trying to hide your giddiness, you not so carefully navigated your way through the cafe, caution and slowness flying out the window at the prospect of hearing the man’s voice again, seeing his eyes glance at you and away.

you place his order down at the table, and a shy smile springs to your lips. you want to say something to him, but your lips stay stagnant, stubbornly not moving as thousands of possible words get stuck in your throat. disappointed, you turn around, starting to leave before a voice pierces through your gloom.

“um, what’s your name?”

the words stuck in your throat un-lodge. as your name tumbles out from your lips, a soft hum comes from xiao as he nods, his eyes swallowing your heart whole.

“that’s pretty.” he hesitates, stopping the next words that were about to come out of his mouth. you nod politely and leave again, your heart on a temporary high from talking to him.

after a bit though, the high fades and you’re left wanting more, as if he was a sweet candy you couldn’t get enough of. your mind had decided that, most likely, the interaction you both just had was the last you would ever had. your heart, on the other hand disagreed.

and this time, your heart was right.

you placed xiaos new order down at his table, politely smiling and willing your heart not to splatter your feelings everywhere.

you breathed through your nose, feeling lightheaded as xiaos eyes pierced you, the gaze so intense you could feel yourself hearing up.

“i um. i missed my chance to ask you last time. so i got another item.” before you could reply he took a deep breath and out stumbled the words,

okay WEIRD HEADCANON TIME

I've been meaning to watch this since it finished airing but feels like it's gonna deal with some Emotions and trauma, so kept putting it off. the time's here though

Also, it's my first BL in a month, I finished Candy Colour Paradox on May 16 and then watched like 6 non-BL shows, that's the longest stretch I've gone without watching a BL since Dec 2021 I'm pretty sure

there’s this vibe that jaewon has like he really is a beloved senior who is very casual and knows he is respected and has the confidence that comes from being in this element for a while. It makes me understand the appeal of a college senior; many shows have a dynamic between a senior and an underclassman but not many can show me the appeal so clearly.

Eunji is soooo bitchy, making Jihyun work so hard and also lying about Jaewon wanting to be her group partner agh and even breaking the glass. I'm actually very receptive to terrible women (recently: rancid personality Yeji in From Now On, Showtime! and just terrible horrible Seon Ah in The Devil Judge) but she's sooo mean and terrible D: the way she's threatening and being rude to the owner as well agh

It was interesting and I think the show had a good grasp on characters and relationship dynamics and progression but it didn't burrow in my heart the way it did for many people, esp those who watched while on air. I liked that there were friendships each character had and that they existed outside of just this relationship; even some of the friends existed outside of just being a friend, like Yonnwon was a whole human. The female friends were great, Yoonwon is a treasure and I liked how Aeri was so sweet but so mean sometimes, a very clever city girl type. Also, the tension and cute moments between Jihyun and Jaewon were great, especially in ep 6 and 10.

I know there was stuff with the colours and going in and out of light vs dark and how it represented the characters and I caught almost none of that but I'm sure that would've made the experience better. Also, I listened to a bunch of podcasts discussing this (and still have another one Boys Love Boys Love that's going through it ep by ep) and some of them mentioned that Jihyun's actor apparently has no prior experience and was literally picked up off the street to do screen testing, a la kpop boys.

I think it's a good show that's done well but right now, it's not taking up much brain space and it also didn't make me viscerally feel anything, so it's at the place of good show but i won't be thinking much about it. In the future if I do find myself thinking about the characters or plot or whatever, I'll bump it up the same way I did for Blueming.

That scene of Claire and Leon talking outside of the White House is awful. Forget the argument over the chip, both of them are sooo out of character for me here. You're right, Leon has never treated Claire like a kid, more like his equal. And Claire has always been super witty. I think something in the script got terribly translated because even the choice/order of words sounds unnatural? Or the actors improvised like with the save-the-damsel on the catwalk scene.

then in Degeneration? when the annoying dude shits on Claire, Leon immediately jumps to her defense telling them that she survived Raccoon City, she's badass, she's got this, shut up you ignorant man. he trusts her judgement, he lets her do what she wants to do and doesn't treat her like a kid at any point during the movie. (I do have some gripes of how Leon was in this movie lol but he does not baby or belittle Claire)

even in Infinite Darkness he doesn't treat her like a kid! unless we're counting the "Don't do anything stupid" and "I thought I told you not to do anything stupid" but to me those both came across 100% as jokes. the delivery of the lines makes it impossible for me to take it as anything other than a joke. which then somehow for some reason flies right over Claire's head in the ending scene? idek it does feel improvised, you're right! because it certainly has no backing in actual canon.

and you're right, Claire is witty. Claire is clever. I was fully expecting her to shoot back something teasing or joking or idek. something sharp! but instead we just get the "Hellooooooo" which is so weird it makes me grimace every time I watch the scene.

idek what went wrong but something went wrong with their characterization. and most of all with their relationship. because forgetting the chip-drama, forgetting the disagreement, they still act so stiff around one another both times they talk and it's just really off.
