to tl;dr this: when it comes to fandom and content creators, ppl tend to make content of the characters they already love and thus think about most often, which leads to, at times, male characters getting genderbent into women either thru cis or trans hcs, bc they are both genderbending, thats the definition of the term bc youre changing their gender, and getting mad at people for not, in your opinion, "appreciating" the female characters enough, is not doing anything except making people feel bad for not having the "correct" feelings about a character at best, or making them actively angry and thus fueling them to create more of that thing you hate out of spite at worst (for you anyway, not for the people who like it).

this doesnt mean they dont give a shit abt the other characters who arent their faves, but to create a work of art, you need to be able to like. care enough to do it. and that requires more care than just a general enjoyment or appreciation of a character, especially if the work in question is time intensive/would be time intensive, like writing a chapter fic/thousands of words long oneshot, or making a fully rendered piece of art, etc. obvi this will depend on the skill and energy levels of the artist we're talking about but yknow, on a general scale

sorry not sorry but if you get mad at ppl who genderbend female characters into transmascs/trans men (transmascs aren't always genderbends, bc you can be transmasc and also a woman, but i digress/for the sake of brevity...) and go "you're TAKING AWAY a GOOD FEMALE CHARACTER!" i need you to stop for a second and consider why these people - most of whom are trans men/transmascs themselves - might be doing that to a character they like.

9/10 times when i see a cis genderbend of a male character to be female, the person doing it is a cis woman. when i see genderbends, of any kind, of a female character to be male or masc? it's almost always done by a trans man and/or a transmasc. and inevitably, they are almost always dogpiled for it with disgusting levels of hate. i've seen it happen so many times i stopped attempting to count a long time ago

don't come up here saying "you NEVER see-" because actually i see all of those things happen all the time. ppl love genderbending men characters into women, or emasculating/demasculinizing/feminizing them in order to make them personally more appealing, or saying "[mlm ship] would be better if it was two girls/wlw/two fem-aligned/etc" all the fucking time. and while i realize this is often a way for the people who say this to like, try to lash out at common misogynistic/lesbiphobic/transmisogynistic/etc sentiment irl, in doing so, they are not doing it in a way that allows for a nuanced understanding of their fellow fandom-goers. they make blanket sweeping statements and then dogpile people who disagree

the moment you start treating entire demographics of people as if they are a hivemind or a single identity, the moment you decide that something "never" happens bc you personally have not seen it? youve already lost any possible chance you mightve had at making a good point

I have not recovered from the mental power I had to pool to write this lmao I couldn't do anything at work except figure these two out and why Aventurine looked so BESOTTED but the absence of the little white dots in his eyes in the light cone and in the leaked models made him look like there's such an edge to him (someone on twitter pointed out that he has no light in his eyes!) and it really fanned the flames like what the fuck is this GUY ON and why is it directed at Dr. Ratio LMAO (I mean why not Ratio is so pretty)

So then I thought, there is NO WAY Ratio is going to react surprised or scared for Aventurine he's going to be ANNOYED lmao. There are possibly 2 more chances in that cylinder before it's 100% in there and I was looking at the probabilities on Wikipedia and I was laughing at myself at how a gay ship was going to make me STUDY probability when I hated this type of stuff in university and I was like yeah Ratio will probably be like hey, you can't stop there, and pulls twice lmao

And I was thinking they would make eyes at each other homoerotically while doing so because wow sexual tension so potent you can taste it through the screen in the LC art and everything just went from there I really cannot get over how Aventurine seems so... sooooooo in love with Ratio and in my head Ratio is like this man is insane what is he on but he gets a taste of that and it's like wow it's actually a little good but Ratio is also cautious so he won't ride that wave too hard but Aventurine looks really down bad for a man who seems like he doesn't care

So initially I really wanted to wait until Aventurine came out before I start my hyperfixation train because we know so little about him other than key facts I have formed in my head-- -he's perpetual smiler (confirmed by a leak of the loading screen blurbs) and like, idk from his design it just suits him and even in his voice cameo with Topaz his VA sounds like they are smiling while they are talking ALLL the time idk at least I got this one right -mr gambling gambler who is very self-assured about his luck, mr smug man. when I wrote he'd win 99.9-0.1 he believes this and if he dies I think to him it would just mean his time's up for realsies anyway and whatever idk man is not very sane -there's some really weird leaks and I'm not sure if it's confirmed but he was invited to be a Masked Fool which made him ALLL the more interesting for me because as a Sampo Mr Scammer fan it doesn't mean if he joins the Masked Fools he wouldn't be able to amass money but this guy seems to really like the thrill being an IPC senior manager provides then which is like this guy is a lives fast dies young kinda guy -I HC from that neck tattoo he could have been an indentured servant (cough slave cough) or a prisoner of some kind, but eitherway it says he wasn't privileged in any sense of the word but the way his character design is so decked out in rings gold watches and even a bracelet it means he's climbed very far, so he is an ambitious man, lots of "material pleasures" as Dr Ratio puts it in my fic and he still wants more. That kinda guy makes for a very intense lover imo very "I get what I want" type, and I really wanted to balance that with his attraction to Dr Ratio and how he doesn't want to drive Dr Ratio away with his crazy but he's also very horny... Anyway I also totally underestimated his height difference with Dr Ratio I really should have pulled up that leak of them side by side but ahh being a short king dom top is so cute on him

As for Dr Ratio I really cannot see him top unless Aventurine power bottoms why but he's so "diligent" in all aspects but I see him being a pillow princess in bed

I also feel a little bad that I wasn't able to write more bickering between the two of them but I also feel like the normally talkative Dr Ratio keeps HIGH HIGH walls around Aventurine because it's hard to tell what this guy is thinking so he's thinking so hard trying to make sense of it all and he says little as not to give away anything that might be wrong

I feel like adding "all is fair in love and war" in Latin omina iusta sunt amore belloque was a little gratuitous but I also want to subtly sprinkle in that Aventurine is so obsessed with Ratio, so down bad for him, that he reads stuff about Dr Ratio a lot enough to come across a translation of the quote and I'm like no yeah way Ratio can deal with crazy-eyed Aventurine saying/declaring love while he's still computing the electric exchange they had so he's definitely like picking up on Aventurine's obsession/infatuation with him and he's like NOPE DON'T SAY IT and would rather kiss him to shut him up than hear it lmao

I honestly despaired at how I was going to start closing the scenes because it was like nighttime and I wanted to finish it already because they're killing me, so like, making Ratio fall asleep while Aventurine pours his heart out (I asked a friend who read it what he thought Aventurine said and they got it spot on so I figure it was conveyed properly on my end and I was really proud of this bit) seemed like a cute way to do it. The narration lied, Dr Ratio heard it but he got selective hearing and totally did NOT want to reply/acknowledge it. Poor Aventurine, but it's not as if he won't try again

I have waaay more ideas about them and I wonder if I can hold off until Aventurine releases or we get more crumbs idk but I want to write some kuudere Ratio (with a bit of tsun hehe)

-I think the idea that being around in a heat/rut doesn't have a effect on family members to be a fun concept because I think the idea of a heavily nesting Percy pulling one of his siblings into bed with him for a few hours to be very cute because even if he doesn't realize it like outright some part of him does view the Twins especially as his like he just like holds them close and naps but if they try to leave he gets so mad so fast

i feel like people don’t really get how much jokaste holds damen in such a high regard. the first time she talked to laurent she was full of praises for damen and yes although the majority of the reason was to taunt laurent, it was too heartfelt to be faked entirely. i find her a quite tragic character honestly. in another world she would be proud and happy to be to be damen’s queen 🙁 i wish more ppl cared about her OR stop portraying her as this cold unfeeling girlboss who was sooo sick of damen’s bs that she punished him by gleefully fucking kastor….. i really really don’t think that’s who she is. she loved damen in her own way. she was also a sentimental woman. OH DEAR… so one of the first times i actively participated in the fandom i made a post about how frustrating it was to see theomedes portrayed as an absent father despite the glaring lack of canon evidence while aleron got off the hook much easier despite laurent actually confirming he was an absentee and said i think it was about the way people perceive them (theomedes=brown and toxic, aleron=white and tastefully distant) anyways, some user whom i never talked to before (and they’re still blocked to this day despite the fact i pretty much never block anyone here) said i was “making it up” and right after i blocked them after they continued talking to me in a very rude manner some asks ✨mysteriously✨ appeared in my inbox and the person who sent them called me an “illiterature white bitch” who made up nonexistent drama…….. so yes i guess the colorism issue really ruffles some people’s feathers :) i wonder why :)

PRONGSFOOT WEEK - DAY TWO

What Headcanons do you have for this ship?  IE, things like, James made the first move or Sirius got James into crosswords.  Anything really.

James' parents adore Sirius (and are secretly waiting for the wedding invitations)

Padfoot only ever lets James pet him (and he loves it and often demands his pets from him) but is incredibly unimpressed whenever someone else tries it

Padfoot's favorite thing ever is James' scent and he loves to cuddle up to him or brush against him - he's more obviously tactile as a dog than he is as human

they are both brilliant and love to bounce off each other magical theories, new spells or their new uses. It can be really hard for others to follow their discussions when they get like that because of the way they just seems to get each other while Remus just stares lost somewhere at point n. 2.

Sirius likes Quidditch, but because of James' love for it he has come to care more for it than he ever would on his own. He'd joined James when he went for the tryouts after some serious persuasion from James ('But Pads, how cool would it be if we were both on the team? Just imagine it! Don't you want to spend more time with me? I know you do, come on -'). He also now gets to hit things with a bat which he immensely enjoys.

I also hc that Sirius has three biggest absolute weaknesses: James in his quidditch gear, James ruffling his hair, James' smile

James' biggest weakness is probably Sirius' eyes, but he's also incredibly fascinated with his hair and thinks about touching it more than he maybe should

They love to go running together through the Forest in their animagi forms, just sprinting across the grass and chasing each other

I'm also not saying they both have competency kink but...(they absolutely do)

Sirius is slightly taller than James while James is the one with more muscles - both secretly love it

Sirius sleeps in James' old quidditch jersey. When he first sees him like that, James' brain just stops. Straight up doesn't work for a few moments. Sirius has a similiar reaction when he much later lends James his favorite leather jacket (he immediately regrets it and also thinks it's the best decision he ever made)

Sirius loves to be touched by James and finds it incredibly grounding and comforting, but James usually has to be the one to reach out first - be it resting against each other in the Common room, brushing shoulders during breakfast or leaning on him before quidditch practice

Sirius can be both reserved and full of emotions! I like to imagine other people find him harder to read and he's reserved with those who doesn't know (and often he also doesn't care) but he can also be full of fire and excitement - he only gets really vulnerable with James though because he trusts him above everyone

James is more openly vocal about his love for Sirius, friendship-pining stage or after. Though Sirius tends to drop a sincere sentence out of nowhere that absolutely destroys James and leaves him a mess.

James is incredibly salty over the other Blacks and ready to confront them any second

They're both incredibly protective of each other. They know the other is more than capable but even so they both feel this burning desire to protect each other and take revenge

I think they'd both love to get married really young. They would also make so many people sob and lightly chuckle at their wedding wovs

Sirius gets really possesive when drunk. James not so secretly revels in it (and also dies a little bit - a lot - when it happens for the first time)

Valentine's Day Ship HC, part 4, VBS ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝

Reminder: Kohane is a lesbian, An is asexual/acespec, Akito is bisexual, and Toya is gay.

As I mentioned in my VS post, Toya was outed to his family. He's not sure who did it or why, but it happened, and it got him kicked out.

Toya's father is in full belief that Toya turned gay due to the Tenmas and Akito, outright saying he should have known better than to let Toya get so close to a boy who liked dressing like a girl, a girl who was so desperate for attention she basically whored herself off to her friends, and a boy who seemed to be too comfortable putting himself all over Toya (getting him a well deserved punch or two).

While Toya escapes to the Street SEKAI after getting what he was able to pack, including the torn up pieces of his adoption paper given to him by Tsukasa and Saki when they were kids, Akito goes to the Tenma residence for advice.

Akito and Toya had been on a date when Toya's dad sent them both a message telling them he knows. Toya ended up leaving first, and Akito, unsure what to do, decided to go to the one person he knew cared about Toya. He was relieved when Toya showed up later that night, both of them spending the night in the Tenma's guest room.

After hearing what happened, both An and Kohane offered Toya and Akito a place to stay. (Akito: Why me? An: Your dad is probably just as bad as Toya's. Akito: ....shit. Okay, fair.)

An and Kohane tell their dads everything that went on. That's why they're both able to provide a place for either of their two fellow VBS members.

Toya begins turning everything in as "Toya Tenma." When confronted about it, he hesitates before admitting he was kicked out due to his sexuality and how he had been taken in by the Tenma family.

Akito, An, Kohane, as well as Tsukasa and Saki, are there to comfort him when his father finally gets his just desserts (I'm not saying wheter or not he got arrested, I'm leaving that up for debate 👀)

They stand by him as his father loses any and all rights to him and when he is legally adopted into the Tenma family.

Toya makes sure to return the favor when Akito and his sister go to court against their own father. While Akito ends up living with An and her dad, his sister moves in with their partner, Mizuki Akiyama.

An and Akito grow closer due to Ken adopting him (tho Akito chooses to keep his last name as Shinonome). They still have a rivalry, but it's more playful now.

An adores the little gifts her girlfriend makes. When she finds out most them come from a mandatory Arts and Crafts day held by Tsukasa Tenma (An: Why is it mandatory? Kohane: I don't know, but Tsukasa onii-chan always plans them out with our interest in mind. It's fun and I'm having a good time with him and the others :) An, thinking:....cute....) she goes to him so he can help her plan an artsy date with Kohane.

Much like how Haruka gushes to her about Minori, An will gush to Haruka about Kohane.

They do have to make sure they aren't doing something active, last time An gushed about her girlfriend while they were playing basketball 1v1, she got hit on the head with the actual ball because she wasn't paying attention. :/

Toya and Kohane will sometimes go on friendship dates. Yes, it has led to some people thinking they're a couple.

An and Akito also used to get the "you're such a cute couple" shtick. It stopped when people began to hear Akito refer to Ken as his dad.

It also helped that An is almost always cozying up to her girlfriend and Akito has often been spotted with his boyfriend going into a private booth at Weekend Garage (by private, I mean there's a curtain blocking anyone's view, alongside a father who gives a damn about kids privacy, his own or not).

Kohane likes to take photos of An at random times. While she does enjoy when her girlfriend poses for her, she also enjoys capturing more in the moment photos.

An loves running her hands through Kohane's hair.

Akito and Toya know they don't have to hide their relationship anymore, what with the whole thing with them being taken in by different families and all that jazz, they still rather it just be them. They don't want to hear how brave they were, or how sorry their fellow classmates felt, they just want to have some peace. Thank you very much. :/

Ken and Tsukasa are the boys saving graces. Ken will offer them some privacy whenever they're at Weekend Garage (hence the curtained booth), and Tsukasa will often redirect people away from his little brother and his future brother-in-law.

Akito was 100% expecting some sort of shovel talk from one of Tenmas. He's invited to family game night instead (Akito: who the fuck is she? Kanade: ._. hello. Saki: She's our older sister!! Akito:.... Toya: You get used to it. Sometimes more people join in. :) Akito:....there are more??? Kohane: *shows up* Akito:.....since when-).

Kohane's dad and Ken will often exchange stories about their daughters. They're both proud of them and are happy to see them find joy in each other <3

Ever since adopting Akito into the Shiraishi family, Ken has made it even more known that Weekend Garage was a safe space for those in the LGBT community. If anyone ever needed a supportive dad, he was there for them.

SR Boss Asks Answers

I realised how much space long reblogs take up on the reblog page (yeah, I'm new to tumblr) so I've copied this onto a new post.

But yeah, did them all, and I implore anyone who wants to talk about their Boss to do these, because even if no-one reads it, it was fun. There were a couple of things I didn't really think about, like the #16 Casey-cat moment which is my new favourite thing.

#17 is something I've just done a longer post on.

1.What’s their backstory? Cassandra ‘Casey’ Michaiła Clark was born in Stilwater. Her dad left when she was very young citing that he couldn't handle two kids. Ofc he leaves and has two kids with his new wife and barely sees Casey and her sister. He later claims he wanted to leave their mom, not them. Her sister rightfully points out that for all her flaws, their mom never actually stopped him seeing them so that's on him.

Her mom was from a slightly more affluent background than her dad (they met in college but dropped out when her mom got pregnant) and they were scraping by until he left. After that, her mom worked very hard to maintain the appearance to the outside world that they were not struggling with money, even though it sent them into debt. She was always very judgemental and religious, but also had a genuine anxiety disorder. She eventually got addicted to Xanax and would drag Casey with her to make excuses like that she'd flushed her last lot down the toilet/took them to school and they got confiscated etc.

It got to the point where she was pretty checked out and Casey's sister had to make sure they were getting to school on time, that there was food on the table etc.. When she was 14, her sister left home and this derailed her pretty bad.

Her best friend Mori(OC: Moriarty Alleyne- hoping to post more about him soon)'s mom Angela was instrumental in taking care of her from about the age of 12. She always made sure Casey was fed when at her house and gave her some of Mori's old clothes when she outgrew her sister's hand-me-downs. She did try to help where she could but wasn't fully aware of the situation for a long time. Even though Mori's friendship with Casey became a little strained due to his girlfriend disliking her, Angela would still invite her around.

When Casey was 15 her mom caught her making out with a girl she liked and it led to her mom throwing her out of the house. She stayed with Mori and Angela for two weeks straight but Angela started saying Casey should go check on her mom, and offers to go with her- having realised by this point that drugs are involved she's worried her mom might have OD'ed (Casey doesn't realise that's why until years later). Casey assures her she has been in contact with her mom (technically she has been, she's been sent texts about repenting her sins and guilt trips about leaving her at home the whole time) and pretends to go home but obviously can't.

So instead she finds herself on Saints Row at a really stupid time of night and… well, you know… Saints Row happens.

2. How old were they when they first joined the Saints? Fifteen, almost sixteen. Weird little angry kid born 29th June 1990. I think she has pretty obvious millenial tastes and tendencies. I find the post-SRIV dynamic pretty fascinating actually. She probably has a lot more in common with Pierce and Shaundi who I hc as similar ages compared to Johnny who is xennial, Kinzie and Asha who I think are borderline millenial/gen z, and 110% zoomer Matt. Then you've got Keith and Ben complaining that the ship is ran by kids and CID, Jane and Jezebel being extreme outliers to the whole thing.

3. Did they have a happy childhood? I mean overall she says it wasn't terrible. She had some nice moments with her sister. Kinzie calls her backstory "tragic" when she hears it and Casey disagrees calling it "just, y'know, a bit shitty". She heard stories of other kids going through physical and sexual abuse, she saw how Mori was affected by his dad's death and had to help him through some very dark times with his depression. She doesn't class her borderline sociopathy as a mental health issue until much later on. She starts therapy around the time the Saints rise to fame, around 2012-2013.

4. Do they have any siblings? Yes, she has a sister called Phoebe who is approximately 4 years older than her and as above, pretty much had to raise her. She left home when she was 18 which led Casey to feel pretty abandoned all over again, especially because she didn't fully understand her reasons.

5. Did they graduate high school? What about college? No, she dropped out of high school. She had plans to study English Literature at college had she got that far. She held on to school for almost a year after Phoebe left, still scraping Bs, but eventually it all took its toll. She got a job as a dishwasher in a small restaurant. If it wasn't for stealing food off of plates for a few months she wouldn't have had the muscle mass for the physical strength she displays in the first game.

6. What’s their sexuality?She self-defines as bisexual. Later she wonders if it should be pansexual. She didn't know what pan was in like 2003 when she was figuring it out, but either would fit her. Equally she would describe herself as panromantic but many of her friends assume she is fraysexual or otherwise arospec based on her choices around relationships.

7. What do they look for in a partner? She doesn't. She ignores or downright avoids that sort of interaction if possible. Suddenly becomes fucking mute again if she tries to talk about feelings. But she seems to be romantically attracted to people that are quite physically affectionate because she is very friendly emotionally but has trouble initiating non-sexual physical contact.

She does have the odd short-term partner, but tends to be drawn to people she doesn’t like all that much as something in her brain knows it won't last (talking days, I think her longest was like 10 days for many years). She has a lot of one-night stands/other casual hookups.

8. Are they currently dating anyone? Currently when? ;) Throughout the games, no, unless it’s a matter of days as described above. She's capable of romantic attraction but as above, doesn't want a relationship for practical reasons (actually fear) because a partner could be used against her.

9. Who do they love most in the world? Her friends. They are her family. She is unwavering on that. This doesn't change when she gets a partner or meets a blood relative from the pods. But it does shift a little some time in 2024.

10. Is there someone from their past they will never forgive?

Her parents. Anyone who contributes to the several deaths of her friends also but the difference there is that she doesn't let them live. So no need to forgive them. Hell she only considered letting Matt live because he reminded her of herself when she got dragged into the gang life at 15-16. The upgrades just sealed the deal.

11. What is their favorite food? Mori and his mom are Bajan-American so Barbadian food is a comfort food for her, especially salt fish and macaroni pie. Unfortunately none of the lieutenants stationed with her are of that heritage, so she often seeks out Carribean restaurants while still on earth. Phoebe's pecan pie is also a comfort, it was their grandma's recipe but she died when Casey was 6 and Phoebe was 9-10. Casey has the recipe but can't cook anything besides like frozen pizzas, instant ramen etc. She eventually tries to make the pie and realises burnt pecan pie is still good pecan pie! Despite this, lemon meringue pie is her favourite dessert. When the nice manager was on shift at the restaurant she would sneak her a piece every night. She also has a soft spot for fries because when she the dishwasher in the diner they were the easiest things to eat off plates before scraping them. Also pieces of burgers and ribs.

12. What are their pet peeves? She gets really restless when waiting on someone. Like she'll say meet at 2 and by the time Johnny gets there by 2.03 she's been pacing back and forth for five minutes. She doesn't mind all the gang being sarcastic with each other but if they all start talking each other at once she usually has to silence them. She is open to being called out on things like her white cis privelege or some of the hetronormative bias instilled by her background but she doesn't much like being challenged on some of her more bullshit 'rules' or lieutenants pushing back on her decisions once she's made them. She does eventually mature out of the latter.

13. What are some of their fears? Her biggest fear is losing someone she cares about. Unfortunately she's frequently had to live it. This is one of the things that contributes to her feelings on relationships.

14. How do they deal with injuries? Major: the Saints have a heavily bribed doctor in Stilwater, Steelport and DC. Minor: She usually asks Johnny to bandage if needed bc everyone else is too slow and gentle. Then more or less runs and hides until she's feeling better.

15. What is the MOST embarrassing moment in their life? That time she almost slow danced with Josh Birk at the 4th of July party is certainly up there.

16. Are they a cat or dog person? Cat, I think. I think she wouldn't have thought of herself of much a pet person in general because she grew up without any and she assumes she'd be too lazy to take care of them. But then she goes to a friends house who has a cat. Maybe Mori(which would be funny because his mom affectionately compares Casey to a stray cat). And she doesn't really know how to react around them so she's just kind of like "Sup.". Then the cat just kind of comes and sits on her lap and she's like… oh… warm! Soft. You are my new homie now.

17. Beside the 1950s sitcom, what else would their hell be?Again, just losing all the people she cares about. The only reason that was not her simulation is because Zinyak/the system he uses has a very shallow understanding of the human psyche, not surprising because Zin have a very conscious mind compared to humans where a lot is subconscious. This makes them fairly intelligent but also means they can adapt to changes due to their time travel easily because they just go "oh, a memory has changed.". See also: Pierce's simulation. Maybe everyone's.

18. Which death affects them the most? (Besides Johnny)

Oh this is different because they all impact such different areas of her life. Lin’s death probably had the greatest impact on her actions as a leader.She becomes very front-and centre/self sacrificing because of Lin.

On a more personal level I was going to say Carlos because she had pretty strong feelings for him but actually it's Aisha. Watching how her best friend, who she looks up to more than anyone and basically wanted to be, was just walking around with a piece of him missing really solidified her fear of relationships and anger at the injustice of life and death; things she might have otherwise grown out of/conquered with therapy.

19. What is their favorite music? She likes a pretty wide range of music because she doesn’t want to let anyone down by not following their recommendations and always finds at least one song she likes from the artists they like. Not taking that into account, she really likes '80s shit' and also ska but as a 00s teen she went through the pop punk phase pretty hard too.

20. What are some of their hobbies? Reading, definitely. Almost every spare moment when she gets to the stage where there are spare moments. In high school, Yu-Gi-Oh cards were big for her. Tbh she is pretty nerdy but because she's so technologically challenged her friends don't seem to pick up on that. I feel like in an AU 2020 she would get really into cottagecore during the pandemic then get really pissed because she can't bake or draw or knit.

Hi, I wanted to say that I became a fan of your fic "Never Given Freely" and the thalix ship. Honestly? I kinda see the chemestry between those dorks and I love it.

UNFORTUNATELY, about this time last year I got hit with the chronic illness bat and I've had an extremely limited capacity for any sort of creative endeavor since. I've made Attempts, and I did poke at Never Given Freely like two weeks ago, overall, I'm just.

(It's an immune disorder and while I'm working with doctors to get it back under control, the American Healthcare System is a mess and very little moves quickly.)

It doesn't help that Baldur's Gate 3 and two WoW expansions have happened in the mean time. Gosh I miss my boys, though.

Headcanons, headcanons....

I like to think that the differences between the House of the Chosen and the Temple of Courage is a sense of decorum and where they stand on the glass half full issue.

There is a certain level of dignity and eloquence expected of the Kyrian as a whole, and they are, generally speaking, the sort of people who believe in the best of others and their hearts are full of hope.

Meanwhile, no one cares if you scratch your ass or pick your nose in the House of the Chosen. Enjoy swearing like a sailor? They probably have creative contests to see who can come up with the best cuss words. They also have allllll their memories, and they've seen the worst of people over and over again. They fight all the same battles, defeat all the same evils, and sure, things get better for a little bit, but there's always going to be another asshole rising up to ruin things for everyone else.

That said- Maldraxxi Swearing Contests are strikingly similar to Kyrian Slam Poetry competitions, and boy, both the Chosen and the Courageous love sparring.

Are the Kyrian capable of diplomacy and tactical movements? Yes, but also the hotheads from the Temple of Courage tend to rush headlong into battle ala Leeroy Jenkins. And everyone knows that if *one* Chosen decides to rush headlong into battle, every single one is going to be right behind them, no questions asked.

And it's one of those things where I like to think that the longer Thales is in Maldraxxus, the more he loosens up and lets go of that sense of decorum. Meanwhile, the longer Mevix is exposed to Thales' unyielding optimism and unwavering kindness, the more he starts to believe that protecting the Shadowlands doesn't have to be something he does because he has to, but it could something he does because he truly cares about the world around him.

Also, they are both hopelessly in love, but Mevix is like "no WAY a Kyrian would love a skeleton, I mean look at me" and Thales is like "Haha, Mevix sure does touch me a lot, but so does nearly everyone else here. Clearly Maldraxxi are just physical people and the fact that Mevix nuzzles his forehead against mine means nothing, right?"

Wrong. Mevix is doing the skeleton equivalent of kissing him, even though he knows he should either stop or tell Thales the significance of the gesture.

saw a post abt found family on my dash and it instantly unlocked Thoughts™ so i'm gonna ramble under a read more. thoughts will be both discussion of points brought up in the post and my own thoughts unrelated to it.

(i should also note that i don't hate the post, i do think it brings up some good points, but i don't think i fully see eye to eye with it and reblogging it would feel disingenuous to my own feelings. also i don't think it would be fair to op to reblog it JUST to make counterpoints and observations in the tags. i'm not even sure if all my thoughts would fit in the tag + character limit.)

i'm not trying to defend the western status quo of what a family is here, but if you say family, then lots of people are going to think about a nuclear family first and categorise characters accordingly. that's just how many societies teach shit to people. not saying it's good, but it is how it is. and i doubt that that's going to change anytime soon.

on that note, of COURSE people who sees characters having a parent/child or sibling dynamic are going to get defensive when someone else ships them. that's kind of just common sense??? hell, it's not the exact same but i get weird seeing certain characters shipped if i hc them as aro hard enough. i don't tell people to stop having their own headcanons, though, that's just weird.

although i do think op brings up a good point with their specification of unrelated mature adults, like people get into relationships others many years older/younger than them irl heaps and as long as they're both mature then that's fine. eg a 30 y/o and a 50 y/o getting together is fine.

also i do think that claiming it would be incestuous when the characters are unrelated is going a bit far. and i'm sure op's seen it happen, i can feel it in my bones.

i've never really, truly understood the hype around found family as a concept? and as bizarre as it may sound, i think it's because i have a stable, loving family (and probably the autism as well but mainly the stable family).

i've never even understood the hype around nuclear families. not in a "this is what you should aim for in life" way in this context, but in a "having a family is the greatest and you should love your family" way. like, to me, a family is just either 1; the people you're related to and you kinda just hang out with them i guess, or 2; the people you really really like and care about and you hang out with them.

so when you go to found family, which is meant to reject traditional family roles, i simply?? cannot compute how it's a family??? like a family, to me in my mind, at bare minimum, is siblings. if there aren't even siblings then wouldn't it just be a really close friend group at that point??? and i know this is a case of letting people label their relationships however they want and i should really just shut up and keep my nose out of other peoples' business, but i simply. cannot understand. and maybe it's just past midnight but i don't think i ever will. and i do feel like i'm missing out on something by not understanding why found family is so important to people. why it's so important to my friends.

A huge part of this fandom likes to view zhongli as the bad evil, manipulative asshole who cares for no one. Even with the last xiao quest, they twisted it somehow to him manipulating xiao and enslaving him. They see his care for contracts as a fault but don’t realize that he did so in the first place because he wanted to honor guizhong and protect liyue. I know everyone is entitled to their HC but i really dislike this portrayal of him and i have long stopped checking ao3, because no matter the ship or character, the risk of running into this portrayal of zhongli is never zero. I also used to not mind either dynamic for chili but now i can only tolerate one side because the other is filled with landmines it’s really tragic

Yeah, as you can see I've noticed it too and it's infuriating. I'm so tired of seeing threads on twitter about how the other two archons that we know about are much better gods to their nation than Zhongli was because these people refuse to understand him and pushed him into a box he doesn't belong.

I hate people using Zhongli's contracts as proof that he's cruel when one of his rules for contracts is that they need to be fair. He was also fair in his punishment to those who broke contracts as we saw in his first character quest. Even Paimon and the Traveler believed he was going to hurt the girl even though they should know by now that he's not that type of person.

What's interesting though is that a contract is a formal promise and people love to praise the characters who try to keep their promises and punish those who don't, like Childe.

I headcanon that it's one of the reasons Zhongli was drawn to Childe because they both value promises. People love to make Zhongli and Childe out like they're opposites but they have a lot in common which is why I think they make a good couple.

Personally, I avoid a lot of content in fandom now, especially when it comes to specified top Zhongli fics on AO3 as I find people who enjoy it are more likely to make Zhongli into a cruel god who needs Childe to show him how to be human which is incredibly ironic as Childe is more isolated from humanity than Zhongli.

Actually, I find it annoying that people think Zhongli needs help learning about humans from Childe because that's what he learned from Guizhong! She helped him connect with the humans he was protecting and he's continued to do so beyond her death. Zhongli is actually pretty intrigrated with the humans of Liyue. If anything, now is the time for Zhongli to focus on himself.

I really disliked Xiao at first because some of his fans and the vocal fans of the ship for Xiao and Venti liked to portray him as the suffering servant under Zhongli. No matter what Zhongli does for Xiao, whether it's saving him from his previous master, making sure he has medication to help with his Karmic Debt or even saving him when he was about to sacrifice himself, he's always the bad guy to these people.

Actually can we discuss Zhongli saving Xiao a bit more? And all of their interactions during that quest. Xiao didn't come to Zhongli to ask for permission to find out the identity of the nameless Yaksha, he did it as a formality because of his loyalty towards Zhongli. In the Chinese version, Zhongli asks him if he really has to go and when Xiao says he needs too, he doesn't push any harder and accepts it's something he needs to do. Yet he still made sure to keep an eye out on Xiao incase he faced danger he couldn't escape from.

If that doesn't say how much Zhongli cares about Xiao, I really don't know what will.

It's honestly gotten to the point I try to avoid fics with Xiao in if I can because I'm tired of Zhongli being made the antaognist in them, especially ship fics. I remember a story I was reading on AO3 I was enjoying until they introduced Zhongli and he was behaving like such a goddamn creep it actually gave me goosebumps.

Zhongli is such a caring soul, he's the doting grandfather of Liyue. He has his faults but he's nowhere near as bad as some people like to make him out to be. It's because he's both a god and part dragon and because of this people like to force the western view of gods and dragons onto him. We need more fics that focus on the qilin aspect of his character.

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. (I'm hoping for Damian, mostly because any other of his children would be waaaaaaaaaaaaay too old.) @artemisa97

Okay sooooooo what if I just rambled for a while about Siren AU because it's been in my drafts forever?

ajsjsjdjd okay okay this is stupid but hear my out, sirens lament au for the Hero of Legend. If you don't know, Sirens Lament was a webtoon I used to love and ajskd gosh I still adore the lore ajsjd

Basically the sirens are cursed, they were people who had a broken heart and were lured into the ocean by a siren song. The siren sings, kisses the person who has a broken heart and the curse is transferred, with the siren becoming human again and starting a new life and the broken hearted person losing their memories and becoming a siren themselves. They're left to roam the oceans until they can find someone to pass the curse onto themselves for a chance at a new life. Idk, with just how badly Koholint affected this guy I've always thought the vibe fit.

Arin let me ramble about this for a while a couple months ago and we thought up a couple ideas, so mainly the AU would go:

-Link grew up on Koholint Island as a normal resident. He lived a pretty happy life and and was sweet on his friend Marin

-one day tradegy strikes (I'm thinking it's because Link wasn't able to stop it, probably by monsters) and Marin passes. I don't know if it was just Marin or if the village was destroyed as well during the attack

-Link is absolutely heartbroken and feels like it was his fault, the pains too much and he ends up taking a sirens deal

-Then he's just wandering the ocean, having no idea where he came from or even what his name is. Sirens are effectively immortal, so who knows how many years he wandered for. He has no intention of passing on his curse though, he doesn't want anyone else to have to go through what hes had to.

-not all sad though, Link likes to learn stories and observe people. He loves singing as well, and has an angelic voice (I'll link a vid at the bottom of this post lol) He messes with ships and has a passtime of scaring sailors or those who come too close curious about his singing.

-For main storyline we jump to a coastal town where there's rumors about a monster that lurks in the nearby sea caves. There's one girl however who isn't afraid (Malon, the farmers daughter.) She often goes near there to listen to the otherworldly, melancholy melodies. They'll even sing together at times.

-Then you know, they eventually meet and,, Link has a friend again for the first time in who knows how long and Malon realizes the "monster" maybe isn't so otherworldly as everyone thought

There's more thoughts, like "Link" being the name he's chosen for himself (he saw it on some sunken items ones that should have been familiar and decided he liked it,,) Legend sharing his stories with Malon (ones he's picked up and,,, maybe ones about his own travels eventually as well), them loving to sing together (cave acoustics pretty) Malon giving him the first gentle physical contact he's had in years, feelings starting to grow but,,, things can only develop so far when he's determined not to pass his curse on to anyone TvT,,, someone he cares about losing their memories and basically their life would be a nightmare to him.

I think there were still a few more thoughts somewhere Arin and I had but ill stop there for now. Anyways yeah! If you read this far thanks for listening to me ramble lol. I care this au a lot as silly as it is TvT

HELL FUCKING YEAH, LET'S GO!

When I was a kid, I liked katoph okay but didn't think much of it. This feeling basically persisted until 2020.

In 2020, I started writing my azulaang book 1. Falling into the azulaang hole unknowingly led me to falling into the katoph hole as well when I decided to pair them together. At the beginning, they were just supposed to be a background ship, because I didn't want either of them to be alone and I didn't want to put in the work of pairing them off with strangers. Little did I know that what was seemingly a simple decision would lead to the discovery of a gold mine.

I consider myself the king of the azulaang/katoph combo, and I'm pretty comfortable on my throne.

By the time my book 1 was starting to come to a close, I realized that I wanted to write a katoph prequel series of how they got together. Writing that scene in chapter 10 of "Chakras" where Aang visits Omashu, Toph tells him the truth, and he and Katara have that conversation about the end of their romantic relationship is what sealed the day. I knew I HAD to explore what led to katoph becoming my canon.

Let me talk about this ship's appeal both through the lens of my AU and outside that lens.

In my AU, I got to explore a slowburn friends-to-lovers, with the juicy dramatic tidbit of the first one with a crush to feel super guilty over it because the target of her affections is the ex of her other best friend.

Many people, in universe and out, would easily categorize Toph as a warrior and Katara as a diplomat. I leaned into that perception by making Toph the master of a dojo and Katara a literal ambassador so that I could explore what many, in and out of universe, fail to see. The truth is that these ladies are onions. They got layers. Toph can easily be calm and strategic, and Katara has more than enough ability to be a ruthless motherfucker.

(brief aside, I fucking hate the following fan-headcanons: momtara and murder goblin toph. It ain't fucking funny anymore and there's too many assholes and dumbasses running their mouths when they should be shutting the fuck up. These hcs ignore canon and pigeonhole these complex ladies into basic archetypes. Stop fucking doing that)

In "Waves," Katara needed someone to take care of her and to put her back on the right track. Toph just doesn't take care of Katara, she spurred Kat on to take better care of herself. I can't go into too many details because they'd be spoilers, but as I discussed in chapter 13, Katara NEEDED Toph, even if she herself didn't know it at the time.

I've already touched on what Toph gets out of the relationship and why she has a crush on Katara, but it bears repeating: Katara made Toph's house into a real home. When Toph goes home, there's someone who cares about her waiting for her. I knew exactly what I was doing when I wrote that scene of Toph coming home to find Katara making a home-cooked meal for them.

Both of these ladies were lonely in their own ways, and they saved each other from that loneliness.

Katara always admired the warrior in Toph, but over time has recognized how much of a thoughtful and caring diplomat Toph can be. On her part, Toph admires the shit out of what Katara has done with her life as an ambassador, and, unlike some, she knows better than to underestimate just how strong Katara is.

I'm giving myself goosebumps just thinking about what I've written for them and what I plan to write for them.

Outside of my AU, I think Katara and Toph strike a fascinating balance between being very different people and similar people. Both have been underestimated by the world, which led them to grow into the badasses they are today. The parallels between "You can't knock me down!" and "I am the greatest earthbender in the world!" are there to those with open eyes. The only waterbender in the South Pole, unable to explore and expand her talents, and the Blind Bandit, hidden away by her parents. Are you seeing the pattern here?

How can you hear Toph call Kat "Sugar Queen" and "Sweetness" and not want them to date? They went on a literal fucking spa date in canon. Katara was the first person to call Toph pretty. Toph brought Katara's inner criminal out into the world. She helped Toph write a letter to her estranged mom! Yes, they argue a lot, and sometimes it went a little too far, but the arguments work to explore and enhance their relationship. That's what good character conflicts are supposed to do.

In summary, KATOPH IS FUCKING PHENOMENAL, IT'S SUPER UNDERRATED, AND MORE PEOPLE NEED TO RECOGNIZE ITS GENIUS!
