The voices telling her to kill him and devour him are most likely memories from their shared past.

Theory 1: For whatever reason, MC is marked for execution. Perhaps in an effort to plea for her life, a deal is arranged that if she can kill the last dangerous dragon of Philos, she will be pardoned and spared.

It would explain why she is so headstrong to kill him despite the obvious size and strength difference.

Theory 2: Deviating from theory 1 slightly, is it also possible that devouring dragon flesh could make you stronger? Stephen King fans, correct me on this please, because I haven't read this novel since 8th grade, but iirc, in his novel The Eyes of the Dragon, didn't the previous king earned his "strength" / revered reputation after slaying a dragon and devouring its flesh?

Tentatively announcing a semi-hiatus until the end of January!

So, here's the thing I thought I could finish my graduate thesis and stay on tumblr the whole time, but it turns out it's not really working out that well, so I'll probably be minimally active until the 21st of January, which is the day I'll hand in my thesis.

Finished it! A couple of months ago I started this pattern by @antisocialxconstruct / @craftsbyrom and I just finished up the last squares today. After the last cross stitch, this was pleasantly straightforward and very relaxing busy-work for my hands. The pattern is available digitally in it's Kofi shop for a minimum of a dollar (I've also bought that glitchy dog skull that I'll get around to eventually 👀).

Some technicalities etc below:

One tweak I made was at the very end I decided to try a tiny bit of backstitch to make the letters stand out, and for the most part I like the addition, but I'm still debating. The way it turned out on the Y has me tilting my head back and forth.

Here's the completed one before the backstitching:

I went with 3 strands instead of 4 like it did for the sample, but I think the coverage was still pretty good. Definitely needed at least the 3 for the dark areas to stay completely dark.

With 3 strands, most colors were okay with just 1 skein of DMC thread, but I did need to run to the shop to grab a few: - DMC 3814 - Aquamarine (I had less than a square inch left when I needed to get more ;3;) - DMC 02 - Tin - DMC 797 - Royal Blue

If I had done 4 stands I would have also needed a second DMC 939 for the very dark blue, because I have just about a foot left on my spool.

I'm debating what to do with it. The last one became a pillow, but this one is juuust a bit small to be a useful pillow. I might just do it anyway, sampler throw pillows aren't that weird after all, but I might also try to kind of rig a sort of frame and stretch it like a canvas? It could be nice up on the wall that way.

You can't have an updated Blueberry Milk sprite without his two lackeys! Re-introducing: Apple A La Mode Cookie and Sapphire Grape Cookie(Candy Apple and Black Sapphire!)

Apple A La Mode's the local academy prankster, and has made a name for herself cancelling classes due to her shenanigans. Like her in game counterpart, she looks up to Blueberry Milk due to the havoc he raised during his time at school.

Sapphire Grape Cookie's the star anchor for Channel 5 News, and acts as the eyes and ears for the NYC. Nothing gets past him without him knowing about it, and in this republic, knowledge is power. Strangely though, the reporter is never seen in public outside of his job...

Okay, now for some design discussions! One, Candy Apple Cookie. I think this design concept just kinda came to me; if Shadow Milk is now a powerful and wise researcher, naturally there has to be a student trying to fill his footsteps. Black Sapphire was a bit trickier, since I wanted to keep his overall role while fitting in with the new republic. So I made him a reporter! Unfortunately, that meant his staff had to go considering he wasn't a radio host anymore. But he still lives on in the camera.
