Pampering
[[Summary]] Y/n has a cold and Wanda is absolutely freaking out. It's funny until they realize why the witch is so afraid. (wanda x reader)
Word Count: 600
-----
“Wanda,” You chuckled, a bit of exasperation seeping into your tone, “it’s a cold.”
Wanda glared at you with rage-filled eyes as she set up yet another, bringing the total up to three. You had made the mistake of sneezing in front of your girlfriend and her overprotective streak had kicked in. She had forced you to go to Bruce who had diagnosed you with a literal cold. A sniffle. The lowest of all illnesses. And yet, your girlfriend was freaking out.
“Do you remember the last time you had a cold?” She replied, raising an eyebrow at you. As much as you hated to admit it, she may have had a point. The last time that you had a cold you refused to rest and said cold had devolved into pneumonia and a particularly painful ear infection. It had been absolute hell.
“Okay, fair, but I’m alright baby. I promise I’m okay.” You murmured, slipping out of bed to come over to her side. She looked like she was about to cry, the frustration having dissolved into fear. You took her hands in yours and squeezed gently, your heart breaking as a tear slipped down her cheek.
“Y-you almost died.” The witch croaked, her voice wavering with emotion. You sucked in a deep breath, which prompted a short burst of coughs which you were sure didn’t help calm Wanda down at all. When you regained your breath you reached up and cupped her cheek, an act that always brought her comfort.
“I’m here Wanda. I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. A stupid cold isn’t going to take me out, okay little witch?” You promised, leaning in to press your forehead against hers. She let out a stifled sob and wrapped you in a hug, holding on for dear life.
“I love you, sweetheart. With everything I have. Let’s watch a movie or something and cuddle.” The brunette nodded against your chest and you sniffled, feeling admittedly weary. You were tired and your head was starting to throb, your sinuses aching along with the rest of your body.
Wanda tucked you into bed and you settled against her, finally feeling the effects of the ‘little cold’. It certainly wasn’t the worst, you probably could have even worked if you truly wanted to, but now that you were curled up in the arms of your girlfriend all you really wanted to do was sleep.
“M’sorry I scared you.” You rasped, grabbing her hand with a tight squeeze. The woman hummed quietly and kissed your forehead which was definitely a ploy to check to see if you had a fever. You knew that you didn't, but at this point, you’d do just about anything to calm her nerves.
“Do you need anything beautiful?” She murmured, stroking your hair as she flipped through channels on the TV. You shook your head and stifled a sneeze into your wrist, groaning quietly afterward. You regretted stifling, it had sent a flair of pain through your head.
“I’ll make you the soup that my Mama used to make me when I didn’t feel well.” Wanda decided, settling on one of the Jurassic Park movies. It was the one with Katie McGrath in it, which reminded you of the conversation that led to you discovering her sexuality.
She had made a joke about the beautiful Irish woman which had led to a rather long discussion with some tears and a lot of hugs. You smiled and cuddled close, deciding that maybe a bit of pampering wouldn’t be so bad.

Playing BG3 with a friend, and I got my character burned, and it just won't stop! My friend was trying to save me from the burning effect by throwing water at me. It didn't work.
Friend: Oh, wait. Now you're still burning, but you're also wet...
Me: So, me looking at Katie Mcgrath?

With Merlin trending, allow me to share my genius idea.
I don't really want a revival or season 6, but maybe they could do an epilogue/post-show special?
I think the funniest and most potential idea is obviously a special where Arthur rises and Merlin has to introduce him to the modern world, but that pretty much cuts all the other characters out of the equation for what is supposed to be a reunion/anniversary/comeback special.
So maybe it could be a series of moments in time, like episode 3 of Good Omens?
Here's some things I thought of that would have good potential to be in a special:
Parts of Guinevere's rule: Did she get remarried and have kids? Did she repeal the magic ban?
Did Merlin ever go back to Camelot? If he did, a scene of him and Guinevere actually discussing his magic would be awesome, since her "reveal" was an indirect confirmation from Gaius.
Where did Aithusa go? We know she was alive after the battle, but it never shows her again after Emrys sends her away. Did Merlin finally get to be her mentor/guardian? Did she recover from the crippling that she experienced, and learn to speak?
How did Camelot fall/disperse into a modern country? Camelot is obviously in modern day England. How did it stop being Camelot? Was it destroyed or absorbed by an enemy? Did it gradually turn into England?
Magic: What is magic like? Does it die out except for Merlin? Does it still exist, but the general population stopped believing it to be real because of how rare sorcerers become? What about magic creatures like the griffin and the fomorroh?
Merlin waiting for Arthur: Episode 3 of Good Omens includes a compilation of scenes of Aziraphale and Crowley across the centuries and in different eras. It would be cool to see Merlin moving through time similarly.
Arthur rising from the lake: This is a given, it has to happen. We have been very patient, and Merlin has been even more patient. We deserve to see the Once and Future King rise again.
Arthur in the modern world: Obviously, this would be really fun and silly, as well as somber. Seeing Arthur learn about modern things would be funny, but obviously, he would have to come to terms with the passage of so much time.
The only issue I find with this lineup of events/scenes is finding a way to bring Katie McGrath back, since Morgana died during the events of the canon show, not in the future like Gwen, Gaius, Percival, or Leon.
I guess it would be most effective to have some flashback scenes mixed into the flashforward scenes. Flashbacks would also allow other important, deceased characters to come back for the special, like the knights, (Lancelot, Elyan, Gwaine) and Uther, since Anthony Head was a major actor in the show.
Regardless, THIS is what I would want if BBC Merlin "came back". THIS would be amazing. It would satisfy the desire to see into the future of the characters without needing a full season, which the cast/crew have all said they don't want to do.
Share this around if you like this idea! I would love to see other people's additions.

Someone (maybe you?)
busted :D
thanks for letting me blither into your inbox and also for responding!!!
i fell into supercorp sometime during bingewatching a whole pile of shows during covid pandemic ‘stay-at-home’ time - it kept getting put into my recommendeds over and over and so mid 2021 i gave up and watched, and caught up in time to watch the trash fire that was season 6b but basically consumed all s1-s6a over the course of a few weeks that summer, so i can only speculate as to how having the ‘proper’ pacing would have influenced how people saw the characters.
as an aside, the other effect of bingewatching for me is that it almost feels like it makes lena’s trauma worse because you really watch lena go through ups and downs like a rollercoaster, and in part because kara’s trauma reversals mean she often flip flops, so then lena is stuck reacting to it (which i think katie mcgrath pulls off brilliantly).
another thing i wanted to say was that i really agree with your comment that they’re both trying and they’re both hurt but their traumas just interact REALLY BADLY with each other - like lena is trying so very hard to actively choose to trust people, and she does it in spite of the fact that it -keeps blowing up in her face- (rhea is such a good example of it: she caught rhea out! she tried to ask kara for advice! she decided to give rhea a second chance because she thought that’s what kara would do is try to trust and empathise with an alien refugee, and then it turned out rhea was everything her family warned her about: a human-presenting alien with metahuman powers that wanted to take over the world! oops?).
i think there’s something so compelling about that part of her character, that she tries so hard to be so guarded and yet she is so bad at it and then gets hurt again and again, and the juxtaposition with kara, who comes off as being sunny and open but in truth actually is in some ways a lot better at holding everyone at a distance, to some extent lena included, and then that blows up in -kara’s- face.
also, i too wish they had just let lena be a geeky brilliant science girl. something something smart girls and misogyny something something witches (i’m sure someone’s vocalised the offputting feel of this decision in a smarter and more coherent way before).
God, just imagine Lena after Rhea.
Lena knew she was lied to... but Rhea had a compelling story, so Lena decided to give Rhea a second chance. And that second chance resulted in Lena sending Kara's boyfriend off the planet, and Kara growing distant from her - Lena almost lost the most precious person in her life from trusting Rhea.
And then she was lied to again, but the liar was the most precious person in her life. (Just after Lena chose to kill the only other precious person in her life, to protect the liar who was using her.)
It feels really telling in a way that she was willing to have Andrea back in her life (in some capacity) after Kara's betrayal, given how Andrea and Kara rhyme in interesting ways. I'm still mulling over what I think of that.

Character Analysis
THE BASICS:
Character’s name: Eilionora Stafford
Role in story:  Queen/supporting character
Physical description:  Katie McGrath
Age: 26
MBTI: INFJ (the advocate)
Enneagram: Type 1 (the reformer), 1w2, 126
Zodiac: Aquarius
INTERNAL: THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
What is his/her greatest fear?  Of being corrupt/evil/defective
Inner motivation: to be good, to have integrity, to be balanced, to be right, to strive higher and improve everything, to be consistent with their ideals, to justify herself, to be beyond criticism so as not to be condemned by anyone
Kryptonite: To be reproached, regarded as defective, etc
What is his/her misbelief about the world?  That she is unworthy of the great responsibility placed on her shoulders bc she is fundamentally flawed
Lesson he/she needs to learn: Everyone’s flawed and its the struggling to be better than we were yesterday that is the true definition of worth!
What is the best thing in his/her life?  Her loved ones and her ppl, her country <3 Would literally die for them no joke <3
What is the worst thing in his/her life?  Well, atm that would def be this whole conquest-which-might-spark-the-apocalypse/unleash-death-and-endless-winter-upon-the-world or whatever situation sdlkjfksjldf so yeah.  not amazing laskjdafakjlsdf But also its this feeling that she's let her ppl down, let the whole world down, bc they were the one standing between humanity and apocalypse and she tried so, so hard, she did every single thing she could think of to make this world a little brighter and her ppl a little happier, and nothing she did was enough. i ts kinda playing into all her doubts abt herself and now the world is doomed bc of it...its kinda heavy ngl. now, she is faced w the notion that effectively giving up and embracing a lesser evil is the only way she can help anyone, bc if she can convince Roderick to legalize the old religion again then perhaps she can save the world -- and the only bargaining chip she has is her country, so basically she sells her own and her ppl's soul to save their lives? is that right? or is it just her flawed nature telling her so?
What does he/she most often look down on people for?  cruelty, egotism, a lack of principles/willingness to harm others esp for selfish gain, lack of manners lol she can be a lil prickly sometimes ngl but i mean…she’s literally a perfectionist so, like, are we ~that surprised
What makes his/her heart feel alive?  Love and friendship, the warmth of the sun, the laughter and smiles of her loved ones and her people, sweet summer fruits, the sound of water, peace, calm, wellbeing, the satisfaction of a job well done
What makes him/her feel loved, and who was the last person to make them feel that way?  im sure it was aria!  warmth, comfort, and encouragement, kindness, playfulness and childlike silliness, sharing in her altruistic ideals, persistance, total trust
Top three things he/she values most in life?  Her loved ones, trust, and a generous spirit
EXTERNAL: NOT NECESSARY, BUT GOOD TO KNOW AND SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
What’s his/her favorite book, movie, and band?  Oh, man, she’d probs love historical dramas!!  Both for the personal/event analysis AND for things like the pretty sets and costumes hahaha she’d be esp enamored of Elizabeth I like Elizabeth: the Golden Age?  She’d love it and probs cry every single time she sees it ngl smdh  Another Florence + the Machine lover also classical music and soundtracks and operas and esp ballets!  Big Tchaikovsky fan over here!  She’d really enjoy Wonderwoman and The Dark Knight and the Prestige and, actually, the Nolan brothers in general, probs.  I feel like she’d really enjoy speculative fiction, science fiction, and horror esp the more intellectual things bc she ~is a snob but she also dearly loves to laugh and btw P&P 2005 is probs her all-time fav movie, hands down <3
Is there an object he/she can’t bear to part with and why?  Idk if there’s a royal signet ring but her dad probs gave her that w his dying breath, entrusting her as the future ruler and that’s a trust that she takes V E R Y seriously and she does noT take that thing off she is married to her country 100%
Describe a typical outfit for him/her from top to bottom.  Well, she’s a queen so she always dresses in the latest style™ to show respect to her country etc and to play into the queenly iconography as expected tbh that promo shot from merlin where she’s lounging on the sofa in purple w that bejeweled headpiece dripping down her forehead is pr…on brand i feel like
What names or nicknames has he/she been called throughout their life?  Your Grace haha no but Eilia, Ella, Norr, Nora
What is his/her method of manipulation?  correcting others – insisting they share her standards
Describe his/her daily routine.  Eilia does like to inject a little change into her routine daily for a bit of relish -- no two days should feel precisely the same! but generally, she gets up early, eats a little bit, receives petitions, meets w her vizier to discuss goals/makes orders largely informed by that prev activity, does correspondance etc, receives more petitioners, writes up and ratifies pending legislation etc, receives yet more petitioners, wraps up the day
Their go-to cure for a bad day?  Helping others wherever she can always makes her feel better!  esp if she can correct misfortunes etc!  spending time w her sister and friends, taking a few brief moments for herself, a walk amongst the gardens in the sunshine or by the water or amidst the trees -- out in nature!, quality time esp w Eithne and her sisters!
CHARACTER GOALS:
How is your character dissatisfied with their life?  well, two things.  rn they’re ~invaded so that def sucks!  but also she feels she’s intrinsically flawed and thus a bad choice for the throne!  but she’s also all the ppl got rn what w invasion happening so she’s tryna hold on and be everything to everyone and just…oof
What does your character believe will bring them true happiness or contentment?  if she can fix literally every single thing!!! she will be happy!!! this is obv absurd but!! so is perfectionism tbh
What definitive step could they take to turn their dream into a reality?  well, on a small scale, any lil change she makes is helpful, but to the bigger stuff she’s in a biT of a catch-22 bc if she yields to this marriage, she's surrendered her nation to the corruption that is the varmont empire -- you only need to look at the varmont family to see this dude shouldn't be father of a nation tbqh! but if she doesn't (w/ the caveat that the old ways would be respected of course! she def aint giving in w/o that! which is why its been two years of stalement bc both she and roderick are stubborn af), literally everyone is doomed! so there's literally no way to keep true to her integrity and still achieve her goals! this is pr much a nightmare scenario for eilia ngl
How has their fear kept them from taking this action already? ultimately, eilia has v little real trust in herself. she is determined and unswerving which keeps her from giving up, but part of her wishes she simply could. bc she fears that someone -- perhaps anyone else -- might be better for the role in which she finds herself, she second guesses every choice before her, but she won't give up the fight. there's a way to save everyone -- she has to believe that there is
How does your protagonist feel they can accomplish their goal while still steering clear of the thing they are afraid of? eilia believes that if she can keep one ohand on the wheel, even as roderick's latest bride, she can help steer the world towards a better outcome than it currently faces, even if roderick cannot be swayed on matters of religion. bc of this, she is currently contemplating relenting and marrying him in order to quietly rebel from within, but she feels this might ultimately ultimately lead to the worst outcome of all, which has so far stopped her from going forward with this option

Pls, pls, pls, I want hear the theory I saw in the tags about people taking more risks with male characters compared to male characters.
Anon is referring to this post. Thanks for the ask!
I guess my pet theory of the day is that since male characters are viewed in a more neutral light than female characters (on average), they’re not scrutinized as much when writers take risks with them. Those risks can pay off--which can lead to compelling writing for them. This, in part, contributes to a deeper connection to those male characters, and where the “blorbo” effect kicks in. (and where all those mile-long Loki/Sherlock/Insert-Tumblr-Fav-Here analysis posts came from back in 2012).
Female characters are way too scrutinized by either ends of the spectrum, and taking risks with a female character is almost like walking a tight-rope; one false move and either your character will be panned or you will be panned for not writing your own character in an approved manner. So what do writers do, especially in a very risk-aversion place like Hollywood? Slot the female characters into corporate approved roles (like the #girlboss or the generic love interest) and don’t bother to flesh them out. (For the record, this can also be the way that fandom views certain female characters even if they're actually written well. But that's a different discussion)
On the flipside of that, however, is that there’s also a trend of male characters suffering more (which ironically enough may contribute to audience sympathy and latent fandom interest). Male goons get killed for the sake of the story, sometimes in really brutal ways---which people don’t like to see for women side-characters. How many male characters have horrific deaths in the Jurassic Park franchise, meanwhile people only complained about how Katie McGrath's character was killed in Jurassic World?
I'll always maintain that writers should focus moreso on how the character acts than what the character is. Focus on the personality and characterization first, and then if the setting demands it add the gender dynamics (or any other dynamics depending on who you're writing). That's literally it.
TL;DR: Male characters are viewed in a more neutral light than female characters which leads to bolder characterization through risk-taking, leading to audiences being attracted to them more. They also tend to suffer/die pointlessly more (in certain circumstances). Literally just write female characters with just as much risk-taking as male characters--that's all I ask.

Carmen Vane bio
[ katie mcgrath | she/her | 32 ]  rumor has it that carmen vane has been seen wandering around town. they are a witch who is one of the survivors. they are known to be irascible but deep down they are resilient. when it comes to the brewing conflict in new orleans they’re on the side of the dsa.
name: carmen juliette vane nickname: cj, car age: 32 birthday: april 4, 1997 species: witch/untriggered wolf gender: cisfemale pronouns: she/her sexuality: pansexual hair color: dark brown/black eye color: green/blue family:
harrison vane ( father )
kiera crowe ( mother )
dex vane ( brother )
darcy kinsington ( sister-in-law )
matty vane ( nephew )
alexander vane ( nephew )
everleigh vane ( niece )
history:
Born to what was suspected to be just a werewolf and an unsuspecting huntress, the vane family was unaware of the existence of a witch in their mother’s family. It wasn’t until Carmen had tapped into her powers at a young age that the powers of her grandmother were revealed. She had died during childbirth with their mother, who had never known of the existence of the witch in their family especially when neither she nor her siblings had tapped into their powers.
Carmen grew up idolizing her older brother who had raised her since she was eleven and was her only family other than their uncle who would often go on long trips that, unbeknownst to the youngest vane, were hunting trips that Carmen would eventually be expected to join as she became older. Her magic only enhanced her skill as a huntress as she learned how to incorporate them into the training that her uncle and brother had given her.
When her brother stepped away from their life of hunting, it gave Carmen the excuse to follow a dream that she had kept to herself for most of her life - going to school and starting her own law firm. She worked herself to the bone to open the business so it was no surprise of her when she started growing more and more tired and weaker as the days went on. It wasn’t until a year or so later when she got her diagnosis that everything started making sense - brain cancer.
She had heard rumblings in the supernatural community of certain dark objects and dark magic that aided in biological transformation. The more she began to delve into dark magic, the further entranced she became. She finally got her hands on a dark object that made her more powerful than she had been even before her diagnosis. The attempt to warn her of the side effects fell on deaf ears as her goal of continuing her business blinded her.

[Article] “Swanky Launch For BBC’s Merlin”
by msntvuk (by Guest Editor Elliot Pickup), posted on September 15, 2008
[Original article]
The following is a copy/paste of the article followed by screenshots. In the screenshots it looks like there were two pictures there at one time, though I’ve been unable to retrieve them:
Since 2005, the new revival of Doctor Who has dominated Saturday night television and the genre of family-friendly drama. Everyone in Britain knows the Time Lord; he’s a large part of popular culture and part of our national heritage. But the end of the series is a massive gap in the BBC’s Saturday night line-up and only something equally as spectacular would fit the bill. Hence all the hype about Merlin – every inch a suitable replacement.
I took myself off to the swanky launch held in central London. The launch was in two parts; the first segment was a screening of the premiere episode of Merlin in Waterloo’s IMAX cinema. The ever-impressive IMAX was packed with a crowd ranging from hard-nosed hacks to some of the actors appearing in the series. The buzz of excitement was palpable as press, cast, crew and some lucky fans waited. Now obviously we can’t say too much about the episode itself, but I can tell you this: the first thing that immediately stands out is the impressive cast. The show is littered with familiar faces, such as Anthony Head (King Uther Pendragon), Richard Wilson (Gaius, the court physician) and John Hurt, who appears as the voice of the great Dragon.
Other stars lined up include Santiago Cabrera from Heroes (as Lancelot) and former EastEnder/Bionic Woman Michelle Ryan as the evil sorceress Nimueh. Further guest stars will include Eve Myles (Torchwood), Will Mellor (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) and Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing). Two not-so-familiar faces occupy the main roles of Merlin and Arthur: Colin Morgan and Bradley James, respectively. Playing opposite them as the leading ladies are Angel Coulby (Guinevere) and Katie McGrath (Morgana).
The show is set in the world of Albion and Camelot, but the series focuses on a young Merlin and Arthur who are finding their way and carving their destinies; Uther Pendragon, Arthur’s father, is still King. Aiming for a similar audience as Doctor Who, Merlin has the playful, more obvious and less sinister overtones that will capture the younger crowd. But there is also plenty for adult viewers to enjoy. The story isn’t too complex; everyone can keep up and no-one will be lost in the twists and turns of the plot. Production company Shine has done an amazing job creating this world and the characters. Equal credit must go to The Mill, the British Oscar-winning visual and special effects team behind Gladiator – the CGI is stunning and at times you forget that what you are watching isn’t real. I was very impressed with Merlin and if, as expected, it goes up against The X Factor, it will be a fantastic alternative to endless sob stories and emotional manipulation.
After the screening, there was a reception at the OXO Tower in central London (top-notch canapés and drinks). The majority of the cast were there, which was really great. I spotted Anthony Head talking to Russell T Davies (Doctor Who revivalist) and Richard Wilson. I also saw Michelle Ryan (a real stunner in the flesh), Julian Rhind-Tutt and Will Mellor. I also spotted Bradley James and Colin Morgan having a drink together. All in all it was a great night and if the launch is anything to go by, the series itself will be a massive success.
Merlin starts on Saturday at 7.30pm on BBC1
