i was tagged by the one and only @duquesademiel to list three things i’m proud of from 2022 (i know, i know, it's been almost three weeks since 2023 started, i'm sorry but i'm bored at work)
in 2022 i:
got my first proper job! after a series of failed interviews - including one where i got both sexually harrassed and asked to work for free in a "volunteer capacity" within the same 15 minutes, i found a spot at a place where i'm comfortable, valued, and treated with respect. i don't know how long i'll work here, but for now, i am happy and i'm learning lots which is the important part
went to therapy! this nifty weekly outing came with the added benefits of: having less general anxiety, developing healthy habits, learning to set boundaries, letting myself enjoy the little things, becoming comfortable with living in grey areas
decided that being alive was worth it. a little more sad than the other two, but by far the thing i am most proud of in 2022 and the only one that really matters
shout-out to the things that kept me from falling apart in the face of sheer terror, day after day, second by second:
videogames, like disco elysium, hades and stardew valley
books, like egghead by bo burnham
artists, like bts, bo burnham, soda stereo, stephen sondheim, beyoncé and fall out boy
musicals, like sweeney todd (2014 new york philharmonic concert), tick tick boom (the netflix movie, but also the 2001 production), company (2005 broadway revival) and kinky boots (2016 west end)
tv shows and assorted internet series, like stranger things 4, dickensian, players, big brother argentina and ghost files
people in my life, like my magnificent friends who bought my gun whenever i asked without judging me once (disco elysium reference, i do not own weapons irl except a really cool sword) and my parents who made sure i had a support system while i worked on myself all year
we made it. 2023, let's fucking go. <3
tagging @justahappycloud and @gutterratt just because i haven't seen you guys do it and it might be fun (and also because you two + the aforementioned @duquesademiel are some of the magnificent friends that made the difference for me this year - i love you more than you know, and i say it less than i ought to. i'm sorry and i thank you.)

Kinky Boots

A Musical About Princess Diana Is Set To Open On Broadway In 2020
Starring Jeanna de Waal as the "People's Princess," the show boasts a Tony Award-winning creative team.
By Curtis M. Wong 08/13/2019 04:26 ET
A musical about the life of Princess Diana is Broadway-bound.
Directed by Christopher Ashley, “Diana” is scheduled to open at New York’s Longacre Theatre next March. It follows the life of the “People’s Princess” (played by Jeanna de Waal) during her turbulent 15-year marriage to Prince Charles (Roe Hartrampf), culminating in her 1997 death at the age of 36.
“Thrust into a spotlight brighter than any the world had ever known, Diana soon finds herself at odds with her husband, an unrelenting news media, and the monarchy itself,” a synopsis of the show sent to HuffPost and other media outlets reads. “Leading fiercely with her heart, Princess Diana stands up for her family, her country and herself, while managing to capture the hearts of the world.”
“She defied expectations, she rocked the royals and she created a legacy that will endure forever,” the press note concludes.
From the sounds of it, “Diana” ― which debuted this spring at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego ― takes a few cues from “Evita,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1978 musical about Argentina’s legendary first lady, Eva Perón.
It also boasts an impressive pedigree. David Bryan, who co-wrote the score, is the longtime keyboardist for Bon Jovi. He and Joe DiPietro are also the creators of the 2009 hit, “Memphis,” which won four Tony Awards.
In 2017, Ashley received a Tony Award for directing “Come From Away,” which continues to play to sold-out crowds on Broadway.
The San Diego production, however, received mixed reviews.
“The show doesn’t work but that hardly matters these days for a musical that can draw in the tourist masses,” Los Angeles Times critic Charles McNulty wrote, adding that the score sounded “dated.”
The Hollywood Reporter’s review was more generous, saying that the musical “seems to have many of the pieces needed for a hit” despite “flaws.”
For London-born de Waal, whose Broadway credits include “Kinky Boots” and “American Idiot,” bringing Diana to life is a dream come true.
“I hope people who come to see ‘Diana’ that didn’t know about her and weren’t aware of her journey leave the theater with an idea of what she did for the world and the changes she made,” she said in a March interview. “She’s still such a huge part of our zeitgeist ... I think we want to celebrate her.”

The Signs as Musicals:
Aries: West Side Story - (1975) The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks, from Puerto Rico, are taunted by the Jets, a white gang. The young protagonist, Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang's leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks.
Taurus: On The Town - (1944) t’s 1944, and a trio of sailors arrives in New York City for 24 hours of shore leave, eager to see the sights and meet pretty girls. On the subway, Gabey spots a poster of “Miss Turnstiles,” Ivy Smith, and instantly becomes obsessed with meeting her. Elsewhere, Chip takes a ride with an outgoing cab driver named Hildy, and Ozzie meets anthropologist Claire de Loone at the Museum of Natural History. By the next morning, the guys and their gals have enjoyed a night of dance and romance in some of the city’s hottest nightclubs, an adventure none of them will ever forget.
Gemini: Heathers: The Musical - (2010) Heathers is a rock musical based on the 1988 cult film Heathers. is the story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerburg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Queen Bitch Heather Chandler kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized ass…but J.D. has another plan for that bullet. The show, while a comedy, is a sexually charged high school drama that deals with issues of teen suicide, murder, bullying, homophobia, and gun violence.
Cancer: Evita - (1978) Evita is based on the historical story of María Eva Duarte de Perón, a poor Argentinian girl who grows up to be the wife of the president of Argentina, worshipped by her people. As a young woman who longs for an acting career, fame, and fortune, Eva quickly learns that her feminine wiles hold power among a culture, and a political system, run by men. Once she makes it to Buenos Aires, Evita finds fame and power in her powers of seduction, eventually seducing the rising political figure, Juan Perón, who becomes the President of Argentina. As First Lady of Argentina, she aligns herself with the poor, winning herself, and Perón, popularity among Argentinians. Evita becomes a hero to the poor and the working class—and an enemy to the rich. A young and unknown revolutionary, Ché, narrates the rise and fall of the beloved matriarch of the Argentinian people.
Leo: A Chorus Line - (1975) Centered on seventeen Broadway Dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line, the musical is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. A Chorus Line provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.
Virgo: Cats - (1981) The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.
Libra: Rent - (1993) Rent follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s East Village. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, struggles to find his place in the world; his roommate Roger, an HIV-positive musician, wonders how he will leave his mark before he dies. Mimi and Angel look for true love as they face the harsh reality of life as HIV-positive young people, while the businesslike Joanne seeks fidelity from her wild-child performance artist girlfriend Maureen. The group’s dreams, losses, and love stories weave through the musical’s narration to paint a stunningly raw and emotional portrait of the gritty bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
Scorpio: Chicago - (1975) Set in the legendary city during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Nightclub star Velma’s serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Driven chorus girl Roxie’s been tossed in the joint for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with. Not one to rest on her laurels, Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn, who turn Velma’s incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, thus preparing the world for a splashy showbiz comeback. But Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve… The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the "celebrity criminal”.
Sagittarius: Newsies - (1992) Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this new Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.”
Capricorn: Kinky Boots - (2012) Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price. Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of hugh-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all.
Aquarius: Hair - (1967) A product of the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s, several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. The musical's profanity, its depiction of the use of illegal drugs, its treatment of sexuality, its irreverence for the American flag, and its nude scene caused much comment and controversy.
Pisces: Legally Blonde - (2007) The story is based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and successfully defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Throughout the show, no one has faith in Elle Woods, but she manages to surprise them when she defies expectations while staying true to herself.

Once on this Island: girl just wants to be part of that world
Evita: argentina holds back tears bc this lady told them to
Fiddler on the Roof: how dare this man play his fiddle on our roof i'm mad because TRADITION
Kinky Boots: girl is in love with a guy who has a thing for shoes but also there's drag queens?
The Emoji Musical: ... i don't have anything funny to say
Wonderland: Like the book alice in wonderland but now alice has to pay taxes and has a kid? Also the Mad Hatter in this one is EVERYTHING
Anything Goes: lady tap dances on a boat for two hours
This is potentially part one to a series of lists of things I know exist but know nothing about

Kinky Boots
“Aquí no podemos hacerlo”.Este título corresponde a un musical que Pepe Cibrian Campoy estrenó en la Argentina en 1978. Hoy, enero de 2020 podemos afirmar sin lugar a dudas que “Aquí si podemos hacerlo” y la muestra más contundente es el estreno en el Teatro Astral de “Kinky Boots”. Este musical, cuya producción original corresponde a Broadway y se encuentra basado en la película inglesa de 2005,…

“When the actor made his entrance, during the introductory number, “Alexander Hamilton,” it was the audience that stopped the show, with a prolonged, thunderous ovation. At the curtain call nearly three hours later, Miranda once again brought down the house, with a teary speech that ended with him pulling a large Puerto Rican flag from under his costume and holding it aloft.”- An emotional opening for ‘Hamilton’ in Puerto Rico — not just for Lin-Manuel Miranda but an island still reeling from a storm (Scroll below for a video report from Reuters)
The Week in New York Theater Reviews
Blue Ridge
In Abby Rosebrock’s “Blue Ridge,” a comedy that morphs into an intensely acted drama…Marin Ireland’s remarkable performance brings out the full range and force of Alison’s personality with every gesture and expression. And she is not alone. Rosebrock’s script feels flawed at times in two contrary ways — sometimes aimlessly meandering, sometimes abruptly implausible. But under the direction of Taibi Magar (Is God Is), the production serves as a stellar showcase for some riveting acting by all six members of the cas
Choir Boy
Pharus Jonathan Young is black, gay and gifted, like the playwright who created him, Tarrell Alvin McCraney, best known for the Oscar winning film Moonlight. McCraney is making his Broadway debut with Choir Boy, his sweet, sad, substantive play. With nimble direction by Trip Cullman and a lively cast mostly of Broadway newcomers performing some soulful music, it doubles as a glorious entertainment
Under the Radar:
Minefield
In an extraordinary work of theater put together by Argentine director Lola Arias, six veterans who fought on opposite sides of the 1982 war between Argentina and Great Britain met and, under Arias’ guidance, pieced together a show. “Minefield”…is ultimately a powerful and moving endeavor. It is also deeply odd.
Chambre Noir
Valerie Solanas, the mentally ill woman who shot Andy Warhol in 1968, has had a remarkably long run. Her SCUM Manifesto (Society for Cutting Up Men), which called for the overthrow of the government, the elimination of the money system, and the destruction of the male sex, has reportedly been translated into more than a dozen languages.  She has been the subject of books, plays, musical compositions, TV shows and movies; both Lilli Taylor and Lena Dunham have played her.
And now, 30 years after her death at the age of 52 in a hotel in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, the Norwegian-French company Plexus Polaire, led by extraordinary artist Yngvild Aspeli, has turned Valerie Solanas into a puppet. Several puppets, actually.
It’s the best thing they could have done. Puppetry redeems “Chambre Noire,” as it does “King Kong” and “Frozen,” except more so, because nobody is likely to accuse those Broadway shows of glorifying a fictional reindeer or a giant ape.
