Jimmy Dale “J.D.” Herchenhahn entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior whom he so earnestly loved and served Thursday morning May 11, 2023 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center. Some people called him Dr. Herchenhahn, many others knew him as Pastor, but to us he was forever our precious Dad and Papa. His faith has become sight, and we believe he heard a big “Well done, good and faithful servant” when he entered heaven’s gates!

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 54 years, Jean Herchenhahn; his parents, A.B. and Iva Herchenhahn, two brothers, Allen Herchenhahn and Fred Herchenhahn; and five sisters, Lucille Jones, Jean Brunson, Gayle Mattheiss, Dawn Gunderson, and Louise Bates.

Jim loved his family dearly and will be most missed by his three children, Janna (Jeff) Attoe of Hampstead, Jay (Gina) Herchenhahn of Lancaster, SC, and Joy (Brad) Barth of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren Jensen (Ray) Rivera, Jonah Attoe, Jayse Attoe, Kalli Herchenhahn, Kassi Herchenhahn, Khloe Herchenhahn, Caleb Herchenhahn, Cooper Barth, Colton Barth, and Copley Barth; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Halston Rivera; two sisters, Wilma Jones and Judy Ray; many nieces and nephews. Janna, Jay and Joy would like to thank Steve and Joanna Groves, David Groves, and Tom Hayden for faithfully and lovingly caring for our dad. We would also like to acknowledge and thank David  and Cathy Lane, Edna Lancaster, Mark and Nancy Cramer, and Jimmy Sibbett for loving our dad and being the hands and feet of Jesus in dads time of need.

Jimmy Dale was born April 25, 1941 in Macedonia, Mississippi. During his junior year of high school in Pensacola, Florida, he received Christ as his Savior under the ministry of Dr. Dolphus Price.  As a senior, he surrendered to preach the Gospel.  He attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina before serving two years with the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran.

Jim finished his college education at Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was involved in many aspects of college life including playing on the baseball team and serving as student body President. It was there that he met and married his sweetheart. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1968.  He pastored the Fellowship Baptist Church in Trion, Georgia for three and a half years during his tenure at TTC and afterwards. Then in 1970, the Lord called the Herchenhahns to Wilmington to work at Grace Baptist Church—first as Assistant Pastor under Dr. Ray Noland, and then starting in 1971 as Senior Pastor of Grace and President of Wilmington Christian Academy.   

The Lord used Pastor Herchenhahn in a great way during his thirty-six years in leadership of the church and school.  Hundreds of people came to know the Lord under his ministry, and many others grew in their faith.  A number of men and women were called to various areas of “full-time Christian service” under his leadership.  Many missionaries, pastors, teachers, and others are still serving the Lord around the world.

He retired from Grace at the end of December 2006. That freed them up to do some short-term mission work in Guam. After that he began filling pulpits for preachers in and around the Wilmington area. That ministry led them to Riley’s Creek Baptist Church in 2010, where he was called to be their Senior Pastor. He retired from Riley’s Creek in 2021 for the primary purpose of taking care of his beloved wife and soulmate who was declining in health. He wanted to spend as much time with her as he possibly could, and that he did.

Only eternity will reveal the impact of the life and ministry of Pastor J.D. Herchenhahn. He was an exemplary pastor, faithfully preaching the Word and sharing the gospel, as well as humbly serving and caring for people. He often quoted these lines from a poem: “Others, Lord, yes, others, let this my motto be, “help me to live for others, that I may live like Thee.” He certainly reflected Jesus through his life.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church, 1401 North College Road, Wilmington, with a  memorial service honoring Pastor Herchenhahn will be immediately following. Close family friend and co-laborer Rev. Mike Meshaw will officiate along with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Jay Knolls.. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at  Oleander Memorial Gardens. with Rev. Brian Beaver conducting the service.

In lieu of flowers  memorials  may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401. We will be forever grateful for their gentle care and compassion given to our dad.

Marina dropped off the face of the earth but this won’t stop me from serving you fashion! Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit one of her most amazing editorial shoots. In February of 2019, Marina was photographed by Leeor Wild for Refinery29.

Styling by Haley Loewenthal, makeup by Alana Wright, and hair by Jenni Iva Wimmersted, respectively.

For the first look, our girl sported a full Sies Marjan Spring/Summer 2019 look which includes the Tommie lilac wool blazer with peak lapels and apron detail which fully wraps around the waist, and the Sula croc-embossed dusty magenta plastic layered skirt.

She layered it with one of the Acne Studios Spring/Summer 2019 Kana ribbed cotton mock neck tops in white.

You’ll find a lot of sculpturesque jewelry spread throughough this editorial. Mounser is a brand that definitely fits the bill with their Spring/Summer 2019 orbit-inspired earring and Corkscrew earring featuring cubic zirconia crystals.

For the second look, Marina poses in a coral-colored plissé bat sleeve top from the Spring/Summer 2019 presentation of Zero + Maria Cornejo. 

She paired it with an off-white apron-style skirt featuring a panel full of iridescent paillettes from Italian emerging designer label DROMe’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

These interesting silver drop earrings with molten effect hail from the aforementioned Mounser jewelry collection.

Lots of low heels for this shoot! These Naima colorblocked PVC pumps in "Sun Fluorescent" are signed by Maryam Nassir Zadeh.

Iconic designer Marc Jacobs proposed polka dots, ruffles and other epic silhouettes for his Spring/Summer 2019 collection. Here, M wore the flocked-dot dimensional off-the-shoulder blouse in apple-green & white with a pair of high-waisted ivory wool pants featuring contrast black stripes along the sides.

The Welsh beauty completed her look with a pair of Annie Costello Brown's Circle Scroll gold statement hoop earrings. She also wears a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels that we cannot see.

For the penultimate look, Marina wore a full look from DROMe’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection which included a fuchsia patent leather belted jacket and matching shorts.

Another pair of Annie Costello Brown earrings and these GRAY MATTERS leather mules in white with an egg-shaped lucite heel pulled the look together. How fun!

For her last look, Marina sported a full ensemble from the Camilla and Marc Spring/Summer 2019 lookbook. It comprised the Juliana blue pleated midi dress and a mustard-colored version of one of the ribbed turtenecks.

Layered underneath her dress is Rejina Pyo's Spring/Summer 2019 Sophie cyan organza blazer with notched lapel and large golden buttons.

Sculpturesque silhouettes return with these Monica Sordo x Nausheen Shah white acrylic-coated shoulder duster earrings with gold-plated brass elements. Beyoncé is a fan of these as well!

Last but definitely not least, M finished her ensemble with a pair of Tibi's "Marcus" perforated leather tie ankle mules.

U mts dvorani 22. aprila održaće se festival zabavne muzike „Beogradsko proleće“ na kome će biti izvedeno 18 novih kompozicija - najavljeno je danas na konferenciji za novinare u Baru Lisabon. Predstavnicima medija obratili su se Maja Rakovic, vlasnica i glavni i odgovorni urednik Naksi radija i predsednica festivalskog žirija, Ivan Ilić, muzički urednik festivala i predsednik Udruženja muzičara džeza, zabavne i rok muzike Srbije i Branko Klanšček, umetnički direktor festivala „Beogradsko proleće“. Svi oni su podsetili šta je taj festival nekada značio, kao i da je prošle godine napravljen prvi uspešan korak u njegovoj obnovi. Podsećamo da je lane pobedu odneo Toni Cetinski sa pesmom „Čuvam ljubav“ koja je postala regionalni hit. I ove godine Beogradsko proleće imaće regionalni karakter, a od oko 300 kompozicija pristiglih na konkurs selekciona komisija odabrala je 18. The “Ideal” City

Utopia is the representation of an ideal city that we, as architects, want to achieve. Bjarke Ingels said, “utopia is a literary invention of a place so perfect that it can’t exist in reality. But that’s exactly what we should be striving towards.” We ask ourselves what kind of city we see ourselves in the future or future generations to live in?  The desirable city feels good to be in, looks good, smells nice, and is a city where we feel safe. We also need to create a city where we balance human needs with the needs of our planet. The ingredients to achieve the ideal city would be a mixed-use transient-oriented development,  reinventing transportation, and designing an environmentally sustainable city.

As architects, our group believes that an “ideal” city is one that is systematically organized while allowing flexibility for growth, provides green spaces, and accommodates pedestrians to have ease of access. This would mean that its inhabitants would be able to traverse the city without difficulty. Providing adequate sidewalks, crosswalks, and safe bike lanes; shifting the city’s focus from cars to people. Spaces for public gatherings would be integrated within the city, including green spaces. These spaces would provide flora and fauna that can help improve air quality, regulate climate temperatures, and reduce the stress of its inhabitants by having a connection with nature. The city layout should be organized in a way that provides some flexibility for future construction. Making these architectural additions to be less intrusive as the population increases over time.

Existing examples that portray some of these characteristics are the cities of Copenhagen and Chicago. Copenhagen has invested in a network of protected cycling lanes throughout the entirety of the city. The cycling lanes allow for pedestrians to travel within the city with ease. Copenhagen has also dedicated an effort to reduce traffic by restricting automobile use in some of the city’s inner streets. A woonerf, or a complete street, is one model that is used. This type of street allows for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers to equally use the street with no curbs to direct a certain flow.

Chicago is pedestrian friendly and has a network of cycling lanes, although not as complete as Copenhagen. The greatest characteristic of Chicago though is its public spaces. The city has turned its lakeshore into 3,130 acres of parkland with beaches, harbors, and natural spaces for its residents and visitors. It is also home to three independent parks: the Lincoln, Grant, and Jackson Parks. All these spaces are easily accessible through the network of cycling lanes and public transit made available in the city.

1. Mixed-use Transient-Oriented Development

As some cities face higher population density, there will be a need to create an urban hub with localized communities. Urban hubs include mixed-used buildings. In the ideal city, everyone can meet their daily needs within a short walk or bike ride. Design a city where everything is accessible within a 15-minute walk of citizens' homes, such as going to their job, groceries, shopping, education, pharmacies, entertainment, and health care. A mixed development cuts the need for extended travel because they would live close to work. Mixed-use buildings have residential, office buildings, restaurants, shops, and commercial—high-rise buildings with residential on top-level, retail on the ground floor, and parking garage underground. By reducing the need for vehicle travel, mixed-use development brings the community together. There is more social interaction through public spaces, plazas, parks, and green spaces.

An example of mixed-use transient-oriented development is Mission Meridian Village in South Pasadena, California. Mission Meridian Village is near a light rail station that allows people to commute by train to their jobs. Mission meridian consists of sixty-seven condominiums and 5 000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. This site is a mixed-use environment and brings more jobs to the area.

2. Reinventing Transportation

As the cities become denser and have increasingly crowded vehicle traffic, we have to design a new way of mobility through the city. Denser transportation is bad for our planet because of air pollution. The best way to reduce carbon emissions throughout a community is to encourage citizens to walk or use their bikes to go to work. Designing walking and bike-friendly infrastructure include pedestrian bridges and walkways, bike path networks, and connected urban grids. Designing urban landscaping such as parks, nature preserves, and recreation areas get people out of cars. The best example is Copenhagen, Denmark, known as the city of the people. Copenhagen’s city design prioritizes the network of bicycles lanes and pedestrian streets. They began in 1962, where they converted a long main street into a pedestrian street. The city was transformed from a place full of cars to a much friendlier place full of people where people gather, talk and enjoy city life.

3. Environment Sustainability

Environment sustainability uses design strategies that reduce humanity's impact on the environment by implementing new design strategies to make the city greener, clean the air quality, solar panel generation, waste management, water filtration, and rain collection. The city needs more urban green spaces such as parks, greenways, trails, and street trees. A great example of a green city is Singapore. Singapore is called the ‘city in a Garden’ for having abundant green space and eco-friendly environments.  According to the environmental performance index, a sustainability study developed by Yale University and the United Nations, which measures countries based on their environmental health and ecosystem vitality, Singapore ranks 14th internationally.

One of Singapore’s most eco-friendly designs is the supertree Grove and is the garden's main attraction. The vertical garden has advanced water filtration technology and integrates solar power generation and rainwater collection into its design.

Singapore has many green buildings, such as Tree House condo. The Tree House condo possesses a vertical garden that covers nearly 25,000 square feet. The building also includes a rainwater harvesting program and waterfalls to provide a natural cooling system.

Born into a strict family and the only child, Lili’s life was miserable and the only thing she did was follow the rules set for her. It only got worse when her mother who had a miserable marriage of her own left her father when she was 17. She couldn’t even blame the woman for leaving her. After high school, she went to study medicine in Chicago with her cousin Esme, but her father saw that as giving her too much freedom, so then moved to Wakefield to get married at 23 to a man of her father’s choosing who treated her terribly. She completed her studies in Charleston and began to work there. When she was 26, her father died from heart failure which led to her being truly free for the first time in her life and she filed for a divorce immediately and quit her job. Her ex-husband as well as father’s brother tried to take control of her life and her father’s wealth but she didn’t let it happen, instead getting a lawyer to kick them out of her life and choosing to live life to the fullest now that she had the freedom to be.

Milano, 13 febbraio 2020 - Parte la seconda stagione del Trofeo Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance, il modo più facile e divertente per assaporare il lato sportivo del marchio Moto Guzzi.

In preparazione dell’edizione 2020, che scatterà il prossimo 26 aprile a Varano, Moto Guzzi metterà a disposizione alcune Moto Guzzi V7 III già allestite con il Kit Trofeo a tutti i motociclisti che vorranno provarle in pista nei fine settimana di sabato 29 febbraio e domenica 1 marzo e di sabato 4 e domenica 5 aprile, sul Circuito Internazionale d’Abruzzo, a Ortona (Chieti).

È un’opportunità unica per tutti gli appassionati interessati a partecipare al Trofeo Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance 2020, che potranno così verificare di persona quanto la V7 III Trofeo sia una vera moto da corsa, capace al contempo di mettere a proprio agio i meno esperti e di risultare divertente anche per i più smaliziati.

Per prenotare il proprio turno in sella a una V7 III equipaggiata con il Kit Trofeo è sufficiente rivolgersi al Circuito Internazionale d’Abruzzo al numero 085-9032328 oppure all’indirizzo e-mail info@circuitointernazionaledabruzzo.it. I turni, della durata di 15 minuti, sono proposti al prezzo di 15 Euro e sono disponibili in numero limitato.

A Ortona saranno due fine settimana all’insegna della passione per il marchio dell’Aquila anche fuori dalla pista: i modelli della gamma Moto Guzzi saranno infatti a disposizione per un test ride che si snoderà sulle più belle strade dei dintorni, con partenza dal paddock del circuito.

PREZZO SPECIALE SULLA MOTO GUZZI V7 III STONE PER CHI SI ISCRIVE AL TROFEO

La prima edizione 2019 del monomarca dell’Aquila - dedicato a equipaggi di due piloti in sella alle Moto Guzzi V7 III - ha riscosso un enorme successo grazie a una formula accessibile e coinvolgente. Gran parte del merito va dato alla “sette e mezzo” di Mandello che, allestita con il Kit Racing GCorse e con gomme Pirelli, si è rivelata insospettabilmente veloce e estremamente affidabile, ma soprattutto facile, intuitiva e sfruttabile in pista anche da chi non vanta un’esperienza nelle competizioni.

Proseguendo nell’intento di rendere il campionato accessibile a una platea sempre più ampia di motociclisti, Moto Guzzi praticherà uno speciale sconto sull’acquisto di una nuova Moto Guzzi V7 III Stone a tutti i team che effettueranno l’iscrizione all’edizione 2020 del Trofeo. Chi prenderà parte all’intero campionato potrà infatti acquistarla al prezzo speciale di 7.320 Euro, per un vantaggio cliente pari a 800 Euro.

Le iscrizioni all’intero campionato rimarranno aperte fino al 10 aprile, al costo agevolato di 1250 Euro a Team (equivalenti perciò a 125 Euro a pilota per ogni gara). In alternativa, è possibile iscriversi ai singoli appuntamenti, fino a due settimane prima della gara, al costo di 350 Euro a Team.

TROFEO 2020: ANCORA PIÙ DIVERTIMENTO CON LE “MINIENDURANCE” ALLUNGATE A 90 MINUTI E LO SPETTACOLO DELLA GARA IN NOTTURNA

L’edizione 2020 del Trofeo Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance ha in serbo significative novità, mirate a garantire ancora più equilibrio e divertimento a tutti i partecipanti. Innanzitutto, le gare “miniendurance” saranno più lunghe, con la durata che passa da 60 a 90 minuti. In questo modo tutti i piloti avranno a disposizione più tempo per divertirsi in sella e le corse saranno ancora più movimentate, dato che il numero minimo di cambi pilota in pit lane - con turni di guida che rimangono di 15 minuti - salirà da 3 a 5. Saranno perciò premiate ancora di più la costanza di rendimento e l’affiatamento tra i due piloti, in linea con quella che è la maniera “guzzista” di intendere le corse, dando cioè priorità all’amicizia e allo spirito di squadra.

Nell’ultima gara del 2019 a Misano hanno preso il via 25 moto per 50 piloti, uno spettacolo indimenticabile che ha sancito il successo della prima edizione del Trofeo Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance, una proposta assolutamente unica e originale nel panorama del motociclismo sportivo nazionale grazie al format delle gare “miniendurance” con equipaggio di due piloti. Ma è stata tra le caratteristiche vincenti anche la scenografica e adrenalinica partenza delle gare in stile “Le Mans”, con le moto allineate su un lato della pista e i piloti che allo start attraversano di corsa il nastro d’asfalto per salire in sella e partire. Sono gesti che sembravano ormai soltanto un ricordo legato alle leggendarie corse endurance del passato, e che invece il Trofeo Moto Guzzi sta facendo rivivere ad appassionati che sono sempre più numerosi.

Nel 2020 chi parteciperà al monomarca potrà assaporare un’altra forte emozione solitamente riservata a pochissimi fortunati piloti: correre di notte. La gara in programma a settembre sul circuito di Adria si disputerà infatti in notturna il sabato sera, con la luce dei riflettori - e dei fari delle V7 III, montati soltanto in questa particolare occasione - a illuminare la pista.

Invariato il numero degli appuntamenti, che sono cinque: si parte da Varano il 26 aprile per proseguire poi sulle piste di Vallelunga (24 maggio), Magione (21 giugno), Adria (5 settembre, gara in notturna) e Misano (11 ottobre).

KIT RACING SVILUPPATO DAI GUARESCHI ULTERIORMENTE MIGLIORATO

La Moto Guzzi V7 III, moto capace di raccogliere l’apprezzamento di un pubblico estremamente eterogeneo grazie alla sua maneggevolezza e facilità di guida, sarà nuovamente la protagonista del Trofeo, rappresentando la perfetta base di partenza per realizzare una moto facile, divertente e sfruttabile in pista anche da chi non vanta un’esperienza nelle competizioni.

Equipaggiata con il Kit Racing GCorse sviluppato dai fratelli Guareschi, apprezzati preparatori Moto Guzzi anche in ambito sportivo, la “sette e mezzo” di Mandello si è rivelata insospettabilmente veloce ed estremamente affidabile su tutti i circuiti dove si è corso nel 2019. Oltre a dispositivi di sicurezza tra cui ad esempio sottocoppa e protezione della leva del freno anteriore, il Kit - obbligatorio e ovviamente uguale per tutti - comprende un pacchetto di modifiche funzionali ed estetiche. Tra queste il cupolino, semi manubri, impianto di scarico completo, pedane rialzate, fianchetti laterali, sella monoposto e parafango posteriore, tabelle porta numero, kit cartucce sospensioni anteriori e ammortizzatori posteriori. Completano l’equipaggiamento una specifica mappatura della centralina motore e pastiglie freno anteriori dedicate.

Gli unici aggiornamenti per il 2020, sviluppati sulla base dell’esperienza raccolta nella prima edizione, riguardano l’impianto frenante, con l’adozione di un disco freno anteriore maggiorato in grado di sopportare più agevolmente le sollecitazioni, considerata anche la maggior durata delle gare. A ciò si aggiungono ovviamente anche i particolari necessari per affrontare la spettacolare gara in notturna, nella fattispecie un cupolino con l’alloggiamento per il faro e una luce posteriore supplementare.

Il costo del kit completo, acquistabile rivolgendosi alla concessionaria Guareschi Moto, è pari a 3.840 Euro (più IVA). L’installazione del kit può essere eseguita in autonomia oppure gestita direttamente da Guareschi Moto. Per poter prendere parte all’edizione 2020, i Team già in possesso del Kit 2019 (o di una Moto Guzzi V7 III già allestita in configurazione Trofeo 2019) potranno acquistare soltanto i componenti aggiuntivi inclusi nel “Kit aggiornamento 2020”, disponibile al prezzo di 465 Euro (più IVA).

UN FORMAT DI GARA PENSATO PER TUTTI, L’ATMOSFERA DELLE CORSE PIÙ CLASSICHE IN UN AMBITO GIOVANE E DI GRANDE COINVOLGIMENTO

In pieno stile “guzzista”, il format dei weekend di gara del Trofeo Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance vede l’inserimento del confronto agonistico in un’atmosfera di grande coinvolgimento. Un fine settimana da vivere coltivando i sentimenti di amicizia e condivisione, che da sempre caratterizzano lo sport più sano e ne rappresentano il significato più profondo. Il format di gara e la scelta della V7 III rendono il Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance perfetto per il divertimento di tutti, dal neofita della pista all’appassionato più smaliziato.

Ogni fine settimana di gara prevede al sabato due turni di prove cronometrate, entrambi della durata di 20 minuti per ciascun pilota. La media dei migliori rilievi cronometrici ottenuti dai due piloti dell’equipaggio determinerà la posizione di partenza di ciascun team nello schieramento della gara della domenica (sabato sera, per l’appuntamento di Adria). Un evidente richiamo alle leggendarie corse endurance di un tempo risiede proprio nella partenza della gara, che avverrà in stile “Le Mans”, ovvero con le moto allineate su un lato della pista e i piloti che allo start attraversano di corsa il nastro d’asfalto per salire in sella e partire.

In corsa, ciascun pilota non potrà guidare per più di 15 minuti (più 5 minuti di tempo per rientrare ai box dall’esposizione dell’apposito cartello “cambio”): ciò significa che la gara - della durata di 90 minuti - sarà movimentata da almeno cinque cambi pilota, che avvengono nella corsia box. Il rifornimento non è consentito. Al termine della gara verranno assegnati punteggi ai primi 15 team classificati.
