hi kaiser hello <333 that is SOOO valid tbh inazuma specifically is a headache for multiple reasons... i think i'm going to watch someone else play the fontaine archon quest (...i did this with baizhu's story quest too LMAO) because i have no genshin motivation, but there are a couple people who are wanting to hear my thoughts about lyney lynette & freminet. THAT'S NOT THE POINT THOUGH I WOULD BE SO DELIGHTED TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT BAIZHU i love him so much he is so dear to me... as a professional baizhu liker i would be glad to help you out. if you need me to, i can explain anything in more detail! just let me know <33

first and foremost, baizhu is generally a very gentle, benevolent, and patient character. he's got sass to him, but generally is very kindly about everything he does. also my guy is so stubborn. god. he is so stubborn.

^ additionally, he is well-trusted by children because of his soft demeanor. they generally aren't scared of check-ups performed by him.

regarding his stubborness, baizhu tests his own medication on himself. he will also poison himself to gain a better understanding of what poison he's working with. he's stubborn with things like his own health and the way he tests medications.

now, this may be more of a headcanon, but... about baizhu's supposed cowardice. yeah. i don't think that's true. do you know the distinction between being harmless and being peaceful? one who is harmless can cause no damage. one who is peaceful can cause damage, but chooses not to. i believe baizhu is peaceful, not harmless. to me, his supposed cowardice is... not genuine. i don't see it, but this opinion may vary depending on who you ask i think.

he is a good-hearted person canonically...

...however.

bro also, canonically, has shady business practices. i personally write these business practices in a very particular way; that being, baizhu overcharges people who he knows can afford to be overcharged. he overcharges the wealthy.

^ similarly, baizhu may sometimes charge nothing at all. he does this when he knows someone can't afford what they need. he generally does his best to make healthcare accessible. he's so real for that.

this is a little headcanon-y, but baizhu cannot stand people claiming to heal illness through piety and faith. he fucking hates that.

^ that headcanon is based off of the fact that he has legal dealings with yanfei about people selling fake medication and whatnot.

i don't know if you know baizhu's entire backstory yet, but the general idea is that changsheng is something akin to an adeptus and has been making contracts with people to keep herself alive for (presumably) a few centuries.

her power enables her hosts to use what baizhu refers to as a "secret art" to heal folks ailed by anything from injuries to poisonings... but of course, there is a drawback. the user of this art transfers whatever their patient is suffering from onto their own body. this is why baizhu is disabled and chronically ill; he has taken on probably every condition known to man fr but we love him for being so kind.

changsheng can only make contracts with pure of heart people. people who aren't genuinely, truly good literally are not viable for her contract. she will die without a host (presumably because her power is slowly draining and she can no longer sustain herself without the support of another being's life force).

^ going off of that, this is part of the reason why baizhu seeks immortality (and do be sure to remember that his pursuit is not a secret. literally all of liyue knows AJSKSHAKFHF... but do also keep in mind that changsheng's contract is a secret so he doesn't tell people about that part). he doesn't want her to die, but he also doesn't want another person to take up her contract and continue the cycle. i also like to think that he doesn't want to leave qiqi alone but that's just me being insane over dad!baizhu he's so fatherly in my brain please hear me out on this one /lh

to stop qiqi from fulfilling orders, if i recall correctly, someone would have to hug her and tell her they love her the most. baizhu does this, but the effect is greatly diminished when he says it. the only reason baizhu sounds insincere when he tells qiqi "i love you the most" is because he believes every life has equal value. he loves her, but not the most, because he is enamored with life in general. this detail about his character is often the topic of angst in fic, but it's important to remember that baizhu is not incapable of love because of it. he is just... not someone who would put ultimate value on one life, because again, he believes all life has equal value.

yes, he does use qiqi for his own ends and research about immortality HOWEVER. however. he is not neglectful or abusive in any way towards her. he treats her well.

because she is a character closely related to baizhu, here's a little detail for the silly snake: changsheng canonically has no filter. she says whatever the fuck comes into her little brain. she's silly. i adore her. she is not bad though! her intentions are generally good.

baizhu doesn't like taking things from people for free. he has difficulty accepting gifts... which often come from the general population of liyue.

generally, what i find to be helpful when learning to write a new (playable) character is reading their voicelines and lore. reading voicelines can help you figure out any particular speech patterns or diction that characters are inclined towards using!

i promise i am not trying to advertise my fics LMAO but if you need a reference, and you want to see how i write him personally, please let me know! i have a few pieces in which i feel like i wrote him well.

Your in-depth posts literally have me FOAMING AT THE MOUTHH I don't have much time to read longer books due to school but I wanna feed my obsession so do you have any books on the shorter side or some websites/archives I can research/read a bit quicker? now this is a tricky question because im absolutely insane and ive barely ever read short books. right now im reading His Excellency by Joseph J Ellis and i recommend it!! its only around 2-300 pages which is the shortest history book ive got VSJWBW primary sources can be really good to get in book form, things like Common Sense by Thomas Paine, Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior (Washington’s rule book), and Memoir of Lieut. Col. Tench Tilghman, Secretary and aid to Washington are all primary sources i have on my shelf that are short and sweet.

i also have Hercules Mulligan by Micheal J. Obrien which i haven’t read but is VERY small. there is also James Monroe by Gary Hart which is short but i have not finished (i dont even truly remember reading it but i annotated part of it apparently), The Drillmaster of Valley Forge by Paul Lockhart is a little longer than those others, but still isn’t chernow levels of wrong, but i also haven’t read that one. Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger isn’t the most serious history book, but it is pretty good and an easy read.

as for secondary source websites, start with encyclopedias ie Britannica, which post short articles on different historical figures and events that give you the overview. from there im gonna point you to the National Park Service. this is the best thing the US government has ever made for researchers. this is all your battlefields, winter encampments, historical reproductions, and former capitals. also check out private residences turned museums, such as Mount Vernon, Monticello, and Schuyler Mansion. these institutions have an abundance of easily accessible information on more than just the people who lived there.

now the Library of Congress was a good decision on Jefferson’s part, but it can be inaccessible if you don’t know how to use it well because their website is one of my least favorite things about being alive. so instead, i recommend using Founders Online for any primary source regarding the founding fathers or amrev figures. the Washington Papers are filled to the brim with almost everything that went out of headquarters during all 8 years of the war. founders online is the shit

all of these websites i’ve mentioned are free to access, because i do not pay money on any research tools besides books out of spite for late stage capitalism. also any primary source is 100% accessible online. that includes memoirs and court transcripts, which can be very helpful

also i really do recommend watching documentaries and informational videos on the subjects you’re interested in while doing work or other things if you’re someone who does that (ik some people don’t have background noise but im just assuming you’re as neurodivergent as i am) because you can absorb just a little of that information and it being about a subject of interest can make academics seem a little less miserable!

Okay so, starting off strong, let's go music. Will Wood and the Tapeworms, right? A few weeks ago I listened to both versions of every song twice to find which versions I liked better for when I eventually burned CDs (my car is old af, bbg ain't even got an aux, but also her ass ain't got an engine rn 💀) for the albums.

My verdict for Self-Ish? Literally all the songs are the exact same, except Self-, -Ish (which just sound a wee bit different), and Dr Sunshine is dead (which just has a longer outro in the original).

EVERYTHING IS A LOT THO? Some big differences in some songs. So here's my preferences:

6 up 5 oh- Remaster, the "oh how I know how I go.." Part just sounds better to me

(Bones)- Remaster, the radio/tv talk at the end isn't glitchy and stuff, like the OG

Front Street- Original, I like the snaps (tapping?) Behind the pre-chorus, along with the dialogue clip. But, also, I like how much clearer everything is in the remaster, so I'm kinda torn.

¡Akiado!- Original, I am,,,, not a fan of the extra end part in the remaster

White knuckle Jerk- Original. The background(?) Voices are quieter and sound kinda different. Idk I may be wrong about that tho.

Cover this song- Original. I hate hate HATE Batman will wood growling in my ear, please never make me listen to that version again, it was a genuine jump scare. (EDIT: THE REMASTER JUST PLAYED ON MY SPOTIFY AND??? HE'S NOT BATMAN ANYMORE??? IS MY SPOTIFY BROKEN?? PLZ IK I'M NOT CRAZY)

First of all, I love the lyrical differences!! Ballad Jekyll leaning more towards blaming Hyde for everything and being way more self-pitying, while B/G Jekyll seems to have more of a subdued acceptance? Like, Ballad Jekyll is a lot more emotional and bitter, while B/C seems to take more of the responsibility. Also!! I like how in B/C Jekyll seems to be with someone else, while Ballad Jekyll seems to be alone. The contrast between the last lines ("but if it takes Mr Hyde with me, then I'm glad to hang" V.S. "so take my hand, hold it till the end") really does show that bitter self destructiveness vs that sad, duty-driven acceptance. AND LIKE UGHHH JUST THE LYRICS OF B/C IN GENERAL!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!

Also, the Mr Hyde Jive? I love Hyde being a silly fellow. Literally just being like "damn, I'm not the villain, smh, lemme go have some fun for you gayboy 🗣️🗣️ (might still ruin lives tho!! I am vice, teehee)"

HELLOOOOOO!!!!!!! It’s me, hair anon!! Sorry this comment is late, as was my last one—I’ve been in gluten hell the last few weeks 🥲 but I’m here because this last chapter BLEW MY SOCKS OFF and I wanted to thank you profusely for it.

Like!! Ahhhhh!!! I don’t even know what to say! Okay no I take it back first of all, DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD 🎉🎉🎉🎉 That was so incredible and well-written. The way you framed it, through Katara’s pov, was absolutely brilliant. (I also LOVE the way you write her!! You nail the characterizations of everyone in the gaang so well.) I’m now ABSOLUTELY pants-shittingly terrified of what’s going to happen with Zhao and him potentially/probably(?) going after them now, but thank fuck Ro is dead. I also really love the cuddle pile you wrote afterwards; I felt like that chapter gave me emotional whiplash in the best way. I was borderline nauseous with anxiety for the first part of it, and then crying in the second part, and then the third part had me smiling through tears, lol. Gaang cuddle piles are one of my favorite concepts EVER and this was probably the most well-deserved one I’ve ever read in a fic. I hope they all slept well, or at least better than they would have on their own. :’)

Speaking of that second part. The “I love you.” I gasped OUT LOUD. I know Zuko didn’t mean it completely romantically (though that was obviously there too, come on Sokka, buddy?? “BUDDY”????? 😭 though knowing how stupidly in love Zuko is my guess is that probably still made him feel some gushy feelings, lol), but holy SHIT that was like a gut punch in the best way. I literally put my hand over my mouth. It was so much but in the BEST WAY again. It was completely deserved, and I definitely teared up reading it, even more than I had been from what Zuko had been talking about before, lol. Then Katara showed up and I teared up even MORE, and then the CUDDLE PILE,, AaaaAAAHHH,,,

Also I am NOT forgetting the other parts of the chapter. I am DYING to know what happens next. I’m worried sick for everyone rn 😅. Ohh I have Several mafia!Tubbo headcanons to share.

This one isn't happy (of course) but well, Tubbo first decided he was going to kill Schlatt when offhandedly he mentioned that Tubbo could never move out or go away to college or in general get out alive because he "knew too much" about the family business. So whatever plans Tubbo had of being estranged and just moving on with his life ended then and there. He was probably like 15. He waited with that conviction 3 more years before he finally did it.

Also, the closet in his bedroom he's used as a safe-haven for years. Big fancy old house, so there's a little window in there overlooking the street. He could wedge the door shut with some rope around the doorknob and the hanging rod. It didn't really make him safer, but it made him feel better. He'd dragged a chair in there, some books from when he was younger, and he'd just look out at the street from there, people-watching, fascinated and maybe too longing for the normalcy he thought he saw in them.

And in that same vein, Tubbo liked to think that Schlatt wasn't really his dad. I mean, the last name is all wrong, he doesn't know why and it's not like Schlatt was open to questions, so maybe out there somewhere his actual dad is a scientist or something, working for NASA he'd like to think. Or maybe a beekeeper. Something ordinary. Something without guns. (this is in part bc I normally don't like dad!Schlatt so. I'm making myself feel better lol)

And as for our main cast of characters: the rest of this arc will continue to focus on Quackity and Tubbo (I didn't expect the two of them to end up taking up so much screen time, but I'm not complaining, I love these guys!) as well as some more resolution for Ponk's story. As for the next fic, I do have subplots planned for Wilbur and Tommy, Sapnap will start to get more involved in Quackity's storyline. The Badlands are major to the plot, but I still am unsure of writing Bad and Ant, so idk how much we'll see of them! I want to write some more of Niki and Jack, eventually some more from Ranboo and Karl, a bit more of Sam, I don't think there's anyone who is going to become major to the plot that hasn't been shown to have a pov/story already! Most of our major arcs have started in one way or another by now :D (I mean, I am open minded, if I can find a spot to fit in more of them I will. Find an excuse to expand on Hannah's story, Tina was mentioned but doesn't exist really, Fundy is literally just an accountant but if there's room I will write him gladly. and Eryn I have SO much backstory for and nowhere to put it lol)

Actually, I know I've posted a few prequel fics, but the main prequel Plot (why did the Empire fall? What happened between Wilbur and his father? why did Puffy leave the police force and join the Badlands?) more major things like that I'll put together in a more plot-heavy multi-pov prequel fic, it will probably be a shorter arc focused on Phil and Techno, Puffy, Sapnap and Bad, Wilbur and Quackity, that type deal!

Nobody asked but this is a weekly post of me telling people that yes I am alive but barely! School kicked my ass and they got me while I was down (like I am legit depressed lol) but I am doing way better than I was before. Maybe because of the amount of work I have rn distracts me from ever sitting down and be in my thoughts. Right now I'm trying to get back to my commission and make it my personal goal to at least finish one this week and another next week, hopefully I get it all done by June. I wish by that time I am 50% over with my final project for the semester.

Anyway how you guys doing? I kinda miss talking to people here 🤧 I don't really talk to people these days here due to me being busy and also being depressed. I don't check my feed and just come to post. I miss a lot of things. I miss talking about my selfship freely and just gush about my f/os but these days I just couldn't find time to do so and it kinda sucks since thats one of my coping mechanism and not bring able to do so nor bring myself to write about it makes me sad like I suppose to do that and I couldn't? My brain must be fucked up from a lot of things. I just wish things were back to the way it was but now that I kinda lose everything, maybe it's gonna take me a while to heal zzzzz

Here's the less fun part about my situation so uh skip if you dont want to deal with me being womp womp

I tryna get back on my feet but lol just caught myself crying today because I just feel so so lonely. I lost my support system for months now and it really sucks. It feels so much worst than a break up like I literally have no place to talk about anything. I wish I knew earlier about not relying on one person for everything because I literally feel so lost right now and I just still couldn't believe I have to navigate everything by my own. I have no one to talk to about my life, no one to listen to the dumb shit I have to deal at school and I feel like I just lost myself completely. I don't reply to people messages, i dont enjoy things that I used to like and right now I just feel like I am going on autopilot. I just feel so numb. Maybe it's my fault that I lean too much on people and rely on others so heavily to cope so right now I am trying to muster myself to be completely by myself and living on my own terms even though I know I am struggling with it right now. I'm just so glad at least I have my cat, I love him so much and I think about him everyday at school and get so excited when I see that stinker at my door. I just don't want to get hurt no more. So please be patience with me as I try to navigate with my life right now.
