Could you possible do a tutorial on how you do your anatomy? it's absolutely gorgeous and I'd love to learn!

& I'm not good at explaining myself but I'll try my best. Using a recent portrait as an example, I always start with a reference/picture I'm basing my drawing off of. You can start by blocking out the shapes of the face with a sketch to start but most of the time I'll start with a silhouette. I like to go from dark to light, layering them on top of each other to give shape. In the beginning I kinda rush to get the colors down so I can move on to defining the face and adding better shadows and highlights. I'm also constantly checking my reference to make sure I'm putting the correct values in the right places.

Since I'm not a professional and definitely not a teacher, I'm gonna link two artists who I think are great at breaking down anatomy and portraiture

Bringing out a funny question for the asks that I know already exists in some form. What is the worst thing Balthazar does in their story?

God. What a question when he’s done So Much Shit that the one big list I have isn’t even comprehensive. I think in terms of scale of impact it might be blowing off Jamandi’s summons for the sake of personal relationship drama. That’s not a very interesting or funny answer but also HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE DIED. And it truly does come from such a lack of concern for the lives of others- he’s not particularly fond of Jamandi and feels she demands more than she returns, so in his eyes her life and the lives of every other person on that plain just don’t matter very much. In a petty way, he’d like for her to suffer crippling losses and get off his back. The faceless masses of Rostland who absorb the brunt of that are just numbers to him. And more importantly, how could Jamandi and the threat that is currently firmly a Her Problem be considered in the same breath as Tristian at all?

In terms of smaller scale things… being pretty willing to help Jaethal do Basically Anything isn’t really great when that culminates in super murdering Nortellara, and also having endorsed her holding that unlucky Nortellara look alike against her will all fucking game prior. That’s not awesome. That doesn’t speak well of someone. I know that on my romance run there was a feeble last minute “wait maybe we shouldn’t murder your daughter for…. reasons” that she rejected (still a funny move of hers) but that’s not canon to me. The canon of my heart is very much Balthazar having been All In on killing Nortellara and being upset that Jaethal might be willing to consider backing down because he was at the time trying very hard not to think about if maybe he had an important relationship of his own to mend. Murder your daughter so I don’t have to think about the consequences of my own actions Jaethal :/

Geralt/Triss or Eskel/Triss?

If I have to chose between those two and ONLY those two, then I definitely go with Eskel/Triss. I feel like Triss & Geralt's relationship, both from the books and the games, has SO many issues that it's rather toxic. I don't hate it, I just think they can do better.

That being said, my actual preferred pairings?

Yennefer/Triss:

Completely fan-based, I know, but I feel they meet on a more even level, have comparable life experience, understandings etc. I think they are better for each other and make each other better, than most of the alternatives.

Geralt/Jaskier:

I mean, it's really Geralt and ANYBODY else BUT Triss or Yen but I understand why him and Jaskier are such a popular pair. Again, they make each other better, for the most part.

I also like Geralt/Eskel and Geralt/Regis however, if I had to pick faves?

Eskel/Regis:

Bloody absolute rare-pair and I don't get it. Lots of people adore Geralt & Regis together (which I get) but I think Eskel would be an even better match. The love of books and philosophy, animals and simple pleasures. And we KNOW Eskel would not have the slightest issue with Regis' species affiliation. Big, brawny Eskel would LOVE someone who can take and give back like a Higher Vampire. Feral Eskel getting all protective and Regis finding it adorable because he REALLY doesn't need it. They would be so sweet together.

Lambert/?:

But what about the youngest, surliest wolf? I mean, any combo of Lambert/Aiden/Voltehre/Milena, I just eat that shit right up. Absolute GIVE ME MORE and I will be happy. (Big thank you to @inexplicifics for creating so much of this and inventing Milena. Big happy spot in my heart!!)

Johnny 9, 17 and 28

JOHNNY THE MISTAKE FROM GOD who i havent looked at for years . i haven't thought about him for so long i wonder how he's doing, i actually cant imagine what he would be doing right now. he's like my age. maybe he went to study like. car mechanics in trade school. yeah that fits him. i still think he has like no friends irl beside Ivar. Ivar also has no friends bc he's autistic. Ivar probably didn't even go to uni he just went to work at a factory. like Wendre or some shit. he and Johnny both went to Koidula. or whatever the name for that school would be in the universe. bc Gabriels siblings go there !!!!!! THEY'RE OUR AGE or they're still stuck in that fuckass town till this day. lmao. They both hate how much that city keeps changing every summer now.

I'll answer for both Ivar and Johnny bc they're like a package deal yk. Kinda like us but so much worse bc they actually don't talk to other people and they have like 5 million more issues than we do. Johnny would try to get girls from like tinder but he doesn't click with any of them. Ivar simply doesn't care for dating??? There's no point in it for him. Johnny wants something out of life but he doesn't know what. He's just lost and fixing peoples cars now i guess. he rents an apartment. Ivar still lives with his parents. theyre ok w it :) they rather him gather money for an apartment instead of renting.

9. favorite food? least favorite? are they a picky eater? do they have any dietary restrictions? if he could he would only eat noodles for the rest of his life. so that's his favourite. i think he would HATE any vegan meals. it's not a real meal to him if there's no meat in it. i think he is very much a picky eater. anything that looks off by like 1mm he will not touch. generally distrustful toward food. hence why he probably starved in middle school bc that canteen was NOT serving good food let me tell you

Ivar probably has ARFID so he has some safe foods and that's about it. Maybe potatoes. In any form. He doesn't care much for meat. He doesn't like the taste. He's just not a fan of food to begin with. Most food disgusts him. He loves gummy candies tho.

17. how did they spend their summers/free time as a child? alone. at Ivar's place. either outside or playing video games on the computer. His only friend was Ivar so yeah. Ivar mostly was inside or doing like odd jobs in the summer. Johnny I guess is the same. He wants money. I don't know what jobs kids work during summer I literally only worked once and it was at a hotel to get money for a cd player T_T

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

Johnny just talks to you. If he likes you he talks to you. He will bring you random gifts. like Rocks or some shit. Sth reminds him of you and he brings it to you. Well, to Ivar. He doesn't like anyone else. If he tells you anything slightly personal he cares about you. He does have some online friends and he just sends them memes and plays games with them. He's cares deeply but he just sucks at showing it. He would yell at people who were mean or weird to Ivar in school bc of his autism. He will stand up for you if he really likes you. Honestly I feel like he's also neurodivergent but like on the other end of the spectrum. Thats why they click so good i guess. LMAO. If Johnny doesn't like someone he's incredibly snappy toward that person. He will ignore them but just being in their vicinity will drive him up the wall so anything they say can result in him telling them to shut up. His temper is SO short its unreal.

Ivar is very shut off in general so what he thinks of people will always be a mystery to many. he will i guess jut ignore you if he doesnt like you?????? kind of off topic but i think like. doing group projects w him would be pretty good because he WILL do his part quickly, he just doesn't want to talk too much, so if you give him exactly what he has to do he will. Anyway. He will send his friends pics he takes. And memes. ofc. :)

Ithink Johnny and Lauri (Gabriels brother) fucking hate each other for no aparent reason i just think its funny. Lauri also thinks Ivar is fucking weird. Oh theres the reason lmao he was mean to Ivar once. Laura (Gabriels younger sister) tries to get close to Ivar but hes soooo not interested. they do become deskmates in some classes i think. She would be nice to him :)

For the wip thing, the scar that I don't see anymore?

(starting to think i should have listed all of those as one story whoops)

this is in the same series as I Would Swallow the Sun (which i talked about here and here) and is from the perspective of Ivar. Ivar is the youngest of Ragnar's sons and by far the most erratic and dysfunctional. he was born with an unspecified bone disorder which makes walking unaided impossible and has left him alienated and in pain his entire life. his family's preexisting dysfunction and complete inability to handle his disability worsened his mental state and made him into a conniving and deeply insecure adult who has a tendency to demand love from everyone around him and destroy them when he doesn't get it.

Ivar and Hvitserk have the most complex relationship out of all the brothers imo, and it's no different in this au. after Hvitserk's exile from the family Ivar is the only one who has contact with him, though inconsistently. ivar does love his brother and hates the path he's gone down. when he's made aware of the 'secret' he is the most fiercely protective over Hvitserk and is quick to lash out at the other's over their treatment over him. however, Ivar himself is guilty of some of the worst crimes against Hvitserk, which is something he has to contend with and heal from throughout the story.

(he is by far the most difficult brother for me to write, as evidenced by the fact that his portion is made primarily of snippets of conversations rather than full vignette. i tell myself it's minimalism lol)

He’s difficult. He knows that.

Ivar looks down at his phone notifying him of another missed call from Ubbe. Another carefully mild voicemail about needing to talk.

It takes three days for him to lose his patience.

“Goddammit Ivar, pick up your fucking phone!”

Ivar smiles at the crackling sound of Ubbe’s fussing. He’d never admit but sometimes he misses being a child if only for the more ample chances to irritate his eldest brother.

He finally decides to answer one evening once he’s returned to his apartment after the gym, hands still smelling of his archery gloves’ worn leather. He sets his legs on the coffee table and picks under his nails as the phone rings, amused by how it only takes a few seconds before Ubbe answers.

“Hello Ub-”

“Why the fuck don’t you answer your phone?”

“I’ve a lot on my plate, Ubbe. I figured you could understand that.”

He can practically see Ubbe rolling his eyes.

“Why didn’t you just text me?”

“Because I need to talk to you.”

Ivar feels his eyebrows jump in mock surprise, a little disappointed his brother isn’t there to see it.

“Am I in trouble, Ubbe?”

“No, you’re not- why does- No.”

People whispered about him. They still do. It isn’t a secret. Not that he wouldn’t notice even if it was.

They whispered about Hvitserk too. Eventually. And in the howling isolation of his youth it almost felt like communion.

“I still hear you, crying.”

Ivar turned, eyeing his strung out brother as he laid curled up on his leather sofa.

“In the middle of the night. It wakes me up.”

He felt himself bristle, suddenly overcome with agitation.

“I don’t do that anymore.”

Hvitserk smirked, eyes closed.

“Then who’s been waking me up?”

“You know you can’t keep a secret from her.”

Ivar whips around and glares.

“You can’t keep a secret. The rest of us are perfectly capable.”

oooo I'll talk about what Samson and his spouses would do for Valentine's Day !

I have a feeling Samson is 100% the type to plan something extravagant (He never half asses anything, and that includes displays of affection) So he takes them all to a romantic getaway to a beach house. (beaches in their city are kind of a distance from the rest of the city, so most trips there are always a big deal™)

I don't think they have any specific traditions from there ? They all kind of like to do different activities so there's a chance for both time alone and time together.

Samson probably does something unique for each of them. A music festival for Ivar, a hike with Circe, something indoors for Nora.

Oh gods this is an extremely tough question but also a very good one, thanks anon 💕✨ Let's see, I am assuming we are following the canon timeline, so if they switched I am also assuming it is Sigurd who killed Ivar? Or Ivar just died? Before I dive into a cheap analysis, I only want to say that I do like Sigurd's character, I don't think he was flashed out quite enough in the series but I learned to give him a more defined personality in my headcanons so, I'm gonna answer based on this. And let's start from Sigurd himself. If he had been the one who killed Ivar, then I do imagine that he would feel extremely guilty for the rest of his life. Yes, they hated each other. And yes, they made each other life very difficult, with Sigurd always appearing so particularly prickly against his younger sibling. But in the end, if something so extreme happened by his own hand, I do think Sigurd would be desperate. He would never show his pain. He is too proud. So his pain would mutate, over time, in something like a self-destruction path or a similar internalisation and denial. But if Ivar just died not by his hand, I don't feel Sigurd would care too much. He would just take his death with a shrug. "Such is life." He would say, or "It was his fate." and I imagine he would even be jealous because Ivar had the chance to reach for Valhalla before him. Now, another who wouldn't care regardless would be Bjorn. I never pictured Bjorn as a very affectionate guy, may that be with women, family or brothers. The only exceptions may be his mother and Halfdan - MAYBE. So, he wouldn't care much. He too would just shrug it off, probably easily forget about it.

Ubbe and Hvitserk would care much more. I think both would be broken by pain. Ubbe would take it better, but he would probably still try to understand what happened and, in case of a wrong death, he would look for vengeance or some form of justice. (In case Ivar died by Sigurd's hand, probably he wouldn't be too harsh though). Hvitserk would just be devastated. I am talking the whole spiralling on the edge, like he did in S6a. He would look for justice period. (In case Ivar died because of Sigurd, he would never forgive his brother, I don't think.) Ubbe would eventually recover, but I don't think Hvitserk would ever stop missing Ivar. It is also the reason why I imagine he would carry a token that reminds him of his brother for the rest of his life and he would probably still look for his advice, talking to the wind or to the dark corners of his room. (I know, this is my extremely personal opinion because I adore Hvitserk and Ivar and I consider them the opposite face of the same coin.) I have this sweet image in my head of them cheering to the Gods and to Ivar, honouring his place in Valhalla and knowing they would have seen each other again, eventually.

I intended to follow Ivar's journey to find Floki, because I think he should've had the meeting that Ubbe got in the show. Both Ivar and Floki had a strong bond and it would've made me happy to see them reunite.

So, that's the sequel I want to write some day in the future. Just Ivar and that very loyal-to-Ubbe dude called Henrick (my OMC) and a few other men and shieldmaiden on a little adventure, possibly killing Kjetill because I love killing that crazy mf. And who could do it better than Ivar? Come on xD

Ivar is an all purpose assistant for a lot of the other staff members. being one of the only beefhouses in a world full of sweaty twiggy nerds means you're the one who gets to lug the Mad Science Equipment. He has his special interests though, maybe someday he'll get to work on em.

Opera is an all-purpose test subject! A wayward experiment gave her functional immortality but literally no other benefits. Every day Esme finds some new way to murder her in order to test the Facilities bioweapons/etc, and every day she thinks "It's a living!"
