#I still really love this concept for Tomura

I was looking through my one-shots for some typo fixes, and when I was reading the Reaching Demon’s Treehouse, I was reminded of this drawing idea I had in mind, that I just never made at the time. It’s not really what happens in the one-shot, but it IS something Tomura would’ve done lol

When They Think You Cheated
Tumblr media
Omg, anon, no! I'm so bad at writing break ups, so I'll change the concept a bit to them believing their s/o is cheating, but she's not.

TOMURA SHIGARAKI
Tomura is an insecure man. That is no secret to either of you, however, he understands how his insecurities may harm your relationship, so most of the time he voices them out so that you can both talk about them, and you always end up reassuring him.
Today, though, he cannot, for the life of him, think of a way to talk out the fact that you have a hickey on your neck. What is there to talk about? The truth that he ignored was that you accidentally burnt your neck earlier this morning while doing your hair, it would've never occured to him, especially when he was as angry as he is right now, observing your neck, a thin layer of make up attempting to cover the mark, but failing. Why would you even hide it if there was a reasonable explanation? He knew for a fact that he didn't left that on your neck.
As much as he wanted to yell at you and dispose of all his rage, truth was that he was really hurt, and so everything he managed to do was confront the reality with resignation. "Who did that?" He asked calmly, but you could hear bitterness in his voice. "What?" You asked, not very sure what he meant. He looked at you angrily now, it was very clear. "Who's the guy that you are seeing? Or do you just happen to have a different one every now and then? You know, I always thought of you as a smart girl, but it is very stupid of you to let them leave your neck like that, you could've tried harder to hide it." You finally understood what was going on... Oh god. He tried to sound as if he didn't care, cold and indifferent, but you knew how incredibly hurt he was.
You immediately got up and approached him, reaching for his face, but he moved to avoid your touch. "Tomura, look, it's a burn mark, I did it with my straightener, I swear." He looked at you through narrowed eyes, still not believing you. You rushed to your room and came back with your straightener in hand, turning it on and attempting to place it on your arm, but Tomura immediately stopped you. "Are you crazy?" The man scolded you, and you looked at him desperately. "It is a burn, I swear." You repeated. Now starting to doubt himself, Tomura then reached for your neck, caressing it softly with his thumb, rubbing a bit of the make up off. You were right. Oh no. He truly felt like a fucking asshole. The man sighed before pressing his forhead against yours. "I'm truly sorry, (Y/n). I'm so, so sorry." You were just relieved it all ended. He spent the rest of the evening tending to your wound, scolding you for putting make up on when it was still so fresh and kissing your cheeks in hopes you would forgive him. Never again will he act like that, that's for sure.

TOUYA TODOROKI | DABI
Touya sits silently on the edge of the bed as he observes the hotel recipt he found under the bed. It dates a week back, when you were supposed to go on a work trip at a completely different city than the one this hotel was at. Now, he can be very confident some days, and very insecure some other days. This is one of the latter days, evidently. In moments like this, thousands of thoughts run through his mind. Why? Is it because of the scars? But you said you didn't care. Did you lie? Of course you did, who would actually choose him over anyone else? He feels stupid, and so heartbroken. He loves you. He really does, and now all of this hurt has turned into uncontrolable anger.
He stands up and walks to the kitchen, where you turn around to smile at him as soon as you hear him coming, only to be greeted by his beautiful blue eyes contorted in pure rage. He must be a very scary adversary to his enemies. "What the fuck is this, (Y/n)?!" He asks while holding the recipt in his hand, speaking those words through gritted teeth, as if his jaw was frozen because of how angry he is.
"Wait, Touya, is not what it looks lik-" The villain slammed his fist on the kitchen island, flames emanating from it. "It's not?! Really, (Y/n)? Do you really think i'm this fucking stupid?” He is now yelling, very loudly. He starts getting closer to you, and you start walking backwards, trembling. He then takes one more step forward and you raise your arms as if you wanted to protect yourself. Now Touya is the one walking backwards. He would never hurt you, but as he took a step back, he realized that it really looked like it. Did you think that he was gonna incinerate you? Did you think he was about to hit you? The look on your eyes was too familiar, he had seen it in his mother's eyes way too many times. He sighed deeply as he burried his face in his hands. It seemed like he wanted to wake up from a nightmare, and then, as seconds went by and he wasn't lifting his head, you realized he might have started to cry, though he would never let you see him.
"That day-" you started speaking after several minutes, "I decided to stay at a different city because I heard about it being quiet and pretty. I thought maybe I could rent an apartment there, so you wouldn't be at risk. There isn't many people, it is indeed quiet, no one would recognize you, so I looked at a few places. There isn't anyone else I'm seeing, just apartments." Touya finally lifted his head from his hands, and you could see the relief in his eyes, but also a lot of guilt. A lot of it. He got closer, kneeling before you, pressing his forehead to your body, his hands clenching the coat that covered the sides of your frame. This was him apologizing. You caressed his hair softly, everything would be okay.
Tumblr media
KAI CHISAKI | OVERHAUL
He trusts you, he really does, but what is he supposed to believe when you tell him that you are going to the grocery store and you lie. He went there to help you in case you had bought too many stuff since it was taking you a while, but you were nowhere to be found. Minutes later, you come home, smelling like men's cologne that clearly wasn't his own.
God, this can't be happening, he thinks to himself. You walk to him, hoping to get a kiss from the yakuza, but instead you are greeted with a cold stare, his lips don't move when you place yours over them. "Where were you?" He asks visibly angry. "At the grocery store." You answered showing him the two bags on your hands. "All of these hours just for that? You really don't want to piss me off, (Y/n). Not more than you already did." Now his tone sounds like a threat, and you get defensive. "What is that supposed to mean?" You ask him. You have always hated whenever he would talk to you like you were one of his men, and he knew that. "Where did you actually go?" Unbelievable. You still didn't quite understand where he was trying to get, but you did know that you didn't like the way he was interrogating you. "Did you go out to meet with someone?" He asked, this time, impatience ruled over his voice. Okay, so he thinks you are cheating. great.
Leting out a heavy sigh, you dropped your bags on the floor and approached the hurting man before you. Much to your surprise, he allowed you to take his face in your hands. "I went out to get you a new cologne, I noticed you ran out of the last one I gave you. I wanted it to be a surprise, but it is in the car, in case you wish to have it now."
God, did he feel like an idiot right now... You could tell that he was beating himself up mentally. The worst part of it was that he felt truly relieved that you hadn't fallen out of love with him yet. Despise him attempting to seem indifferent earlier, he felt like his whole world was crumbling down before him. Kai then took your hands in his, kissing them softly. "I'm truly very sorry, darling." He said sincerly. "It's okay, I should've made up a better excuse anyway." You replied smiling gently. He couldn't help but smile back, still embarrassed with himself. He compensated you treating you to dinner that night. Kai saw himself realizing how strong he felt about you. The sole idea of you leaving made him feel vulnerable and terrified for the very first time in a while. He was going to need to learn how to trust you more if he didn't want to lose you.
Tumblr media
KEIGO TAKAMI | HAWKS
The pro hero had a lot of work all of the time. He would get home late very often, many times closer to sunrise than midnight. Of course, it was only logical for you to be asleep at those hours, which was always the case. Except for last week.
He had gotten home very late, but still earlier than usual, expecting to find his lover on his bed, hoping he could hold on to you for a couple of hours before he had to get to work once again, but you weren't there. Naturally, he freaked out, but just as he was about to go looking for you everywhere, the main door flew open. He hid on the bathroom, in case it was someone else, but all he saw was you getting on the bed and falling asleep almost instantly.
He let that incident go. He gave you the benefit of the doubt, he gave you his trust. This despite the uneasy feeling in his chest, however, today, you weren't on the bed either. Now the doubt felt very real. What on earth could you be doing at 4 am? He waited a couple of minutes, until you finally got home. The hero was trying his very best not to break down when he saw you. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this hurt. "That other bed must be really comfortable." He accused, startling you as you obviously weren't expecting to see him yet. "What?" you asked, a bit disoriented. "You heard me." Keigo then stood up from the couch, walking towards you. "How long have you been sneaking out for, huh? Cause this is the second time I witness this already" You realized how this looked immediately. Oops.
"Listen, Keigo, I'm not sleeping with anyone else. In fact, I'm not sleeping at all." The man looked at you confused now, all of the anger he previously showed you slowly disappearing. "I have been having trouble sleeping, so i go out and take walks in hopes i'll get tired, I'm sorry I worried you, yes?" You assured your lover as you took his hands in yours, offering him a tired smile. "But why? You used to sleep well before..." All of his previous worries seemed to be forgotten as soon as he realized how tired you looked, his hands roaming your face, as if they would figure out what had changed. "Yes, that was before you would leave all night, I guess I'm a bit more anxious now." You confessed. He felt very bad for adding to your already bad night with his insecurities. Soon after, though, Keigo managed to change his schedule, making sure to spend every night holding you, and he would be lying if he said he didn't miss you too. As for that particular night, he prepared you a tea and talked about his day until he made sure you had fallen asleep.

"Thank you for such wonderful comedy."
I've been wanting to talk about how MHA plays with the concepts of "fiction vs reality, the characters vs the actor, the world vs the stage" for awhile now, bc I believe understanding how MHA utilizes these concepts is pretty crucial to understanding our Big Bad (and Tomura!) (...and Izuku!) (.. etc!) (y-yeah...!!!) (wooo.....!!!!!)
If this post is more incoherent than usual, I apologize-- I'm just really enthusiastic about stories that play with the fact that they're stories and characters who throw themselves into a fictionalized role as a means of coping. I love the way MHA handles these concepts in particular, so I lost all sense of restraint as usual.
Hori: "I'm Like Dropping Hints That Hero/Villain Personas Are Actually Coping Mechanisms Lol"
Tumblr media
"As Tomura Shigaraki and Tenko Shimura, I've got just one wish: the total destruction of everything that created that house." "If my origin as Touya and Dabi was such a simple thing, then... No, there are still things I want to say. Arguments I want to have."
I've seen a few ppl saying that it sounds awkward/strange to have the characters repeatedly asserting themselves in the third person, but imo, the emphasis on real names versus hero/villain names during these particular scenes plays into the idea of the villain/hero identities being "alter egos" that might not actually have the same core desires as the """"actors"""" that are behind these personas.
Tomura and Touya invoke both their real and villain names while asserting their respective wishes. Himiko also invokes her villain name, though it's less obvious to english speakers because she uses her real name as her villain name (in the raws, "HIMIKO TOGA" as a villain name is written using katakana-- and this is what she uses when asserting her wish). MHA plays with the idea of "fiction"/"Alter Egos" as a form of escapism and as a coping method, and at this point in time, the Dabi/Tomura/"Himiko" identities are still being utilized as a crutch/mask by these three very hurt individuals.
Tumblr media
*loud, terrifying chanting* PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PE--
Ochako's fight being like the second most thematically important fight in the whole series still makes me unreasonably giddy btw.
To contrast, Ochako uses her civilian name alone when asserting her wish-- and imo we're meant to read this as Ochako wanting to save Himiko as herself, not as Uravity. Saving Himiko is not something she can accomplish as her alter-ego-- Ochako is able to save Himiko by stepping off the stage and becoming a "real" person, while also acknowledging the person behind "Toga Himiko (villain name)".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuku hasn't had his "I'm Izuku Midoriya"/"I'm-saving-you-as-Izuku-not-as-Deku" moment yet-- instead, we see Tomura intentionally making that distinction between the-hero-and-the-true-self by constantly referring to Izuku by his real, full name. And I'm pr sure Izuku is also the only one he does this to-- we see him referring to all the other heroes he encounters by their hero names alone, or by insulting nicknames (l-lol). Correct me if I'm wrong, tho!
(side note: Tomura switching to calling Izuku just "Hero" in the aftermath of Bakugate is actually a big step backwards imo-- it reads as Tomura trying to push Izuku away by shoving them both back in the hero/villain box and doubling down on enforcing their respective "roles." Not that I ever expected mister doomdere to make things easy, but, woof. Good Fuckin' Luck, Izuku ( ´・ω・) )
TL;DR The final arc has mostly been about tearing off the hero/villain masks to reveal who is hiding underneath— MHA's careful use of names and monikers plays heavily into that and its distinction between "alter-ego"/"true self" a lot. Which is... probably one of the many reasons why All For One still doesn't have a given name, as someone who has all but completely lost himself in his character.
Anyway! That brings us to the meat of this post: how does MHA take the concepts of "reality vs fiction" and "the character vs. the actor" and apply it to All For One (...and Tomura) (and Izuku--)?
"Pay No Attention to That Man Behind the Curtain!"
Tumblr media
"If you refuse to submit, then I'll just rewrite the story." - it's amazing how all of this coulda been avoided if someone had just introduced AFO to Demon Lord x Reader fanfiction. (/j)
AFO fancies himself as the author of MHA's greatest tragedy (the desecration of Shimura Nana's legacy via the sacrifice of Shimura Tenko), while simultaneously inserting himself into its overarching narrative and treating himself as the leading villain of the story-- it's self-indulgent and intentionally invasive in the way that most self-insert fanfiction tends to be invasive, with him going to extremes to make it seem as though the whole story revolves around him. AFO wants to be both the author and the leading character and the leading antagonist. This greed is typical of him, but it also establishes him as a character who's more caught up in (read: trapped by) his relationship to "fiction" than anyone else. Again, MHA explores the use of fiction and alter-egos as an escape from a painful reality-- so, it's entirely reasonable to assume that this applies to AFO as well.
To me, so much about AFO reads as an escapist fantasy of someone who is utterly terrified of being put in a position where he is truly seen. The idea of being vulnerable, of being naked, of being "human," is intolerable to him. But by not allowing himself to feel and "be a human," he has effectively cut himself off from what he wants most. The character of “Shigaraki Tomura” is as much an escapist fantasy for AFO as it is Tenko-- It's just another (younger, prettier) layer of skin he can hide his true self in.
"so basically you're saying that AFO is a never nude" yes, actually :)
AFO dehumanizes Tomura through his attempts to turn the boy into his personal comic book character, but he also dehumanizes himself by desperately trying to insert himself into that “character." It's only fitting that Tomura’s innate humanity and capacity for feeling ends up rendering AFO himself painfully, painfully human-- and ultimately causes AFO's carefully constructed character to start crumbling.
If All the World’s a Stage, Then Let’s Destroy the Stage
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"That stage is gone now. The theater's knocked down. How much longer can we afford to be spectators on the sideline?" "Once upon a time, a man named All Might showed all of us how to be a hero. But somewhere along the way, people forgot about the heart and soul that made the man." -MHA, Chapter 325
Tomura is attempting to destroy the stage, because without the stage there can be no "Shigaraki Tomura" (Or "All Might," or "All For One," or "Endeavor," etc etc etc). Without the stage, there are no more "characters" and no more tragedies. But-- without the stage, there are no more stories period. There are no more tragedies, but there are no more happy endings either. The world never recognizes the actor behind "Shigaraki Tomura" without the stage. The stage is not inherently a bad thing, so long as people can remember that the actors on the stage still exist outside of it.
But Tomura himself cannot imagine what happens after the curtains fall, and all that's left is Shimura Tenko. He is stuck in a role that was written entirely for someone else, but remains convinced that the role was always his and that the role defines him.
Tomura rebels against the story the only way he knows how--against an "author" who *LITERALLY* views him as a spicier self insert, and against a "setting" that treats his death as a happy ending-- but even so, Tomura still can't picture an ending that doesn't end in tragedy. His rebellion is not about him trying to wring a happy ending out of a miserable, mean-spirited book-- it's about burning the whole damn library down so he never feels let down or hurt by a story again.
Basically: Tomura cannot act outside the confines of his "character" in a way that will truly save him. Even as he rebels, he's rebelling in a way that is painfully consistent with the way his "character" is written-- and that's why AFO (the author) still poses such an enormous threat to him. Destruction cannot save him from this story when he was explicitly penned to destroy.
The only way to break this narrative is to act in a way "the author" doesn't expect, and to tap into all the traits that AFO desperately attempted to "write out" of him-- Shimura Tenko is someone who has always rebelled against his writing, his author, and the unfairness of this story with his kindness and his willingness to accept those that no one else will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AFO cuts off Tenko's own power at the root by reinforcing Tomura's belief that the world will always inherently reject him, without fail, always and forever-- so he should just reject the world, too (and I've talked at length about this before, but this is why a story that ends with Tomura dying or locked away from society is an ending that fails in its goal to save Tomura). The more Shigaraki Tomura rejects everything and the more Shigaraki Tomura is rejected by everything, the more he distances himself from his root and the source of his power-- and the more Shimura Tenko gets lost in this character.
While AFO is terrified of someone seeing behind his mask, Tomura longs for it. Tenko has been there since the beginning and has been begging for someone to finally see and acknowledge him (both in-universe and out of universe).
"I’ll Be There, Changing Fate by Your Side."
Tumblr media
AFO: "Blah Blah Blah Do you still believe myths can save you? Foolish creature. Let me be clear: every version of the story ends with you being slaughtered yadda yadda yadda :) :) :)" ENTER, MIDORIYA IZUKU WITH A STEEL CHAIR.
Izuku's role is that of a completely average boy who gets pulled into a narrative ''that wasn't for him"-- he has no heroic lineage, no hidden powers, and no connection to the centuries old conflict that drives the plot. He's just a boy who did the right thing at the right time and was rewarded for it. Izuku is someone who was "never supposed to be a hero" the same way Tenko was "never supposed to be a villain" per the "rules" of their world-- and Izuku, like Tomura, is someone who exists to destroy those rules and the expectations of their narrative, completely changing the ending.
But rather than burning the book and ending the story forever (like Tomura wants to do), Izuku believes that the story and characters can still be salvaged. There's always something worth saving. It doesn't have to be a tragedy, they can still change the ending. They can talk specifics after Tomura's crazy ass puts the lighter down.
Izuku, like Tomura and so many other characters, throws himself into an alter-ego in an attempt to redefine himself and escape from pain ("Nobody's been saved yet. Don't be the worthless old Deku who can't save anyone" 😬). He almost loses himself in the role of "OFA's torch bearer" the way All Might did-- but just as Izuku managed to find Toshinori Yagi and helped in convincing him that his life as Toshinori has meaning, Izuku ends up getting saved by his friends who couldn't care less about OFA's ~protagonist power~ and know that Izuku is just a goofy, awkward, human boy who needs help.
Like.... If we explore quirklessness as like... a narrative stand-in for characters that the story typically views or dismisses as irrelevant extras/npcs, then AFO's barely restrained anger at Izuku and Toshi (and possibly Yoichi if we're being honest) for daring to ''act beyond their roles'' becomes even funnier. AFO can't stand the idea of his power/the protagonist role being passed on to someone who seems so utterly unworthy, unremarkable, and plain. He can't stand the idea of someone without a quirk/"role" standing up to him, the leading character. Dude really is a toxic comic book fan to the core.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
afo really said "I didn't like how things were going so I stopped reading and just wrote a better ending to the story :^)" like...... @mhareddit that's u buddy...........................;
Anyway...........!!!!! AFO is someone who cherry picks what he likes about a story while ignoring the actual intent/message of the work (#theabsolutestateofthemhafandom), but he has no intention of breaking down the dichotomy between heroes/villains and instead actively enforces it (.............#theabsolutestateofthemhafan--). He just wants to flip what side wins in the end.
Tomura wants to break the narrative because he sees that as the only way to escape from his pain (but in doing so, he permanently cuts himself off from being a part of a story with a happy ending). He wants to destroy the dichotomy between heroes and villains because heroes and villains "will never understand each other and never stop creating each other" (lol. lmao, even).
Izuku wants to break the narrative because he's realized that there's something more to this story than your standard "Hero versus Villain," "good vs evil" affair and that he cannot explore what lies behind those masks and labels without tearing them down, first.
These three work together well as a narrative set of Fucking Nerds, and AFO works well as both Tomura and Izuku's villain for all of the above reasons (& also bc he's the only one who is actually benefitting from their current society) ((which basically offers him an endless buffet of hurt and angry children he can exploit on a silver platter)).
Anyway! Kick his ass, Izuku.

Idk what to tell to the people who still don't get that although is okay to teach kids the rules to live in a society (like respect others or don't kill or whatever), Kotaro Shimura, Enji Todoroki and Toga's parents didn't care as much for society rules as they care for the rules that made them feel okay at home.
Which in the end caused the main villain trio to reject authority and society and turn into violence, since they did try to use words as kids and were royally ignored.
Tenko, Touya and Toga tried very hard to be good kids, but in their parents conception it was not enough 'cause they couldn't repress some of their needs: they wanted their dads and moms to accept them as they were, to accept who they wanted to be, to accept the way they expressed love and accept the way they interacted with their surroundings.
In Tenko's case, Kotaro was unable to accept his kid desire to become a hero. His could be the worst case in bnha, given the violence of his tragedy and how misfortune (maybe even something else) played on it ending so badly. Tomura himself said that house rejected his very identity, even tho Hana tried to support him in secret and Nao stood up for him, little too late. For what we saw of him as a child, his only defect as a son was wanting to be a pro-hero, dream that got him beaten up for, grounded in a rather cruelly manner. Kotaro's trauma turned him into an irrational man, his hatred for heroes was both the build up and the catalysis of the tragedy that ended the lives of the people he loved the most.
Tenko didn't become a villain because he was an evil kid. He became a villain because AFO wanting it so and because Kotaro inculcated in him such extreme hatred.
In Touya's case, it's a bit more complicated. I don't believe Enji's obsession was completely evil in nature, although his actions were truly selfish and it became later abusive, when his desperation blinded him to the point he was unable to understand how bad he has turned out to be. Like in Tenko's case, the mother is at fault only in yhe sense that their lack of intervention allowed the situation to escalate 'til they couldn't prevent it anymore. Touya's case differentiates itself in the fact that he was older than Tenko, his behavior declining over the years into extreme violence, unlike the way Tenko exploded in murder glee when Kotaro hit him one last time.
The lack of proper attention from both Enji and Rei allowed Touya's behavior to become a tragedy. Their negligence, Enji's focus on his work and Shouto (as a project not a son) and Rei's role of a caretaker yet not a mother, combined with the incapacity of Natsuo and Fuyumi to understand what Touya was going through (really, only Shouto could, but at that point Touya hated him too much and Shouto was way too young)... Well, it didn't end well for a kid that didn't want help anymore but attention on his own terms. He was tired of adapting, the same way Tenko rebelled in his insistence of acting the hero way.
The same house rule ( YOU CANNOT BE A HERO ) sent them both to AFO's hands, one way or another. They were kids who couldn't act the way their dads wanted, so fuck them I guess.
That part is compatible to Toga's case. Kinda.
Toga's parents are by far the most twisted of the bunch, which is a lot to say considering that Kotaro hit his kids and Enji even hit his wife. Yet, without having to touch a single hair of their little girl, they inflicted damage so deep she preferred to become a runaway criminal than to stay at home one more day.
At least Kotaro and Enji valued at some level Tenko and Touya's existence. Toga's parents didn't care about her at all. She was as good as a broken doll, an imperfect piece of their furniture, something they wish wasn't related to them at all. Enji was at least worry about his son and he loved him at some degree, the same way Kotaro worry over Tenko was born out of his fear of losing his family. Nothing of it excuses what they do and let it be said that Enji and Kotaro did saw Touya and Tenko as monsters at some point (when Touya tried to kill Shouto and on his Dabi era, when Tenko killed his family and turned to Kotaro). Yet it doesn't compare to the way Toga's parents immediately erased her from their lives, even denying any affiliation. They sent her to that therapy like a car needing to be repaired. She was a sign of status, she was an object that they failed to produce, she was an aberration and a freak, she deserved to be put down.
From the three od them, Toga was the one who struggled the most to fit in socially, not to society standards tho. To her parents.
If all these parents had cared for their kids more than they cared for his own stupid rules maybe things would have been different. But that's the core of their problems, they don't need the whole world to accept them, they need to treat the internalized traumas their parents left them with, the self-hatred and the feeling of inadequacy and the need for acceptance (of themselves) and recognition.
That's why Toga, Izuku and Shouto are the key for their recovery. Acting as mirrors, they are meant to provide the closure the villain trio desperately need. It's not just a sibling or a nemesis bond, but a recognition of the self through the other situation.
If they can accept themselves and correct their ways and get free from their parents absurd rules, if they can move past the child need for their parents validation, maybe they can finally exist in a less painful way.

BNHA 406 Review!! SPOILERS AHEAD
Tumblr media
Love to see her again, resisting the pain and injures. And she really integrated the idea of Izuku as a hero...remembering him by his actual name, as it was the only thing left in this world...It's kind of endearing.
Tumblr media
You're prettier every time I see you, Shiggy. That's not fair.
Tumblr media
And this little guy over here is gorgeous every chapter too. But he's so haggard. There are probably so many emotions buttling up inside him...(I don't know how to interpret his panels anymore)
Tumblr media
I really want to know what's up with this hole in his hand. Shiggy obteined it way back at PLF war, but I still don't understand where it came from. That's from AFO's quirk, right? With that hole is that he and AFO steals quirks from others?
Tumblr media
Funny to see you trying to convince yourself of a lie. Try harder, Shigaraki.
Tumblr media
That's the face of a maniac. A guy who's laughing at his own pain, a guy who's hitting on the pavement, flying in an insaly high speed...I love him.
Tumblr media
Your face is so pretty Mitsuki. I hate you...but you're so pretty.
Tumblr media
So it's canon?? IT'S CANON THAT AFO KILLED HIS OWN BROTHER!?! I'm not going to lie: I always supported the idea of 2nd user being the one who actually killed Yoichi...as a way of saving his life because AFO would take him capture again AND also as a way of not letting AFO win with the sweet achievement of getting rid of his own brother...but now that it's canon that AFO killed Yoichi...I like it. Love to know it... Some really good angst there. And now we can most likely say that AFO was crying because of that.
Tumblr media
I like this part, right here.
AFO is a narcissistic who does not respect nor see other people besides him. So the simple idea of him actually recognizing someone as a person, like he does with Izuku, All Might or Tomura, is a big deal, but then...the idea of him recognizing someone as a threat...That's HUGE!! EXTRAORDINARY!! UNTHINKABLE!!

Wait, that's 2nd holder's name?? THAT'S 2ND HOLDER ACTUAL NAME??!! I've been...ages...wanting to know what is his true name...And...I accept it. If that's canon, I'm going to embrace it as it is, as the new information we got...But I don't like it. Sorry, but kUdO as his name??!! Could it not be another one?!? There were not other options??! I only like the fact that it starts with a K, similar to K-atsuki. (And how do we mix it with Yoichi's?? How is that even possible?? Kudoichi?? Yodo??).
Tumblr media
I don't like that paraphrase of this sentence but the concept it's undertandable.
Good chapter. I was getting impatient, and also the idea of 'Kacchan Bakugo' was getting on my nerves. But now: I'm good.

Hii I’ve stumbled across a few of your posts and haven’t even gleaned the tip of the iceberg that is your blog, but I would love to hear a more fleshed version of your Bakugo with AFO post (if you have more that you wanted to share), because that is such a cool concept???
Like, it’s such a nice way to address the symbiotic nature of the two quirks + Bakugo’s relationship with Midoriya at the same time, and there’s also so much to explore in terms of the repercussions of that (not just the symbolism of it, but also the parts you’ve mentioned like what that would mean for people who’ve had their quirks stolen, how they will deal with all the stockpiled quirks, or even on a wider scale of how the media would react if AFO/OFA is leaked/ revealed to the public).
Just imagine the amount of continued exploration in terms of the nature of quirks v nurture of society, because AFO/OFA has so far been (imo) one of the few evidence that quirks carry personality, which is so awesome because it’s like saying a quirk literally holds a part of you through the vestiges while demolishing this idea through basically the entire plot of the manga loll. (To phrase it slightly better, the manga is sort of reaching the conclusion that a quirk is a part of you and you only, without being all of you, and that it’s exactly what the name says it is: a quirk.)
The thing I don’t really like about this conclusion is the blatant disregard for the quirkless community, which was the initial point of discussion and social commentary in bnha. This is why I think Bakugo being given AFO would be great fuel for the debate of should we be allowed to mess with the quirks we are given.
As in, who gets to decide? Who gets to play god? How will it be regulated? Should it even be regulated? How do you do all that without dehumanising Bakugo the same way society dehumanised pro heroes? (Bonus points for linking this to real life because I’m all for social commentary/ reflections in fictional media)
And then on a personal level, what will it take for Bakugo to be able to control AFO’s personality (hello, eye symbolism + name symbolism) within the quirk? How will All Might handle this info? How does this all relate to the conflict of children in war? The development of the league of villains’ character plots (esp Tomura’s)?
I have a lot of questions with very few answers loll, I would love to hear your thoughts on this!!
this post, for reference
Gosh, I am so sorry for taking forever to answer this. But you ask so many good questions! And I think this is actually a pretty good time, after 419.
I guess where I stand with the idea now is still somewhat ambiguous. All for One as a power is too big and interesting to go away--or at least, if it did go away, it would speak volumes. It feels like an almost elemental, fundamental, and even spiritual power, something beyond the man himself. So I'm still wondering about its future.
While a lot of other characters' narratives, including Katsuki's, are about this "nature of quirks vs. nurture," with the original Japanese name for quirks literally meaning "individuality" ("個性" or "kosei"), All for One (the power) oddly represents a lack of individuality. Like a shapeshifter with no form of its own. With that in mind, might we actually compare it to quirklessness? This is worth considering if we're trying to guess who might be a fitting person to inherit it.
I'm at least certain that Tenko shouldn't keep it, since he was literally groomed for it, to be a vessel. For him it represents a lack of individuality in the absolute worst way: a lack of agency, and an identity determined by/in the image of someone else since before even the moment of conception. Actually, as of 419, it seems like if there is any echo of him left after being possessed again, Tenko needs to get rid of the quirk. If he is able to regain control for even a second, the most logical action he can take to save himself and do something of his own free will for once, is to pass the quirk on to someone else.
What I'm a little less certain about is who should get it. On the one hand, Katsuki has a very strong sense of self, especially now. As I said before, this would make him an interesting candidate because he wouldn't want AFO, and thus wouldn't use it for his own gain, on principle. However...
In between now and when I wrote that little post, the future of One for All has also become ambiguous. Does Tenko have it even though All for One does not? (because of Izuku's intent in passing it on?) I've wondered for a long time what would happen if OFA and AFO combined. Would they become more than the sum of their parts, creating something new? Maybe something that can connect with other people and build them up? Perhaps it would develop some aspect of agency that takes away its capacity to exploit people. I'm just speculating...
And I haven't wanted to talk about it, but I'm ambivalent about Izuku becoming quirkiness again. As in, I think Horikoshi could pull it off either way. So this is just an idea:
Izuku could also be a candidate for AFO because he lacks a sense of self, in his own way, as I've gone into before. At best, this means a lack of an ego, the opposite of AFO's personality. In AFO's words, Izuku is the boy born with nothing, who now has less than nothing. There's also a nice symmetry to this idea: Izuku giving OFA to Tenko, then Tenko giving AFO to Izuku. It would be interesting to see what the power would be like in the hands of its antithesis.
But like I said, if you ignore AFO's own selfish interpretation of the power as a tool for domination and a sign of his natural superiority, its essence is a lot more comparable to quirklessness. Just as one's quirk does not encompass one's entire self even though it is unique to them, so too does the quirk have potential beyond its user's point of view. It is potentially ideal for someone who wouldn't make it a part of who they are or use it to enforce their desires, and this applies to both Izuku and Katsuki.
The final thing to mention from your question is the possibility that whoever received AFO would have to deal with overcoming his possession. Maybe this is too much for one person to handle. Maybe Katsuki plays into this either way.

[excerpt]
She really didn’t know what to expect the first time she went back to Shigaraki’s place for a study session after their… discussion . They were trying to find a new normal — one that didn’t involve yelling and backsliding and sex, and two out of the two previous attempts at this had been completely unsuccessful.
Needless to say she had some serious doubts that any of this was going to work. She wasn’t sure that it was possible to ever just be friends with Tomura Shigaraki. And she was really scared of what that meant. Best case scenario, it meant that they probably would never see each other again.
And that thought pained her way more than she’d ever admit.
So she was pretty surprised when she entered his apartment that day and found not the usual empty living room, but Shigaraki himself, spreading out his textbooks on the dining table. And Kurogiri too, assembling a delightful little tray of snacks and braising a rack of lamb in the attached, open-concept kitchen with no signs of leaving the room.
“What’s going on here?”
Shigaraki answered simply, “Tutoring.”
“Down here?”
“I’ve got my own work to do today, so I thought a set-up like this made more sense,” he answered.
Wait… had Shigaraki actually set up their session in the living room, a public place, where they couldn’t get out of control?
“Did you have somewhere else in mind?” he asked.
Without even thinking, she answered, “I, uh, I guess I’m just surprised that you don’t want to do it in your room.”
Shigaraki smirked, “Do you want to go to my room?”
“N-No, this is fine!” she squeaked, eagerly taking her seat, “This is great, actually.”
He chuckled and tossed a stack of practice tests to her side of the table.
“Here are the study guides you missed. Review ‘em and then you should do a couple practice tests since you’re behind.”
She looked up at him with a scowl, fully ready to rebuke and rebuttal whatever snarky comment or patronizing smirk he’d throw her way for why she was behind. But there was no judgment or passive aggression waiting for her. He’d just stated it simply and opened his own laptop to work. It didn’t matter how long she waited either, no dig came. If he was holding onto any bitterness right now, it didn’t show.
Feeling her stare, Shigaraki glanced up, “What?”
“N-Nothing!” she dropped her head to dive into her work, praying to God that he didn’t see the red dusting her cheeks, “Just zoned out so… Yeah, nothing.”
His mouth twitched up. He absolutely did notice. But he chose not to say anything about it, instead pushing his laptop across the table towards her.
“Hey, what do you think of this paragraph?”
She looked back up at him, beyond surprised, “You want my help?”
“I want your opinion ,” he corrected pointedly.
She turned the laptop towards her, still a bit baffled, but looking over the document on screen regardless.
“I had the first two sentences switched originally,” he explained, “But I’m wondering if it actually makes a difference.”
She read through the section a few times before scrolling back to the intro paragraph.
“It’s for a history class?” she asked as she read over his thesis, “Not creative writing or anything?”
“Right.”
“I’d go with the way you had it,” she answered, turning the laptop back to him, “It connects more directly to your thesis statement.”
“Hm,” he made the switch and then reread his work, wondering aloud, “Do you think I should just cut the second sentence entirely?”
“No, no, it’s not fluff or anything. But when you open with that sentence, it definitely reads as more of a decorative lead-in rather than supportive evidence.”
Shigaraki nodded thoughtfully as Kurogiri approached with their snack tray.
“Can I get you any coffee or tea?” he asked her as he set it down on the table in front of her.
“Coffee sounds great. Thanks!” she said, her mouth watering at the assortment of stupidly expensive-looking snacks on display.
Kurogiri nodded politely and turned to his ward, “Tomura Shigaraki?”
He didn’t look up from his screen when he answered, “We got any barley tea?”
She paused, the leaning charcuterie tower of baked brie, duck salami, roasted fig, and truffle crackers she’d assembled stopping just short of her lips.
“Yes, I just picked some up yesterday,” Kurogiri answered, pointedly holding back the “by your request” that sat on the tip of his tongue.
“I’ll take that hot.”
“Right away.”
She couldn’t fight the smile that it all brought to her face. It made her charcuterie masterpiece taste all the better.

nal. if you're still doing these. 🌧️🌧️🌧️i believe in you 🌧️🌧️🌧️
🌧️Share something angsty from your WIP.
😈😈😈 thank you kota thank youuuuuuu
Prisons like Tartarus, and Iron Maidens; 24/7 full body restraints, solitary confinement, induced comas and long-term sedation; the Targeted Instant Elimination System— As punishments, they are not cruel and not unusual. They’re used around the world and has become basic detention methods. According to most governments around the world, they are not degrading; they are not inhumane. Quirks has changed the standards of what it means to be human; and thus, what indignities are considered allowable for a human to experience and suffer through has also changed... [...] When one is deemed as having lost the privilege of being called human; when one is seen as barely human at all, there are no human laws, morals, or social norms can’t be suspended to contain such a beast. But it goes the other way too. If you aren’t considered a person; and if you too come to not consider yourself as belonging to the group of beings called ‘people’, then human laws, morals, or social norms don’t apply to you. Human connections and community have no meaning. Concepts like belonging, compassion, or the future do not exist. After that, there is nothing a beast such as you can’t do to an actual person.
tho i have to wonder if this is angst? Or just me on a soapbox.
Well. If not, and with all the rainy cloud emojis, here's Spinner angst:
"I..." I want to follow him. I want to help him. I want to see his dream come true. I want— "Don't worry about it," Spinner mutters. "It's nothing important. Doesn't really matter." Because it doesn't. There's not anything to do, these are just feelings that tumble around inside of him, just dreams that he can't control until he wakes up. That's all there is and that's fine. Spinner knows the step after realization is... confession, but he won't be doing that. Confess to Shigaraki Tomura. Sounds crazy. Shigaraki doesn't have time to deal with things like romance or dating or whatever this is. Plus— I'd been an empty shell. It's why I hate everything. Every living, breathing thing just rubs me the wrong way. Where's room for —love— in all that rage? Shigaraki has given the League enough proof that he tolerates them, trusts them, might even like them, that they are exempt from 'Destroy Everything', but a small quiet part of Spinner wonders. What's after annihilation? What happens when there's nothing else to destroy? Never mind that the probability some of them won't survive this apocalypse is certain enough. The thing about that rage, Spinner knows - has felt himself - is how it's fueled by grief, which itself is a bottomless black hole that can and will smother and eat away at everything. You'll never be able to get back what's lost, and whatever manages to regrow, breaking through that dead-dry ground, is never the same. Colder, smaller, uglier. It's hard. It's survival. There's only essentials and the little space left available is for very precious things. For the few special memories, for fleeting moments of peace, for wild hopes and dreams. Those dreams of Shigaraki's, Spinner will protect. For him, that's enough. Already more than he had ever hoped for.

The most recent mua arc has really been bugging my, there's some small things that have just made it feel off. These are just my opinions and I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.
I feel like this is obviously but spoilers ahead.
Most of my issues revolve around AfO so let's start way before the war arch when he was introduced.
So towards of the series we're introduced to the concept of AfO. Big old scary villain that's been around since the dawn of quirks. A comic book villain that foils well with Allmights whole comic book hero vibe.
Kamino rolls around and he's still filling that roll and is a reasonable big bad bc he is, as I said a foil to All Might, they also both act as mentors to Shigy and Izuku respectively. who retires after sending AfO to Tartarus.
And here's where my issues with him start, he comes back full force along side Tomura. I think thematically AfO should not of been involved in the war. Shigy vs Izu makes more sense than Shigy/AfO vs Izu (now technically All Might gets involved with his stupid mech suit but that's currently irrelevant)
Like there's a whole theme of passing the torch, more with Allmight and Izuku but when AfO gets locked up it really seems like the main conflict will move on to Izuku and Shigy.
But nope suddenly oh AfO is back, and Allmight sorta but it's really not the same and the previous power dynamic has completely shifted.
Now onto motivations.
Prior to the war AfO's motives were unknown. Then he rolls up fresh outa jail like I'm the demon king I'm going to take over the world. And compared to the darker undertones of the show its just so jarring to throw in at the last arc (and everytime he is referred to as demon King I can't take him seriously) now if this was Known earlier I think it would of worked fine with the comic book villain to All Mights comic book hero vibe.
And they had a lot they could of done with AfO, he was born during the dawn of quirks when people with quirks were discriminated against and hunted. There's so much possibility for a villain trying to change the system in his own twisted way.
Now we know from his backstory (narratied by him should probably be taken with at least a small a grain of salt) he is incredibly cold and possessive, he saw his brother as nothing more than something that belonged to him.
And this does solidify what we know of his character and with this in mind the demon king thing makes sense but was so sudden it just feels out off
Now onto more of why he's ridiculous. His regeneration quirk turned him back so far that HE DIES BC HE REWOUND HIMSELF TO BEFORE HE WAS BORN and the fact that Bakugou is the one to cause this.
The incredibly small amount of respect I may of had for AfO has completely vanished.
But tldr: AfO's character is a mess and completely ridiculous.

Do you have any favorite volume extra sketches? (mha)
Tumblr media
Characters as animals (featuring Raki Raki <3)
Tumblr media
Keigo and Touya with Endeavor
Tumblr media
Keigo and Hawks (same thing with that illustration of Nagant and her child selves, but that's not a volume extra)
Tumblr media
Thirteen's design is so
Tumblr media
The way his expression is drawn here just makes me laugh lol
Tumblr media
I love characters who don't normally interact interacting. Also, I realized recently the scribbles underneath are their bodies. I honestly thought they were like the neck, half drawn shoulders, the beginning of their shirts and then it stopped there, but no. It's tiny scribbles of their bodies. Hori CANNOT draw chibi. And so this makes me laugh too sdnfsdnifks
Tumblr media
I love these Dabi final war arc concept designs AAAA idk they scratch smthg in my brain, I sorta wish there were more
Tumblr media
Nejire, her besties and her gf being cute
Tumblr media
This is just cute to me?? I love Hori's love of background characters
Tumblr media
HIS HAIR HIS MANE LOOK AT HIM POSE
Tumblr media
Heroes and their villains (except Tomura and Izuku)
Tumblr media
OBI SKETCH OF IZUKU SAYING TOMURA'S SMILE IS NICE (technically not an extra but apparently it is something you get with the volume so)
Tumblr media
Again, Hori's love of background characters shining through. For me, it's not so much the info itself as it is the fact that Hori literally dedicated an entire page to explaining News Reporter Backstory
Tumblr media
I remember this being the first sketch of Tomura I saw for a volume extra, so I really like it. The translation for this one is Tomura saying "Hooray." with a serious face lol
Tumblr media
MON CHAN PAWS
Tumblr media
I laugh every time I see this one. The translation coming from the plane is "You forgot your parachute!" and Best Jeanist jumps out saying "Unnecessary!". Hori can be really fucking funny
Tumblr media
BEHOLD. A MAN!! I love him
Tumblr media
This one and the symbolism behind it, since it was in the volume where Bakugou pushes Izuku aside and gets stabbed. I tend to think of it as a less intense version of that one Volume 30 cover concept Hori shared, but with the same symbolism. It still has me head-in-hands anyway and I love the meaning behind it
There's probably more but that's all I have atm

concept drawl ... tomura shigaraki x reader
Tumblr media
Tomura Shigaraki hasn't seen you express real happiness in his entire time of knowing you. There's always a wall of toughness that you build with hard brick to prevent anybody from ever getting in. And maybe that's his fault, but it wasn't like he ever asked to be put in this house with you and told to get better.
He knows you've been thrown into this stress just as he has. You're not even a top hero, just barely making it up here. Yet you're tasked with housing Japan's number one supervillain of your time, to feed and clothe him, and to talk to him. Teach him things. Show him how to be good to people, normal. Whenever he goes to say something to you unprompted, you bring a hand to your face to massage your temple. Your eyebrows furrow and your resting face frown deepens.
This morning he actually tried to make you smile by waking up early and sneaking into the kitchen to attempt breakfast. Instead, he found out about the alert that goes off when he exits his bedroom door between the hours of 11 pm to 6 am (the hours you're asleep.) You'd jumped from your bed at the sound, an hour before you normally wake up, and stormed into the hallway to catch him.
Before he could say a thing, you were drilling him on staying in bed and listening for once. Things you never would have said if you weren't half asleep, but he didn't know that. He was hurt. He thought he'd been doing a good job of pretending to be somebody with a heart.
You had no hope in him, just like he thought. Everything he did, everything he said, was evil to you.
After your outburst, you started trembling. He saw it in your shoulders and felt it in your hands as you ushered him back into his room and shut the door on his face. It wasn't the first time a hero had shut him out, but it hurt more than it had in a long time as you were someone he'd spent every waking moment with for the last few months.
Tonight, Tomura sits in bed completely still and thinks about what he's done to lead up to this rehab, and what his future will look like. He imagines it will soon be himself strapped to a chair in a high security prison with a white jumpsuit and guns to his head. It will probably hurt, and you might be there initiating it.
"I just couldn't do it anymore," you will say, "he is the most disgusting human being I've ever met. I can't even look at him. It makes me sick."
This will make him cry, and then he will die.
Before he has time for any more bad thoughts to manifest, there's a gentle knock on the door followed by your voice. "Tomura, can I please come in?"
"Whatever."
You're still dressed in the same pajamas from earlier, but you're holding two plates of food that look mouth-wateringly good to he who hasn't eaten since last night's dinner. He was nervous about leaving his room, not wanting to stir anything up. You approach him shyly before offering the plate to him and sitting on the floor with your own. It's mashed potatoes and seasoned chicken breast, with some corn. He loves when you make food instead of ordering, even if he never admits it. It makes him feel appreciated in a way he hasn't been before. His villain life was full of fast food and really gross pizza.
"I'm proud of you, Tomura." His fork catches on his tongue as he stares at you with a subtle expression of shock and confusion. "I just.. I've been really stressed out. It's hard. I'm only 23. I don't come from a family of heroes or anything like that, so I've been trying to make a real name for myself forever, and the first time I'm recognized is for this. It's not that I don't love getting to help you, if I can call it that, but it's just not what my heart has always wanted. I'm made to fight, you know? I was eating boxed macaroni until you. I'm not a very.. domestic person."
This is the most Tomura's ever heard you speak, let alone lament at all. You've always been a private person, at least towards him, and he didn't really press for the personal stuff because 1. he didn't really care for a while, and 2. he'd hate if you did the same back to him.
But the way you're looking at him like he's real and physical makes him want to tell you about everything he's been through. All of the abuse and the dead friends and family he's struggled to say goodbye to and never told anyone about.
"Hey, that makes two of us, y/n."
"What part?"
"Oh. The fighting part."
"Right," you nod with a line-lipped smile and a mouth full of delicious food. Floor food... must be nice, right? He starts to feel guilty about the difference in level, so he slides off the bed to join you. "But I promise you, I don't regret any of this. I just.. thought I'd tell you so you know why I suck so bad at keeping cool and being all patient."
Tomura watches a singular tear well in your eye before you wipe it away nonchalantly and pretend it wasn't ever there. He's done that a few times before, but he doesn't really cry much anymore. Not as much as he did when he was young.
"I think you're better at it than you think you are," he says as he scoops some buttery potatoes onto his spoon, "sometimes, like when we're watching TV or cooking together, it kind of feels like you're my wife or something."
Really, he wouldn't have said it if he knew what was coming out of his mouth when he did. Words were just slipping off his tongue without him having any sort of control. It could be the food, or it could be your eyes. Still, it's true. He's developed a strange fascination with you (though he's convinced himself it's the proximity that's made him feel this way and not you specifically, like he'd fall for anybody if they gave him the chance.)
You're looking for the mischief in his eyes, just in case he's trying to fuck with you, and when you can't find it you awkwardly laugh off the comment and glue your eyes to your half eaten dinner instead.
"Yep. Definitely sticking to the fighting scene after this," you joke. Tomura's ears perk at the "after" but he doesn't dare question yet in fear of the answer. Where will he go "after" this? Can he stay with you, forever? Will you let him?
"Well, why not?"
"What do you mean?"
"Let's brawl."
"You don't know what you're getting yourself into," you smile at him, flexing your arm. "Don't you forget they've taken your quirk. You're skin and bones."
"Try me!"

Dunno why, but I'm starving for a concept of Dabi getting emotionally attached to one person without any sexual tension (only mutual comfort and sense of silent peace between them) and hypersexual with others but without any emotional bonds. And maybe feeling a bit confused because there is no will to forcefully "fix“ it on the other side of relationship, if they both feel at ease that way. Yes, Kurogiri is still an aroace ✨royality✨ for me, but I feel like Spinner would work better that it. If you think that I'm wrong, prove it to me. I'm waiting.
You're so right. Omg. You're so based, I'm-- aaa
Okay so like, while I do feel like Dabi would fall somewhere on the ace spectrum, i also feel like he'd have hypersexual episodes, sexualize himself a lot, and kind of be conditioned to expect to be sexualized and objectified a lot (whether it be bc of grooming/csa hcs, hc he did survival sex work while he was homeless, etc) and in my hcs he's got consent issues and kinda goes with it. Plus, like, Touya never really had any type of support or safe people all his life, even as a kid he didn't have friends, he never had anyone. So for him to bond with somebody without sex being a factor on either side, he'd probably be confused about it but it'd be so interesting to explore.
So I love this concept and I'm also starving for it, especially with either of these two. It's hard to find content for Kurogiri & Dabi or Dabi & Spinner, probably bc they don't have a lot of canon interaction but like, personally I really love these dynamics. I'm a big spinnerdabi shipper and it's hard to find spinnerdabi content (with just them, minus Tomura) I think the idea of them as a QPR or just as besties is a really good one and I think it'd work for this concept too. Kurogiri & Dabi I have quite a lot of hcs for and really like the idea of them, too. Especially bc I feel like they could relate on things that no one else in the league can REALLY relate to them with (the experimentation at the hands of afo/ujiko, which left them "less than human," being created as tools for someone elses' desires (in Touya's case, twice), both coming directly from hero background and probably expecting to be saved by heroes just to be abandoned and essentially forgotten about, the list goes on) they'd be able to see and understand each other without patronizing or pitying each other too much. Plus I also love the aroace Kuro hc, so like. I'm so on board, dude.

Lets Talk About: MHA 382 And The Misconception On How To Handle Himiko Toga
Sssup ya’ll! Hope your days been good so far! As for me? Well, past few days have been…interesting. Especially with how i’ve seen people reacting to the leaks and unofficial translations before the actual chapter came out.
I was going to talk about the entire chapter as a whole but I think it’s more important to talk about Himiko right now.
To start with let's talk about her current state, as of now Himiko is using Jins blood to use his 'Parade' move to bolster her allies ranks as well as turn into copies of Shigaraki, AFO and Dabi. The fear was that she'd be able to use their quirks as well but as Tsuyu says below that doesn't seem to be the case.
Tumblr media
This pulls us in more into her mental state more and furthers something else that we've been seeing from Himiko. And that's if THIS is what she really wants at all.
Remember Himiko Toga joined the LOV originally so that she could be free to be herself. Society failed her, her parents failed her in both not understanding her child and forcing her to push herself down. The actions taken caused her to break, to have her personality warp and meld into what it is today.
Himiko Toga isn't insane, she's killed people and she does have the tendencies but she's not insane. Furthermore, she values those that love her for her and none did more than Twice.
That man was like a brother to her, and she couldn't comprehend why he was killed. Why the heroes who were supposed to save people were killed him. Himiko Toga loves greatly and largely and although that love could maybe be confused with admiration and is corrupted by tendencies that she cannot control it's still llove.
Which is why it's breaking her that she seemingly can't use the people she supposedly loves powers.
Tumblr media
It calls into question her beliefs, the very core of her being but you see she's able to use Twices clones because she loves Him.
She doesn't love AFO and though she may have at one point she may not love the current Dabi and Shigaraki.
Let me make it clear that Dabi has really only been using the LOV for his own ends, don't let fanon confuse you for canon that may is manipulating everyone in his efforts to kill his father and his family. As for Tomura? Well---he's not really Tomura right now is he? He's a puppet for AFO right now even if he is fighting it.
At the end of the day, they're using Himiko to kill. Just to kill, that's never really been the end all for her. It's not her goal, it's not her only purpose in life.
Just being told to kill and kill and kill, that ALL HEROES MUST DIE? Is not something she wants, not really... She wants to destroy the things she doesn't like so she can be herself but that doesn't mean she wants to destroy everything. She doesn't want to destroy the people she loves and admires.
But she doesn't see it that way. She sees it as her not being able to love properly, that she's once again failing to understand the concept to the people that should be the most important to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It brings her to tears---and seeing someone, even someone like Himiko, in tears gets her on Ochacos radar.
Because here and now...Ochaco is going to try and SAVE Himiko Toga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, people don't agree with that.
See, recently i've found that people have been calling for her death as of late. People have been criticizing Ochaco for seemingly wanting to help Toga in some way due to the look in her eyes and I have to say that if you agree with that---you've not been paying attention.
If you're one of the people who are saying things like, and I quote, “she’s killed alot of people just for fun, ya’ll are simps, its okay to be a serial killer if you’re cute, nah screw Toga, literally serial killer., need the punisher to teach these heroes how its done" then you have missed the ENTIRE point of one of the KEY THEMES of this story.
This was never going to end with a hug, this is a huge fight in the war and i have no doubt that Himiko and Ochaco are going to come to blows. Hell, they already have but you see here's the thing.
There's a huge difference between forgiveness and understanding.
Himiko may not get forgiveness from the people she's wrong but she sure as hell deserves understanding. We've seen it from day one that this world is not black and white, it has always been gray something that Midoriya has been through his entire life and something he admits verbally with is fight with Nagant.
If there were more people like Izuku Midoriya in the hero business people like Tomura and Himiko wouldn't have gone down the tracks they've been on. It's a whole key thing in the story, one Hori seems to be about to use Uravity to expand on. But simply killing Himiko isn't the answer, hell--its why Spinners followers stopped following him during the hospital battle.
Understanding is what is needed her--killing Himiko devalues everything about the 1A kids as a whole as well as the story.

Wouldnt it be cool if Shigaraki/Tenko was the one to kill AFO (like in his mind)?? Maybe with a bit off from Deku ofc
I have mixed opinions about it. I'm not talking from the meta or narrative analysis side, but from what I'd like to read.
Then I started reading other peoples opinions and reflecting about it. I think I just got tired of AFO in general. I don't know why, there's not really a good explanation. It's something more subjective. Even when AFO is the one who kick-started the story, the haha world is so much more than him. There were many problems, many situations that have him involved, but he was not the only reason behind what happened. I was ready to move on, for the story to leave the beginning behind and for Tomura and Deku to own AFO and OFA.
At first I kinda wanted that exact scenario, with Tomura being the one erasing AFO because he embodies the people who suffered the most at his hands. It was a full cycle for me.
I've mentioned before, but I really liked how AFO died at Bakugo's hands. I thought it was very poetic. I'm very fond of Bakugo as a character, I really like how he started so flawed and how he built himself to become such a great kid. He's still learning, but he's getting there. The idea of him killing AFO was amazing to me. I was sooo happy to see a "secondary character" killing AFO. It was the most miserable death. AFO suffered, he was humiliated, it was awesome. It was a good way to show that one person doesn't have to do every single thing, because to that point almost every character was fighting and doing their part.
I thought it was an interesting choice for bnha to have the big bad being taken out by a secondary, leaving the protagonist to save and not to kill. It was cool that Tomura was being saved to. Maybe him not killing AFO was the point after all. He has done so much on his own, does he have to kill AFO to? Doesn't he deserve to be saved either by his friends or the people fighting to give him a second chance?
Honestly???
I wanted the League of Villains to save Tomura.
I thought that nothing would be more important to him than to be saved by his friends. They are his family, you know. I think the LOV had the right to kill AFO for what he did to Tomura, one of the people they love, respect and admire the most. I wanted the villains to be his hero. Tomura fought for the outcasts and they fought back for him.
Right now, Deku and Tomura teaming up to kill seems like a generic shone ending to me. Not bad or out of place. It's a "uh okay" and move on type of ending.
I thought it'd be funny if the story was like "this evil man has a hidden plan beware! beware! he'll be back!" only to reveal it was truly over. He was dead. Even AFO was just another person that died as a crying baby denying his fate, his mortality, the fragility of the man. I also always praised bnha for not bringing people back over and over, but sticking to the finality of a wound or a death.
It raises the stakes, you know?
So when the villain comes back and comes back and comes back and— okay, we get it, he's evil and smart and he wants world dominance and all that. What else? Him again?
Tomura's story could have been closed without an AFO come back. It wouldn't be less meaningful. Many victims are forced to move one without the subject of their trauma there to confront. At that point, it'd be a relief to see Tomura facing his own past without AFO there or at least knowing that the man who traumatized him was dead.
I want to see the LOV. I wanted to see Kurogiri with Tomura again. I wanted to see the reaction of the world watching Deku and Tomura emerge together from that fight. They didn't have to be there to witness, Tomura and Deku had their connection and it was only for them to know.
I'm rambling, I know. Sorry :( it's just that I wanted to explain that I don't dislike the idea of what you suggested, but it's also not my favorite concept anymore.

this may be an odd request/question but i just finshed lfls and it was SO PERFECT in every way i loved it, and then i went on your ao3 to view your other works and saw an unfinished my hero fic with another really cool concept but it's unfinished and from 2019. would you ever consider picking it back up again?
Ohhh you're speaking about Way Out of Character.
I'm still very found of my writing for that one! It had some very fun jokes in it and set up a way to make some really interesting character growth, both positive (for Tomura) and negative (for Midoriya).
Unfortunately that was the big one that made me learn the hard way that I had to plan better if I didn't want to get stuck on literally every chapter. I don't think I thought through the planned ending well enough, and really ended up getting fully stuck up a creek without a paddle.
Plus, my interest in My Hero has waned a lot; I stopped reading the manga entirely since then.
MAYBE I would revisit it one day, but I would not count on that one. I would have to revisit the source material which I'm currently simply not inclined to do.

Puttin’ On the Ritz came on shuffle and for whatever reason I thought of BMB daddy Tomura in a hot killing montage. Like just stepping out of his car dripping in a button down that hugs his muscles just right and blowing someone’s brains out and coming home to you with blood on his collar and just ravaging you okay I’m fucking done lmao >_>
omg anon!!!!!!!! i can see where ur coming from and i love it!!! omg see u got me with the blood on the collar; i have like,, a thing for blood splattered artfully across a crisp starched shirt, idk why i guess it’s just the thought of a (visually) well put together man wearing extremely expensive clothes speckled with someone else’s blood—like that concept of an elegant sophisticated man who’s actually a psychotic cold-blooded killer underneath those designer clothes?????? i fucking love it (*/ω\*) bonus points if he’s got bits of brain and skull on his loafers or the hem of his trousers!!!!!!!! there really is something so sexy about the idea of tomura on a fuckin RAMPAGE and then just coming home to fuck you while he’s still all hopped up on the adrenaline, the thrill of the kill, and whatever else he’s shoved up his nose or down his throat <33
i’ve fixated on that one detail and now i’ve gone almost completely off track LMAO but anyway anon!!! i did actually write something similar to this a very long time ago where tomura tortures a guy who’s been bothering u and then comes home to fuck the life out of you!! i’m not sure if you’ve already read it but u can find it right here if you’re interested! <3 as always, please heed the warnings!!
