Flos lets out a quiet chuckle and offers their hand. "I'm happy such a cute girl would like to work here, but I'm afraid the cafe isn't looking to hire right now. I'll be sure to let you know when it is."

if you feel like you're always getting talked over, or if you feel like you're always accidentally interrupting people, you should consider looking into some of the linguistics research about conversation style and turn-taking. lingthusiasm podcast has a great episode called "how to rebalance a lopsided conversation" that goes over some of this research in a really accessible way; Deborah Tannen's book You just don't understand is an early book¹ that's aimed at general audiences on the same topic.
the thing is, when there's conflict in how a conversation flows, often what's going on is a mismatch in norms or expectations -- not that one person is necessarily acting "wrong" and the other person is "right." the mismatches in norms/expectations can and do align with existing power structures in society, but being more aware of them can really help you as an individual trying to navigate them.
you can train your brain for more linguistic awareness! start listening for pauses, intakes of breath, or back-channeling that's meant to support, not interrupt. try it out!
¹ I am linking to the wikipedia page for the book rather than a link to buy the book because it's kind of outdated and the criticism section on the wiki page is pretty reasonable. If you do read this book, be prepared for uhhhh period-typical gender essentialism that, to my knowledge, Tannen has not particularly updated her views on in the intervening time. But it is an influential and important book, just read it skeptically imo

Ingrid smiled even wider than before, feeling so affirmed at Felix's reaction to her hot chocolate spoon idea. Ingrid was by no means a dumb person, but she certainly couldn't say that a lot of people praised her or recognised her for her brain or any good ideas. Ingrid was the type of kind soul that was often overlooked, but standing in the store with Felix, Ingrid felt truly seen. Funnily enough, Felix wasn't the first person in Cardinal Hill to make Ingrid feel that way, which only furthered her belief that she had made the right choice in coming to Cardinal Hill. "You totally get it, yes," she nodded her head, beaming proudly.
"Well you totally are doing okay! At least on an outward level, you're certainly very okay to me." Ingrid could never know what kind of inner turmoil another was facing, but she certainly knew well enough to know that that was a real possibility for Felix to be dealing with. Even so, if that had been the case, they were still a very lovely presence to be around, and Ingrid hoped that they knew that that was something to be proud of, no matter what.
"Are you sure?" Ingrid held a hand over her heart, showing just how touched she was at Felix's offer to buy the treat for Kitty. "Thank you so much, I appreciate that so much," she told them, giving a little chuckle at their comment about meeting royalty. "I've actually been bringing her to work with me - so she's not stuck alone at the inn all day, you know? If you stop by there again I'm sure she'd love to meet you. I'll be sure to tell her exactly who spoiled her today with these treats, so she'll know to thank you," she giggled.

‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Their hands wandered to one of the alfalfa bundles, fingers brushing over the crinkly texture. “Hot chocolate spoon? Trademark it immediately. I’d buy ten. One for every mug I own and one for emergencies.” Their eyes crinkled at the corners as they smiled. “I’m serious, though. Bitter hot chocolate is a tragedy. No one should have to end a cozy drink with disappointment.”
Tumblr media
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Then, as Ingrid gave them that compliment, sincere, sweet, a little silly, Felix blinked, visibly touched. For a second, he didn’t know what to do with the words. He looked down, like maybe the floor would give him the right response. But then he smiled, quiet and warm.
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “That’s really kind of you to say,” he said, his voice a little softer now, still steady but with something tender behind it. “I think my mirror’s been slacking on the job, honestly. Might need to enchant a new one.” He nudged her playfully with his elbow. “One that says, ‘hey, you’re doing okay,’ even on the weird days.”
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ They glanced around the store, then back at her with an easy grin. “This has been really nice, by the way. I didn’t know how much I needed goat talk and artisanal hay until now. Oh, I’ll buy this for Kitty. My treat. Maybe I can come meet her sometime? I really love goats, I would love to meet royalty herself.” He teased, alluding to the other’s comment.

Lucky raised his eyebrows at the other as he told him the story of locking the key in the very room it was meant to open. "How'd you get it back?" He wondered. Lucky himself had locked plenty of sets of keys in houses that he was showing or selling, but there was almost always a convenient open window or unlocked backdoor to save the day - if not a particularly cute locksmith who lived in town. "Well you're not all idiots," he joked, quickly then shaking his head away with the implication that Dimi was an idiot. "For the record, loads of the smartest people are always losing things, or forgetting things. It's like their minds are so focused on things that actually matter, or the things that regular guys like myself will never understand - not even in a million years," he laughed. "I can't say I do it too often, though. I'm not always so observant."
"It's nice to meet you too," he told the other kindly. "You look more like a Dimi to me, even though I actually really like the name Dimitri. My parents both call me Lucky, I think my mom's glad to not call me her ex-husband's name anymore, you know?" He laughed again, casual and jolly as he most often was. Neither of his parents knew the origin of his nickname, but in such a small town, it was easy for them to pick it up too, even after they had named him a different name.
"You're a fan of raisins?" Lucky's eyebrows raised once again in surprise. "I mean, I don't hate them myself, but choc chip cookies are way more of a treat than raisin ones. Absolutely no shame to you, though, I respect it, I'm just coming to the realisation that I might need to rethink my cookie roster for the next open I host," he rambled.
Sitting at the Ceramic Cup, Lucky shook his head at Dimi's question, laughing softly - more quietly now that they were inside an establishment, and not running wild in the streets of Cardinal Hill as they had met on. "It's just one of those names that you get in middle school after a single moment, someone says it once and then it just sticks," he began to try brushing it off. The truth behind his name was a truth that some in Cardinal Hill could remember, but that Lucky never retold. In all honesty, the truth behind his name was rather unlucky, even while himself and his peers hadn't thought that way at the time. "I guess things always turn out for me, though," he cocked his head to the side in thought. "Some things at least. I don't know..." he trailed off in seemingly deep thought. "Some people would definitely say it's ironic," he finally concluded, laughter slightly brighter.
Tumblr media
Dimi felt so much relief when the man showed him the key. "I've really got to keep a better eye on this," he said. "Just the other day I accidentally locked it in the dark room somehow. Not my finest moment." Luckily Elian had helped him out. Laughing at the other's comment, he asked, "Do you return a lot of things to hapless idiots like me?" Luckily he was better at taking care of the more important things in his life, chief among them Ozma. He hadn't lost her except one time at Disney World, and that had only been for five minutes. Of course they'd been the longest five minutes of his life. "Oh come on, I bet you'd have figured it out," Dimi countered. "Plus it seems that you have a knack for finding things."
That was when Dimi noticed the cookies and realized the other was likely headed somewhere, and also now he was wondering where he'd gotten said cookies. Dimi would have to ask. "It's nice to meet you, Lucky," he said, shaking the other man's hand. "The nickname certainly seems apt. My name isn't Dimi actually, it's Dimitri, so I get it. No one calls me that except my parents because, as they say, it's the name they gave me, so they'll use it if they want to." That was just another thing that had furthered the divide between Dimi and his parents over the years, though that chasm had gotten slightly less pronounced once Ozma had been born. They'd proven to be better than expected grandparents.
"Alright, great, and I want to," Dimi replied when Lucky agreed and told him it wasn't necessary. Losing his key had turned out to be fortuitous because Dimi had a hard time meeting people who weren't customers. Eyeing the cookies, Dimi couldn't hide his disappointment completely. "I was actually hoping they were raisins," he said honestly, but then he smiled. "I'll still take one once we get our coffee." The Ceramic Cup was close to where Dimi had lost the key, so it didn't take them long to get there. Once they were in line, Dimi didn't even look at the menu because he knew what he wanted already. Instead he asked, "So why Lucky? Are you actually lucky outside of this particular instance, or is it meant to be ironic?"

I just saw your designs of each child aspect of Doey and I want to request: can you do an interaction between each boy with Angel/Player?
Really glad that you asked!!! :] (you don't know how autistically joyous I was when I see this)
Here are the interactions!
Kevin (aware of the player's presence, but he isn't aggressive)
Tumblr media
Jack (happy to see the player and would invite them to the tea party)
Tumblr media
Matthew (just comfort and would give you life lesson if he can)
Tumblr media
I dunno why I randomly shaded this part though
Tumblr media
It was for ✨dramatic✨
A reminder: you can still request (fandom) in my askbox! Give it a try, don't be shy, I won't bite but I would cry, in joy! :]

Seline grit her teeth. She opened the door to Sigmund's cell, "... Dr. Kyle wants to speak to you. You too, Stevie," she turned to the young man who was sitting just out of sight. [ask-a-guard-dog]
Sigmund reluctantly got up and moved to follow. Albeit he was nervous to see the man again after everything…he was intrigued on what he wanted to say to him.
