(In the TARDIS)
Flip: Doctor? Doctor! I...I feel weird.
Six: What? No... Flip! You're... You're fading out!
Flip: What's happening to me? Doctor I'm sorry...
Six: She's gone. One morning and then she's vanished already. That's a record, even for me.

Lady Christina : Series Two
This one felt way less entertaining than the first one, but the fact of having an overall plot in the series helped a lot, it was great to see Christina's dad back causing mayhem and all the characters work incredibly well together. It reallys hows in the last episode how well they all fit together. This last one was really well executed and has great rythm.
I'm not sure I care much about Christina's character enough for her own series, even though it actually is good.
Anyway, this one is worth a listen!

I'm board. My predictions for Nemesis 4 under the cut.
(Also it's been out like... 20 years 💀 but spoiler for one of the Sarah Jane Smith audios)
1. Osgate are gonna have a fight
2. Osgate may share a cell
3. Kate is going to deck a time lord (this one's not a prediction, I just think Kate deserves to)
4. Kates gonna get shot. I don't mean shot at, that's a given, I mean SHOT. They did it to Sarah Jane Smith, they aren't above doing it to Kate and Nemesis has already been rough af on her so it's not a massive stretch.
5. Kate will free the remaining Vulpreen in the void world.
6. This will be the last Unit audio 😭
6.2. Because we're gonna get a spin off 🥳🥳🥳🥳
6.3. But it does mean well loose my baby boi Vikram (if we haven't already given he's not really been in Nemesis 😭) 🥺
6.4 And John Dorney's damn good writing if the spin off show doesn't take him on board as one of the writers 😭😭😭 He knows the craic. He knows the kind of actiony angsty bull shit I'm into 🥺 and he writes Kate and Osgood SO WELL! 😭 THEY HAVE DEPTH IN HIS AND THE OTHER BIG FINISH UNIT WRITERS HANDS 🥺🥺🥺

did they say in the audio that he's aro too or did they just say he experiences romantic attraction but not anything else? sorry i have no money to buy the boxset lol
he declared he feels nothing of the sorts! they explain the differences between someone who feels romantic and more sexual attraction, and then River is like "oh doctor! you told me you feel nothing of the sorts! you are looking for someone who doesn't have romantic feelings in particular abd here you are!"
(because River and him talked earlier about them being husbands and wife of course, and he was like "a wife??? me??? not now or ever! I don't do that sort of stuff! couple things that is")
so then when he looks for someone who does not feel romantic attraction to save the day later, river makes him realise that's him! so he uses that to win the day!
so yeah!!! offical aromantic doctor!!!!
hoped i explained it well hehe

Just so you know, you can’t ship NineRose romantically. Nine is canonically Aromantic.
sorry i don’t take things as canon if they’re written by the same guy who wrote river song sexually assaulting five.
partly joking but not really. the way big finish wrote this story has one episode call the doctor aro (by john dorney, mentioned above), and have him solve the problem of the episode with his lack of romantic attraction, and two episodes later (by tim foley, who i also have beef with) basically has nine and river call their relationship romantic.
i know being aromantic is a spectrum and something complicated and different to each individual, and i would love it if the show (or surrounding media) made an effort to explore this with the doctor, but i. don't think it's done super well here. like. on one hand it could be saying nine didn't love rose*, which i dislike and also goes against what we see in the show, or it could be saying he needed to just Meet The Right Person, which i also dislike for very obvious reasons. and either way you slice it, it confirms the doctor has feelings in the future for river (which i agree with) but it basically says the only reason the doctor doesn’t have those feelings Now is because he’s aro (with the implication of “aro For Now”). not because he. yknow. just met her. or he just got out of the time war and he hates himself. dorney just kind of bungles it, which is very disappointing because nineriver could be such an interesting dynamic, romantic or not.
i guess i just do fundamentally disagree that the doctor’s sexuality really changes all that much body to body so it really ends up feeling like “he just hasn’t Met The Right Person Yet”.
*if you personally don't think this love is romantic then that's totally fine! if you prefer to read them as queerplatonic partners or what have you then you absolutely should. personally i do think it's romantic love -- specifically allegorical queer romantic love, given how it's written in the show -- and i don't think it's a moral wrong to read it that way.
tl;dr i dislike this writer and how he handled nine and river's relationship and i think how he handled nine's romantic attraction (or lack thereof) specifically in Swipe Right really kind of sucks. that story alone contradicts the doctor being aromantic by saying that they feel romantic attraction in the future, and then the third episode in the set by foley also contradicts the doctor being aro in the present. i know stuff with sexuality can change over time, but that doesn't really feel like what was being done here. it feels more like the stereotypical thing a lot of media does that basically says aromanticism has to be fixed or is a temporary thing.
i also think telling people they can't say two characters were in gay love because of a pseudocanon side story most people have not listened to and costs a lot of money is a weird way to interact with people you don't know on the internet. i like romantic readings of doctorrose and doctorriver, sue me.

Okay but the doubly great thing about the “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without plum pudding” reference is that these audios come before Chimes, yes? And the story is centred around a man seeing echoes of an event that hasn’t happened yet.
The reference is more than a joke; it’s Charley sensing an echo of what’s coming, and therefore, it’s perfectly plausible that she’d say the quote and have no idea why.

River: I need to find someone to take his place at dinner.
Maître d': But the table is for him, n'est-ce pas?
River: Oh, that's exactly what everyone's supposed to think, but the Doctor isn't dining today.
Maître d': Oh, poor Sir! First he is shot, then disrobed, then he does not get to experience the menu. Is it possible his day could get any worse?

Lady Christina : Series One
I love Christina's character but honestly I am not really fond of this boxset. I really liked the spy bits, but as soon as it comes to action parts I just don't get with it. However, I'm looking forward to series two, since I still like the concept a lot, it's just that I think it was badly executed most of the time. I'll do a story per story review, because they are really different from each other, so it is way more interesting to talk about them individually.
Tumblr media
It Takes a Thief
I really liked this story, it is all about spying, aristocracy, DRAMATICALLY JUMPING OFF A CLIFF... Everything you could ask for in a Lady Christina story
Skin Deep
It was nice to learn that Sylvia Noble actually had a heart and I also liked the side story with Christina's relationship to her father.
Otherwise I didn't like this Adiposelike story since it is hard to feel stressed by a threat that only concerns rich people
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Portrait of a Lady
My favourite story, I really like Sam' character and his duo with LadyC. Leon and Lucy were very funny characters as well as the Sontaran. It gets really messy in the second half, but this remains a pretty fun and entertaining story
Death on the Mile
Very good start but as soon as the Slitheens show up it gets very very messy, one volcano was more than enough but two????? Most of the time the jokes aren't that funny, this is probably my least favourite story from this boxset

I forgot how good The Diary Of River Song: Series 2 is. Five Twenty-Nine just remains one of my favourite stories they've produced.
