Hello and welcome to the official source for A Revised History of Erdas!
You can call me Bay (she/they). This blog is for all things regarding my revision and expansion of the Spirit Animals series. Here, I discuss the project from a professional standpoint, accept asks and announce new uploads.
Included in A Revised History of Erdas
Here is a rundown of everything you can expect from this project.
A master document (henceforth simply referred to as the "masterdoc") detailing everything there is to know about the altered world of Erdas, from the geography and religion to the plot changes and character designs. This is intended to serve as the reader's guide to ARHoE.
The revision of the main series, arcs one through three. These will be referred to as the original book name, followed by Revised (e.g., Wild Born: Revised).
Tales of the Four Heroes, a collection of short stories that offers a glimpse into some of the unseen adventures of Conor, Abeke, Meilin and Rollan during and after the Second Great War.
Vow, an additional chapter of The Book of Shane that reveals how the Redcloaks came to be.
The revision of Essix's chapter in Tales of the Great Beasts, in which she befriends one of the first Greencloaks in Amaya.
Wyrmslayer, a novella centred on Abeke and Uraza in the aftermath of the War with the Wyrm.
The fourth and final arc, Path of the Heroes, in which the Four and their spirit animals must face a new adversary with their bond tokens.
An as of yet untitled book that jumps forward in time to the next generation -- the Four Heroes' children.
Standalone short stories set in this universe.

Things you might be wondering
Who is this blog run by? This blog is run entirely by myself, @bayofwolves. I write the posts, answer the asks and manage the account overall.
When do you post? Posts are scheduled for Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays) at 4:00 p.m. PST. There will not be a post every week, but when there is, it will fall on one or both of those days.
Why are you making this project? I have wanted to continue writing for Spirit Animals ever since The Dragon's Eye was released and the series was concluded. Fourteen years old at the time, I was unwilling to part with the world and the characters that had been a huge part of my life for the past four years. Additionally, I wasn't entirely satisfied with where they left things. In fact, I wrote to Scholastic to tell them so, and to request that they continue. I never heard back, of course, but that didn't stop me from taking matters into my own hands and beginning to work on the idea for a fourth arc that had taken shape in my mind. That original idea is now abandoned, but many years later, it inspired me to re-imagine what a continuation of my beloved childhood book series could look like. I created the concept for Path of the Heroes, and one thing led to another until I had plans to rework the whole universe of Spirit Animals. This all started because I never wanted it to end, and because I was unhappy with where and how it ended. A Revised History of Erdas is my attempt to make it feel more complete, to reconcile with my brokenhearted child self. Essentially, this is a passion project that was many years in the making, and a love letter to the books that shaped my childhood.
Where can I find samples of your writing? My Archive of Our Own is currently bare, as I haven’t written a standalone short story in a while. I do have some in the works, however. In the meantime, you can read the final chapter of The Return: Revised here.
When are you going to release [x part of ARHoE], and where can I read it when you do? At this point in time, I cannot predict when I will finish writing any part of ARHoE. This will likely change as work on the project progresses. I lead a busy life as a young adult and write when I can find the time (and motivation). This means that progress will be slow. However, rest assured that this project will be completed before I die. All stories will be posted (chapter-by-chapter, if applicable) on Archive of Our Own. As was previously mentioned, I will announce new uploads right here on this blog.
How does the content of this blog differ from that of your main? The most important difference is that this blog is dedicated exclusively to ARHoE. My main is where you'll find more varied and personal content, as well as discussion of the original Spirit Animals series. I do sometimes talk about this project on my main, but those posts are simply me brainstorming and coming up with ideas. It's casual, and nothing I say on there is set in stone. On this blog, however, my posts are polished and final. All the topics you see discussed here are fixed elements of ARHoE.
Can I send you an ask about [x]? Questions about anything in the universe of ARHoE are very welcome, but keep in mind that there are some things I can't reveal before certain volumes are released. Anonymous asks are on for those of you who prefer them. Send in as many as you want; I love answering them.

How long have you been a fan of these books? I first started reading Spirit Animals in 2014, at around the same time Fire and Ice came out. I was ten at the time!
Favourite character? My favourite character is Abeke, followed by Shane, Irtike, Conor and Tasha. I have identified strongly with Abeke since I was very young; she will always be close to my heart.
If you lived on Erdas, what animal would you summon? It's a hard question for me because I love so many different animals, but I think my spirit animal would be a sea wolf.

80% of Buildings Are Unsafe: Kashmir Is Sitting on a Volcanic Heap

Kashmir, a region known for its scenic beauty and fragile ecology, is also one of the most seismically active zones in the world. Geologists and experts have, for years, warned of an impending large-scale earthquake that could dramatically alter the geography of the Himalayan region. These warnings, made during various seminars and studies, have been alarmingly consistent. Yet, despite the gravity of the situation, the response from the administration has been muted and apathetic.
According to seismic researchers, the Kashmir Valley lies in a highly vulnerable zone where a massive earthquake is overdue. Tremors are regularly recorded in various parts of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, averaging three to four every month. While these tremors have so far been mild, the frequency is a clear indication that the earth beneath us is restless. However, the government appears to be in denial, offering superficial reassurances rather than action.
It is deeply regrettable that the administration chooses to downplay the risks, aiming only to reduce public anxiety rather than addressing the root causes of concern. The truth remains stark: Kashmir is perched on a geological fault line — a "volcanic heap" — that could erupt without warning, leading to catastrophic consequences.
Studies have clearly placed Jammu and Kashmir in Seismic Zone 4, with Srinagar categorized under the extremely dangerous Zone 5. This means that earthquakes exceeding magnitude 8 on the Richter scale are not only possible but likely. Despite this, the government continues to ignore expert advice and fails to implement adequate safety protocols.
What makes the situation more alarming is the condition of the region’s infrastructure. According to experts, over 80% of the buildings in the valley are not earthquake-resistant. A survey once identified approximately 2,000 buildings in Srinagar alone as unsafe. Though some were demolished, they were replaced by equally vulnerable constructions, and the survey’s recommendations were quietly shelved.
Adding to the concern is the absence of a functional disaster management system. Although a Disaster Management Authority exists in name, it is grossly underfunded and lacks the operational capacity to deal with emergencies. No proper micro-zoning has been done, no seismic instruments are in place, and no dedicated experts have been appointed to monitor earthquake patterns in the region.
Construction across Jammu and Kashmir continues unabated and unregulated. Building codes, which could significantly reduce earthquake damage, remain largely unenforced. This negligent approach endangers millions of lives and highlights a stark disconnect between policy and ground realities.
The time for warnings and token gestures has passed. The government must now move beyond paperwork and take immediate, concrete steps. These include enforcing seismic-resistant building codes, identifying high-risk zones, establishing a properly funded and staffed disaster management system, and launching public awareness campaigns.
The recent tremors should serve as a wake-up call. If we continue to ignore the signs, we may not get a second chance. In a region as vulnerable as Kashmir, inaction is not just negligence — it is a potential recipe for disaster.

What is DEI at workplace?
Diversity at workplace involves having a workforce with varying characteristics, relating to gender, age, race, sexual orientation, language, skills, experiences etc. This helps promote different perspectives, and problem-solving approach within the team and the company. While diversity is promoted, it is also important that such persons benefit from equity and feel included. Equity would involve treating everyone equally. Such companies do not often believe in one-size-fits-all policies. Instead, there is consideration of the requirements of different persons, or groups of persons. Inclusion at the workplace involves putting in efforts to ensure that all persons feel equally involved in work relating to the company. It is about how well the contributions, presence and perspectives of different groups of persons are valued and integrated into the environment.
Why is DEI needed ?
Diversity is needed to promote a variety of opinions, thought process, and voices in the organization, as also a variety of decisions taken at different levels. This leads to a more rounded approach to decision-making, and helps an organization adjust to changing times. However, diversity would have no meaning if there are no conscious steps relating to equity or inclusion. If diversity becomes a tick the box item, many persons will not feel equal or included. Focus on DEI helps increase satisfaction and engagement levels of the workforce since they feel valued. It also helps in fostering team spirit, and positively impacts on the retention levels.
Why has DEI suddenly become important?
Focus of all companies has increasingly moved from only owners/ shareholders to all stakeholders. Further, no longer are companies only looking at a particular geography. Most companies have a global outreach. Requirements of end users too are changing on a continuing basis, with a huge change in the demographics of customers of a number of companies, especially in the B2C category. To keep evolving, with changes in circumstances, it is important for companies to focus on DEI.
What can Boards do?
A number of Boards do not consider DEI when it comes to even Board composition. Having one woman Independent Director, as mandated by law and regulation, is not enough. Women should be inducted on the basis of talent, and not tokenism. One woman Director does not adequately promote diversity, equity or inclusion. Further Nomination and Remuneration Committees should consciously focus on diversity beyond gender. Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting also promotes equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities, and stipulates that companies should report on such efforts.
