Why did Jasnah betrothe Shallan & Adolin, where Adolin is the most eligible bachelor in Alethkar basically and they have a SIX YEAR AGE GAP. (shallan is 17 adolin is 23 NEVER forget this.)

And not— Renarin. Two year age gap. Shallan would still be tied to the family.

a BIG part of the lore of Dungeon Meshi is how ageism is bad. About how the long lived races treat the young lived races like children and thus infantilize them and do not show them the respect and understanding they deserve simply because of their looks or short life spans. Whether its because to them they look like children in their eyes (like half foots and gnomes) or because the adult ages of the younger lived races are still in the child ages for the longer lived ones and so they get treated/viewed as children (we see otta receive comments about getting with minors when in reality she dated adult half foot women. so we already see this view towards things like this are a thing in the lore) We see this with chilchuck, senshi, and marcille where the two later view chilchuck as a child and treat him like one even though he is a full grown man who drinks (and is supposed to have grey hairs) all because he looks young and in the newest episode its revealed he is 29 which is still young children to the two of them. We see how perspectives that characters are children because of their age being a childs age for a different race as opposed to their race or because they look like children is a completely infantilizing and disrespectful behavior that causes so many problems in the long run. a theme that is completely flying over the average tumblr users head.

you absolute fool you missed a major theme of the fucking story. But because they look young suddenly they are children? have you paid no attention to the story? did you just ignore how the ageisim and weird mindset about ages like that causes so many issues that could easily have been avoided. and as for the age one i see people getting furious at others for being into and sexualizing izutsumi even though she is a year past adult in tall man years, but because she isnt in the adult age range in real life (wild your applying real life society standards to a fictional medieval fantasy world). even though even in lore she would be well an adult able to get married and everything tumblr really does have the media literacy of a toddler.

literally you cant beat it. the bad kids, who have shown that they excel at real adventure and real combat, get to do a practical exam mixed with academics (which suits them fine bc even without the meta answering, adaine and riz are nerds), AND THEY BLOW IT OUT OF THE PARK!!

they do the best job anyone has ever done.

what made this episode so perfect, besides great gags, even better rolls, and tons of mini-maxi map work, was that it cemented that not only are these our protagonists, but the bad kids are Protagonists with a capital P.

they hear gavin say no one has lasted for the whole thing. they said bet. and they WON. they do everything that they do best. fig, gorgug, fabian, and riz do crazyyy damage, with brilliant support from adaine and kristen (who also do sick shit and great damage).

like the oracle she is adaine jumps in with dust mephits that go out with a bang, a portent crit for fig, scattering the players and gavin to exactly where they need to be.

figs spirit guardians whirling around her like a whole 'nother attack, accruing the biggest kill count of the exam, sticking to the skies on her daymare so nothing gets the drop on her friends or gavin.

riz has got the range and his eyes on all corners of the map, ready to take the shots that make or break all the effort they went to protecting the proctor.

fabian and the hangman danced across the arena, taking out the hydra before it even took a turn, stabbing out the umber hulk's eye, and besting the crab man.

gorgug stays in the same place like the tank he is, defending a one gateway making it so not a single enemy is able to advance past him or his friends, INCLUDING A PURPLE WORM.

and kristen, like a guardian angel, kept up bless the entire exam, saving the rolls of every person multiple times, healing them (cough fabian), and with the shards of her dead god she destroyed an army of skeletons and vanished a manticore whos going to try and better himself. and of course, ally's crazy roleplaying instincts let them catch the insane bit of sabotage.

main takeaway from certain fan reactions to the finale is this:

the final scene with ankarna was so meaningful to the bad kids' arcs and how they made peace with being wronged by people they loved, and if all you can focus on is that the rat grinders didn't get much screentime, then you don't love dimension20 and you don't love this world: you want to be playing your own hs themed dnd campaign and you're mad the oc versions of the rat grinders you made up in your head acted ooc. these are not your characters and this is not their story.
