Drift's Jettrine AU

Crack at the Drift Fam + Jetfire but in TFP instead of RiD.

the trine need some tweaks; sharper detailing more muted colors, but i feel like this is a good start.

i love how cohesive the Drift fam's designs are in RiD, and i need to figure out a better way to integrate that with their "new" paint jobs without completely sacrificing their color pallets.

Random Lore/Backstory:

Deadlock's was one the Decpeticon's most dangerous

The minicons backstory with Shadow Raker is still canon, with Jetfire thrown in

(JETFIRE AND SKYFIRE ARE SEPERATE ENTITIES)

While all three are Deployers, they have aeiral altmodes as well transforming into jets, with their Earth altmodes are Bede Bd-5J's specifically

i guess this technically makes them triple changers??? but that doesn't seem to be as big of a deal in the Aligned verse (gestures to the Rescuebots' (+Rescuebots Academy) whole deal in mild confusion) so i hesitate to refer them as such so yeah

Slipstream was previously known as Jetstream before she transitioned (🏳️‍⚧️)

Has had the hardest time breaking her stealing habits, and is very protective of what she thinks as hers (this extends to her family as well as her weaponry)

Jetstorm lost his right optic in an "accident" before he joined ShadowRaker (no one would hire a "broken ugly" minicon when there were so many perfectly functioning cute ones ready for hire

still prone to reckless rushing and the subsequent overthinking and overcorrecting (feeling the need to prove he is useful and worth his mentor's time)

Jetfire is a slight pyro maniac which he shamelessly denies even as he sticks a shatterbomb to someone

he also has a terrible luck when it comes to weather, and gets easily lost without his trinemates

Deadlock split off from Shadow Raker after being mocked/baited one too many times

Pissed, he'd planned on simply stealing Shadow Raker's favorite ship and skipping town but he ended up stumbling across the Jettrine being when he was searching for supplies

it was easier just to take them then try and weasel his way out of it, and they surprisingly went along with it

struck out on his own after a while (and needing shanix for energon for the triplets he'd picked up) and caught Megatron's eye

Joined the decepticons as a mercenary and starting getting clean, rising in the ranks. Deadlock was no 'Wave but he held Megatron's favor

when Deadlock found out Megatron still worked with Shadow Raker, he didn't take it well

the start of the deterioration of their relationship- Deadlock being outraged that Megatron tolerated someone who saw his men as objects/tools/etc from one under his command and Megatron... really not giving a shit about the details

Shadow Raker's forces were damn good at their job, they were all treated well, and he was a proven loyal decepticon, so what did it matter if he gave out punishments and stole a few things here and there (SR is obviously not stupid enough to steal from Megatron or it would be a different story)

Megatron allowed Deadlock to storm out, assigning him the occasional mission as he blew off steam and meandered

Deadlock isn't happy with the direction the Decpeticon cause is going but has no idea what to do about it (because if it pans out to nothing then he killed and committed so many war crimes for NOTHING)

his newly acquired students, however they became such, aren't particularly bothered with politics and are far more interested in what this old man has to teach them

Eventually Deadlock gets orders to return to the Nemesis to get a personal debriefing on the chain of command

thinking Megatron's finally gonna address the issues he'd been seeing, he made it in record time

... to find STARSCREAM in charge

Flat out turns on his heel and dips out at THAT shitshow

Deadlock gave the Trine their headpieces/ ornaments about a year(?) into their training, though at the time they'd been unpainted

I saw this comment on a video where the creator was talking about Nightshade (adorable autistic baby) and defending them. And let me just say this is one of the stupidest takes I ever heard.

There's so many characters in Transformers who are confirmed to be apart of the LBGTQIA+ community. Case in Point: KOBD, a canonically gay couple made up of Knockout and Breakdown two cons who adored each other. And then we have Megatron who doesn't possess a straight bone in his body, like seriously the way he acts towards Optimus? They're divorced and Bee is their son. And the bi rep with Rattrap who mentions having ex girlfriends and clearly has a thing with Dinobot . More gay rep with Tailgate and Cyclonus another canon gay couple. The Trans Rep with Ratchet and Acree. Dinobot being in a queer relationship with Rattrap. (I forgot what the I mean right now). Whirl is 100% a chaotic Ace who enjoys shipping his friends and spending time with his daughter Whirl and just being himself. Strongarm and Windblade in SG? Jetfire and Starscream in any universe? Acree being a lesbian in the comics? And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Transformers is just full of LGBTQIA+ characters. Nightshade being enby isn't brainwashing your kids or ruining Transformers. If you genuinely believe that then you aren't a real Transformers fan and should look in the mirror when you wonder what's wrong with Society.

His first instinct upon seeing an ally harmed is to bring them to the nearest doctor of course. Despite how quickly he picks you up, he's surprisingly gentle and doesn't throttle you around as he takes you to Red Alert who then tells him to take you to a hospital. He spends a hot second running every red light in the city to bring you to the hospital. Once your arm's put in a cast and you come back to base, he'll be more cautious about what you're doing and where you're going. Of course he'll ask you what happened and he'll scold you for being reckless.

Jetfire

He's still figuring out how fragile humans are, and what will seriously injure someone and what won't, so he initially thinks it's nothing big and encourages you to "walk it off" because he thinks you're a pretty tough kid. But the moment he takes a closer look, he realizes that oh, human arms are NOT supposed to look or bend or swell like that... Once again, you're brought to see Red Alert, but when he's told to take you to the hospital, he has to pass you off to someone like Hotshot or Hoist because a giant space shuttle in the middle of a city is not exactly being discreet. Once you're all patched up, he'll warn you to be more careful when you're playing next time. From then on, he's quicker to act the moment he hears anything that sounds like crying.

Prowl

His brain automatically kicks into autopilot, and he follows protocol. He first assesses the injury, and after determining that it's something that requires a medical specialist, he's quick to drive you to the hospital. Once you're passed off to a doctor, he goes back to inspect where you were playing to figure out how you broke your arm, and he establishes any safety measures accordingly. And once you're feeling better, he'll ask you how it happened, and if he needs to he'll scold you.

Imagine Starscream drunkenly calling Jetfire about how much he misses him, his eyes, his smile, his touch, bouncing on his big juicy spike, his laughter, his passion, sucking on his big fat juicy spike, his care, his kindness and his cuddles. And Jetfire was in a meeting with the other Autobots and put Starscream on speaker (because Prowl told him to) so now everyone knows the details of SkyStar's interface life. And Bee is just dying while trying to laugh because Prowl who thought that they can get details for future con plans is furious because he knows way too much about SkyStar and their kinks now and it's his own fault.

Prowl. You fucked up big time, and now you have visual on just how much Starscream can take Jetfire's massive shuttle spike.

Have you read the Skybound comics yet? Their version of Starscream is unhinged and I'm loving it. She immediately kills someone you mentioned would increase her complex appeal if she did. Starts with a J. Her backstory has a good grasp of her science background (though I wish she was more sassy even pre-war instead of innocent wonderment personified). And the graphic violence fully explores why Starscream is evil even without Megatron while also being funny. Prime struggles with his own personal trauma but remains gentle unless force is the only option. Sorry I ranted a bit. Just trying to explain why I think Skybound checks a lot of boxes on who each character truly is since their original inception.

okay, so i won't try to go to into skybound because this would be a huge ramble but i've been silently reading it and oh my god this is literally the perfect most repulsive most despair-inducing starscream ever. she is so hysterically cruel yet so hopelessly destructive. a victim of her own choices yet her life yielded to be her own—she pulled the trigger yet she was helpless to stop it.

her complete disregard for others is so callous in its execution (which is something i wish was hinted at even in her earlier days, as you said—maybe not to the degree of her in the present, but at least plants the roots of her selfishness, which i believe is an innate part of her regardless of her standing) that it starts to become comical until you realize this is one of the only starscreams to ever act upon what she thinks is right for people below her with no hesitation—getting rid of them immediately. it's such a bleak portrayal of something that could never truly be displayed without some form of censorship or trivialized in its cruelty because of her perception in the franchise, yet the one look into her past gradually juxtaposes how different she used to be, tending to the turbosects and marveling at their beauty. it makes the scenes where she just crushes and stomps on humans because she can so much more revolting, because it shows that even for something considered an insect she wouldn't have done the same.

(also: the juxtaposition of optimus admiring the earth's beauty and humanity as it is versus starscream's destruction as it is...)

you feel so bad for her until you remember just what she did to bumblebee, jetfire and ravage—especially ravage—and it hits you that these are things she did not under threat, not under coercion, but because she could. for every time she is hurt, you remember how she indulged in the ability to hurt others prior. how much she hesitated and couldn't shoot prisoners of war and screaming sorry as she did it when she was young to hesitation being an enigma to her impulse. she forgot what it means to be helpless—to lose something so dear to her—that it takes her losing everything just as she did when she was young to even get her to calm down, even a little. and even them she remains a ticking time bomb, just waiting to unlearn everything she went through and go back to her old ways.

whatever love she had for jetfire and genvo (and still has for genvo, because he is forever gone and can never hurt her in any other way) dying and slowly rotting, whatever regard she had for anything else falling. the complete despicable nature of her actions and the improbable act of her reflection. her recognizing how awful she is and her completely indulging. the destruction of her innocence growing into her tendencies of imposed destruction of the world and self. she is not an angel, not even an angel of death, but something repugnant with wings. left to rot and be objectified into something even less, bound to the ground and humiliatingly in need of help. what a loser!

Finally getting around to answering this question so yay!

So yeah Sky-Byte’s a severely underrated character, and I kinda wished he appeared more in TF shows.

If I were to pick an existing one for him to make an appearance in though, I would have to say Transformers: Prime. Kind of a basic answer but hear me out.

First off, the Predacons exist because of Shockwave’s cloning technique (average tf subplot lol), so the idea of an actual, living Predacon existing in the show would actually be kind of crazy.

Considering the fact that we have bots in the skies and bots on land, I think we’re bound to have someone in the seas, no?

In my opinion, his introduction to the show would be a scene of him lurking deep below an illegal fishing vessel somewhere in the world before suddenly leaping up and tearing it down in the most brutal manner possible (PG of course).

Lowkey, I kinda want to imagine Sky-Byte as some sort of threat. As much as I love how silly he was in RID 2001 (and maybe Cyberverse although he did wipe out like 7 civilisations-), I do think that he would actually cause a huge panic for Fowler and the Autobots. I think he would even creep Megatron out.

Of course, he has shark characteristics because the shark biologist within me says yes :3.

I just know that his battle style would be ambush. Just catching the opponent off guard when they least expect it.

Honestly to make him even more terrifying, what if I allowed a misconception and grant him the ability to smell energon/blood from a mile away?

Ok this is starting to look an AU rant (if that exists) or something, but now I kinda want to write something about this. Maybe throw in Jetfire to the mix for the fun of it.

Ooo! Maybe I should do like those boards of what certain bots think of him vs what he thinks of them.

To close this off, I really do think that there’s a lot of potential for him to be in Transformers: Prime due to it being one of the more darker shows which could bring another side to his character.

The Spooky Sidequest NO ONE wanted to sign up for

Drift's Jettrine having to deal with Airachnid because they clearly don't have enough trauma with shady criminals with creepy bug altmodes that spit webbing at you and want you as part of their collection.

At least with Shadow Raker they were sure he wouldn't kill them and waste all the time, energy, and resources he put into training them.

Dealing with a serial killer who has a thing for smaller prey bots is a very different story.

I never thought of Animated as being too dramatic, but it did start leaning that way in its final season. The concept of Autobots not typically being flyers seems to be born from G1 trying to establish this also, if you ignore the pilot having the Autobots flying. The Decepticons having the ability to fly in Robot Mode was pry the most consistent thing G1 did, with the show later having the Aerialbots and Stunticons created to compensate for what the Autobots and Decepticons lacked.

Animated tries to copy this idea, but it too flubs it up by Ratchet claiming Autobots can’t fly despite knowing full well Omega Supreme and his brood could, along with Swoop. That Jetfire and Jetstorm can fly being due to copying Starscream’s schematics isn’t too out there, but I’m also wondering why the Autobots didn’t already HAVE Decepticon schematics left over from the war so they could freely make flyers for exploration purposes. For that matter, why couldn’t Perceptor and Wheeljack make a working whittled down version of Omega Supreme’s flying ability and apply it to other Autobots.

It would appear Aligned Autobots don’t have these odd limitations since Blades and Whirl were able to become helicopters with no strings attached, and RiD15 introduced Windblade, Twinferno, Stormshot and a pair of jet combiners in the toy line. So the TFP Autobots are apparently stupid if none them thought to at least try to Transform into something that flies. It’s well documented Prime suffered a lot of behind the scenes problems most notably Hasbro and the show writers having different, conflicting views on what to do, making the point of an “Aligned” approach useless.

Prime was also too ambitious and big for its britches, it just didn’t have a solid identity while its prototype RiD stage meanwhile had a stronger Bayformers style that actually sounded more interesting than what we got. I stand by Prime’s greatest strength was simply getting Peter and Frank back to reprise their roles because I don’t think either are returning post RiD15 anytime soon due to budget and frankly age. Peter sadly isn’t getting any younger, god bless his delightful lil’ soul.

RiD15’s primary problem was being billed as a direct sequel to the grittier Prime, when it actually works much better as a soft sequel-spin off to Rescue Bots aimed at slightly older elementary kids, something the writers clearly seemed to agree with due to stronger references to Rescue Bots, Sideswipe visiting Griffin Rock to apprehend a Cyclone Mini-Con, and Blurr being a teammate in RiD for awhile. Another problem that sticks out is why, in-story, are the Decepticons primarily animal themed, as the show never tries to explain this, and in some ways seems just as confused as to why this is also. It’s why I will die on the hill this should’ve involved Onyx Prime as the primary villain, who manipulated things to send a Beast army to Earth to wipe it clean and make it a paradise for Beast type Transformers, but Steeljaw intended to instead turn Earth into a new Decepticon base of operations to restart the war against the Autobots HIS way. I’ve seen some fans try to say all the animal Decepticons are Shockwave experiments, due to the Dinobots and Predacons in FoC and Prime, but I’ve never been a fan of this idea as I don’t like Shockwave being the only one responsible for why Cybertron has Beast Mode Transformers (as well as fans ignoring Onyx Prime, the guy who ushered in animal robots on Cybertron in this canon).

If you’re worried about woke stuff, I should bring up that had the staff had their way, the Transformers species in Cyberverse would’ve all been gender-fluid non-binary, changing between male and female bodies as much as vehicle or beast modes. They admitted as much in Twitter Q&A’s

How that would’ve worked as a toy I have no idea. Probably flip down Bumblebee’s male head, and a curvier lipstick wearing female head takes its place? They gave the Lugnut gender bend lipstick so that’s not out of place.

EarthSpark is what you get by trying to combine Rescue Bots and MTMTE IDW together. It’s not a perfect marriage, and they wound up focusing on ideas most people don’t care about in Transformers. It was developed during the height of modernized DEI, but the backlash of Nightshade and its already slipshod butterfly chasing writing caused kids and casuals to reject it, and for Hasbro and Nick to restructure the show haphazardly into a traditional Autobots vs Decepticons conflict to rebound, only for the people who did like what ES was doing to reject that. The show Last Jedi’d itself, and if it does continue, it’ll probably Rise of Skywalker itself further making a product everyone just hates more than Energon and prefers to forget happened.

Now I’ve been on record saying I’m fine with Nightshade, I like them being a geeky scientist owl, but I do think the show overfixated on their gender identity too much, causing the current problem. The often overlooked thing about Nightshade originally not WANTING to Transform wouldn’t have been popular if that was retained, and Jawbreaker over thinking on what he wanted to turn into I think only made people more annoyed by him. Not helped is the guidebook for the show says that a Transformer can’t re-scan and whatever they initially scanned on Earth is permanent… something the show clearly didn’t go with for Megatron (who rescanned a helicopter from presumably his Earth tank mode) and Hashtag (who took on an off road truck later on after being a surveillance van).
