man. being a renter sucks balls.

i put in a work request to have some holes in my walls and floor patched up cos like. in the summer, bugs will get in and i have to put out traps so they don't eat the shit in my pantry. and evidentially in the winter, mice can get in. hildie caught one in my room a couple weeks ago and i had to put it outside.

so. like. i put the order in. i say, "hey, please fix the holes in my pantry cos the terminix guy recommended it." and i attached a photo of the main hole in my work order. i figured everything would be hunky dory. they can take a look at the pantry, see the hole i was talking about from my photo, then maybe get back to me with next steps. i've had major reconstruction done on an old apartment back in like 2016 (i think) when my bathroom's ceiling caved in, so i'd expect it would be kind of an operation.

these people didn't even try to call or email or anything. they left a note saying that they'll come back tomorrow so i can point out the holes that i want patched. like??? was the photo not enough? are the gaping holes around the pipes leading to the boiler that hard to notice? did y'all even look at my phone number ON THE WORK ORDER to maybe contact me?

I was cleaning up some broken links on my old silly Pokemon fansite, the Neglected Pokemon Lovers Unite (NPLU), and I realized that it has now been open for 25 years. TWENTY. FIVE. YEARS. That is an ASTONISHING amount of time for a site to stay open! Even if the last substantial update was like back in 2009 lol. The world around it has changed so much, but I think it's still valuable as a time capsule of a certain time on the internet. I wrote up a new essay about it on the site and did some general clean-up here and there.

Anyway to that end, since so much of the fic and art there is so old, I decided to compare Radic's oldest form to his newest! Radic was always a human boy but I just couldn't draw humans at the time so I made him a furry lol. Eventually I figured it out.

I also thought it'd be a neat challenge to mimic my own style back when it was really wonky and bad. And it was! It was kind of fun actually. I don't have too many shots of Radic from back then (it was hard to get art on the internet in the late 90's-early 00's), but I do have a few - hugging Kitsune, two old kiribans if you want to compare. I had a lot more old shots of Parasects though to reference unsurprisingly, they were very triangular lol. I think I did a pretty good job of matching what my art used to look like. I had a clear see-through Gameboy back in the day if you can't tell what Radic is holding lol.

If you do go poking around the NPLU, please keep in mind that almost everything there is very old and most of the fic and art is pretty bad (and shockingly violent). Plz do not judge me! My younger self was a cringey weeb but she was trying very hard. :<

hate to break it to Sarah but for the most part, people raised in cultures who's beliefs they fundamentally disagree with usually don't despise their people and call them savage brutes or whatever for complying to the standards they were raised with. From my experience, people can acknowledge that that's all they've ever known.

it simply does not make sense to me how Rhys, Cassian, and Azriel can see their own people as brutes. They know what it's like, they understand the culture, they understand the beliefs their people were raised with, and instead of trying to change their culture's beliefs in a meaningful way (which if they wanted to, they could, none of this "oh but change takes time" bullshit. Enforce the wing clipping ban, cowards.), they spend their time whining about how ruthless the Illyrians are.

SJM, pretty please, this is not how people are. And frankly I think it's a bit harmful for the bat boys to be portrayed as "the good ones" from a marginalized group. I don't know how to properly phrase it, but i've seen it in my own life. The farther I stray from something stereotypically associated with my culture, the better and more reasonable I'm treated by the people around me. It just strikes me as icky for the bat boys to be portrayed like they are the only reasonable illyrians, like they are the exceptions, like they are the only good ones, BECAUSE they stray away from Illyrian culture.

The whole situation with the "most annoying tumblr user poll" thing is pissing me off a bit.

So they put somewhat popular blogs that get reblogged too often I guess against guy that constantly reblogs from actual nazis, (according to people in the notes, though I don't know who it is)an actual nazi, the child slavery reddit reposter, a pedophile and fuck knows what else, but everyone has mentioned it already because it's just so stupid it almost looks like deliberate ragebait.

But the thing that's the most fucked up is like, the complete disregard. There is no way the OP "couldn't have known" Sivi/tonysopranobignaturals would be negatively affected by being included in the poll. She was very open about her mental health in her blog and it would've taken a quick scroll to realize putting her in a poll that gives strangers a platform to spread rumors about her and judge her behind her back would be extremely fucked up. The OP of the poll said they got some submissions via ask but they never posted any of them so ¿?. And even if one wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt or they went like "heyyy I'm just doing what people tell me, I'm not choosing the participants, I'm just writing what was in the asks", shouldn't you as the organizer like, at the absolute least, run a background check for each "participant" to make sure you don´t accidentally drive harrassment towards someone in a vulnerable state? or idk, ask them about it?

Also it's not like once someone reaches a certain follower count they automatically stop being people, holy fuck.
