Sketch Studies of Jesper from "Klaus."

I know that the holiday season was already passed (even though March 25 was Annunciation Day), but I wanted to draw my favorite character from the film to keep my inspirations growing.

These sketches were referenced from the screencaps from Animation Screencaps.

Drew them with Pilot Color Eno Mechanical Pencils and Uni Mitsubishi Hi-Uni Pencils. Edited and collaged them with GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

I was annoyed with Jesper at the beginning of the movie. It's wonderful when the main character is so nasty at first that EVERYONE trolls him. It can be difficult to come down from heaven to earth, but Jesper did it, and that's why I liked him.

The movie, of course, is wonderful, and will undoubtedly become a New Year's classic.

They had finally delivered all the presents and Jesper was more than happy to go back to the cabin and celebrate their success when Mogens’ boat pulled up to the dock. “More incoming mail? Already??” They all eye the boat wearily and Jesper watched in suspended disbelief as his Father, of all people, walked off Mogens’ boat. The two stare at each other and Jesper doesn’t know what to say or do. Or what to say. Why was his Father here? How did he find out about Jesper’s success? None of this made any sense. “Father?” Jesper swallows and shifts closer to Klaus. “What are you doing here??” The man smiled down at him and motions to the boat. “I’m here to take you home. You did what you needed to do, you can leave Smeerensburg behind and return to your life” Jesper opens and closes his mouth, looking back at all of his friends.
