I have a theory/ headcanon for why Chilchuck was so comfortable tossing around half-foot Marcille during the first changeling situation, despite HATING that kind of treatment himself and being an advocate against the infantilization of half-foots.
Chilchuck mentions that if Marcille is going to age like a half-foot, she has less than 40 years. Specifically mentioning she has less than 40 years left suggests she's somewhere in her teens as a half-foot. Assuming her equivalent tall-man age is 20, she'd be 16 as a half-foot. Which just so happens to be about how old Meijack and Flertom are.
So my theory/ headcanon is that Chilchuck got solid confirmation that Marcille is the same maturation as his daughters at the same time as her struggling to cope with her new body in both mundane and combat situations so his dad instincts take over and he starts treating her with the same familiarity he'd treat his daughters if they were struggling/ putting themselves in danger.

More dnd writing because it's all I have but I here's a snippet from a vignette I did of Rook's past (from Zara's POV), because Rook and his mentors never fails to make me sick (/pos).
[transcript under the cut]
Taking a coin out of her pocket, she rolled it across her knuckles, back and forth. It gave her hands something to do, and prevented the urge to bite her nails, something she hadn’t done in years.
Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Zara began to pace as Rook’s breathing grew shakier and the color drained from his skin. Where the hells is Jay? she wondered. The room was so quiet that she could hear every tick of the small clock on her bedside table, and each one echoed in her head. How many ticks does he have left? She didn’t want to think about it.
She’d had crew members die before, of course. You don’t go as many years as a captain as she had and never lose a soul. But all the others who had died had died quickly, in combat. She’d mourned for all of them, even shed tears in private, but there was something different about watching the life drain out of a person right in front of your eyes.

Sometimes I hate talking to people on the internet because you can think you are being super nice and reasonable and they will act like you came at them all crazy like.
Like "yes hello thank you for working so hard on porting this mod forward. I just request that you post on the page what features are or aren't available in your version, because it can be frustrating to get really far into the game only to find out that features you thought would be there, aren't, but it's too late to do anything about it. TY"
And someone got mad??? Like if u wanna keep ppl like me from coming into your discord Maybe Make This Information Available Somewhere Other Than Your Discord!?!?!?!
I Did Not Want To Join A Discord Just For This!!!

Something I want to build on with vincent at some point is how much the years of being an adventurer has taken a toll on him. he spent so long just being angry at the world but as he gets closer and closer to carteneau he does start recognizing how reckless he's been and the mistakes he's made over the years. friendships (especially with layla and nhea) helping him get a little closer to how he used to be before finally stopping and trying to do better for himself when he loses his leg. and the fact that guilt has really solidified in him to still make him push himself in his healing rather than combat (though sometimes still pushing himself too far) and how the years of treating himself like a weapon have taken a toll on his mind (he has terrible nightmares that only a select few have been able to help him through it)
