AITA for turning someone in for academic dishonesty?

I’m an American IB diploma candidate, and this ask does center around that, so sorry if we all just sound unbearably seventeen-years-old.

If you don’t know what the IB diploma is, think of it as if you had to write a bunch of essays and take a bunch of classes and do a bunch of service hours and then take AP tests on all those classes and add the AP scores together, and if they add up to a certain number, you get a special diploma that looks good to colleges.

Only eight people in the entire grade (we’re seniors and our exams are happening so we’re at the very end) are left in the IB diploma program right now because we made it this far and are all hoping our exam scores and essays. The program isn’t super popular at our school so we tend to have to mostly prepare ourselves for exams and such, so we’re all very proud of ourselves for getting this far and hoping that when our scores come out we get the diploma.

In short, we’ve done TONS of work. TONS OF WORK. And we haven’t received the amount of support that some IB schools are able to give. And suddenly, one of the IB diploma candidates admits in the group chat, “yeah, chatgpt wrote all of my IB essays.” If you know stuff about IB, she explicitly admitted to cheating on her Extended Essay, TOK Essay, TOK exhibition, Chemistry HL IA, History HL IA, Literature HL Essay, and Art HL Comparative Study.

That’s hours and hours and hours and hours of work that the rest of the diplomats candidates did that she’s just flippantly admitting she let an AI do for her.

but…….it also wasn’t really any of my business. So I wasn’t sure whether I should tell or not—especially since I’m the known goody-two-shoes of the group and I didn’t want to be viewed as a tattletale.

I asked two of the diploma candidates I’m friends with what they thought. One of them said “don’t be a snitch,” and the other said she wasn’t sure and kinda felt like I should talk. So… split response.

I was leaning towards “don’t be a snitch,” but eventually I just felt really indignant that this girl and I might receive the same end result for doing wildly different amounts of work. And I had evidence that she cheated—she admitted it herself. So I went to the school’s IB coordinator and I talked. I showed the screenshot. I essentially betrayed one of the candidates in a very tight knit group of students who are all breaking our backs to get this diploma with little to no IB-specific support from our teachers (our classes are all co-seated with non-IB-test-takers, who take up most of the class, which is an entirely different issue), but now it turns out one of us wasn’t even doing the work the whole time…

So I did it and it went to the administration and they’re “deciding how to proceed.”

Reason I’m worried I’m TA: she trusted us with that information and I told on her

Reason I think I might not be TA: it feels unfair that we should have the same shot at getting the IB diploma when the nights I stayed up crafting the perfect extended essay were the same nights she asked chatgpt to write her an essay and then moved on with her life and somehow did it well enough to not get caught.

a/n: happy (belated) valentines day, everyone ! hope you enjoy this one <3 actually i was finishing it in the middle of the night so im sorry if something’s not clear :(

For the past few days, your routine has been staying almost unchanged. You’ve been studying almost from the first rays of the morning sun till the moment when the moon was already shining on the dark night sky, only with some breaks for making more coffee or for going to the bathroom. Coffee and a pack of some crackers were the only thing that was on your menu, and the amount of sleep you got (or maybe actually you didn’t get) was already starting to really make Joshua really worried about your health. Your eyes started to look dull, losing the spark in it from the exhaustion and the dark circles under your eyes were only growing bigger.

As a good best friend he was, the boy decided to get something to eat for you, that can actually be called food, and help you rest a bit. Of course, he understood that studying for that exam was really important for you, but he knew that if he won’t take care of you then neither will you.

Joshua was currently rushing towards the college library with a small bag in his hand. He was sure that he'd find you there, in the place where you always sit — second floor, the table in the right corner by the window.

And he was right. As soon as he spotted your fragile figure, sitting there while being engrossed in books, his eyes shone and a smile flashed by his lips. Joshua always adored the fact how cute you looked when your hair got messy (even when you hated it, and always sulked when he laughed at it). For him, you look beautiful every time, even when you look like a walking corpse.

You had your earphones plugged in, busy writing something down in your notebook when the boy approached you. Joshua placed the bag on the table which immediately made you look up, confused, what made you meet his beautiful eyes.

“Joshie!” you exclaimed, taking one of your earphones out and stopping the music on your phone, “What are you doing here?”

“I came here to check on you if you’re still alive, and brought something for you to eat.” he pointed with his head at the bag that he left on the table, “I can’t let you starve after all.”

You reached for the bag, and found three triangle kimbaps, two water bottles and a small pack of cookies. The sight of your favorite snacks and something else to drink instead of coffee made your stomach immediately rumble to which Joshua smiled to himself, under his nose.

The triangle kimbap that Joshua brought for you turned out to actually be a gift from heaven as you didn’t realize how hungry you actually were. You decided to offer one of the kimbaps to Josh, but he refused politely, explaining that he already ate lunch with Jeonghan and Seungcheol.

“Ahh! That was the thing I actually needed!” you stated, stretching on your chair, “Thank you so much, Joshie.”

“Not a problem, that’s what I’m here for.” he replied, chuckling a bit, “By the way, how’s your studying progress? Can you already see the finish line?” Joshua asked, sitting on the chair next to you.

“Well.. yeah! Only one chapter has left, but I can go through it. Now that I finally ate something, I can study more effectively.” you winked to Josh while grabbing the earphones back, “You want one?”

He looked at you, and sent you a bright smile, “Of course, why not?” the boy took the right earphone from you, and plugged it into his ear. As soon as he did it, sounds of R&B/indie music reached his ears.

And that’s how you actually started to study one last chapter with your best friend by your side. For the entire time, Josh was looking slightly at your focused face.

You were studying finances, while Joshua was silently studying your face.

After 25 minutes, you couldn’t take it anymore. You started to hit your head against the notebook which made Joshua widen his eyes a little, and let out a small chuckle. When you were about to hit yourself another time, the boy quickly slipped his hand under your head which prevented you from your forehead meeting the desk again.

“What are you doing, huh?” Joshua asked calmly, while looking at you with a bright smile.

“I can’t! I just- I can’t! This chapter actually is total shit, I can’t focus and I don’t understand anything..” you mumbled as you looked up at him with a small pout.

Josh took his hand from the desk, and tilted his head to the side, “Hey.. maybe it’s actually a sign for you to take a small break, hm?” the boy questioned, and you let out a small sigh, “No, Josh. I can’t. I have to finish this..” you replied, leaning your head over one of your arms once again, still looking at the boy.

“But you won’t make any progress if you’ll be stuck on this one chapter. You have to get some rest to let your brain not think about anything for a second, and sleep for a few hours. You know..” suddenly, the boy stopped as his eyes landed on your face, only to notice you being asleep.

Joshua smiled to himself, “See? Small break won’t hurt you..” he whispered, and leaned closer to you to brush the strand of your hair that fell over your face behind your ear. The boy took off his coat, and put it over your body to keep you warm.

But couldn’t resist it, Shua also laid on his arm, and started to silently look at you. He couldn’t disagree that when you were asleep, you looked like a literal angel. Too pure for this cruel world.

“You can’t believe how many times a day I think about you.” he started quietly, “About what you’re doing now.. if you’ve already eaten.. if you’re asleep. My mind is always occupied with thoughts about you.” the boy stated, as he chuckled lightly.

“Since the day I first saw you.. There was something about you, that now I can't remember. But I know that it made me feel some things..” Joshua continued, “And I’m pretty sure that It's the same damn thing that made my heart surrender for you not so long after.”

“Oh.. only if you were mine.”

“I did it Joshie, I did it!” you were jumping around the boy with a big grin on your face, and the boy was looking proudly at you. A week had already passed since the incident in the library.

“See? Taking some breaks during studying is useful.” he chuckled at the end, and you pulled him into a tight.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” you exclaimed happily, and started to jump once again with the boy still pulled into your hug. “If not you then I probably wouldn’t have passed it.”

Joshua looked down at you, tilting his head a bit, “What are you even talking about? You were the one who did all the work. I was just taking care of you so you wouldn’t pass away on that chair-”

“Exactly! If not you then I’d starve myself to death and exhaust myself till death and many, many more things. How would I pass my exam then?” you asked, “Ah, I swear to god, you’re the best friend ever!”

Yeah. Friend.

“Then maybe to celebrate it, we’ll go and grab some ice cream?” Joshua proposed, and your eyes immediately lightened up at the word ‘ice cream’.

“Yes, ice cream! Let’s go!” you took him by his hand, and pulled him strongly to which he almost lost his balance.

When the two of you finally finished eating your ice cream, visited the bookshop and the arcade, bought a soft plushie, took some photos in a photobooth, and stopped by a restaurant to eat something, it was already dark outside. The moon was shining brightly, leaning its light against your faces.

“Oh shit!” suddenly, you exclaimed as you looked through your phone.

“What happened?” Shua asked, slightly confused by your sudden action.

“My roommate just texted me that she won’t be home tonight. And I forgot to take my pair of keys!” you sulked, hugging the plushie tightly to your body. “Why is life so stupid.”

“I mean.. we can do a sleepover at my place.” Joshua proposed, “No, Josh. I’ve already used too much of your kindness. It would be too much.”

The boy crossed his hands over his chest, “I’m the one to decide how much kindness you’ve already used, and there will never be a time when it’s gonna be ‘too much’ ”

“But can I? Really?” you asked, “Of course you can! We’ve done it many times, and it’s nothing new for us to have a sleepover.” Josh chuckled as the two of you started going in his house’s direction.

And finally, after a 15 minute walk, the two of you arrived at his apartment. Shua took some of the spare sweatpants you keep in his drawer, and gave you his shirt so you could use it as a pair of pajamas. As soon as you brushed your teeth and did your skincare, you laid on the couch, and covered yourself with a blanket.

“What are you doing?” you heard Joshua asking you from behind, “Why are you laying here?”

“To sleep, duh?” you replied to him, but not even 5 seconds have passed and you already were picked up by a pair of strong hands, and carried to the bed in a bridal style by Joshua.

“You need to sleep comfortably. You had an exhausting week, and you need to rest properly. If you feel uncomfortable, I can sleep on the couch-”

“No, sleep here.” the words immediately spilled out of you, “With me.”

If not for the weak light in the bedroom, Joshua would have seen the pink blush that appeared on your cheeks as you realized how brave you were to say those words.

Finally, after some time the boy cleared his throat, and you immediately buried yourself deep into the soft, white duvet, trying to calm down your rapidly beating heart.

Oh come on! You two had sleepovers many times, and the fact that you two slept together never really bothered you.

Then why did it suddenly make you feel that uneasy?

One last glance at the digital clock — it was already past midnight. Joshua turned off the lights, and you could feel how the mattress bent behind you, under the boy’s weight. He shifted closer to you, but was not able to touch you.

“Joshie..?” you uttered lightly, to which the boy hummed in response.

“What do you think about when the thoughts are eating you up?” you questioned, and it took him a while to finally say, “I think about you.”

“Huh?” you turned yourself to meet his angelic face right behind you. The glow of the moon was resting softly over his face, making him look even better.

“When I think about you, something similar to peace and calmness spreads through my entire body.” he answered silently, “You are my peace.”

And that was the last sentence he could say, because you quickly gave into him, breaking the inches between you two in a soft kiss.

Your first kiss.

When you pulled away, you couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, “I can’t believe that all of this time I was so blind, looking for somebody perfect for me when I had them right next to me.” you uttered, and Josh sent you a slight smile.

“Now when I recall everything.. I was always thinking about you. Joshie.” you looked deeply into his beautifully shining eyes.

“If you were having fun with the boys, if you were not overworking yourself, and if you were happy from what you were doing.” you stopped for a second only to add, “I was always thinking about you.”

And the silence between the two of you had fallen. But it probably wasn’t meant to be quiet, as you took a deep breath, before saying, “Joshie, can I be your girlfriend?”

Woah.

The boy froze immediately, and blinked his eyes a few times before a warm smile spreaded along his lips, and he collected your lips once again. “Of course you can, angel.” he replied sweetly, “Happy Valentines day, my love.” Joshua brought your lips back together, with his head full off another amount of thoughts that kept running through his head.

And all of them were actually only about you.

Scribbr's knowledge base is also a great place for learning about research and stats. please don't be scared of it honestly. just show it some patience and effort and it will love you back i promise.

Alan Carr for Positive Psychology (favorite textbook of mine)

Samuel Gladding for Counseling

i think this should cover the basics for you. master's stuff is advanced and i would recommend going through all the readings in your program's booklist + try finding allied reference readings for the same. read up a lot of research studies and quote them in class/exams to make your work stand out.

read, read, and read. no other way around it.

This doesn’t need to be posted I just need to scream into the void. First, I LOVE BIG BANG! Almost all of my absolute favourite fics have come from 1d big bang over the years so it is really the gift that keeps giving. My second comment is more just me reflecting on the absurdity of things. The first year I was paying attention to this fandom’s big bang was 2018 and it perfectly overlapped with my IB exam period. The next four years following that I was always in undergrad exams when fics were released, and now I’m in my second year of law school with fics starting the come out less than a week before my first exam. Despite this, I am one of the insane people who almost always reads every fic the day it comes out. I’m not sure whether this helps or hinders my studying but given that I’ve gotten this far, I’d say it can’t have done too much damage. Thanks for keeping this running and I cannot put into to words how excited I am for this round of fics. All the work that goes into this is so so deeply appreciated <3

Nonnie, this is a secret look into those of us here at Big Bang HQ preparing for this round's posting to get started, so we feel it! hehe

Okay, so maybe we aren't all physically dancing, and maybe we aren't so young and chipper as these guys, and MAYBE we are still working on the most nerve wracking part of the whole fest as mods: the posting schedule (that is a loose we in many ways, but we sure do ADORE and greatly appreciate all of the time and effort @beccasafan puts into this for us)... but in so many ways we really are dancing in excitement for this round's fics!

I also love that you have this almost tradition of pairing the Big Bang reading with your studying every year, and have to agree it doesn't seem to have done you any harm! I hope that as you continue to study and read fic as a way of balancing work with fun that it will bring you much luck and easy remembrance during your exams again this year! how long have you been learning Spanish? I've been at it for upwards of five years and I can barely hold conversion 😭

Okay so I've only formally studied it for four years, but here are some reasons I think my brain was receptive to learning the language:

My parents would play Spanish-teaching CD's for me as a kid. They didn't help me that much because my parents didn't know Spanish and also I was a child, but I think it's part of why the language clicks in my brain

My elementary school also attempted to teach me Spanish.

When I got to high school and began to formally study Spanish, I had to prepare for an eventual IB exam, which required me to be able to give a speech in Spanish without knowing the topic ahead of time, converse in Spanish about a topic I didn't get to prepare for, and be able to pass a listening comprehension test in whatever accent happened to be on the IB exam. All of that makes reading and writing seem easy

I'm also not great at the conversation part. When I talk online in Spanish, y'all can't see my brain buffering, but it buffers. In-person conversations are hard, and I still sometimes mess things up or use a word that's technically right but uncommon in colloquial Spanish.

I've talked a lot with native Spanish-speakers in person, which helps a lot

Hey! I'm about to start my medical college journey & am a little confused about the books to read in the first year. Could you please help me? I looked thru your blog & it seems like at your uni they follow a pattern and timeline similar to the Indian medical system, so I thought I'd pop by & ask you for some advice :)

Hey, first of all, congratulations and welcome to the Fraternity!

As for the books:

Anatomy

General anatomy : get the bdc or vishram singh general anatomy pdf or get the book from library once you are in college and give a read to important topics and go through the terminologies. You can read general anatomy now, before you go to college or during your foundation course classes

Gross anatomy : The preferred book by students is BDC but i read vishram singh. It has very easy to remember diagrams and things are given in points, i suppose you will feel easier to understand and remember. May be, you can go to a store and see both books and decide (goes for all the books, I'll write here about my personal experience only)

Embryology : Get a langman from senior or if it is okay, buy it too. It's an international book but quite good. You don't have to go through everything but the important topics. Vishram singh embryology is also nice. I got to know about it just few days before exam but it was nice. And please don't neglect embryology. Your friends and seniors will say that it doesn't matter, it does. I suppose i could have got distinction in anatomy if only i had read embryo properly since in paper 1, i couldn't write one answer at all. (Like distinction is not everything, it's just kind of an achievement that can boost you?)

Histology : we read IB singh and mostly, our class notes.

Osteology : Again, class notes. But i guess, poddar is being followed here. I had the pdf. So, see if your college has good teacher who teaches you well, take notes of the bones and revise them. Well, vishram singh gross books also have bone sections and its quite nice.

Physiology

Guyton is the best book. If it is possible for you, get that book either from a senior or from a store. Seniors will tell you otherwise most of the time unless you are in AIIMS or the top colleges. Don't listen to them. I regret not studying standard books, they are gem. But you have to start from initial days and again, make notes of important topics. For exam purpose, you can read your notes and Sembulingam. Thats a nice book. You can keep a pdf. We used AK jain too. But in case you are reading Guyton, making notes and using Sembu, you don't need it. And get the AK jain practical book.

Biochemistry

The standard books are Lippincott and Harper. They are review books. Other than that we followed Satyanarayan or Vasudevan. Satyanarayan is better for exams i feel. Since its like a note. You can keep one of them as physical book and other as pdf. Keep whatever pdf you get actually. And as you proceed, you will get to know about more study materials like Jambulkar. That's nice note but use that as a revision tool.

In our college, for practical in biochemistry, we real our practical copies only. So, i have no idea what other colleges follow for practical

Do join telegram channels, you will get whatever pdf you need and important topics. I will suggest you to read every topic but make notes or proper annotation of important topics and of course, revision of them.

That's all i can remember now. Its not like you need to buy all the books right now itself. See those books in library or get the pdfs and go through random topics and whatever you feel nice, you can buy it. And as i said, keep all pdfs. Mbbs is not like preparing for neet. There will be topics easier to understand or easier to present in exam in different book than yours. But you cannot buy all books so pdf works. And do feel free to ask whatever doubt you have!

plot: you wondered what made him change his mind; why did he have to go away so quickly and so easily? was it because it was you?

a/n: idk what this was,,, and it’s been a while since i last wrote, but hopefully you guys like it!!

It’s too loud.

The familiar setting of you coming to this exact bar at least twice a week hits a little too close to home this time around, and the eerie feeling in your gut cannot pinpoint why it does. You had received a text from a friend of yours that you haven’t talked to in a while, unsure as to why he had texted you out of the blue. It wasn’t like he was obligated to still talk to you, when it was you that had broken things off with his best friend; he should’ve cut you off in the first place.

Yunho, however, was a man of wild cards as he had called you on his cell phone, incoherently asking you to pick him up and drop him off at his apartment in exchange for a coffee outing in the morning. You think you shouldn’t decline it in the first place, knowing that it’s the last stretch of final exams for the fall semester, and that you were just one semester away from graduating college.

But you hated this scene.

You currently stand out in the middle of the bar, looking for the tall man that had called you previously in hopes that you could just grab him and go, but nothing could ever prepare you for the sight that you were graced with.

In the corner of the bar you see him, the person that you once thought that you were going to have everything with.

Song Mingi was someone that came into your life almost unexpectedly, gracing his presence into your life at the same time that you had met Yunho. The two had almost come together as a package duo, and the you from years ago would’ve laughed at the idea of you being the one to break things off with the latter. However it was the idea of the future that had scared both you and Mingi that you had finally made a choice for the two of you; to go your separate ways before you can hurt the other.

The breakup was still fresh in your mind, as it had only been three weeks since you had seen them both and the rest of your mutual friend group. You thought that it would’ve been best to distance yourself from them all so that you could take the time to heal and love yourself better, but standing in the middle of this bar made you feel anything but that.

There was someone else in his lap, making out with him and he had been holding them closer to him more than you would’ve liked.

“Are you okay?”

The three words were said from behind you, and for some reason it comforts you in the worst ways possible. You turn to face an old flame of yours, one that you knew was also a victim in this case because from what you heard, he had recently gotten out of a relationship as well. The girl that he used to be with was someone that he told you not to worry about, but in this moment you realize that it was now him who was on your end of the stick.

You wanted to laugh in his face at his question, but you also knew that he once knew you on the back of his hand. He knew that you had been hurting inside, because this was quite possibly your last straw with falling in love with someone; and he had known you were dating for the long run, rather than just in the moment.

“Was it really that easy to let me go?” You whispered harshly, more towards yourself as you looked between Mingi who was now no longer in the spot that you had seen him in, and the person beside you.

The look of pity mixed in with guilt had said everything that you needed to, and maybe tonight was not the night where you could’ve easily picked up the pieces. Maybe you needed more time to heal, and to be away from them because now that you remember it, they were all in one friend group.

“Y/N, there you are!” You hear Yunho say from behind you, and for a moment you think that you were saved by his timing to get you out of the suffocating place, “Are you still okay with driving me back?”

You looked up at the latter with a fake smile, tugging on his sleeve to guide him out carefully as you left your past behind with all the unspoken words between you both. Maybe if you weren’t in such conditions, you could step forward and hear about all the things that had gone wrong between you two.

But for now, you think that it’s better to love yourself first, before you find it even more dangerous to fall in love with someone new.
