If you had the opportunity to have some voice actors casted for your iterations of Lois, Clark, Jimmy, Connor, Lex, Livewire, Rudy, and Brainiac (Basically the superman characters you've remixed so far) who would be perfect casting for each?
OOH YES here's some fancasts for my remix:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
David Corenswet as Clark Kent! This is a really hard pick for me, I'm attached to Tim Daly's STAS voice for him but if I had to pick someone younger I guess this David Corenswet guy from the upcoming film looks pretty good? At least from clips I've seen of him he's got a good voice.
Brianne Tju as Lois Liando! She's a Chinese Indonesian actress and while she's young I think she's got the range. I'd love to see her twist on Dana Delaney's STAS performance because Delaney's got a fantastic hardened sassy woman voice. Tju's voice sounds great in this interview.
Haley Tju as Lucy Lane! Brianne has a sister which is PERFECT for Lois' sister Lucy! I heard Hayley's voice in Arlo the Alligator Boy as the tiger cat character and I think she sounds neat.
Michael J Woodard as Jimmy Olsen! Similarly as Haley I heard Woodard's voice on Arlo the Alligator Boy, he's the lead there as Arlo. His voice is high energy and fun! Plus he can SING which is great because I imagine Jimmy as a jack of all trades artist and shenanigans coupled with musical numbers would be perfection.
Dave Fennoy as Lex Luthor! This is locked and loaded for me. It frustrates me that no one has seen the vision here. This is the second coming of STAS Lex but BETTER. Just!! Listen to him as Bluebeard from the Wolf Among Us. This is phenomenal, the perfect voice already exists.
Toks Olagundoye as Lena Luthor! She's voiced Martha Wayne in Batman Unburied, and Cat Grant in Reign of Supermen among many roles. She'd bring the elegance Lena would need. I love her accent,,,
Donald Glover as Conner Kent/Luthor! Granted I would love a teen that can bring what he brought to Marshall Lee on Adventure Time but that performance is the Conner energy I want.
Gr33dyjay/Jhas Ean Prescott Corbitt as Rudy Jones/Parasite! While I love the Brion James' STAS voice for Parasite, I have become attached to Gr33dyjay's take on my version of Parasite. If you can bring a performance that can make me laugh like that, you're golden. If he brought just a bit of New York accent into it, even better.
ProZD/Sungwon Cho and Ellen McLain as Brainiac! I want these two to talk interchangeably and in synchronization for Brainiac. Cho serving Brau1589 realness and McLain bringing the GlaDOS good stuff. Heaven would open its gates if we ever heard a Brainiac voice like this, I believe that.
Nicole Sullivan as Livewire! This one is so, so difficult because the original Lori Petty voice for Livewire is essentially perfection. I think future takes need to find a distinct and youtuber bombastic charismatic voice for making a potentially unlikeable character fun to watch. Sullivan famously voices Shego on Kim Possible, and I think her voice has the uniqueness and sass that could revitalize Livewire. She just needs to do a version of the accent and energy.
AJ Michalka as Kara Zor El! I know Michalka's voice as Stevonnie on Steven Universe and Catra from She-Ra. I like her performance in both, it stands out and the lil rasp in her voice adds something. That gives Kara that kind of jaded world weary but still young voice. I know I haven't drawn Supergirl yet, but I've got plans.
Thanks for this ask! While I'm not familiar with tinsel town people in general, this was like a fun scavenger hunt, haha.

1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 12, and 25 for Kara!! I’m genuinely curious about this
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
I THINK SHES SO NEAT... cradling her in my hands. i like a girl with anger issues and also with immigrant metaphors. i want to put her in a bucket and study her with a magnifying glass like a bug
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
i think her dissonance about expecting to be older than clark but then being actually baby is so fun. and her immigrant metaphors and her tragedy are SO compelling to me. but i also really, really love that her grief turns to rage. the way she is so compassionate and also so fundamentally angry is just. YEAH!!! i LOVE that in a girl go ham fuck shit up!!!!
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
i'm honestly of two minds about the thing where they state she's significantly stronger than clark. it isn't really explained why (at least in sg2005?) (like, he's been under a yellow sun far longer than her at that point, what makes her different? how does every other kryptonian from kandor stack up in this powerscale? etc) and without any real basis, to me it just feels like a haha #girlboss thing where they were like well a woman can't be interesting if she's not physically the most powerful ever. unlike other women, this one kicks ass!!!!
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
acknowledging that she's got some REAL fruity vibes going on with several of the other girls she's interacted with 😳
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
generic girlbossification again and also just... not knowing anything about her i guess. like i get it, keeping track of it all with like linda danvers vs linda lang vs kara danvers (why is this her name in current canon btw. :/) etc can be confusing esp if you don't actually know where to start and just know kara, like, exists, but also. you know.
OH. ACTUALLY A SPECIFIC i have seen multiple posts in the last few weeks thinking she's significantly older than kon??? she is not!!! they're the same age (in postcrisis anyway idk whats going on in rebirth and frankly neither does dc i think)!!!! that's the whole reason she takes his death so hard!!! thats a member of her family her own age and he just died!!! like nearly every other person she's ever had!!
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
she also has the house of el family curls. she does not really care that much about her appearance though so she just kinda brushes them out and lets her hair be just the wavy "this could be curls but isn't" floof instead. also, it's a kinda brighter yellow than natural blonde hair (it's natural for kryptonians, but...!) the same way her eyes, like the rest of the kryptonians, are more luminous than normal human eyes. people tend to assume she dyed it.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
my first impression was actually of mae kent because i didn't know the difference between all the supergirls and i was just reading sb94 alskdjf and then i looked it up and went Oh. this is more complicated than i thought. and it was a little intimidating for a second, but then i just went fuck it and started reading supergirl 2005. first impression of THAT was "oh jesus christ i hate men" because. well. look at the beginning of that thing. BUT when it picks up it picks UP and my god... cradles kara gently in my hands. i love her so much. she contains multitudes.

Ways Supergirl could have incorporated more of the Brainiacs instead of having Lex as one of the main villains for 3 seasons in a row:
first of all, definitely could have done more with Indigo- she was only in 3 episodes, and got ripped in half at the end of season 1. Like, they had her in the season 5 trailer, and for what? I really think it would have been fun to have her as a main villain without Non at some point, and make her her own distinct threat with a connection to Kara. And she easily could have been rebuilt (maybe she caught the attention of Cadmus at some point? or Lex did it), whether still played by Laura Vandervoort or maybe even played by Meaghan Rath or someone else. Also she was included in the Supergirl Rebirth run as one of the Fatal Five, I think it would’ve been neat to see that, maybe in the final season.
Second, they definitely could have brought Vril Dox from the Adventures of Supergirl comic into the show at some point! He is a bit different from Indigo in that he looks more like a traditional Brainiac (green skin, blond hair) and is stated as being from the planet Yod in the comic. They could have easily explained those differences, and maybe included him as a one-off/couple episode villain in season 2, or as part of a larger arc like the comic did, alongside Psi (who was introduced in season 3, albeit portrayed differently), Rampage, and Facet. He could have even maybe brought Indigo back to life, that would have been neat.
Third, remember when they did a whole version of Red Son and never introduced Brainiac at all, even though he was definitely in the comic influencing Red Son Superman after Superman initially defeats him? It might have been tricky to adapt, but it does feel like a missed opportunity, and maybe they could have even done a “Brainiac is operating in the past and the future” thing and done something there with Winn and the Legion, or even had a whole episode set in the future with Kara going to help the Legion fight Brainiac. Or if not Brainiac for rights reasons, someone else in the family. I don’t know, there’s a lot of them.
Fourth (did not do this on purpose) but this show definitely did strongly imply that Brainy’s mom was Brainiac 4, what with her not raising him right and teaching him to bottle planets. We absolutely could have seen her in season 5 as the leader of Leviathan, doing what they do in the show and being a shadowy figure, and then formally introducing herself in the finale when Brainy was dying, taking him from the Leviathan ship just as the Super-friends got there and brainwashing him/turning him against them like Metallo Lena did in the 100th episode. Not saying that because I totally did at least the first part in a fanfic once. Just think it could have been cool.
Finally, alternately, Brainiac 4 could have been the villain in the Phantom Zone instead of Nyxly? Like she got stuck there, maybe trying to go back in time because she sensed somehow that her son was uninhibited and she wanted to use that in some way, and maybe she would have had to pass herself off to Kara as a trustworthy figure but of course reveal herself as evil by the end and escape the Phantom Zone without our heroes knowing to become the villain for the rest of the season. Would probably have not gotten into a relationship with Lex in this scenario, and if she did, she would have only done it to get close enough to him to kill him or something. Or if Lex wasn’t there, it would have been neat to see her maybe turn Zor-El into a cyborg and set him against Kara and the team.

Longer Thoughts About The Flash 2023 Now That I Have Slept Once
Tumblr media
Non-spoiler thoughts first, just because.
I think the average moviegoer will have fun with it, because like. Even I was pleasantly surprised (kind of) about how the movie actually went. Christina Hodson is a really good writer, and the fact that she was able to get something coherent and in brief flashes even compelling out of such BROKEN foundational material is a real testament to her abilities. If you're really just looking for a kind of entertaining time travel movie with familiar beats, this will be good for you.
I think, ultimately, I was never really sold on the premise of the movie to begin with, so it was hard for me to fully enjoy it as a DC fan. It's a very controversial storyline to tackle as a First Flash Film, it's not very easy to adapt to begin with, and as a piece of the DCEU or even the broader spectrum of the DC Multiverse it's even more controversial in many ways because of the broader context of the franchise it finds itself in. There are so many pieces both in the movie and outside of the movie that can't just let it BE a Flash movie, which I think really kills any hope of it being above mid to me at the end of the day.
Anyway Reader Beware Spoilers Under There
This just a highlight reel of random thoughts I had during the movie itself:
As much as I hate how many non-Flash characters get time in this movie, I will never be sad about seeing Jeremy Irons Alfred or Gal Gadot Wonder Woman, thank you for your service y'all enjoy your future projects.
The very FIRST second Barry went into the Speed Force I was like "oh that's neat" and then the REST of the Speed Force happened and I haven't physically cringed as hard since Emma Watson's autotune in Beauty and the Beast.
I can't believe they found a way to make Batfleck's suit both better AND worse than the DKR suit from the Snyder films. Also I take back everything I said about Batfleck being one of the best Batmen we never got, I don't know if it was just the writing or the performance he went with here but I think it's better this way I donot want to see Batfleck again.
I desperately want to send Kiersey Clemmons a really nice gift basket or a card because this was the most SET DRESSING ONLY Iris West they could have gone with. The DCEU has done her so dirty. The only reason Iris is here is because people would be in arms if she didn't show up ONCE. And I'm so mad about it, actually.
I'm actually glad the movie didn't just pretend Cyborg was never in JL-- I was glad he at least got mentioned in the search for the other JL members.
Speaking of, thank you to this movie for sneaking in a little Arthur in there at the end. I hope he and Barry had fun at their slumber party.
I actually really loved their Supergirl here, too-- she's much better than the Supergirl from the CW, she feels a lot more like Kara should, and I really hope for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, they bring back Sasha Calle, because as little as she gets to work with, she's very good in her role.
I don't wanna talk about Michael Keaton too much because I frankly still disagree with the amount of Batmen we have in this movie, but he's still fun to watch and still really good and I'm mad about it but I commend him.
Also, speaking of Batmen, I think the funniest thing this movie could have possibly done was only imply Batfleck and Batkeaton and ONLY show Clooney Bruce at the end. That cameo got the BIGGEST reaction out of ANYTHING in this movie, AND IT DESERVED IT.
I would have liked one Flash villain. Just one. Maybe in that opening sequence we could have had like a Trickster or a Top or a Rainbow Raider or a Girder. Someone who isn't going to get their own main villain billing ever but who would have made this Flash movie feel more like a Flash movie.
I think that's all I have for now BUT as I think on it more I'm sure I'll have more thoughts.

4) what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
There's a Lucifer/SuperCorp crossover fic that I have half-done, I think 3 or 4 chapters and I had/have an anon that was really excited for it but I haven't published any of it yet. I fear it's not good enough and the more time that passes the less confident I am in the story. I think I posted a snippet ages ago but good luck finding it
11) what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general?
I wrote a scene at a gala where Lena and Wonder Woman are discussing art and I wrote a throwaway line about art forgery. I had t do a little research about actual forgery methods and I ended up learning a lot. I actually bought a book on it later. And I worry probably more than I should.
29) give us a spoiler for one of your stories.
Does a snippet of an unpublished story count?
I will do everything in my power to stop you. Just like I would any other villain.
Kara had wanted to take the words back the moment they had left her mouth. Whatever combination of words (if they even existed) that might have helped to bridge the distance that had sprung up between Lena and her, those certainly hadn’t been the right ones. Nor had it been the kind of firm warning that might have coaxed Lena off the dangerous ledge she had been walking since stealing Myriad from the fortress. They had been an ultimatum and a cruel one at that.
58) what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were writing it?
Music! I like to include a song for most every chapter of what I'm writing and I'm always tinkering with playlists while I write.

1-5, 8!
hi thea!! thank u so much for asking!!
1. Who is your favorite character to write for, & is this the character you find easiest to write for?
my favorite character to write at the moment is Eopie (i'm not doing that much writing rn i just rotate her in my mind on the daily). idk if she's the easiest to write for, but there aren't a lot of characters that i find hard to write.
2. What is your favorite fic of yours?
omg omg i have so many!! but my favorite fic i've published is the loser chat. 😊 i just have a soft spot for mjeted silliness & i love being able to go ham & write for myself.
3. What fic of yours do you think is underrated?
idk!! i don't really have a lot out there, so it's not like there's a large volume of work getting swept under the rug. but honestly, i feel like my supergirl fic could use a smidge more love. it's a silly little two-part series about Kara coming out as herself & as Supergirl (this was before season 5) & i just think it's neat!!
4. What fic of yours were you surprised by how popular it was?
again, i don't have that many published fics, but i'd probably say my Spider-Man fics?? they're not the most popular but a lot of people like them, and i regularly get kudos emails even when i haven't updated in a while. i didn't really expect them to get that much attention, but i'm happy they bring people joy🥰
[i already answered 5!!]
8. Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorrect it into your fics?
i actually don't know about this one. i do take inspiration from my own experiences, especially for smaller details, but there isn't anything in particular that comes to mind.
[linking my ao3 here so y'all can check it out!!]

hayley & jacinda. and vanessa. yaaa. whew okay for jacinda like she gives up her daughter because she believes it is the best thing for her, and I think it would be such an interesting dynamic.
jo k. & jacinda. mom friends. i also think emma s. i think they could really help each other. sylvie. more friends.
isabella & layla/bellamy/spencer/rachel. this is about parents. this is about mental illness. this is about not being trusted.

lizzie & lydia. also aurora and lydia. i think these could be a dream come true for me.
nicki & elsa. maybe their medical student runs overlap idk. they have such different personalities i think it would be very interesting to see. theo. i see no reason why they wouldn't overlap sometimes because hospital/first responder stuff.

Ongoing Mix
I’m watching the titanic anime collection. To keep it rotating and avoid going nuts, the rules I’m following are
The list of what I’m watching is a set. The list of all the anime is the collection.
When I finish a set I shuffle the set list and add a show from the collection to the end of the list.
When I finish one season of a show I shuffle it back into the collection from the set. Otherwise the set will get really long as all of the multi-season series come into it. This way it can’t get longer than 26 and will probably usually vary between 15 and 20.
Right now the shows I’m watching are:
Hayate the Combat Butler is slow-burn on the romance, fast with the comedy, and referential with its humor in a way that sadly dated  it pretty quick. There are a lot of jokes that don’t land because I wasn’t living in Japan when it came out. Still pretty enjoyable, but if you don’t like romance tropes like “girl is at once a hopeless romantic and also violently jealous” and “boy is painfully oblivious about girl’s feelings” it’ll grate on you.
Full Metal Panic is one I’m consistently glad to have come to the front of the line. It’s very, very intentional with its timing and mood. The male lead is oblivious to social norms but it’s not a gag; They don’t just tell but show you how he got that way, and you also see that he’s learning and improving. I could sing this show’s praises for another few pages but there’s a lot more shows to cover.
Urara Meirochou is fun, but weirdly creepy? It reads like it was made for 10-13 year old girls and the 30-something-year-old dudes who take upskirt shots of them in the subway. I love the plotline and premise. The episode structure is too blocked-out for my taste, if that makes sense? Sailor Moon Season 1 mixed it up more with its pacing.
Karas is a 2-OAV “series” that is basically a movie. It is very, very directed. Loads of symbolism, careful shots, just generally a sense that the director really subscribes to the “every frame a painting” school of direction. The violence wavers between gratuitous and necessary-to-plot, but in part I think they were just proud/pleased that they were really starting to get a handle on the whole computer graphics/anime composite thing and were interested in showing off. Personally I find that less annoying than “I wanted to show you someone’s guts.”
Nyaruko: Crawling with Love! is heavy on extremely weird humor - some of it occult and some of it 4th-wall and some of it “other” - but recently there have been occasional glimpses of a genuine romantic interest as opposed to “I want you and I’m willing to do anything - including ignore your wishes - to get you” that is way too common in romance anime.
Cardcaptor Sakura is finally coming toward the end of season 1. The antagonist, if you can call her that, is being foreshadowed more and more and if I recall the series from seeing it way back she won’t even be the main trial of the season. Such an interesting series, for all the ways it was and wasn’t blazing trails for equality.
Earth Girl Arjuna is really interesting to watch because they’re willing to have a completely different pace - indeed, to tell a completely different kind of story - from episode to episode. This can make it a little off-putting but also keeps you from settling in and just letting it drift by you. Also I like how the main character almost immediately has superior firepower to her enemies but that doesn’t help because “her enemies” are in many cases surrounding a lot of collateral people and also she’s not always sure that defeating is better than comprehending.
Kanokon continues to be a disappointment; a story with a bunch of neat spirit characters getting up to mischief should have been a hit with me and then they have all these sexualized characters they say are in their teens but they draw like they’re eight. I’m going to finish watching it, but it’s more out of stubbornness than enjoyment. I’m not saying there’s nothing to like. There are indeed spirits getting up to mischief. But it’s less fun than it could be.
Modern Magic Made Simple has a neat premise and is willing to bounce around with its plots. I’m not sure whether telling a bunch of stuff in flashback form is a good or terrible idea when time travel is clearly also involved. I guess we’ll find out by the end of the season.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (S2) is well out of the “trials in a new world” phase of its story and into the “eternal flexing on everyone” phase. The titular slime’s peers and rivals are much more powerful to try and keep up but the “villain” has to go in quotes because nobody likes him and he’s clearly less powerful than everyone else in the discussion. Sure he’s awful, but you’re not, like, concerned about him. He’s walking proof that evil without actually having more power than the heroes at some point in the story just isn’t enough.
Medaka Box Speaking of overpowered protagonists...This is kind of like a slower and more romantic Kill La Kill? There’s something about the way the characters are presented that’s very reminiscent. But the joke is Medaka being good at everything. The stylized presentation has kept that premise from getting old for two episodes so far. We’ll see whether it lasts to the end of the season.
Rewrite is firmly in the “what the hell is going on” genre of anime. It’s compounded a bit by awkward and not-quite-believable moments of people holding their tongue when they shouldn’t. But its worldbuilding is both convoluted and clearly well-considered, which is a tough mix to pull off. Also I don’t think it’s what they were going for but the end credit sequence accidentally delivers the message that for all their differences the 5 girls are interchangeable and I hate that messaging?
Clannad is very clearly from-dating-sim material, but it’s telling a lot of fun vignettes. I wonder whether you could play the equivalent of this show in one game or whether the show is all the different paths that in the game would be happening at the same time being split out over a longer timespan.
Gonna Be the Twin-Tail has this weird...self-rule-making that hits too close to home and feels gross? There’s a point where the main character berates himself for being as interested in a girl’s lips as in her hairdo. Where basically he’s so caught up in his identity as obsessed that he’s literally upset that he could find anything else interesting. Life Advice: Don’t let your identity calcify this way around any aspect of your Self. It will not make you happy or prosperous.
Re: Zero is presently on The Good Bit: Our Hero is getting to use his funky time powers to full effect and pull off impossible planning to outmaneuver truly horrifying foes. This show has a lot of problems but they’re not present in these segments.
Inukami is next up. Part of the point of using the entire Titanic Anime Library instead of just shows I’d heard of is...to watch shows I’ve never even heard of. I’ve hit some really fun stuff that way, like Inari Kon Kon. We’ll see whether Inukami is closer to that or Kanokon.

i would do whatever you wanted (this is what it feels like)
(also on ao3)
Kara's not entirely sure what comes over her, not entirely sure of anything but how beautiful Lena is today—how cozy and warm and soft and devastatingly sexy she looks—and all she's doing is just sitting at the table in a ribbed, black turtleneck and black jeans, with her flawless brows and plum-dark lip, and her wavy hair up in a bun that's somehow managing to exist in the limbo between neat and messy, her little flyaway hairs just begging for Kara to curl her fingers in.
No, Kara's not entirely sure what comes over her, but as has become increasingly common lately, finds herself alone with Lena while she's looking this lovely, and she just can't stop staring and wondering—
"Can I kiss your stomach?" she asks.
Lena's perfect eyebrows lift in surprise, but she calmly sets her mug of hot tea down.
"Excuse me?" she says, like she just wants to clarify that Kara's indeed lost all of her marbles, and maybe some of someone else’s too.
"Uh, I mean," Kara flounders, blinking quickly and waving her hands wildly like the next words out of her mouth are an explanation and not, once again, "Can I kiss your stomach?"
Lena's face is unreadable as she levels Kara with a look and folds her arms on the table.
"Whatever could've possessed you to want to do that, Kara?" she asks, like she isn't the most beautiful woman Kara's ever seen.
"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen," Kara says earnestly. "And also you look so soft and warm in that sweater, which just got me thinking about how soft and warm your skin probably is underneath. And that got me thinking about feeling how soft and warm you are, uh, with my mouth, but it felt too awkward to ask to kiss your neck 'cause that's a little inappropriate, and I can't kiss your shoulders 'cause that involves stretching your sweater too much or taking it off—which is also inappropriate—so… stomach is what I came up with."
"Uhuh," says Lena, looking incredibly unimpressed.
"'Cause you can just… lift your sweater up a little," Kara explains weakly, miming the motion.
"Right, I got that," Lena says, because of course she did. She's a world-saving genius.
"Right," Kara echoes, pressing her lips together and fighting the urge to fidget.
Lena doesn't say anything more, just sits there tapping the fingers of one hand against the elbow of the other, and Kara considers flying around the planet a couple hundred times to cool the embarrassed flush burning the tips of her ears.
Right around the time Kara decides she might need to go for a dip in the arctic too for good measure, Lena abruptly says, "Sure, why not."
"What?" Kara asks over her shoulder, one leg comically dangling where it's hooked over the balcony railing.
Lena smiles at her. "I said, 'Sure, why not.'"
Kara hops unsteadily, cape swishing and twisting around her one grounded leg as she awkwardly hauls her other leg back over the railing, then dashes back to stand in front of Lena.
"Really?" she asks, incredulous.
"Mmhm, why not," Lena repeats with a light shrug. She curls her fingers under the hem of her sweater and Kara's eyes immediately follow. "so…"
"Um! Yes!" Kara says unnecessarily, and loudly, too loud, as she drops to her knees in front of the low stool Lena's perched on. Lena doesn't immediately lift her top up but Kara keeps staring, unblinking, afraid to miss anything.
"Everything okay?" Lena asks, and Kara could kiss her best friend for checking in right now, moments away from pulling her sweater up to let Kara put her mouth on her stomach.
"Absolutely, a hundred percent," Kara says, tearing her eyes away for just a second to meet Lena's gaze and smile reassuringly. "So okay."
"Okay," Lena says, fingers going white-knuckled as she starts to—
"Are you okay?" Kara blurts, looking up at her again because it's important. It's so, so important that Lena be okay with. Whatever the fuck this is.
There's a delicate rosiness to her cheeks that Kara hadn't noticed before.
"Yeah, of course!" Lena says emphatically, which is at odds with the way she nervously licks out at her lower lip. Kara is utterly enthralled by the damp it leaves behind. "It's just a little embarrassing, is all."
"Oh shoot! I'm so sorry, we don't have to do this!" Kara says, preparing to get up and pretend like this never happened.
"No, I mean," Lena lowers the sweater hem back to her lap and Kara pauses. "I mean, Kara, you're Supergirl. Powered by the sun. Practically a god, and built like one too. And I'm a very human woman."
Understanding dawns on Kara and she lifts both hands to squeeze comfortingly at Lena's thighs, opting to leave them there afterwards as she leans in confidentially.
"Lena, I know for a fact that you work out more than me and eat healthier," she says. "Honestly? They should've gotten you to do the healthy eating PSA instead."
Lena snorts and Kara grins, pressing on.
"But even if you didn't, I'd think you were gorgeous. You are gorgeous, Lena, and I'd really like to put my mouth on you if that's okay with you."
Lena's breath catches and her cheeks are even rosier, but she seems less anxious than she'd been before.
"I'd like that," she says softly, fiddling with her sweater hem.
"Me too," Kara says, eyes once more glued to Lena's fingers. "Very much."
Lena slowly lifts her sweater up then and Kara feels her pounding heartbeat match every aching millimeter of revealed skin.
"Oh wow," Kara breathes, helplessly scooting closer to squeeze between Lena's legs, hands sliding up her thighs and around to press at the skin of her lower back. "Wow, you're even prettier than I imagined. And so soft. And warm."
Lena squirms slightly, voice airy when she says, "You're warm too. Your hands."
Kara curls her fingers to scratch lightly at Lena's back, something gooey settling in her belly when a tiny noise catches in Lena's throat as her back arches.
"Can I kiss you now?" she asks, voice low.
"Yeah," Lena whispers.
Kara leans in and indulgently nuzzles at a smattering of freckles she spots on the skin of Lena's stomach, breathing in the sweet, clean smell she recognizes as Lena's natural scent.
"Y'smell good," she mumbles, lips tickling where they brush against soft belly.
Lena makes another little sound, thighs squeezing around Kara's shoulders, and the gooey something in her stomach grows warm.
Kara kisses Lena's belly properly, once over a freckle, then once again, then twice, hands keeping her close as her kisses meander left and right, up and down. And down. And—
Lena's breath keeps hitching, heart beating drumline loud in Kara's ears, or maybe it's her own heart.
"Doing okay?" she asks, mouth still smooshed to soft skin.
"Mmhm," Lena hums, pitch high and tilting higher when Kara mouths another kiss right over the waistband of her mid-rise jeans.
Kara brings her hands back around and slips her thumbs just under the waistband, stifling the desire to moan when Lena trembles. She tugs ever-so-slightly downward, revealing lovely skin reddened and creased by the press of denim. She coos sympathetically and dips forward, moving her lips softly over the unhappy lines like the gentle press of her mouth could possibly erase hours of being squeezed by jeans.
"Doesn't hurt?" she asks, thumbs brushing over the creases across Lena's stomach
"No, you're very gentle," Lena reassures her, releasing her sweater with one hand to scratch her scalp.
Kara's eyes slip closed involuntarily and she hums.
"Mm, good, that's really nice," she mumbles about the blunt nails working through her hair, feeling warm and happy from that and the affirmation. "But I meant the lines from the jeans."
"Oh."
The fingers still and Kara nuzzles at Lena's belly with an entreating noise, hoping to encourage her to keep going. Luckily, she does, and Kara sighs contentedly, moving her lips against Lena's stomach again and enjoying the light drag of skin on skin.
"Um, no, those don't hurt," Lena says as she runs her fingers through Kara's hair.
"'Kay, good," says Kara. "just checking."
She slides her left hand over to thumb at the button of Lena's jeans as she presses increasingly wet kisses along the revealed skin just under the waistband.
It almost seems like Lena lifts her hips up into her mouth and hands, and god, she wants—
"Can I…?" Kara asks, tapping the button.
"Yeah," Lena says, more breath than sound.
Kara likes the way her voice sounds like that. She unbuttons Lena's jeans, then eases the zipper down and peels the denim away, freeing more pretty skin and a hint of black lace.
"Wow," she says again, because the first two times weren't enough.
And then because there are no more words that could suffice, she leans in and drags her tongue over Lena's hipbone, just above the lace.
Lena whimpers, fingers tightening in Kara's hair, and Kara freezes with her tongue halfway out. She cautiously scrapes her teeth lightly over the bone and is rewarded with a shuddery gasp and a tug to the back of her head. Both excellent reactions.
She has to experiment then, alternating between kisses and licks and little nips and scrapes of her teeth, moving up until her head is bumping into the hand Lena is using to hold her sweater out of the way and kissing back down in a curve following her ribcage, first left then right, lingering every time she meets a freckle and every time a spot makes Lena squirm on the stool or squeeze her thighs inwards.
In this manner, Kara eventually maps all of Lena's soft belly, knows that scraping her teeth against a rib on her left side makes her hiss and pull at Kara's hair; knows that slow kisses up and down the middle of her tummy makes her breathe deep and rub Kara's scalp; knows that the wetter she makes her kisses below belly button level, the more she whimpers and rolls her hips up and clutches at Kara's head.
It's one of these times, while Kara is swirling her tongue somewhere between her belly button and the tantalizing lace of her underwear, that Lena curls forward with a breathy moan and weakly pushes Kara away.
"Okay," she says, voice scratchy. "Okay, I can't take anymore."
Kara whines unhappily, pout pulling the corners of her mouth down and scrunching her brows, but stops immediately.
“What’s wrong?” she asks, worried.
Lena drops her sweater and covers her face with both hands.
“Lena?” Kara asks, carefully wrapping her fingers around her wrists and trying not to let too much panic bleed into her voice. “Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”
Lena sucks in a shaky breath, wetting her lips.
“I’m okay,” she mumbles from behind her hands. “You didn’t hurt me. It just—” She pauses and breathes out slowly, finishing in a near-whisper. “It was just starting to feel too good.”
“Oh,” Kara says, blinking. She strokes her thumbs against her wrists, feeling the strong pulse hammering just under the thin skin. "It felt good?"
"Yeah," Lena says, and when she lets Kara gently pull her hands away, she's blushing prettily.
"It felt good for me too," Kara admits shyly, rubbing her cheek against the back of Lena's hand, heart swelling to the size of a blue whale, or something else equally big and maybe not as blue.
"Oh, okay, good," Lena says, smiling wide and dimply. She brushes her knuckles tenderly across Kara's cheek.
"I really like how it feels to have my mouth on you," Kara says.
Lena shivers slightly, the corner of her mouth quirking up.
"I… really like it too. Maybe we can do it again sometime?"
"But not now?" Kara asks, more than a little disappointed.
Lena nibbles at her lip and Kara spares a moment to marvel at the way her lipstick has held so perfectly before her focus is drawn to the motion of her reaching for her sweater again.
"I guess..." Lena starts, lifting her top up. "I guess a little more now couldn't hurt…"
Kara grins and leans in.
——
"Do you think it's safe to go back in yet?" Nia asks, leaning with one foot against the wall.
Brainy presses his ear to the door, listens for a beat, then shakes his head with a shrug.
"Unclear," he says, before mirroring her on the other side of the door.
"Maybe it's better to just wait for them to come out…"

dove down my rabbit hole of wips and one of my wips isnt a wip anymore! so here, have some gay shit....
“Kelly wants to get married in the woods, I want to get married in Midvale. So, apparently, our wedding will just happen via Zoom. Her in the woods, me at the beach. Ain’t that just fucking grand?”
Alex comes through the door like a hurricane covered in leather. Her helmet lands on Kara’s counter loudly. Her keys haphazardly thrown somewhere in the general direction of the bowl by the door.
“Then have two weddings.”
Alex follows the voice and her eyes zero in on her sister’s best friend.
Lena is sitting on the floor of Kara’s apartment, wearing an oversized sweater. Her dark hair spilling down her shoulders softly. A hand wrapping around a wine glass, the other typing on her laptop, not even jumping in the slightest at the commotion that is Alex’s entrance.
Alex plops down on the couch sighing loudly, not even batting an eye at this utterly domestic scene that is her sister washing the dishes with Lena Luthor on the floor of her apartment.
Lena doesn’t comment at the Danvers’ Sisters antics and Alex doesn’t call them out on the ridiculousness that Lena and Kara are still keen on keeping up.
The three of them already well desensitized to one another’s preferred brand of bullshitery.
“You know, sometimes I forget you're a rich-ass bitch and then you say shit like that and suddenly, I remember,” Alex says, smoothly snatching the wine from Lena’s hand.
She finishes the entire glass in one gulp and Lena rolls her eyes. Alex had finally proposed to Kelly the other week and well, that meant this week all of them had fallen victim to the Olsen-Danvers wedding debacle. It seems today isn’t the day that that whole dilemma is going to stop.
The wedding, of course, was still a few months away, but both parties were stressing about it as if it was going to happen immediately the next day.
Kara swoops in then, mussing up Alex’s hair, earning her an annoyed Hey stop it! before putting down another wine glass and pouring for Lena. Her arms are still wet from washing the dishes.
Lena murmurs her thanks and continues what she was saying, “Well, since you’ve finally remembered that I’m a billionaire. Let me pay for two weddings.”
Alex chokes on the wine.
“What? You’re kidding me, right?”
Lena continues typing, ignoring Alex’s shock, you’d think she didn’t just offer to pay for a wedding.
“Well, I mean, I’m never gonna get married,” Lena explains, “but if you let me do this, I can brag around that I’ve paid for two weddings. Not to mention I’m gonna make two brides very, very happy.”
“Or,” Kara interjects, lowering herself on the opposite side of the couch, perfect for Lena to lean back between Kara’s legs and lay her head on the side of her thigh. “You can just wait for Kelly to get here,” Kara says, pointedly. “Talk it out like normal adults and reach a compromise.”
Kara’s hands start to snake their way from Lena’s hair to Lena’s shoulders, massaging, all too aware that Lena won’t stop whatever it is she’s working on on her laptop till everybody gets here.
Lena lets herself melt and closes her eyes, sighing as Kara’s fingers dip at the junction of her neck and shoulder with just the right amount of pressure.
“I don’t wanna get married in the woods, Kara.”
Lena opens one eye to take a peek at Alex, who looks exasperated, her eyes pleading, gulping down another glass of wine.
“Don’t tell me,” Kara replies. “Tell Kelly.”
“The bugs, Kara,” Alex moans. “Imagine the bugs, and the moss and the ughhh.”
She dramatically thumps the back of her head on the couch.
“Imagine the soil. Clumpy wet soil. Eurgh. Ew. What if I fall face first in that? What if I trip over a stupid tree root in my heels? In my wedding dress?!”
“Alex, you don’t even have a dress yet,” Kara deadpans.
“I thought you were gonna wear a suit,” Lena adds.
“You two suck.” Alex pouts.
****
The rest of their friends arrive and Kara finally succeeds in prying Lena’s work laptop away from her. Alex was already teasing the line from tipsy to drunk by the time Kelly comes through the door.
“Let’s get married in Vegas!!!!” Is how Alex decides to greet her fiance.
Kelly laughs, gives her a peck then answers, “As much as that sounds like a very convenient wedding, I don’t think Eliza would appreciate that, baby.”
Alex frowns at being rejected, sags against the couch and crosses her arms. Why does Kelly always have to be right?
“How much has she had to drink?” Kelly turns to Kara.
“Uhh ask Lena. She made her switch to whiskey.”
Lena—who Kelly thinks was way too busy nuzzling against Kara’s neck to even answer her question—mumbles something that sounds like “S’was just two glasses.”
Kelly just shakes her head, makes Alex drink a glass of water. Her ring making a clink against the glass.
“Alright, what if,” Nia sing-songs, eyes sparkling with mischief, “we just settle this whole wedding thing with Charades?”
Nia claps her hands together like some gameshow host and Kelly takes a deep breath through the nose.
She’s been to enough Game Nights to know where this is headed.
Everybody else was intoxicated enough to accept the suggestion as a grand idea, not at all even thinking that: Hey, isn’t this something we should all take seriously?? Maybe ask the brides what they want, maybe???
Kara nods enthusiastically, agreeing immediately, “Oh!! That’s a great idea! Fun and fair at the same time!”
“Olsen vs. Danvers. Brides get to pick their teams.”
Nia pulls a white board out of nowhere, uncaps a marker and writes “Team Danvers”, “Team Olsen” separated by a neat line in the middle.
“Are we really letting Nia take charge of our wedding venue?" She hears Alex whisper from where she has her tucked at the crook of her neck.
Kelly sneaks a glance at the chaos happening before their eyes; Brainy already claiming to be on Kelly’s team, J’onn shaking his head opting to be the game scorer instead and refusing to participate, somebody’s shouting about: NIA, DREAM PROJECTIONS AT CHARADES IS CHEATING!!!!
Guess this is their life now.
Kelly smirks, boops Alex on the nose and says, “Scared you’ll lose, Danvers?”
****
Alex loses by three points.
“How was I supposed to know you were gesturing 'Transformers'!?!” She barks at Kara, throwing her hands in exasperation.
“I pointed at Nia!” Kara huffs, incredulous at the fact that her sister is blaming her.
Nia lost them a point too!
“What does Nia even have to do with it???” Alex’s voice grows higher in pitch. Her brows furrow in a mix of confusion and frustration.
“Trans, Alex. Trans.”
“Oh my God,” Alex groans. “How are you this dumb?”
And that was the story of how Kelly got her dream wedding.
****
The frenzy finally dies down, some time between Nia making up another drinking game and J’onn making her sit back down. A movie that none of them were watching provides a background noise to the almost lazy atmosphere. Kelly and Alex were pressed close on the far end of the couch, enjoying the temporary quiet.
“Guess we’re getting married in the woods, huh?” Alex murmurs.
“I guess we are,” Kelly whispers back. Alex beams at her, grinning dopily at the thought of finally getting the ending they deserve. It would be the perfect day, she has no doubt about that. No matter where they are. It would be perfect because they got there together.
Alex can’t wait.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing.”
Alex continues to smile stupidly, nudges her nose to Kelly’s.
“Just— I don’t really care where we get married, I guess.”
“Oh yeah?” Kelly raises an amused brow at her.
“Mm-hm. So long as you’re the one walking down the aisle.”
Alex presses their lips together, breathes Kelly in deep and for the first time that night, she feels that the future isn’t so scary, even though there is still a very large possibility that she might trip over a tree root on her wedding day.
Somebody interrupts their kiss.
“She’s only saying that ‘cos she lost.”
“Shut up, Luthor.”
****
“Text me when you get home!”
Lena hears Kara call loudly after her sister, before closing the door. Game Night has officially ended and as usual she’s still here. She’ll always be here, she thinks for a brief moment. The thought holding more depth than it should.
Kara didn’t even question her when everybody began filing out and Lena just started picking up the discarded dirty plates and walking them to the sink. They’re well past the point of asking each other if the other would stay over.
It was already some unspoken rule.
Already well past the point of Lena wanting to ask Kara what the hell it is they’re doing.
She’s bent over the sink, scrubbing—Kara doesn’t own a dishwasher for the sole reason that she finds doing the dishes therapeutic—when Lena takes a glance over her shoulder.
Kara is sitting on a high stool near the counter, casually flicking through her phone. It was Lena’s turn to do the dishes tonight. Once upon a time her doing the dishes would have resulted in a fight. “I can superspeed the dishes. Why would you even want to do them?” A statement that would be met with an eye roll.
Kara has learned not to fight her on it again, after around the 7th time that Lena had stubbornly insisted and Supergirl got doused with dishwashing liquid.
And now, it’s become some sort of routine, Kara does the dishes after lunch and Lena does the dishes after dinner. Oh, how the paparazzi would kill for this—Lena Luthor Knows What A Sponge Is?
“Is it true when you told Alex you’re never going to get married?”
Kara decides to break their quiet.
“Yeah, pretty certain about that one, why?” Lena turns around, cocks a curious brow. If she’s being honest she’s beyond certain that she’s not going to get married. She always jokes about how she’s married to L-Corp but it isn’t till now that she realizes how true that is, and...how lonely.
“I don’t know,” Kara murmurs, not meeting Lena’s eyes. “I just like the idea of you getting married, I guess.”
“What?” Lena chuckles at that; genuinely confused but still curious.
“Well, I mean—” Kara wobbles through her words.
“I guess, I just— I like the idea of you walking down the aisle...in a white dress,” Kara muses.
Then, “Or a suit!!” she quickly amends. “If you wanna wear a suit, that is. That can totally be arranged, you know?” Kara waves her hand around and it’s like now that she’s started, she can’t stop.
And Lena’s just standing there, water still dripping from her elbow, unsure of how to feel about Kara imagining her getting married. Quite an incredulous scene isn’t it? Her getting married? What a crazy thing to say, an even crazier scenario to imagine!
She snaps out of it, realizing Kara’s still rambling.
“I have no objections whatsoever with that, if you wanna wear a suit. And yeah, you know? I just— I like that idea. I like the idea of you dancing to your wedding song. The idea of you exchanging your vows, the idea of you-”
“Kara,” Lena decides to put a stop to it, since it’s clearly evident Kara won’t be stopping any time soon. And Lena's feeling way too many things that she doesn’t want to feel at the moment. She’s sure that she’s going to feel more, if she doesn’t put a stop to it herself.
“I’m well aware that it’s the best friend’s job to help with the bride’s wedding,” She says, “but, darling don’t you think you’re putting just a bit too much effort into this? Certainly seems like you’ve thought about it a lot.”
At that, Kara’s cheeks turn a light pink, squirming sheepishly under Lena’s questioning gaze.
Shouldn’t Kara be thinking about her own wedding? How beautiful she would look walking down the aisle. How her blonde hair would look so nicely with her dress. How happy she would finally be after finding someone she could share her life with. Not that Lena's been thinking about those kinds of things. No, of course not. That’d be hypocritical of her at this point. Why would she even— Why were they even talking about this again???
Lena tries to rein in it, tries to focus on Kara again; hands finally finding a dry towel, hesitantly walking into Kara’s space to hear the blonde more clearly.
“Well, I mean- Like I said, I do really like the idea of you getting married,” Kara repeats herself slowly.
And before Lena can come any closer, “Like the idea of you getting married…to me. More specifically,” Kara adds more quietly.
“What?”
Lena stands frozen.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard y- Kara, did you just?”
Lena’s heart is pounding away in her chest. Did she hear her right? Did Kara really just—
Lena’s a step away from her and Kara uses this to her advantage. She pulls Lena closer, tugging at her wrist, the towel dropping from Lena’s hands. Kara summons enough willpower to stare into Lena’s eyes.
“I like the idea of you getting married to me, Lena Luthor.”
“Kara, I’m sorry- What?” Lena jerks away from her, the words finally landing.
“Is that a no?”
Kara lets her go. She can’t focus on Lena’s heartbeat to assess the situation more. Kara’s own heart is betraying her, drumming so loudly in her ears.
“Uh- no, that's definitely not a no?” says Lena hesitantly, eyes wide, breathing nervously. She turns away from Kara for a minute to take a breath, hands fidgeting about.
She whirls around again to face, mutters, “You do realize marriages are for people who are—”
She pauses.
How do you exactly phrase that wedding proposals are for people who are actually in some kind of romantic relationship? And not for people who casually stay over every goddamn Thursday without fail? And okay, maybe sometimes, in a much different reality, would willingly commit fratricide to save the other? And in an also much different reality, willingly expose a secret identity to save the other?
Lena can’t find the right words.
“Oh, I don’t know, Kara,” Lena scoffs, shaking her head disbelievingly. “Marriage is for people who are actually dating each other.”
Kara takes her sarcasm as a good sign and pulls her in again.
“Well,” Kara begins. She can hear Lena’s heart thumping erratically, now that Kara’s gotten her bearings.
“We can always have our first date after the wedding, right?”
Aren’t they well past the point of dating anyway?
She’s got Lena standing between her legs now, her hands wrapping around her waist.
“First date and honeymoon all in one. That sounds great, doesn’t it? I can fly you wherever you want, Paris, Maldives, hell I even have a Fortress in the Arctic, if you’re into that.”
Lena stares at her, blinks once, twice; shakes her head and lets out a noise between a laugh and a scoff.
“Kara Zor-El, you are one ridiculous woman,” She breathes, putting a hand on Kara’s cheek. Because what else is there to say? This whole conversation really is ridiculous. But at the same time Lena feels like she’s floating? Like this may be the best moment of her life, and of course, it’s going to be ridiculous. This is Kara she’s dealing with, after all.
She doesn’t know what she’s going to do if Kara reveals this to be just some sort of joke.
But the way her blue eyes are piercing through Lena’s, so earnest and so warm, argues otherwise.
“So, what do you say? Wanna get married?”
“Are you serious right now?” Lena asks, still unbelieving. This is beyond crazy. They’ve fought aliens and monsters and traveled through time but this? This is just beyond crazy.
“Lena, do I look like I’m joking? And besides, you’d already offered to pay for two weddings, why not pay for our two weddings, instead?”
She shakes her head again, let’s herself fall closer to Kara, lets out a laugh against her neck.
“Mm. You want a Kryptonian ceremony too?”
“Yeah.” Kara’s voice turns shy. “If that’s alright by you.”
“Of course, that’s alright by me. I’d be honored.”
Her heart feels more than full at the thought of Kara wanting to share that part of her with Lena. She’s always had some doubts whenever the topic of Kara’s Kryptonian heritage arises, always half-afraid she’s overstepped on something that isn’t hers.
But looks like there was nothing to fear all along.
“So, we’re getting married, huh?” Kara wiggles her brows, her face breaking into a wide grin.
“Yes. Mm-hm,” Lena hums against her. “I do. I’d marry you. Let’s get married.”
“Seal it with a kiss?"
****
“Hi.”
Lena blearily opens her eyes, follows the soft voice, her bare back being caressed by the sun filtering through Kara’s curtains.
“Hi,” She whispers back. All this feels much too like a fever dream. She’s half-tempted to pinch herself just to check. She’s woken up beside Kara a million times before but she’ll never get used to the sight of soft golden hair and sleepy blue eyes.
Kara gives her a soft peck and the feel of her lips sends Lena reeling.
The previous night was a whirlwind in her mind’s eye. The moment Lena murmured her 'Yes, please.', Kara kissed her passionately. Once they broke away, Kara had zipped around the apartment, Lena too dazed to even ask what it was Kara was looking for.
She watched as Kara tore off a keychain from one of her bags, curled the keyring to fit Lena’s finger and whispered, “This’ll do. For now.”
Kara had kissed her knuckles reverently, her lips making Lena’s blood sing in her veins. The feel of mangled metal fitted just for her left hand is an imprint on her soul. A promise of more to come.
They didn’t make it out of the kitchen the first time. Kara had lifted her by the waist and set her down on the kitchen counter. Which was a good thing, because Lena couldn’t feel her legs after.
They didn’t make it to the bedroom the second time either. She had tackled Kara onto the couch, pinning her wrists together, licking at the shell of Kara’s ear. “My turn now,” Lena had whispered. The way Kara shivered underneath her was enough of a reward. How long had they been waiting for this?
Flashes of last night had her hips bucking slightly unto Kara’s leg sandwiched between her own, but before it could escalate further...
“I have exciting news to share,” Kara tells her.
“Really?”
“Mm-hmm,” Kara hums, now nosing at Lena’s hair.
“What is it?” Lena asks.
“I’m getting married.”
“Oh you are?” Lena plays along.
“Yes. I’m getting married to my best friend,” whispers Kara, almost conspiratorially. “How cool is that?”
Kara looks giddy with excitement and Lena knows she’s mirroring that exact same expression right now.
“Mm. Very cool, darling.”
Kara giggles and they trade more lazy kisses before Lena breaks away to breathe.
“Quite a coincidence though,” Lena husks out against Kara’s lips.
“Oh really? Why?” Kara asks, tries to keep a serious neutral face despite her nose scrunching up in that cute smile that Lena can’t resist
“I’m also getting married,” Lena confides, “To my best friend," she adds, eyes flashing. "Isn’t that great?”
“Very great.” Kara nods slowly, blonde hair falling into her face, a hand running through dark tresses.
“I love you,” Lena whispers, her lips brushing Kara’s softly.
“I love you, too.” Kara kisses her harder then, her hands lazily wandering along Lena’s skin.
They lie there quietly for a few moments, basking in the morning glow and then, “Alex will kill us.”
Lena snorts, twists in the sheets and says, “I think your sister is too busy planning her wedding to even think about plotting our murder.”

(ao3 link)
Lena slips out of the Tower, just before 10 pm. It had been easier than she’d expected, but when the karaoke had started, no one faulted Lena, and her notorious anti musical theater mentality, for leaving.
She considers calling a car to take her home, but she’s been trying to cut down on those services since leaving L Corp. Besides, her loft is only a 30 minute walk away, and the night seems pleasant enough.
As she walks, she considers the words she’d spoken to Kara just hours before. I really am free of Lex. Then why can’t she stop thinking about him? That feeling of rage that had welled in her gut at the sight of him festers still.
She’s pulled out of her thoughts as she collides with a body that seems to appear out of nowhere. Strong hands, familIar hands, quickly grasp her at the waist.
“Lena?”
Lena realizes that she’s somehow walked all the way to CatCo, right into Andrea Rojas’ arms.
“Is something wrong?”
As Lena stares into crystal blue eyes, she feels her nerves settle. A hand presses itself solidly to her lower back, Andrea pulling her in close, steadying her.
“Not anymore.” She crushes their lips together, slipping her tongue into Andrea’s mouth as she gasps in surprise. Lena grasps the collar of Andrea’s shirt, material fisting in her hands as she pulls them into the dark alleyway next to the building. They break apart when Lena’s back crashes into the wall of the building.
“Take me home,” Lena whines.
“Do you trust me?” She feels the words rumble against her pulse as Andrea’s kiss swollen lips drag down her neck.
“Yes I trust you, fuck, Andrea.” And then they’re kissing again, and Lena’s falling.
The world is suddenly endless, limitless darkness, but Lena focuses on the feeling of Andrea’s arms around her, and feels no fear.
In a blink, they’re back on solid ground, Lena recognizes her apartment even through the darkness.
“Are you okay?’ Lena leans into the palms cupping her cheeks, nodding. She hooks her fingers into Andrea’s belt, leading her into the bedroom.
“Take me.” Lena loses herself in the whirl of sensation as they strip off their clothing and Andrea spreads her out on the plush bed. Loses herself in the touch of Andrea’s teeth against her nipples, the graze of Andrea’s tongue against the fine hairs under her belly button.
The world splits open as Andrea finally slides between her thighs and drinks her in like a woman parched. She doesn’t let up until Lena has screamed herself hoarse, pushing at Andrea’s head as the oversensitivity borders on painful. As she struggles to catch her breath, Lena focuses on the way Andrea’s hair drapes sleek down her back as she pillows her head on Lena’s thigh, wet lips pressed to the marks she’s sucked into sensitive pale skin.
“Well, that was a pleasant surprise.” Lena doesn’t need to see Andrea’s expression to know it’s smug.
“Shut up.” Any possible bite in her words is dulled by the fact that Lena can still feel her legs twitching under Andrea’s touch.
Andrea stifles her laugh against Lena’s stomach before she pulls herself up to eye level. The medallion around her neck dangles between them, and when it rests against the skin of Lena’s sternum, a curious thing happens. Heat blooms through Lena’s body and Andrea groans low, pressing hard against Lena’s hip.
“That’s a neat trick.” Lena hitches her leg up and flips Andrea onto her back, pressing close as Andrea’s chest arches up, straddling her hips. She grasps Andrea’s wrists, pressing them into the mattress by her head. “My turn.”

Sam Arias (Godmother).
Supercorp, Kara Danvers x Daughter!Reader, Lena Luthor x Daughter!Reader, Sam Arias x Goddaughter!Reader
Word Count: 2270.
“You know,” Jamie is walking next to you out of the school. “I should just get used to third wheeling my whole life.” She sighs dramatically next to you. “Because I’ll stand there in that prom all alone.”
You and Maya just stare at each other for a second with nothing to say.
“Are we a joke to you?” Julie says on the other side, and you hold your chuckle.
“Whatever.” Jamie complains, spotting Sam on the other side of the street. “Gotta run, mom’s here.” It’s not even a minute later and she is back to where you guys are standing. “She said you should come too.”
“Oh, ok.” You give Maya a kiss, ignoring Julie’s rolling eyes. “See you guys tomorrow.” You and Jamie run to the other side of the street together. “Hey, godmother!”
“Hey, munchkin. Come in.” Sam says from the inside of the car, and you go into the backseat. “Don’t tell Lena, but I really don’t feel like working anymore today. I thought the three of us could go shopping for prom.”
“Really?” Jamie almost jumps in her seat. “That’s so neat! I thought you said you couldn’t.”
“Um, well, yeah. To be honest I should be in an important phone call or whatever.” Sam starts driving, looking back at you from the rearview mirror. “Again, don’t tell Lena.”
“Your secret is safe with me.” You smile at her in agreement.
“You won’t get in trouble, right?” You hear a ping of worry in Jamie’s voice. “It’s ok if you can’t, mom. Really. The two of us can go alone.”
“What? And miss this very important time of your lives? No.” Sam takes one hand from the wheel and holds Jamie’s face. “Work is really important, but nothing is more important to me than you.” You clear your throat in the backseat, and her smile opens wide. “I meant both of you.”
“I sure hope you did.”
You sigh happily while looking at your godmother. You have all of your memories from the other timeline, you know, the one where she was still your godmother but lived miles away in Metropolis and you two only saw each other a few times a year. Now you have this whole other life, other memories, and your godmother is in almost all of them.
You’re glad you went back to the past and changed this. You’re glad Jamie has another strong, caring, beautiful woman to call mom. And you’re also glad for yourself. Your godmother is one of your favorite adults, and you could always count on her. It sounds nothing but obvious that she would be the one taking you to shop for prom.
As soon as her car stops, Jamie is out the door. It’s not hard getting her excited, but she is through the roof right now. You and Sam let her go running in front of you.
“Your moms won’t be upset, right?” Sam asks and you smile reassuringly.
“No. They’re busy.” You shrug. “Between the robotics program on L Corp and Kara saying goodbye to Supergirl duties, I think they already have a lot on their plates. Besides, I trust your judgment for clothes and I think I would like to surprise them with my outfit.”
“Well, then we should pick something really fancy.” She smiles, squeezing your hand and you agree.
“Can I text Conner for him to join? He wants to buy a suit and ask her out.”
“WHAT!” Sam yells, calling Jamie’s attention. She quickly comes back to where you guys are.
“Be cool, godmother.” You whisper and rush to reassure Jamie that there’s nothing wrong.
You: Come hang out. We’re buying outfits for Prom.
Superboring: Who’s we?
You: Photo.
Superboring: Coming!
Conner is there before you can even blink. You only realized how annoying that is when someone does it to you. You should start giving people a minute or two before you materialize in front of them.
“Conner!” Jamie’s voice is two octaves higher. Her hands go instinctively to her hair, as she smooths them down. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh, I wanted help picking my suit.” He explains nothing, like the biggest dumbass he is. You elbow him for more. “Also, I wanted to see the color of the dress you’re picking, so I can match my tie.”
You and your godmother look at each other, not believing what is happening. Rao, you hope Jamie says no. He really needs to step up his game.
“Why would you do that?”
“So we’re the best-looking couple there. Not that it is hard.” You give him another elbow on the ribs. “Because you are already the best-looking girl there.”
“Ok, I can’t watch this anymore.” Sam says, pulling you by the hand and you have to let yourself be pulled so she doesn’t look stupid. “Alex will want to know the details, and I rather not have to tell her all the dumb things he’ll say.”
“Boys.” You mock, making her chuckle.
“And what are you planning on wearing?” Sam asks, pointing at a store. You shake your head in denial. “Don’t tell me Superkid is going to get down there and party.”
“That happened once, and I gotta tell you, it was dope. The partying, not the consequences of it.” You explain, thinking about it further. “I’m conflicted, actually. I kinda want to wear a perfect mermaid dress, and kinda wanna wear a badass suit.”
“You would be perfect in both. Why don’t we see both options?” Sam takes you to a store. Jamie shows up a few minutes later hand-in-hand with Conner, and you roll your eyes at the scene. But they look happy, so you guess you’re happy for them too.
It turns out that you can’t decide, so you buy both options. There is always a L Corp event for you to wear the other one if you need to.
“Shit, it’s Lena.” Sam looks at her phone. You can see the desperation in her eyes. “I had a meeting with the team, for your thing.”
“The robotics program?”
Sam agrees with her head. “Just looking for fundings and stuff.” She says, still staring at her phone thinking about what to do.
“That sounded important, godmother. Why weren’t you there?”
“I told you, meetings are important, but this moment here is way more.”
“Picking outfits for Prom hardly sounds more important than funding for the program. The program is supposed to help out L Corp with more creative ideas. It’s supposed to help people like me.” You are aware your voice is coming out a little too loud here, but the fact that your own godmother isn’t taking your program, your future, seriously, gets you a little nervous.
‘Munchkin.” She starts, looking around, there’s people staring because you kind of started a scene. She points her head at the door, for you to follow her. Jamie understands that the both of you need time, so she and Conner stay behind, and you can clearly hear them planning how they are going to prom. Of course she wants a limo, and of course he wants to fly them there.
You follow Sam out of the store, into a place with less people where you two can sit.
“Why aren’t you taking the program seriously? Do you think it’s bad?”
“What? No! The program is incredible and I’m well aware it is going to help out L Corp.”
“Then why are you skipping meetings to come here? To a stupid mall? To buy stupid dresses? To stupid teenagers?”
“Because none of that is stupid.” Sam reaches for your hand. “Stop thinking stuff like graduating high school and going to a prom is stupid.” You are about to open your mouth, when she interrupts. “Honey, look at your life. In a few days you will be,” she whispers. “Supergirl. You’ll be working for L Corp. You will be a responsible adult, instead of a responsible kid.”
“Yeah. Exactly.” You shrug, failing to see the point.
“It’s a big moment. A big transition and you are not giving a single thought about it because you’re so focused on what’s going to happen next.” Sam gives you a sad smile. “Have you considered that from now on, you won’t go to school anymore? That all of your friends are going to different colleges? That Jamie is moving to another state?”
“I can fly.”
“You can fly, that’s true. But you will have to work. Then you will have to do some saving of the world. Then there’s your girlfriend who’s also moving far, and trust me, I’m not saying you can’t handle it all. Because if there’s one thing I know about you, it's that you don’t quit. All I’m saying is that,” she breathes out. “I don’t know when we’ll have another moment like this one. You and Jamie, and Conner,” she rolls her eyes, “all here being silly, buying stupid clothes, being kids. JUST kids. And me being here to live this with you guys.”
“Maybe you’re taking this too seriously?”
“Kid, I’m 50. I know exactly how empty I felt when Ruby left for college. I have another chance here. To enjoy my kids as much as I can. I know your moms are not being dramatic about it, but they’ll realize sooner than later that they should.”
You smile at her. “your kids, huh?”
She smiles through the tears. “Duh. I’ve been mummying you since you’re six. Don’t you dare think I’ll stop now.” And she pulls you closer so she can kiss your head. “I love you so much, munchkin. I’m happy you’re not leaving for college. And trust me, I’ll secure those funds for your project. Just not today.”
“I know. I believe in you.” You really do believe in your godmother, and you know she meant every word she just said. That’s why when her phone rings again, you take it from her hand and pick it up yourself. “Hey, mom.”
“Baby? Are you with Sam? Is everything ok?”
“Yeah, everything is fine. But we had important business to get to today, that’s why she couldn’t go to L Corp. Don’t worry, it’s all fine, and we’ll see you at home, ok?”
“Oh-Okay.” You hang up the phone and look at Sam, still silently crying. You wipe her tears with your thumb.
“Well, come on. We’re wasting precious time from my childhood.” You stand up with a smile and show her your hand.
She IS being dramatic, that’s for sure. But she also has a point. You have been focusing so hard on everything that will change in a few days, that you forgot to look at the things that you don’t want to change. Things that you wish you could keep as it was for a little longer.
Soon, Jamie will be in college, and yeah sure, you can fly there and visit, but it won’t be the same as seeing her at school every single day. Technology has evolved, but a phone screen isn’t the same thing. Besides, how weird would it be for Supergirl to be on campus all the time?
All this time you were a responsible kid. Went to different universes, helped save the world a few times, worked on inventions. But there were also times that you did stupid kid’s choices like showing up to a party in your supersuit, stealing Lena’s car, building video games just for the fun of it, dog sitting even though Lena doesn’t like pets, becoming a baby for a day, and honestly the list goes on and on for a while.
Soon, you realize exactly what she means, and how much you are going to miss your life as it is right now. You’re glad she is there to pull the breaks a little bit because you really do want to enjoy this coming-of-age period, rather than just rolling through it unnoticed.
“Hey.” You say, as soon as Sam stops the car in front of your house. You could have flown, but you wanted to enjoy her company for as long as you could. “I had a really nice time with you guys today.”
“Yeah, mom.” Jamie makes number. “Thanks for taking the time to go with us. It wouldn’t be the same without you there.”
Sam smiles, the brightest one you’ve ever seen. “Trust me, no one enjoyed this as much as I did.”
“Agree to disagree.” You kiss her cheek and slip out of the car. “Good luck handling the beast tomorrow.”
She knows exactly what you mean when she replies. “Oh, leave it to me. I’m great with Luthors.” You furrow your brows at her. “Ok. I’m great with two Luthors. Trust me, in this situation, a 50 percent ratio is great news.”
“I love you.”
“I love you more, munchkin.”
You go inside your house, smiling so hard your cheeks are starting to hurt. Sam was right. Moments like this might seem small, compared to the grandness of a lot of situations in your life, but you would take this day right here over any saving-the-day one easily.
“Hey!” Lena greets you as soon as you walk in. “What was the important business?”
You smile harder, before lifting your shopping bags. “Shopping for Prom!”
Kara and Lena look at each other, wondering if they missed something -they did-, but they soon shrug and smile back at you.
“Well, don’t just stand there.” Kara motions for you to come closer. “Show us what you bought.”
Isn’t your family the best, or what?

Tomorrowverse Karadox playlist analysis, part 2
Blame it On My Heart (Karmin):
Trust I wanted to tell you
No, I never meant for you to be hurt
Tongue-tied-up my escape plan
Now I got a million bridges to burn
Here comes the ache, too much to take
You got to let it go (let it go)
Give me a break, it's my mistake
Darling, I should've known
I couldn't help it, sorry I'm selfish
But blame it on my heart
Blame it on the beating
No alibi, I had to try, baby
Blame it on my heart
Blame it on the beating
All the things I said
Cross them out in red, honey
Blame it on my heart
Blame it on the feeling
Don't make it worse
I can't reverse it so
Blame it on my heart
Blame it on my beating heart
One of my favorite songs from the past few years, and I think it’s for sure the middle part of the movie where Brainy is blamed for what he didn’t do, and it definitely reminds me of when he confesses to Kara that his plan wasn’t logical but he still wanted to prove that he wasn’t his family. It doesn’t really fit the serious tone of that scene, but it’s a bop and I still like listening to it.
Checkmate- Conan Gray
'Cause I've gotten tired of the games that you play
When you tell me you love me then you throw me away
So cry me a river till you drown in the lake
'Cause you may think you're winning but checkmate
Yeah you may think you're winning but checkmate
I think I discovered this one on a playlist for another rivals-to-lovers pairing, and again the lyrics aren’t quite accurate, but the vibe fits, and the chess motif fits for Brainy.
Will They or Won’t They?- Misbehavin’ Maidens
In these stories we want to know
Will they or won’t they?
But with us, I know the answer: We won’t
Another song where not all the lyrics fit, and because it references several other couples, I don’t get all the references, but the vibes are there, and I just like finding enemies/rivals to lovers songs, I think they’re fun.
Mechanical Planet- VERIDIA
The truth is
I'll work day and night
To keep the gears grinding in your mind
To keep you from knowing you are worth more than gold
Not some assembly-line, rusted shell of a person that I try to remote-control
I never want you to believe
That when you're down on your knees
That someone is actually listening
If you are undistracted for even a moment
I'll lose my hold
And you would notice that you have never been alone
Never have you ever fought alone
Never have you ever fought alone
On this mechanical planet
You were made for perfection
Not created defective
On this mechanical planet
You were not meant to be
Just some broken machine
On this mechanical planet
I love this song! I love Veridia! I think they’re really neat! I have loved this song since I was in college, it’s great, it fits Brainy and his family almost perfectly, bye. I know they’re not quite robots here, but I still appreciate this a lot.
Feed the Machine- Poor Man’s Poison
I said hey (hey), you (you), poison the well
Watch it all burn, take 'em straight to hell
He's got the whole (whole), world (world) in his hands
It was nice to know ya, we've all been damned
C'mon (c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon)
We've all been damned, c'mon
I said hey (hey), you (you), feed the machine
Bring them all back down to their knees
Yeah so this is another song that I associate with Brainy’s family/the Dark Circle, it’s a song that I’ve only found recently so I haven’t gotten to really get into the lyrics, but it definitely reminds me of them generally, and the last part of the movie where it looks like they’ve won.
Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene- Hozier
I watch the work of my kin bold and boyful
Toying somewhere between love and abuse
Calling to join them the wretched and joyful
Shaking the wings of their terrible youths
Freshly disowned in some frozen devotion
No more alone or myself could I be
Lurched like a stray to the arms that were open
No shortage of sordid, no protest from me
With her sweetened breath, and her tongue so mean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
With her straw-blonde hair, her arms hard and lean
She's the angel of small death and the codeine scene
So this one I’ve known about for a while but not actually listened to, I think someone from another fandom I’m in used it as a title for a fanfic, but I mean. It’s Brainy and Kara, right? Brainy’s point of view, and his perspective of Kara. Another song I recently started listening to and love a lot, and then realized how perfect it is for this version of these two.
Hold Each Other- A Great Big World, Futuristic
Everything looks different now
All this time my head was down
He came along and showed me how to let go
I can't remember where I'm from
All I know is who I've become
That our love has just begun like ohhh
Something happens when I hold him
He keeps my heart from getting broken
When the days get short and the nights get a little bit frozen
We hold each other
I just think this is a good romantic song in general, and I have used it as a song in my other Karadox playlist/used it as the source of a fanfic title for them. But looking at the lyrics again, it does really fit these versions of Kara and Brainy, and I should listen to it again.
Your Kind of Beautiful- Sophie Park
You see a lion and a sailboat in the sky
All I see is little clouds passing me by
You pick a dandelion and you make a wish
All I see is stubborn weeds growing in the ditch
And if I could be I would be be the way you be
And if I could see I would see see the way you see
Your kind of beautiful is beautiful to me
Your kind of beautiful is beautiful to me
Suddenly a symphony is playing in my head
Now I want to see the world the way you do instead
Like a silver lining, pretty picture, coin of you
I like the way you make me feel
the way I feel with you
Again, just a sweet song and one that I have on the other Karadox playlist, and it reminds me of when Brainy is healing Kara and telling her that he wishes he could be like her, and about how she’s so strong and brave and beautiful and whatnot. And I also think this fits from Kara’s point of view, with her seeing the good in Brainy and appreciating that he is also beautiful in his own way.
Cloud 9- Beach Bunny
When I start to tumble from the sky
You remind me how to fly
Lately, I've been feeling un-alive
But you bring me back to life
But when he loves me, I feel like I'm floating
When he calls me pretty, I feel like somebody
Even when we fade eventually to nothing
You will always be my favorite form of loving
Not a lot of lyrics in this one, but I think it’s from Kara’s perspective, contrasting how she feels at the beginning of the movie with her relationship with Brainy afterwards (and bonus “fade eventually to nothing”- nod at Crisis, even though that will never happen in the Tomorrowverse probably)
Life is Strange- MARINA
Don't know what I'm doing with my life
But maybe there's no wrong or right
'Cause everybody feels the same
And all we know is life is strange (Ah)
All we know is life is strange (Ah)
All we know is life is strange
We're in the future, living fast
Can never make a moment last
Is it ever gonna be enough
To love another and be loved?
Because I had to put a Marina song on here somewhere, and I just think this fits Kara’s perspective again, with her going from escaping Krypton to not fitting in on Earth to ultimately finding a place where she belongs in the future.
Bloodline- Natalie Jane
Try to escape it, I try to erase it
But you make me feel so alive
I'm sick and tired of tryina conspire
A way to outrun my bloodline
You ran into a battlefield I tried to disguise
Dodging bullets stepping on mines
All the ones before me have committed this crime
I gave a warning so many times
I mean, it’s such a Brainy song, isn’t it? It really doesn’t need an explanation, it just works for especially this version of Brainy with his relatives being so prominent in this movie and being the big reason that nobody trusts him.
Sparks Fly- Taylor Swift
My mind forgets to remind me
You're a bad idea
You touch me once and it's really something
You find I'm even better than you imagined I would be
I'm on my guard for the rest of the world
But with you I know it's no good
And I could wait patiently but I really wish you would
Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile
Get me with those green eyes, baby, as the lights go down
Give me something that'll haunt me when you're not around
'Cause I see sparks fly whenever you smile
…I think this is a genuinely sweet and romantic song and I loved it when I was a teenager. And I like thinking about it in relation to Kara and Brainy, even though there’s a later lyric that includes “run my fingers through your hair” and that doesn’t really work here for obvious reasons. Although, Brainy could always run his fingers through Kara’s hair, that would be cute.
Intoxicated- The Cab
In a room full of frozen faces
In a moment of fractured time
We eclipse in a conversation
As your words, they pass us by
With you, we could be the only ones here
'Cause I think you're from another world
And I, I couldn't love another girl
'Cause you, you make me feel
Like I'm intoxicated, -toxicated
To the sky, flying high
Take me to the moon
Day or night, we don't have to say a word
'Cause you make me feel
Like I'm intoxicated, -toxicated
Another suggestion from Brandi, again this makes me think of the Miracle Machine situation and Kara and Brainy literally being frozen in time as they stop the machine, and Brainy just generally falling for Kara and being head over heels in love with her (also obviously Kara literally being from another world)
Dark Side- Kelly Clarkson
There's a place that I know
It's not pretty there and few have ever gone
If I show it to you now
Will it make you run away?
Or will you stay? Even if it hurts
Even if I try to push you out, will you return?
And remind me who I really am
Please remind me who I really am
Everybody's got a dark side
Do you love me? Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect
But we're worth it
You know that we're worth it
Will you love me?
Even with my dark side?
Like a diamond from black dust
It's hard to know what can become if you give up
So don't give up on me
Please remind me who I really am
Another pitch-perfect Brainy song in any universe, and another song I’ve loved since I first heard it. For this movie, I think it works best with the scene where Kara and Brainy talk while Brainy is imprisoned, and Kara indeed doesn’t give up on him, treating him like a hero and telling him that she believes him.

God where do I even begin on 6x10? Random assortment of thoughts:
- I suppose it was Nia's turn to fuck up badly but she's so innocent about it I can't even be mad
- that PSA was hilarious but what's even funnier is the show trying to convince me that it's viewership is so high because of the message and not because of how awkward SG looked in it. Gen Z's are making TikToks out of that shit.
- also thinking about Nate from Legends screaming: I LIKE BROCCOLI!!!
- Kelly and Alex sparring? Give me that any day
- "get me on the ground" where was my chest to chest, panting in each other's faces and then full on macking and groping scene? Where was it?!?!?
- J'onn was pretty much useless in this episode
- Andrea made a 1 minute appearance but fuck did she imprint an image into my brain in that blouse. Holy shit
- can I just say that I'm actually digging the reporter colleague dynamic of William and Kara?
- but also I'm missing Kara being the wise sensei mentoring her student Nia. Like did the show forget that reporting was where Kara first started mentoring Nia? Not superhero shit!
- Orlando's speech was honestly the best part of this episode
- Nia's mom was so unhelpful. All that for what exactly? For her to point out how big Nia fucked up? We know goddammit. I'm glad the show is exploring Nia's hangups with her powers and her ability to make terrible choices but still.
- why is this show continuing to make Kara look like a complete idiot? That livechat was a trainwreck. Like the show does remember that Kara won a Pulitzer (tho for what idk because can't be the Lex expose this time)? A prize the likes of LOIS LANE has also won?
- citizen: *asks legitimate question*
kara: because....reasons!!!
- also kara acting like an expert on an issue she herself only became aware of five minutes ago? Sigh.
- does no one in this show have any level of general cynicism and suspicion? Or was that all used up on Lena in previous seasons?
- the Kelly screen time was down significantly in this episode and I'm not even sure why. What was it replaced with? I'll tell you: broccoli. They mention that fucking PSA every chance they get.
- the Nia scenes were so scattered and diluted, just like last week's
- NOBODY TOUCH MY CHAIR - god Brainy thank you for adding some gold to this episode
- since the tiger king looking people are back, does this mean that Kara remembers Nia and Brainy? Did anyone tell her about that time travel adventure? What info has and hasn't been shared?
- not that I want to see Lex but the way no one has even mentioned him in anyway since Kara's been back. Like does kara not want to know where this guy is so she can dangle him off a cliff and drop him?
- I guess we're done with the PZ trauma. The ice taking over the building would've been a perfect trigger for Kara since she talked about how the PZ literally felt like ice!!! How the fuck do you miss that opportunity???
- "only magic can defeat magic" so since Mxy obviously isn't sticking around until the end, I guess this really means Lena might be getting magic and I'm already tired
- but also, what I'm hearing is, Lena can protect Kara from pretty much everything she's vulnerable to and I think that's neat
- does Kelly not have military training tho? Even people not in the trenches have to go through training. They're acting like Kelly is some rando photojournalist with a flimsy blackbelt and no practical experience....oh wait
- Alex doesn't have powers, why do they talk as though she does? She has a shape shifting gaudy bracelet. That's it!
- Lena missing from this episode makes sense cuz she could've fixed the housing problem in 3 seconds flat
- Nia and Brainy in the same episode but no Brainia scenes? What even is this?
What can I say? The only positive here is that it continues from the previous episode and we got to see a little more Orlando. But everything else? The no Lena, the very little Andrea, the unsatisfactory Nia and her mom, that God awful PSA and even worse livechat, kara once again looking hella ignorant (you'd think after S4 she'd be so much more aware and skeptical)
Let's just say, I'm ready for Lena and doubles doubles and some random Newfie in what appears to be the same PZ cave Kara was in.

little bumps in the road (pt. 2)
 Part 1
lena wakes up with a start when her head starts smacking against the window of the (stolen? given? borrowed?) jeep once they turn onto a bumpy dirt road in what looks to be... approximately the middle of fucking nowhere, though that’s hardly surprising. ‘nowhere’ is precisely where they’ve been for the past four days.
lena massages the side of her head that hit the glass with a displeased harrumph--she can already feel a raised bump at the point of impact. her eyes are heavy and dry, lids stubbornly sticking together as she blearily looks around.
kara is staring straight ahead, both hands clenched around the wheel in a way that would have ordinarily mangled the thing as easily as one breaks a matchstick. but her knuckles have gone white with the force of her grip, and the steering wheel is no worse for the wear, and all lena wants to do is point it out.
“where are we?” she asks instead, seeing nothing but dust and bright blue skies. the road they’re on is practically indistinguishable from the landscape--a strip of lighter, packed-in dirt that disappears into the horizon.
“texas,” kara answers, eyes still on the road. it’s so bumpy the entire car is shaking; lena is practically bouncing in her seat, so much so she feels her teeth clatter in her mouth and has to clench her jaw to make it stop. the radio is completely silent--has been that way since some news station said the words lex luthor, so the only sound is the bumping and shaking of the vehicle. lena wants to say something about kara’s driving, maybe tell her to slow down, but she thinks about their exchange at the diner one more time and tries to, again, reign. it. in.
“it took us almost three days of driving to get to texas?” lena asks, making sure to put in the us instead of you in her question even though kara has been the one driving. in truth, she hasn’t really kept track of where they’ve been--hasn’t been able to, with all the zig-zagging across cornfields and deserts and ghost towns and dingy motels... scratch that, maybe it isn’t so surprising it’s taken them that long.
kara just grunts and nods, offering no further explanation. lena continues staring at her white-knuckled grip on the wheel, wondering when--of even if--the thing will just break in two.
it doesn’t break. instead, kara turns abruptly into an even smaller dirt road, leading to more nowhere, and then she suddenly stops.
“why are we stopping?”
lena receives no response; kara just turns off the engine and undoes her seat-belt, stepping off the car to rummage in the back for something. she comes out with a small shovel, which makes lena raise a brow in confusion, but the blonde offers no explanation as she walks a few metres away from the jeep and starts digging.
she hasn’t been asked to help, so lena stays inside the car for as long as she can muster without the air-conditioning running, watching kara’s plaid shirt darkening with sweat at her back as the blonde grunts through the effort of digging through dry, hard earth.
kara’s still digging by the time lena steps out of the car once she feels a trickle of sweat running down her back. the heat is stifling; her head feels hot and humid under her cap, and her hair is stuck at her temples. lena approaches cautiously, taking a water bottle from the passenger cup-holder--kara looks up momentarily once she hears the passenger door slam closed, but otherwise keeps to her task.
lena eyes the blonde curiously--she’s grunting, panting, and sweating profusely with the effort, and the picture she paints is so... weird. lena has never seen kara sweat.
“why is it taking so long for your powers to come back?”
that gets kara’s attention. lena’s standing right by the hole kara’s made in the ground, one hand tucked into the back pocket of her jeans, the other extending the water bottle like a peace offering. lena’s gazing at the hole with ill-concealed ineterest, but says nothing further, waiting.
kara sighs, taking the offered bottle without looking at lena and running a hand through her hair. the short strands are drenched in sweat, and looking more brown than blonde at the moment.
lena waits, transfixed with a water droplet that escapes from the corner of kara’s mouth as she drinks in large gulps; she follows the droplet run down her jaw, then down her bobbing throat to disappear somewhere between her collarbones.
“i don’t know,” kara says, handing the empty bottle back. her voice is jarring enough to remind lena she had asked her a question, so she nods dumbly as she takes the bottle back and fiddles with the cap. “i think there’s still some kryptonite in my system.”
lena opens her mouth in surprise, but struggles to form the words. kara’s gone back to her digging, and before long hits something hard beneath the earth. she discards the shovel, opting instead to kneel in the dirt and continue unearthing whatever she’s looking for with her hands.
“still?” lena finally whispers, so low she doesn’t think kara heard her, isn’t sure if she still has her super-hearing or not.
kara grunts, tossing a metal briefcase at lena’s feet. she clicks it open, and lena just sees the green of dollar bills in neat little rows.
“well,” kara mutters, still kneeling in the dirt. “it was a lot of kryptonite.”

scar
Kara is not mysterious.
She’s not, though she makes a valiant attempt at it. She’s secretive and brilliant and more than talented at putting on an act, but she’s not mysterious. While there are dozens of things that don’t make sense about her, she has a refreshing habit of wearing her heart on her sleeve, consequences be damned, and even if Lena doesn’t understand what Kara does, she certainly can follow why.
Which is why the eyebrow thing is so…confusing.
(Perhaps the more accurate word is frustrating, frustrating that Lena can’t figure it out unlike some of Kara’s other idiosyncrasies.
Understanding Kara’s preference for fatty and sugary foods was simple enough. Her Kryptonian physiology meant that fats and sugars took longer to break down, leaving her feeling full longer. Her partiality for movies with happy endings also made perfect sense—after all, who would wantto have more tragedy in their life? Even her habit of listening for Alex’s heartbeat every night before bed made sense; it had been how she’d fallen asleep when she first landed. But the eyebrowthing…)
Lena studies Kara as she settles into bed, watching her take her time to remove her glasses and run her fingers through her hair. The lamp on Lena’s side of the bed (it still leaves her a little breathless whenever she thinks things like that—whenever she notices the second toothbrush in the bathroom or nearly trips over one of Kara’s boots still laying where she kicked them off carelessly the night before) is still on, illuminating the thick file Lena’s been going through steadily for the past hour or so, waiting until Kara got back from dealing with the rogue alien causing a ruckus downtown.
“What?” Kara asks when Lena continues to stare rather than put out the lamp or put her work away. “Is there still gunk in my hair? I washed it out as best I could but—”
“—why do you do that?”
Kara blinks.
“…uh, wash my hair?” she asks, frowning as she settles back onto the pillows, looking over at Lena with playfully narrowed eyes.
“No. Why do you do that?” she asks again, this time raising her hand to press her fingertips right above her left eyebrow, attempting to demonstrate Kara’s inexplicable behavior. “You touch your scar before bed every night.”
“Do I?”
“You don’t realize you’re doing it?” Lena asks incredulously, her eyebrows rising. She puts the thick file away, shifting so that she’s more settled against the pillows and is facing Kara. “Though maybe it makes sense. I suppose someone like you wouldn’t be all that used to scars.”
“I don’t touch it because I’m not used to scars, Lena,” Kara laughs, leaning over and pressing a kiss to Lena’s temple. She’s being annoyingly calm about it, either not realizing or not caring that this one unexplainable habit has been driving Lena nuts since she first started spending the night. “It’s just…comforting.”
“Comforting?” Lena repeats blankly, not quite sure what Kara could possibly mean. She doesn’t like drawing comparisons between herself and Kara—that’s just begging for a downward spiral, who could possibly want to be compared to Supergirl?—but in this one instance, she can’t help herself. Lena has a great deal of scars (and she allows herself a moment to be poetic as she thinks of all the metaphorical scars Lex and her parents have left on her) and she hates them all. There’s the thin white scar on her left index finger, where she accidentally cut herself while cooking, a careless moment brought on by the first news reports about Lex’s plots against Superman. There’s a darker, misshaped scar on her right knee, where she’d landed on hard concrete after a particularly brutal lesson on ‘how to be a Luthor.’ (Lillian had been horrified by the incident—by her own ability to do such a thing to a child or the very sight of bright red blood rolling down that child’s leg—and had apologized for it later, lavishing Lena with attention and care, very vigilant from that moment on to physically treat her gently, even as the emotional abuse continued.) And of course there’s the scar below her ribcage, which she doesn’t remember the exact details of, just knowing it involved tequila and bad choices. This scar she’s come to love; Kara has not once allowed the opportunity to kiss that scar go by.
Lena doesn’t like any of her scars. They only serve as a harsh reminder of who she was, and she rather likes the person she is now. But Kara’s looking at her softly and her eyes are so blue and Lena has to admit that if someone asked her right in that moment, she’d say her girlfriend was absolutely mysterious.
“Why?” she asks, even though every part of her is screaming that she can figure it out later—just like all the other things—even though a part of her believes she’s showing exactly how invested she is, just how important Kara is to her, and vulnerability is one scar Lena’s still not quite sure how to feel about. (When she’s feeling more poetic, she can admit that it’s not a scar at all, not yet. It’s a deep and still bleeding wound, and she thinks with Kara’s help it might heal into a neat thin line rather than the jagged edges for which she has a propensity.)
“On Krypton…” Kara begins slowly, reaching out to take Lena’s hand, threading their fingers together and gently running her thumb over Lena’s skin. It’s a mindless gesture, but one that has turned into a moment to latch onto—yet another simple thing that can take Lena’s breath away. “I had no powers on Krypton. I was…normal.” Kara pauses long enough to take a deep breath she doesn’t need, shuffling over enough that her entire body is pressed up against Lena’s, hand never ceasing its ministrations. “I could get hurt, bleed, become so exhausted that I wanted nothing more than my bed, any day, any time. I didn’t need kryptonite or a rogue alien to make me feel like everyone else.”
“You got the scar on Krypton,” Lena guesses, unable to help the track of her eyes. Realizing there’s not point to pretending, she reaches up with her free hand and gently runs the pad of her thumb over the scar, watching as Kara’s eyes flutter shut.
“I was young when I got it,” she all but whispers. “I’m not sure exactly how. I remember it involved my father and uncle and one of their experiments.” She laughs a little, lost in another world—a long since lost world. “My father petitioned the Science Guild to allow me to join as soon as possible, but they wanted to wait until I was a little older. So my father and uncle had me work with them in secret—my mother was furious when she found out.” She laughs again, opening her eyes and meeting Lena’s gaze steadily. “I remember her lecturing me as she cleaned me up—didn’t even allow Kelex near me. At the time, I didn’t think it was very fair. It’s funny,” she adds softly, not sounding amused at all, “I’d give anything to hear her yell at me again.”
“Kara…” Lena tries, but she doesn’t know what to say, doesn’t know what she cansay. How does one comfort their girlfriend over the loss of their entire planet, their family, their friends—the only life they’d ever known? She can lay here and recite as many platitudes as she’d like, nothing would take that sadness out of Kara’s eyes.
(Lena knows, she’s had her fair share of scars, understands how much pain they could still cause even though for all intents and purposes the skin had healed over, the tissue repaired itself.)
“I used to hold my mother’s necklace as I prayed to Rao every night,” Kara says suddenly, breaking through Lena’s thoughts, looking inexplicably calm and at peace. “It seemed important to do, especially when I really began coming into my powers and didn’t need sleep.”  She tightens her grip on Lena’s hand just briefly, letting out a soft sigh as she does so. “In some ways, it makes me glad I gave the necklace to Mon-El.”
“Kara, I’m sorry, but that doesn’t make sense. It was the last thing you had of your mother’s.”
“And I got it when she was putting me into a pod and saying goodbye. Carrying it around…carrying it around felt heavy. It was a constant reminder of losing my planet, of years in that pod, of nights spent crying with the Danvers…of nearly dying myself.” For the first time she looks away, apparently invested in the patterns of the curtains. “But the scar is from a moment when my uncle’s experiment went wrong and my mother cleaned me up and my father kept apologizing and snuck me a treat later.” Kara sniffs, and Lena doesn’t mention or acknowledge the tears that have rolled down her cheeks. “The scar reminds me of who I am. I like it.”
(Lena was right about one thing: Kara is not mysterious. But her notions about scars? Lena might need to rethink her stance.)
“I like it, too,” Lena says, pressing her lips to the scar above Kara’s left eyebrow in a lengthy kiss. It must be the right response—or something close to it anyway—because Kara practically sags, resting her forehead against Lena’s.
And they fall asleep just like that, heads close and hands intertwined, but not before Lena makes the mental note to never allow the opportunity to kiss Kara’s scar to go by.
