The Bookstore

Pairing: bookshop owner!Natasha Romanoff x Reader

Summary: you just moved into your new apartment and decide to visit the local bookstore Oh also the owner is also cute

Warnings: none!! [just unedited haha sorry]

A/N: What I want in my life tbh HAHA I hope you guys like this short lil something! Been awfully busy with school so it might get hectic from here 🥲

“and..done!” You say as you put away the last of the dishes in your cabinets, coughing a little at the dust.

You put away the boxes and give your apartment a look around, smiling at how adult everything looks. You just graduated from university and in the process of saving up for grad school for English Literature so moving out of your parents and into an apartment by yourself has always been the dream.

You flop down onto your little couch, sighing in content as you relax but let out a grunt as you feel your dog jump onto your stomach. “Hi Henry”

Your golden retriever puppy yaps happily in greeting as he wags his tail, his tail wagging faster as you scratch behind his ear. You grin at the dog and pull him into your arms, hugging the dog and giving him a short kiss on the top of his head.

“We have a place on our own buddy, what do you wanna do first?”

Henry thinks for a moment and points his snout to your barren bookshelf, making you look over for a moment.

“Hmm you’re right buddy, we should start filling that up huh? Wanna go to the bookstore now?” You smile as he yaps in agreement, getting off you so you can get up. You put on your converse, a beanie and a coat as Henry gets his leash, waddling adorably up at you with his leash in his mouth.

You chuckle at the dog and you give him one last kiss on top of his head before taking the leash thats in his mouth. You clip the leash on, grabbing your wallet and keys and putting it in your coat pocket as you head out with the dog.

You’re currently staying at a rather small town outside of Norway since its cheaper to live here and you’ve always wanted to live in the area, so at least you won’t be moving so far from the main city when the time comes. You and Henry walk down the chilly streets as you take in your surroundings and taking mental notes of the stores around. You make a left turn to reach the little bookstore you saw when you passed by earlier this morning, smiling to see it’s open.

“Look buddy, it’s still open. Oh! They don’t mind pets too” you grin at the happy puppy, opening the door for him to go in and eventually following him. The bookstore itself is decked out to look like an old english library with reading nooks at some areas.

You go up a book shelf to see the books available and see that the section is old book classics with the vintage hard bound covers. You run your fingers through the spines of the book to settle on Jane Eyre. You take the book out, gently touching the cover while admiring the vintage book design. You open up the book to see that its a little worn out, shocked to see a little message on the front.

“To N.R., for the fiery woman that changed my life forever” you mumble as you read the small letter, wondering who NR is. You jump as you hear Henry bark, looking at his way to see a black cat staring at the two of you. You put the book back as you bend down to look at the cat.

“Hey little guy, who are you?” You let out your hand so that the cat could sniff, who gives you the paw of approval. You smile as he purrs in response, scratching behind his ear slightly before checking the collar. “Liho?”

“Ah, there you are you stupid cat”

You jump at the new voice behind you, making you fall on your butt as Henry yap and Liho walk up to the voice. You groan a little as Henry nudges you on the arm with his snout, a hand in front of you as you look up for your jaw to drop.

The hand and voice belonged to the really attractive redhead dressed in a chunky knitted sweater with the front tucked into her skinny jeans thats cuffed and sneakers. You snap out of your trance as the woman clears her throat a little, taking her hand as she helps you up. You dust yourself off a little as a blush forms on your cheeks.

“I’m sorry, is he your cat?”

“Yes sadly the little shit loves to hide from me to meet new people” she teases lightly causing the cat to meow, smiling slightly as you chuckle.

“Natasha Romanoff, are you new? I haven’t seen you around before” she asks as Liho goes up to Henry who then proceeds to play with the cat making you smile slightly as you remove his leash so he can play around.

“Y/N Y/L/N” you start with a shy smile “Yea just today actually. Wanted to borrow some books to read” you explain as you lean back at the counter behind you, fiddling with your fingers slightly in front of you.

Nat hums to herself slightly as she turns to face the books while rolling up her sleeves. You cock your head to the side slightly as you stare at her arms, internally appreciating the view you have of the woman.

“Here! You should definitely read this” Nat says while plucking a book from the shelf, turning to face you as she hands it to you. “Personal recommendation”

You take the book from the red head, smirking at the book cover slightly. “So you’re NR”

Nat chuckles slightly, rubbing the back of her neck slightly. “So you’ve seen the book already when you entered the shop huh?”

“To N.R., for the fiery woman that changed my life forever” you repeat the note in the book by memory, looking at her curiously. “From a boyfriend?”

Nat chuckles slightly at the accusation, shaking her head no and gives you a slight smirk.

“No, I don’t swing that way. From a friend” You smile at her comment and underlying message, putting the book down on the counter.

“Well, since I’m new” you start while shoving your hands into your coat pocket with a shy smile. “Any suggestions for nice restaurants in the area? I’d love to take you out sometime”

Nat smirks a little at your bravery, getting an old receipt from the counter behind you and a pen, scribbling her number and address on the paper and handing it to you. “Here’s my number and meet me at this address, they have the best chicken wings in the area”

You look down at the receipt, smiling slightly. As you put the receipt into your pocket, what the two of you didn’t notice are your two pets having the time of their lives and running around the room. As Henry chases Liho, the black feline zooms in between your legs making Henry ram himself onto the back of your knees, making your knees buckle and fall forward. You gasp as you try to stop the fall, only for you to land into the arms of Nat with the two of you falling on the floor.

You both hear mewing and yapping as you get up a little, face to face with the red head, blushing furiously at the close proximity. As you open your mouth to say sorry, she tucks a piece of strand hair behind your ear as she smiles softly at you making your heart skip a beat.

“See you tomorrow at 6?”

“O-oh yea totally”

okay, let's start with levi (my beloved):

hogwarts house: gryffindor (maybe....?) | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

ugh, the hp sorting house system is way too reductive. he has qualities of gryffindor, slytherin, and hufflepuff - brave, astute, loyal to a fault, etc. so it's a hard choice. but if i really have to choose, i'd go for gryffindor. i know that his Bad Boy facade shouts slytherin, but while he has larger goals (killing all the titans, then saving the world etc.), he's got no actual ambition for himself. hufflepuff would also be a good option.

daemon (from the his dark materials series): (because i've just decided that's just way more accurate than the hp method) some kind of big feline. maybe a panther - a black panther would be the ideal - aloof, predatory, dangerous, fiercely independent.

best quality: besides his obvious strenghts as a leader and warrior, the way he cares for his comrades-in-arms. it's very hard to gain his trust and respect, but once you have it, it's forever. he's pragmatic and ruthless, yes, but he also has a huge capacity for compassion and friendship. not that he would be effusive about his affections, of course.

worst quality: none, he's absolutely perfect ❤ jklsdfhjk jokes aside, he really struggles to open up (a serious understatement), idt he ever talked about his traumatic past with anyone. i mean, maybe he mentioned it to hange and erwin (erwin knew him when he was still an undergound thug, so...), but... he's not great with feelings. despite his apathetic, intimidating mask, he feels and cares deeply, but he has a long history with losing the people he loves, so he tries to not personally care about his squadmates, which can be both a strenght and a weakness. of course, he spectacularly fails at this.

ship them with: well, it's not a secret that i'm a huge rivamika fan, this ship is almost literally consuming my waking thoughts lmao. imo they're perfectly compatible: very similar personalities (stoic, the strongest warriors, absolutely terrifying on the battlefield but with a soft underbelly), very similar pasts/experiences, so many parallels that it's actually ridiculous, etc. i love how they're both each other's equals and likeness (yes, i took it from jane eyre. no, i don't regret anything lmao). a lot of tropes i love, too: Terrible First Impression (the Pride and Prejudice vibes are so strong with these two, you have no idea), Kindred Spirits/Mirror Images, Veteran/Young Prodigy, The Last of Their Kind, even Height Difference lmao. i could write a whole rivamika manifesto, but this is already too long. (maybe for some other time 👀) i would've loved for their dynamic to be more explored in canon but alas, isayama clearly didn't give a shit about the ackerman legacy, he just used it as a plot shortcut to give them conveniently unique powers, since they never really talked about it 🙄 (and before some troll comes into my askbox shouting "you iNcEsT fReAk!!!!1!!", they're only very distantly related. we know shit about the ackermans but we know for sure that they've got at least several generations between them. biologically their shared DNA is 0%, obviously they don't see each other as family, all the eldians have a dead ass common ancestor from 2000 years ago so they're all basically ⁓related anyway. if you really wanna scream about i.ncest, go watch got/dark/the borgias and shut the fuck up please. or alternatively go outside and touch some grass) sorry for the rant, uh. anyway, i can also see levi/erwin. idk if i'd ever care enough to read a fic about them (i'm usually a huge multishipper, but for some weird reason not when it comes to rivamika? same with braime and kastle tbh), but still, i can see it.

brotp them with: hange and erwin, obv. veteran trio >>> ema trio, sorry not sorry (at least h. and e. died before yams had the chance to ruin their character arcs)

needs to stay away from: ...uh, filth, i guess? lmao

misc. thoughts: besides the stupid teenage fangirl crush i have on him, i'm genuinely fascinated by the man himself. he's a huge mess of a contradictions, and yet somehow it works: he's violent and brash and kind of an asshole, but also has a strong moral code and integrity; he's obv very skilled at all the killing/torturing stuff and yet he has a huge respect for life; he's got a potty mouth to say the least, and yet some very aristocratic manners/tastes (the way he sits, his preference for tea and usually refined clothes); he comes from what's supposed to be an illustrous bloodline, he's methodical and very precise, and yet he was born and raised in the underground, he's been used to filth and blood and poverty since he was a child, kenny of all people was his father figure, and probably has known no other life than a perennial survival mode existence. he's "humanity's strongest soldier", but while well-built he's also small, the david to the titans' goliah, and probably not what people would assume a born warrior looks like. he's also one of the few characters who stayed true to himself and his original characterization until the end, bless you smol king ❤

(okay, this is getting long!)

mikasa:

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

this is actually easy: mikasa belongs to hufflepuff and no, i won't take criticism (just joking lol). enough with this "hufflepuffs are fluffy puppies/Cinnamon Rolls <3" thing: mikasa values loyalty and duty more than anything else. she's also hardworking... and fierce, strong, lethal. yes, hufflepuff and lethal are not mutually exclusive concepts.

daemon: (finally the better option) a she-wolf, fiercely protective of her pack.

best quality: loyal, brave, incredibly strong (alongside her more fragile qualities). practical and level-headed on the battlefield, at least when eren is not included in the picture.

worst quality: struggles to let go of the past (understandable, considering her trauma). tunnel-vision when it comes to eren, obv. extreme levels of delusions ("if only i spoke openly about my romantic feelings for him - as if i didn't made them abundantly clear in ⁓6 years - he wouldn't kill 80% of humanity :(((" lmao okay. just. okay), but that's more on the writing. she's sadly more static than any other main character throughtout the whole series.

ship them with: see above :) but recently i've also started to be intrigued by mikasa/annie and mikasa/sasha. also, i'm sympathetic to jeankasa fans, though i don't actually care for the ship.

brotp them with: EMA trio, especially armin+mikasa. their friendship is so beautiful and special. also sasha.

needs to stay away from: ...... eren, at least romantically. again, that's more on the writing than anything else, but e.remika unfortunately encompasses many tropes i loathe with all the strength of my old shriveled heart: childhood friends-to lovers where the (male) childhood friend doesn't acknolewdge/is completely indifferent to the other (female) friend's romantic feelings, she hopelessly pines for him for years without anything more than a cold shoulder... until in the last chapter it's revealed that he loved her all along and doesn't "want other men to have her!!! :((" (then why did you have no reaction whatsoever to jean's years-long crush on her while she was jealous of any vaguely female-shaped human being you were friendly to, including hange? are you that dumb, man?); the female character's development and entire arc 100% revolves around the male protagonist - she has no goals, no dreams of her own except staying with him forever and ever; the romance is based on an idealized childhood dream, therefore reaffirming those childish illusions would make the character regress, not actually grow up (and nope, epilogue!jk doesn’t count; that also lacks build-up - i would’ve said the same about rm as well, so it’s not about shipping, guys, it really isn’t - and mikasa needed an inner change; getting married to another man but still praying to eren’s shrine is not substitute to actual development lol). post-time skip she's never really frustrated/angry with him, they never get a confrontation about him becoming a, y'know, mass-murderer of gigantic (pun intended) proportions; she puts him on a pedestal, and never stops idealizing him/never sees him for what he actually is (the narrative framing him as some kind of tragic martyr/saint eren from paradis with zero agency and basically... no clear motivation for the abovementioned mass murder, and not the actual complex tragic anti-hero/villain motivated by revenge and righteous fury he deserved to be, does not help). it lacks a good or even decent build-up - it's basically all tell and not show. now, if they'd actually been childhood friends to enemies to lovers/mutually co-dependent... it could have been interesting. sadly, it's not my cup of tea. of course this is just my personal preference, no hard feelings to the shippers.

misc. thoughts: enormous potential. she's been my fav female character since s1 - and ah, i miss s1!mikasa, when she had actually other stuff to do besides mothering eren. i love that she's the strongest warrior (second only to levi, obv), that her skills are never called into questions despite her gender, i love how she stands up for herself and the people she loves, that she may seem cold and stoic and yet has a such a huge heart, that she's not perfect but also sometimes awe-inspiring. sadly, she never really gets out of eren's shadow; what she lacks is an arc focused on herself. that's why imo getting deeper into the ackerman lore would've helped (also, you cannot make the main female character and the most popular male character descend from the same Unique Bloodline or whatever, and never really make them acknowledge it out loud; as a writer, you just can't lol). my spite is so strong that i'm currently writing a ridiculously pretentious fic that's 70% development for her character, to give her a voice, and 30% ackerthirsting. (yes, that's the fic i'm always vagueblogging about lmao, rip @ my brain). if any other rivamika fan is interested… mind you, it’s in italian tho, and idt i have the skills to translate into english.

misa:

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

daemon: mmh, maybe some kind of butterfly? beautiful, colorful, and short-lived.

best quality: glorious fashion sense, more inventive and ingenious than fans actually give her credit for.

worst quality: shallow, impulsive, and obv her dependence on/obsession with light (which stems from trauma btw, but still… the very opposite of a relationship between equals).

ship them with: rem, kinda (monster/human ftw!). also weirdly enough mogi, a little bit? she deserves someone who actually respects her… though she’s far from being a perfect angel. she may actually be crazier than light on some aspects. but in this house we stan evil ladies anyway, so i have no problem with that <3

brotp them with: uh, idk, maybe matsuda?

needs to stay away from: obv light. also takada.

misc. thoughts: a tragic victim of sexist writing. she may be… unhinged to say the least, but she didn’t deserve the abuse she got from light (and from the fans). the female characters’ writing in dn is so bad that idk if it’s on purpose, to kinda mirror the reality of women in a patriarchal society (dependent on men, housewives whose life entirely revolves around their husband/boyfriend etc.), or just casual misogyny lol. it’s even more baffling since we don’t know the author’s gender (they may be a man, a woman, nb, anything really). i tend for the latter option tho.

aegon greyjoy (now, i wasn’t expecting him lol):

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

i’m so sorry, i haven’t the slightest idea lmao. maybe gryffindor? mind you, it’s been a long time since i’ve re-read the books, so i don’t have many thoughts about him.

daemon: maybe it’s cliché, but some kind of fish/squid lmao

best quality: ugh, i really can’t remember much from his chapters :(( he’s not a coward, i guess? (lame answer, sorry!)

worst quality: definitely his religious fanaticism.

misc. thoughts: i genuinely like the greyjoys chapters, though i vastly prefer the martells (with the exception of theon and asha, bcs i love them). yes, they’re deranged. yes, victarion is… well, victarion lol. but the drowned god religion is actually interesting, grrm knows how to write trauma - every time aeron mentions euron and that freaking door i’m like… :// - and the tragedy of it all… just great writing all around.

omg I love your book recommendations list you just wrote! the more and more I hear about the stormlight archives the more I want to read it, but I've just got the Mistborn book and I'm going to read them first, what do you think of them? I know some people have had an issue with the women in that trilogy but I did see Sanderson himself talking on reddit or something about it how he's trying to write better or something. he seems like he's generally getting better I think. so I'm looking forward to stormlight archives when I get to it.

also, have you read Wide Sargasso Sea? one of my favourite books that's based off Jane Eyre! the relationship between Rochester and his first wife.

I'm trying to get into fantasy a bit more, have you got any other specifically fantasy favourites? x

I really enjoyed Mistborn tbh! I’ve only read the first trilogy, but I think for the most part women were handled well because 1) I’m pretty sure Sanderson purposefully set out to write a good female lead and imo it shows even if it misses the mark sometimes, like I’m pretty fond of Vin and was invested in her story the whole time, and 2) there’s definitely things to criticize about Mistborn’s portrayal of women, but I’ve seen much worse, and I actually think Sanderson’s Warbreaker is what deserves the most scrutiny in this aspect (it’s one of my faves of his because of the world building and because one of the only other cosmere characters that holds a candle to Kaladin is in it) but anyway enjoyable as it was it was also most blatantly misogynistic and I live in fear that one day a friend I’ve mentioned the cosmere to a ton of times will finally cave in and choose to start with Warbreaker of all things! 😭 (semi joking) (ideologically/morally speaking Warbreaker is just not Sanderson at his best even if I love a good chunk of the book)

Anyway you’re right! Sanderson is very open with his fans and admits to old biases and prejudices showing in his earlier books, and his improvement shows in his writing which I think is the most important thing! Mistborn era/trilogy 1 is a really nice starting place, I’m still very very fond of the characters and I think that’s why I haven’t moved on to Mistborn era/trilogy 2 yet 🤧 Era 1 is a solid adventure and while I didnt love the direction the plot went at times (and did not dig certain character deaths! 😑) it was an overall absorbing time and I might buy the trilogy sometime. It should be noted that Mistborn draws attention to the existence of sexual violence but it’s never described or at the forefront of the plot, Sanderson in general just doesn’t really go there.

Also no I haven’t managed to get my hands on a copy of Wide Sargasso Sea yet! 😭 I really wanna, but my library doesn’t have it in any digitized format 😔 I know you said it’s one of your favorites but if you wanna expand on that and tell me more of your (non-spoilery) thoughts on WSS I’m all ears! 👀👂🏽 no one I know irl has read it I don’t think 🤔 I do have my eyes on an ebook version of Mr. Rochester by Sarah Shoemaker, another Jane Eyre prequel I hope to read when school gets off my back. I have noooo idea if it’s gonna be good or not though, I’d never heard of it before when I stumbled upon it abzhsbs. The only other Jane Eyre inspired book I’ve tried to read was The Eyre Affair and while the premise was fascinating, I couldn’t stand the prose or characters so I dropped it qgshshshshh

As for fantasy faves! A majority of them are like fairytale/folklore retellings/inspired, I actually haven’t read as much high fantasy as I wish I had yet 😰 (feel free to drop some recs in my ask box if you have any 👀) anyway: Keturah and Lord Death and Sleepless, which I mentioned in the last ask, Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett (first book of the Founders Trilogy, an insanely fun ride, Sanderson himself left a good review on it and the world building in it is similarly lush as in Sanderson’s works! Definitely darker than almost anything Sanderson has ever written but I loved that), Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis (Cupid and Psyche retelling), The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix (Sabriel, the first book, is still an all time fave), Tamora Pierce’s Beka Cooper trilogy and Circle of Magic series are old faves too, Damsel by Elana K. Arnold (🚨PROCEED WITH CAUTION🚨 it’s nauseatingly graphic and deals with repeated sexual assault, I think the end makes it worth it but others might understandably disagree. It’s a dark subversion/exploration of the whole ‘knight rescues maiden from tower and they get married’ trope), N. K. Jemisin’s Dreamblood Duology (definitely buying this eventually!!) and Egg & Spoon by Gregory Maguire was very solid and fun from what I remember.

I also rec T. Kingfisher’s short story collections Jackalope Wives and Other Stories and Toad Words and Other Stories (some of the works in both books are free online! So if you want a taste of her work def look up T Kingfisher short stories) and I’ve also read Bryony and Roses by her, which I remember enjoying but it’s been a while. Also Helen Oyeyemi’s work is rlly fun and gorgeously written, and in general has lots of fairytale references (out of the books I’ve read so far at least! Which are only Boy, Snow, Bird and Mr. Fox but I have the audiobook for Gingerbread checked out and the one for Peaces on hold)

russians: admittedly I’m not as strong on them as I’d like to be but eugene onegin is an a+ poem and dostoevskij is always a great choice, my fave is brothers karamazov and obviously crime and punishment is a total classic but if you want to start of easier there’s the house of the dead, the gambler and notes from the underground, also gogol’s the nose and the coat are some of my fve short stories and checkov’s short stories are generally great (I need to read more tolstoy tbh so I can’t go give advice on that but in general start with the short ones and move up to the longest)

also treasure island is a classic if you’re into adventure and shit, same as jules verne (if you like italians and find a translation you can try out salgari’s anything, it’s the same brand of stuff)

if you’re into horror get yourself a collected edgar allan poe works book and marvel, he mostly did short stories anyway so it’s all v. accessible u_u

americans ie LET ME GO ABOUT THE STUFF I LIKE: STEINBECK (my fave is the grapes of wrath but honest anything he did is a+, east of eden is waaay longer so I’d suggest going for grapes before, but if you wanna start off very short there’s of mice and men and cannery row/sweet thursday + the short stories in the long valley) and vonnegut (slaughterhouse V is the one you wanna read first, but cat’s cradle is also genius and my favorite is god bless you mr rosewater, but really vonnegut hasn’t written one book in his life that wasn’t at least a 7,5 on 10 lol) as general authors, then

moby dick if you’re into wanting to try that behemoth but is2g it’s worth it

the adventures of huckleberry finn is actually what’s mostly agreed started off american lit as a separated genre and I love the shit out of it

I’m not the best on spanish lit around but you might wanna read don quixote if you wanna go for a) the most important novel in spanish lit, b) one of the first novels period. ps: it’s absolutely a riot

italians: these are more complicated bc we didn’t have *novels* until the 19th century and I’m not a fan of a lot of them but if you have the chance do try out calvino (the invisible cities and a great work)

if you really wanna go heavy on *literally* classics and want to try out ancient greeks or latins... well obviously odyssey/iliad/aeneid count, but you might wanna check out aristophanes’ comedies which are a-total-riot - lysistrata is really great also for our modern sensibilities and you don’t need to know anything about ancient greece to read it, while for the clouds or the birds you might wanna get an edition with notes but anyway they’re a riot. also there’s my forever favorite epic poem ie lucretius’ on the nature of things which is basically philosophical epic poetry and I love it but I understand it might be boring to others, so I will also throw in lucian’s a true story which is pretty much the first scifi story in western lit and it’s also a riot. (then if you wanna move on to tragedy just go with either aeschylus’s oresteia trilogy which basically gives you a very good idea of how the entire thing was supposed to work. sophocles has seven of them which are all great and eurypides has a lot more but like just start with the above if you wanna try that out).

Heaven in Hiding || Spencer Reid x Luke Alvez {PT. 1}

Summary of Imagine: Luke gets drunk at Spencer’s party and becomes dependent on Reid, in which things end up going in the complete opposite direction they both expect it to.

A/N: Inspired by the song Heaven in Hiding by Halsey! (I really wanna do a whole Halsey series tbh) I really hope you guys like it and forgive me if this is choppy - I’m so used to my old fanfics where they were always heterosexual relations so I haven’t really worked with same gender relations! It was Spencer’s 30th birthday, and JJ had surprised him with well, a surprise party that had been casually thrown together in a last minute attempt to make the birthday boy feel special, instead of sitting alone on his birthday snuggled up with a book and a cheap cupcake from Costco.

Everyone managed to stay sober except for Luke and Emily. Those two went at it with the alcohol Emily provided, and no one stopped them. They both threw in their responsibilities considering both Sergio and Roxy were at the kennel for an overnight visit, so with the parental needs out of the way, they were intoxicated to no end, but those two were having fun, so the team just let them go.

As the chaotic shouts of the night slowly faded into the desired rest of morning and the team was yawning more than laughing, Spencer decided to call it quits on the bash that had now become well... a crash. Emily and Luke were both giggling, but eventually fell asleep on Spencer’s tainted corduroy sofa adorned with coffee stains.

JJ agreed to escort Emily home, considering both of their residences were in close proximity to one another, and an hour ago she was itching to get home to see her child and Will.

Everyone else left except for Luke who refused, promptly hissing at Emily and JJ as they walked out. Emily proceeded to laugh, squirt Luke with a plant spray, and tell him that “momma is gonna punish you”, implying that Emily was so drunk she thought Luke was her cat Sergio.

It was just Luke and Reid now, and although Spencer was buzzed, he was still sober enough to know Luke wasn’t completely okay, but it had been a few hours since he had a shot so he figured the tipsy man should recover quickly.

“Do you wanna just pass out here? It’s like 3am and I don’t want you driving home.” Spencer asked, but it seemed as if he was talking to a four year old.

Without hesitation, Luke abruptly nodded, still dazing in and out of a lucid dream he had been having about someone, considering Spencer could hear all of the not so appropriate things he was mumbling as he had been rolling around on the couch.

Spencer sat down on the couch next to Luke, his curls sprawled out in every direction refusing to become tame. He eventually aided Luke to clean up a bit and gave him a drink of water, the drunk now in Spencer’s arms because after seeming stable, his feet were now “incapable of working” and decided it would be better to use Spencer as his stability.

Luke went back into the deepest sleep of his life, and Spencer placed him down gently on the used couch, carelessly throwing a blanket over the now fetal positioned man snoring obnoxiously.

Leaving Luke to rest, Spencer decided to get changed into an old tee shirt - one that said “If you were an enzyme, I would be a DNA helicase so I could unzip your genes”. This cheesy and slightly inappropriate shirt he only wore to bed because it was too improper for work, but secretly, it was his favorite shirt. He threw on some flannel pajama pants to match (of course they matched - he may have been lazy but he was never caught badly dressed) and went to the kitchen table to read one of his favorite books - Jane Eyre. The music was still softly playing in the background from that night, ranging from Adele (Garcia’s choice) to Big Sean (Morgan’s choice). He didn’t mind it that much, so he dove in to the book and began to feel lost in it, ignoring the prominent snores coming from the recovering drunk in the background.

Spencer had been reading for about an hour, but his mind couldn’t fathom the plot line of the book, but rather his focus was on Luke - the one across the room from him on the couch. To be honest, when Luke had first started out at the BAU, Spencer had felt sort of a holy-shit-he’s-hot moment, but quickly brushed it off because at that time, there was no room for feelings. He didn’t want to feel anything since Maeve had passed, so he quickly dismissed these strange feelings for depression and loneliness. This hadn’t been the first time too that he’d wanted to pursue someone of the same sex, to be honest Derek was the first, but Spencer quickly got over that urge and was confident this would be the same way. That’s what he told himself anyway. Just a phase.

Yet, he couldn’t help himself from looking back at Luke, admiring him in such a way he would adore a lover.

Quickly Luke’s eyes opened to meet Spencer’s, but instead of addressing the matter of the odd glance, the boy dove back into his classic literature filled with religion, romance and tragedy. In an attempt to act normal, Spencer pushed up his glasses and nonchalantly flipped a page, licking his finger to do so in the process, the light trace of saliva wetting the used page.

Luke had been staring too. As soon as Spencer had focused in on his book after locking eyes with his, the man held his glance, marveling at how focused he was, how simply astounding he was to just look at. Now Luke had been a lady’s man, but what no one knew and what he refused to reveal was the fact he had also had his share of closeted relationships with men as well, but they had never ended well so he stuck to women, even if by women he meant his dog Roxy.

Eventually Luke stumbled up from the cozy couch, shuffling mindlessly into the kitchen for another glass of water to subside his raging headache. He was still semi-hungover, but now lucid. Of course Spencer had one of those weird fridges that take 3,000 times to figure out how to get the water out of the spout, so the first time Luke attempted to retain some liquid, he accidentally spilled water all over the floor.

“Dammit.” He cursed, grabbing the stray towel that had draped over the oven - the one Spencer refuses to use.

The boy at the kitchen table directed his scattered attention from the book to the hungover man cussing on the floor, failing miserably to clean up water from the old tile.

Spencer slowly rose from his reading and grabbed another old towel from the laundry room, trying to help Luke clean up the mess he had produced seconds earlier.

They eventually got it cleaned up, the resounding silence unsettling the both of them, because the closer they got, the more scared they each became of what was inevitable.

Ultimately, Luke sooner or later got his ice water, but they could now both feel the tension in between them, even if they were still numerous feet away. In an attempt to break the unsettling feeling amongst the two, Luke hopped up on Spencer’s counter and grabbed an apple from the basket beside him, biting into the juicy center, making a louder crunch than he intended to. Out of nowhere, Spencer started to laugh, one technique he often used when he got nervous.

Way Down We Go by Kaleo was playing in the background, a tune Spencer actually loved. As if almost on cue, Luke’s words spill out of his mouth, shattering the conversation silence they had both held since he woke up.

“Hell, I love this song.”

“Me... me too.” Spencer stutters, revealing a small smile and lightly tapping on his glasses, another trick he uses for anxiety and awkward situations. He was the epitome of awkward situations. It’s probably why he couldn’t date anyone.

“You like music?” Luke questions as he raises his eyebrows and jumps off the counter, searching for something to eat in the fridge.

Spencer tugs on some of his hair and clears his throat. “Love it.”

Failing to find anything admirable in the fridge (well - Spencer was admirable, but he wasn’t in the fridge) Luke closed the door softly and starts to hum the current song.

In an attempt to gather more space between the two and clear the awkward tensions, Spencer slowly paced back to the place where Luke just was, his back against the cool surface of the porcelain counter.

Avoiding eye contact, Spencer stared down at his mixed match socks - one was gray with pink polka dots, the other a paisley blue pattern - and took a deep sigh. It had been a long night. Luke seemed to ignore the gestures even as the place stayed silent.

Spencer could feel it. He didn’t want to, but he just knew this was going to go someplace he hadn’t been before and he wasn’t sure he was ready for it, but Luke looked so good with his small smile and natural build that left him speechless.

Luke could feel that something was going to change tonight. He had never been as close to anyone as he was to Spencer right now, but he chose to ignore that and focus on the boy with the sad smile standing in front of him - from his dimples to the curls that covered half of his delicate face.

Just as Luke was about to say something the both of them were thinking, Spencer finally opens his mouth to talk, hesitation but determination clear in his shaky voice.

He moves a step closer, and sighs.

“Fuck it.”

april movie wrap up ~~

I watched 13 movies last month, which isn’t bad cause it means I actually watch a movie every 2-3 days??? unbelievable it’s so obvious that I don’t have a life. anyway, here are the highlights of the movies I watched! some of the movies I didn’t mention: jackie was okay, I rewatched harry potter poa cause why not, going in style was meh, far from the madding crowd wasn’t bad but wasn’t amazing either, did you hear about the morgans was fun.

beauty and the beast (2017). watched this with some friends, it was soooo good! probably the best movie I watched this month, it’s exactly what I expected and wanted it to be and more. emma watson was a++, the songs made me choke at times, but it’s also not too copy-paste-ing the original movie, which was nice. the dialogues are great, characters were well introduced and well crafted, I liked the costumes and special effects, basically it was a great time.

enemy (2013). another gyllenhaal movie woohoo! although it’s not that good imo, it’s quite bizarre. it reminds me a lot of high rise and similar movies, and I do like these slow, pretty, but also weird and at other times shocking movies. jake was amazing, the ending was so wtf. it’s also really similar to the double (jessie eisenberg), and tbh I preferred the double than this, sorry.

21 and 22 jump street. rewatched these two movies with my boyfriend and his sister cause we wanted something fun and light. they were hilarious, I think the first one was one of the funniest humour movies I’ve watched? maybe because I don’t watch that many of them, and I don’t laugh at most of the humourous parts of a comedy for some reason. I do prefer comedy tv series than movies, but channing tatum is awesome, and jonah hill is just adorable. some hilarious moments that will crack me up even right now <3

guardians of the galaxy and guardians of the galaxy vol. 2. my boyfriend, being the marvel fan he is, was so psyched to watch the new gotg movie and so we rewatched the first one first to refresh our memories. I liked the first one, but I thought the second was even better! I liked the story and all the special effects, the characters are more developed and you can really see they tried to explore the relationships between each other. I felt like it could’ve been better in terms of directing - the music wasn’t as memorable as the first one, and there were too many pretty colors/lights and slow motion sequences. also a lot of cliched moments. however, it was fun and funny (waaay funnier than the first one, which I didnt mind), and I LOVE BABY GROOT SO MUCH.

I wanna rewatch more movies, I think. I’ve lately been in the mood for period dramas - hence why I decided to watch far from the madding crowd. I haven’t watched jane eyre in a while and I LOVED that movie, so I might watch that.

watch more movies at the cinema! last month I only watched 3 movies at the cinema, so this month I need to step it up. a lot of interesting movies are out now, not necessarily blockbusters but quite exciting ones.

last month I was also watching quite a lot of tv shows - I started fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood, and I also finished new girl and am following brooklyn nine nine. and most of the nights, when I’m having my free time, I would prefer to watch youtube videos or go on tumblr rather than watch a movie. so I need to make more conscious decisions to watch a movie at home.

Number of blankets I sleep with: I always have a sheet, and if it’s too hot I’ll just stick with that (or that plus a light blanket), but otherwise I have a sheet and a quilt.

Dream trip: I like lots of different kinds of trips!! But I especially enjoy some kind of historical aspect that I can get immersed in, and ideally lots of museums and galleries and stuff. But then I don’t want to just do city/town things, so a nature component where I just go on lots of walks and explore all the nature around the place is ideal too. I’m not big on the sea that much, but like somewhere with lots of forests/fields/hills etc would be wonderful. Idk I just wanna do everything ya know

Dream job: Mainly I want to write and publish things, so books/articles/essays/whatever else I can write and just kinda keep that as free-flowing as possible, and not get pigeon-holed into one specific style or topic in writing. But I also love music and secretly really still want to pursue that, so if I could be involved in that then I’d be super happy. But I feel like my idea of a ‘dream job’ is more about getting paid to just pursue my interests and talents and not get cornered into a particular vocation, even if that seems unrealistic. So like I want to write and play music and bake and do crafty things with my hands and design interiors and fashion and just kinda utilise every creative interest I have....and get money for it. I have way too many dreams and things I’m interested in haaaaaaa @_@

When did your blog reach its peak: I wouldn’t say my blog is super popular so I dunno how to answer this... But I guess it was at its most active once I got into fashion and started watching Mad Men.

What made you decide to make a tumblr: One of my friends in high school had one (this was like 2008 or 2009) and back then it was all indie pics of cute couples and emo black and white gifs and stuff, and I thought that was cool. I think I had an idea of using it as a kind of personal visual diary, which I guess it still is, although everything is such a mish-mash these days idk if that’s quite accurate anymore lol. It defs wasn’t about social issues/commentary back then, or even fandoms until a couple years in, so yeah...

Why did you pick your url: My anglo name for like 12+ years that I used in school is Rosie, and there’s that old nursery rhyme, ‘Ring Around the Rosie’, so I just picked a line from that and made it my url. I’ve never thought to change it though. Idk what I would change it to lol
