Poorest Little Meow Meow NOT from a BL: Bonus Round
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Submitted Reasons Under Cut]
Han Juwon: He is a typical kdrama lead in theory, his mom has been taken from him at a young age, his dad sent him far away to private schools and is using him in his political schemes. Han Juwon has mysophobia, not a social bone in his body and a RBF that do not endear him to people at all. He's not above using people and a little tweaking of the law to reach his goals.
Wave:
Ryu Sooyel: look how soppy wet he is. no one respects him. not even himself
Vier:
Kishimoto Ruka:
Katha: Khatha is such a poor little meow meow that he should be allowed to participate.
Lee Dongsik: He has been wrongly accused of killing his twin sister 20 years ago but never really cleared his name (no body, no crime, no convicted murderer) and is still searching for her. People still think he did it and are not afraid to treat him like shit. He's heavily traumatized. And let's say he's not above a little manipulation and crime to find his sister and her murderer
Jiang Zisuan: he spent like half of his life trying to avenge the death of his older sister and then for some reason just cant seem to actually do that before (SPOILER) dying in a random woman‘s arms who he employed because she looks like his sister and imagining that its actually her. she also was kind of in love with him which made this whole situation worse. and he killed so many people on the way except the guy he actually wanted to
Yun Biqui: SPOILER WARNING FOR SERIES: Ten years ago, Yun Biqiu was tricked into betraying the sect leader he idolized, Li Xiangyi. At the behest of a beautiful woman, he poisoned LXY; he only intended to temporarily incapacitate LXY, but the antidote he was promised turned out to be fake. LXY disappeared and was presumed dead, and Biqiu never stopped blaming himself and hoping that LXY would return. EXTREME SPOILER WARNING FOR END OF SERIES: When LXY eventually did return ten years later, Biqiu pretended to be re-beguiled by the beautiful woman in order to sabotage her evil schemes; to convince her of his loyalty, he also pretended to betray LXY again, stabbing him non-fatally and bringing him to her. His sabotaging allowed LXY to escape, though, and helped contribute to the defeat of all the baddies. Despite this, he still believed that he deserved to die for everything he'd done previously; when confronted with his past treachery and presumed current treachery, he did not defend himself, and would have willingly submitted to his own execution. Luckily, LXY arrived in time to reveal the truth of Biqiu's regret and loyalty, and also finally gave Biqiu peace by forgiving him for what he'd done ten years ago. And Biqiu cried 🥺
Master Amin: girlbossed to close to the sun
Shiro: Sleeping with a sleazy, much older politician in order to get information about his missing sister, who isn’t even his sister by blood. Openly gay yakuza and ready to fight about that. Cohabitating with a painfully strait laced and uptight virgin penguin. (A cop. Not a literal penguin.)

stories where the characters are just so horrible. they’re awful and they’re selfish and they’re morally gray but despite that, they care so fiercely about each other. they hurt and they yell at each other but it’s all because of love. they can never escape from their cycle of constant pain and misunderstanding and suffering because they cannot find in themselves the ability to change.

Yup, still on my gay coproganda bs.
One of the more interesting things about Jiang Ting's character is how much he doesn't actually want to be a character. His defense mechanism is to turn the question around. We first see this when Yan Xie confronts him the first time about being 'Captain Jiang'. He asks Jiang Ting what he has to say about all of the things he'd uncovered about Jiang Ting's past, and Jiang Ting's response is "What do you want 'Captain Jiang' to say? Tell me and I'll say it."
And he does this so often. He could lie, he could tell a half-truth, instead he asks what the other person wants to hear. What they want him to be.
And guess what? I'm totally normal about that. XD
The earliest memory we have of him is as a child, cleaning his father's body and being grateful that he wasn't beaten today. He's too young to understand that his father overdosed (we get no information about his mother) and is already dead. He's too young to realize that the majority of the people in his small village are either addicts or dealers, that it's a miracle he was born without HIV. When he's sent to the orphanage, he's isolated and bullied, internalized that he's unclean and unlovable when he looks in the mirror. When Yan Xie gets angry at the corruption in the orphanage Bu Wei grew up in, he just replies that 'It's like that, in places like these.'
When Ma Xiang confronts him, asking him who he is really. Is he the mole that got Yan Xie shot and nearly killed, lying on an operating room table while they waited for news? Jiang Ting says it himself, he's the most suspicious out of all of them, because even swept under the rug, the rest of the division Knows something is off about their 'Consultant Lu'. Jiang Ting doesn't define himself. He says "I'm who your Yan-ge thinks I am."
Yan Xie listens to the half-truths he's spun about himself after he dragged Jiang Ting out of the river, and Jiang Ting tells him: The safest thing for you is to hand me over to the police. I can't make myself believe you, because I have nothing now. I can't respond to this feeling, because I don't want to lie to you. Whether you hand me in or not is up to you.
He even does this to Wen Shao, when his loyality is probed. "What do you want me to say?" Except Wen Shao thinks he understands Jiang Ting the best, that only Jiang Ting understands him. Jiang Ting tells the truth then, that the one who understood his reasons wasn't him. Yan Xie was the one who correctly guessed the motives.
Because Jiang Ting has never been wanted as himself. He was the child of drug addicts, tossed into a orphanage where the corruption was rampant and money went into the adult's hands more often than not. When he finally found a friend, someone who liked him and didn't chase him away, his first thought is of saving his friend. Wen Shao has money and a family who loves him, so it's okay if he dies as long as Wen Shao lives. When his friend betrays him, saves himself first, Jiang Ting is happy.
Except his first friend, the person who says now everything I have is yours and you will be my only brother, the one person who likes someone like Jiang Ting, is the son of a drug lord. He forces the kidnappers who hurt them to take heroin, then turns to Jiang Ting and asks if he's happy now.
The child who watched his father overdose and has finally learned to understand what drugs are, is forced to watch more people die the same way by the one person who was supposed to love him.
He's happy. He's very happy. (The lie is so weak - he's ten years old and he's never had to hide himself like this before, despite everything. He's only just realizing that his first lie was already made, because he can't be loyal to Wen Shao, not like this. But he lies, because what else can he do? )
Wu Tun adopted him to keep his son, Wen Shao, in check. He's a pawn, put into a good school and groomed to be a policeman with padded pockets who will let the drug cartel off. He hates - hates - that he has no choice in this, he just has to become the pawn Wu Tun wants.
Wen Shao returns and he's brought new, even worse drugs with him. He wants his Red Queen on his side, gives Jiang Ting an apartment to rest in, to take care of things that would be 'inconvienent' otherwise, and Jiang Ting hates and hates even more.
So he plans to kill the King of Spades, then take out the Ace of Clubs. It can't erase what he is, but maybe he can move forward. All the over time, the stress, the loneliness will be worth it. (I'm so very very Normal about how he can't just agree to hanging out with his coworkers, how he over thinks and decides half way to take the agreement back and say 'let's talk about it tomorrow'. Because he wants to go, for the first time in his life he wants to do something as simple as going out with coworkers - possibly friends.)
Except he's been sold out. His plan falls through. His team dies and he'll never be able to talk about it tomorrow, and when he runs into the fire, all that's left for him is three years of being comatose and the King of Spades going free.
When he meets Yan Xie, he hides. He wants to be what Yan Xie wants him to be, but he can't. He's still tied as the Queen of Hearts, haunted by the sins he's committed and the people who died. He comments that Yan Xie is blind falling for someone like him, calling him beautiful all the time. That this crush that he'd never allowed himself to pursue has come back into his life and wants to be picked by him.
The Red Queen's heart that was so full of hate now has something else. But even if Yan Xie was blind now, would he still love Jiang Ting when he saw the truth?
He hides and he hides and lies, and when the cards are drawn, he finally tells the truth, finds something to define himself by. "I love you, Yan Xie."
Yan Xie's faith in him is already broken. It has to be broken further. The best lie is the one that is the truth that no one believes.

These are official ref sheets I have made for Hsien-Ko Shao and Mei-Ling Shao of Cryas Darkstalkers. Very proud to detail not only their full designs, but aspects of their layers of clothing, tidbits about their bodies, and even how they looked when they were young humans! I did quite a lot of research into their looks and designs since they were born in 1730 AD in the Guanzhong region of what is in the modern Shaanxi province in China. That period of time was during the reign of the Qing Dynasty. Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling are a mix of Han and Manchu.

heyo how does a headcanon of our KH boys sound but get this…in a our dining table bl version? :)
I love my boys and I love Our Dining Table...I'm listening, I'm listening 👀 (I also used the manga to write this headcanon and it's long so it'll be under the cut). I hope you like it!
It’s a rather quiet and peaceful day in Jing City as Chief Jiang Yuelou was out on patrol, just enjoying the sunshine when something (or someone) slammed into him, making him look down to see a little girl around the age five staring up at him with wide eyes
“Oh…hello”
He then slowly knelt down so that he was eye-level with her
“Are you lost?”
The little girl shook her head
“No.  I’m just waiting for my gege”
Jiang Yuelou hummed, just as a young man dressed in a cream three-piece suit ran over to them, a doctor’s bag in his hand
“Keying!  What have I told you about running off?!”
He then took her by the hand before he looked at Jiang Yuelou apologetically
“I’m so sorry”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head as he pushed himself to his feet
“No, no…it’s alright.  She didn’t hurt me”
The young man smiled slightly and nodded before he looked down at Keying
“Come on, let’s go”
Keying nodded before they began to walk away, Keying turning to wave goodbye to Jiang Yuelou before she turned her attention to the young man, whom Jiang Yuelou assumed was her brother, and began talking happily, the young man smiling fondly in reply
Jiang Yuelou watched the two for a moment before he smiled and continued on his patrol
Well that was…nice
The next day, when Jiang Yuelou was on patrol again, the little girl, Keying if he remembered her name correctly, ran up to him, a bright smile on her face
“Mr. Policeman!”
Jiang Yuelou looked at her in surprise
“How did you know I’m a police officer?”
Keying smiled
“I can just tell”
Jiang Yuelou chuckled as he knelt before her
“Clever little girl, aren’t you?”
Just then, the young man walked over them and sighed softly
“Keying…”
He then looked at Jiang Yuelou and smiled apologetically
“I’m sorry, Mr.—”
Jiang Yuelou smiled as he pushed himself to his feet
“Jiang Yuelou.  Chief Jiang Yuelou”
The young man smiled
“Dr. Chen Yuzhi”
Jiang Yuelou hummed
“Dr. Chen”
He then looked at him
“My lunch break is in a little bit…would you two like to join me for lunch?”
Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened before he shook his head
“Sorry…I have a house call to make in a moment”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“I understand”
“But—”
Jiang Yuelou raised an eyebrow
“But?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“Would dinner be alright?”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him in surprise before he smiled and nodded
“Dinner sounds great.  Shall I meet you…at your clinic when I’m finished with work?”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“That sounds good”
He then looked down at Keying and held out his hand
“Come on, Keying”
Keying nodded and took his hand before she looked at Jiang Yuelou and grinned
“Bye Mr. Policeman!”
Jiang Yuelou smiled softly and dipped his head
“Bye Keying”
He then watched them walk away before he chuckled softly; he was looking forward to eating dinner with the two of them
Later that evening, after he finished work, Jiang Yuelou headed out of the police department and through the streets, searching for Chen Yuzhi’s clinic when he soon found the sign “Yuzhi Hall” above one of the street-front stores, causing him to smile slightly
‘Ah…found you’
He then walked over to the clinic, just as Chen Yuzhi and Keying were exiting, Keying smiling brightly when she saw him
“Chief Jiang!”
At her shout, Chen Yuzhi turned and smiled slightly
“Did you just get here?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Yeah.  Perfect timing, huh?”
Chen Yuzhi laughed and nodded
“Yeah”
After he locked up, he took Keying’s hand before he looked at Jiang Yuelou
“Shall we go?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded before he, Chen Yuzhi, and Keying walked away from Chen Yuzhi’s clinic, the three of them walking through the quiet streets of Jing City until they came upon a wonton stand, much to Jiang Yuelou’s surprise
“Oh.  You come here too?”
Chen Yuzhi looked over at him in surprise
“You come here?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded as he motioned to a house not too far from the wonton stand
“It’s not too far from my house so it’s easy to come to after work”
Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened before he laughed
“I didn’t realize we lived so close to each other”
Jiang Yuelou blinked in surprise before he laughed
“What a coincidence”
He then motioned to the wonton stand
“Shall we?”
Chen Yuzhi nodded before the three of them sat down at one of the tables, Jiang Yuelou ordering for all of them
When the food arrived, they ate in silence and after they finished, Jiang Yuelou looked at Chen Yuzhi and smiled
“How about next time we have dinner at my house?”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him in surprise as Keying reached over and gave his coat sleeve a tug
“Can we, gege?”
Chen Yuzhi looked over at her before he looked at Jiang Yuelou and nodded
“Sure.  That’d be nice”
Jiang Yuelou grinned
“Great”
The next time Jiang Yuelou, Chen Yuzhi, and Keying got together for dinner, Jiang Yuelou invited Chen Yuzhi and Keying over to his house, Keying immediately enamored with his cat
“You can go play with him, I’ll go make dinner”
Keying nodded and went to go play with the cat while Chen Yuzhi followed Jiang Yuelou into the kitchen
“Is there anything I can help with?”
Jiang Yuelou looked over at him and laughed, shaking his head
“You’re a guest, I’m not going to make you cook”
Chen Yuzhi frowned
“Are you sure?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Yes, yes.  Now go relax with your sister, dinner should be done soon”
Chen Yuzhi huffed before he nodded and turned, heading out of the kitchen as Jiang Yuelou began to prepare dinner
About an hour or so later, Jiang Yuelou brought out the dishes and placed them on the table before he looked over at Keying and Chen Yuzhi
“Dinner’s ready”
Keying and Chen Yuzhi looked over at him before they both headed over to the table, Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widening at the spread
“This looks incredible!”
Jiang Yuelou smiled and waved his hand
“This is nothing, just something I like to make every now and then”
Chen Yuzhi looked over at him and smiled
“Well, it looks and smells incredible.  Thank you for inviting us”
Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widened before he nodded
“Of course.  Shall we eat?”
Keying and Chen Yuzhi nodded, all of them beginning to eat what Jiang Yuelou made, Keying letting out a happy hum as she did a little dance in her seat
“Yummy!”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“It is really good, Jiang Yuelou”
Jiang Yuelou smiled softly
“I’m glad you like it”
Keying then looked at him
“Will you teach me how to make this, gege?”
Jiang Yuelou looked at her in shock before he looked over at Chen Yuzhi
“Um—”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“I’m okay with it.  But only if you are”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“No, no, I am, it’s just…”
He then paused before he looked at Keying and smiled
“Sure”
After dinner, as Chen Yuzhi was helping Jiang Yuelou clean up, Jiang Yuelou cleared his throat
“I’m…glad you both liked dinner”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“It was really good”
Jiang Yuelou smiled
“I’m glad”
His smile then turned sad
“It was my mother’s recipe.  What we had for dinner tonight.  I haven’t…made it in years but…I wanted to impress you two and…”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he reached out and placed a gentle hand on his arm
“We were both very impressed”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“I’m glad”
He then laughed weakly
“Making dinner tonight…I felt like I was a kid again, making dinner with my mother.  It was…nice”
Chen Yuzhi was quiet before he gave his arm a squeeze
“Tell me about her sometime?”
Jiang Yuelou blinked and looked over at him in shock before he nodded
“Okay”
Chen Yuzhi then tilted his head
“When should we come over for cooking lessons?”
Jiang Yuelou blinked again before he laughed
“Um…how about next weekend?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled and nodded
“Okay”
The next weekend, Chen Yuzhi and Keying came over for their “cooking” lesson, Chen Yuzhi mainly observing while Jiang Yuelou taught Keying how to make the dumplings and the noddle dish his mother used to make for him when he was younger
After their lesson, they ate the finished dishes, Jiang Yuelou smiling softly
“It’s good for your first attempt”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“It is good.  Well done, A-Ying”
Keying beamed, happy to be praised as Chen Yuzhi looked over at Jiang Yuelou
“Do you want to come over to our house next time and we can teach you a recipe?”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him in surprise before he laughed
“I’d love to”
After that, it just…sort of became a thing
Every other weekend, Jiang Yuelou or Chen Yuzhi and Keying would head over to the other’s house and learn a new recipe from the other before eating it for either lunch or dinner
And sometimes instead of going to the other’s house for dinner, they would just eat dinner at the wonton stand, but that was still enjoyable because they were together
After hanging out with each other for a while, everyone began to notice a difference in the two men…the other police officers noticed that Jiang Yuelou smiled more, he whistled while walking through the police department…he just seemed happier
And as for Chen Yuzhi, well, he always smiled and was relatively happy but to his patients he just seemed…brighter
Then one day, as Jiang Yuelou was out doing patrol, he noticed Chen Yuzhi heading out, but to his surprise, Keying wasn’t with him
“Chen Yuzhi!”
At his name, Chen Yuzhi looked up and when he saw Jiang Yuelou coming towards him, he smiled slightly
“Jiang Yuelou”
Jiang Yuelou then tilted his head
“No Keying today?”
Chen Yuzhi shook her head
“She’s not feeling well.  I left her at home and I’m trying to finish up this house call quickly so that I can go home and look after her”
Jiang Yuelou hummed
“Why don’t I go?”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wide eyes
“I couldn’t ask you—”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head
“I don’t mind”
Chen Yuzhi smiled and dipped his head
“Thank you.  Really”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Of course”
Chen Yuzhi smiled again before he reached into his pocket and took out his keys, carefully removing one of them from his keychain before he handed it to Jiang Yuelou
“Here.  So you can get into the house”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Thank you”
Chen Yuzhi smiled and shook his head
“No, thank you”
He then continued on his way, Jiang Yuelou turning to watch him leave before he continued on with his patrol, making his way towards Chen Yuzhi’s house
When he arrived at the house, he unlocked the gate and pushed it open before he stepped inside, closing it behind him before he made his way through the courtyard and into the house, immediately noticing Keying resting on the couch
At the sight of her, he smiled softly and walked over to her, quietly kneeling beside her
“Keying?”
At her name, Keying weakly opened an eye and when she saw him, she smiled weakly
“Gege”
Jiang Yuelou’s smile widened
“Hey.  How are you feeling?”
Keying shook her head
“Icky”
Jiang Yuelou hummed before he reached out and gently placed the back of his hand to her forehead, humming softly
“You feel warm…let me go make you something”
Keying nodded before she shut her eyes, Jiang Yuelou gently petting her hair before he pushed himself to his feet and headed to the kitchen to make her something warm and comforting to hopefully help her feel better
After he made her a simple bowl of congee, Jiang Yuelou walked back out into the living room and knelt before Keying, gently shaking her shoulder
“Keying.  Come on, let’s eat a little”
Keying opened her eyes and looked at him before she nodded and slowly sat up, Jiang Yuelou pushing himself to his feet before he sat beside her, placing the bowl of congee in her hands
“Can you hold it or do you want me to hold it?”
Keying shook her head
“I can do it”
Jiang Yuelou nodded and watched as she took careful and small bites, as if she didn’t want to make herself sick or throw up
“You don’t have to eat all of it, but I just want you to have something in your stomach”
Keying nodded as she continued to eat, still taking small bites, before she put the bowl down
“I’m full”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Okay”
Keying then let out a yawn before she leaned against him, causing him to look down at her in surprise before he chuckled softly and reached over, gently petting her hair, just as Chen Yuzhi stepped into the house
“Sorry I’m late”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him and shook his head
“Don’t apologize”
Chen Yuzhi then looked at Keying and smiled softly before he walked over to them and carefully scooped Keying into his arms, pressing a gentle kiss to her hair before he looked at Jiang Yuelou
“I’m going to go put her down”
Jiang Yuelou nodded, Chen Yuzhi nodding in reply before he headed to Keying’s bedroom to lay her down while Jiang Yuelou cleaned up
After he had cleaned up and Chen Yuzhi had put Keying down for a nap, they both walked over to the couch, neither man saying anything before Chen Yuzhi let out a soft sigh
“Thank you, Jiang Yuelou, really”
Jiang Yuelou looked over at him before he shook his head
“It’s not a problem”
Chen Yuzhi then laughed softly
“It’s just…it’s been just us for so long that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to…have a support system.  And someone to turn to when times get…hard”
Jiang Yuelou frowned
“It’s just been you two?”
Chen Yuzhi looked over at him and nodded
“Mm.  Our parents died when Keying was young, so…I’ve been raising her all by myself”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him in shock
“By yourself?  Without any help?”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“Yes, which is why I’m really grateful to you.  Not just for looking out for Keying but for…being willing to eat dinner or lunch with us and just…spend time with us.  It’s nice…for it to not just always be us”
Jiang Yuelou was quiet before he smiled slightly
“I’m grateful to you and Keying as well…I haven’t known what it’s like to share a meal with someone in a very long time”
Chen Yuzhi frowned
“What do you mean?”
Jiang Yuelou smiled sadly
“Well…like you, my parents are no longer around.  My mother left when I was eleven and my dad died when I was twelve.  So…I’ve been on my own for a while”
Chen Yuzhi gasped softly
“Jiang Yuelou”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head
“It’s okay”
He then laughed
“You know what’s funny?  I never noticed it, but after spending time with you and Keying, I realized…that I’m very lonely”
He then looked over at Chen Yuzhi and smiled
“But I’m not lonely anymore.  So thank you”
Chen Yuzhi blinked before he blushed slightly and nodded
“You’re welcome”
Silence then fell over them before Jiang Yuelou hummed
“You know…”
Chen Yuzhi looked over at him and raised an eyebrow as he smiled slightly
“…you’re doing a good job”
Chen Yuzhi blinked
“What?”
Jiang Yuelou laughed
“With Keying.  She’s growing well, she’s always smiling and laughing, she’s healthy, she loves spending time with you…”
He then looked at him
“You’re doing a good job.  You’re a good older brother”
Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened before they began to fill with tears, causing Jiang Yuelou’s eyes to widen in shock
“Yuzhi!  Shit, did I say something wrong?!”
Chen Yuzhi laughed softly and shook his head as he wiped his eyes, only the tears wouldn’t stop falling
“No, no, it’s just…I haven’t had anyone say that to me.  And I…I guess I never realized how much I needed to hear it”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he reached out and pulled him against him, Chen Yuzhi freezing before he turned and buried his face in his shoulder, letting out a soft sob
Jiang Yuelou smiled softly and hugged him tightly, gently rubbing his back until he calmed down, both men soon pulling away from each other
“Sorry”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head as he reached up and gently wiped away his tears with his thumbs
“No, no, don’t apologize”
Silence then fell over them before Chen Yuzhi cleared his throat
“Um…Christmas is coming up in a few weeks.  Maybe…you’d like to get tang yuan together?  The three of us?”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him in surprise before he smiled
“Yeah…I’d like that”
After that, a few weeks passed in a flash and soon it was Christmas, but when Jiang Yuelou woke up that day…he felt awful
‘Why today…why today of all days…’
He then slowly pushed himself up and slipped out a bed, heading to the bathroom to get ready before he headed out of the bathroom and over to the phone, dialing a number before he placed it to his ear
“Hello?”
“Chen Yuzhi”
“Jiang Yuelou?!  Are you alright?  You sound awful”
Jiang Yuelou laughed weakly before he coughed, a horrible sound to his ears
“I think I’ve caught a cold.  So, I won’t be able to eat tang yuan with you and Keying this Christmas.  Sorry”
Chen Yuzhi hummed softly
“Well, let me come over and give you some medicine.  We don’t want your cold to get worst”
Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widened slightly before he frowned
“Are you sure?  I don’t want you to get sick”
Chen Yuzhi laughed
“I’ll be okay.  I’ll be over in a little bit, okay?”
Jiang Yuelou hummed
“Okay”
He then hung up the phone, letting out a soft cough just as there was a knock at his door, making him look up in surprise before he walked over to it and opened it to find Chen Yuzhi standing outside, his kit in hand
“Took you no time to get here”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“Well, I do live just down the street”
Jiang Yuelou laughed and nodded
“Yeah.  Come in”
He then stepped aside, allowing Chen Yuzhi into the house, just as Xiao Bai walked over to him
“Hello Xiao Bai”
Chen Yuzhi then paused and knelt down, giving Xiao Bai a fond scritch under the chin before he pushed himself to his feet and motioned to the couch
“Please”
Jiang Yuelou nodded and walked over to the couch, sitting down as Chen Yuzhi sat down beside him, opening up his kit before he grabbed his penlight and turned to look at Jiang Yuelou
“Open”
Jiang Yuelou nodded and opened his mouth, Chen Yuzhi gently grasping his face in his hand before he looked in his mouth and his eyes
“Your throat’s inflamed and your eyes are red…you definitely have a cold”
He then placed his penlight down before he reached out and gently placed the back of his hand to Jiang Yuelou’s forehead, humming softly
“And a slight fever”
Jiang Yuelou then sighed
“I’m sorry…I ruined our plans”
Chen Yuzhi tsked as he lowered his hand
“Don’t say that.  You didn’t do anything wrong”
He then smiled slightly
“We can always get tang yuan when you feel better”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“Okay”
Chen Yuzhi then looked at him
“Why don’t you go lay down?  Sleep is good for helping you recover”
Jiang Yuelou laughed
“Doctor’s orders?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“Doctor’s orders”
Jiang Yuelou nodded before he pushed himself to his feet and headed towards his bedroom, Chen Yuzhi watching him leave before he looked down at Xiao Bai, who had padded over to him, and smiled
“Looks like it’s just you and me, Xiao Bai”
A few hours later, when Jiang Yuelou woke up from his nap, he found himself feeling much better than when he woke up that morning, causing him to hum softly before he slipped out of bed and headed into the living room, his eyes widening at the smell of something delicious wafting through his house
‘What—’
Just then, Chen Yuzhi came out of the kitchen, a warm pot of stew in his hands
“Oh, you’re awake!”
Jiang Yuelou blinked
“You’re…still here”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“Of course I am.  I wouldn’t just leave”
He then placed the pot down before he looked at Jiang Yuelou
“Figured you hadn’t eaten so…I made you something.  I hope that’s okay”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“No, it’s…it’s great.  Thank you”
He then tilted his head
“What about Keying?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“A neighbor’s watching her.  She wanted to come visit you, but I know you probably didn’t want to make her sick so I asked a neighbor to watch her”
Jiang Yuelou hummed
“I see”
Chen Yuzhi then motioned to the pot
“Shall we?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded before he walked over to the dining table and sat down, Chen Yuzhi sitting down across from him before they both began to eat, Jiang Yuelou humming softly in content
“This is really good, Yuzhi”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“Thank you.  It’s what I make whenever Keying isn’t feeling well…so I thought you might like it”
Jiang Yuelou smiled
“I do.  I really like it”
Chen Yuzhi blushed
“I’m glad”
They then went back to eating when Jiang Yuelou looked at Chen Yuzhi
“Yuzhi”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him
“Hmm?”
“New Years.  For New Years, we’ll go eat tang yuan.  Okay?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled and nodded
“Okay”
After they finished eating, Jiang Yuelou helped Chen Yuzhi clean up before Chen Yuzhi packed up his kit and headed to the door, Jiang Yuelou following after him
“Thank you, Yuzhi.  Really”
Chen Yuzhi turned to look at him before he smiled
“You looked after Keying when she wasn’t feeling good…the least I could do was return the favor”
Jiang Yuelou chuckled and nodded, Chen Yuzhi flashing him a small smile before he turned, about to leave when Jiang Yuelou reached out and grasped his wrist
“Chen Yuzhi”
Chen Yuzhi paused and turned to look at him
“Hmm?”
Jiang Yuelou didn’t say anything and instead just stared at him for a moment before he gave his wrist a tug and pulled him close, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips
As their lips touched, Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened and he let out a soft noise of surprise as Jiang Yuelou quickly pulled away, shaking his head
“Sorry.  Um…I don’t know what came over me.  Must…be the cold”
Chen Yuzhi blinked and shook his head
“No, I—”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head as he took a step back
“Sorry.  Can you…can you just go?”
Chen Yuzhi frowned
“Jiang Yuelou—”
Jiang Yuelou shook his head
“Please”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he nodded and turned, heading out of the house as Jiang Yuelou quietly shut the door behind him and groaned
God damn it
When Chen Yuzhi returned home, he thanked the neighbor for their time before he walked over to the couch and sat down, placing his head in his hands as Keying looked at him
“Gege?  Is everything okay?  Is gege okay?”
Chen Yuzhi lifted his head out of his hands and nodded
“Jiang Yuelou’s fine”
He then sighed
“But I don’t…think he’ll be coming over to eat with us anymore”
Keying frowned
“Why?  Did you two fight?”
Chen Yuzhi shook his head
“I wouldn’t call it a fight…”
Keying’s frown deepened
“Then why won’t he come over?”
Chen Yuzhi was quiet before he sighed
“He’s going to be busy with the New Year coming up…so he can’t eat with us”
Keying blinked before she nodded
“Oh, okay”
Chen Yuzhi smiled weakly and nodded before he sighed softly
He hated lying to Keying, but it was the only way to prevent her from having her heart broken
And it was just a little lie…no harm, no foul
Over the next few weeks, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi hardly saw each other, mainly because Jiang Yuelou did his best to change his patrol routes so that he didn’t bump into Chen Yuzhi on the way and made sure to either go home early or go home late so that he wouldn’t bump into him or Keying either
And it worked…for a while
Until it was finally New Year’s day and Jiang Yuelou was out on a last minute patrol
It was weird, being probably the only person out and about while everyone was at home with either their family or their lover, counting down to the new year
But apparently, he wasn’t the only one out and about because as he was patrolling, he noticed a familiar figure with a doctor’s bag walking towards him
“Chen Yuzhi?”
At his name, the figure looked up before their eyes widened
“Jiang Yuelou!”
They then walked towards each other until they were standing before each other, Jiang Yuelou shaking his head
“What are you doing out?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled weakly
“Last minute house call…what about you?”
“Last minute patrol”
Chen Yuzhi hummed as Jiang Yuelou dipped his head
“I’m sorry, I’m making you late.  Excuse me”
He then began to walk past him when Chen Yuzhi turned towards him
“I didn’t hate it, you know”
Jiang Yuelou paused and turned to look back at him
“Didn’t hate what?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled slightly
“The kiss”
Jiang Yuelou’s eyes widened as he nodded
“I was surprised, sure, but…I didn’t hate it”
Jiang Yuelou blinked before he sighed
“I’m sorry…I shouldn’t…I shouldn’t have done it without asking you”
Chen Yuzhi tilted his head
“Why did you?  Kiss me?”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him before he cleared his throat
“Because I like you”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him in shock
“You…like me?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“I do.  And then I went and did that and I…I was afraid that I had just ruined a friendship that I really liked.  So that’s why I told you to leave that day”
Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he smiled slightly and took a step towards him, looking him in the eyes
“Lovers can be friends too”
Jiang Yuelou looked at him in surprise
“You—”
Chen Yuzhi smiled
“I like you too, Jiang Yuelou”
Jiang Yuelou stared at him with wide eyes before he reached up and cupped his face in his hands
“Can I?”
Chen Yuzhi smiled slightly
“I thought you’d never ask”
Jiang Yuelou grinned before he leaned forward and captured Chen Yuzhi’s lips with his, Chen Yuzhi letting out a soft sigh as he practically melted into the kiss, just as church bells began to gong, making them pull away and look around with wide eyes before they looked at each other and smiled
“Happy New Year, Yuzhi”
“Happy New Year, Yuelou”
Jiang Yuelou then tilted his head
“Do you still want to get tang yuan?  Since we did promise?”
Chen Yuzhi blinked before he grinned
“Sure.  The three of us?”
Jiang Yuelou nodded
“The three of us”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“Okay”
They both then flashed each other fond smiles before they turned and headed in the opposite directions; Chen Yuzhi towards his house call and Jiang Yuelou towards the rest of his patrol
Later that morning, when the sun was shining and people were actually up and about, Jiang Yuelou, Chen Yuzhi, and Keying were sitting at a tang yuan stall, enjoying the sweet treat, when Keying looked over at Jiang Yuelou
“Did you make any wishes for the New Year, gege?”
Jiang Yuelou hummed
“I didn’t…did you?”
Keying nodded vigorously
“I did!”
Chen Yuzhi tilted her head
“Oh yeah?  What did you wish for?”
Keying grinned
“For the three of us to do this again next year!”
Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi looked at her in surprise before they looked at each other and smiled softly, Jiang Yuelou reaching over to take Chen Yuzhi’s hand in his
“That sounds nice”
Chen Yuzhi nodded
“It does”
They then went back to eating their tang yuan, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi holding each other’s hand tightly as the sounds of the city went on around them
They both hoped that they would get to do this again next year
And the year after that
And all of the years that followed
Just the three of them
Together
