seems to be very limited, at 1 HP per tick? How would it scale based on skill level and stats? Is 1 HP a lot for friendlies? At least it seems to be an infinite duration skill, so...

Paimon's slow is manual targeting. Personally I'm not a fan, or maybe it's because I think in the realm of tower defense, Suzuran is a slower done right. Or Snow Peas. These sorts of units, in essence, slow enemies down so our units can burst them down easily. Which might be uh...let's just say, underutilized based on the DPS options we have down the line.
At this point, Paimon seems to play a lot like May, and even then May is more effective in slowing down enemies with her first skill.
Anyways, what in the fuck is going on here?

That 'Miss' in blue text. Is that a damage instance miss, an ailment miss, or something else? If it's a damage instance miss (which is what I think it is) then mygod I think I'm actually going to rage while playing this game. That is, unless it's due to a unit's passive - then for my own sanity I won't be using them, ever. Because hey, fellow Arknights players, remember these fuckers?

Yeah. Silence and freeze came in clutch, honestly. There's a reason why a lot of players would rather not deal with dodge enemies and just want to nuke them out of existence with true damage and status effects. Though to be fair it's the Nethersea Brand that makes Stultifera Navis a hard event/Intermezzi...
ANYWAYS! The next skill I'll be looking at is Eligos's skill.

That's a unique skill, honestly! Mechanically, it's most similar to Mlynar's second talent, which gives him innate Taunt (makes enemy ranged attacks target him when he's in their range) - except Mlynar is Broken Like That and has damage reflect while maintaining that the Talent is always active, all with respectable defenses and a sizable HP pool. Like Mlynar, depending on how much damage the enemy does on average and how strong Eligos's shield is, the skill can easily turn into a double-edged sword, however - in a much more dangerous way compared to Mlynar.
Think of it this way. It doesn't seem like WHB has a redeployment mechanic, as a similar "style" of tower defense with Path to Nowhere. Which means, if an ally is dead, then they stay dead for the entirety of the stage.
Compare that with Arknights, which allows retreating and redeployment.
Losing Texas the Omertosa on the battlefield wouldn't matter as much as losing Eligos, because I know I can still use Texas down the line. Plus, the Executor subclass is built around redeployment, making that mechanic necessary to use her properly. Same thing with me retreating Chen - her positioning wasn't the most optimal after clearing the treasure chest, and if the stage went on any longer I'd redeploy her in a more strategic position/direction. But I know this stage's mobs aren't particularly tanky, and Mountain with Sweeping Stance (S2) would be more than enough to hold that lane, with his 2-block + DPS + self-sustain.
These are the words of a chronic IS player.
Meanwhile, if I lost Eligos, then I'd lose a valuable blocker unit. He's a defender in WHB, and he definitely has more tanking capabilities. But that means you'll have to consider adding either a healer to keep him healed up or more DPS to kill off enemies before you lose said defender to continuous attacks.
The final three skills shown in the trailer all fall under the same category: burst damage over an area.

This is where I can say slowers might eventually be underutilized in WHB on launch. They work the best with consistent, large damage sources over a period of time. What do I mean by that? Well, let's take a look at Suzuran - specifically, her second passive.

Suzuran, in my opinion, reflects the most effective way a slower is used in tower defense. Not only does she slow enemies down, she inflicts them with a debuff that makes them take more damage (Fragile). This effect is doubled with her third skill Foxfire Haze, where she stops attacking - but her slow turns into an area of effect deal, heals allies, and has an increased range. She is oftentimes used in conjunction with damage dealers and an extra debuffer (optional, but typically Saria S3) with steady burst damage over a set period of time - SilverAsh, Surtr, Mlynar, Eyjafjalla, Mostima, and Exusiai, just to name a few.
Granted, she is a 6* unit (L rarity in WHB terms would likely be the closest approximation), but even then other Decel Binders (slowers like Suzuran) without the debuff application still has the 80% Slow on all enemies they attack, and has ways to increase their slowing and damage capabilities.
It's hard to see with how the battle is presented, but if Paimon's slow is only on skill proc, then him in conjunction with these DPS options would be the equivalent of using Decel Binders with Chiave/Pinecone - which isn't bad per se (unless you managed to stack charges - then it becomes good) but less effective compared to using, say, Pozëmka/Schwarz. And let's not forget that some of these characters have huge attack ranges (Satan and Gabriel specifically) - making the entire point of slowers more or less moot.
Also, it would seem that skills may inflict status ailments! Stun seems to work like in Arknights (enemy stops attacking and moving for a set period of time), but Bleed I will assume is a damage over time deal. Kinda like Blue Poison and Thorns's passives.
The final and arguably biggest gripe I have with what I see in the trailer, though?
Little to no potential for AFK gaming- //SHOT

Time to defeat the Black Knight!
I think it's weird that they included the line "if I were a swordfighter" here, considering that Mist can, in fact, wield a sword. Again, I'm sad that there aren't any magic damage dealing swords in Radiant Dawn, because Mist wielding the Sonic Sword makes her a terror on the battlefield.

I was so nervous starting this map. My Ike was lagging behind in terms of HP and defense, so I knew that defeating the Black Knight wasn't going to be easy.

However, getting to to the Black Knight proved to be a piece of cake. I had Kieran, Oscar, Nephenee, and Reyson tackle the left side of the room, and had Jill, Mist, Mia, and Ilyana tackle the right, with Ike and Soren heading straight down the middle. Soren was a beast, dodging every incoming attack and triggering adept on every other enemy.

As much as I love Path of Radiance, I kind of hate this trope, where the hero has to face the big bad on their own, as a part of their character arc. Like... for what purpose? Teamwork makes the dream work, or so they say.

At the very least, they should allow Soren to follow Ike, so long as they have reached A-rank in their support. I really missed having that nice avoid bonus during the BK fight.

I do wonder, was this on purpose or an accident? The Black Knight seems too skilled to make this sort of mistake, but for what purpose would he promise a swift death to Ena, only to intentionally break that promise? Despite his villainy, he's a man of his word, isn't he?

Okay, so here was how everything looked when I approached the Black Knight. It wasn't the worst odds, but man, I wasn't entirely confident, either.

Aaaaand, perhaps unsurprisingly, Ike almost immediately died to BK triggering Luna. And thus I was forced to do the entire map from the beginning...

On my second go at the Black Knight, Mist got this amazing level-up! Unfortunately, right after I took this screenshot, Ike again perished at the hands of the Black Knight...

On my third try, this particular line from BK seemed a little too on the nose. Determined not to die to another Luna, I gave Ike a seraph robe to increase his total HP, so he had a higher chance of survival.

Unfortunately, while I did perform better on my third try, I ran out of time. I spent a long time deliberating whether I wanted to try this battle again. On one hand, I just wanted to move onto the next chapter. But on the other hand, I really didn't want Nasir to die...
And so, with a heavy heart, I reset the game yet again.

Thankfully, the fourth try was a success! Ike managed to trigger an Aether on the third turn, slaying the Black Knight and by extension saving Nasir's life.
Whew!
This was definitely the most challenging chapter for me. However, I really wanted to defeat the Black Knight, mainly to keep Nasir alive. I don't even plan on using him, I just get sad thinking about Ena having to live in a world without her grandfather.
At least it's finally over.
Next up: The Twisted Tower!

i Miss DoTENBori
i really do. i know it's gotten cleaned up a lot from when i first got to Osaka in 2004, it's grimy charm brushed and burnished off, but it still had that undertone of scuzziness that said it could all come back if the city took the day off upkeep.

We talked about this one the Friday before last, and i still like it for it's frenetic crufting. Maybe not the most polished version of the theme that i've played, but it's got a lot of heart to it.

The precursor to Rescuing the Monster's Child that we reviewed last month. It's mostly a gallery to showcase that bigass monster, but at least some work got put in that department, which is more than you can say for most galleries. The monster itself is, well, i mean, it doesn't do much; i think at this point in LBP, folx were still working out how to get large contraptions to reliably stand up and manage limited movement. It's still impressive, and cute in its own way, and i could appreciate it. i'm pretty sure there was an intended flow to this level that i completely fucked up by going further back in layer than what would have been possible in LBP1. Ope.

This is an earlier level by the kid who did Hello Autumn! a few entries up, and it's definitely the weaker of the two in my books. It's got swimming, and it's quite rare that i find LBP swimming to be all that enjoyable as a traversal mechanic. The cameras tend to be overly pulled back, and it just feels slow moving all-around. Like Hello Autumn, it's overburdened wiv prizes, so that was going to make it a hard sell wiv me as well. It still has that charm of a level the creator really enjoyed making, tho'; and i can enjoy it on that level at least. Some creators can really bring that feeling to the front in their work.

It will always feel a little wild to me to think LBP generates its own intracommunity drama. i mean, on one level, any group of people larger than two members is going to pick up some drama over its lifespan, but it's still, like... it's LittleBigPlanet. But there was a contest, and our own wonderful chronos453 won it, and some folx got really cheesed off. chronos showed me a few of the comments from the time (i was blissfully ignorant of it, as i usually am until years after the fact), and this level here got put forward by a number of them as the level that really should have won. So, thought i, let's have a look. It's not bad. Like, i love the look of it. Well executed sticker panel visual presentation can be very slick looking. Usually when, as we see here, it's the exclusive or at least primary element in play (another great example is in chrono's Demo series, or the menus in his Tower Defense level. Gods and fish, those menus are actual fire). The problems creep in in the game itself. It's exceptionally ok. Like, i think it'd work really well as an early mobile game (that is not a dig, mobile games got shittier and shittier the more companies realized they could be turned into money engines that looked like games, as opposed to games that might happen to generate money, if you ask me). You've got a keep ship moving until you take enough damage and die gameplay loop that is, at least, easy to get into. i found it a little too simple to engage my interest more than a few tries, and it really wasn't something i would find myself going back to wivout need. And it's a shame, because you can tell a lot of work went into putting it together. i have no doubt that Gilinator was quite serious about the project, and put in the hours; but this is a good level, not a winning level.

Here's the winning level. Honestly, despite one significant flaw, it's one of the best, if not the best survival challenges i've played in 15years of LittleBigPlanet. Elegant, stylish presentation. Gameplay that requires the player to be active and paying attention throughout. Quick to get into, and quick to restart when you've messed up (a point crhonos mentioned being a particular focus in his design of the level). Like, people complained that that was too much of an homage, and not original enough; and i would invite them to go back to the survival challenge in the Metal Gear dlc pack and tell me if this is not an improvement on that in every department. You could argue, and fairly, if this should have been first place; there's always room for that kind of conversation. You cannot argue in good faith that this isn't a top-notch level. However, i did mention a significant flaw. It is not in anything that the level does wrong, or a failing on the part of chronos as a creator. It's the simple fact that, maybe not for everyone but at least for me, using the Paintinator really starts to hurt after a while. i wonder about the susceptibility of people to RSIs. Like, it can't be a 100% thing, or else they'd be more well designed for. There are millions of folx working cash registers that i imagine come home fine after work, but when i was a kid my friend up the block's mum wound up needing multiple surgeries to try and fix up her fucked up wrist after a couple years of "help make the ends meet" work at JC Penny's. i bring it up because, like, Mm must have playtested the Paintinator. Even if it was a dlc and not, like, the main game, they would have had a team working on it. And then QA after. Did no one say "hey, ummm... my wrist kinda felt like it was on fire after the Metal Gear Rex fight"? And maybe they didn't, or maybe it was just one or two folx who complained, and that was deemed an acceptable risk by legal. Maybe i'm just one of the lucky ones i kind of hate that.

This level was... it was definitely a lot. Not, necessarily a bad a lot, just a lot. i really enjoyed the extremely "this is not a real place, but we'll treat it like a real place" cartoon environment vibe; like it manages to pull that off pretty well. i like that there were a couple of spots where you've got mechanical movement and interactions mixed in wiv behind-the-scenes logic, i'll always have a soft spot for those. The end feels like it could have used a little bit more wrap up, and i will almost always prefer a scoreboard to an adventure board, but that was all ok. But... for all that is good and holy, why did the creator put that arm-y enemy where it was, and why was it set up how it was? Like, that bit just kills any momentum the level has. It's such a pain in the arse to get over the arm, because it's kinda-sorta tracking you, and then the bounce pad puts you onto a wall jump that, if you're not careful, will throw you right back into the spikes on the arm. i was not a fan of that bit, i can tell you what.

Once again i have gotten to my Halloween content well after Halloween. It one of the dangers of doing things in advance. You'll record a bunch, and then only later when you're actually setting up the editing and uploads do you realize you've already set for videos all the way up to, like, a week after some upcoming event. This one was a fun little one. Great presentation, very charming, smooth gameplay. i don't know if it's strong enough to make me want to come back to, but definitely glad i ran into it this year.

What do you even say about Ramp? The first. The best. Picked up Level of the Day yesterday (i am half convinced because i, in a roundabout way, reminded StevenI that it existed). Ramp is an honest hoot, and i found myself just laughing in delight. Thought, how haven't i archived this one yet? Why wasn't it the first LBsA episode? i mean, i know the reason it wasn't the first is i'd wanted that slot to go to chronos, but Ramp should have been number two by all rights.

i think First was EightWonder-'s first published in the actual release? 'cause Ramp was first-first. Still, this one's a great example of early-early LBP1 platforming, and i had a real good time wiv it. It's a little confusing in its pathing at times, and it's definitely super-kludgy, but it has such a "having a good time" vibe to it that it's hard not to love it. i appreciate it when folx get all srs biz in their creations (i don't necessarily mean that the tone is serious, just that they've clearly taken creation seriously), but i do love it when you see these levels that are, like, let's just have fun and throw everything at the wall and see what we end up wiv. As long as the result is sufficiently level as to be playable, it's always at least a little bit of a good time.

So that's the that for this set. Pretty good spread all in all, no real clunkers. i'm sorry for being late, again, but thing's have been life-shaped. Dealing wiv a lot of little health stuff. Mostly headaches and a lot of exhaustion. Nothing that has me, like, "maybe i should go to a clinic" kind of thing, but it's really got me worn down.

Top 5-10 favorite video games?
Preamble to say the only consoles I ever owned were a Sega Genesis, as a kid, and I played a shit out of that with my sister. And an X-Box 360, where I mostly played one game I also owned on PC. I'm a PC gamer.
Going from how much play and replay time I got out of them
10. Bloons TD6 - A simple tower defense game, you can even play this on mobile. It's a fun time killer. Like most games, I feel like, if you're good at math, you'll do better at it. I'm not good at math. But I have fun. I always go back to it when nothing else works.
9. Darkest Dungeon - I actually only have 82.6 hours in this game but the only reason I don't play it more, is, again, I'm bad at math, and not good at it, but I really like it. It is the type of game where suffering is the point tho, so if you're into that, I recommend. Turn based RPG game. Really cool art too.
8. Orcs Must Die 2 - Another tower defense game, but this one is a blend with a shooter. It's quick paced and fun and the characters and orcs are funny. I love this one.
7. Frostpunk - Dystopian ice age city builder. The art is also amazing. Again...math...so...I do what I can...which usually means turning down difficulty but I still love it. It's a bit depressing but...I like that.
6. Banished - Medieval/Cononial periods inspired city builder. The base game is good enough, but I admit I can no longer play without one of he handful of massive mods that make it a lot more involved and rewarding. Also, I like going all agricultural age all over the map. Playing it right now in a borrowed laptop and enjoying it still.
5. Stardew Valley - At first glance I didn't think I'd enjoy it so much but I played the heck out of this during the first leg of the pandemic. There's a lot to do in this game, farming, animal husbandry, mining and killing monsters, making friends with locals, choosing one of the handful of dull villagers to tie the knots with, having babies who never grow up, meeting the wizard, finding the witch hut, sailing to an island with more crap to do. It's a lot of fun. One of the games I miss playing since my laptop broke again.
4. Don't Starve [Together] - Survival games have a special spot in my introvert, lonely heart and DS is one of the first I got into. It's got beautiful Tim Burton-esque art and funny characters and music and it was very spooky to me when I first played it. I probably played the co-op version, Don't Starve Together, longer, because I played it with friends as well as alone because it's doable and DST offers thing you don't have in the regular game.
3. Dark Souls - I actually only managed to get my hands on (it was a gift) this game and try it recently. I gave up multiple times because it's more than challenging. It's hard. Probably not for "pro gamers" but it was for me and I beat it the first time only with the help of a cheaty mod that let me turn down difficulty. I have played it the normal way several times since and it's definitely taught me to play defensively and to actually think about my moves more than any other game. I know it's an oldie, but I love it and miss it since the pooter when poof.
2. The Long Dark - Another survival game and possibly my favorite. You're alone in Great Bear Island (Canada). Probably alone in the world after a geomagnetic storm that took out electricity and nothing works anymore and the world is getting colder. There's a story mode but I actually never played it much, I play survival mode. You can make it as difficult or as easy as you want. It's challenging and you can die from hunger, from cold, from predators, all that good stuff! I am currently playing it in my borrowed pooter.
1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - This one gets the first spot because I've played it, A LOT, in both PC and x-box 360. The replayability for me was great. I played it many times, trying different builds. And yes the game is buggy and glitchy as hell and it's got many issues, but I love it. I love the freedom it gave me to do what I wanted. It countered all of its weaknesses for me. I never had a beefy enough computer to play it with all the best mods, but I dream of the day I winthe lottery and buy the best PC to really beef up this game and play it all over again.

I’m curious about what sorts of videogames you usually play. I’d been meaning to ask you if you’ve seen TUNIC but I didn’t know if you kept up with action RPGs
I haven't played TUNIC but I'll take this opportunity to give my general opinions on various genres. I'm going to be brief but you're all encouraged to ask further questions.
RPGs: I love all kinds of RPGs, whether they're turn-based or action. If there's one style I dislike then it would be real time with pause.
I also prefer western RPGs that draw more closely from tabletop games over JRPGs. Freedom and immersion are some of the things I prioritize the most in these games.
S-tier.
Strategy: My second favorite genre after RPGs. I have a preference for turn-based ones and have played many of the really influential/significant games in the genre. I don't really have the ability to make my fingers zoom as fast as they need to in order to be really good at RTS though. I also just prefer being able to take my time to look at things and multitask a little.
A-tier.
Deckbuilding Roguelikes: I like many aspects of these, from building synergies to using cards to express various things and figuring out complex interactions.
A-tier.
Simulation: Depending on the level of detail and complexity, this can easily be really engaging.
B-tier.
Immersive Sim: Depends on what kinds of completely cracked things you are allowed to do in them but there's enough interesting games in here to warrant a high rating from me.
B-tier.
Shooters: Both first and third person are good. I don't really have a preference when it comes to camera position.
However, I think more "realistic" shooters with real-life weapons tend to be bland compared to the more creative and diverse arsenals and abilities you get in more sci-fi games.
B-tier.
Horror: Fiction doesn't really scare me, so there's an aspect to these games that I feel I'm missing and if they don't have much else going for them I'm not going to like it. However, a lot of horror games have really good aesthetics and manage to incorporate fun mechanics. I especially like some of the Resident Evil games and stuff like Darkwood.
B-tier.
Survival: For some reason, I really like the idea behind many of these games. Having to gather and manage resources and build up a cool and comfortable base in a hostile environment and all. Particularly fun with friends.
B-tier.
Mystery/Detective Games: There's lots of ways to sabotage this genre by pretty much leading the player to the right answer, but there's also clever ways to make them reach those satisfying conclusions on their own. I really enjoy figuring things like this out.
B-tier.
Shoot 'em Ups: Touhou and (to a much lesser extent) Deathsmiles are really the only series in this genre that I have much of an interest in. Touhou is definitely A-tier even in terms of just playing it, but most of the time this is just fine and not particularly noteworthy to me.
C-tier.
Beat 'em Ups + Platformers + Action-Adventure + Puzzle + Metroidvanias + Stealth + Tower Defense: All of these are decent for passing time, and some of the best ones are definitely worth it. However the genre as a whole is usually not what I even look at when I'm thinking about what I want to do.
C-tier.
MMORPG: I can only really enjoy these if I'm playing with friends. I see an incredible amount of potential in this genre, and would even say that it is possibly the most interesting one in all of gaming, but it has various issues and I'm also just not talkative enough to be the type of person who really enjoys it.
C-tier.
Fighting: I want to like fighting games. I often really like a lot of the characters from them (they tend to have amazing designs) and I really appreciate the artistry involved in expressing what a character is about through their moveset and animations.
However, I struggle to actually play them for very long because they can make my chronic pain flare up. Even just playing casually against the computer comes at a cost because of that.
C-tier.
Idle Games: "Enjoyable" only on a really superficial level without the quality of design to carry it any further. I can't say I like these games.
D-tier.
Rhythm: It's not a bad concept but it doesn't really stimulate me the way other games do and I also don't have the timing to be very good at these.
F-tier.
Racing: If there's some form of combat involved this can reach D-tier at best but otherwise it's just not that interesting to me.
F-tier.
MOBA: No.
F-tier.
Gacha: I will look at the hentai but otherwise see this as a blight upon games.
F-tier.
Sports: Absolutely not for me.
F-tier.

Belated recap because I was eepy this afternoon
Y'know, I'll take a series split. Would've been nice to win Tuesday, but I kinda had Wednesday pre-marked as a loss (sorry Varland, but. yeah). This stretch of running out the triple A roster with predictable results would feel a lot worse if every other team in the top half of the AL wasn't also tripping over themselves at the moment.
Pablo and the back end of the pen pitched great, as we've come to expect. It truly can't be overstated how big Pablo's season turnaround has been for us, with our Jenga tower of a rotation, having a stopper like him every five days is so important. Festa looked good too, just got let down by the offense not for the first time. And shoutout to the bullpen Monday, covering Sim's short start and getting out of a ton of jams in a classic Twins/Rays one-run game.
Man I wish we were able to snag someone like Odorizzi in minor league free agency, or that DeSclafani's arm hadn't fallen off in spring training, that way I wouldn't have to watch an obviously non-starter-caliber Varland or a very very rushed Matthews every five days. But, y'know. Just make it to the playoffs and pitching depth matters a lot less. And our potential 2025 rotation is shaping up to be pretty exciting.
Julien finally remembered how to hit home runs 🎉 It was a good series for our lefties overall with the homers from Larnach and Wallner too, and DaShawn Keirsey Jr's way overdue debut (the trials of being a lefty OF in the Twins org lmao). Overall the offense continues to struggle, but they scraped enough across to take two wins.
We're not gonna talk about the defense on Wednesday. This team needs Correa and Buxton so badly, and the likelihood/imminence of either continues to be not great. On the moral victory side, if any other AL playoff team was missing its two best hitters, they would probably not be hanging on as well as we are. With the exception of Kyle Tucker, Giancarlo Stanton, and very recently Vinnie Pasquantino, every other AL contender has had all its top hitters healthy all season, but here we are in the thick of it anyway.
This Royals series is gonna be tough. We haven't played well at the K late in the season (as in getting swept by much worse Royals teams the last two years), and as demonstrated tonight the pitching matchups aren't great for our already struggling offense. But we're still in a good spot, just need to stay afloat and have that haterism on tap when scoreboard watching.

I started a fanfic! It’s set in Middle Earth, with my OC Linnea being the main character. This is my first venture into writing so it’s not perfect but I try my best to make too many writing mistakes. Here’s a little teaser if you’re interested:

“What the fuck is going on! Who the fuck are you?” My voice shook and my breath misted away from my mouth as I spoke.
He seemed taken aback by my words. His head jerked back and his eyebrows drew together, a small frown passed over his lips.
“I would ask you the same,” his voice was stern. He commanded an answer. His sword shifted in his hands, drawing my eyes again.
“You’re joking, you have to be joking.” I said, shaking my head slowly.
I looked around the small clearing for an escape, this time actually taking in our surroundings, while keeping one eye on him.
The clearing was the same size as my campground, except the foliage was a mixture of towering oak, maple, and other lush green trees. Not the tall and straight pine trees I had been surrounded by just the night before.
There had been no sign of my belongings. It was colder than it had been last night and my pajamas didn’t do much to keep the chilled breeze from biting through to my skin. I wrapped my arms around myself rubbing at the goose bumps that pebbled on my arms.
“I do not jest, Miss. Tell me your name and your purpose here,” he said, a steely note in his voice, and began moving towards me.
He was impossibly tall, clothed in rough fabric with a long cloak wrapped around his shoulders. He had leather boots that wrapped up to his calves, and a second knife sheath strapped to his hip. The end of a hunting bow poked from behind his head, along with a few feathered ends of arrows. He looked like a cosplayer, dressed up for a Renaissance fair, but he looked like he had been living in the woods for a long time. His hair was greasy and his clothes had an unwashed look to them.
I stumbled backward without taking my eyes from him.
“I….that’s….you can’t just….” I stammered.
I had started shaking, from the breeze just as much as from the adrenaline coursing through me.
“This is my camp.” I finished defensively.
His eyes roved over me again. Whatever he saw in me made his shoulders fall. His arms opened and the sword pointed fully away from me.
“Again, I ask, what is your name and purpose here? As for mine, I am called Strider. I am a ranger and these lands are mine to protect from those who would do harm.” he offered more kindly than before.
Did he mean me? How could he possibly think I was a threat? I was cowering behind a flimsy tent with nothing for protection from his very sharp-looking weapon. What kind of fucked up game was this guy playing?
He glanced around the clearing again. Then he put away his sword. He took a few steps toward me, his hand raised between us, palm facing me.
“I mean you no harm”, he said earnestly.
“Yeah? What the fuck are you doing waving around a sword then? You walked into my camp at the ass crack of dawn, crept around my tent to scare me and now you want me to believe you won’t hurt me?”

Cinematic trailers not followed by gameplay on game showcases should end When we're watching Summer Game Fest or Xbox Showcase, are we waiting for movies or for games? Yes, Xbox event was fine, but Summer Game Fest had a constant problem of showing anything but the games themselves. Cinematic trailers, sometimes even live-action trailers - all of that does not show the game itself. It's a level of mobile apps, really.I miss E3, we all do, dearly. However, specifically, I miss it that it often had a structure of a cinematic trailer + gameplay, with around ten minutes in total for a game. A caring publisher can think about it much earlier, showing cinematic trailer on their website, leaving people in some excitement. However, why bringing a literal short movie on a game event? I don't give a shit about some another story in a Blizzard game because I don't play any Blizzard game - but if you want me to play a Blizzard game, SHOW IT TO ME. What I'd love to play is Civilization VII, but come on: why waiting till August to just look on it? Oh, and my favorite one: a game in a new franchise with nothing but a cinematic trailer - come on, what if that's an another tower defense game, show it to us so wrong audience already left and right audience came! I consider trailers like that as a good moment to get something to eat or go to toilet while watching a live event, really.I guess, I told it fine: cinematic trailers without gameplay should die, especially on big gaming events. If a publisher has nothing to show us yet - go away and don't waste our time, as well as don't steal time from publishers who has something to show.
