Jackie had personally made not one, but two batches of frosted Christmas cut-out cookies for her family this year.

Although the first sheet came out a little burnt while she figured out the oven settings, and some of the bells, angels, and Christmas trees were a little misshapen, it would be a much better holiday memory for her kids than what she'd gotten. Which was hard, days-old, store bought cookies - her mother's favorite, of course. They were always some cinnamon-flavor that Jackie couldn't stand.

She wasn't quite up to Kitty Forman-caliber yet, she thought to herself as she puttered through the kitchen in her bathrobe. But she was a much better mom than hers ever was, and that was what mattered to her. It was Christmas Eve, late, and she was getting everything ready underneath the tree before the early morning wake-up they were sure to expect from the kids tomorrow morning.

The last step was leaving out some milk and cookies for 'Santa' - wink, wink. The kids would wake in the morning and see that he'd read their note, and taken a few bites.

But as she went to lift the cookie box, it felt suspiciously light. Jackie frowned, and removed the lid. She gasped. It was empty! Only a few crumbles rolled around the bottom, uselessly.

She jammed the lid back on and crossed her arms as she stalked back across the kitchen, furious. Her family had eaten through two entire batches of cookies in just under three days? How many of those cookies had she eaten? Maybe two. And now there were none left, on Christmas Eve, for this magical freakin' memory.

Suddenly, there was a noise. The sound of small, shuffling feet on the hardwood floor. Jackie ducked behind the kitchen cabinets - and then covered her mouth to stifle her giggle. Here was the cookie-thief, now.

6-year-old Jay padded into the kitchen. He was wearing his footie pajamas and dragging his one-eyed stuffed pig in his hands.

Jackie watched as he carefully pushed one of the kitchen chairs up to the ledge of the counter and climbed up - casually, like he'd done this every night. He lifted off the lid to the cookie jar, and was similarly disappointed. That's when Jackie decided to make her presence known.

"Jayson David Kelso," she lifted her voice, making it ring across the kitchen. She was trying to sound authoritative, but was still trying not to giggle at the same time.

Jay whirled around, stunned he was caught. When he saw his mother, he quickly grinned and turned on his charm. They both knew it was her achilles heel.

"Daddy ate all the cookies," he'd mustered up his most angelic expression, and batted his eyes at her (the way she'd taught him).

"It was Daddy, huh?"

Jay nodded innocently.

"Well, now we don't have any cookies to leave for Santa." Jackie crossed the room towards her son again. She lifted her eyebrow at him, hoping to make him feel guilty. "What if he skips our house?"

"My super soaker 3800!" Jay groaned immediately. "No!"

Jackie nodded smugly. Jay thought for a moment, and then cocked his head to the side.

"Can't we leave him something else?"

"Like what?"

He shrugged. "A slice of the meatloaf from last night?"

Jackie stared at him, unblinking. "A Christmas meatloaf?" She finally devolved into giggles at the earnest look on her son's face. "Okay honey," she shrugged. "Go put the meatloaf under the tree."

Man in rowboat catching a serpent has been attributed to JFK and is simply signed "KENNEDY" on the bottom right.

Other two paintings of a blonde person and a horse jockey were done by Jackie, the latter being signed with her name on the bottom right.

Found Family Newt Headcannon: (Crank Palace)

•Dante and Newt often fall asleep on the couch, the boy sleeping on his chest

•Once Newt moved in fully Dante clung to him almost as much as he did with his mom, talking more around him

•The first time Dante drew a picture for Newt he cried because it said ‘brother’ above his head

•Keshia makes French toast for her boys when they’re sick

•Jackie didn’t like Newt at first, claiming that he was stealing Dante from her but once she found him crying in his room and she hugged him, realizing he was human too and they got closer

•The two kids are obsessed with Newt and when Izzy comes over to visit she gets attacked with affection

•Izzy taught Jackie how to braid hair

•Izzy and Jackie braid Newt’s hair and he usually keeps them in for a week

•Dante likes flowers and when just the two of them go on walks, him and Newt make small bouquets of flowers that they find for Keisha (she keeps them in vases around the kitchen)

•When Newt got sick it was like he was on his deathbed for the family, even though it was just the flue. Dante and Jackie would stay beside him, feeding him and drawing lots of pictures, even falling asleep with him. Keisha made his favorite foods and checked on him hourly, taking three days off work for him

•There’s a picture of all of them (including Izzy) hanging on the entry wall, Newt has a copy in his wallet

•The two kids constantly fight over who gets Newt while he reads them their bedtime story

•Keshia often wakes up to breakfast in bed on her days off, a tray full of warm food and a little bundle of flowers with a picture under her plate.

•The three of them teamed up and convinced Keshia to get them a cat (his name is Dodger)

•Keshia cried the first few times Newt slipped up and called her mom

•Izzy has multiple pictures of the four of them and the cat asleep together on the couch, all cuddling happily

•Dante thinks Thomas is amazing and clings to the boy when he comes over, and despite knowing very little about kids, he always makes room to give the little boy attention

•Thomas has a small teddy bear in his school bag that Dante and Newt picked out for him

•Keshia has a necklace of shells that Newt made her, she wears it everyday

•Newt will sit and cradle ether one of the kids if they get hurt and start crying, rocking them in his lap until they settle

•Keshia has a wedding Pinterest board made for Newt when he EVENTUALLY marries Thomas

• Minho is the cool uncle and constantly smuggles candy to the kids when he vists

•Minho has had multiple Nerf wars against Newt, Thomas, Izzy, and Sonya, one of the older boys always have Dante on their shoulders so he isn’t left out

•He’ll never admit it but Minho has fallen asleep cuddling Jackie multiple times

•Jackie is obsessed with Minho and treats him more like a brother than Thomas, she’s still shy around him

•Thomas had stayed the night and the two had woken up from Newt’s nightmare, the boy crying against his boyfriend and not noticing the little kid until he had climbed into Newt’s lap and hugged him

Book Jackson/Holt lore is so interesting cause of the number of details brought up about their appearance and their livelihood as a whole. It feels very rounded in a sense due to how integrated they are into the story. I LOVE DETAILS

Details/Descriptions I think should be discussed more:

Both live with their mother in a cute white cottage, which has yellow roses in the front and generally a cheery exterior. However, the inside of the house is decorated with "dusty velvet couches, dark oriental rugs, and cluttered corners filled with knickknacks that could have arrived via time machine from Old World London" (pg. 181, Book 1). Also, described as "the dark funeral-parlor-style furniture"

Their mom is a science teacher at Merston High, though previously was a genetic research scientist. She wears "Woody Allen glasses, a sharp black bob, red lipstick, and a collection of pencil skirts and blouses in varying shades of black." (pg. 127, Book 1. ) Her personality is somewhat strict, but caring. She found out that overheating causes Jackson to transform, which was why she never let him play sports. She regards them as both of her sons and loves both.

Jackson's love for art is genuinely so cute and it's evident that he's very passionate about it. His fingers are occasionally stained with pastels and he just likes creating things in general, which is neat.

The fact that Jackson made ceramic flowers for a girl he liked is very wholesome, and then smashing it in the school parking lot cause she kissed a guy right in front of him is so real

For appearances, Jackson has brown hair, thick black glasses, and hazel eyes. Later on in Book 2, DJ gains his own appearance, that being blonde and blue-eyed (I got that from the MH wiki page so I can't really confirm).

Small details like these are very cool and they make the characters feel more realistic!

Jackie opened her eyes, blinking as she slowly adjusted to the dim light of her hospital room. She'd been awoken by a soft fussing sound from the bassinet next to her bed.

She sat up and gently swung her legs over the side of the bed, but bit her lip with hesitancy as she peered down at her whimpering newborn. Okay, she reminded herself, she could do this. She was made to do this. She was Jackie freaking Burkhart, for crying out loud! Then why did she still feel so scared?

Jackie took a deep breath and stood over the bassinet, ready to pick up her son. Support the neck, she recited the nurses' instructions in the back of her mind, like a prayer. One hand under the head and one under the bum. Avoid the umbilical cord.

She felt cold, robotic, stiff, as she lifted him to her chest. Worse, baby Jay continued to bleat pathetically against her.

"Okay buddy," she cooed, swaying her body left to right and then up and down in an attempt to soothe him. "Okay. It's okay. Shh."

After a few more moments, Jackie found a rhythm that baby Jay seemed to like and he started to quiet. She patted his back, ever so gently.

"There we go," she murmured. The sound of her voice seemed to calm him further, and she smiled when she felt his weight relax fully against her. "I'm not going anywhere," she promised, kissing the delicate wisps of his hair.

and one day in 1998, Canadian forest rangers happen upon that American high school soccer team that went missing 2 years back. they find a group of starving teens and a baby, a little over a year old, two of the girls wrapped around him--and each other

and when the rescue team tries to separate them the one with tangled, golden brown hair bears her teeth and Growls
